Pros:

good battery life

good build quality

excellent value for it's price

plays mid-range games on low with acceptable frame rates

Cons:

screen is thin feels too thin not that its totally a bad thing

other notes:

bought this laptop for my programming classes at my university, typing on it is pleasant and it's battery life is impressive compared to my last laptop. Held off on a graphics card because I wanted no temptations to game whist in class or studying, but it didn't matter because the HD 4000 is actually a decent integrated solution.

I would recommend this laptop to others because its a excellent value for it's price.

will return feedback in 2 months time.

I bought this slick-looking M5-581T-6490 one month ago. Everything worked fine out of the box.

The first little trouble I ran into is the touch pad keeps doing strange zooming in/zooming out, and the mouse is difficult to control. Turns out the default setting turns on multi-finger functions. After some research, I turned it off. control Panel -> Mouse -> Touchpad, turn off all multi-finger function. After this, the touch pad was at mostt manageable, still not as good as my old laptop.

A few times when I turned on the laptop to use, instead of turning on as expected, it said, "Loading Update 1 of 40." Even AFTER I had selected the option that supposedly allowed me to choose whether or not to install updates. I had to wait about an hour for the updates to finally load, and nothing seemed to have changed or improved.

Then I installed Microsoft office, Acrobat, Visio etc. Suddenly, the laptop took a very long time to boot up the windows, and the mouse was constantly drawing in circles. Word, Visio, also slowed down for no reason. I tried many tips from online, like "disable all programs at startup", "uninstall McAfee", but none helped.

Finally, I spent $35 to have an IT Pro to run diagnostic. Bingo, a Hard Disc defect. Office software happens installed in that sector. The Video card RAM also has defect.

Acer said I can send the unit back, they will fix it, likely replace the hard drive but I will lose ALL installed software license.

The touch pad still bother me a little. I had enough with this unit, and decided to return.

I'm completely satisfied with this laptop. The keyboard is especially comfotable. The only negative comment I have is that all the USB ports are on the back. They would have been better on the side.

Honest reviews on Acer TimelineU M5-581T-6490 15.6-Inch Ultrabook (Silver)

Fast computer overall and fast internet response if compared with my wife's Macbook Pro. The battery life is incredible. The integrated software management features provided by Acer should improve. For example, the sleeping mode works randomly. Sometimes it works sometimes it does not. I constantly have to turn on the computer again (fast booting though). I hope Acer look into this problem and communicate with its customers. Maybe from drivers updates, I don't know. This product would be almost 5 if Acer were more careful to design integrated management features that actually work.

Bought two Acer Timeline M5 laptops a month ago.

Computer number one died with a short circuit on the motherboard after 3 weeks use. Computer smoked briefly and terrible odor.

After an hour and 30 minutes on hold with Acer warranty, given a return number. Computer back in use within 10 days. Acer refuses to tell us a) what burned and b) what chemicals we were exposed to.

Second failure within 24 hours of receiving it back-display died, case too hot to touch (can't remove battery, it's built in!)

Back at Acer for another 10 days lost service.

Computer two has an hdmi port defect, external monitor keeps losing signal. Also, case bottom has so much bow in it rubber feet don't all touch desk and it slides around while you are typing.

We aren't buying anymore Acers. Do you really want one?

11-29 update. computer video failed within 24 hours of return and has been returned for the third time! It took over two weeks, 6 phone calls and over 3 hours on the phone to get a return label this time! This computer has worked for two weeks out of two months! The only thing worse than their product is their customer service

This laptop came in a good condition. Enjoy using it every time. Best Price for a best configuration. The only downside is that the speaker's volume is so low that its hard to hear when watching movies and hearing something. The other downside was that the life of battery has been diminished and so holds charge only for 1.5 hrs.

The only thing i have noticed since having it for a month, the speakers are terrible. You must have external speakers because the sound is very low and poor quality.

This computer is fantastic. It is light, fast, reliable and plays unbelievable quality Blu-Ray discs. I have come to really love Acer as far as I'm concerned it rates better than Sony (I just sold my Sony Vaio because I was so disappointed in it's performance and the customer service has really gone down since the old days when Sony was the one to beat. Now I have this Acer and it is GREAT!!! I can't say enough about it, and to make it even better, the customer service is also GREAT! Webcam is clear and the sound is up there as well, and the battery seems to last a very long time on a charge. I travel a lot and that is very important to me. You won't be sorry with any Acer, but I can personally vouch for this model. I hope this helps you make your decision.

Have been using this system for a couple of weeks now and love it. Great compact design, very thin for a system with a optical drive, and the keyboard is excellent.

Pros Elegant design, slim body, great keyboard + trackpad, Intel architecture, and Dell warranty.

Cons Dell bloatware. I would prefer to see Dell load very clean installs instead of some of the useless software they will load to collect bounties.

We purchased this item for a Christmas gift in Nov 2011 and gave it to my 18 year old son Christmas Day. Since then, we have had 4 major repairs (cursar pad, wifi connection antenea, 2 hard drives!!!!) Warrenty (that I paid extra to get )has been great tech always repairs product but really ...4 major outages. Last one while my son was in the middle of a major college project. All data not backed up was lost. Arghhhhh.

Lets see if Dell makes good on their promise to look into this computer. Could we have a lemon?????

I was looking for a compact and light laptop that I can easily carry around with me and that is capable of handling graphics heavy programs, as I am a graphic designer. Price was also a big consideration. After researching many computers with NVIDIA graphics cards and intel i7 processor like this one, I discovered that besides for being absolutely gorgeous, this computer is the cheapest in its class of light and thin computers that are capable of handling a little more than microsoft office. I have to admit, the looks of this computer definitely appealed to me and may have affected my decision when buying this computer... But i have had it now for about a month and so far I have no complaints.

I got this laptop couple of days ago, and i bought the used type but " like new ". This laptop is beast! very powerful! and it's good for everything and i didn't waste any money, i even saved couple of 100's..At first i was going to buy the Macbook pro 13"..but it had 4gb ram, i5 2.40..so i said why should i buy a macbook pro and waste $500 ? when i can get a better laptop and save half a gran ? so i bought the dell xps 14z and it's really good, fast, easy and light! i'll recommend a person who is thinking of getting a apple laptop, to buy dell xps 14z, it's better ! and you can do everything on this ! from an experience i'm saying this because i have a Macbook 2009, and i couldn't do anything on that.. except school work. But Dell xps i'm playing Guild Wars 2 and its really good !

This is the sleekest, coolest best looking dell laptop I have ever seen. I've owned it now for several weeks (purchased through Costco, not Amazon, for slightly more $). The specs are good. 8GB Ram, 750GB Hdd, i7core, dual core processor with hyperthreading, and a high-end clock rate during burst mode. The screen is fantastic, many more lumans brighter than my other dell laptop (an old m65).

Now why did I pick this PC? Because it is as close to looking like a macbook pro without being a mac. My personal preference for any laptop, is to immediately wipe the OS and put Ubuntu on it. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 with kde-plasma-desktop installed; this computer is behaving like a dream.

A quick comment on the device. It has more holes (aka vents) in it than I would like, but the engineer in me knows that this is Dell Trying to make sure the PC lasts a long time (good ventilation and heat dissipation are crucial). My Wife's Macbook Pro LAPTOP overheats often, sometimes too hot to put in her LAP. My other complaint is that while the laptop screen is well aligned with the base and clearly well attached, I can see that it is mounted .5mm (check a ruler if you can't envision how small that is) further to the right, than to the left. This extremely anal way of looking at the top when closed speaks to why I bought the PC to begin with: I wanted a precision cut and designed metal housing.

I am still giving this 5 stars, because I want Dell and the world to know that there is a class of people out there, who want precision crafted PCs like this, but don't want the inane constraints and cost-overages of a Mac.

I am a computer science student so I am pretty well versed when it comes to computers. I know my hardware, can write operating systems, and am constantly programming. I began searching for laptops because I needed a more powerful one. I play a few games so I also wanted something able to power through some graphics. This laptop has pretty amazing specs, especially for the price. Windows 8 is pretty intuitive once you get used to it, so don't let that defer you from getting this laptop. The operating system that it comes with is 64bit. The quad core amd and radeon graphics card can crunch through just about anything. Plenty of RAM, plus it is up-gradable to 16gigs if you desire. The hard disk is the only thing that can slow some operations down, but at this time solid state is a little too pricey. I would have loved to have a back-lit keyboard, however for the price and specs I wasn't going to let that be the reason I did not buy this laptop. I researched laptops for weeks and this turned up to be the best; and at a very reasonable price. I would most assuredly recommend this laptop.

I've had the computer for a little less than a week, but am very pleased with it. (See below for how to fix the scroll bar problem if you encounter it.)

The display looks great, and it has all the peripherals you could need (including usb 3.0).

It has a separate numerical keypad, which I find great because it's much easier when doing anything involving typing lots of numbers, and even though some complain that having that addition requires the computer to be too big or the other keys too small, that is not the case. At 15.6" it is still a compact enough size and does not weigh much.

The tile keyboard is great (not back lit if that is a concern for you, but the screen provides enough light to see the keys). The sounds is fine, not expecting anything mind blowing from a laptop.

The quad processor is more than capable of handling what you can throw at it, as well is the 8gb of ram installed. It is a computer built to handle heavy gaming, and if you're not into that, then don't worry at all about it having enough power for you. Oh, and the 1tb hard drive makes sure you won't run out of storage space.

The battery life seems fine so far, somewhere around 4 hours.

I'm a big fan of the brushed aluminum. The computer stays cool to the touch and is well suited to stand up to some abuse.

The biggest problem people will have is getting used to Windows 8 if they haven't used it before. Honestly, I was skeptical, but after a day of tinkering around with the start/tile screen to get it to my liking and figuring out the shortcuts (for instance, hovering your mouse in the lower left corner from the desktop screen gives you settings, search, power, and share options; also right clicking on the live tile screen gives you the option to look at all apps, because if you install a program, that is how you will be able to access it and pin it to your taskbar) I am fine with it. Windows 8 is pretty customizable, and that is a plus.

***The only issue I ran into was that the scroll bar did not work on the mouse pad at first. This turned out to be an easy fix though, and if you are having that problem, hopefully you read this before losing your mind.

*All internet advice says to update or uninstall/reinstall the driver. Won't work. It's not a driver issue. The problem is that the scrolling simply was not enabled.

*Simply show the hidden icons on the desktop task bar, and double click on the Synaptics pointing device icon.

*Go to the Device Settings tab --> click Settings... --> check the Scrolling box (not done yet though, so keep reading) --> the next step is to click Scrolling so that it is higlighted, then click on the settings button (looks like 2 gears) --> check 'Enable Vertical Scrolling' and 'Enable Horizontal Scrolling'.

make sure that you hit okay and apply on every screen, and that's it. Told you it was simple.

That was my only complaint about the computer, and once I fixed it I have absolutely none. It is a great computer from a great brand and you will be very pleased if you get it.

It's all about the A10 Vision powering this thing. Right now, this is AMD's most powerful mobile APU. But with the A10, you need to know what you are getting: a chipset with a lot of graphic power for the price, but one that cannot come close to competing with Intel in computing power.

So, if you want a cheap gaming laptop (meaning integrated and not discrete graphics), an A10-powered laptop is your best choice. You can toss darn near any game that leans more on the GPU and not the CPU at this thing, and it will do just fine. The Intel HD3000 and HD4000 graphics cannot compare. But if you need something that puts a heavy burden on the CPU, you need to look at Intel. I specifically wanted a cheap gaming laptop, and combined with the decent sound and 8GB of memory on this model, I got exactly what I wanted.

So why only three stars? Simple: fit and finish, the devil's in the details. Although the Chiclet keyboard on this laptop is supposed to be better than the even cheaper A6/A8 Toshiba models (which I've owned), it isn't, and it doesn't help that the left shift key on the laptop I got is flaky. I hate the spacing of the two USB 3.0 ports; they're right up where right-handed mouse users are going to be working, so if you've got a big USB stick coming out of thing it's going to get in the way. The A10 runs hotter than the earlier A6's I've owned. I'll even gripe about the button that pops out the DVD tray; it's practically flush with the unit and unresponsive to all but the most enthusiastic presses.

But otherwise: look, I wouldn't have picked this thing up for the retail of $600+ (I'd have soldiered along with my earlier A6 Toshiba, which for $400 was a great bargain), but Amazon knocked it down to a little under $500, so I'm happy with it. If you go with this laptop, know its strengths (best integrated graphics in the market) and weaknesses (pure CPU power).

One final thing: Windows 8 is terrible. Fortunately, Toshiba still has the full complement of Windows 7 drivers on its site, so with an evening's work you can scrub Win8 off the thing and get Windows 7 on there.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite S855D-S5148 15.6-Inch Laptop (Ice Blue Brushed

I see a lot of other reviews here that do a good job of pointing out the pros and cons of this laptop, so I'll try not to duplicate them.

I received the laptop yesterday, and I'm totally thrilled with the features and performance!!

I'm pleasantly surprised by how cool the laptop runs and the feel of the keyboard. It does a fantastic job of venting the heat out the side of the laptop you can sit this comfortably on your lap for hours. The keyboard is soft and responsive very comfortable to type on and even includes a dedicated numeric keypad (which I tend to use frequently). Normally when I use a laptop, I'll plug in a USB keyboard when I need to do some number-crunching. I don't need one on the Toshiba.

At this price, I expected some things to be skimped on. Toshiba really didn't cut any corners, this is a quality laptop. Even the tiniest details, such as having USB ports on both sides of the laptop.

I'm not thrilled with Windows 8, but that's not Toshiba's fault. First thing I did after going through the initial setup was to install Classic Shell, a free application that gives you the look and feel of Windows 7. That takes care of most of the complaints I have with Windows 8, but it's easy to accidentally bring up the Windows 8 shell. Eventually, Microsoft plans on releasing Windows 8.1, which is supposed to give you the option of a Windows 7 shell. I'm hoping that's a free upgrade from Windows 8.

I don't like the touchpad mouse much, but I haven't met a touchpad I like. It's no worse than any other laptop, I just don't like them. I'll likely get a trackball to plug in for when I'm sitting at a desk.

The webcam and sound are excellent for videoconferencing, and fairly good for music playback and watching movies. It would be hard to find much better sound on a laptop, but I prefer more bass for music and movies, so I plug in headphones for media playback. Conveniently, the headphone and microphone jacks are located at the very front of the right side of the laptop.

Given the performance, the design quality and the price, you really can't go wrong with this laptop.

Ordered this Toshiba laptop from Amazon on Tuesday and received it the next afternoon in full and perfect condition (as usual, thanks Amazon!). Only into my 3rd day, but must say I like this laptop (expected) and Windows 8 (surprised about that).

Start/set-up was automatic, fast and easy. After getting up and running Norton did inform me of a new video driver and provided the link to the AMD site to download. It installed without issue. Windows didn't pick up my wireless printer, which I had to manually install through port selection. I decided to try the 1 month trial of Office365 and activated that as well. This laptop is fast and the display is bright, sharp, and with good color. I tried viewing some Netflix movies and the picture has no bleeding or flicker, and the sound from the speakers is much better than expected. I'm not a gamer, but this processor/graphics system is fast, and the provided 8 GB of RAM insures it doesn't bog down. Excellent performance for this price point. Note: I paid $499 but see the price does rise and fall...

I took a few minutes to register with Toshiba and received their free e-copy of Windows 8 for Dummies, which is useful. This is my first time touching Windows 8 so I must admit it took a little while to understand what was going on, and why. After several hours (about six altogether) I felt acclimated and had things pretty well set up.

I hated Windows 8 for about four of those six hours, now I like it a lot. First, I learned the start screen niceties adding/removing Apps, pinning websites, arranging tiles, screen (and edge of screen) geography, opening/closing files. Also how to access the control panel and standard desktop workspace. Two other things that helped with using Windows8 a lot were downloading the "Cheat Keys and Tips" App that gives you a lot of information on shortcuts and commands, and going to the Synaptics touchpad set-up in Control Panel, and learning how it's features allow you to use the touchpad as a surrogate to a touchscreen.

The laptop itself feels solid and well put together, and it runs cool and quiet I do have two items of concern: 1) the mouse-pad buttons are near identical to my last Toshiba laptop and I'm not convinced they're mechanically durable the left button on my last system became loose underneath on the left side and would misalign the entire button. 2) the "piano black" bezel around the screen is flimsy and cheap looking and appears to be snapped in place with plastic pop rivets.

Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this purchase. I feel this laptop offers great bang for the buck in a package that's overall very nicely put together and easy to use. I'm an older guy, and was able to learn Windows 8 fairly easily and with minimal cursing. Now I quite like it and feel it's quite similar to using my Android and Apple smartphones.

Before this laptop, I had a DV6 laptop I recieved as a present, 4 years ago. Unfortunately that laptop suffered major overheating issues which cause frequent freezes, and friend my sound card last year, and eventually made me unable to start my laptop up, about a month ago.

Ever since last summer when I first laid my eyes upon the black cherry dv6-3019wm at a walmart, I just knew I had to purchase it. It was like love first at sight. I loved the color, and the overall design. 2 weeks ago, I finally purchased it via ebay, and I am satisfied!

Specs wise, its enough to meet my standards. 500GB is more than enough harddrive space for me.The processor and graphics card are alright. 4GB RAM and 2.8GHZ dual core processor, makes it blazing fast at multi-tasking with programs and watching videos, especially with lots of tabs open on an internet browser. The graphics card is 4250 Radeon Its not a gaming laptop by any means, and it probably can't handle very graphic intensive and advanced 3D video editing programs well, but it gets the job done with most of the basic stuff. I tried canyourunit.com, and I found out that I could play starcraft 2 at minimum/low settings at best (but not recommended settings), but I couldn't play call of duty black ops (though I could play the previous call of duty games) due to the processor not being good enough apparently. From what I've heard, this laptop is as good as an entry level i3 330 laptop in terms of processor performance. It comes at a very good price though, and I'm surprised it comes with 4GB of RAM and 500GB harddrive size. It also has some shortcut keys to instantly access the internet, printer, or calculator. It took some time at first to get used to, because I'm used to the CTRL button to be on the left most part of the keyboard.

Really, the only other cons I can list of, is that the touchpad takes some time getting used to. Its a multi touch track pad that lets you zoom in and out and scroll pages up and down with certain motions. What annoys me though is that the multi-touch features can occasionally interfere when I simply want to use it for the pointer. I'd highly recommend just buying a wireless mouse and using that instead. Luckily, you can turn off the touch pad, by double taping on the white circle on the top left of the touchpad.

Finally, if you're considering on purchasing this laptop, you should know that the battery life lasts about 3 hours with wifi on.

Overall

Pros

+Very sleek sexy design

+Keypad is incredibly comfortable. Great buttons!

+4GB RAM and 500GB harddrive space is more than enough for most people's needs

+processor and graphics cards (along with the 4 GB RAM)gets most of the basic multitasking jobs done. Can web browse and watch HD videos at ease.

+great price

+fairly quiet and doesn't overheat easily

+relatively portable due to its somewhat thin design and its weight of 5.5lbs.

Cons

-multi-track touchpad gets some getting used to, and can interfere with regular use of the mouse pointer. It can be turned off though. I recommend purchasing a wireless mouse.

-Not a gaming laptop, or one that demands a lot of graphical power (such as advanced 3D editing software) by any means. You won't be able to play some of the latest high end popular PC games at recommended and higher settings due to limitations from graphics card and processor

-battery life is around 3hrs MAX, with wifi on. I'm fine with this for the most part, since I'm not going to take it with me everywhere I go, but its annoying that the manufacturers never listed the battery life on any site with the rest of tech specs. I guess I can see why?

Overall, if you're looking for a laptop for general use (web browsing, watching videos, etc), it will be more than enough to handle most software. If you're a gamer looking to play games like Call of Duty Black Ops, or Starcraft 2 under recommended or higher settings, or using 3D editing software that uses lots of processing power and demands a lot, graphically, consider looking for computers with i5 or i7 processors and a graphics card that is at least ATI HD Radeon 5000 and up (w/ 1GB?).

Great general use laptop overall!

4.5/5 for my overall needs

I got this laptop for college. It's has a 15.6 inch screen and the display is beautiful!

I thought it would be a bit bulky and heavy, but it's not. I mean, it's not the MOST portable,

but it's perfect for me. 5 pounds isn't a lot for such a powerful PC. The quick access keys are

great. It was weird having them on the keyboard, but I adjusted just fine. The keyboard is comfortable

& responsive. The trackpad gets a little funky at times, but overall it's not bad. Oh & I love the HP

Mediasmart gallery and the quick access to Pandora radio. The webcam is one of my favorite features.

It has so many fun features! I'm on the laptop now and it's great! I LOVE this laptop!

First an annoyance the fan frequently cycles on and off even though it sits on a table top in an air-conditioned room. I did modify the bios setting, because it was running all the time, which made it better.

The computer is exactly what it was advertised to be and that is why I rate it three stars. I bought the dual-core because I do a lot of Adobe Elements processing of pictures. I expected more processing speed over the single processor Desktop so I guess I'll move to a Quad processor someday. Also, picture editing brings the fan to life.

The screen is the best feature. It is large, clear, and bright. The keyboard is adequate but I miss having a large one. I find the touchpad too cumbersome so I added a mouse. The wireless connection capability works well although I like to use my wired connection when sitting at the table. I generally have three USB ports in use for an external disk drive, mouse, camera. I have not used the SATA or HDMI plug. The speakers are not high quality but I use headphones anyway.

I ordered this laptop on 2/19 and anxiously awaited it's arrival. Got it today and am extremely pleased with it so far. It worked great with the wireless connection at work and now, after a phone call to my ISP, it works great with my satellite internet here at home. It arrived in great condition with only a few smudges that I'm sure a man left on it! LOL Gotta get a carrying case and some kind of mouse for playing my games. Great deal, great computer!!!

3 months later, I love it more than ever!! It puts the computers at work to shame!!! I would highly recommend the product and the seller!!

I bought this computer from Speedy Mobile and it just arrived yesterday (12/7/12). So far everything works just fine and it is fast. I have had a couple of freezes but I think that is my own fault. I will create a follow up review in a couple weeks. Overall I am very happy with this computer

[UPDATE]

This computer is still running very good. It is still as fast it was when I got it. I do all my college homework and I have all of music on it. The speakers are amazing for laptop speakers. The best part about this laptop is that I have not had to upgrade or fix anything in it. I would highly recomend this laptop to anyone that needs a fast, cheap and reliable laptop.

This is my new work laptop. I'm a software engineer, so I'm typing all day. I'm coming from a MacBook Pro. The keyboard and trackpad on the X1 Carbon are simply the best; even better than my old ThinkPads. The laptop is thin and light, yet feels very sturdy. The screen is beautiful. I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 on it, and it works quite well. I can get 5 hours of JavaScript development out of the battery pretty easily.

I ordered 2 of these for my family . I am not a laptop fan but these surprised me with great monitors and power usage(reset the power to "Power saver") on battery and good to go.

It is a bang for the price. Holds charge for 4-5 hours in ms office or 3-4 hours watching hd movie. Design is nice and laptop is thinner when i thought. New core-i3 is enough for all my task (which exclude gaming). Speakers are on average loudness and quality level. Has an USB 3.0 port, although not tested this yet. Package is minimalistic but it is okay for me. Keyboard is nice, wi-fi have a good reception. Have one glitch with Autocad and internal video drivers.

Good budget laptop low probook status, half aluminum half plastic great screen, keyboard tho sometimes glitchy requiring a reboot. wi-fi sucks older samsung laptop next to me gets solid strength when i get crap. battery lasts a long time multi tasking. over all pros outweight its cons and is a good buy on a budget spend the extra $45 at crucial to get 8G of ram total

There are so many problems with this piece of junk I do not even know where to begin. HP customer told me "there are many problems with this computer you will need to reinstall the operating system" another day of my life gone dealing with this piece of crap. Plan on waiting for anything and everything SO SLOW IT IS UNREAL!

Honest reviews on Probook 4430S 14" I3-2310M

I really disliked this laptop when I first got it. It was so different than the larger laptop I was used to. It's difficult at first to type on because the touch pad is extremely sensitive. You can turn the touchpad off and use a regular mouse by double tapping the top left corner of the touchpad. However, that feature wasn't working for me until recently. There are music controls that allow you to turn the volume up, down, and mute. There is also video controls (forward, play pause, rewind)You do have to hold down the FN button located next to the CTRL button on the left at the same time to use these controls. I also like the internet button located next to the wifi button at the top, it opens your default browser when pressed. Another plus is that this laptop doesn't have flat keys that will easily pop off. After 2 months of using this laptop It became easier to use. I chose this over my larger laptop because it's more convenient to move around and use. The battery doesn't last very long, just about 2 hours for me. I use it for music, email, facebook, and online classes. If you need a laptop that will have a good battery life (for traveling) I wouldn't recommend this one. Also, I had some compatibility issues with a game (Sims2) but the game still ran fast and with some adjustments it was fine. It's worth looking into the video card before buying if you play a lot of games. For basic home use it is great, I only use this laptop now. I would buy another one if I needed to. It takes some time to get used to but overall it is a good little laptop to have around.

I originally wanted to get a Mac, but I did not want to spend as much as I would have had to in order to buy one. I feel like this is a nice low-cost alternative. I have been using this laptop for about the past 6 months, and it has held up very well! I feel like the design is very sleek. I also like that the LCD screen as opposed to all of the other laptops on the market that have glossy screens (which are AWFUL with smudges and glare). The MS Office suite and STATA run very well on the laptop, and I never have any problems attending online classes/conference calls through Adobe Pro Connect, Skype and other communication applications. I also ordered this item from Circuit City through Amazon; I chose the normal free shipping option, and my package arrived within only 2-3 days! Overall, I would highly recommend this product!

I needed a new laptop after the hard drive on my 3 year old Dell laptop crashed a few months ago. Because I am a college student, I wanted a smaller computer to carry around campus or use comfortably outside of my room. The 14'' screen is a widescreen and is excellent for viewing pictures, videos, and movies. My old computer had a 15.5'' screen. I prefer a larger screen, but the bigger the screen, oftentimes, the heavier the laptop. This computer weighs about 5 lbs with the battery (without it, it is obviously much lighter), but it feels like it weighs much less. The keyboard is also a good size and the keys are not raised, so food, dust, and hair are less likely to get caught in the keyboard. I own this computer in black and the photos are true to real life. Orginally, I wanted this laptop in white, but decided against that because it would get dirty very quickly. The computer uses Windows 7. My old one had Vista, so I'm still getting used to Windows 7's new features. I've had this for almost a week and it is very easy to use.

PROS:

Screen size

Keyboard

Memory (4GB included. Very fast! I can listen to music, be on the Internet, and run other programs without the computer slowing down)

Hard Drive (640GB is more than enough space for me and the overall price is great.)

Weight

CONS:

The lid is not fingerprint proof. Even in black, fingerprints are still visble. Not a big deal to me.

The mouse is a little unrespnsive at times and the touchpad isn't very smooth. Not a deal breaker, however.

No recovery software included.

*Make sure to backup your files often on an external hard drive or CDs and make a recovery disc (instructions are provided). The computer does not have any discs containing the OS software or recovery information. *

I purchased this laptop for $499.00 at PC Richard. It was the last one they had and was originally $699.00 and marked down so I said I can't beat this price anywhere for this model so I purchased it. I like the look, even though it is all plastic and I am not a fan of all plastic laptops I still think it is one of the best constructed ones I've seen. The ASUS are pretty good too. The keyboard is nice with the chicklet style which is pretty popular these days. The keyboard is attractive and I like the laptops simplicity in design. Vaios are always know for being pretty cool looking. I upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB and now this thing is blazing fast. It gets a Windows Experience Index of 4.7 overall within which is based on the lowest score which is the graphics but the rating says it can use up to 1.6 GB of video memory which is pretty good. The Processing speed is at 6.7, and the RAM is 7.2, so overall this laptop is fast for the price you pay. I don't care too much for Home Premium Edition but at least it comes with 64bit. I may redo the hard drive with Windows Ultimate 64bit version. Here is my list of pros and cons...

Pros: Good processor speed, works fast with 4GB and 8GB RAM, Good stylish design, HD graphics, Good screen resolution, nice keyboard, expansion slots, 4 usb ports, DVD RW, good battery life.

Cons: Touchpad can be quirky at times, Windows home premium---would prefer Pro or Ultimate, plastic. Changed to Windows 7 Ultimate...it was well worth it.

Overall, I am glad I bought it. It satisfies me, and works well for what I do. I mainly do word processing, video, and browsing the net. Not really into laptop gaming, I've got a desktop for that and the Sony PS3.

Thanks

I think this computer is really not that bad! Considering I bought mine at Best Buy for $320.00 and it runs very smooth! I to have issues with the mouse pad, but once I plug in my travel mouse which I prefer anyway everything is fine! I installed Norton 360 and have not had any issues with performance. Great laptop for the price considering most Sony's are astronomical. Thanks Sony for making a nice laptop at an affordable price.

I've had my laptop (pink) for about 5 months and its working great! I love the white keyboard which makes it so much easier to see the letters on the keyboard. I love the 14" size, I would never buy anything else. All in all I have had no bad issues with it.

Well what can I say this computer is amazing its light it looks great and it's not too expensive the cons are windows 8 the touchpad isn't that great i mean it's usable but if your going to be clicking it a lot like in games or some thing it would be better to get a separate mouse. Also it gets finger prints really easy but the pros are tht it's cheap really thin also I bought the version with the a8 and I was getting 75+ FPS so in the end this pc is AMAZING

I bought 2 of these as gifts for my children for Christmas. They arrived quickly and were in good shape. I appreciated the help I received when I called the company asking for a referral to what laptop would be appropriate. The man I spoke to took the time to help me.

I bought this Laptop D630, 14.1 inches, because I needed a small computer to take on my trips. It worked for about one week, then it gouldn't turn on! Also, it was creating so much heat coming out from the CPU heat sink. Since I'm a technician, I made some repair on it, chainging 3 SMD Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors (Aluminum body devices located around the heat sink) and replacing the CPU heat sink thermal grease, applying new "Arctic Silver 5 3.5G Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Grease Compound" to CPU Heat Sink. Now it works fine again.

Honest reviews on Dell Latitude D630 14.1" Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I purchased a refurbished Dell Lattitude D630 from Tampa in July of 2012. It came very quickly and I was pleased that the computer was better than advertised. It came with windows 7, a larger hard drive and a RW DVD drive all of which were not part of the deal. After making the mistake of installing McAfee (which caused all sorts of conflicts)and then uninstalling it and restoring the computer, all was great. Then in the early days of September, a bizarre problem occured where the display starting tiling in two columns miniature images of the desktop. Occasionally, it would boot up correctly but not often. The folks at Tampa happily replaced the computer for me but saved the hard drive from the defective unit which saved me hours of rebuilding the unit. And did this exchange in a week. Top marks for these folks!

I bought this inexpensive laptop from Tampa Laptops thinking i was getting a great deal on a Christmas gift for my 7 year old . the computer works and had fresh install of XP pro. the wifi has shut itself down a few times and has required a reboot, that is a little annoying. i purchased this d630 that was listed as 'refurbished' and 'great condition' for $5 more than the 'used' one in 'good condition' thinking they would give me the pick of the litter, i would hate to see the 'used' one. there are a few buttons that the letters are half gone and the computer itself is filthy. i would expect this computer had i chose the 'used' d630. as a refurb in 'great condition' i expect every component to be 'like new' and gone through and cleaned, not just a fresh install of the operating system. what do you get with the used one? do you get someone's old virus riddled pos? had i known that i would have just bought the used one for 5 bucks less and refurb it myself. what a joke. also seller stated item would ship with in 2 days, it took 3 not a big deal. item was to be shipped ups and came usps in a destroyed box. buyer beware
