Cheap Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 1024-AYU 15.6" Notebook PC - Intel Core
I would recommend it to students because the keyboard is awesome and it can do anything pretty much! My only complaint is it takes awhile to recognize flash drives but overall it is excellent!

Best HP G62-407DX Notebook PC AMD Phenom II P650 2.6GHz - 15.6" LED Deals
I bought this laptop to replace my Compaq Presario 3640 w/Athlon 64 processor (0.8 GHz) when the LCD screen went out. I purchased it in 2004. I love AMD processors because they significantly reduce the price of laptops and desktops alike. I absolutely love my HP G62-407DX with it's AMD Phenom II P650 2.6 GHz processor. I needed a lightweight, fast, multitasking laptop with a decent screen size (15.6"in LED display) and a webcam. This laptop multitasks and allows me to connect most anywhere there is wi-fi. Windows 7 operating system (Home Premium 64bit) is better than I anticipated. I was only seconds from purchasing a MAC. Overall I am satisfied. If you are a superuser or a gamer this is not for you. If you send/receive email, bring some of your work home with you or just want a great mid level laptop then I would say buy this laptop. It has proved to be a great multimedia laptop and with a usb tv tuner you can DVR your favorite TV shows and plays well when connected to the pc port on my hd tv. It would be nice to have a 1080p resolution (only 720p display). Does not come with restore disk and it takes a long time create. If you need a good laptop for under $500.00 this is the one for you. In my case it was well under $400.00. I use mine to update my Cub Scout Pack website, desktop publishing and entertainment. Good webcam.

I had been searching around for a laptop for awhile, and wanted something cool looking.
So heres some specs;
PROS:
Webcam looks pretty good,
Love the sound, pretty good quality
Easy keyboard,
Tons of cool programs,
Good for schooling.
CONS:
The mouse, it's pretty stupid.. but i manage since my wireless mouse broke.
the mouse buttons are hard to press untill you've used it for a few weeks.
my computer is starting to run kinda slow, and i'm hating that. i dont have many programs, music or files on here.
The USB ports are too close together, so my ipod cord and my USB flash drive cant be plugged next to eachother because they wont fit.
And of course, the battery. It DOES NOT last long, at all. which bugs me, because i have to bring my charger with me EVERYWERE. it lasts me maybe, 3 hours.
BUT, all in all. I do like this computer and hope to keep it for awhile. So i would reccomend.

Tons of options. I use this note book for Amazon.com and tons of browsing. Windows 7 makes everything easier to navigate and figure out your computer if your as computer illiterate as me. HP support has been awsome despite the reviews Ive read about them. 3 usb ports,hdmi,mic in, headphone jack, wireless and ethernet supported dvd buner wwith lightscribe(just need the lightscribe disks), sd card input. Update: I decided, I really don't like this computer anymore. It's runnign really slow. Takes one or two minutes to load to the startup/account menu. The body of the laptop/skin gets dirty and is hard to clean. The glossy black scratches fast. It's such a slow computer. And, the battery lasts me MAYBE an hour and ten minutes of just browsing the internet, on low screen light. I'm going to save up for an apple laptop. I've always had a good experience with apple.________________

Review of Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5076 LED TruBrite 15.6-Inch Laptop
Worth every penny when it comes to looks, performance and display.
I've owned a Dell Inspiron 6400 before this, so my entire review is influenced by my personal experience with that machine.
The Dell I owned was a highly customized laptop with some of the best specs available to me 3 years ago. But the battery sucked. (Only time will tell how good the battery is on this TOSHIBA)
The one thing I miss in my Toshiba is Bluetooth, since I'm used to transferring pictures and taking back up from my phone all the time, over bluetooth. A conenience definitely, but its absence in Toshiba is definitely not a Limitation.
Pros:
The Display is brilliant. At its highest setting, the screen looks bright enough to be able to read even in bright sunlight in a park (not that I do it, but its just an example to give you an idea of how bright it is)
The Multi-touch fingerpad is quite useful once you get used to it. You can tweak its settings from the properties, and I have my 'Right Mouse Button', 'Middle Mouse Button', two finger scrolling, pinch zoom, picture rotation, all set on my fingerpad. I barely have to use the buttons under the finger pad. A lot of other settings enable me to control my mouse pointer like a well seasoned chef playing with a chef's knife!
The processor, albeit a tad noisy, does perform the way it is supposed to. I mean hey, its a Quad core, and so I tested it out by having Firefox and Chrome with 4-5 tabs each open while I played Left 4 Dead. I could never do this on my Inspiron (Core 2 Duo with a 2 GB RAM, but here on TOSHIBA it was a breeze!!! (Touchwood!)
The battery lasts me a good 2.5 3 hours with lots of applications running, some videos, and gaming (all of this at 50% screen brightness) which I think is pretty decent.
I like the little button above the fingerpad which lets me lock/unlock my fingerpad; so if I'm merely typing something, I can avoid mouse interference when my wrist or palm brushes over it mistakenly, by simply pressing that button and locking the mousepad.
Cons:
The fingerpad is placed on the left half of the computer, so using it with my right hand is a little inconvenient. I am ambidextrous so it isn't too big a deal for me, but still I wish it was a little more to the center.
There's no depression or demarcation of the fingerpad from the rest of the body (except that it gets a little rough textured) so my fingers tend to run out of the fingerpad when using it to scroll or do fancy stuff.
A little noisy at times. The fan starts running and doesn't give up... It doesn't happen all the time, and its not a big problem to me, but its just something I noticed. (Considering the fact that there are 4 processors at work here, I think high fan work is expected)
Definitely a finger print magnet.
The keyboard and mousepad buttons seem a little delicate and too plastic-ey!
-Lack of Bluetooth!
Loads of useless software comes pre-installed, but you can always remove it, so its not a major problem to me.
Summary:
Overall, I think this is a very good machine, perfect for someone who is not into extreme computing or super rich!
Good price, more than a decent performance, and good battery life.
I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a nice processor at a nice price!
The reason I've given it 5 stars despite a not too short list of cons is because none of those cons are a deal breaker to me, nor do they even remotely outweigh the pros of this product.
UPDATE (6/4/2011):
The battery life is not so great as i expected initially. It lasts me exactly 2 hours, when using on power saver setting or eco mode. This is not too good specially considering how I don't use a lot of applications at the same time, but mostly browsing. All in all, I say if you don't mind plugging your laptop for charging every now and then, this is a good choice considering its performance. but if portability is even the remotest concerns you have, this one's not the best choice. Would I still buy it, probably not, since there are other laptops with almost as good a performance, but a better battery life at a close enough price.

Cons:
Unreliable-Hard drive failed in less than 5 months. Sent back to toshiba a second time 6 months later to have failed motherboard replaced.
Less than 2 hour battery life. Even when only using an internet browser. Less than an hour if using more than 70% cpu power.
Customer Service Representatives are Outsourced and Incompetent! Several communication errors. Payed $14 dollars for "speedy warranty service". All you really get is next day air shipping to the repair facility. They spend a week on the laptop and sent it back ground. "Speedy service" took a total of 1.5 weeks(in the middle of finals).
Overall: I would strongly recommend against purchasing this laptop.
However due to AMD cpu, CPU fan is always working to cool down the CPU.
Also Average CPU temp is higher than 50C.

I've had it for a couple weeks now, it runs great, the graphics for my video games are awesome, and it was easy set up. I got this machine for gaming, surfing, keeping in touch while traveling. Okay, this is the first time we have purchased a computer or laptop that wasn't from Dell, and I guess we picked the wrong computer from toshiba. I totally agree with the other poster that gave this item a 1 star review. We have encounter poor customer service, they tried to get us to buy another warranty for the software saying that was the problem & wouldn't fix it since it was a software problem. We informed them that we had a diagnostic scan & that it was indeed the hardrive... again. They took it & fixed, twice. We have had it back for less than a month & now there is something else wrong with it. We have never had trouble with the other 4 computers/laptops that we have owned.Thursday, October 2, 2014

Comparing to my ASUS with the i3 processor I expected this to be much faster and it was not. Had to take to computer guy to get rid of bloatware also.
To you suppose that maybe you just got a bad one? Amazon would have helped you work through this.

I purchase notebooks for our office all the time... This is the first I have purchased from Amazon and by Acer.... It will be the last from either. Horrible product.

I've had good experiences with you in the past, but this Acer laptop I bought from your site for $553.20 (order #002-2809933-d1921830) has been nothing but an ordeal!!!! The sound didn't function (I could barely hear it, even though all levels were at maximum)...I paid $80 for a computer tech, who couldn't fix it, so I had to ship it to Acer for repair (box COST ME $10). I probably could have sent it back to you, but sent it to Acer, who said they'd try and fix it. And I have had four Acers...some bought through Amazon...and have had years of trouble free computing. I have not purchased this particular model, but the last line indicates that the reviewer will never buy another Acer...or purchase a computer from Amazon. The experience of the previous reviewer is unfortunate, but has not been my experience at all.To you suppose that maybe you just got a bad one? Amazon would have helped you work through this.

Audio is obviously "bad' , both via the built in loudspeakers, and with 3rd party loudspeakers ( external) which work brilliantly on my MacBook. Voice sounds like the person speaking is on helium, and music is just plain pathetic. Customer Support tried to help but were unable to come up with any worthwhile suggestions other than "I would suggest that you to perform a system recovery from the hard drive partition to resolve the issue. If the issue related to software, it will be resolved by performing a recovery.Please note that all your personal data files and applications will be lost, if you perform a recovery. Within 3 hours of opening I have rebooted 7 times due to system unresponsiveness. I have not installed any new software, right out of the box. Actually, just to get back to Amazon.com to write this review I had to wait 3 minutes for Internet explorer to open and received "Windows Explorer is not Responding" error twice.I purchase notebooks for our office all the time... This is the first I have purchased from Amazon and by Acer.... It will be the last from either. Horrible product.

Reviews of Dell Inspiron i14RN-1227BK 14-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black)
At this price, this machine is a steal. It has the capability of a full-fledged computer and the convenience of an extremely portable laptop. At just over 5 lbs. it's certainly heavier than a tablet, a Macbook Air or an ultrabook, but then again it has all the advantages of a "real" computer. Responsiveness is outstanding since Windows 7 is a great OS, certainly when compared to Vista. Even compared to Apple's OS X, Windows 7 performs quite well, although it is of course much more "labor intensive", which is another way of saying that it's not quite as user friendly. On the plus side, it provides what is possibly the most widely used software platform in the world. All in all you can't go wrong with this device if you are looking for something that provides heavy lifting computing power as compared to a tablet or even an ultrabook.
A few things to note on it's favor:
Did not come dead on arrival (DOA).
Windows Installation was fast.
Can run entertainment apps / casual and social gaming perfectly.
I love the idea of being able to use different covers (I have not tried it yet).
The trackpad's surface is one of the best I have used so far.
The battery holds it's charge as described and intended.
The internal speakers have great power, enough to watch a video in a medium-size living room without plugging other speakers.
Wireless adapter is pretty strong, it can list-down wireless points that my desktop adapter can't.
Some downsides:
Comes with the already-known Bloatware, simply uninstall all those pesky useless programs/games/antivirus.
After modifying the mouse / trackpad settings I got a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) STOP Error: 0x000009f DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (This problem occurs because of a race condition between two bus resets.). However, after I updated Windows 7 everything seems to be in order now.
It's glossy, expect a lot of fingerprints on it.
Multi-gesture trackpad feature doesn't work 100%, it seems not to be so accurate.
The Trackpad can get warm when running process-extensive software or features but not to a point it is uncomfortable.
I have yet to find anything that ruins my experience, reason why I scored the laptop a 5. I will update this review in case it's necessary and let you know.
For the price you can't beat it. The Intel core i3 2.30GHz processor with 6G ram make it fast enough for just about everything you would possibly need it to do. The 446GB hard drive is large enough for most folks, just don't try to store your entire movie collection on there.
The reviews that I did read questioned a few things. One was over the graphic quality of the monitor. I found no issue with it. I'm sure for someone involved in editing photos or animation this laptop wouldn't do it, but for less than $500 your not going to get those sort of capabilities.
There are some bad reviews out there over the battery. Battery performance is based on how long the computer will hold power under the most ideal of circumstances. Heavy use, such as movie watching and gaming, and the use of outside peripherals will reduce your battery life. Even using the built in wi-fi antenna will reduce your battery life. This holds true for all laptops I have used over the years. Sony, Avertec, Toshiba, and HP were no exception. This is my first Dell computer.
There are only two issues that I have with the computer and they are minor. The first one is its lack of software. It does come with ms-office starter. Word on it has a lot of the functionality of it removed so for a student you will need to get another word processing program or update your starter edition. (openoffice.org has one downloadable for free. It also doesn't come with copies of the software so you will need 3 recordable dvds in order to make your backups.
The other issue is the cover. This laptop is party of the Dell Inspiron series with the switchable covers. While I like the black and won't get another cover for it I have no idea how to remove it and the documentation in the box gave no explanation on this.
I am extremely satisfied with this machine and have no regrets in purchasing it
Pros: The PC is fast and reliable. Boot time and wake up time is *much* faster than my old Compaq Vista. Win7 is a much faster and user-friendly OS than Vista or XP. 6 Gig of memory on this laptop ensures the applications run smoothly and seamlessly with many windows open at once. The laptop is relatively small and light yet has pretty much all the features of a powerful desktop. Keypad feels very nicely when you are typing. The trackpad has some neat new features and is very adjustable. Machine automatically shuts off the trackpad when you plug in a mouse.
Cons: Battery only lasts 3 hrs if you are using the machine. It says 6 hrs when you mouse over the battery icon when fully charged. Also the ports are not labeled on the edges of the typing surface of the machine so you have to crane your neck to find the locations of the USB ports or the power jack if you are trying to connect something.

Bought one of these a few weeks ago to use for a sports club I administer. Needed a simple machine to do basic taskse-mail, web browsing, word processor....and to run a sports meet software. Great machine for these basis tasks. Price point is super, cheaper than many tablets or even in some cases a cell phone, and much more capable. Tested WiFi in an area where most cell phones and computers have trouble with weak signal, and this works great. Runs cool, battery life even with the basic battery is good, and weight is light enough to make it easily used on a...laptop. HDMI output is great, I hooked this up to my projector with no issues. Connectivity options for USB, HDMI, eSATA great for this price range. I am delighted with this purchase. I use it for business about 12 hours every day of the week. Staples had these on sale for $449 and was giving a $100 Visa card rebate with every purchase, so I could not resist the sub $400 price.Pros: The PC is fast and reliable. Boot time and wake up time is *much* faster than my old Compaq Vista. Win7 is a much faster and user-friendly OS than Vista or XP. 6 Gig of memory on this laptop ensures the applications run smoothly and seamlessly with many windows open at once. The laptop is relatively small and light yet has pretty much all the features of a powerful desktop. Keypad feels very nicely when you are typing. The trackpad has some neat new features and is very adjustable. Machine automatically shuts off the trackpad when you plug in a mouse.
Cons: Battery only lasts 3 hrs if you are using the machine. It says 6 hrs when you mouse over the battery icon when fully charged. Also the ports are not labeled on the edges of the typing surface of the machine so you have to crane your neck to find the locations of the USB ports or the power jack if you are trying to connect something.

Cheap Apple MacBook MB881LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)
My review... take it for what it is... mine. (I provide my story so that you can see why I purchased this computer. If you don't care, don't read the review).
To me, Mac always seemed like it would take a leap of faith. Having had very little interaction with Macs and even less knowledge about them, I was set to be a Windows boy for life. However, recently I found out that I will be going on a ship that is gone all of the time (I'm in the Navy). Needing to have my kids see me reading books to them and me needing to see my kids, I planned on leaving my current laptop with my wife and getting a new one for me (she doesn't care about electronics). This way we could create DVDs and send them to each other for our kids and myself. I went into a store looking to spend not too much and was attracted by the HP entertainment laptops. However... when looking at a $ laptop I knew I would have to add an anti-virus ($-$) and a movie making program ($-$). The guy at the store told me that for what I was looking at in price I should check out the Macs.
Low and behold... there were the Macs. Each sitting there, looking different, and pricey. I was then told about iLife and how I would be able to use iMovie to make my movies, iChat to chat with my family on webcam, iPhoto to import and fix up pictures, and other stuff. WoW! My previous experience with the Windows based programs of this nature was that you'd be better off buying these types of software than using what was included by the computer. However, the sales guy, who was not on commission, swore by them. Also, Macs don't need anti-virus software to boot! I was sold when he told me the difference in the customer satisfaction index when comparing Macs and all of the other computer makers.
I took the plunge.
As you can see from my stars... I'm glad I did. I will NEVER go back to a windows based PC. EVER. While this computer has a few cons, which I will list later, it is much better than what you can get for the same price as far as a PC. Here is what I liked:
The Exterior:
This computer is small. Its compact, it feels really sturdy, and its stylish. There is an apple on the back that lights up from the light of the LCD screen, pretty neat. Also, the keys have just the right punch for those of us that know how to type. The F keys also double for the bright level of the screen, the feature expose (which is outstanding!), and movie stop, go, vol, etc. There is an eject button next to the F12, which works well with this type of drive.
The Interior: iLife is a great program. All of the stuff that comes with it will ensure that unless you need something very very professional you won't have to buy any software. Home videos are awesome with this thing. I can't really compare Leopard to the previous operating systems... since this is my first mac... but I can tell you that it kicks vista's butt. An example; I wanted to hook up my printer, which has only been used on Windows PCs before, and I plugged it in. That's it. I plugged it in and it worked. No drivers, no software, nothing. As soon as I plugged it in and click to make it my default printer it was printing. HOLY COW! THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN MISSING! Since I've started using my Mac I have had ZERO "trying to find a solution to the problem" pop ups, ZERO "this program has stopped working", ZERO freezes, ZERO compatibility issues with current hardware (external drive of music and wireless network), and ZERO defects found.
Now the cons:
1) 120 GB hard drive... Yes its easy to hook up the "time machine" or to keep all of your photos or movies on an external hard drive, but for a company that has a 120 GB MP3 player that's just over $... come on!
2) The mouse pad doesn't let you double click for actions to occur. You have to push the button. As a lifetime Windows user this took some getting used to. However... you can scroll up and down easily by using two fingers. I've enjoyed this so much that I'm going to call it a draw :)
3) No multimedia slot for media card, etc. Apple! What are you doing?!?! Its a simple thing to install and it make it much easier for me so that I don't have to always remember where that stupid USB cord that hooks my camera to my computer is. I'd much rather take the card out and insert it.
That's all of my cons.
Once again... I LOVE THIS MAC. On the 2 GB of RAM that it has it works just as well as a windows PC with 4 or more GB. That's because the OS is designed better and the processes don't bog it down. The processor is fast enough to where this seems faster than my wifes 2.4 gHZ laptop (of course that is in conjunction with other aspects of the computer). The colors are great, and the system is great. You WILL have the "Mac Learning Curve" as I was told... it takes about 4-5 hours to get used to and 10-15 to really get to know, but its worth it. Plus, Apple puts videos on each function so that when you open it, it explains how to use it.
I took the leap of faith, and now I'm a believer. So long windows!!! Never again! Spend the extra - bucks... you'll save it anyway by not having to get the anti-virus and having all the stuff you need on it. Oh, and go to after you get your Mac. Its a non-profit site that I've started using to help me learn the system and it's great.

Still using this MacBook and still loving it. I've gotten really good with what it has to offer and am still amazed at how easy it is to use compared to Windows based PCs. The iLife 09 software (incl) has proven itself very useful and works well with other software. An example, Photoshop works well with iPhoto. I haven't run into any wall and still recommend it with 5 stars.
This White 2.0 MacBook is a terrific combination of price and features: you can expect similar performance to the uni-body Aluminum 2.0 MacBooks, but $100s cheaper. Plus, this MacBook comes with FireWire and uses cheaper DDR2 ram. Only significant trade off that I can see is losing the uber-cool uni-body design. Less significant is not getting the uni-Body's LED backlight, multi-touch, and some monitor support.
Comparing this MacBook to previous generation MacBooks (non-unibody); the change to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M will provide a large boost in graphics performance over the Intel units. Supposedly, this is new hardware that OS X 10.6 will be able to take further advantage of.
Overall performance has surprised me. I had planned to drop in 4GB of ram and a 7200 rpm hard drive, but I am so pleased with the operation that I just don't see the need. I use it for web browsing, iPhoto, Mail, Word, Excel, etc. So far I have not experienced any stutters or pauses. If I were to run Vista apps or edit HD video, I am sure that this might change the need for more ram.
Regarding comfort, I have not noted any heat build-up, nor is there excessive fan noise. Keep in mind that I haven't taxed it much. The overall build quality seems fine.
Through the years I usually bought from Apple's refurb store, but I am am very pleased with this purchase and feel that I received an excellent value.
Follow-up Feb 26, 2009: "Still 5 Stars"
After several weeks of use on a daily basis, I continue to be impressed by this product and just how much OS X has advanced (and I am also a very heavy XP/Vista laptop user in my professional life). Everything just comes together so well and this MacBook's performance continues to surprise me. I just slammed it pretty hard by applying facial recognition to our 12,000+ piece iPhoto library and it just works great. Apple sure made up some ground in the last couple years.
First I tried a MacMini to try out the operating system. It wasn't easy to upgrade but I did it--bigger HD and more memory. I love that little machine and it was cheap.
Then my old Toshiba laptop began to exhibit signs of death. Time for a decision. I could continue to use my test box Dell laptop D600 (solid machine) with three swapping HD's--Linux, XP, and FreeBSD (yeah, I know), or make the switch to Apple for good.
Being retired and semi-poor, I researched and went with this new MacBook White 2.0. First you just have to upgrade the HD and memory, but that is easy and cheap. The Momentus 320/7200 and some Crucial memory are the way to go, and your total cost is only about 130 bucks. Using SuperDuper to clone the drive is dead easy.
The MacWhite is kinda ugly, no doubt about it. Even my wife who is a very practical, no nonsense computer user and never cares what a computer looks like as long as it works, said it was an ugly little thing, yes? And yes, for the same bucks you can get a seemingly faster PC laptop with bigger screen. But hey, for a bigger screen, I use my MacMini on a nice old 19inch LCD. Laptops are for laps, for traveling, for packing around, and for daily use. If you can only afford one and want both, then by all means spend a couple of grand and get the big one with 17inch screen.
Overall I like the following: OS is a dream to use; ergonomics the best, software better than most and no time wasted on all that junk that you have to do to keep XP/Vista safe and running smoothly. Could that be the Unix ancestry? I think so. Weight and size are just fine for my needs. It is portable and connects quickly to foreign and domestic networks. I like the firewire that they kept, and the superdrive they added. I like the keyboard and ease of cleaning the case.
Things I would change if Apple hired old computer guys from the trenches: keypad on this model probably not as cool as that on the more expensive model; a black model would cost so much to offer for the same price; the display okay but again probably not as cool as the 1250 dollar model of the same machine with the aluminum case and backlit screen. Which has a smaller carbon footprint--polycarbonate or aluminum? Who knows. It seems tough and probably won't dent.
If you want good guts, though, and aren't a fashion conscious poser, then this is the box for you. Take the 3 or 4 hundred dollar savings and buy some extra goodies--bluetooth mouse, case, and some software plus upgrades and you will be much happier.
If you want a gamer, go upscale or get a high-end PC. I have Fusion on my MacMini and the Vista package only gets used about once a month. I may try the boot camp routine on this laptop if Windows 7 is worth anything, then again, by then I may be totally brainwashed and have only Linux and OS X.? Ubuntu sure has come a long way.
The price schedule could be improved for Apple products but then again, sometimes even a used Lexus is a better deal than a new Chevy.
I give it 4.5 stars. Good luck and enjoy your Macbook.
P.S. Oh yes, there are lots of good videos, training materials etc to get you from PC to Mac. And one last thing: their delete key is too bizarre: it is really a backspace key, but you can fool it into becoming a PC delete key by holding down the fn key while you use it, then it goes forward like we old PC geeks are used to seeing.
I am very impressed with the service I got from Amazon I'll be a long time customer!!
1. The bottom edge of the MacBook is quite sharp unlike that of the iBook, which was smoothly rounded. When you rest your palms on it it to use the trackpad, it is not at all comfortable.
2. The high gloss screen may be nice, but if you are using the computer seated in a chair with a reading light behind you, there is an annoying glare.
3. I have had trouble with uncontrolled scrolling, the thing fairly frequently takes off wildly on its own. I never had this problem with the iBook; perhaps it's only a flaw in my particular MacBook.
4. I have a problem with AppleWorks freezing frequently, although it unfreezes if you press "save". Nevertheless, I never had this occur with the iBook.
5. Lastly, one might expect the MacBook to load faster than the iBook. Sorry, it just doesn't; if anything it loads a trifle slower. This is perhaps a reason for buying the more expensive model.
These complaints are not major and there are so many advantageous features to the MacBook, including price, that I nevertheless strongly recommend it. --By the way I encourage the user to try the really great speech feature; let your Mac read a book to you from Text Edit or from the Adobe Acrobat Reader. (You can download free practically every classic you can think of from ) I am totally in love with the Vicki MacInTalk synthetic voice!

My first Apple was an Apple II Plus way back in 1980. Those five hundred dollar each 5.25 drives still haunt me. Then came 1985 and I switched to Microsoft and sold my box of Apple stuff. Since then I have been a Windows user both personally and professionally, finishing up a third career as a systems person managing hundreds of installations, servers etc etc. Upon retirement (who else has three laptops and five desktops running Linux, XP, Vista, and now OS X) I began to dabble once again in the Apple world. I have been a long time Windows user and have switched to Apple Leopard. I finally got so fed up with the Vista operating system that I ordered a Mac Book from Amazon. I received the package on time, the ordering process was painless just a few clicks. I got a newest version of this laptop. Not really knowing what to expect from this little laptop, I was pleasantly surprised that the learning curve is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I am very impressed with the way this laptop works, it is fast, it looks fantastics, and oh, my God, it turns on quicker. I have had Vista for a long time and sometimes I had to sit and wait for the operating system to start up (as long as 12 minutes timed). This one is ready to go in about 30 seconds, got to love it.I am very impressed with the service I got from Amazon I'll be a long time customer!!

It hardly needs to be said that Apple computers are superior and, consequently, one expects a great deal from them. The MacBook is certainly a significant upgrade from its predecessors. As compared to the iBook, it is physically a great improvement, thinner, lighter even, despite the wide screen, nifty magnetic power attachment, better catch, more solid keyboard, and there are numerous software features itemized in the product description and other reviews. However, I should like to point out several flaws in the MacBook, which, though not serious, are important enough for me to rate the product with only four stars, even though I love it and think it's great. Cheap S56CA Intel Core I7-3517U 1.9GHz 15.6" 4GB DDR3 SDRAM 500GB HDD W7P
I ordered for the S56CA after working with a lower version; the UX31A I refer to as the Asus i5. The lower version could compete very well with the MacBook Air I bought at the same time. So when we needed a new computer in the office I naturally went for the higher version. The speed is fine but I was surprised with how basic the S56CA is. To start with since I joined the Mac family I had got used to back lit key boards and since the Asus i5 had it, I assumed that the i7 will have it. No it does not come with it. To make matters worse, the CAPS Lock does not light up when you are using it. Imagine checking every time you use it to make sure that you are in caps. I knew that there are still makes that miss out on such features but they do not cost this much. My story ends rather badly. The colleague who would have used the i7 rejected it on the basis of the absence of a backlit key board. So I gave away my more user friendly i5. Of course, if I was living in the States, I would have traded back the i7 for the i5 just to enjoy a lighting key board and keys.

Discount QX410-S01
This laptop is perfect,the screen is bright and crisp,the aluminum body is durable and lightweight,you never really hear the fans ramp up.This computer never really gets hot even after long use running multiple apps and programs. The mouse pad took a little getting use to it,but after you get the hang of it,it's pretty nice to use.The keyboard in my opinion is awesome,the "island" style(spacing between keys) keyboard feels very nice to use,and the keys aren't too hard or too soft,they're just right.

Review of HP Biscotti 17.3" G72-259WM Laptop PC with Intel Pentium T4500
We were not sure about purchasing a refurbished laptop, but with my husband using it on deployments it was imperative he have one AND that we not spend a fortune just in case.

I had my HP for about 2 weeks before it broke. I took it to best buy and they told me the dc port wouldnt charge. It wouldn't turn back on at all. Thank goodness I didn't have anything important on it. I am currently sending it back to the company for a refund.Thursday, April 24, 2014

Didn't buy it here. Aside from being a little on the heavy side and having a really touchy mouse pad this computer is pretty good. Fast processor, nice screen and keyboard. Took it with me on vacation and had no problem connecting to WiFi any where it was available. Windows 8 is terrible but that's not the fault of the computer, would recomend Lenovo over Dell anyday. Have not had to contact Tech support for anything yet so that remains to be seen.

We used this for 7 weeks, one day we closed it and walked down some stairs, went to open it and it never woke up. Went to remove the battery and found there is no access door. Called Toshiba, must return to them for service.....
Bad deal, you need access to the battery to completely remove the power.didnt realize it wasnt touch screen but love it, very easy key pad n great screen easy to navigate, alot like my tablet

I bought this laptop for my wife 3 weeks ago. In that time we have had a chance to try it out. I agree with most of the other reviews as far as most of the features of this unit. The only problem we have is in the speaker. It comes with only one speaker which you cannot hear. I called Acer service and was told by someone in India, that there is no cure for the problem. He said because there is only one speaker, there is low volume. It is a shame because the rest of the unit works so well. I purchased this laptop about a month ago. Very fast and quiet operation. The screen is vibrant & very clear. Great price for this system.It acts and feels like a $900 piece.Acer does an awesome job,LOVE their products.I plugged my nastolgic Juster 660 HIFI 3-d speakers and viola,great instant surround.The 1 stereo speaker is small yet audible&stereo.I do wish it had 2,however,just for convenience.DVD multi is great as is the webcam and it's options.Deleting some chub programs made it even quicker. I would recommend this computer for anyone who wishes to own a computer with a number pad, low cost, and fairly good insides. The down side is the lack of a battery life. This is over come by the prepossessing power, and number pad in my opinion. my first laptop...works well with internet(mainly wat i got it 4). the built in wifi is great 2(tried it at the library,mcdonalds, n arbys,free of course.works best wen inside of building, but does work outside too). it is a dual core, wouldnt get anything less. it would b 2 slow(cpubenchmark 4 research). jus luv the portability n great lookin laptop overall! love the price 2. jus wish i couldve gotten it cheaper like the other peeps that reviewed this laptop. 1 thing i didnt like nothing major of course, jus prefer vista over 7. overall great laptop, get u 1! This is the fifth laptop I've ever had (in the past 10 years) and it's definitely the best one. First of all, it's very lightweight: 3.8 lb with battery (the battery is built-in). The design is something between Macbook Air and Macbook Pro but without those horrible sharp edges, which you could even use to slice bread! Although it's a sleekbook, it comes with all the ports you need: you get three USB 3.0, one Ethernet port, one card reader, and finally one HDMI (I never liked that Thunderbolt port in Macbook Air and some Dell ultrabooks since they are not compatible with most TVs and projectors).
I compared the screen picture quality with Dell XP 13 Ultrabook and Macbook Air 13: it's much better than Dell XPS but slightly worse than Macbook Air (it seems that Apple laptops still have the best screens in the market). By the way, remember that this is 14" (not 14.3" or 14.6") so don't expect the screen to be very larger than Macbook Air 13.3" screen. The keyboard and touchpad are simply as awesome as Macbook's.
One great thing about this laptop is that (unlike both Dell XPS 13 and Macbook Air 13) it doesn't get very hot. This is probably because it comes with a 4th generation Intel CPU, which is designed to be very energy efficient (this is an energy-star laptop).
Another great thing is the sound quality, which is much better than all laptops I've ever had. However, I haven't been able to hear much bass from the beatsaudio subwoofer. Not sure if the bass comes from the speakers or the subwoofer.
This is a 4G-enabled laptop, which has a SIM slot and comes with a T-Mobile SIM card. A few notes about the 2-year free 4G:
1. The laptop supports HSPA+ connection, which is also called 4G and differs from 4G LTE. You get at most around 5Mbps download speed with HSPA+ and more than 15Mbps with 4G LTE.
2. You get only 200MB of free 4G internet per month and once you reach this limit, you won't be able to use the mobile internet unless you wait for the next month to get 200MB more or buy data from T-Mobile (1GB for $25, 3.5GB for $35, 5GB for $50). If you don't charge your account you won't get even a 2G internet. A a regular user, you probably need at least 1GB of data so plan for at least $25/month if you want to use this mobile internet capability.
The only problem I had with this laptop was that the WiFi connection used to disconnect frequently. However, the good news is that this is a driver issue and you can fix it by simply updating your Intel Centrino 2230 driver to the version 16.1.5 recently released by Intel (see the link at the bottom of this review).
If you are a Windows user, this is probably one of the best lightweight laptops in the market. My actual star rating of this laptop is 4.5 (Amazon doesn't support start fractions!)

Buy Apple 17" MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB / 512 VRAM /200GB ATA
I was skeptical about buy and outdated computer, but even for a 6 year old computer, it is beautiful. Durable housing makes it last longer. The high-res screen is amazing.
I've been using this laptop solidly for 5 years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. It supports all the latest software and runs it well. OS X Mavericks even works on it, and the next OS probably will as well.
Comparing this previous gen MBP to some other brand New PC laptops leaves you with the impression that it's STILL more luxurious, even now. The trackpad, while smaller than brand new MacBooks, is unparalleled in the PC world.
The 17" display was so far ahead of its time, even today you're not likely to find a 22 or 24 inch display that matches the 1920x1200 resolution. This thing was the closest thing to "retina" before "retina" was a thing. And the availability of matte screens is a rare luxury these days and missed.
Once you put an SSD in this thing it's competitive with most entry level new MacBooks on most actual use metrics. This beast came with the larger L2 cache and other higher end underpinnings, so it's stood the test of time extremely well. It's 8600m gt video card was a BEAST when it was released, and remains more powerful than some entry level MacBooks because it's a discrete GPU rather than some chipset. It can also support 6 Gb (Not 4 like Apple says) of ram. 1x4 Gb stick and 1x 2Gb stick.
It's also possible to create a "Fusion Drive" (Which debuted with OSX Mountain Lion) which is a system level SSD HDD drive fusion by switching out the superdrive for a hard drive caddy so you can have SSD speed and HDD large capacity and not worry what goes where.
All in all, this absolute BEAST of a portable workstation is a bygone from an era where Apple made 17" Laptops. They no longer carry any MacBooks in 17 inches, and that's a shame. It really is nice having FULL productivity when mobile.
