I've had this massive screened beauty for 4-months now with not a single glitch! I replaced a 15" Dell XPS, and this larger screen size is very welcomed. Here are some observations:

1. Sheer size. This laptop is in the category of DTR (desk top replacement). In other words, this machine is large enough to feel like an acceptable replacement to a full blown desktop system. The beauty of a DTR is how much cleaner your desk will look with the laptop open or closed.

2. The screen is bright and beautiful. The glass covers nearly the entire lid and there is a 1/2" black framing under the glass on the sides and bottom. The framing is slightly larger on the top where the web-cam resides.

3. The lid operates solidly. It does not have a wobbly feel. The hinge is tight enough that when you open the laptop, you have to hold down the lower half of the machine as if you are prying the two halves apart.

4. The keyboard is full size and includes a ten-key number pad. The keys are what is called 'chicklett' style. The keys operate properly but I am still not used to the unique arrangement of some of the key. Especially annoying are the dedicated half-size directional arrow keys. I could turn off the NumLock and use those arrows, but I use numbers a lot. The back-lit keyboard is a first for me, and I like it a lot!

5. This machine does play (but not burn) BluRay. (Honestly, blank BD disks are still expensive. An external USB drive is a better method of data storage.) Also plays and burns DVD & CD. This optical drive is a tray loader. I prefer slot loading only because when I have the tray extended I always feel like I could accidentally break it.

6. The sound system is incredible! Six speakers including a sub-woofer. When watching a movie on this computer I'm about 3-feet from the screen, and the picture quality and great sound are in competition with my large screen HDTV and THX sound system. It's that good.

7. Of the 5 USB ports, one is USB 3.0 which allows my primary backup drive to do it's job in a fraction of the time compared to USB 2.0.

8. Because of the sheer size, I will not be hauling this around on a regular basis. I have a netbook that I carry to school. But I did want to have a case for this machine for those rare occasions. Again, because it's to big, finding a case took hours of searching! Here is the model I found that I purchased. Cut and paste this into Amazon's search bar: Everki Advance Laptop Bag Briefcase, Fits up to 18.4-Inch (EKB407NCH18). (I wrote a review on that case love it.)

9. The machine connects rapidly to wi-fi. There is an easy access dedicated button on the front left edge of the device that instantly brings up the wi-fi and bluetooth toggles.

10. The bottom line for me when selecting this machine was company reputation and price. The laptop has perfectly handled all the heavy processing digital media editing and processing software that I have installed. Not a single burp in four months.

I would feel comfortable recommending this machine to any friend or relative seeking a DTR. In the realm of 18"+ screens, the market is still narrow. You could go with another manufacturer and pay more. Just compare the specifications and make your own wise decision.

I have had this laptop for only a couple months and it is still under warranty. The battery life is nice but I have already sent it in twice to be fixed. The first time was because of a crashing issue and the second time was because a group of pixels in the screen died. Each time I had to pay for shipping and was without a computer for more than a week.

My real issue is that after getting the laptop back from the pixels issue, less than two days later more pixels died. I called ACER customer support and they told me that I would have to pay for the screen to be replaced this time even though the laptop was still under warranty. I find it unacceptable to be required to pay to replace something that they were just supposed to have fixed two days ago!

Pros: Excellent overall package.

Classy understated aesthetics, with a nice brushed aluminum finish.

Solid construction, very rigid for it's size. Seems slimmer and smaller than you'd think for an 18.4" screen.

Keyboard ergonomics are good, keys are well spaced and have a nice tactile feedback.

The removable touch-pad works well and is actually more than a novelty. It works in both normal and landscape orientation.

System stays cool and quiet during normal use, and only gets a bit louder and warmer when running games.

Speakers are surprisingly good, for a laptop mind you...

The Hard Drive is formatted as just one partition (Yay!).

Came pre-installed with Windows 7 Ultimate!? Not advertised as such, but thanks!

Has a minimum of "bloatware". Took me about an hour to get everything the way I like it.

Pretty much everything you could want in a "desktop replacement". An outstanding value for this role. There is nothing it can't do, truly a Jack of All Trades.

Cons: Just a little shy in the memory dept. 1333mhz, or at least the option to upgrade would have been nice.

The video card is not top-of-the-pile, but it is a nice mid-level card with good battery and thermal performance.

The hard drive really shoulda been a 7200RPM. This machine has some serious horsepower but it somewhat hamstrung by it's slowish (but spacious!) hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I have owned many laptops over the last 20 years, this is the best one yet. I use it for CAD, 3D Scanning, 3D Printing, Office Apps, Internet, Games, Videos, etc... While not the absolute best at any one of them, it excels at all of them.

I would have paid another $200 for a better Hard Drive and Video Card.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire AS8951G-9600 18.4" Notebook PC

Acer didn't even bother to wire the 2nd hard drive bay.

It costs you $60+ for the cable and brackets and lots of research to make the laptop usable.

I will NEVER buy an Acer again.

After about 10 months, it quit turning back on after sleep. Now, it just randomly shuts off after being on for a while. Before that, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

I bought this product on Black Friday at Best Buy for $499.99. I am glad that I didn't pay the price listed. Overall the computer is great, but there are a few things that bother me. It's a Windows 8 computer, and sometimes when I drag my finger across the touch pad, it sends me back to the previous app that I had open off of the main screen. I can easily get back to what I was doing but it shouldn't happen to begin with. Physically, the black surrounding the screen pops when I move it (like when I am adjusting the screen forward and backwards, I don't just randomly squeeze my computer).

The computer is very fast and it's taken a little bit to get used to since I am going from a Windows 7 to a Windows 8. I haven't figured out how to put Microsoft on the desktop (or any icon on to the desktop) but I am sure I will figure that out sooner or later. The sound on this is great (especially compared to my old Acer computer) and I find myself only having it halfway and it's still a little loud for my taste! I didn't have any trouble setting up wireless or Microsoft Defender (the Windows 8 version of Microsoft Essentials) but Norton did get in the way from setting it up at first. There are a lot of available apps that you can put on the front screen, a lot of them being free!!

I found it strange that all of the function keys are opposite from what I am used to; for example: before I would press F5 and the page would refresh, but now I have to press FN F5 for it to refresh and the other function (the backlit keyboard on and off) is the first function. I hope that makes sense!

The keyboard is easy to type on, and the letters aren't having any problem with sticking. They are soft in a way and it's very comfortable.

I set up my computer so that when I unlock it, I have to swipe my finger on the scanner and I haven't had any problems with that either. It's kind of fun having such a personal computer!

I would suggest this product for someone else.

I just got this computer and so far I love it. Not to up to date with the newest laptops and programs so I have to say this has been very easy for me to work with and learn as I go. its amazing what this laptop can do. so far so good. I have a great feeling about this investment. Anyways thanks for listening. : )

Best Deals for HP ENVY m6-1125dx 15.6" Laptop - 3rd Gen. Intel-Core i5-3210M 8GB

Cons:

I have owned many HP laptops in my day. It just ends up happening. I do not like that they put in a bunch of HP software that I never use and perpetually gets in my way. Also, the first unit I purchased had some weird glitch where every 65 second the DVD drive would pop open. However, now that I have a working one I like it so much I felt the need to review it. Also, this computer is trying really hard to be an Apple product. It's silver shell and black back lit keyboard echo that of a Macbook. However, it is light and feels like a cheaper version of the apple product. Finally, there is a movement to change the design of the arrow keys so that left and right buttons are full sized but up and down buttons are half sized. I use these buttons all the time and the half sized buttons are annoying.

So enough of the negatives. What are the things that make this a four star product?

1. It is a cheaper product. It costs over 50% less than an apple product. I love the price. And I think for what is paid the laptop offers a lot.

2. Backlit keyboard. It is a perk I have been waiting for. they seems to usually be reserved for ultrabooks. It is nice to see the price point drop on this feature.

3. I am not much of a computer "guts" kind of guy. I just want the computer to do what I want it to. I do not need to know all the inside stuff. I do know that the audio quality is good and I am able to run my PC games well on it without issue. I have heard reviews saying the screen is cheap but I have no complaints. It is higher quality than the laptop it replaced and for that i am grateful. I do not think the average user will feel cheated when it comes to the display quality.

Overall, I just like it. It works well and I feel comfortable using it.

Honest reviews on HP ENVY m6-1125dx 15.6" Laptop - 3rd Gen. Intel-Core i5-3210M 8GB

I bought this laptop on sale at Best Buy about six months ago. My old desktop PC was dying, and I decided to go with a single computer for both home use and travel. The HP Envy M6 had the specs I wanted, and even though I didn't want Windows 8, I'm learning to use it. So far, it's been a great computer, except for one serious problem the screen failed after only a few weeks. Since the laptop was still under warranty, I took it to Best Buy, and they returned it to HP. The repairs were made, and the laptop was returned to me eight days later, which is pretty good service.

I like most of the features of the laptop, but the one that stands out most is the backlit keyboard. My eyesight isn't the best, but the backlighting makes the keys very visible, so much so that I don't know how I ever got along without this feature. The USB 3.0 ports are great, and I've replaced some of my older USB 2.0 devices to take advantage of the greater speed of USB 3.0. My wife has an older HP laptop that lacks the backlit keys and USB 3.0, so I know how handy both of those features are.

I'm running MS Office 2007, Google Chrome, and other miscellaneous software with no problems. The laptop boots very quickly, and I have to thank HP for not loading it up with crapware like some manufacturers do. The Beats Audio has good sound for a laptop, but I usually use earbuds when I'm listening to music. Weighing just over five pounds, the laptop isn't much of a burden for traveling, and the case seems sturdy enough.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the HP Envy M6 laptop. It has the computing power and speed of many desktops, and I'm enjoying using it as my primary computer.

First off, I bought this laptop brand new on ebay for about $400.

Now on to the laptop itself. I wasn't expecting much except for an ultrathin laptop. I was actually quite impressed when I first booted it up. Before this laptop I had any extremely bulk HP Probook 4436s with extended battery that was a pain to take around college. It had 8 GB of ram but suddenly, after booting one day, only recognized 4. That laptop died for reason I don't know why, but anyways back to this review.

Acer didn't cut any corners with this sleek laptop. It has a nice sleek brushed aluminum look and very minimal plastic. This ultrabook is so sleek that I can carry in my backback and barley notice it as my textbooks sometimes weigh even more then this. The performance of the core i3 1.5GHz is good for the needs of me, a college student. I can do web surfing with multiple browser windows/tabs open at a time and still have minimal lag. The 4GB on memory is soldered onto the board so it is NOT upgradeable if that is what you are looking for. It is speedy enough to do work on Libre office. Boot times are fast, but the sleep wake time is a little longer then what they state. It is more around 2 seconds but still not bad as my old laptop would take 15+.

The keyboard is extremely nice to type on. It is very quite and when I press a key I don't have problems with it not registering. I am a touch typer so I am more gentle then others when typing. My old HP would have problems with registering a key click and it would bug the crap out of me as I had to constantly go back and fix "lok" and "shool" from my writing. This is not a problem present in this Acer.

There is very minimal heat when this computer is doing basic tasks like word processing and surfing. It does get a little hot, I would say around 90-100 F but I don't know exactly. The fan is quite and even when it does turn on it is blaring loud like other laptops can sometimes get. If doing an intensive task it will get louder but nothing that isn't bearable.

The screen is altogether great for the price. It is not full HD like other screens but then again you aren't paying an extra $100 either. Viewing angles from looking from the top are bad. If viewing from the side or bottom it mostly gets dim and glare is more noticeable. As there isn't a anit-glare coating that I can see of. Colors are vivid on medium to high brightness.

The charger that is lightweight and doesn't feel like you are lugging around a giant brick. Also, it is somewhat small and fits nicely into a bag. Can't really say much more about that since I am not a electrician.

Had it for about two weeks and am so far impressed with this slim, speedy little beast. Might write another review after I get some more real world data.

My wife has had hers for several months and I decided to order one as well. I love the 13" screen, light weight, no noisy fan, no cooling ports on bottom to worry aout blocking, never hot, quick start-up, construction. Note price fluctuates dramatically so one has to watch daily. Mine from Amazon was $426 incl. shipping. My old 15.5" Compaq was inexpensive and totally reliable but now its' size and weight etc seems like a dinosaur in comparison.

Best Deals for Acer 13.3" Laptop 4GB 500GB + 20GB SSD | S3-391-6448

This is a very nice laptop for the price. I paid under $350 for a refurbished unit and at that price point this laptop is unbeatable. The track pad is a bit "clunky", but that's not a deal breaker. It's light weight and ultra thin profile is fantastic and every bit as good as the ones that cost $300 $400 more. The time to up and running from sleep mode is very quick and the boot up time from a complete power off mode is acceptable for the price. This line of Acer Ultrabooks is at the bottom of the performance and specification spectrum for this category, but unless you place a high demand on your laptop you won't be disappointed in this machine for the price.

Honest reviews on Acer 13.3" Laptop 4GB 500GB + 20GB SSD | S3-391-6448

I just received this laptop for few hours ago. I've using it for about 10 hours and writing this.

First of all, I really liked its light weight compared to my old thick heavy laptop which caused me back pain.

I have charged its battery full and went out with it. After two and a half hours, it died. Apparently, it supposed to be run for at leat 5 hours, since the specification describes it runs about 5.5 hours. I was so not feeling great, because I didn't bring my charger with me, since I thought it would last for at least 4~5 hours. I was only using office word. After that I came back home, and I tried to adjust the brightness of the monitor, but it did not work. It still does not work. I just got the brand-new laptop, even if it is refurbished, I still paid for about $408 including shipping of $8 something. However, surprisingly, the major function does not work!!! It is really horrible... But still, it is worth with this low price. other functions work perfectly find, but the battery running time and control of the brightness.

So I just thought that I am the unfortunate one...ㅜㅜ

Well it is an entry level workstation, but has a professional graphic card not the gaming one. Basically the different are the drivers. I think 15" widescreen is the good balance between portability and getting some work done on a good size screen. The version I ordered from Lenovo is almost max out with the newer technology. I use N draft at home with 5 GHz frequency. When I go to a coffee shop I have no problem connecting to G and B routers. There is also a wimax which is the next big thing that I don't use or have service. There is a little keyboard light which is cool, but I don't use either; gaming laptop have glowing keyboard.

Features:

I can't live without the rubber head mouse; I went one generation last time with a Sony Vaio SZ and had to go back. Mainly Lenovo ThinkPad and Dell Latitude laptops still carry this feature. I got to say I like the design of this laptop better than any of the new curvy edge shiny one you can find at electronic stores. Maybe the new Latitudes look very cool and modern too. Displayport (can use hdmi converter) is a great plus while the PC input is still there. I go the turbo memory and I didn't think its made a differences to the boot up speed or software performance. There aren't really any bloat-ware, but some Lenovo system softwares are hogging too much resources. Loading was a fast as my old Sony Vaio SZ, which is much slower than regular computer, which I wanted the turbo memory would fix, but didn't. I use my finger print scanner to save passwords and that is a feature I have grown to like more and more everyday. I connected my bluetooth keyboard to this once.

Built quality is good,

The speakers went out after a week, but I sent it in and Lenovo fixed it. Also on the way back the hard drive got damage and they sent me a new hard drive and disc so I install the OS. Overall it is solidly built; layout is very good, only flimsy part is the area over the PC express card. No dead pixels or weird screen things.

Performance:

I have Photoshop CS2, sometime do Sketchup and Google earth. There is only a very small difference between my laptop and PC with this software; only on bigger files. I hardly ever lose any connections with my D-link N draft router and this laptop. N draft is better than G, I did lose connection when I had an old g router. I stream Netflix and Hulu and it is almost as good as the hardwire connection of my PC. Beside the boot-up is a little slow, I can say this is powerful enough to replace my PC on most tasks. I thought battery these days will last longer, but they really don't, even if the wifi off. I did a movie test on full charge. Sadly this laptop battery didn't last as long as my 2002 Dell Inspirion 8200 for the movie "Star War" but not by much. I did turn the wifi off. The Vaio performed about the same as this Thinkpad.

Service

I got to say Lenovo is a lot better than Dell. I never had to use Sony. They got my laptop fixed after I sent it in and tracking and call them was very easy. They want to please me, where Dell thought I was stupid (back in 2002). They had diagnostic they told me to do and immediately knew what the problem was hardware or software. They sent me 3 different installation discs. I guess I didn't make myself clear; I got Vista Professional 64bit. They assume things are 32 bit and Vista home if you don't tell them, which I guess I didn't.

I will buy from Lenovo again, and told my brother the same. Quality and service is top notch. Only the speakers went out for some reason.

Don't waist your time. I go to a technology heavy university filled with nerds. Out of over a thousand students with the same school issued laptop not one student has anything good to say about lenevo thinkpads. My class got the w500 and it sucks. The fan has had to be replaced twice now, and the computer still over heats. If you like running creative programs then don't even bother. They randomly turn off, freeze and blue screen like crazy. My school has named them "crap pads" for a reason. I would give it a zero but sadly one star is as low as they go.

I've had my new laptop for 3 weeks. This is my first Asus. Light weight, user friendly, works well for me, so far so good.

Best Deals for ASUS X501A 15.6 in. Pentium 500GB HDD Laptop

I bought this laptop from one sale a day. It looks well built, screen size is enormous. Screen is bright. Charge holds for more than 3 hours while working.

But the keyboard has issues. The space bar does not space unless you hit it in the center hard. I checked to see if anything was stuck below the space bar, but nothing I can see. All other keys are ok, but for some reason you cannot type without hitting the space bar multiple times and trust me you will not believe how challenging it is for normal users to type if the space bar does not do its thing with a normal tap. I have to go back and repeat spacing since all words jumble up. I am not able to see reviews of this issue or discussions. So I will wait to see if ASUS is willing to fix this for me.

Then the touch pad is also weird. This being Windows 8 and the touch pad is so sensitive, when I start typing my mail, I notice the screen jumping to random applications that are either open or trying to be invoked. I cannot put a finger on this issue because of the tiled nature of windows 8 and the new touch pad that is sensitive. Hence documenting just so you know I noticed that problem too.

When I reached out to One Sale a day support, they conveniently told me that this is covered by manufacturer warranty and so I can reach out to ASUS. ( It has been only 2 weeks since I bought this). I will see how that works.

Another issue is that this laptop is so big that it might not fit into many backpacks. So remember that if you want to lug this around while travelling it might be a challenge. But it still is a great looking screen and responsive laptop for this price point.

Purchased this laptop through excaliberPC due to it not being available on Amazon and have been Really impressed. The Raid 0 is what sold me on the product. I love the look and feel of the laptop it's sturdy and durable and weighs a ton. The thing I found most impressive was that this was the first laptop I have ever had that wasn't preloaded with a bunch of junk. I upgraded windows with a fresh install and actually immediately went back to MSI's site to redownload all of the utilities that came with the laptop as I actually missed having them and found that anything that was provided was actually a useful piece of software specifically for this laptop that enhanced the experience. I will note that as one user mentioned previously because you are using a mobile version of Nvidia's kepler architecture it comes pre-set to optimize power consumption and not use the Nvidia card unless needed. This will cause your system to appear like it doesn't recognize the card. Simply go into Nvidia's dashboard and adjust it's settings to use the GTX 680m card only and you will see a major increase in performance.

I bought this laptop after a lot of searching. I was finally in a postition to pull the trigger on something rediculously over-priced.

Before I purchased this laptop I was considering going with a Lenova, but I wanted all the shiny extras like the glowing keyboard that is very personalizable.

First thing I noticed was that the keyboard backlit system stopped working with one of the LED's on the WASD section of the keyboard, including the headphone jack light (which I thought was cool) both stoppped working within the first few days.

The GTX680 is future proof. I won't have to replace this laptop for at least 10 years or until the next gen of gaming arrives.

I went with the 17.3in screen, 1900x1080 resolution. Everything looks amazing, I haven't bought Witcher 2 (and don't plan to) but that has been the only game at this time that people have said they have problems running on max settings.

I have the 750Gig hard drive with a 256SSD, 16g(4x4g) ram.

I have all of my games on max including Skyrim, Borderlands 2, COD Black Ops 2, BF3 (and more downloading) andthey all run amazing.

If I were to do anything different, I would have went with the GTX 675 or the GTX 660, with the higher front side buss 3Megs at least.

This is only because $2,300 is a lot more than $1,700 and IMO not worth the slightly upgraded videocard and 128 extra gigs of SSD.

I am usually a very good deal hunter but this was a gift to myself after buying a crappy non gaming laptop and having buyer's remorse.

I am very happy with this purchase. I hope this helps anyone looking to buy something similiar.

This is now my fourth gaming laptop, never i have ever said completly i don't miss my desktop on my trips, lets face it desktop hardware is just faster as it has much more space to fit bigger coolers, bigger psu, etc. But now im completely amazed with the MSI GT70one, the GTX680m is a really great card, specially for laptops, its very close to the performance of a desktp GTX570, something that imo is truly epic, it run Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 max settings with no hiccups whatsoever even on dense npc areas, niether of those two games are very demanding, but once you have big armys or huger mobs to kill, it will slow down any laptop gpu, with MSi... its like having my desktop on the go.

The Laptop is beautiful imo, the screen is matte (yes no more reflections like asus), the speakers are best in the market second to none, even Asus that has good speakers on the G73/G74 cant compete with dynaudio setup the msi has. The keyboard is a pleasure to work with, its a chiclet island type of keys, but very responsive and you can customize the colors in 3 zones, only thing tha sucks big time is the microphone but not like i see a laptop with a decent one, i always use external in my gaming or video conferencing, and the second drawback is that its not as quiet as my Asus G73, not saying noisy, but you defently know the fan is on, where at times with my Asus i was amazed into how quiet it was.

One thing that i would have love to see was MSI using Samsung 830 msata, i haven't seen hit retail, but i seen them OEM, this imo would been a perfect combo for such a great laptop, still the included ssds are amazing fast and i dont have issues yet, but personally i don't like sanforce controllers... but i guess time will tell.

This is truly a laptop that will handle almost any game at max settings, and probably anything, even encoding. Its expensive, but i dont regret what i spend on it, if you have the means, treat yourself with this super powerful laptop.

Honest reviews on MSI Computer Corp. Notebook Computer GT70 0NE-276US;9S7-176212-276

I am going to do a more in depth Review, but Ill sum it up .. This thing smokes.. and for those of you riding the fence between this and the M17 R4 2012 model...GET THIS ONE! In some of the GPU Benchmarking, the ALienware beat out this system by just hairs, but that was with stock configurations out of the box.. Once one learns how to utilize this machines Overclock ability It smokes the Alienware. Now Im not going to lie, the GT700NE is not the prettiest Gaming Rig on the block, but what you get is uncanny gaming performance, It laughs at every game I've thrown at it on Ultra settings, getting at least 80-90 frames a second and on some 140+.. The only game I haven't tried is the Witcher2, which I hear is too ridiculous even for Desktop Rigs. Yeah the Alienware is SEXY,, I mean real sexy. But Im very glad I went with the MSI.. You will easily pay 1,000 more for the same specs on the ALienware, not to mention the M17's GTX 680M Only sports 2GB of Video Ram, while the MSI has 4GB...At the same time though the Alienware has the 120HZ screen, ready for 3D gaming(a gimick IMO), but barley has the Ram to back it.. The GT70 DOES NOT have a 120HZ screen but will laugh at a 3D compattible game if you hook up to a 120HZ Monitor. My only complaint would be MSI's Customer support, I called them for something simple and was on the phone with machines for over an hour, and had to end up leaving a message just to get called back 3 days later. Alienware(Dell) has unrivaled customer support, and will even come to your house if you buy a warranty through them, WHICH YOU SHOULD BE DOING IF BUYING EITHER ONE OF THESE MACHINES. WIll add more later

I spent about half a month pondering whether i should buy an Alienware of similar specs of go for this one because I did not have a very impressive picture of MSI in my mind.

But i finally hedged my bets and went with this one. And damn i was right. This thing is a beast. It will laugh at any game you throw at it, including BF3. It gives a 60 FPS on BF3 Ultra settings but when you set it to low(which really doesnt make a difference) it gives you a constant 100+.

The SSD Raid 0 Configuration makes this thing boot up in a WHOOPING 9 seconds !!

This is mobile gaming at its best and at a relatively cheap cost ! Don't waste your money in those Alienware's just go ahead and buy this one, you shall not be disappointed.

Top of the line, state of the art product. High quality. Sturdy hinges. Nice keyboard feel and touch. I've used Lenovo Thinkpad T60 for years, with minimal problems. My niece needed a computer upgrade. Researched many products. Bottom line, purchased Thinkpad T520 for her. Increased RAM from 4 to 6 for now, I believe 8 is max. ie5 processor 64 bit Windows 7 Pro. Nice keyboard. Solid, quality product inside and out. Business class. 320 GB hard drive. Room to grow...Easy to set up. Built-in web-cam, nice speakers, sound. This not a super-technical review, just a satisfied user with years of experience with Lenovo Thinkpad products. Thought I'd stick with a good thing.

Only problem I had with my older Thinkpad T60 was internal speaker blew. I just purchased a cheap Jlabs speaker I could plug into usb. Works, no problem. I have a usb-hub to attach more peripherals if I need. NO problems at all. I had the docking station for a while, really didn't need/use it, got rid of it.

For backups I use eGo BlackBelt Portable Hard Drive from iomega compatible with usb 3.0/2.0 500 GB for PC/Mac. Works great, fast, no problems. Small, sleek. Purchased from Best Buy.

I purchased my Lenovo Products from a local reseller where I can just walk in/walk out/upgrade the product. I understand purchasing from Lenovo directly is slow. I think prices are better on Amazon.com, also have option of purchasing an additional warranty. Else, have to get on Lenovo's website to purchase warranty. My reseller did not provide. They claimed to be more knowledgeable than Geek Squad.

This Thinkpad T520 appears to be the next best thing to a Mac for those of us who grew up with PC's. Perfect desktop replacement.

Purchased my previous Thinkpad T60 in January, 08 from reseller, used, off-lease from a larger business. Now July, 2011, still using it. Upgraded RAM, DVD, Jlabs speaker, Windows XP to Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium, that's it. Writing this review on it. Like it just as much now as then. I was tempted to give my niece my used T60 and keep the T520 for myself. Alas, gave her the new one...

I have bought IBM and now Lenovo laptops and desktops for years. While some times Lenovo does not have the "flashy" designs of some competitors, they do have a simple and elegant look. The T520 is a great work and play laptop with a nice keyboard and touchpad. All of the Lenovos I have had have held up. I have used them for teller workstations and business workstations with no problems and now Lenovo is making some really nice consumers desktops as well (I have one as a business workstation).

Laptop needed for road, and this one fits the bill. Very sturdy, easy to configure, with plenty of power and hard drive space. Perfect sweet spot of price/performance.

Honest reviews on Lenovo ThinkPad T520 423946U 15.6-Inch Laptop

Since I received this machine on August 2011, it was sent to repair to a Lenovo authorized dealer 3 times already, on Nov 28th. 2011 they replaced the mother board; on Dec 29th. 2011 they replaced the hard disk; on June 6th 2012 they replaced the motherboard again. The Lenovo warranty expired on Aug. 22th 2012. On Aug. 28th, it had a problem with the hard disk again and I paid to replace it because Lenovo refuses to extend the warranty. Now it is broken again and the problem is with the mother board that needs to be replaced again.

I spend more time fixing this unit than effectively using it. I am very unhappy with this purchase. I never had or heard some saying it was needed to replace a computer motherboard 3 times and hard disk twice in less than 12 months period.

I contacted Lenovo and asked them replace the machine; they claim they cannot because it was bought from a third party dealer and there is not they can do about.

I found other users complaining about the same problem and someone informed that model has a design problem. It has to do with a batch of faulty EEPROM chip used in the Edge series produced at the end of the 2011.

I would like to return this notebook and have the money back or exchange by another one that has the same features, but I have to accept the loss because Lenovo warranty cover only for 12 months period.

I did a ton of research and finally decided to purchase the Lenovo T520. For the first month all was well, then suddenly the computer crashed and blue screened. Lenovo support sent recovery disks which did not work. Then sent a new hard drive that did not work. Two weeks without a computer and I sent it into the depot for repair. The depot had the machine for another week and returned it "repaired". I turned on the machine the first time and it crashed at start up exactly as it had when I sent it in.

Called support and told them I wanted a refund and was told that wasn't an option because I had the machine for 21 days. They said to send it back to the depot for a "level 2" repair. I asked why the machine had ever been returned to me when all someone at the depot had to do was turn it on and watch it crash at start up. Was told they couldn't answer that question. When asked who could, they told me "no one could answer that question". Really!!

I guess I will send it in and trust the "level 2" technicians to have a clue. I'm not optimistic.

Bottom line I will never purchase another Lenovo machine and let my experience be a warning to you.

I've had this computer for about a week now and I really like almost everything about it. My only complaint is that the internal speaker is awful, really awful, and I can't find an equalizer to try to play with the mix. The speaker is so awful (I'm pretty sure my little cell phone has better sound than this thing)I considered sending the computer back. However, I had already loaded all of my files onto it before I tried listening to a CD so I decided that I will get a pair of blue tooth speakers to use instead of the internal speakers. I am enjoying everything else about the computer even Windows 8, which I thought I might hate but is actually quite fun and useful. The seller was terrific. The laptop arrived promptly, was packed well, and was exactly what I ordered.

The product was shipped very promptly. It arrived in perfect condition. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes the cursor seems to get stuck on the left side of the screen. Also, the size of the font changes very easily when on the Internet. Otherwise I really love the computer!

I bought this tablet on its first availability because working around the limitations of iOS has been frustrating for me. I'm very pleased with it nearly 1 week in. The battery life is wonderfully 10hrs plus of normal usage for me. It's as thin and as light as an iPad, well-built and solid with a premium feel, no glitches or quibbles with the tablet hardware. The connector dock looks eerily familiar. Screen resolution is okay, but not dazzling. But I understand HP's very logical choices to go with Intel Atom CPU for much longer battery life than Surface Pro. I love that this is a full windows PC in a thin, light tablet format. I predict this type of tablet will do very well with people who need MS Office and the full unrestricted internet to work.

This is a very beautiful tablet, it is very light and battery life is very long (9 10 hours). It runs full Windows 8 Pro and Microsoft office. This is the ideal tablet for traveling business people.

This tablet is also the only Intel Atom Z2760 (Clover Trail) based tablet that has 2x2 MIMO WiFi solution. All other Intel Atom Z2760 based tablets, i.e. Acer W510, Dell Latitude 10, Lenovo ThinkPad 2, HP Envy X2 ... have only 1x1 WiFi solution. 2x2 MIMO WiFi achieves twice the speed of 1x1 WiFi solution and has a much longer range and much better signal reliability.

(CONS)

No USB port (USB adapter included)

No Snap feature; unable to display two screens simultaneously (Docking station accessory enables this feature on a separate monitor)

No Full HD screen resolution (The trade off is fantastic battery life)

Notes:

The Elitepad 900 is an Atom-based machine. It sacrifices performance for longer battery life. In other words, this tablet can't run demanding programs smoothly (i.e. game applications)

(Highly recommended)

If you're in the market for a tablet, but can't find the right one for you, then look no further. Your problems are solved with the Elitepad 900.

In my family, I have two younger brothers. Neither of them respect personal space. On top of that, I take my laptop practically everywhere with me. I have had this laptop for 5 years and I am on my first need to repair it now. It's been through a lot with me. The touch pad still works, this thing is as durable as laptops could ever be. It's suffered being dropped on the ground, spilled on, all sorts of horrifying things that come with taking care of two younger brothers and it's still working strong. It's fully capable of playing games, I have yet to have it overheat on me even during the summer, and the battery only recently started giving me trouble. After 5 years, the first thing I have to do is get a new battery and have the DVD-R repaired (since it stopped working about 3-4 days ago).

My only complaint would probably be the absolutely craptastic speakers. Some things I watch I can barely hear the audio on top volume, but headphones fix that just find so it's not that big of a deal. That said, if you want a laptop that can handle whatever you throw at it, this is definitely the way to go. I'm the kind of person who uses my laptop more than any healthy person probably ever should and it's lasted me this long, so for a person who doesn't do a lot of work/entertainment/etc. online, I would highly recommend this laptop.

i've had this laptop for a little over 2 years now. now on a search for a new one since my hard drive just crashed. lesson learned to back up more often :/ i've brought this to school many times, it is pretty heavy at over 6 lbs. i really don't know too much about laptops. my dad basically just told me to get this one. i like that it had a lot of USBs. it seemed sturdy enough to bring places. the touch pad wore out probably around a year and a half. it ended up being pretty slow towards the end. i don't think i would buy a fujitsu again. i do think the sturdyness is good though. i have a 20 month old and a dog, there have been plenty of times my 20 month old has pounded on my laptop. probably resulting in the hard drive crash... over all i would say its okay.

Love this laptop! It's great looking, feels sturdy, and it runs very quiet. The display is beautiful colors are bright and true to life. I even like the touchpad, which is a first for me. For me, it's just responsive enough without being too sensitive. I have not noticed any issues with it getting hot, but I have only had it for 3 days now.

The backlit keyboard feels great very easy to type on, and it's very helpful when working in a not so brightly lit room. The 2nd generation Core i7 processor is really fast. All my programs and applications are ready to use within a minute or so after I turn on the computer.

I had one minor issue after I finished with all the Windows updates (there were about 50 of them). Every time I shut down the computer, it would restart instead of shutting down. It was getting frustrating, so I did some research online. Some suggested that it was a "hardware issue", but one person suggested that it could be that the BIOS needed to be updated. I went to the Dell website, and there was a BIOS update there, along with several driver updates. I downloaded all the updates, and the restarting problem was gone. It's been smooth sailing ever since.

Aanother plus for me, I originally ordered this model (but without the blueray player) from BB because I liked their financing of 18 months with no interest. I ordered online, because it is not an item they carry in the store. Anyway, the item stayed in process for several days after the estimated arrival date with no progress. As I got more and more impatient, I decided to see if Amazon carried that model, or a similar one. Bottom line is, Amazon offers 24-month financing (even better!). Even though the Amazon price was about $100.00 more than the other store, I only wound up paying $20.00 more for an upgraded model, even though I used 1-day shipping, because Amazon does not charge the sales tax sweet!!

This computer is big, gorgeous, fast, doesn't get hot and the fan isn't noisy. The lighted keyboard is wonderful! I haven't bought a computer in a few years and I didn't even realize that was available.

if you're purchasing this laptop because you think it has 3-D will find yourself disappointed. I purchased this laptop after reading that this laptop had 3-D capabilities. I looked it up online and also saw reviews from other people saying 3-D works great. The person who said that as I now know was not telling the truth. While this laptop may have good features there are better laptops with better features for the same price. The catch of this laptop to me was supposed to be 3D abilities. In the description it stated that it has 3-D capabilities. Upon receiving it I saw a button program that said enable 3-D in the control panel that says 3-D management or setting. I thought great maybe I'm misunderstanding some things that it might've been a bit more difficult for me to set up 3D and I'm not understand what's going on. By the way I purchased the nvidia 3-D wireless glasses the thought maybe just maybe I didn't know what I was doing. My brother suggested that since the laptop that I bought from Amazon that it might still have the Dell warrantee and therefore I called Dell to set up my 3-D. I did so I waited a day and called Dell to help me set up my 3-D.

To My Shock!!! Dell representatives personally told me this computer does not have 3-D. I of course immediately called Amazon. Long story short the word capabilities is deceptive. This laptop can have 3-D if it had the right processor and the right screen which it does not. It may be possible to connect it to a 3-D TV and have 3-D but that's not what I bought it for. The nice people at Amazon quickly understood my problem and immediately issued me a refund following the return of the item. Do not purchase this laptop if you want it to have 3-D already on screen. If you had any doubt to what I'm saying simply called Dell give them the model of this computer and hear it straight from them this computer does not come up equip with the ability to support 3-D as it is now.
