UPDATE #3 Sept22/13Cursor in touchpad erratic from get go. No matter how many times it's been adjusted (sensitivity, etc)via control panel.
Letters on the keys ALREADY rubbing off!! Really?! The 'T' symbol on the key almost totally gone! Not even been THREE months! HP customer service has been very responsive, but the touchpad issue still not resolved. And the key symbols? Just cheap. Does not bode well for the future of this machine. And have passed the Amazon 30 day period so guess I am stuck with a $600 piece of Chinese junk.
OK....I found out that online Forums beat, hands down, HP's (or any Company) support. After hours with HP Support and remote assist for the problem of the computer constantly kicking me off and back to sign-on screen, HP said to reinstall Windows 7. BUT before I had to do that, I found out via forums, that it was the screen-saver set ups causing the glitch. Problem seems solved. The slowness issue turns out to be ATT and my supposedly FAST service is actually 1.3-1.5 Mbps (even tho I have been paying for the faster one!) UGH! SO...nothing is the fault of the HP ProBook! The only feature I wish I had, as I stated earlier, is a backlit keyboard. Everything else seems great now! Especially once ATT gets with the program I PAID for...fast DSL! :)
Moving from a (heavy) 15.6" 2008 Gateway Vista 32-Bit Home Prem, with Intel T5200 1.60 GHz, 2GB RAM to this ProBook 4440s with i5 7200 rpm core, etc. and thought it would be a LOT faster, etc. (It has Windows 7 Pro 64 bit)
NO Difference that I can tell. Maybe it's the settings? Bloatware? I am not very computer savvy but still....
I have mostly "cloud" stuff on it, and have not installed any programs yet. It takes as long as the Gateway to Start from shutdown to active online-internet...actually slower? Almost EVERY video buffers over and over...You Tubes, News, etc.
It's crazy?!
I had read several good reviews on this machine so am a wee bit disappointed.
I think I will take it to a computer-geek shop and have them go over it and see if there might be stuff on it that is slowing it down. Hate having to shell out more $$$ for that.
Also, the fingerprint recognition doesn't seem to have a set-up wizard/instructions? But that's a subject HP Support should be able to assist in.
One reason I went with HP is their Customer Support, which has always been stellar.
I will see if performance improves in the next few days and update if it is just something I may have overlooked.
I did goof in one criteria...backlit keys. I opted to not go for one with that feature and boy do I ever regret that oversight!! :)!
