My wife needed a laptop for school. I did a lot of searching around in this price range. 14" seems to be the perfect size for portability and usability. Perfect for a student to carry to class but still have a good usable size with a built in DVD burner. My main goals were the size, the weight, and the battery life. Pretty much any computer nowadays has the processing capacity anyone casual user would need. I narrowed it down to this one because it was among the smallest sizes and weighed slightly less than the others. (4.7 lbs vs. 5 lbs) I was hesitant to purchase it because there were no reviews on it that I could find. My only requirement left at this point was the battery life. Many reviews of other laptops have complaints about the battery life, even though the manufacturers say it will last long. My wife needed it to last through the day at school without plugging it in. I finally found a review that talked about it and gave some comparisons on its battery life compared to others. It ranked among among the top so I decided to get it.
We've been very pleased with it. There were a few programs preinstalled. We uninstalled the ones we didn't need. It is fast enough for the school work my wife needs it for. It is quiet and sleek looking. My wife uses it non-stop during a 3 hour class and at the end of class it still has 60-70% battery life. We watched the last Shrek movie on it in the car and at the end of the movie, if I recall correctly, it still had around 50% battery.
We've had it a month now and love it.
