When I bought this product, there was only 1 review and it gave it 1 star. This worried me, but I was familiar with all the hardware inside this machine, and I know Toshiba is serious about getting money from people, which means they won't leave you out to dry.
So I took a bit of a leap of faith and bought this. I have wonderful things to say about it's speed, power, boot up times, keyboard, etc. All of that is well laid out in the hardware specs and by the pictures. Just know that almost everything is perfect about it, but I will mention it's MINOR shortfalls.
1. In normal laptop fashion, some keys share buttons. This means that a "Fn" key is going to need to be hit to do some stuff. That of course is to be expected, but there is something I don't like about this particular way of doing it. The "F" keys on the top of the keyboard share functions with volume, etc. (See picture). This is all well and good, but the problem is that the "Fn" key is for the "F" key functions NOT the computer controls. So if you are like me and love your "F" keys, you will be annoyed as you will be adjusting your volume instead of typing.
2. The fan blows air out of the right side. Due to the hardware in this machine, the guy gets hot (okay really hot), and pumps out air onto the right side making a jet of hot air on your hand if you are using a mouse. This is merely a minor annoyance and something you just gotta get used to.

I am absolutely LOVING this big screen, I Highly recommend going "BIG" for anyone with "older eyes" or any type of vision issues, the ease of viewing items whilst surfing the web or watching videos (and yes, gaming) MORE than makes up for the extra weight and relatively shorter (than a 15" laptop's) battery life.Loving the speed for boot up and not having ANY storage issues (like my last ho-hum 15" laptop) I can save and down load to my hearts content. *ok, OK...I admit it, I do have a weakness for funny/cute animal clips....
*For anyone needing more battery life just buy an extra to rotate out when you need it. I have a spare battery but I usually have the laptop plugged in wherever I go so this is not a big issue for me. My son's relatively new 15" laptop seems sooo outdated now that we have this sleek beauty. I am the envy of all here! It's like a "Ducati" of laptops!
LOL I feel like the kid in the "Eggo" commercial, and have to repeatedly tell my family "Leggo my Qosimio" ;-)
The extra size and weight doesn't seem to be a deterrent for my family at all in light of all the features this Qosimio has!
(BTW*Videos on the Toshiba site pronounce it "Cozmio") But I have named my Qosimio "Giovanni" (homage to the sleek Italian looking styling, like a Ducati Motorcycle has... IMO!)
I really think I'll need to install a lojac soon if they don't stop sneaking it away whenever I'm not with my Giovanni, so I'm adding another "CON" to the list.....
CON: Everyone has "sticky fingers" when it comes to this laptop! Be prepared to "share" as everyone is going to want to borrow it whenever you put it down, really!~
When your looking to buy a 17" desktop replacement laptop, you expect it to be heavy, powerful, and have a minimal battery life; this is a known fact. While I got everything I was expecting, this laptop does run on the hot side when using intensive applications like Battlefield 3 or rendering large HD videos. I would definitely recommend getting an after market cooler to put underneath it to keep the temps down and to not fry your hands. But other than the heat issue I love this laptop! It's super fast with its Intel i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz processor and with a 1000 GB hard drive you won't be running out of space anytime soon and I absolutely love that!
Like my title suggest, I would recommend this laptop to those looking for a portable desktop replacement for multimedia/gaming, and who don't plan on doing a lot of carrying the laptop around with them. This wouldn't be the best laptop for a student who has classes all around campus and has to carry this beast with them all day. (Unless you love raw power, in that case carry on! :-) )

Unlike my dual core processor, the Toshiba uses the new quad core Haswell Intel Core i7-4700MQ processor.Notable Features:
1. Windows 8 (standard issue on current PC's)
2. Lighted keyboard (the keys are backlit by red light, handy for airplane or darkened room use.)
3. 17" screen. This is what jumps out at you when you open up the laptop. Huge screen.
4. Sleek appearance: shiny ABS plastic and brushed textured aluminum. Red accents.
5. Large touchpad with bar control for mouse buttons.

Downsides
1. Controls like volume are shared with the F function keys. On my HP Elitebook, these are on a touch panel near the hinge. Fast and easy. I don't like shared buttons.
2. It runs very hot. There is a warning front and center about not letting it sit on your lap too long as you operate it. I suggest a lap desk and the one I reallly like is the Lapgear Jumbo Lap Desk which is well designed for using a laptop away from a desk or table.
3. It is heavier than some laptops: my HP is 5 lbs and this is 7.6lbs.
4. Battery life is average (3.5 hours is about all you can expect)
5. Windows 8 only (this is a function of Microsoft having rolled out a new operating system but a lot of us, including me, preferred Windows 7.)
6. I have some issues with the wireless; if they aren't due to my wireless network, I will have to contact the Toshiba support. The reception is very weak,yet other laptops and devices get good signals in the same location. I'm beginning to suspect it is indeed the fault of the Toshiba. *UPDATE NO problem with the wireless at all. It was the router. This is not an issue and it didn't require tech service to solve.
Bottom line: top quality laptop for especially for gaming and multimedia. Beautiful appearance. Geared for fast operation and fast graphics. Large, bright screen. Beautiful styling. Could have had better cooling.

I bought my Qosmio with the GeForce GTX 770M 3GB graphics card, 32G ram, an SSD and the Intel i7-4700MQ quad core processor. On trying to use it to play a game, it shut itself down due to overheating.Shutdown times varied from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. There were no obstructions for air flow, and I even raised the back end up a half inch with risers in case the 'feet' weren't tall enough to allow it sufficient air.
After a few more days of shutdown, I took it to a Toshiba-authorized repair shop. They had it for a few days and replaced the graphics card. That Friday evening, it shut down again.
The next day I had it downstairs with a sliding door open on one side of the room and windows open on the opposite side. Ambient outside temperature was below 60F and the room approached that temperature relatively quickly. I was able to use the laptop to game for almost an hour and a half without a shutdown. The graphics were absolutely amazing and the laptop performed wonderfully well but I couldn't keep the room at that temperature the family can't handle those temps and no one should be expected to handle them.
On Sunday, I was in the same downstairs location but with the windows and door shut. The house temperature was 76F upstairs and downstairs probably only 2 to 5F below that. The laptop shut itself off after 15 minutes of gaming.
For a laptop billed as a Gaming Laptop, it seems unable to handle the heat it produces while playing a serious graphics game. No proper company should expect us to purchase a device with an unlisted dependency on the air temp being below 70F...
I just got off the phone with a Toshiba manager, whose idea of a solution was for me to keep bringing it in for repairs. When I asked him about a refund, he said I had had it more than 15 days. (I waited 3 weeks to play a game on it...and they would have wanted a 15% restock fee for returns anyway...)

This review will cover my experience in setting up, updating, and general use of this laptop.My family and I have had various brands of computers. Before we tried this one, we've had HP, ASUS, and Gateway. We have one wireless router that has been working well for several years. We have an older iPad, two iPhone 4S smartphones, an iPhone 3g that's used as an iPod by our 8 year old son, and a couple gaming systems. Before this newest addition to our electronics world, everything was working just fine.
Enter Toshiba. We knew this was going to be bigger than the laptops we were used to, but this was bigger than expected. It's not too big for home use. I wouldn't want to lug it around an airport on a vacation trip though.
This thing is gorgeous. The back-lit keyboard is in red. The logo on the outside glows red when closed and its really a good looking computer.
The power cord is much thicker and bigger than any others we've used before, but to feed this powerhouse I guess you have to have a good flow of juice. The way it connects is different than others we've had. The plug has a larger diameter insert. It doesn't feel like it really plugs in very solidly. I can only wonder how it will hold up over time as it gets moved around the house being plugged and unplugged.
The initial start-up was fast and easy. When we went to download some larger programs from the Internet, it would bog down and lose our wireless Internet connection. This happened over and over. We went to Toshiba's website and made sure to install and update all new and current drivers. We spent about two hours researching potential issues online until we decided we couldn't figure it out and called Toshiba.
After going thru the normal automated phone system we finally reached a person with Toshiba. He asked typical questions. He did not attempt to have us do any software updates. Instead he had us do a complete restore which he said would take several hours. We were not happy. He tried to get us off the phone and to have us call back later when the computer is finished, but we kept insisting a restore would not fix anything since it was probably a driver or software issue. He pushed our issue to a Tier Two person. As we were talking with her, the computer restore function finished. It took maybe 20 minutes, not hours like we were told. This lady remoted into the computer. She had us download some programs which would cause the computer to lose the wireless Internet connection. She went into our router and changed the frequency, but that had no positive effect. As she was remoting into the machine she went to the Toshiba website and check the updates and drivers. All the newest updates and drives were installed. After a couple hours she basically said we would have to box it up and sent to Toshiba. We insisted there must be an issue with the driver for the wireless card. She had us download the driver and save it on the desktop. As she was talking to us on the phone, she had us uninstall the driver that was in the computer and restart it. Of course this made it where we could not connect wirelessly until we opened and installed the wireless driver. We found out the newest version of the driver was not working, but when an older version from earlier this year was installed everything was good in the world again.
Overall we spent over seven hours working on this computer just to get it running like it is supposed to. Had we not stuck to our guns, it would've taken much longer and it would've been sent back to Toshiba just to probably have the same issue again. We were told they were sending this to their developers so hopefully by the time you read this, you won't have this same issue.
We use this computer to operate a Silhouette Cameo Starter Kit Bundle Cutter with the Designer software and a Cricut Expression Electronic Cutting Machine with Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software, that need a lot of system power to run. These cutting machines were previously connected to a smaller computer with much less power and size and when we used it, it would slow down and take some time to complete a crafting project. With this Toshiba, there's not one hiccup. It blazes thru it.
I'd say our precious computers were more like an economic 4 cylinder manual transmission and this Toshiba is at least a V8 automatic powerhouse.
This isn't your basic, entry level computer. So, if you're considering this we imagine you know what your looking for.
