I just got my N56VZ earlier today here in the Philippines.

I am very happy with my first purchase at Amazon.

This is the notebook I've been wanting for more than a month!

And all I can say is that I really love it...

The design, specs, build, quality, all of it.

The package I've received was well taken care of, the notebook's box was covered in a bubble wrap.

Pardon me, this may not be an in-depth review but I will point out some of the misleading information on this page and some additional info as well.

* This is a 15.6" Matte Full HD (1080p) display, and not 11.6"

* This comes with 4 USB 3.0 Ports, not 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports

* Also, this comes with 6x Blu-Ray Reader

* The hard drive was partitioned into 2: C:\ = 279GB and D:\ = 398GB

* Windows Experience Index is 5.9 due to the hard drive (7200rpm)

* Comes with 1 year international warranty, free 2-way standard shipping

The reason I bought this from Amazon is because our local version of N56VZ doesn't include backlit keyboard, which is a huge letdown from ASUS.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this, I got this deal on sale with Prime benefits.

UPDATE:

It's been 6 months after I received my ASUS N56VZ.

All I can say is this is the perfect gadget for my everyday needs.

I use it for school stuff, watching movies, software programming, photo editing, gaming.

With the 8GB memory, I can simultaneously run Firefox (with over 400 tabs opened) together with Visual Studio and some office applications.

And with the 2GB Nvidia GT-650m, I can play videos on a second monitor screen for my kid.

So far, so good...

Don't bother paying extra for a "gamer brand", especially if you want a laptop you can carry around without fear of being mugged.

The discrete design makes it look "random and safe" while being made in quality materials so it doesn't look "cheap" either.

Component wise it's a solid gaming laptop, not much to say on this side, you'll be able to play recent games with no issue even if you're not at home.

Oh, and the best surprised I've got with this laptop: the sound is incredible. It sends back to shame all the other laptops I've seen and owned and more importantly a lot of desktop won't match it either...

I love this laptop! The build quality is excellent, and the performance is about the best you can get for the price. Having a 1920x1080 screen is awesome, and the keyboard and trackpad are on par with a macbook pro. As expected, battery life is short when running CPU/GPU intensive tasks, but is just fine if you are doing low demand tasks like web browsing and word processing. I think my only gripe is that Microsoft now forces OEMs to install Windows 8 on all devices, which is really too bad because it is better suited to devices with touch screens. Luckily, you can just install the open source program "Classic Shell" and it will return the user experience to the familiar Win 7 desktop and start menu that is better suited to a "desktop" interface using a keyboard and trackpad. Since that fix takes all of 2 minutes I can safely give this laptop 5 stars!

After a month of using this laptop, I have a lot of great things to say about it. For starters, everything seems solidly built and stable. I have not had issues with crashes, overheating, or construction defects yet. The screen is gorgeous, with great viewing angles and a nice mate finish that is very clear even in in sunlight. The keyboard is decent, and the touch pad is good as well, once you get used to it. No amount of kudos would be enough to praise the speakers, which with the included subwoofer, and the 1080p screen create the best movie experience you can wish for on a laptop. They really are the best speakers I have seen on a laptop. I also want to mention that everything you touch and see feels and looks premium, making this the best looking machine in the price range. Games run well. The 650m is just an average gpu, but it can run pretty much all new games on at least 720p and high settings. I have tested Far Cry 3, Tomb Rider, and Bioshock infinite, and they are all very playable and on those settings. All in all, a great machine so far. If I have any negatives to complain about, that would be the so-so battery life (about 3 hours the way I use it), the heavy weight, and of course win8. It really is the most confused and inconsistent UI I have ever used. It takes about 15 min of tweaking to set it up so that you never see the metro screen ever again and just use it as win7, but at least it's very quick to boot up.

I recommend setting up a SSD on this laptop and you're set. It really is the best compromise between gorgeous design, productivity, portability, graphical capability, and entertainment for the money. Hopefully ASUS lives up to their reputation as a reliable laptop manufacturer.

As soon as I recieved the laptop I had to get rid of windows 8 ( what a piece of s*** from microsoft) so once that was done , install the drivers and some other software and its the perefect machine. If anyone I wandering how the gfx runs with new games e.g. I could play Tomb Raider on Ultra without any lag.

Very pleased with this machine.
