At 8.5 by 11 inches, fits in my wife's purse.

Great keyboard, good screen, more powerful than a netbook, saves on power as a desktop replacement.

Is currently running PlayOn and Tonido, acting as a server.

I can not speak to the supplier. I purchased my same make and model through Toshiba direct. What I can tell you is my product arrived with a dangerous defect. The housing itself is not ground. What this means is, when the computer is plugged into a wall, it sends an electric current through the casing where you rest your hands. My husband and I physically measured this with an ohms meter.

Customer service was awful. Hours upon hours being put on hold and transferred ended in me sending the computer back only to receive it back after 10 days with a note that said... and I quote..." All voltage and current measurements are within international specifications. No trouble found. They measured input and output, without addressing the lack of ground at all! 3 hours more, being jumped from phone number to phone number, person to person, ended in being assigned a case number to await a call back, but not before being argued with over the fact that a senior tech specialist took the measurements on the input and output and no problem was found. THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM!

2 days since my last wasted breath with this company and still no return phone call. Save your blood pressure. Pick another brand.

I got this product through Toshiba Direct last week. I got the 12gb RAM, but other than that I have the same specs. The PC is a gem. The battery is not impressive, but it works for about 3 hours and since it wakes up in a second from sleep, I just close the PC when I don't use it. It wakes up in a second. The touch screen is a lot of fun too! I recommend this product. It is light for its size and simply feels good to use. It is a good deal for what its got. Beautiful. Using a computer feels a lot better.

I wont get too specific but I would like to say this, it runs smooth, sound quality is excellent, I can run ALL the Total War Games to max settings, as well as Skyrim which should indicate that this Baby will not only be able to handle the upcoming Rome 2 game but also most other games. By the way yes this is also a good Laptop for COD and Battlefield fans! Gaming laptop on the cheap with a nice size screen for when you travel or are at home. How can you go wrong? One of the best investments I made in the last 3 years! Get em before these gems become better known possibly driving the price up more!

I purchased this laptop mainly for entertainment/gaming purpose This 17" laptop has some of the best specs I was able to find within the price of $700+.

[Pros]

Graphical capability: I tested several 2008~2011 graphics demanding games using high to ultra settings, and all of them run perfectly fine.

Heat dissipation: Apple laptops and some HP laptops are notorious for heating (or even overheating) when the user is using them for any graphically demanding tasks. This laptop doesn't have that problem.

Price: As I said above, a 17" laptop with these specs is quite a bargain for the price. (I almost considered buying an Alienware, but unless you're a power gamer that always plays the most recent high end games, this laptop would be a more suitable alternative).

[Cons]

Lousy initial setup: If you have purchased a laptop before, you know they usually come with pre-installed bloatwares; this one is not an exception. Also, I noticed that the drivers are not up-to-date, and UEFI BIOS also needs to be updated.

Wireless card: My neighbor and I share the same wi-fi, and the modem is located in her living room. Even though it's a little bit far from my bedroom, in the past, I have no problem connecting my Macbook Pro to the internet. However, I have noticed that Acer-771G has a significantly lower reception range than my MBP, and it frequently loses connections. The connection slightly improved after I did the updates mentioned above, but it is still far from satisfactory. (See this link for more details: http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/Acer-wifi-limited-connectivity-issue/td-p/3405)

[Neutrals]

Build quality: The casing feels rather cheap and brittle, but you shouldn't be asking for more with a powerful laptop of this price.

Design: This is more of a personal statement I have to admit that the physical design of the laptop still has a great amount of room for improvement.

Windows 8: From a technical standpoint, this version of OS is indeed less user-friendly than Windows 7. But if you're well-versed with technology, it shouldn't be a problem. I have been using the laptop for a few days now, and the learning curve is not steep at all. The alternative solution would be to spend $4.99 and purchase Stardock's Start8 If you prefer the conventional Windows start button: http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

I was a little apprehensive buying a new computer online with no reviews but this ended up being a great purchase. I needed a new notebook for DJing/music production and occasional gaming and decided on this one. This notebook is FAST and runs everything I throw at it nicely; Ableton Live, Serato DJ, Sleeping Dogs and other newer PC games, and just media in general such as 1080p YouTube videos and things like that. The screen is big and bright, with a native resolution of 1600x900 which, while not true 1080p, is more than sufficient for my needs. I really like the piano black finish and so far it hasn't really been a fingerprint magnet because I wash my hands.

The downsides? There are a couple but they are relatively minor in my opinion. The first is Windows 8; I truly hate this operating system and the first thing I did when I got this notebook was format the HDD and reinstall Windows 7. The battery life also kind of sucks at 4 hours max, but really I keep this thing plugged in 90% of the time. It's also pretty big so it's not the most portable of laptops but for my needs that's not an issue, really, but if you are a frequent traveler I'd look into a smaller option.

Basically, if you are like me and need a notebook that will be used at home 90% of the time then this is a good choice.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire V3-771G-6814 17.3-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black)

I got this computer after Amazon jacked up the price of it's older model by $150. I bought this laptop so I can do studio work on it and some gaming on the side. On first impression I was amazed at how fast it was, and how bright and crisp the screen is. After the quick set up of windows 8, I noticed that it came pre-loaded with some annoying software. After spending the better part of my afternoon removing it I got down to installing my own programs. The computer runs almost flawlessly. No matter what I throw at it, there seems to be little to no issues. This is due to the 2.6 Ghz i5 processor. The turbo boost on it really means that this is a 3.2Ghz core. The 8 Gb of ram is amazing, and the Hard drive isn't nearly as slow as some people would make it out to be. When I ran some games I was amazed at what the Nvidia 730m can do. I ran Crysis 1 at max settings and had no lag whatsoever and Fallout: NV runs at Ultra high, also no lag. This thing is FAST! Another nice bonus is that the built in speakers are fantastic. They are some of the best sounding laptop speakers I have ever heard.

Once it became time to charge my laptop I noticed a few things. This computer when running at a moderate workload will only last about 2-2.5 hours. If you are really working hard (or gaming hard) the laptop will die on you in about an hour after full charge. Once I plugged in my computer I noticed that it has an irritating little beep that it makes every time you Plug/unplug it. This wouldn't be a problem i thought, but after a few min. of charging it beeped again. Something was causing my computer to charge on and off and thus making it produce that irritating beeping noise over and over again, however this may be just an independent issue. Another small problem is the black on the computer is very shiny and it stains with fingerprints very easy. This means that every time you go to open or close the computer, you leave a mark, and when you type, your hands are on the black under the keyboard and your palms are smudging the finish. Another thing about the computer is that i didn't know how big a 17.3 inch screen would really be. This laptop is not the most portable, but If you are stationary 90% of the time, you shouldn't notice a problem with it.

In short: The computer runs like a dream, but there are still some things to be desired. I love it and would recommend it to my friends. This computer gives you the most bang for your buck when you are looking at mid-high end laptops!

I recently bought this laptop after much deliberation with other laptop brands. Let me firstly state that I was not into Acer products, but after reading some great reviews and hearing from some friends with good experiences I decided to buy this.

So far, after about one month of owning this laptop I am most pleased. For one thing this is superb value for money... I mean really $726 for a laptop with these specifications is almost unheard of. By comparison, a Dell with these same specifications is about $1,600.

My requirements for this laptop are simple basic use of microsoft office, internet browsing, iTunes and the odd movie or game. This exceeded my expectations. I did read several reviews where this could be used as a gaming laptop and I do agree that it can be. The graphics card (4GB NVIDIA GeForce) and processor (2.6GHz with turbo boost to 3.2GHz) and RAM (a whopping 8GB) would easily support gaming. The 17" display is also awesome though I do feel that for gaming you'd want a full HD (1920 x 1080) versus this HD screen (1600 x 900). For me that is just a matter of semantics cause the 1600 x 900 suits be perfectly for what I want and the a couple of hudred bucks for full HD made no sense to me (especially since I have full HD TV with Bluray player and and IPAD with retina display which itself is beyong full HD).

I love the fact that there is a number pad since this makes use of excel so much easier. The touchpad is nice and very responsive. The laptop is not noisy and even the hard drive and fans are very silent even under heavy use (for example downloading movies from iTunes). The laptop is cool to touch and compared to my now retired HP pavillion, the heat generated by this Acer is so much less.

I've seen people complain about the piano black finish but that is not a big deal for me. Yes fingerprints show up but I just wipe it off with a microfiber cloth and voila new again. I mean really what do a few of YOUR fingerprints on YOUR laptop matter when you have such a high performance beast to use. It's like a car it will get dirty with use but just clean it!

No onto what I consider the very debatable issue of Windows 8. I admit that reading all the negatives of windows 8 did cause me to reconsider this laptop. I decided to buy the laptop and install windows 7 as needed. I still run windows 8, have no issues with it and have no intention of installing windows 7. I have grown accustomed to windows 8 and admittedly quite like it. There is that home screen with all the tiles and apps, but the desktop is the same as other windows and the functionality of windows is the same. While it may be difficult to location certain "feature" of windows we have grown to know and love, the Search feature of windows 8 enables you to type in anything you want an quickly locate it on the laptop to perform your device configuration, setup a wireless and even access control panel. As far as I am concerned widows 8 was a change from the norm, but I am cool with it. Even my wife who is a technophobe of sorts is happy with using windows 8.

The fast processor, harddrive and RAM plus windows 8 makes for record laptop boot time. After pressing the ON button the laptop boots up and and the logon screen appears within 22 seconds. After entering the password and hitting enter, 8 seconds to home screen. Launch a program (iTunes, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer), 5-10 seconds. I mean you can literally power up this machine and start yor work within a minute. Excellent for me!

The only flaw I saw was the boat load of nonsense apps that Acer preloaded on this machine. I tookthe advice of a fellow reviewer and removed all the unwanted apps by uninstalling the program from control panle and/or uninstalling the program from the home screen. The best way to figure which app to remove is to look at the full list of progams in control panel and then launch each program to see what it does and if you need it. If you don't need it uninstall it. I kept a few like the acer power management and mediaespresso. The rest were just out of the window. There is one particular app Soluto which takes up alot of memory and all this app seems to do is launch internet explorere and display the configuration of the Acer machine.... LAME!!!!

It took me about two hours to remove the unwanted apps. To get this laptop to where I wanted it to be tooke me about one day and that involved familiarising myself with windows 8, uninstalling apps/junk programs, installing anti virus software, installing micorsoft office, installing iTunes, and updating Java and flash player. Most of that time though was waiting for programs to download, waiting for programs to uninstall so while I did spend a day to get the laptop in order, I was off doing other things while programs were downloading or uninstalling.

I am pleased with this purchase and I am sure you will be as well. This is a great laptop and great value for money.

I'm enjoying this computer and so far, after a couple of weeks, I'm having no problems with it. Windows 8 takes some getting used to but it's easier than I expected. When I go into normal programs I use the desk top which is readily available in the start menu. I don't use all of the programs in the start menu by choice. Some of them are great. Others I just have no interest in. The display is beautiful and sharp. As of now I am very happy with this purchase. I would give it a 5 star rating but it's to new.

I have to say when I got it first and saw the specifications on the processor being 1.10gHz I was upset to see such a small processing speed, but I don't know what Toshiba did but the graphics card, sound card and unique processing quality was somewhat mind-blowing. For someone that is getting a laptop for the first time or wants something small that packs a punch to be used for business but still wanna play a few game (for me it was fifa 13) but still rock out to music, I can say this pc is capable of doing that.

I bought this laptop in july 2013. I even gave $28.00 for extended warranty. In Sept.2013 I turned it Off one night & went to bed. The next morning when I turned it on I got a screen asking for a BIOS password. I have never set a password for Bios. I could not get it on. So I called Toshiba support & told them about the Bios password problem. They had me try a few things while I was on the phone with them, but nothing worked. So they said I'd have to send it to their repair depot to be repaired. I had a choice of boxing it myself & sending it & be responsible for damages during shipping Or buy their box for $24.95. To be on the safe side I bought their $25.00 box. Four days after it arrived at their repair depot I got an email saying that repair was on hold because the main board had to be replaced & that it wasn't covered under warranty. I freaked!. I emailed the repair depot & ask them how could a 3 month old laptop main board not be covered under warranty. Four hours later they emailed me back & said I didn't send them a BIOS password & to either send them a BIOS password or $114.00 to repair it or it would be sent back to me unrepaired. Well I spent an hour on the phone with hump teen different people in Toshiba support. They all said that the BIOS password problem was not covered under the warranty even if I never set one. Bottom line..their warranty is useless. I told them to send it back to me unrepaired. LET IT BE KNOWN..TOSHIBA CORP.HAS GOT THE LAST PENNY FROM Don in Alabama. So if your thinking of buying a Toshiba product..you better hope you won't need the warranty. I actually have three Toshiba laptops but I will never buy a Toshiba product again because of this experience.

I bought mine in August 2008. It comes with Vista 64-bit but I found that some programs I wanted to install would not so I installed Vista 32-bit (CD & instructions were included when I bought mine). It does not have a S-video outlet(I miss it). I have not figured out how to connect it to my TV yet without S-video. After changing from 64-bit to 32-bit I had some minor issues reinstalling the drivers. I had to call GATEWAY SUPPORT. My problem was taken care of. I recently noticed that when I use any equalizer on any music player (Win. I-Tunes. Jet Audio etc) the music level goes down instead of up when I increase the settings. WEIRD!! I'm in the process of trying to fix that bug. The lay out of the KEY BOARD is not standard. The ENTER & BACKSPACE buttons are smaller than usual and I keep hitting the buttons next to them. The CTRL & ALT buttons are not where I'm used to having them on other boards. It has a 3-pronged power cord so make sure your outlets are 3-pronged receptables. It could be a problem when traveling on the road. Other than that I have no other problems with it.

I love this laptop. It's very fast, graphics are crisp, resolution is great. Not too heavy just ove 6.3 lbs. This is also my first year using VISTA so some of it has to do with the difference between VISTA & XP.

I recomend this laptop but if you change from 64 bit to 32 bit be prepared for some WTF momments. Oh by the way I tried to put XP on it but GATEWAY says they do not support XP on it. I could not get XP to install.

I guess if I was a geek I could find ways around it.

This laptop is everything you'd expect from a high-end gaming laptop. From inside to outside, all features and components have been designed for top notch gaming performance.

This particular model utilizes Intel's latest CPUthe 4th generation i7 8 Core processor which packs more processing potential than most users will ever need.

This model is loaded with 16 gigabytes of DDR3 RAM and is upgradable to 32 gigabytes. This is more RAM than most games will recommend for system requirements.

The GPU is Nvidia's latest mobile modelthe GeForce GTX 770m. Packing 3 gigabytes of super fast GDDR5 dedicated VRAM this bad boy will push high frame rate benchmarks even under high graphical settings. Some games will drop significantly in frame rates under super max video settings due to poor game run engines but I have never been happier with graphics performance since purchasing this laptop. This system also comes equipped with a super cooling feature at the push of a button. The fan system will kick into high gear and DROP temperatures of the CPU and GPU to extremely admirable levels making this laptop very versatile. This mobile GPU is second only to the GeForce GTX 780m which is Nvidia's top GPU model.

Three USB 3.0 slots. Two USB 2.0. Top of the line networking adapters for WiFi, LAN etc... The keyboard is the new SteelSeries with a customizable backlit keyboard that may be adjusted at the touch of a button. I have to stress how comfortable and responsive this keyboard is. I have never type so fast on another keyboard. The keyboard on this laptop is truly a wonder in and of itself.

The sound system is remarkable. Three speakersleft, right and bottom. Crisp and clear sound. No crackling or muffling. Even has some bass to it. The sound system is the best you can get for laptops. You won't be disappointed.

THE ONE FLAW...

This particular model comes with only a 7200RPM HDD. It has an open bay to add a solid state drive which will greatly increase performance when and if you upgrade. The system comes with a mounting bracket specifically for this SSD upgrade. It will be located inside the box with the power supply in a sealed bag. Windows will score this laptop at a very insulting 5.9 due to the HDD being the lowest sub score. The processor and memory score a whopping 7.9 and the graphics/gaming graphics score a very nice 7.1. Once upgraded, this laptop will score an all around 7.1.

Buyers will be pleased nonetheless. I am so happy with this system.

Got it about 3 weeks ago

Quite powerful. I can use it for both development and gaming.

The sound system can be set to much more louder level than it was in my previous laptop -HP TouchSmart (which is good if you are going to watch movies without headphones).

Only one thing that seemed not to be perfect -I can clearly hear HDD and other electronic noises in my headphones, so consider buying external USB sound card if you like listening to music and have a good pair of headphones.

Best Deals for MSI Computer Corp. MSI GT70 2OC-059US;9S7-176312-059 17.3-Inch

Had this about a week and with exception of Windows 8 (not an MSI issue) I'm very impressed and happy. Quality feel; doesn't feel plastic and cheap. Keybaord is responsive and quiet. Backlighting is nice as it helps in low light situations. Screen and display is crisp and bright at 50% brightness. Battery charge is decent if the Nvida GPU isn't engaged. Runs quiet as well but when the fan revs up under load it will be noticed; louder than most desktops I think.

I've only run into 2 issues and potential issue, which I haven't yet figured out: 1) Nvida drivers won't update, 2) Sims 3 will not run. On 1), the driver update will start to Install then fail due to not finding "compatible hardware". Everything seems to be working with Nvida graphics; Device manager shows its working properly, Nvida driver website recognizes the GPU and recommends the driver update. Running it or saving it and then running it locally results in the same error.

On 2) the game loads fine but when it enters game mode from a typical install and game updates from launch console, Windows displays a messages that it had problems and is terminating the TS3 program. Made recommended adjustments the DEP and then game goes into "game mode" but then blacks out". Sometimes get a popup saying TS3.exe has been prohibited from accessing graphics hardware. Only way out is hard reboot. The kids weren't happy but I uninstalled the program and will continue to look for a solution. THe potential issue deals with the BD burner not always recognizing a disc I load. SOmetimes I'll have to open and close the drive several times before it will recognize its loaded and display in Explorer.

Win 8 is just a terrible interface for laptop/desktop use. Not efficient at all. Some movements from the mouse or touchpad will take you from your app or desktop window to the tile window. Just very annoying.

If you don't want a big and heavy laptop then don't buy this. The physical specs are pretty true; it's big, barely fits in my Victronoix messenger which is for most 17" laptops. The power unit is also big and heavy. It's 180W supply so be ready.

Pros: Incredibly fast I-7 Processor, High-end Nvidia graphics card for the price range, sleek backlit keyboard, high quality harmon/kodon speakers, nice metallic finish

Cons: Screen resolution is lacking, ever-so-slight scratching sound

I would have given this five stars had it not been for the lackluster screen resolution. Honestly, everything about this laptop would make you think it's a laptop priced over $1000 (I got it for $750 off Rakuten which used to be buy.com), except for the screen resolution. My mom also bought a laptop recently from Dell for $350 and it has the exact same screen resolution now tell me there isn't something wrong with that. But otherwise, it's a powerful mid-range laptop that will probably last me for a while.

Well mine is anyways, it survived a yard fall with no damage. sure the keys start popping off once in a while, but it's simple to plug them back in. I'd recomend this one for people who are resonpsible, like vista, and are ok with 2 GB ram max. It can run most things well, but for more things that require high processig power and graphics, I'd say go get a newer laptop.

This is a great Laptop i have owned for 6 years now. It handels all my web design programs like flash, dreamweaver, photoshop, illistrator, and games like a champ. I did upgrade ram to 4gb to keep up with the demand and it works great. I do recommend this laptop if on a budget. This laptop can do it all, and the processor is fairly powerful. Here are some sites i built with this laptop. AcepStore dot c o m , Applerageous dot c o m. When i bought this laptop 5 6 years ago it cost me about 1,200.00 and still runs like a champ. I just bought myself a new dell xps laptop and tested running programs at the same time and they start up and run programs at same time.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron E1505 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz T7200 Intel Core 2

It surpassed all my expectations. It was in excellent condition, quick and fully functional. Only two drawbacks, battery died out quick and when scrolling down a website, the page would fragment a bit, but other than that it's a perfect piece of equipment for a university student or any corporate work. Highly recommend it if you don't want to break the bank.

This is a sturdy laptop and solid construction. Windows 7 runs smooth and solid. I like it, used other systems and moved back to Windows. Installed Ubuntu Linux also and it also runs great! Not disappointed. Screen, wifi, battery life is all good. Installed BatteryBar Pro and it gives accurate measurements. I have used IBM and now Lenovo for past 8 years and has been very satisfied as a rugged systems for highly mobile uses.
