The keyboard and speakers are not the best. If you write a lot it is a issue. If this is a travel computer with limited typing its good for the money.

I didn't have any problems getting a hold of this computer. I threw around a few ideas on different models and brands, just researching before I came to a definite conclusion.

I am happy with this purchase, but the page listing the information on this particular model is incorrect. Under 'graphics processor' it is said to have a GeForce GT 540M chip. Which would be a phenominal graphics chip for such a cheap notebook. That is why I had bought this model. ... But after doing some research around the web, everywhere else stated this particular model came with the Intel HD 3000 chip. Surprise, surprise. That's what it came with. (I was hopeful!)

It's not a big deal, either way. I am satisfied with the notebook. It did come used and I did have to uninstall a lot of factory bloatware and such. I also had to remove around 14 viruses. Which I don't mind at all doing. I think it's fun!

All in all... happy with the purchase. Just be weary when buying used notebooks. I lucked here as there is/was nothing seriously wrong. Hardly scratched up at all; runs like news. Blah blah blah.

Plus, ASUS has always been a good brand to me!

We purchased this laptop in 2006 or 2007 when we had dial up and now we still have it and use it as our family's primary computer. Don't get me wrong, we are ready for an upgrade but this computer really lasted us well. We have teenagers and no one is gentle with it. Although I know people complain about Vista, we haven't had any issues with it. You can burn CD's, edit pictures, watch movies, connect it to the TV, all basic things with no issues. Definitely a worthy investment. We did upgrade the memory when we bought it though since it didn't come with much...super easy to install though.

I've owned my Acer Aspire 3680 for three years and I love it!! I've never had any problems whatsoever with any part of it. I'm not a gamer, but I am into Graphic Design. I don't know how well it performs with games, but it has absolutely no problem running any of my Adobe Creative Suite programs which several of my friends complain about taking a while to load on their laptops. I don't use it too much anymore just because I got an Acer Aspire Netbook because it is easier to carry with me to school and traveling. I recommend this computer and all Acer computers to anyone and everyone!!

I admit I had never heard of the ASUS Brand when shopping around for a laptop. I did some research and basically didn't find any bad reviews....especially on this particular model. So I went for it and I'm glad I did. It was a Christmas gift for a family member who basically just wanted something to surf the web with and read emails, watch movies etc... So basically this notebook is overkill for what it will be used for. Anyways,the initial start up was a bit of a pain since it prompts you to back up the OS ( Win 7 premium ) ...which took a couple of hours and 4 DVD-R discs....because it does not include the OS disc....so be sure you have those blanc dvd's handy. So.. Ok we did that and then ...wow..this is a really nice computer! Screen is crystal clear and graphics look pretty much HD. Some people do not like the shiny glass ( it's not that bad ) but we do not find it bothersome at all. This computer is super quiet, no joke...you will hear yourself breathing but not a mutter from this beauty. OK, after a couple of days we were faced with Microsoft updates and plenty of them which includes the service pack 1 which took a while. This is not out of the ordinary on any new laptop, notebook, desktop etc...Basically your machine just needs to catch up to Microsoft since it sat in a box for a bit. We uninstalled the trial version of the anitivirus software and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials...which we have running on our other XP computers. Only thing about MSE is that it would not install correctly in IE8 so we had to download the new IE9...no biggie. There really isn't much bloatware on this system at all...well, the one we bought didn't anyways. So far so good...it's only been a few days but we are happy. We have not done much with any of the installed software so I cannot comment on that. This computer replaced a 10 year old laptop that barely had any life left in it...sooooo, of course anything is better than that !

I have to say this device is pretty amazing... It runs photoshop, the full office suite, and my developer environments (mainly visual studio 2012) with no issues at all.

Its so fast you really don't know its a tablet, the screen and build is just great.. sure, if you are going to use it for a desktop replacement you might want to spring for a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse they are totally usable but a little cramped for heavy use.

p.s. the battery, given the power of this device is really not bad at all its just lasted 4 hours on my lap, developing in one window, while watching a video in another.. all while I sit in bed !

My first impression when I picked up this tiny Ultrabook was WOW!!!!!!

It's so light and fell in love immediately. You pull up on the back of the screen and it pops up into laptop mode. It's really cool. Folks keep coming by just to see it pop open then slide closed. (oooh do it again!)

It's hard to believe that you get a full on Win8 PC in such a tiny package.

Pros:

Light weight + very cool styling

Solid feel: the sliding hinge may raise some eyebrows when you first look at it but I have to say after using it for some time it's rock solid.

The touch screen is stunning at 1080p(IPS). The Win8 tiles are also a breeze to scroll through.

It's really powerful. Much better than my work PC.

Cons:

So why 1 star off? Quite simply, the keyboard is too small to use for every day productivity. If I hooked it up to an external monitor/keyboard everytime I needed to do work it'd be absolutely fine. (can't always do that when traveling)

First of all, I'd like to highlight the quality of service of the supplier. The product was shipped even before the predicted time and was delivered three weeks before the predicted arrival time. In addition to that, it was well wrapped-up. So, great supplier.

The product is amazing: material quality, resolution, weight, and size. You don't compare this product to tablets like iPad, it is way advanced. It is a powerful machine that you can use to develop and do thing within this line. At the same time, you can use it as a normal regular tablet to surf the net.

It comes with a stylus (a pen). A sensitive stylus that would detect the pressure.

You need to get use to the keyboard.

I wanted a thin laptop that was also able to play some games. I am very surprised and happy with what I got.

Pros:

0.8 inch thick (this thing is crazy thin)

A8-4555m quad-core CPU is plenty powerful for everything I have run. Only 5-10% slower than the A10, not worth the upgrade price in my opinion.

Radeon HD 8750m 2GB graphics are fantastic! I have run Skyrim, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3, Borderlands 2 all with 40-60 fps on on med-high detail.

The screen looks great, gets plenty bright, and is a good size.

I have squeezed over 6 hours of battery time on battery saver with low brightness, so it is definitely doable if you are simply tying a document.

Trackpad is responsive and large, keyboard functions well enough. Not the best or worse.

The right click button on the touchpad is a little messed up. It only sometimes works and it sticks a little. The rest of the time it just left clicks.

Furthermore it has the speakers on the bottom of the laptop. (A very poor choice of location in my opinion.) However, sound quality is still good.

Besides those things, it's a good solid laptop.

If you use an external mouse, you'll be fine.

This is by far the best buy for your buck. Throw a solid state drive in and you will cookin with grease. Everything seems to be awesome so far except the wifi car sucks. It only hooks up to 2.3 Ghz wifi stream not a 5 Ghz.

This laptop is just what I expected. not too light, not too heavy. Extremely fast start-up. It arrived on time and doesn't have all the unnecessary pre-loaded apps and programs that are on others. There is only one issue and that is the space bar. If you don't hit it in the "right" spot it does not advance the cursor. Maybe it's just the one I received, but I can see where the Keyboard is slightly raised in the middle and I think that is what the problem is.

ASUS makes quality products and this notebook is a reflection of its quality. The ultrabook is very thin although little heavy (due to glass screen). Connected to my existing router in a snap and after about 30 mins of Windows 8 update it worked flawlessly. The display is crisp though not full HD. The batter life is quite good and I am able to get about 4.5 hours consistently. The touchscreen is very responsive and very user friendly once you get used to it. The performance is very good. I purchased external DVD-RW add on for a small price. Overall an excellent laptop!

I am an information technology professional who relies on ASUS products. This ultrabook runs smoothly, boots up super fast, it has a responsive touch screen and is very light. I had a big and bulky Toshiba Qosmio desktop replacement laptop that weighed about 19 pounds. I gave it to my sister and decided to upgrade to a current laptop. The ASUS VivoBook V500 seemed like the obvious choice for me.

Windows 8 runs super fast on the machine. The 15" HD screen is super sharp and easy on the eyes. The chiclet keyboard is very comfortable for typing.

If you are looking for a nice ultrabook, I recommend you this one.

This is a great notebook! It has an amazing sound and a extremely bright display. I have an older Hp laptop that has a 17" screen. The screen size made it difficult to transport, so buying this 15.6" notebook was a good decision. This Asus also has a fast start up, and is very responsive during multi-tasking. I am still in the learning process for windows8.

I have owned expensive computers before(ie Macbook pro) when I bought this computer I was impressed by its price and usefulness. It is very capable of doing everything other big name laptops do, the screen resolution is impressive, and it is easy to use. No hdmi connection. The computer does anything else that I need it to do. I usually have at least 5 applications or sites open at a time and the speed is just fine. Picture is good. No out of the ordinary problems with the computer.

I have had two other ACERS and they were very good as laptops. I initially liked this computer alot. I like the display, the keyboard and the processor (for daily use) but most I liked the price $299 on sale. A month ago I was told by a salesman at 'Best Buy' that ACER's quality has gone down and that ACER has been having problems with laptop hard drives. Two weeks after he told me that wham the hard drive when out. Thank God that I had 1 week left (1 week what a squeaker) on the 1yr warranty. They replaced it (took over 20 days total turnaround time) and now it is back up and running. Thankfully, I am a zealot for backing up full drive monthly, some files weekly, select files daily. So the hit was minor. That said I can only give this computer an OK because of reliability.

I bought this computer about 9 months ago, and it has been the best buying decision that I have made on a computer. The size is a big factor. It's a 12" computer, but it also has an optical drive (it's optional anyway). So it's small but versatile. You can get it with 80GB, 120GB, and 250GB hard drives, so the expandability is fantastic. Mine is 120 GB Hard Drive. It's got an Intel dual core 1.86 GHz processor, so it's pretty fast for a netbook/ultraportable sized laptop. The new 2540p has a processor that it 2.1 to 2.5 GHz the newer version is much faster, but I've had no issues with mine as it relates to speed. I have 4GB of RAM in mine, but you can expand up to 8GB (which is more than enough). The Processor bus speed is 1066MHz and the RAM bus speed is 800MHz, so not perfectly ideal (matching bus speeds would be better to avoid bottle-necking), but again as it relates to speed... not much of an issue. The screen is FANTASTIC!!! No glare at all, and great resolution! It's no commercial art quality screen, but more than functional. Great for watching movies and television online. The keyboard is HUGE! I can't believe that they fit one this size on an ultraportable! I love it. I will probably buy the upgraded 2540p when this one has had it (but don't expect that to be for a long time). I have MIcrosoft Windows XP on mine (it's faster than Windows Vista and Windows 7), so mine is configured for business functionality and not multimedia ultra-userfriendly. I still think it's great. I LOVE this computer!!!!

Finally, I returned it to J&R Music in NYC today. Thank God, J&R offered 30 days return policy.

J&R tested and found this product defective, so no restock fee charged. During the past 4 weeks, I have experienced the following :

Windows 8 refresh : 3 times

Windows 8 reset : 1 time

Keyboard & Touch pad issue

Frequent random shut-off : this bothered me a lot especially b/c it shuts off all of sudden with no warning.

Asus support wasn't that helpful. If they don't know what to do, it seems they suggest resetting Windows. Personally, I found Windows 8 is not for me. Not very user-friendly, IMO. Now, I will look for better laptop from Lenovo or Toshiba with Windows 7.

This laptop has been a breeze, and I've been using it every day, all day, for a solid six months or so. The only issue is that the touch-pad is a bit sensitive, but if I wanted, I could just bypass it altogether as I use a wireless mouse anyway. It does get annoying though as sometimes, the cursor will jump to another part of the page or text. I really have to keep my palms away from the touchpad for this not to happen. But curiously, its sensitivity seems to come and go, so I'm not sure what that's about.

But other than that, I love it. I know some have had issues with Windows 8, but from a user point of view (not a technology bug POV), most of the time I just bypass it and go to the desktop, which is where the old Windows resides. I don't know why someone would bother to uninstall Windows 8 when your old Windows system is built right into it.

Occasionally, I'll poke around Windows 8 for fun, but as others have said, it's not terribly intuitive. But the solution to that is that you don't have to use it. Just go to "Desktop" and you're in the clear.

Keep in mind that Windows 8 is faster, which is an enormous plus to having it, especially in a machine like this.

With all the problems I've been having with my Epson XP-600 printer, believe me, the Asus K55A-DH51 is awesome. :) (See my product review on the Epson XP-600. I'm on my FOURTH REPLACEMENT, meaning this is my FIFTH UNIT since purchase.)

Kudos, Asus. You've packed a lot of punch into a very well-priced unit. You'd spend a fortune for all these features in a more well-known brand.

I have not had any issues with my Asus laptop. It hasn't locked up, or powered off, and have had no issues with it jumping screens. I would highly recomend Asus, as far as laptops go. I did a lot of research before going with the Asus K55A-DH51 15.6". The graphics are amazing, and it's great for gaming. It's also well made.

I just received this Asus laptop, literally within the past hour, so this review is not on how it works I will give that later. But for those who are in love with the mocha/brown laptops this laptop only appears brown if the sunlight hits it just so. I was torn between brown and a red Asus K55, and I absolutely LOVE my MOCHA Asus Slider Tablet so went with brown, against my daugther's wishes. (The laptop is for me, not her.)

I spent several days researching laptops on amazon and elsewhere, before deciding on this model, which I bought from J&R Cameras and Computers who provided great service and quick delivery. There was an $80 instant rebate at the time and I was able to purchase it for $519. I instantly bought another 4GB memory card as it was highly recommended I get nothing less than 6, with 8 being preferable. I am not a computer geek and rely on my friends who are, but I do use Adobe software products and such for photography and photo editing.

I have had very good experience with Asus customer service and decided to go with the Asus brand again after my HP Pavilion lasted less than 2 yrs before it started having issues with internet which appears to be a common problem from what my husband has learned in trying to resolve the HP issue.

Once I have time to explore this new laptop I will return with an update on satisfaction, other than color.

UPDATE 5/2013 I cannot stand Windows 8. I need to find time to remove it and add on Windows 7. The computer is constantly jumping screens on me. From what I am hearing from others, it is not me, the user, as I figured, but a bug in Windows 8 as many have the same issue. I can't really give a laptop update as I continue to use my old one due to familiarity and ease of use.

I purchased this laptop for my college daugther. It is replacing a 5 year Toshiba laptop that is still going strong, but wanted to upgrade her to a newer CPU model. It's the third Toshiba laptop I've purchased (my other daughter has another 3 year old model). I stuck with Toshiba for the value (features and price), but also because I NEVER had a problem with either of the first two laptops! This one started right up out of the box and has been working fine for 3 weeks, no quirks or problems. I figure if you have luck with a brand, why change. So far our lucky streak is holding up strong. I'll be refreshing the older 5 year old model with Windows 7 and my wife has already laid a claim on it!
