This is an excellent upgrade from my old dell. I love how fast it is, i can click on programs and they open right away, and videos load very quickly. The screen, also, is very bright and looks excellent and vivid. I also like the windows 7 operating system a lot. It's not the best looking computer, but you only ever look at the screen anyways, and i prefer this look to something with swirls or bright colors, it's much more classy.

When i first got it i was very disappointed with the speaker volume, i couldn't properly hear videos without using headphonesthey were just too quiet. To fix this problem:

1. go to the Control Panel (found in the start menu),

2. click on "hardware and sound,"

3. under "sound" click on "change system sounds," this will bring up a window called "Sound"

4. click on the "playback" tab, click on "speakers," (mine are powered by a "Conexant" driver),

5. click on "properties" (in the lower right of the window). this will open the window "Speaker Properties."

6. Then in this new window click on the "enhancements" tab, and check "Loudness Equalization." Make sure you click Ok or Apply afterwards.

For me this completely solved my only problem with this computer (which was a pretty annoying problem). Enjoy.

Purchased this prior to Christmas 2010. Looked like a good deal relative to capabilities (W7HP x-64). Upgraded to W7Pro x-64. Doing ok for the most part. Started having spontaneous reboots with the following black screen notification:

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.29 (06/30/09)

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

Disable PCI LAN in Bios; receive no bootable device

Disabled PCI in CMOS setup; now, when the spontaneous reboot occurs, I get the the black screen with "no bootable device available". I reboot in Safe mode, then normal, and wait for the next event. Called Toshiba, and received the general non-comittal, "When it happens again, we'll boost it to a level 2 tech issue." Did a complete system scan with Norton 360 v5 Premier so far so good. Maybe it's that the hard drive has a milli-second comms disconnect from the system and that's the reason for the failure. Maybe it's the i3. We'll see.

This seems to be an issue with Toshiba for a while 2 yrs on some of their other laptops; however, no apparent rectification. Other than that, an OK machine. Be circumspect. Just some background info for potential customers.

(Update) Removed and replaced the HDD, restored the system onto the replacement HDD, and it appears as if this is the solution. It's been running for 2 days with no adverse events.

This computer is great for speed and power better than my HP Desktop Computer and way better than my old toshiba laptop 1805-s274 pentium 3 256 mb ram,20gigabite harddrive.

But i noticed one thing about this laptop The webcam color picture is horrible its like any other webcam that you get at the store at target the color is bad but then again i dont use the webcam anyways.As for the most of you that says that a smell is comming out of the vets thats over heating or the sound is bad. well i really havent had that problem and everything seems to be working well besides the webcam.

I didnt get this laptop through amazon.com.i got it at bestbuy for $449.99 for a christmass present it was on sale and it was way better of a price than amazon was getting for it.

The computer does have the i3 processor which is the lowest of the 3 (i3, i5, and i7) but is a major upgrade from the celeron processor. has good battery life and looks nice. only problem is the speakers. they dont get very loud but easy fix if you buy cheap portable speakers like the Chill Pill. overall it has great memory with 500GB hard drive and 4GB of ram. better price from best buy though.

I bought this in a holiday deal in my short visit to USA, after 2 days of using it , I am getting burning smell from the Vent area , I called the company reported this problem, they are asking me to arrange for shipment to back to their service center which takes 8 to 10 working days for it ! . Unfortunately I am leaving to India , Toshiba is not ready to replace the item. Crappy product and service.
