Lenovo's G580 15.6 inch laptop is an affordable computer that offers great performance and good durability in an attractive package. The standout feature of this laptop is the i5-3230m processor, which is very fast and fairly power efficient (though the new haswell intel cpu's reduce power consumption considerably). The i5-3230m also includes intel's HD 4000 on-chip gpu, which means you'll get some graphics processing power without the need for a discrete (additional component) gpu. The HD 4000 will run most games smoothly from 3+ years ago or with simple graphics. Modern games like starcraft 2 will run fine on low settings, but demanding games, like Crysis 3, Skyrim or Battlefield 3, will not be playable. The 4gb memory, 500gb HDD, 1366 x 768 resolution, dvd writer, 720p webcam, hdmi and 2 x USB 3.0 ports are all pretty standard features on a 15.6" laptop in this price range and should satisfy the average consumer. The screen has mediocre viewing angles, but this shouldn't be a problem unless you are sharing the laptop to watch a movie or something. The keyboard is very responsive and easy to type fast on. Mousepad works very well and the G580 does not offer the iconic little red nub for mouse control found on some Lenovos. The construction is typically sturdy as with all Lenovo laptops, though basic, with a lot of plastic. The laptop is fairly attractive, but plain, which means it should be a good fit for most consumers. At 5.7 lbs, it is slightly heavier than I would like. You can now find cheap 15.6" laptops as light as 4.6 lbs., though most weigh in around 5.2 to 5.6 lbs.

Whenever you get a computer for this price (at review time it's $499, it went on sale for $450 when I bought it) you never know if you're going to get what you hope. Fortunately this time, there really was no let down. This computer does everything it says in the description and the reviews. Very sturdy, well-built computer with some great horsepower. Getting an Intel i5 at this price is awesome as well. The RAM is fine at 4GB, most people probably don't need more, however just to be sure I purchased a RAM card for $36 and installed it myself (very easy, takes 5 minutes, just check for a tutorial on youtube) and doubled my memory. This is a cheap way to maximize your computer's speed and multitasking ability; here is link to the RAM card, which is compatible with this computer: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=269651E3A5CA7304. If you look around online, that is one of the only things that internally keeps this from being a $700-plus laptop, and is easily upgraded. Only negatives I've seen (that are to be expected at this price) is the laptop is no MacBook Air, it is relatively hefty, though not much of an issue, and the battery life. I don't get 5 hours very often, most of the time it is around 4. Other than that, this is one of the best deals I've found on Amazon. Would recommend it for sure.Honest reviews on Lenovo G580 15.6-Inch Laptop (Dark Brown IMR/Metal)
GEneralThis is a great laptop if you are looking for something for less than $500.00 this is the machine to buy the price ranges from $449.99 to $509.00 . The price is just right, it's a very professional looking laptop, the keyboard is great, the touchpad is very responsive and the hardware is high end. Upgrading the RAM to 8GB is very easy and would recommend it.
Screen
The screen surprised me, it has a great viewing angle and the colors barely fade even when looking at the screen from an edge.
Build
Solid build, looks very professional. It's a very dark brown it almost looks black. It feels very good in the hand, the plastic is high grade and almost feels like metal. It has a matte finish, fingerprints are easily seen but the finish is very nice.
Touchpad
Very good touchpad, usually on low end machines they skimp on the touchpad. It's very good, there are no random rapid movements and the multi-touch works perfectly and is easily configured.
Speakers
Again another surprise, was dubious about the under the chassis speakers, but they are loud, very clear and crisp.
Temperature
Have used it continuously, setting up all apps and updating windows. It was a little hot, but has very good cooling, plus 3rd generation i processors run cooler and have better battery life.
Operating System
Windows 8 takes a lot of getting used to, things that use to take 1 to 2 clicks now take 5 6 and a lot of searching. Microsoft has taken the time to hide all configuration options very well. It's okay, it's no windows 7 but it's usable. Installing Ubuntu for daily use.
(EDIT) This computer wasn't for me, girlfriend actually got used to windows 8 quite quickly. And likes it very much, for comnfiguration it's hassle but for everyday use she hasn't had any problems. +1 star taken away
Overall a great computer and for less than $500.00 the best option out there.
