All laptops i have bought till date where lenovo....Got this 5 months back.... already called their customer care 3 times.. waste of time... issues never get resolved...Issues
mouse pad is not fit for use cursor keeps moving without touching hardware issue
Wifi turns off automatically and no option to turn on wifi in hardware or software
Both these issues could not be resolved by their customer care. They even restored my system.
Today the monitor does not display any content and just displays 2d gibberish and hangs.
Must be one of the worst laptops ever to have been sold.... I have regretted every minute having this... now they are going to service it...

In the 3 weeks we've had his machine we have identified some nice features; a bright, sharp display and lighted keyboard particularly. Also good battery life and light weight. However, the unit I received has several glaring defects. The first was a complete lack of instructions and much installed bloat ware. It is unknown how much of this is due to Windows 8 and how much due to Lenovo, but it took many hours to finally locate a rudimentary tutorial to help navigate the main features of Windows 8, including how to remove the bloat ware. It took more research to find a program that would restore the Start button. Specific Lenovo problems were an almost impossible-to-use touchpad and weak reception of WiFi signals. The touchpad response had to be slowed considerably before choices could be made fairly safely; otherwise wrong selections occurred frequently. Two finger scrolling quit after a week or so, possibly because of an inadvertent operation that has yet to be revealed. This computer replaces a 7-year-old laptop that had much better WiFi performance with a 1-2 bar signal strength. Running this machine on the type 802.11g band at 2 bars results in frequent dropouts due to timeouts. I was unable to download a large file for supporting our 3-1 printer until the Lenovo was positioned next to the router. Behavior on the n-band seems even worse. We have no 2.2 GHz interfering signal sources in the house (except a microwave), and most neighboring stray WiFi signals are n-band.This machine is not for the faint of heart.

The trackpad is messed up. From day one i used a usb plug in mouse since those are easier to use than the trackpad. However, when i forgot the mouse i had to use the trackpad and notice after a few minutes of use it went hay wire, the mouse would be moving everywhere with very little control and even when you weren't touching the trackpad it would move on its own. Not sure if this was mistake during manufacturing of this particular laptop or if something happened during shipping.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lenovo IdeaPad U510 15.6-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Gray)
Before I bought this I read some reviews on it, and overall it seemed like a really good laptop for everyday use. I was happy with everything, the look and feel of this laptop, its performance, and battery life. Overall it does exactly what I'd expected it to, and because I bought it on sale I paid much much less than this laptop is really worth. It's great for school, work and basically everyday use. Not a big gamer, but I don't think it's really geared towards that. The only complaint I would make is that i had read one review before I had purchased this laptop where they had said the mouse would sometimes move of its own accord, and could be really frustrating. That was the only person who had mentioned that issue, so I had assumed it was just a defect with their machine. Unfortunately, mine has the same issue. I haven't tried sending it back to the manufacturer or anything to get it fixed, because it doesn't bother me that much. Essentially what happens is sometimes when I'm not touching the mousepad, the mouse will move or click and can mess up what I'm doing. I found an easy solution: there's a shortcut button where F6 is (the F keys you need to press "Fn" before you can use them, if you don't they are used as shortcut keys like sound/brightness/airplane mode) and one of these shortcut keys will disable the mouse. If you disable it all the time and use a regular mouse, you'll never have this problem, or just disable the mouse when you type, it tends to help (i think its because sometimes I touch the mousepad when I type, as it is fairly big). Also, when the mouse goes on the fritz, just push the button to disable the mouse and then push it again and your mouse should work fine. Works for me.
Another thing that people had mentioned was that the laptop was quite heavy, but it's also a bigger laptop, and its not like you're lugging around a ton of bricks. It just feels more stable, and the added weight you don't even notice, especially if you have it on a desk (which it seems to be really geared towards desk use) it actually makes it feel more stable, and less likely to break.
