I purchased this laptop as a replacement for my 5+ year old Dell Inspiron. Having recently had some bad experiences with Dell, I decided to try a Toshiba.

It's a good laptop for someone who isn't a road warrior-both the size and relatively short battery life make it less than ideal for lots of travel. Both of these problems stem from its very large screen (big screens tend to consume a lot of power), which is its biggest selling point. The large screen is great for work and watching films.

On the down side, the built-in speakers provide poor sound quality, which is not a problem if you use head phones.

Another minor drawback is the mousepad, which is positioned in such a way that your wrist is likely to tap it when typing, causing the cursor to jump inappropriately. You can tweak some settings on the mousepad's sensitivity to minimize this effect.

Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7910 17.3-Inch Laptop Black/Grey

Toshiba makes a decent laptop, but if you buy one of their products do not think for a moment that your warranty will be honored! I had an adapter cord (and transformer) that failed, and it has now been over 2 weeks that Toshiba has been "unable" to send me a replacement cord. They claim it is on "back order" with no date in sight as to when the part will be available. Of course (they tell me) I can go into a store and buy a replacement part myself (over $100) but they will not reimburse me for that I will simply have to wait for the back order in order to have it replaced under the warranty provisions. In essence, they are telling me that in all of North America they cannot put their hands on one of their own power cords, even though I could just walk into any store and buy one myself! This, they say, is their "policy" and the policy cannot be changed. In my book, this is not "policy" but rather consumer fraud buy their product, assume that you have a warranty, but when it comes to fulfilling their warranty obligation you're told to wait indefinitely or just go buy the replacement part out of your own pocket. Frankly, I had expected better from a company like Toshiba, and my experience has made me conclude that I should never consider buying another of their products ever!

This is my 6th Toshiba Satellite laptop. Bought first one in 1998 when I was driving a truck. Have never had a problem with customer service with Toshiba as one other person has said. Lost my hard drive somewhere between Chicago and San Antonio, when I got to San Antonio on a Friday afternoon at 3:00.pm they got me in at 4:00.pm and it was fixed and I was ready to go by 6:00.pm The only time I had to wait on a part was in Charlotte, NC on a Friday for a new screen and I was at my sister's house anyway and it was ready to go by 10:00 .am., since it was all under warranty never paid a cent for repairs or parts. I am happy with this laptop because I do like the bigger screen. The one drawback that I can see is the touch pad because it is in an awkward position but you can fix that by buying a mouse and turning the touch pad off. Simple easy solution to a minor problem. The last one cost $3600.00 5 yrs ago and had a lot less on it so the price is reasonable. I would recommend this product for someone who likes a big screen.

I hate this piece of crap computer... I will never buy another Toshiba Satellite again. The last one I had was a Satellite P205D-S7454. It died after one year, due to a product-wide problem in the BIOS causing the computer to "think" it was overheating & shut down. I replaced it with this one... BIG mistake. Now after only 1 year, it too has crashed due to failed memory that I now have to replace. It constantly shuts down on me, or restarts, or freezes. It has become nothing but a glorified paper weight that SOMETIMES allows me maybe an hour's worth of work before shutting down on me again. The SECOND the warranty is up, this stuff starts happening on these computers. I am computer savvy... I know what I am doing, and these computers are a disgrace. I had dead pixels on the screen within 1 month of receiving the pc. The mouse pad is in a really awkward place, causing you to constantly click into different programs & start typing god-knows-where. EXTREMELY frustrating. Oh and the speakers... the horrible, awful speakers... there is hardly any volume, and you can't hear a thing unless you're wearing headphones (and I am 28 years old, with no hearing problems). This thing is also a terrible fingerprint magnet... the display & pc itself look disgusting & require cleaning constantly. I am replacing this PC with a different brand and am never looking back. I would NOT recommend buying this computer, although laptop reviews rarely tend to be useful, since the jerks at big name brand stores NEVER sell anything but brand new models... meaning there are no reviews to be found on them... meaning you are on your own to find out after a year if they are worthless pieces of junk or not, like this one. I hate this computer, I hate Toshiba, and I will never, ever buy from them or recommend them again. I would STRONGLY advise the same for others.

I am a computer science student so I am pretty well versed when it comes to computers. I know my hardware, can write operating systems, and am constantly programming. I began searching for laptops because I needed a more powerful one. I play a few games so I also wanted something able to power through some graphics. This laptop has pretty amazing specs, especially for the price. Windows 8 is pretty intuitive once you get used to it, so don't let that defer you from getting this laptop. The operating system that it comes with is 64bit. The quad core amd and radeon graphics card can crunch through just about anything. Plenty of RAM, plus it is up-gradable to 16gigs if you desire. The hard disk is the only thing that can slow some operations down, but at this time solid state is a little too pricey. I would have loved to have a back-lit keyboard, however for the price and specs I wasn't going to let that be the reason I did not buy this laptop. I researched laptops for weeks and this turned up to be the best; and at a very reasonable price. I would most assuredly recommend this laptop.

I've had the computer for a little less than a week, but am very pleased with it. (See below for how to fix the scroll bar problem if you encounter it.)

The display looks great, and it has all the peripherals you could need (including usb 3.0).

It has a separate numerical keypad, which I find great because it's much easier when doing anything involving typing lots of numbers, and even though some complain that having that addition requires the computer to be too big or the other keys too small, that is not the case. At 15.6" it is still a compact enough size and does not weigh much.

The tile keyboard is great (not back lit if that is a concern for you, but the screen provides enough light to see the keys). The sounds is fine, not expecting anything mind blowing from a laptop.

The quad processor is more than capable of handling what you can throw at it, as well is the 8gb of ram installed. It is a computer built to handle heavy gaming, and if you're not into that, then don't worry at all about it having enough power for you. Oh, and the 1tb hard drive makes sure you won't run out of storage space.

The battery life seems fine so far, somewhere around 4 hours.

I'm a big fan of the brushed aluminum. The computer stays cool to the touch and is well suited to stand up to some abuse.

The biggest problem people will have is getting used to Windows 8 if they haven't used it before. Honestly, I was skeptical, but after a day of tinkering around with the start/tile screen to get it to my liking and figuring out the shortcuts (for instance, hovering your mouse in the lower left corner from the desktop screen gives you settings, search, power, and share options; also right clicking on the live tile screen gives you the option to look at all apps, because if you install a program, that is how you will be able to access it and pin it to your taskbar) I am fine with it. Windows 8 is pretty customizable, and that is a plus.

***The only issue I ran into was that the scroll bar did not work on the mouse pad at first. This turned out to be an easy fix though, and if you are having that problem, hopefully you read this before losing your mind.

*All internet advice says to update or uninstall/reinstall the driver. Won't work. It's not a driver issue. The problem is that the scrolling simply was not enabled.

*Simply show the hidden icons on the desktop task bar, and double click on the Synaptics pointing device icon.

*Go to the Device Settings tab --> click Settings... --> check the Scrolling box (not done yet though, so keep reading) --> the next step is to click Scrolling so that it is higlighted, then click on the settings button (looks like 2 gears) --> check 'Enable Vertical Scrolling' and 'Enable Horizontal Scrolling'.

make sure that you hit okay and apply on every screen, and that's it. Told you it was simple.

That was my only complaint about the computer, and once I fixed it I have absolutely none. It is a great computer from a great brand and you will be very pleased if you get it.

It's all about the A10 Vision powering this thing. Right now, this is AMD's most powerful mobile APU. But with the A10, you need to know what you are getting: a chipset with a lot of graphic power for the price, but one that cannot come close to competing with Intel in computing power.

So, if you want a cheap gaming laptop (meaning integrated and not discrete graphics), an A10-powered laptop is your best choice. You can toss darn near any game that leans more on the GPU and not the CPU at this thing, and it will do just fine. The Intel HD3000 and HD4000 graphics cannot compare. But if you need something that puts a heavy burden on the CPU, you need to look at Intel. I specifically wanted a cheap gaming laptop, and combined with the decent sound and 8GB of memory on this model, I got exactly what I wanted.

So why only three stars? Simple: fit and finish, the devil's in the details. Although the Chiclet keyboard on this laptop is supposed to be better than the even cheaper A6/A8 Toshiba models (which I've owned), it isn't, and it doesn't help that the left shift key on the laptop I got is flaky. I hate the spacing of the two USB 3.0 ports; they're right up where right-handed mouse users are going to be working, so if you've got a big USB stick coming out of thing it's going to get in the way. The A10 runs hotter than the earlier A6's I've owned. I'll even gripe about the button that pops out the DVD tray; it's practically flush with the unit and unresponsive to all but the most enthusiastic presses.

But otherwise: look, I wouldn't have picked this thing up for the retail of $600+ (I'd have soldiered along with my earlier A6 Toshiba, which for $400 was a great bargain), but Amazon knocked it down to a little under $500, so I'm happy with it. If you go with this laptop, know its strengths (best integrated graphics in the market) and weaknesses (pure CPU power).

One final thing: Windows 8 is terrible. Fortunately, Toshiba still has the full complement of Windows 7 drivers on its site, so with an evening's work you can scrub Win8 off the thing and get Windows 7 on there.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite S855D-S5148 15.6-Inch Laptop (Ice Blue Brushed

I see a lot of other reviews here that do a good job of pointing out the pros and cons of this laptop, so I'll try not to duplicate them.

I received the laptop yesterday, and I'm totally thrilled with the features and performance!!

I'm pleasantly surprised by how cool the laptop runs and the feel of the keyboard. It does a fantastic job of venting the heat out the side of the laptop you can sit this comfortably on your lap for hours. The keyboard is soft and responsive very comfortable to type on and even includes a dedicated numeric keypad (which I tend to use frequently). Normally when I use a laptop, I'll plug in a USB keyboard when I need to do some number-crunching. I don't need one on the Toshiba.

At this price, I expected some things to be skimped on. Toshiba really didn't cut any corners, this is a quality laptop. Even the tiniest details, such as having USB ports on both sides of the laptop.

I'm not thrilled with Windows 8, but that's not Toshiba's fault. First thing I did after going through the initial setup was to install Classic Shell, a free application that gives you the look and feel of Windows 7. That takes care of most of the complaints I have with Windows 8, but it's easy to accidentally bring up the Windows 8 shell. Eventually, Microsoft plans on releasing Windows 8.1, which is supposed to give you the option of a Windows 7 shell. I'm hoping that's a free upgrade from Windows 8.

I don't like the touchpad mouse much, but I haven't met a touchpad I like. It's no worse than any other laptop, I just don't like them. I'll likely get a trackball to plug in for when I'm sitting at a desk.

The webcam and sound are excellent for videoconferencing, and fairly good for music playback and watching movies. It would be hard to find much better sound on a laptop, but I prefer more bass for music and movies, so I plug in headphones for media playback. Conveniently, the headphone and microphone jacks are located at the very front of the right side of the laptop.

Given the performance, the design quality and the price, you really can't go wrong with this laptop.

Ordered this Toshiba laptop from Amazon on Tuesday and received it the next afternoon in full and perfect condition (as usual, thanks Amazon!). Only into my 3rd day, but must say I like this laptop (expected) and Windows 8 (surprised about that).

Start/set-up was automatic, fast and easy. After getting up and running Norton did inform me of a new video driver and provided the link to the AMD site to download. It installed without issue. Windows didn't pick up my wireless printer, which I had to manually install through port selection. I decided to try the 1 month trial of Office365 and activated that as well. This laptop is fast and the display is bright, sharp, and with good color. I tried viewing some Netflix movies and the picture has no bleeding or flicker, and the sound from the speakers is much better than expected. I'm not a gamer, but this processor/graphics system is fast, and the provided 8 GB of RAM insures it doesn't bog down. Excellent performance for this price point. Note: I paid $499 but see the price does rise and fall...

I took a few minutes to register with Toshiba and received their free e-copy of Windows 8 for Dummies, which is useful. This is my first time touching Windows 8 so I must admit it took a little while to understand what was going on, and why. After several hours (about six altogether) I felt acclimated and had things pretty well set up.

I hated Windows 8 for about four of those six hours, now I like it a lot. First, I learned the start screen niceties adding/removing Apps, pinning websites, arranging tiles, screen (and edge of screen) geography, opening/closing files. Also how to access the control panel and standard desktop workspace. Two other things that helped with using Windows8 a lot were downloading the "Cheat Keys and Tips" App that gives you a lot of information on shortcuts and commands, and going to the Synaptics touchpad set-up in Control Panel, and learning how it's features allow you to use the touchpad as a surrogate to a touchscreen.

The laptop itself feels solid and well put together, and it runs cool and quiet I do have two items of concern: 1) the mouse-pad buttons are near identical to my last Toshiba laptop and I'm not convinced they're mechanically durable the left button on my last system became loose underneath on the left side and would misalign the entire button. 2) the "piano black" bezel around the screen is flimsy and cheap looking and appears to be snapped in place with plastic pop rivets.

Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this purchase. I feel this laptop offers great bang for the buck in a package that's overall very nicely put together and easy to use. I'm an older guy, and was able to learn Windows 8 fairly easily and with minimal cursing. Now I quite like it and feel it's quite similar to using my Android and Apple smartphones.

13.3" ultrabook that converts to a tablet... full microsoft office in tablet mode what's not to love. ... Battery life is pretty decent, better than my macbook pro for sure.... Only things that could have been better:

1. The screen is a bit glossy and hard to read in sunlight, but no different to a standard laptop or tablet.

2. The trackpad left/right buttons sometimes stick, nothing a double click won't sort.

I really only use it in tablet mode on an aeroplane or my sofa, so the fact it weighs more than the i Pad is mostly irrelevant to me... the overall weight of this device is much less than the combined weight of the iPad and macbook pro it is replacing, so my shoulder is very happy with the reduced weight on my travels, and now only one device to remove from my bag for airport screening.

Out of the box it was a lovely looking unit with a great looking display. However as soon as I clicked on the EULA, the system enabled the orientation sensor, which wasn't properly oriented and caused hours of issues. Two runs through Windows Update, a BIOS upgrade, and using Windows Services to turn off the YMC service finally got the system into a state where it could be used.

System is great for reading and programming, and even does graphic intensive games pretty well if you run in "Medium" mode. It can get a little warm if you are actually using it in your lap, and it's a little heavy to use as a tablet if you don't have a stand.

Still glad I got this, but for $1K I would really expect Lenovo to make sure these things shipped in fully working order.

Best Deals for Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen Ultrabook

I researched every ultrabook to find my new machine. I stumbled upon the Lenovo Yoga because the size, style, touchscreen and reputation Lenovo has.

The laptop arrived promptly thanks to Amazon. This laptop in the orange is gorgeous.

The laptop is well built but it seems the hinges could be a little stiffer. Lenovo states they did not want to make the hinges stiffer because then you would not be able to open with one hand. Don't get me wrong the screen does not wobble when using but compared to my old Dell XPS M1210 the hinges could be better.

The keyboard, mousepad and touchscreen are all top notch. The touchscreen is fluid and repsonds as quick as I touch. Same as the keyboard and mousepad. Wish the keyboard would light up.

Having the ability to flip into tablet mode is awesome. It is heavier than most tablets but remember this is not a tablet...I rarely use it as a tablet....my son loves playing games in tablet mode. He loves it so much that he thinks all laptops are touchscreen now!

Honest reviews on Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen Ultrabook

The screen is big enough to get serious work done. The entire computer is small enough to bring anywhere as well as use as a leisure device on the couch. The combination of touch and the ability to fold the device in any direction gives it a unique more customized feel. Like playing with clay or your favorite office chair that has 12 adjustments to give you the right fit for the mood of the moment.

The materials and orange finish are fantastic. My only complaint is its not fan-less/silent like an ipad. You get used to that silence but a trade off I'm willing to make since its flippin fast.

Reason why I love it:

I love this laptop because it is fast (i-5 core processor). I also love its color beautiful orange. Touch-screen is convenient. And 360 degree rotation is a major reason why I bought this laptop and I absolutely love this feature although it is little heavy to use as a tablet. It didn't bother me though because I bought this as a full-functioning laptop and occasionally wanted to use in a tablet mode.

UPDATE (March 31, 2013): I absolutely love the function keys on this ultrabook: F7-airplane mode on/off, F8-brings up last 6 screens you have been so you can go to that screen directly from what you are doing now, F9 blacks out the screen (I accidentally pressed it and everything went dark but figured out what it is forif someone walks into your room and you don't want him/her to see what you are doing you can use this key :-)...you don't even have to press 'fn' button to engage function keys.

Reason why I didn't give 5 stars:

1) I am little bit concerned that it wasn't able to restart/refresh/system recovery once (I also got error message saying there are missing files to perform system restore). I am not sure if it is a hardware-related problem or if necessary software is missing. I wanted to refresh because my keyboard suddenly stopped working, internet explore didn't open, auto-rotation button stopped working & cannot connect to wi-fi). I tried 'refresh' again and it worked for the second time. So I don't understand why I got an error message for the first time but it is working fine after 'refreshing' my laptop was successful. If it has problems again I would have to contact Lenovo manufacturer customer service as it is still under manufacturer's warranty (it was shipped on March 2, 2013).

2) Windows 8 has some shortcomings. For example, certain features are not completely touch-operable, meaning that I have to use a mouse to use drop-down menus on websites. Another major complain is that once I log in to my amazon.com account there is no way to log out as there is no 'log out' option in the drop-down menus in Internet Explorer (both metro and desk top versions). I can log out on other websites or if I use Chrome. I hope Microsoft will fix these shortcomings in the near future.

I will update my review whether it continues to have the same problem or not. If it doesn't happen again I will upgrade my rating to 4.

The item arrived super-fast, so I have no quarrels with that. However, the laptop was in worse condition than described by the seller: on the outside everything was nice and shiny, but I guess nobody bothered to dust the inside of the poor thing. It took me about 20 minute and two cans of compressed air to make it look "normal"; the laptop came with a few missing screws, so I had to buy those as well; it coms with Windows XP Pro, SP1, so you'll need to do ALL the updates in the past 5 years. Loads of fun...

All in all, the laptop runs great (once cleaned) and it was definitely worth its price.

Amazing laptop, I have had this for a long time with very few issues. Most issues were from viruses and what not and that does not speak on the craftsmanship of the product. Best computer I have ever owned, will buy from this company in the future.

I purchased this laptop back when it came out in 2009. What convinced me at the time was that it came with an Nvidia Geforece 9600M video card, not the best in its class but certainly much better than many of the integrated chips offered on laptops of comparable price. The laptop is extremely sturdy and well built. I've been throwing it in my backpack for 3 years and its still intact. At the time, it offered awesome performance for the price.

only complaints.. Runs a little hot, its a bit heavy and the clicker on the pad is a a bit stiff and noisy. Otherwise, it was a a great buy. I just upgraded to an Alienware m14x, but I deffinitely plan to keep this one as a backup. This thing is a tank.

I have the x83v model and have had it for the better part of 5 years now. It's lasted through everything and is still firing on all cylinders. My webcam did recently stop working but that's more than understandable after all this thing has been through. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because if used for periods longer than an hour of 2 it gets excessively hot and makes it uncomfortable to type let alone put it on your lap. A great laptop for the price though and the model here comes with a 9600 as opposed to the 9300 gfx card i have.

Honest reviews on Asus X83VB-X1 Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0GHz 4GB 250GB DVD±RW DL 14.1"

I got this laptop a year ago. I received it used from my brother, and have had no issues on it in the past year. I walk around with my laptop in arm a lot, and it has survived a few falls to the carpet. Although it's a bit bulky compared to some of the newer laptops available, it's very sturdy and I don't find its size a problem.

As far as cons to this product, they are few and not very important to me. The laptop does get pretty hot if you use it a lot (I'm on it for most of my waking hours of the day), but this is forgiveable, especially if you have one of those lap-desks for putting a laptop on. The mouse clicker is a bit noisy, but I have a separate mouse I use so this doesn't bother me at all.

Overall, a great laptop. I would easily reccommend this to anyone. ^^

I don't watch movies or play games on the computer, so I don't know if it's recomended for this kind of use. But I do a lot of traveling and it's hanging on very well.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO VGN-CS230J/Q 14.1-Inch Laptop - Black

The hardware is great and it runs good most of the time but after about 6 month's many buttons stopped working. A screen flicker at the bottom of the screen started after 9 month's, it's a known issue Sony will fix but refuse too. I sent it in and they said it had water damage regardless of the fact that it's never touched water and the moisture sticker clearly shows no moisture has touched the laptop. I would just avoid Sony, not because they make horrible products but because they refuse to help there customers. Also after 10 month's the fan went off balance and began to buzz very loud, I had it replaced for 50 dollars by an IT Tech.

This is my first Vaio after experience with Dell, HP, and Compaq laptops. This one is by far my favorite and the best I have ever had. This laptop also comes with a quadcore processor making it extremely fast. I have had no problems with it. It is lightweight, compact, and good-looking. No regrets. In fact, my wife just purchased a new laptop and we went with another Vaio.

My wife has been using this laptop for her business when she needs to work out of another office. The ThinkPad T430 is built with reliability in mind and features components that are on the higher -end. While many cheaper laptops flex, wobble or heat up too much, the T430 has no issues to speak of. While the specs for the price are not impressive, if you are using this for business you will be happy to have a computer that works as it should. My wife's is upgraded to a 1600 x 900 screen, additional mSata SSD for caching, a modest GPU and a 9 cell battery. All of these upgrades were well worth the money, but certainly depend on your individual needs. The i5-3210m processor handles most tasks easily without draining the battery too fast and Windows 7 Pro is always a plus for business. At almost 5 lbs., this laptop is a bit heavy for a 14" but again, it the added durability is worth it. I would easily recommend a T430 for any business-oriented individual who wants a reliable, competent and portable laptop.

I am extremely hard on my electronics, so I go through laptops about every 1.5 years. Our IT guy recommended that I take a look at the Lenovo Think Pad, since many of his other clients use them . I also really like how the keys have a concave shape to them, it makes it very easy to keep your fingers on the keys...way better than laptops with the all flat keys. I highly recommend this laptop.

This laptop is one of the best laptops I've owned by far. It's amazing for gaming and pretty much anything at the price I bought it at ($598).. The sound on this laptop is amazing, boost with headphones. It's a beast, why spend 1,000 dollars on a gaming computer when you get can get this a low price and pretty much have the same performance.. I don't have one complaint about this laptop and I've been using it for two weeks. It stays cool and the screen is the perfect size battery life is very good. I recommend getting this laptop!

A quad core CPU leading GPU performance, in the future the HD may be replaced with SSD storage turbo charging the already good performance prolonging its life for 5-7 years of good performance.

A massage to the kids at heart: this laptop can handle all new games, not a trivial capability for a laptop without a discrete graphic card.

I still cannot believe the price I got this for..trust me, the price was so so low, it will make everyone envious. The Windows Experience index is 5.9..primarily that's due to the hard drive. All of the other ratings were great..the processor and memory are rated at 7.1 and 7.2..7.2 for the memory. 3D graphics are at a 6.6 and Desktop graphics is 6. something(I don't bother looking at that). Anyway, this was less than $400 when I purchased it..CRAZY AWESOME!! I bought this primarily for the screen and memory..both an upgrade from my previous laptop, which was an AMD A10-4500m tHE BENCHMARKS are similar..but the screen is nice and the keyboard is pleasant to type on. It always amuses me that people spend 900-1200 for an I7 or even I5 pc, and yet those computers STILL have integrate graphics which cannot even considered gameworthy. This is totally gameworhy..100% of games listed on the Futuremark website can be played on at least the High setting. 71% of those games can be maxxed out!! Not too shabby at $400!! PLAY ON!!

I bought the HP Envy dv6-7247cl as a Christmas gift. While updating the installed software and removing the unwanted software (Norton) it had a couple of blue screen reboots but it came back just fine. A couple of days after using it I noticed the top of the keyboard sticking out so I snapped it back into place not sure if it came that way or it popped out from lifting / carrying the laptop. The laptop flexes quite a bit if you lift it from the corner. It has a multi touch pad that is hard for some people to use. You can easily zoom the screen out if you touch two fingers at the same time. After about three months of use it would not start but came back to life the next day. It worked for three more days and then went dead while using it and never came back on. I sent it to HP for warranty work where they replaced the motherboard and some other part. They also told me that the battery was bad and they would replace it as soon as they get some. I got the laptop back but have been waiting two weeks now for the battery. I just have to be close to the outlet to use the computer until the battery comes in. Today my wife noticed that the "V" key had fallen off. I was able to snap it back on. My 10 year old HP laptop hasn't missed a beat. This one won't last that long.

Update: Computer has been running fine since the repair by HP. The battery plus an extra one finally arrived and work fine.

I wanted this laptop as a secondary to my work machine. I use it to VPN into work when I work from home. Hence went with the high processor and RAM. Easy to set up and use. New to Windows 8 but got used to itin a couple of days. Love the laptop so far. Battery life is not great but adequate. Not sure about the beats audio either... I don't have a beats head phone. Sound quality is good though. Love watching movies/videos on its big screen. All in all a very good buy at the price I paid.

I have had this laptop for over a month, and so far am very pleased with it.It arrived in extremely good condition.I didn't want to purchase a brand new laptop and spend that kind of money,my last laptop was a re-furbished one as well and I had it for 3 years.I accidently spilled a cup of hot tea into it and it ruined it.I was still hesitant about ordering a pc over the internet and now I would do it again and stick with the same seller Affordable PC LLC,I purchased through them because of their positive rating and for the $130 plus shipping charges I paid,I couldn't be happier.

The laptop arrived in just a few days after I ordered it and was preloaded with the software I needed where I noticed that other sellers where charging extra for that.

This is an excellent laptop made of high quality materials. I will give some of the pros and cons. I owned the previous Dell XPS 15 with the RGBLED display and sandy bridge processor.

Pros

1.Excellent Audio Quality. (This laptop is louder than the previous Dell XPS 15 with JBL speakers and subwoofer) this was a positive surprise.

2.Display is definitely high quality. Colors really look good and edge to edge gorilla glass makes display look even better

3.Case Quality/Design Brushed aluminum is very high quality and rubberized material on top and bottom feels good

4.Excellent Keyboard. No Flex. Very easy to type on.

5.Quieter than other Dell XPS 15

6.32 GB SSD helps with a very fast boot time

7.Very good Battery Life

Cons

1. Not an IPS display. (Vertical viewing angles could be better)

2. No subwoofer

3. Overpriced! This is my opinion. I think the price will come down a bit, maybe to 1199. It does not include 3610 processor and GT 640/650 graphics card.

4. Weak Wifi (Needs an update badly, I really hope it happens soon. It is pretty bad)

This is an excellent laptop but should probably be priced $100 less. I would recommend this laptop to anyone. It just feels really good and it is relatively lightweight. If offers many features and still remains much cheaper than an equivalent Macbook Pro laptop. I still think this laptop is a good buy and would give it a 90/100. It is a bit better than 4/5 but not quite 5 stars. You immediately notice the design and quality of materials is top of the line. As I stated earlier, this laptop does not have RGBLED display, nor does it have the JBL sound system. However, it is very interesting because the image quality is simply incredible when looking at photos and watching videos. Sound quality is also very very good and it is much louder than the previous Dell XPS 15.

For the price, they should have put a better graphics card and larger power brick to have better gaming performance. Dell offers better but heavier gaming laptops with their Alienware laptops. This laptop is very portable and most people will not do heavy gaming. The computer should be able to handle most of the games on medium and a number of them on high settings.

I purchased this laptop less than 5 months ago and I now have a blank screen with a blinking underscore. It won't boot up windows at all. I called tech support and a gentleman I could barely understand told me the only option I have its to mail it to them it will be $100 to look at it and repairs will be extra and they will have the laptop for over a month. How could Dell describe their warranty program as " an outstanding limited warranty". That is a below standard warranty. Don't purchase this laptop. Buy a Mac. I have not had any issues with my Mac and their customer service is outstanding. Shame on you Dell!

This is a well designed, easy to use, and with a nice trackpad computer. The only drawback is that it is a bit heavier and the aluminium chassis is prone to scratches. The display is not crisp (you can see little pixels)(even with 1080p). Other than that, I think it's better than Samsung series 9 in terms of design. If it came with a cheaper price tag (with SSD), and if it was a little light, it would beat MBP. God job Dell, but you can make it a fine product by improving little issues on the future products.

I purchased this laptop after returning a similar ACER version which was defective. The Inspiron is a typical DELL product, very good but not outstanding. This particular machine has no defects that I can tell; it has a chicklet keyboard like the ACER, but the keys are a bit more raised and rounded, and I find I can touch-type on it without too much difficulty (I do not like chicklet keyboards!) One property of this machine that astounded me was the weight...this is no feather-light item--it seems to weigh a ton, figuratively speaking. The screen definition is excellent, but this particular unit can't be set low enough in brightness to make viewing comfortable under all conditions. I recommend it as a compromise between a fixed-location unit and a true portable. One can carry it in an appropriate satchel, but it is not a unit that one would use on the subway or in an airplane...it is too massive.

I have owned many Dells desk tops and have been supplied Dell lap tops by my work, and when my eight year old Dell desk top started slowing down, I decided to order another Dell. This lap top arrived in a sealed factory box and booted up without any issues.

I would have given it five stars, but the keyboard is a bit flimsy. It seems to move downwards when I press the keys. The other issue which others have reported, is that the wifi reports lower signal strength at the same location then what my other Dells do. Other than these two issues, this is a nice machine.

Ordering from Dell was ridiculously complex. Involved returning multiple emails confirming past three living addresses to an incredibly rude customer service rep and having to preemptivley clear charges with financial institution to state purchase was not a fake.

Received product and it flat out stopped working within one week. After 90 minutes with another pissy customer service rep they state it is the operating system that is crap. Too bad they don't provide you the operating system disk with purchase. State they will send me a copy of the disk in the mail. Fail to notify me that I must be present to recieve purchase and they will not even allow you to have the option to pick up from delivery service directly. This is an issue since I work during the day.

Contact company to return piece of garbage and they state it isnt eligible to be returned since they think the product wouldn't be defective if they could just fix it.

Horrible customer service. Avoid at all costs. I should not have purchased a product from a company that clearly has no interest in accountability.

One last note. I purchased the McaFee security package for 3 years. It was not installed. I talked to McaFee customer service and they were able to install right away...but it should have been installed by Dell prior to delivery.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I attempted to buy this as my new laptop, as I work from home and use them regularly but am pretty experienced with them, having owned quite a few over the last 15 years.

It's less than a week later, and the computer has already required a 2-hour call with tech support to correct the horrible wireless reception (which is mentioned in the review by Lexi above) which ended with little help and them telling me it must work on a "different frequency" then the previous laptop and Apple iPod I own which both connect with no problems to my router. Now, this morning, the hard drive started randomly clicking loudly and the entire thing became almost frozen and unusable. According to Google this is ANOTHER known problem with these laptops.

I can't believe a company would take my money and then send me something so defective in response. I feel embarrassed about having mentioned to people that I'd bought a new laptop and now explain when they ask me that I have to return it, and I feel like the company either took advantage of me or attempted to rip me off by sending me this and hoping I would accept it. Furthermore, they have placed me in an awkward situation of having to get rid of this barely functional piece of garbage while I NEED a functioning computer to do my work.

The rest of my feelings about this "product" and the company which sent it to me are the type I couldn't say without resorting to some vicious and inappropriate language, so I will stop myself here. The laptop is getting returned as soon as possible and I will be getting my money back and doing business with another company. And if Dell gives me a single issue about it, then I will take this MUCH further and see to it that they lose more than one customer.

I purchased this computer to serve as a personal/backup machine to my custom built desktop that is running high end specs that take care of most of my personal computer tasks and gaming.

This is a excellent machine for the price. I choose it because I do like Dell's and the fact that it is becoming harder to come by a Windows 7 laptop, which was another big reason for deciding to go with this machine too. There are some real pleasant surprises in this computer that I found.

Just for the record, I only use this laptop for the essentials, meaning I only use it for internet, email, chat, Netflix/youtube and word processing. Anyone that requires capable gaming or other intensive programs should probably up their price range a bit.

Pros

Great clean looking casing and build. Smooth all around, plastic, but feels pretty robust and durable.

Large and responsive touchpad with multi gestures, this is one of the best touchpads I've used on a windows laptop

Keyboard is nice and sturdy and pretty easy to type on

Speakers are very capable

Overall smooth and responsive once the computer is started up and running

Screen is bright and clear and easy to read

Dell's service tag system makes it very easy to retrieve drivers and support off their website

Cons

It's a bit heavy if you plan to travel with it

Lots of preinstalled bloatware slows the machine down when first starting it up, and must be stripped to reach desired performance

Start up is a bit slow even after stripping bloatware, the 5400RPM drive seems unusually slower then most

The fans kick up a bit at times, I am particularly a little sensitive to noise so this may not bother others much as it does me

As you can see, the pros greatly outweigh the cons, and once I configured and customized the laptop to my liking, its great for basic tasks and looks nice. I mostly use this laptop in my bedroom and a little bit around the house, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily traveler, but as a secondary/backup computer, I couldn't go wrong with this choice.
