I never write reviews but thought I should worn people about this model. There is a flaw with the design, the WiFi does not work unless you are very close to your router. Near the router I would get 20mbps in the next room I would get .2mbps. My old laptop would get 15mbps in that's same spot!!! I had Dell come to the house and replace my screen (antenna is in the screen) and 2 wireless cards. Also I had Amazon send me a new one but same problems. Google xps 15 wifi problems and yoy will see what i am talking about. Dell asked me to send them the computer for repair but I feel if I buy a new computer I should not have a referbished one. I am sending the 2nd one back and ordered a Levovo Y510p. I hope this helped people.
However if you are going to use ethernet only and not the wireless card you would be OK..

I purchased the Dell XPS 15 laptop about a year and a half ago. I continually have problems with it. The motherboard needed replacing after only 3 months. The fan is hot and loud. When the laptop is running, there are always problems shutting down. Google Chrome and Windows Explorer stop responding. System takes forever to load, and now it won't turn on again. I've tried performing "flea power," unplugged everything, etc. Looks like another mother(!*!)board replacement. I would never buy another one again.Best Deals for Dell XPS 15 XPS15-1105sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver Anodized
I brought this laptop for my twin brother's birthday. He completely loves it. It is just what he wanted in a powerful laptop.Honest reviews on Dell XPS 15 XPS15-1105sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver Anodized
Well, this is an expensive piece of crap. Among the wifi issues, schizophrenic track pad, and the fact it doubles as an oven, all of which have already been mentioned, the thing simply can't handle computing. I've had mine for just over a year. It was usable for the first 8 months--not great, but usable. The track pad made me want to scream sometimes and there were some quirky ghosts in the programming, but whatever. No computer is perfect. I wasn't even looking for perfect. I was looking for functional. After 8 months things started running downhill.1. The screen will sometimes just fade out. Click the mouse, it comes back on, only to fade right back out in 2 seconds. Repeat for a few minutes until the screen finally gives up and trying to dick you and begrudgingly works. And I mean begrudgingly.
2. It won't log off anymore. I hit 'shut down' and it simply sits in the "logging off" screen at infinitude. I've let it stew overnight and it still hadn't logged me off and shut me down. I know it's bad for the computer, but I just leave the thing on now. It's either that or force a shut down that's equally bad for the computer.
3. I get at least one 'program not responding' per day now. And I'm not taking about WoW, which I play. I'm talking about Word. Google Chrome. Thunderbird. And when you can't shut down your computer because it can't remember how, that's more trouble than it's worth.
And Dell Tech Support is just as bad. The only responses I've ever gotten are "are you deleting your temp files on a regular basis?" (What am I, and idiot? Of course I am. But that's not going to help the fact the screen doesn't like to actually work or that the thing wasn't actually ever programmed to shut down) and the one woman who actually took the computer and somehow managed to disable the entire operating system requiring a complete re-install. That was a fun loss of files.
Just...save yourself the heartache. Get an Apple. Or a Lenovo. Or and HP. Hell, get yourself one of those massive 1980's laptops that had a corded keyboard. Get an abacus. Just don't get one of these.

This is the second one I own (the first one lasted only a few days and had to send it back) I really like the way it looks and feels. It's just what I wanted! (Like a Mac, but in a decent price range)...BUT it has a big problem with WiFi, I knew it when I bought it, and I wanted to give it a try anyway... It's not a big deal for me, but for a laptop that costs $1300 that is a big fail. You can't be far from the modem otherwise, it will not work.
Is a bit heavy and the battery life is ok (I get around 3 hours)
It's a nice laptop, but not outstanding....
