I have had this for a year now and I haven't had any problems. Works great and is still fast. Every game I have played on this has ran smoothly. The only disapointment is the audio bar. I had high hopes for the sound. Not good for listening to music.

I bought this laptop about a month ago and I love it. It's really fast and has lot's of memory. What really attracted me to this computer was the Beats Audio, its great for music and movies. the blue Ray player is unbelievable and movies have never looked better. The laptop also has a finger print which is great for saving passwords and keeping unwanted people away. When I first started looking for laptops i really wanted a Mac, but the price was too high. This HP laptop has it all and there are many features that are better than the Mac laptops for half the price. Overall I'm very happy with my choice and will be an HP buyer for life.

This laptop is great. Before purchasing this laptop i had read many many reviews and one of the problems most people had was that the laptop got really hot during use. I live in Jamaica and in summer it can get unbearably hot, even indoors. I find that the laptop doesn't get as hot as i expected it to and the exhaust fan at the side works like a charm. It dispels heat absolutely wonderfully. If you keep your hand just by the exhaust vent for 5 seconds, the air coming out WILL burn you. That's a good sign that the heat is actually leaving the laptop.

Another complaint was that the fingerprint reader doesn't work. Well......mine works perfectly and you don't have to pass your print over it slowly. To test the security of it I tried passing my finger over it in the opposite direction (bottom up) from what i used to set up the simple pass (top down)and it did not open. As soon as i passed my finger from top down....it opened. I also tried different finger prints to load different websites and that also worked like a charm.

I have absolutely no complaints about this computer, none whatsoever.

This is hands down the best macbook pro ever released. I had the 15 inch version from last year, which I loved, but it was stolen. I then decided to go down to the 13 inch version to save a little money. The 2012 13 version was great but the graphics capabilities paled in comparison to the 15. Also, Apple didn't include enough storage in the baseline model (128gb), which at the time was 1499. I highly recommend that anyone looking to buy a new Retina pro upgrade to the midline version inside of the 1299 one because the extra ram and storage make all the difference. I haven't yet had the opportunity to test the graphics it yet with any games, but I can say it streams 4K video flawlessly.

In response to everyone's comments, having had both the old version and the new version, I am getting at least 40% more battery time on the new version updated to Mavericks, and probably closer to 60% more. For example, my battery had 40% remaining after at least 7 hours of document editing and three days stand by time. It's hard to say how much is due to new software versus new hardware, but I was really impressed. As far as screen resolution, you can use a third party app to show the display in native resolution, but I don't because then all the icons and text appear too small. I'm not a gamer, so don't have any games I can test it out with, but if anyone can recommend a free graphics test, I will happy test it out and post my findings. I did see on 9to5mac that they were claiming a 50% improvement in FPS.

I got this laptop as a replacement for my dying MacBook, and have had no hardware problems as of yet. I installed 16GB of RAM I bought from Crucial (i.e. not from Lenovo). I currently run Mint 13 with MATE (which runs like a charm). Hence, I cannot say much with regards to how well the Lenovo distribution of Windows will run. Nowadays, the only time I use Windows is running MS Office inside of VirtualBox. I give it one 2.6GhZ CPU and 2GB of RAM, and it runs fine. Albeit, the limit of my Windows usage is Chrome and MSO, so I wouldn't know about heavy computing in Windows.

Lenovo, unlike any other manufacturer, puts function before form. Here are some specific things I admire about it:

1. It is the only non-Apple laptop I have found that has a keyboard that is pleasant to type on.

2. It has the lost and forgotten mouse thingy in the middle of the keyboard (don't know the technical term for it).

3. The trackpad is flush with the rest of the top plate, making it much easier to clean.

4. Unlike MacBooks, the edges are rounded, so you don't get sores on your forearm after extended usage.

5. The CD drive is a tray instead of a slot.

6. Unlike MacBooks, extended usage of the laptop on top of lap does not result in third-degree burns.

Mine came with Lenovo's own flavor of Win7 Professional 64-bit. I used it for maybe half an hour before I installed Mint, but I can say this:

1. If you want Windows 7 Professional, buy it seperately, and upgrade it yourself. Lenovo's version comes with a good bit of unwanted trial software. This is true of any brand, so don't let it turn you off Lenovo.

2. If you want upgraded RAM, buy it separately, and install it yourself. It isn't that hard, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying it from Lenovo.

3. Don't get the fingerprint reader. If you don't have a choice with regards to getting a fingerprint reader, make sure to disable it in the BIOS. Fingerprints may seem more secure than passwords, but they aren't. Fingerprint readers can be spoofed easily. Using a fingerprint reader instead of a password is like using a password that's literally written on your computer.

If you want any given upgrade, if possible, buy it separately and install it yourself. It will save you a lot of time and money.

Things that I don't like (there aren't many):

1. The physical switch to unlock the monitor seems somewhat flimsy. I anticipate that it will be the first thing to break.

2. The physical monitor is somewhat flexible.

3. It seemed a little heavy at first, but you get used to it. What is one to expect with a 15" laptop? It is certainly lighter than a 15" MacBook.

I own three of the latest tablets/laptops and this is by far the best of the bunch in terms of balancing power, weight, and usability. The other two laptops I own are a Microsoft Surface Pro (too dinky and unstable) and a core-i7 Dell w/ a maxed out graphics card (too big and heavy).

Before I begin the technical part of my review, let me say how I use my computers. As an information systems & digital media professor I use my computers for basic tasks like writing papers, lecturing, and presentations. With it's 15.6 inch touchscreen, it's perfect for those. However, as part of my research and teaching, I also use my computers for programming, 3D modeling, animation, visual effects, digital inking, and video production.

My computers need to be powerful enough to not only run Microsoft Office, but Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Premier, as well as Autodesk Maya, and the Visual Studio programming environment.

Rather than just list features I'll describe why I feel the ASUS is better than my other computers.

Why the Asus is better than my Surface Pro: Both the Surface Pro and the Asus S550CA have core-i5 processors running at the same speed. The Surface Pro has better screen resolution (1920x1080 vs 1366x768). HOWEVER, the Surface packs 1080p into an 11 inch screen, which is too small to use especially in desktop mode where it's hard to touch the tiny icons. I find the ASUS's 1366x768 *perfect* for selecting icons in desktop mode. Of course the Surface Pro is more portable, but you pay for that portability. It only has a single USB 2.0 port, whereas the ASUS has 2 USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port. The ASUS also has a VGA port, which is still the standard when you're hooking up to projectors. If you want to hook up to a VGA projector on the Surface, you need to buy a $40 adapter. So to summarize, the ASUS is just as powerful, easier to use in terms of the touchscreen, and has better connectivity.

Why the ASUS is better than my maxed out Dell: the Dell's too heavy and gets too hot. Yes, when I need speed for my apps and when I want to play games I use my Dell with it's quad-i7 and discrete graphics card. But the Asus is fast enough for all the applications I mentioned and I only notice the lack of power when I render videos & animations--not while I'm creating them.

Anyway, I don't want this review to get too long. I want to end by saying that I compared the features of my Asus to other ultrabooks at the same price point like the Acers, HPs, and Lenovos, and what I found, to my surprise, was that these other ultrabooks were missing the DVD writer and the VGA port that my Asus had. You may not need these features, but they're important for what I do.

Bottom line: Highly Recommended!

I have owned an Asus laptop previously (a 2007 model) and used several HP laptops in the recent past. I will be basing my review on my experiences with these and the Asus S550C.

The Asus S550C looks beautiful with it's aluminum finish and is light weight. the screen is very nice and bright and colours are correct with good contrast. The touch screen is very nice and responsive. I feel the touch screen is an excellent feature to have if you are running windows 8, as the apps work beautifully with that and closing an app is easily done using the touch screen. (in case you are not familiar with win 8 apps; they do not have a close button like the windows programs, and always run fullscreen. to close an app you have to left click at the top of the screen and drag the curser to the bottom of the screen. this is not easy if you use the touchpad only.) Plus this being a laptop, you don't have to hold the screen up with one hand.

The laptop is very very fast, 10 second bootup from shutdown, and 2 second wakeup from sleep. Core i5 is very powerful. 6GB RAM is more than adequate. the sound is good and loud. (Some HP have ALTEC LANSING speakers that do a better job though.). And has one USB 3 port, HDMI out port, which are all very useful.

But...

it is not without drawbacks either. The screen has a gloss finish and is reflective (not a major issue though). If you touch the Alumunium cover with oily hands, it will get print marks and these are really hard to remove. The camera is crap compared to HP. (this is just like the one I had in my 2007 model with poor low light performance and bad in backlit conditions.) the DVD drive open button need to be pressed quite hard to open it. The touch pad is slightly mal-aligned (probably in my copy only) and the SD card slot is under the power/charging light set and you have to tilt the laptop up to see it. And to see the SD icon you need to turn the laptop upside down (Initially I thought this was a defect in the cover until I realized it's the SD slot. the SD slot is not marked in the manual either!!!!). There is only one jack for headphone and mic. So if you have an old headset with one jack for speakers and one for the mic, you need to choose which is more important to you , or buy a new headset. The keyboard is not good. the feel of key-press is not good and sometimes the key gets half pressed and you miss a letter. the HP laptops had better tactile feedback and the keys feel more precise. I think even my old ASUS had better keys.

If you can live with these limitations this laptop is a very good buy for you. It would be best for you to try out a few laptops at your local store before deciding on one. And do compare the keyboards before buying as it may be a game changer if you do a lot of typing.

I purchased this s550 vivobook from Costco a few weeks ago. I got it from Costco because the assurance if I do not like the item, I can return it (up to 90 days, was it?).

I had an HP DV6 6119wm before I Got this laptop. I purchased the HP a year ago and was so upset with the quality and lack of HP backing their own product, I actually just decided to sell it and get a new one.

Things certainly changed since a year ago. Most of the laptops now are touch screen and with windows 8, which when I was at the store I had to spend about 20 minutes just trying to get used to how to navigate windows 8. The touch screen was nice and it had 10-key which I need. It's fast enough and light with a sleek design that is not cheap looking like some laptops in this price range are.

The good:

Slim, light and ample amount of ports including VGA

Has optical drive and card reader

10-key

SSD makes for SUPER fast resuming.

Quiet! this laptop is very quiet and that is very nice to have.

The bad:

The 10 key is nearly useless because the arrow keys actually take up space within the 10-key's real estate. I REALLY hate this. The ZERO key should be horizontal and twice the size, the shift/ctrl keyes should be made smaller and the arrow keys should take up the rest of that extra space to make this a PERFECT 10 for me, but since these design mistakes are there it's just shy of that for me.

The ugly:

Battery life is so-so, but then when you see how big the battery is you'll know why. I don't need to be mobile and i'm almost always near an outlet but it would be nice. Perhaps I could play with the settings to increase this?

The touchpad is too far to the left. It would be nice if the divider of left/right click was raised because unless I look at the pad, I often times are clicking to far to the right and end up right clicking, problems I haven't had with other laptops.

The 6GB of memory is the max this line can take and that is terrible. My last year's HP DV6 I maxed out to 16gb. 6GB seems oftly small of a limitation for new hardware.

In short, this laptop is a good buy for the price. You get a lot of features and I don't feel like i'm missing much.

Honest reviews on ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Okay, already own hmmm over 8 notebooks ranging on the small side: Viliv N5, Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 10.1" 64GB Win 8 Pro Tablet (367927U), Alienware 10 inch notebok and Apple MacBook Air MD760LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION). On the mid size Samsung Series 9 NP900X3E-A02US 13.3-Inch Full HD 1080p Premium Ultrabook and Apple MacBook Pro MD101LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION) and on the large size Alienware M17x R4 AM17xR4-8424BK 17.3-Inch Laptop (Stealth Black with Soft Touch Finish),Sony VAIO Tap All-in-One Touchscreen SVJ20217CXW 20-Inch Desktop (White) and 17 inch Macbook Pro.

However, for appointments where I need to meet with clients and do anything other than book and appointment or take notes (where the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 10.1" 64GB Win 8 Pro Tablet (367927U) is used).

The size of the Asus Vivobook is a little larger than your standard 15 inch notebook (15 x 10.5 verse 14 x 9.5 for my Samsung Series 9 NP900X3E-A02US 13.3-Inch Full HD 1080p Premium Ultrabook) but not to big for most notebook bags (but perhaps check the size specs).

I would suggest the ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) instead of the ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black). Only differance is that the ASUS VivoBook S550CA-DS51T 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) has a CD/DVD drive.

As far a boot speed, good. Not the quickest but not the slowest but lets remember SSD and HDD configuration instead of straight SDD drives.

Keyboard layout is slightly smaller than normal but I am a 6'3, 210 lb male with large fingers and no major problem takes a bit to get used to to using the numerical keypad and the numerical keypad keys are slight smaller and closer together than normal.

Love the number of USB ports, hate notebooks with only two ports (Apple take note)!

So the Pro's and Con's:

Pro's:

-Fast boot time from SSD

-Good Memory size

-Numerical keypad (for anyone in the numbers business this is key)

-Bright clear screen

-Touchscreen have to keep reminding myself that I can touch the screen)!

-Trackpad, actually not bad love the vertical line on the bottom to let me know left and right sides very smart!

Con's:

-Slightly smaller than normal keyboard

-Screen resolution would love to see higher resolution but understand that limits with touchscreens

-Would love full SSD version.

-Would love to see higher memory configurations.

Basically, I keep on the leading edge of technology and when it came to looking for a slim notebook that includes everything (touchscreen, numerical keypad, SSD, slim size), this notebook was the closest on the market.

Hopes this help :)

I wanted to say that as someone who has owned multiple laptops in the past, none of them can beat this one.

I was very hesitant to buy this laptop because of bad reviews on windows 8 but since I am the type of person who likes to see, test and review for herself I thought "Hey, why not give it a try myself and if I don't like it...well what can be worse than my last laptop dying on me after only a year of use, right ?"

Pros and cons:

At first I was very surprised at the finish and body of the product, it seems to be made of aluminium, this stuff seems resistant to random falls or hits, it gives the impression that it can withstand any blow (I wouldn't try to drop it on purpose though...just for the sake of finding out if it can lol).

Aesthetically, the aluminium finish makes this laptop look very posh, I feel like I own a Lamborghini in the form of a laptop. The design is just plain gorgeous.

The thing is, for an ultrabook I was expecting something lighter than a regular laptop but this laptop is heavy, no joke ! Compared to my previous laptops, this is the heaviest laptop I have owned (It's probably because of the aluminium finish).

The other thing that pleasantly surprised me is the size of the laptop screen and bottom part, is this laptop really a 15.6 inch laptop ? Nope, it's slightly bigger than this, I compared it to my old vaio 15.6 inch laptop and the asus is a lot bigger, the screen is wider, and the quality of the screen better.

The touch-screen is so responsive and amazing, My little sister owned a lenovo touch screen laptop and because the touch wasn' very responsive I was afraid to buy a touch screen laptop but I was very pleased with the asus touch screen, I barely use the mouse now. It makes accomplishing tasks so much easier.

I'm not too fond of the keyboard though on my old laptops I just had to press the keys lightly for them to respond, with this keyboard you have to somehow apply full pressure for the keys to respond, it's annoying for people like me who type quite fast because of that I like to use the on-screen keyboard instead.

The speakers...when I first opened my laptop, I did not pay attention to the speakers, I like to listen to music while drawing and working, my last laptop had poor speakers not to say the least, so when I decided to put some music I was not expecting the next thing that happened. The music blasted out of the speakers so loud and clear that my little sister and I were taken aback, shocked and panicked because my mum was asleep next door and you could hear the music from miles and miles...ok, not that far but you get the point.

The integrated camera is also good for a webcam, the quality is better than most laptops' webcams I have used so far.

Overall, only positive things to say about this ultrabook. Asus has done great on this one.

This Dell model is easy to boot up and very fast. Doesn't have a lot of games loaded but offers many Free apps to download. No Microsoft office loaded so I downloaded Apache Open Office FREE from Amazon.

It's a bit noisy when it's charging but it I'll swap that for a slow computer any day!

Kept waiting for a good deal on a Dell with Windows 7 but couldn't wait forever. Amazon had this Dell $150 off so it was time to order. Windows 8 isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The tutorial helps make sense of the screens and icons. Once you figure out that the dial on a wireless mouse scrolls the screen horizontally it's easy to navigate!

I purchased mine from Costco, not from Amazon, but would like to share what I know about this unit. This laptop, at its configuration, is a good price.

The most significant good things about it are:

(1) it runs pretty well, and does not generate too much heat. The bottom of the unit is only lukewarm after 24 hours of use (one reason being the hard drive is running at only 5400 RPM, not at 7200);

(2) it has wired, wireless, and a blue-tooth connections, and an SD memory card reader (good for trasnferring images from cameras);

(3) upgrade of memory is very easy, as both memory slots are easily accessible at the bottom (side by side with the laptop hard drive).

The bad thing is:

You cannot install Windows 7 side by side with Windows 8, or even over it, even after you shrink the size of the C: drive to create a new partition. The hard drive has two hidden partitions before the C: drive (So C: drive is actually the 3rd partition). These hidden partitions are storage area for system restore files, and are valuable if you have to restore or recover the system. But their presence makes attempts to install Windows 7 impossible, until I manually removed all partitions and recreated C: on the first partition. (Then I was able to install Windows 7, and am running Windows 7 64 bit without any issues.)

I am not saying that Windows 8 is bad. I just wish to use Windows 7 for now.

Now, another good thing is with Dell tech support:

First, you can find all necessary drivers for Windows 7 (and Windows 8, of course) on their website: support.dell.com;

Second, Dell support is usually very good and very quick. As my system came initially with "Rapid Response Depot", I gave them a call Tuesday (6-25-2013) afternoon at 3, telling them (yes, at India) that I had lost Windows 8 and the backup drives in the process of installing Windows 7. In half an hour, they got the dispatch arrangement ready, and overnight I received the replacement package (to restore Windows 8) via FedEx. Next, I'll try to see if I can install Windows 8 on a different partition, and run dual-boot (W7 and W8) on this laptop. Usually you can install a newer OS (W8) side by side with an existing, older OS (W7) and get a dual boot. Will update when that task is done. So, for now, I am happy with both the unit, and Dell support.

Update 1 (after receiving the 1st replacement package from Dell): It was an 8GB system recovery USB key. On running it, it successfully restored my hard drive to the factory setting: with hidden EFI drive (this time only one drive) and with the rest of the hard drive as C:. It gave me back the Windows 8 system that I had lost, but it erased, without warning, the Windows 7 partition that I had painstakingly installed. So, it did the job of system recovery (to factory setting), but sent me back to square one. I called again today (7-1-2013), explaining what I need is the stand-alone Windows 8 media, by which I can specify where I want to install Windows 8 (on a different partition, so I can have dual boot). Will update again when the 2nd replacement media arrives. Calling and getting to a live Dell tech support (yes, they are in India. I got confirmation two times) took about 5 minutes. Getting the new dispatch order done took another half an hour.

Update 2 (after receiving replacement Windows 8 installation DVD): The replacement package came via FedEx standard overnight, to my pleasant surprise. Installation of Windows 8 onto a separate partition was easy. Update of drivers took some time, but was easy too. I now have dual-boot. On booting up, the screen gives me the option of either booting into Windows 8, or booting into Windows 7. I booted into each OS several times, and both OS are running well, without any issues. End of the story, a happy one.

The only good thing I can say about this system is it has a nice keyboard.

Turned it on for the first time and it sounded like a jet taking off the fan(s) were so loud.

The fans were constantly running & the keyboard was getting quite warm.

Day 2 it gave up the ghost. Network card fried. No ethernet, no WiFi. I suspect that the unit over heated and fried the network card.

Amazon sent two UPS pickups, both with different tracking numbers. It did get picked up by the first guy who got there. The second guy kept trying for 3 days to do his pickup. Amazon did credit my credit card with in a couple of days to their credit.

I've had a Dell laptop before that is still going strong after 7 years. This one was just poor design with the internals from the word go.

I now have a similar system made by Toshiba with AMD dual core CPUs instead of the Intel Quad core CPU the Dell unit had. The Toshiba was $75 cheaper at Walmart. The system is just as fast, the fan hardly runs at all and it is whisper quiet.

I would definitely not recommend a Dell product, this comes from some one who is retired after 30 years in the IT field doing just about everything.

I got this computer to replace my PC and I'm glad I chose this particular one.

This notebook comes with Windows Vista Home Premium. I wasn't too sure about having Vista, but after using it I do like it. I use this notebook at home and the PC I use at work has XP. I like Vista better than XP. The biggest problem I had with Vista is that I could no longer use my very old inkjet printer. I checked the printer manufacturer's website for a Vista driver and it was not providing a driver for that printer. I can print from Vista with my somewhat newer laser printer. I would suggest that before buying any computer with Vista, it would be wise to be sure your printer will run with Vista.

The speed of this notebook is excellent. My husband decided to double the RAM and it is now beyond excellent.

This computer is great. I need to explore more of it to find out everything it can do, but it has more than met my needs so far. I would highly recommend this computer.

In response to another review, I have not had ANY of the problems mentioned. In fact, when we replaced computers at work a few months ago, I insisted on a Toshiba notebook for me (however it wasn't this particular model). I do not hesitate to recommend Toshiba.

This Notebook is super fast with its Pentium Dual-Core Processor running at 1.73ghz. It also has a superfast integrated graphics card with 8-256mb dynamic memory and enough speed to run most games.

The internal wireless card quickly connects to the network and is very fast.

I'm really glad I bought this notebook computer.

I bought this Toshiba about a year ago and it is the best laptop I have had. After you have used it for a while you will know what I'm talking about. The speed for the amount of memory amazed me. My roommate has a laptop with 3GB Ram and it is no faster. She was upset because she paid more and has better stats but my laptop is better. Her DVD drive also went out after 6 months of use. This Toshiba is quality. I have never had a problem with it and even though its a little older it runs like new. Decent screen display for a older computer but still not what you will get on a new $800 dollar laptop. Sound quality is decent and gets pretty loud. It just feels sturdy when you use it. It stays much cooler than most laptops under heavy use as well which may have a lot to do with its longevity. I think for the money you couldn't ask for more. The computer stopped working a couple of weeks after I received it. I already sent a complaint to you and supposedly you are working on it.

It is, according to a computer technician who checked it, a severe electrical problem, probably due to an accident. The computer has rough marks and a glued track on the bottom!!!

I hope you would be able to take care of the problem. Thanks.

Best wishes,

Jose L. Martin, M. D.

I got my Toshiba satellite A135 S4527 in April 2007, its worked great for me almost 3 years now. No problems at all to report, except that Vista sucks compared to XP. But, that isn't Toshiba's fault and I could always buy XP to replace it. The laptop was a good deal at the time, I paid $599 I think and have no regrets about it. One of my better purchases, I might stick to Toshiba since I had a good experience with this one. A friend of mine has a really high-end Toshiba and its also 3 years old, and very nice, lots of extra stuff on it.

this is a very good computer for the price, it certainly has all the bells and whistles and speed, but it has it's less then perfect features as well. the keyboard for oneit seems cheap and frail as if the keys may fly off any time. and the roller/mouse pad is hidden making it a bit difficult to use, it is also centered on pc instead of offset to the left as many laptops position their pads. lastly the right and left keys are hard to press, instead of a mere flick on them you must give a firm, centered push to activate them.

one last thing, this laptop is a 64 bit system, running windows 7, so before you use it. dont forget to make recovery discs (5), a windows repair disc (1), and (7) system image backup discs. none of these will help if the keys fall off but will restore the programs to as new in the event of failure from virus, trojans or whatever.

I've been using this computer for almost 2 years without issue (other than an itunes Win 7 conflict) and I wouldn't hesitate to by this or any other HP product again. Granted, all I use it for is browsing the "computer interweb" and watching downloaded movies, but, for the money, this is a great laptop. The speakers aren't bad either compared to my previous Toshiba laptop.

i have this model laptop and i've had for about 6 months. the battery DOES NOT last 4-4.5 hours, you have to replace it with an 8 cell battery. as for performance though, it's amazing. i can game and run 13 other programs with the gaming client that draws 3/4 of the processor attention. it DOES have a recovery partition in of which you immediately lose 20 gigs right there unless you create the recovery discs. overall, the only things i dislike is that i had to buy an 8 cell battery and the fact that it does get hot after gaming.

I have the G62-457dx which now seems to be a limited edition model, because it is no longer available through Amazon or any other well-known sites. HP is probably the only company who still has my model available for purchase. Anyway, I don't see how anyone can really go wrong with a machine that is this powerful. Once again, I am still very impressed with the number of different tasks that I can run all at one time without slowing down, overheating, crashing etc. Many complain about the keyboard, but the only problem that I have with it is the number keys. I can run up to 4 or more downloads and 8 browser tabs and other services and applications without problems, and this is incredible. 4GB RAM, incredible. The dual core processor gives maximum performance speed and quality. It even works as a great gaming machine. Not the best, but I can run some modern day video games with graphics that rival PS3 and Xbox without much problems. However, there's a few games that get a little sluggish but are still very playable without causing interference. This strongly determines what kind of processor, video card, RAM capacity and other features that you have enabled. Also, if you want a perfect gaming machine it would be better and more affordable to just buy a console. As for my computer, I can run any and every task needed and I'm satisfied with that. Not much bloatware installed, built in factory reset option, Lightscribe drive, web cam, SD card slot, HDMI port, CD/DVD burner, 3USB ports, scratch resistant surface and so much more. It runs like a champion. Once again, I don't see how anyone could not be satisfied with having a computer that performs this good. Great for students, business owners and home users who need to multitask everyday. I've had my computer for a couple of months now, and there's been no major problems or issues with it yet. Even when I overwork this computer, the CPU usage barely ever reaches 100%; and if it does it's only for a couple of seconds. And the RAM usage barely ever goes over 50% usage but can be reduced by an optimization program. This computer has not failed me yet, and I'm not expecting it to. This is truly one of the best computers on the market right now, and it will be worth every dollar that you pay for it. Personally, I'd advise ordering a G Series HP laptop from Best Buy over Amazon if you'd wish to save about $100-$150. The only real difference between this computer and mine is the brand of processor, and both have about the same capabilities.

To those who posted before me:

You keep saying that the keys are cheap or not correctly placed, how? It's a standard QWERTY, and my typing is not affected at all by a QWERTY keyboard. As far as keys flying off, that's a total lie. If that's happening to your computer, then I don't know where you purchased it from or how many flights of stairs you dropped it down. Okay, did you buy your computer for the keys or for what it could really do? The keys are just fine. Also, the touchpad being in the center happens to be just right for people who type the correct way ASDF-JKL;. It's there between your thumbs and conveniently out of your way when you're typing, so I'm absolutely fine with it being centered. Even in the event that it did interfere with your typing, you have the touchpad lock sensor in the upper left corner of the touchpad that can be activated by a double click. Unless you have gigantic hands, I don't see how the placement of the touchpad can even be considered a legitimate complaint. Also, if it bothers you that bad you shouldn't have paid for it. I'm just saying that if you're gonna post a review, at least put some truth into it and have proper knowledge of computers. Always remember that a computer will react to what you choose to do with it. If you guys have been downloading and installing stuff that you shouldn't have, hey, you know? That's your problem.

This thing is a powerhouse. Easily cranking out between 2.5 and 3.0 GHz of processing speed. Plays games smoothly and with great buffering rates in high performance. And also great for simple things like watching videos

I love this laptop, absolutely love it to death. Great for low-end gaming and performance if you're into that stuff. I got this on sale for around $450, so I thought, what they heck let's give it a try.

Pros:

-Plenty of RAM

-Fast

-Somewhat light

-USB 3.0

-Nice Screen size

-Great keyboard

Cons:

-Only 2 USB 2.0 ports and 1 USB 3.0 (But no worries you can buy a hub)

-Short battery life for travel use. It only has around 4 hours of simple use and around 2 for performance

-Poor cooling performance

-Power brick gets really hot

**Update**

After a while now its been about a year since I've had this, and I am very displeased with this laptop. It seems to be getting slower everyday and the sound quality through my headset and microphone have went down too, and I know for sure that it isn't either of them as I have bought brand new ones recently. The CPU gets unusually hot for some reason and the boot time every week or so has gottten longer by a few seconds. I've tried deleting some of my files but everything is too slow. As soon as I get the money I'm getting a better PC and throwing this heap of junk away.

beautiful design. i especially like the color and cool aluminum finish. keyboard layout is nice and soft keys. only down side is the cursor does not respond as quickly on screen and can be a bit annoying, but honestly overall its a great upgrade from my last laptop

I love this computer so far. I needed something that could travel with me for my new job that would keep up & so far, this laptop has been wonderful. The only draw back so far is that occassionally the wifi will disconnect for no reason...it always starts right back up but it is annoying.

I been owning this laptop for a month now and I got to say for the price you can't really get more bang for your buck. The firewire/USB Hybrid port is really cool because you get a firewire port and don't lose a USB port.

This is a list of all the ports.

4 USB (2 normal usb port 1 USP powered port and the firewire/usb Hybrid)

1 SD card slot.

1 VGA output

1 HDMI output

1 PCI ExpressCard slot a rarity these days but that mean USB 3.0 is just one easy upgrade away.

1 Gigabit Ethernet

1 DVD/CD Burner tray look flimsy but who use CD or DVD anymore anyway?

This version of the Edge 15 come with 2GB of DDR3 Ram but you can push it to 8GB with two of these babies! 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) 1066MHz DDR31066/PC38500 DDR3 SDRAM SoDIMM KTL-TP1066/4G

Come with Windows 7 whatever version I played with 7 for about twenty minutes than I got bored and partitioned the drive and installed Ubuntu Maverick for real work. In Linux Everything worked right out of the box Wi-Fi, HDMI, Compiz, the Webcam you name it this baby does it! This is by far the easiest Linux experience I ever had with both a laptop and desktop.

Pros Everything

Cons nothing worse than the DVD flimsiness.

Amazing laptop, I have had this for a long time with very few issues. Most issues were from viruses and what not and that does not speak on the craftsmanship of the product. I can not speak for the customer service because I have not had to call them and that does speak for the craftsmanship of the product. Best computer I have ever owned, will buy from this company in the future.

I purchased this laptop back when it came out in 2009. What convinced me at the time was that it came with an Nvidia Geforece 9600M video card, not the best in its class but certainly much better than many of the integrated chips offered on laptops of comparable price. The laptop is extremely sturdy and well built. I've been throwing it in my backpack for 3 years and its still intact. At the time, it offered awesome performance for the price.

only complaints.. Runs a little hot, its a bit heavy and the clicker on the pad is a a bit stiff and noisy. Otherwise, it was a a great buy. I just upgraded to an Alienware m14x, but I deffinitely plan to keep this one as a backup. This thing is a tank.

I have the x83v model and have had it for the better part of 5 years now. It's lasted through everything and is still firing on all cylinders. My webcam did recently stop working but that's more than understandable after all this thing has been through. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because if used for periods longer than an hour of 2 it gets excessively hot and makes it uncomfortable to type let alone put it on your lap. A great laptop for the price though and the model here comes with a 9600 as opposed to the 9300 gfx card i have.

Honest reviews on Asus X83VB-X1 Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0GHz 4GB 250GB DVD±RW DL 14.1"

I got this laptop a year ago. I received it used from my brother, and have had no issues on it in the past year. I walk around with my laptop in arm a lot, and it has survived a few falls to the carpet. Although it's a bit bulky compared to some of the newer laptops available, it's very sturdy and I don't find its size a problem.

As far as cons to this product, they are few and not very important to me. The laptop does get pretty hot if you use it a lot (I'm on it for most of my waking hours of the day), but this is forgiveable, especially if you have one of those lap-desks for putting a laptop on. The mouse clicker is a bit noisy, but I have a separate mouse I use so this doesn't bother me at all.

Overall, a great laptop. I would easily reccommend this to anyone. ^^

I waited in line at Black Friday for 2 hours for the laptop and the wait was worth it! This is my 1st laptop and it is amazing for the price! Setup was a breeze and within 30 minutes of boot up, I was already using it. Boot up time is lightning fast only taking 12 seconds! Windows 8 takes some time to get used to, but there is a guide with the laptop that explains the process to you. Battery time is decent lasting 5 to 6 hours of heavy use or up to 3 days in standby time. Wi-Fi works great with this laptop and the internet is lightning fast! You can also switch from a Windows 8 to a Windows 7 mode by clicking this application called Desktop. I haven't had a single problem with this laptop in the 2 weeks I have had so you can tell that is a quality machine. Great laptop for only $179, and is highly recommended that you get the 2 year warranty from Walmart for only $19. The laptop itself comes with a 1 year warranty and with the warranty from Walmart, it will bump it to a 3 year combined warranty.

Also, if you wish to upgrade the RAM, please be aware that there is only one DIMM slot for the RAM, and the RAM can only be upgraded to 8 GBS of ram. Happy laptop hunting and have a nice day!

P.S. This particular laptop has a turbo-boosting technology that will bump the processor to clock at 1.20 GHz and above, when performing certain tasks such as gaming. This is extremely useful when performing many tasks at once.

Update: I have been using this laptop for about 2 months, and still working like a champ! There have been zero problems with this laptop, except the annoying notifications for Windows updates, which just ask you to re-boot your laptop to start the update. Other than that, this laptop has been working great. I highly suggest that the upgrade the ram to 8 GBS, as this will pay off in the long run. Have a nice day.

I bought this computer on black friday for $179 and 9 months later it is still going strong. I have had really no issues with it at all. I put this computer through hell and back and it is still working great. My last computer was an Acer and I paid $300 for it and i had to replace the screen 3 times because it kept cracking, but with this compaq, i am known to drop laptops a lot and i have dropped this one several times and the screen has never cracked. The speed is okay, and the memory is okay but i wasen't expecting greatness when i paid for it. So i highly recommend this computer to anyone.

I upgraded my wife's laptop and in fact it only has one memory slot. Typically stores will not carry the single 8GB ram chip so I looked and found it at Best Buy. I had it shipped to the store which was free and cost about $40. I have had no problems with this memory upgrade and the computer is very fast and my wife loves it. Overall it was well worth the money and for the people that say that the specifications are lies on the memory slot i agree but on the processor speed they need to understand that it works like intel chips. They also have a boost feature that will automatically overclock the processor depending on your needs. It will not boost it to the 1.3ghz if you are checking your email. Hope this helps.

Honest reviews on HP Compaq Presario cq58-bf9wm 15.6-Inch Laptop (Pacific Blue)

I stood in line on Black Friday to buy the Compaq Presario Cq58-bf9wm for 4 hours. When I got the computer home, I opened it up to add more RAM;1)there was only one dimm slot when there should be 2.2)I upgraded to a 4gb of RAM and it made the computer freeze and constantly reboot.3)The processor speed is suppose to be 1.33GHz and it's only 1.0GHz.

Those are some of the things I noticed and asked my Brother-In-Law to check his out and the exact same things, he even went as far as to say that it is a different mother board as well.

We ordered an this off-lease Dell laptop from Tampa Laptops last week. We received the item sooner than expected in excellent condition. The laptop was actually better than advertised... 80GB hard drive as opposed to a 60GB. Everything was in perfect order, all programs preinstalled as expected. We had ordered this laptop for a friend of ours, but we are so ecstatically happy with it that we have now ordered another one for ourselves as well.

Tampa Laptop's preparation of the product as far as software installs and so forth was absolutely perfect. Within five minutes of turning the unit on, I had everything configured and ready to go and was already linked to my wireless router and cruising the internet. These guys know what they are doing. Until I retired I was a Systems Admin for a large law firm for over 30 years. I know my equipment... these guys are offering a really great product.

Many thanks to Tampa Laptops for this great buying experience!!!

I bought this because I needed a PC that could run Windows XP. It was clean and set up well. Almost as good as brand new for half the cost.

Honest reviews on Dell Latitude D620 Notebook PC (Off Lease)

Purchased this used Dell Latitude D620 Notebook to use as parts to fix a similar laptop I had purchased new. The description was lightly used but the exterior case was scratched up and had various blemishes and nicks over most of the surfaces. In addition, the laptop seemed to work properly but the battery did not hold a charge for more than a few minutes. If I wasn't using this laptop for parts, I would have returned it.
