Best Acer Aspire V3-771-33118G75Makk 17.3' LED Notebook - Intel Core i3 Deals
This computer has exceeded my expectations; especially for the price. I did a lot of research on computers with similiar specs; and I could not find even a similiar computer at this price with all the qualities this Acer offered. The Acer Aspire is very user friendly, with a big screen...fast processing speed. The whole package is worth it!The Main Title says Windows 8 The operating system in the details says Windows 7 which is what I wanted. Looks like 8 though

Cheap ASUS X53SD-RS51 15.6" Laptop (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5-2450M
A textured and comfortable finish is on the lid. The keyboard is laid out with set-in keys and is can be easily cleaned. The keyboard boasts an IceCool palm rest, and does help keep the keyboard from becoming uncomfortably warm. The fan must be impressive, as it only becomes a bit warm during heavy gaming. The screen supports 720p HD, but not the full 1080p. However, there is an HDMI port that can be used to connect to a full 1080p TV to fix that. Overall, a very sturdy computer.
However, the speakers are not that great, and I recommend purchasing separate speakers.
A hybrid of NVIDIA and INTEL processors, this computer can run high-end computer smoothly at high settings. I tested the gaming capabilities on Amnesia the Dark Descent, and it ran almost completely high settings, though it SSAO should be set to medium to prevent lagging issues. It can also run Dead Space 1 and 2 at their highest settings with no hiccups. It may lag with Anti-Aliasing enabled, though older games like Half-Life 2 do not suffer from enabling it at the highest AA settings. It also runs PCSX2 games pretty well, and at the highest of 2x Native resolution without lag. However, enabling the hardware anti-aliasing causes slight slowdown (5-10 frames at the lowest AA setting) at 2x resolution and a few garbage graphics appear.
IMPORTANT: The 750 hard drive is divided into two partitions, one that hold the OS and general files (279 GB) and one that holds general files called DATA (394 GB, I suggest using DATA for heavy-duty files like music, videos, and games). REMEMBER: programs like iTunes and gaming services need to be in the same partition as the music and game files they will be using. I tried placing all the music files into the DATA hard drive and using iTunes's, which was in OS partition, directory settings to try to pick them up from the DATA partition. It didn't detect them for some reason.
Also, there is the NVIDIA settings program that junctions the NVIDIA processor to certain programs. Choosing the automatic option will just allow the program to choose between running a program with the high performance, but battery-draining, NVIDIA processor, or the slower integrated processor. I suggest leaving most to auto, but programs that run games should be set to high as a default for a considerably more enjoyable experience. Just right-click either the game or the service that runs it and the NVIDIA settings tab should be under the drop-down menu. Find and add the program to the given list and set it to the high processor and not the integrated option.
Among the flaws I could find were the brightness and color settings (it can be quite bright), but just use the color management program to calibrate the screen and/or use the Intel HD Graphics settings to set brightness, contrast, and color profiles. Also, there is some bloatware that Asus leaves behind, but a few are important, like LifeFrame, which is vital for webcam adjustments; research each carefully. Also, the mouse can be a bit touchy sometimes, and you might want to buy a separate USB mouse.

+ Unit runs as coolly as promised. It doesn't even heat my lap up if I use it in bed.
+ The keyboard is well insulated against debris and sturdy.
Things that annoy me:
THe keyboard is AWFUL to type on. You have to hit the keys pretty hard, especially the space bar and enter.
The touchpad is way too sensitive. If I let any part of my hand hover over (NOT touch just hover over) the touchpad while typing then my cursor will move and I'll be typing in a different place. This is becoming more annoying by the day.
THe power settings reset themselves in both operating systems. I set them to maximize performance and not turn off the computer so I can download large files while I sleep and the next time I turn the computer on, the settings are back the way they were.
Pre-installed software(not a complete list):
The off brand PDF reader is very good, I almost un-installed it, but really like it now that I've given it a chance.
Office Starter already installed, you do have to go online and buy a license though
Trend Micro already installed, but you have to buy a license to keep it or uninstall it if you want to use different anti-virus software.
This is a great machine, but the keyboard and touchpad are such a nuisance, I would buy a different laptop if I had it to do it over.
UPDATE 2/16/13: Even though this has been my "house computer" rarely leaving it's place on the desk, the hard drive crashed last week and I had to replace it. I suppose it's still under warranty, so I could have sent it in for repair but I can't live without my computer for that long. I purchased a new hard drive and installed Windows 8 and it's working fine but very annoying that the hard drive failed so quickly. Also, the Windows 8 doesn't have any vendor software on it, so the machine runs faster now.
However, the speakers are not that great, and I recommend purchasing separate speakers.

Best Toshiba Black Satellite 15.6" C655D-S5202 Dual Core 2GB RAM 250GB Deals
I purchased this Laptop in August from a major retailer and paid about $275 brand new. Its a good laptop for performing basic websurfing tasks and viewing pictures and videos. Nothing special no bells and whistles and not much to shout about. At a price of $275 this is to be expected...you get what you pay for and I knew this when I bought it. However keep in mind that the RAM, even though it comes stock at 2GB, is upgradeable up to 8GB. And RAM is honestly not that expensive or difficult to upgrade and boosts your memory, speed, and performance for less than $50 if your computer savvy or know a friend who is. You can also upgrade the graphics for less than $100 depending on if you really want a gaming machine or just to view a couple videos and the occasional game now and then. You can also upgrade the processor, but I would recommend a professional repair technician to handle changing out the CPU but upgrading from the stock 1 GHz Dual Core to a triple or quad core 2.5 GHz or greater would be worth it for the power and performance you could get, but thats up to you. Depending on what you are looking for, you can upgrade this laptop for alot less than buying a top notch performance system, and get at least equivelent performance. This is why I purchased this laptop to begin with...I plan on making those upgrades in the near future. Only issue Ive had is the LCD screen got a snowy red haze that showed up against certain colors, and found out that it was the screen itself going bad. But an LCD screen costs about $60 for the part, and I got a high gloss anti-glare finish replacement screen which shows color contrast better and shows up better in high light environments...so im happy and problem solved. Its a good starting point laptop to upgrade or for a kid starting out.

The Toshiba came with some software that I could apply to my network. I am using this laptop only as a media center and it was so easy to incorperate in my network. I recommand anything Toshiba. As a reseller, I always look for the best and with great pricing. Would have liked a 500G HDrive but for the money, you can't do any better. Reviews of Lenovo Y550P 324156U 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
After using Macs exclusively for 3 years, I switched back to Windows because of one reason: I wanted a quad core laptop (i7 specifically) and Apple has yet to make one. Furthermore, I know that when they do it will only be offered at first on the highest end of the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro models and will likely cost between $1800-$2200. When this laptop went on sale for $999.99, I knew I could no longer justify staying with Apple because $999.99 just happens to be the price of their lowest end laptop. For $999.99 (PC vs Mac) you can get processor quad core vs. dual core, HD 500GB vs 250GB, Ram 4GB vs 2GB, max ram 8GB vs 4GB, LCD 13.3" vs 15.6", and internal graphics of 256MB shared vs 1GB discrete. To me this is no contest. I was able to switch my Adobe programs over to PC by calling Adobe customer service and performing a cross platform swap. I needed to update my MS Office suite anyway so I didn't mind spending $170 to get MS Office Home/Student 2007 plus Outlook 2007. I will describe my experience with the Lenovo through a Pro/Con list, and I will compare the Apple and PC experience where necessary.
Pros:
*i7 quad-core laptop for $999.99
*i7 quad-core = very, very fast
*1GB discrete graphics will satisfy every need except only the highest of professional/gaming graphics processing needs.
*looks very nice and seems well-built
*4GB of ram is enough for now and the option to expand to 8GB later is great
*ExpressCard 34, eSATA and SD card slots are most welcome
Cons:
*fan is audible a good bit of the time, and most of the time during even moderate application usage. I was aware of this issue with quad-core laptops prior to purchase so it did not come as a surprise, but at the same time I do think it belongs on the con list
*terrible sound output quality and volume from the built-in speakers
*terrible sound output quality and volume as well as crackling/popping while using external speakers, so terrible that I had to buy a Creative XFI Expresscard Sound Card (which did, incidentally, fix all of the audio issues)
*audio out jack located on the front of the laptop (I know this is all too common on today's laptops but it is annoying nonetheless; the Creative XFI card also solved this issue)
*occasional high pitch whine (the source of which is still under investigation) which can be quite annoying
*location of the cooling fan inlet vent means that you will not be able to use this on your lap or on top of a bedspread unless you first put a hard flat object under the laptop first; the laptop essentially is designed to only be placed on hard flat surfaces
*no DVI, mini-DVI or mini-DisplayPort ports; HDMI and VGA (VGA?!?!?!?!) are the only video ports
*the built-in trackpad experience is truly atrocious: the trackpad has a raised grid surface (instead of a flat smooth surface like 99% of the laptops made) which makes navigation uncomfortable and imprecise. In addition, the scrolling bar is laughably unusable. It is made for hands with fingers the size of baby's fingers and using it requires tapping down once first to turn it on; one can not simply move their fingers over it to scroll
*battery life is terrible, but I knew this going in because all quad-core laptops have terrible battery life as a result of their power-hungry processors. You will not get the 4.5 hours of battery life as advertised, trust me. I don't know how they were able to achieve that number but virtually everything must have been disabled and/or turned all the way down.\
*a moderate amount of bloatware which I am still deleting/tinkering with after a week of ownership
*built-in LCD not particularly stunning but I find nothing objectionable about it either
*would have liked to get Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate considering this is a high-end laptop but I did know prior to purchase of course that I was only getting Windows 7 Home
*hard drive came partitioned into 4 parts which is very, very annoying. In addition a few of them took up massive amounts of hard drive space for no apparent reason. It took me a few days of messing around with various freeware utilities to get all (but the essential) of them deleted. (hint: check out the free "Ultimate Boot CD" it is what finally got rid of the pesky partitions that Windows disk utility wouldn't let me touch)
In my opinion, this is your basic garden-variety "desktop replacement" laptop. With an external keyboard, mouse and monitor this makes a great desktop that can sometimes be carried out of the home when need be. I find the "laptop only" experience to be sub-par. This is perfectly suitable for someone like me since my laptops have always spent over 95% of their time at home plugged into external I/O devices. If you are someone who is just the opposite, however, I can not recommended this unit because of the issues described above. Overall, I am satisfied with the unit primarily due to the performance specs and the price. There is just no arguing with the value of an i7 laptop with 1GB discrete graphics for $999.99. The length of the con list, however, was sufficient to cause me to drop the rating to 4/5.
Pros: Overall I'm very satisfied with this product, but not crazy impressed. I had reservations about the y550p because of its lackluster screen resolution and supposedly poor build quality. Honestly though, I haven't noticed any issues with these things. The screen is bright and clear, the colors look good and from what I can tell the computer seems sturdy enough (though I don't get very mobile with it). The keyboard is also pretty good, I wasn't eager to switch over from Mac's pebble key design, but this keyboard is springy, responsive, and well-spaced. As far as looks go this Lenovo is slick. Not as slim as a Mac would be but still fairly compact and its coloring and hood design are fairly unique without looking cheap. It will definitely attract some fingerprints, but it won't drive you crazy like an iPhone will. Other than that the i7 processor is quick as expected (I have never fully taxed the system)and windows 7 is awesome.
Cons: The battery life on this computer is beyond terrible. Even with bluetooth turned off and the screen dimmed I have never been able to last longer than an hour and 20 minutes on a charge while just surfing the internet. I find this annoying even when I bring my computer from my desk to the living room couch and it starts beeping (warning indicator) right away, so I can't imagine how this would fair on the road or in an airport. The trackpad is also awful and whatever you assume "multi-touch" to mean just forget about it. YOU WILL NEED TO BUY A SEPARATE MOUSE. The pad area is small and unresponsive and the multi-touch gestures work maybe half the time. Unexpectedly, the webcam is also pretty bad (fuzzy, choppy, the works)and I was very disappointed that Lenovo seemed to cut back the spending in this area. I purchased a 720p Microsoft Lifecam for $50 from Amazon and this cleaned up the issue, but still I was hoping for something integrated. The fan is also pretty loud even when the computer is idle and the USB ports are few (2) and oddly placed on the right hand side of the computer so if you have something plugged into that port AND are using a mouse WATCH OUT.
Besides that there are a few issues which may or may not apply to you. MY IPHONE WILL NOT SYNC CORRECTLY WITH THIS COMPUTER. I wasted hours on the phone with Apple tech support and apparently there is a known compatibility issue with itunes and the mother board on this computer...VERY ANNOYING. It will eventually work, but only after maybe 20 (literally) failed attempts and computer restarts. Are you planning on upgrading the hard drive on this computer? I was, but I was told (after hours on the phone with Lenovo) that my computer was too new to be compatible with the Western Digital 320 GB 7200 rpm hard drive I had purchased and that MAYBE WD would issue the proper drivers ONE DAY. I had to return it and was so fed up I decided to just stick with the sloooooow 5000 rpm hard drive that came with this computer. On the bright side though, Lenovo technical support was very helpful, friendly, and most importantly their reps were native English speakers which is HUGE.
-The keyboard is a nice size. It feels nice, and types well.
-The LED lights look sweet and the little ideapad logo is really neat
-The sound on this thing is nice it has a subwoofer which is noticable when tested against my fiancee's MacBook Pro that is broken and basically plays sound far too loud.
-The screen is bright and easy to read
-The computer can run, illustrator, photoshop, world of warcraft and google chrome with no slow down.
-Great at running any application or game with the processor
-The graphics card helps with games my games look excellent
-Lots of storage 500 GB I've only used maybe 200 GB , a good portion of that photos.
-Windows 7 is great. I have little to no problems with it.
-The computer is light and is carried easily in a backpack (I'm 5'2")
-I love the orange accents
-HDMI port yes!
-Not a loud fan. I heard others complain about this but I don't see it at all. Not when I have an airplane launching in the MacBook Pro that always sits next to me.
Neutral (But more good than bad)
-It doesn't get hot if it does it's only on the left side and the fan really kicks in to push the air out.
-The slide bar nav is a cool idea, but I never use it. I set it up, but I just use that taskbar.
Cons:
-Why is there a key to basically erase your harddrive? I immediately disabled that.
-You have to spend about an hour deleting stupid software in the beginning which takes a bit because some of it you might end up needing.... (Like drivers for the camera)
-Trackpad is a bit funky I have the Razer Orochi bluetooth mouse and rarely use the trackpad
-Only 2 USB ports never been a problem but may be for some
Pretty awful battery life, but I always plug in. Get a bigger battery if you need this to last more than 2 hours.
-I hate where the power button is. How I use my laptop, I have accidentally pressed it in the middle of the game when moving about 3 times and shut the computer off and lost my game no!
Overall, this is one of my favorite laptops. It is built well, looks nice, and runs like a dream. Mostly, it runs like a dream. The cons don't really bother me nothing is falling apart, etc etc.
This is a great computer for 999. You can't beat a core i7 processor for that price!

PROs: I almost NEVER hear the fan...and I never hear a high-pitched whine...and my sound output quality is easily the best I have heard on a laptop (go into control panel and turn on WavesMaxx Audio in Realtek HD Audio Manager...triples the volume and really gives it a lush sound)...maybe the other reviewer got a lemon that gave the opposite report on all those things. Laptop runs cool. The best "feel" for any keyboard I have EVER used. Yes, the trackpad has a slightly textured surface, but I got used to it after about a day and now consider it the best I have used and very responsive (another reviewer said that 99% of laptops have a smooth trackpad...where was that statistic obtained, ha!). It has 3 USB hubs...one is a combo eSata on the left-hand side, in a very convenient spot. Not sure what these other people are doing, or how they have adjusted their settings, but I consistently get 2:45-3 hours of battery life doing internet and light office app. work (on a moderate power-saving mode). The partitioning of the hard drives is really pretty simplistic and I am not sure why anyone would blow a gasket over that. This machine edits HD Video like a champion and runs Adobe CS4, PowerDirector Ultra, and Video Studio Pro X3 with ease. The photo/video editing software also initializes VERY quickly compared to other computers I have used. The computer itself boots up in under a minute and shuts down in just a few seconds...so quickly I actually did a double-take the first few times I turned it off (My Vaio...I sometimes walked around the houes doing other things for a few mintues to give it time to boot down)! The laptop is pretty light considering the power under the hood...it doesn't feel as durable as some others, maybe, but I still wouldn't hesitate to travel with it. I ran the PC Pitstop scanner on the computer and it rated almost EVERY FACET of the computer in the top 1% of all computers (CPU, GPU, RAM, HD Size, 3D Graphics, etc, etc)...the only thing it marked down was the HD Speed for being 5400rpm (still top 25% though). Windows experience index = 7.0 / 7.3 / 6.4 / 6.4 / and 5.9. Power cord is probably a good 12-18" longer than others I have used, which I find to be a good thing. Slidebar and Veriface are interesting, but I just uninstalled them...not really my thing.
CONs: A little bloatware, easily removed in a couple of hours or less (and way less than my Sony Vaio had). Stopped connecting to internet first day...Lenovo walked me through correcting a Win7 conflict error...had me up and going again in minutes. Left trackpad button sticks a little. It took me a little time to get used to the width of the screen.
Recap: I really don't think you can go wrong with this laptop. You get a really decent graphics card, a powerful CPU, lots of storage, a beautiful screen...so much bang for the buck (I bought for $999). Get it and I seriously doubt you will regret it.
After 9 days I got it back with a new hard drive, all my software and files gone, and still only 1 working USB port. When it works, it works fine, but this is the very last Lenovo I will ever buy.

You will not get the 4.5 hours of battery life as advertised, trust me. I don't know how they were able to achieve that number but virtually everything must have been disabled and/or turned all the way down.\

It took me a few days of messing around with various freeware utilities to get all (but the essential) of them deleted. (hint: check out the free "Ultimate Boot CD" it is what finally got rid of the pesky partitions that Windows disk utility wouldn't let me touch)
In my opinion, this is your basic garden-variety "desktop replacement" laptop. With an external keyboard, mouse and monitor this makes a great desktop that can sometimes be carried out of the home when need be. I find the "laptop only" experience to be sub-par. This is perfectly suitable for someone like me since my laptops have always spent over 95% of their time at home plugged into external I/O devices. If you are someone who is just the opposite, however, I can not recommended this unit because of the issues described above. Overall, I am satisfied with the unit primarily due to the performance specs and the price. There is just no arguing with the value of an i7 laptop with 1GB discrete graphics for $999.99. The length of the con list, however, was sufficient to cause me to drop the rating to 4/5.

Like one of the other reviewers I also am switching to this Lenovo after having a Mac for nearly 3 years. The main reason for my switch was that I wanted an i7 processor and a 1GB dedicated graphics card which Mac just doesn't offer at any price...the huge bonus here is that this computer only cost $1,000!Pros: Overall I'm very satisfied with this product, but not crazy impressed. I had reservations about the y550p because of its lackluster screen resolution and supposedly poor build quality. Honestly though, I haven't noticed any issues with these things. The screen is bright and clear, the colors look good and from what I can tell the computer seems sturdy enough (though I don't get very mobile with it). The keyboard is also pretty good, I wasn't eager to switch over from Mac's pebble key design, but this keyboard is springy, responsive, and well-spaced. As far as looks go this Lenovo is slick. Not as slim as a Mac would be but still fairly compact and its coloring and hood design are fairly unique without looking cheap. It will definitely attract some fingerprints, but it won't drive you crazy like an iPhone will. Other than that the i7 processor is quick as expected (I have never fully taxed the system)and windows 7 is awesome.
Cons: The battery life on this computer is beyond terrible. Even with bluetooth turned off and the screen dimmed I have never been able to last longer than an hour and 20 minutes on a charge while just surfing the internet. I find this annoying even when I bring my computer from my desk to the living room couch and it starts beeping (warning indicator) right away, so I can't imagine how this would fair on the road or in an airport. The trackpad is also awful and whatever you assume "multi-touch" to mean just forget about it. YOU WILL NEED TO BUY A SEPARATE MOUSE. The pad area is small and unresponsive and the multi-touch gestures work maybe half the time. Unexpectedly, the webcam is also pretty bad (fuzzy, choppy, the works)and I was very disappointed that Lenovo seemed to cut back the spending in this area. I purchased a 720p Microsoft Lifecam for $50 from Amazon and this cleaned up the issue, but still I was hoping for something integrated. The fan is also pretty loud even when the computer is idle and the USB ports are few (2) and oddly placed on the right hand side of the computer so if you have something plugged into that port AND are using a mouse WATCH OUT.
Besides that there are a few issues which may or may not apply to you. MY IPHONE WILL NOT SYNC CORRECTLY WITH THIS COMPUTER. I wasted hours on the phone with Apple tech support and apparently there is a known compatibility issue with itunes and the mother board on this computer...VERY ANNOYING. It will eventually work, but only after maybe 20 (literally) failed attempts and computer restarts. Are you planning on upgrading the hard drive on this computer? I was, but I was told (after hours on the phone with Lenovo) that my computer was too new to be compatible with the Western Digital 320 GB 7200 rpm hard drive I had purchased and that MAYBE WD would issue the proper drivers ONE DAY. I had to return it and was so fed up I decided to just stick with the sloooooow 5000 rpm hard drive that came with this computer. On the bright side though, Lenovo technical support was very helpful, friendly, and most importantly their reps were native English speakers which is HUGE.

-Trackpad is a bit funky I have the Razer Orochi bluetooth mouse and rarely use the trackpad

Pretty awful battery life, but I always plug in. Get a bigger battery if you need this to last more than 2 hours.
-I hate where the power button is. How I use my laptop, I have accidentally pressed it in the middle of the game when moving about 3 times and shut the computer off and lost my game no!
Overall, this is one of my favorite laptops. It is built well, looks nice, and runs like a dream. Mostly, it runs like a dream. The cons don't really bother me nothing is falling apart, etc etc.

This laptop is amazing.PROs: I almost NEVER hear the fan...and I never hear a high-pitched whine...and my sound output quality is easily the best I have heard on a laptop (go into control panel and turn on WavesMaxx Audio in Realtek HD Audio Manager...triples the volume and really gives it a lush sound)...maybe the other reviewer got a lemon that gave the opposite report on all those things. Laptop runs cool. The best "feel" for any keyboard I have EVER used. Yes, the trackpad has a slightly textured surface, but I got used to it after about a day and now consider it the best I have used and very responsive (another reviewer said that 99% of laptops have a smooth trackpad...where was that statistic obtained, ha!). It has 3 USB hubs...one is a combo eSata on the left-hand side, in a very convenient spot. Not sure what these other people are doing, or how they have adjusted their settings, but I consistently get 2:45-3 hours of battery life doing internet and light office app. work (on a moderate power-saving mode). The partitioning of the hard drives is really pretty simplistic and I am not sure why anyone would blow a gasket over that. This machine edits HD Video like a champion and runs Adobe CS4, PowerDirector Ultra, and Video Studio Pro X3 with ease. The photo/video editing software also initializes VERY quickly compared to other computers I have used. The computer itself boots up in under a minute and shuts down in just a few seconds...so quickly I actually did a double-take the first few times I turned it off (My Vaio...I sometimes walked around the houes doing other things for a few mintues to give it time to boot down)! The laptop is pretty light considering the power under the hood...it doesn't feel as durable as some others, maybe, but I still wouldn't hesitate to travel with it. I ran the PC Pitstop scanner on the computer and it rated almost EVERY FACET of the computer in the top 1% of all computers (CPU, GPU, RAM, HD Size, 3D Graphics, etc, etc)...the only thing it marked down was the HD Speed for being 5400rpm (still top 25% though). Windows experience index = 7.0 / 7.3 / 6.4 / 6.4 / and 5.9. Power cord is probably a good 12-18" longer than others I have used, which I find to be a good thing. Slidebar and Veriface are interesting, but I just uninstalled them...not really my thing.
CONs: A little bloatware, easily removed in a couple of hours or less (and way less than my Sony Vaio had). Stopped connecting to internet first day...Lenovo walked me through correcting a Win7 conflict error...had me up and going again in minutes. Left trackpad button sticks a little. It took me a little time to get used to the width of the screen.
Recap: I really don't think you can go wrong with this laptop. You get a really decent graphics card, a powerful CPU, lots of storage, a beautiful screen...so much bang for the buck (I bought for $999). Get it and I seriously doubt you will regret it.

4 months after purchasing this computer, for my work, 2 things were malfunctioning. The hard drive was toast and one of the USB ports was not working (as there are only 2 and I use a USB mouse and USB laptop cooler this became a problem). I sent it in for servicing after talking to tech support and included a note with an arrow highlighting the bad USB port.After 9 days I got it back with a new hard drive, all my software and files gone, and still only 1 working USB port. When it works, it works fine, but this is the very last Lenovo I will ever buy.

Review of HP ProBook 4545s 15.6" Inch Notebook PC, AMD Dual-Core A6-4400M
Purchased this 4545s ProBook at TigerDirect, $500, using Amazon for their gurarantee's 12/25/12.
Bought because: value for the money, non-gloss screen, both Windows 7 pro and Windows 8 operating systems included.
Works well.
Spent some time uninstalling the not needed "extras" HP supplied. Going to have to talk with Microsoft about product key because there is no COA on this machine.
One irritating point: touchpad was a bit centered for tapping. You have to tap more toward the center of the pad than other laptops. I "fixed" this by uninstalling the HP touchpad software. It becomes "normal". If you want the two finger stuff, go over to Synaptics and get the latest download.
Will report back when/if there is anything more to report.
Purchased it for my Freshmen College student. She is thrilled, as are the rest of the family. The only problem is it Doesn't seem to Come Pre Loaded with Office 2010 as described. So now I must spend additional money that I wasnt prepared to spend.
Aside from that. The silver finish is sharp. The audio is OK. I Was looking for anti Glare & this display is excellent IMO. We have owned several Laptops but this is our 1st HP. So far the kids have played DVD's, CD's, downloaded their favorite music and Skyped. Everything working perfectly. The Camera was awesome.
Only have it up and running for a little over a day but so far no complaints. At a sub $500 purchase price. This seems to be an excellent choice for my New College student. Just wish it came with Office 2010 as described.
EDITED REVIEW 08/10/13. Well after being so excited over this laptop. The bottom dropped out. Hard drive crashed within a week. Went thru the drill with HP tech only to be told to send it back to where I purchased it. Tigerdirect was terrific during the return process.
I decide to re-purchase the same computer. Two cant be bad! No not two in a row. 2nd laptop arrived lightning fast. Turned on the computer and it seemed to respond perfectly. Unfortunately over the next day or so. All the same problems began to arise.
The DVD slot had 2 be forced open. It took longer and longer 2 boot up.(up to several minutes) None of the USB ports were recognized. The speed of the computer slowed to a snails pace. Over and over it Constantly loaded upgrades. Something went wrong every time we booted it up. Spent another hr with HP tech going thru the drills. Guess what? Same thing! Hard Drive NG. The HP tech told me 2 send it back 2 the store.
Sent 2nd unit back. Again Tigerdirect.com was terrific but Im finished with this HP 4545s ProBook. Price was right. Specs were right. Didnt work. So disappointed.

Great laptop and Tigerdirect is a great company. They are responsive if there is an issue and want you to get your product and this product is great. Fast loading, good screen resolution. Not sure about the camera yet as I haven't tried it. The touchpad isn't that great though. Get a mouse. That is my only complaint though. I love this computer. It has so many little extras such as a fingerprint log in. So cool. I have had no problems with it at all. It runs fast and the fan is not loud at all like on my other lap top. Not being a technologically advanced person, I knew I wanted to snatch up a Windows 7 before it is too late. But, I thought I also might want update this computer to Windows 8 at a later date. This computer offered both and I thought that would be a nice option. I will never load Windows 8 on this computer. I now know you have to have a touch screen to make Windows 8 user-friendly. This computer does not have that. This is a large computer in my opinion. It has a large screen and keyboard and is pretty heavy. It also has a great heat sink. I run various distributions of linux, and windows 7 64-bit on it. All work flawlessly. I have never had a problem with it. Also great for watching movies and playing some of the less resource intensive 3D shooters out there like Half-Life2 or Quake4.

I own one of these machines, and I love it! I have had mine for a year. These things are built like a tank. I've owned other ASUS components in the past for my desktops, so this is the first full-featured product I own from them, and I am not disappointed.I use this machine almost everyday. Reviews of Asus TAICHI 21 Black Notebook Computer
As always Asus does it again. This is so amazing. I would recommend this company to buy it from and as the product is always the best and the warranty can not be matched or beat. It doubles, its a laptop, no wait, its a tablet, no wait, its both. It is a must for business oriented or trainers or for just using it daily use. It covers everyone. Did I mention. I love Asus. It is very fast. Easily connect via Wi-Fi or with the included Ethernet connector. Running windows 8. Two partitions which are extremely hard to even fill up one. Included also is the mini hdmi to hdmi. The included touch pen doubles as a two button mouse. Two year warranty is excellent. The first year anything accidental is covered(liquid, shock, fire or drops). The second year is the normal parts and labor being covered. There is so many things that are truly amazing with this product that I would run out of room if I continue I will run out of space. All I can say is buy it. You will not regret it.

Discount Acer Aspire V3-551-8469 15.6-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black)
"Long and dark, shiny and black ... open up your engines, let `em roar, tearin' up the highway like a big old dinosaur!" said Springsteen about Cadillac Ranch, and the same could be said of this four hundred dollar laptop from Acer. I got it as a desktop replacement to run Windows 8 as well as indie PC games, and I think it's going to work out fine.
It's a big, heavy, shiny black plastic thing, portable but not light. Hinges and latch move well. The screen is bright and sharp, with adequate but not great viewing angles. I wouldn't mind watching a movie on this screen, but it would be difficult to share it with someone else given these viewing angles. I suppose you could consider this a privacy feature. The chiclet style keyboard has full size keys with good tactile feedback and an intelligent layout. The full-size number keys are particularly welcome. I wish it were backlit but that's something for a higher-end machine. Functions such as media playback, volume control, and brightness control require two hands -one to press the function key on the left side, and another to press the desired action. Not optimal but fair enough considering the price.
There's a webcam with microphone and a "Dolby Home Theater" speaker grille up front, both of which work as expected. The large trackpad is off center with the screen but lines up nicely with the keyboard, and is responsive to touch. The trackpad buttons are easy to hit with your thumbs. Up front is an SD card slot, which SHOT THE COVER ACROSS THE ROOM when I tapped it to eject it. Be careful with your photos when loading them onto this machine!
Ports on the left side of the machine: Power (where it should be, near the recessed power button), gigabit ethernet, a large exhaust vent, a full size VGA port, HDMI out, USB 3.0, microphone, and headphone jacks. Ports on the right side: Kensington security slot (I wonder about its usefulness given the plasticy feel of the machine), a pop-out DVD tray, and two USB 2.0 slots, unfortunately right where a right-handed person would want to use a plug-in mouse.
Wifi-N is superfast, the 500GB hard drive speed is a bit pokey but acceptable, system boot speed is quick, and graphics performance is wonderful for the price. A8 Vision from AMD is considered the budget gamer card of choice, and it does not disappoint. I threw every 3D game from my Steam collection at it, and the only title that required me to turn down the graphical detail was Star Wars: The Old Republic, and then only down halfway while running at full resolution.
The system ships with Windows 8, which is a mixed bag -check the reviews elsewhere for that. It's as schizophrenic as they say, but it's probably going to get better with software updates. The Acer suite of pre-installed software is innocuous and easy to remove.
Verdict? If you want an inexpensive laptop that can play games and run Windows 8, this is certainly worth a look.
UPDATE: I've added some new hardware to this machine. It's no longer a four hundred dollar laptop, but know this: the machine can take 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM (despite the manufacturer saying it maxes out at 8GB), which bumps the Windows memory rating up to 7. Add a solid state hard drive and the storage i/o rating goes up to 8. Both upgrades, especially the SSD, really make this machine /sing/.
UPDATE #2: The Wifi driver is inexplicably set to power down by default, which explains the unreliability some people have reported. Solving this problem requires you to simply uncheck the box in the wireless network interface Properties pane.
Right off the bat I should say that I upgraded to 8 GB of RAM. There are two RAM slots and you can throw up to two 8gb SODIMMs in this thing for a total of 16gb if you'd like. Although, I would recommend just 8gb. If you want to optimize your graphics performance (which uses the system RAM) spend a little extra and get memory clocked at 1600mhz. I always recommend G.Skill memory products and after installing 8gb of it into this laptop, (for gaming) I jumped an entire preset up in most games, sometimes two presets. I mention this right away because I want to make it clear that upgrading the RAM in this machine will make it shine.
The included HDD is 5400rpm. It's passable, but will slow down loading for larger programs where a lot of data is involved like Photoshop, video editing software, and games. I wouldn't necessarily recommend an upgrade to an SSD unless you want to put up the cash for a high capacity drive. I'd stay away from 7200 rpm HDDs unless you want to cut your battery by 20% or if battery capacity isn't important to you.
Speaking of battery life, It's alright. It's average for it's class, getting around 4 hours on a full charge more if you conserve with no audio, video, or heavy use. Less if you are doing any gaming while not plugged in. Keep screen brightness down for best results.
The keyboard is fine. It's comfortable to type on and the trackpad is well positioned and sized. My only gripe with input devices is the keyboard not being backlit. The numberpad is a nice touch also.
The screen, while average resolution, is pretty nice. Color reproduction isn't very good (for all you artists), however text is very readable and the display generally looks great in most lighting conditions. The viewing angles are just okay, but some may consider that a positive for privacy.
The speakers are above average for laptops in this class, however nothing amazing. The sound is clear and gets fairly loud. However, as is a problem with most laptops, bass is almost non-existent.
Enough ports to get the job done, and USB 3.0 is a nice touch, albeit a little anemic at a single port.
Windows 8 is okay. I'm sure that it will only get better with time, but I've encountered many bugs with the OS so far that have almost made me switch to 7. After getting them fixed though, I'm pleased with how the OS works. The learning curve can be steep if you're used to 7 and not prone to picking things up quickly. Microsoft took 8 out of the oven before it was done, but it's really close to being a great operating system.
A quick note on upgrading. Everything is easily accessible via a removable hatch under the unit towards the front. Good call, Acer.
The processor, while not as powerful per core as a lowly Sandy Bridge Core i3, is actually quite speedy with four cores and "turbo core". I've had no bottlenecks with everyday use and gaming. The only situation where the AMD silicon has let me down is multimedia editing. Photo and video editing is clearly this CPUs shortcoming. While not terrible, the i3 outclasses it by at least 10% under full load. The Intel architecture is simply better and more efficient. Don't let this hold you back from purchasing this if you're on the cusp however. I, myself, am a photographer and use have used this in the field on numerous occasions to great effect.

For you gamers on a budget, this is a great buy! But, you should manage your expectations. This is a laptop. The hardware is specifically designed to work with a 1366x786 res screen. If you plan on hooking this up to a 1080p display, remember you might need to back off on the post processing a bit. While I don't have specific benchmarks as I couldn't get my license of FRAPS to play nice with Windows 8, here are a few games and basic presets this machine is capable of with the specified RAM upgrade: Fallout 3 High (Barely Playable on Ultra) , SW:TOR Medium , Skyrim High , Borderlands 2 Medium , Saint Row/Third High , Portal 2 MAX.

I was hesitant about Windows 8, but she loves it! We're learning through trial and error what programs work with Windows 8 (LibreOffice won't install, yet OpenOffice will).
Still, a real good laptop.
The laptop itself is very functional, looks great (but is a fingerprint magnet), and so far has no heat issues. Everything works as it should, software installs and uninstalls without a hitch, and there doesn't appear to be an overabundance of bloatware pre-installed. The first couple of hours, as usual, were uninstalling all the "free" junk, setting up his user account, syncing with apps I already had from G Play and Amazon that were compatible, getting a good AV, virtual disk and network/file explorer installed, a media suite (we have a media server for all the household devices and as it has to be cross-platform, no PC will natively be able to play the files), set up his email and online accounts, and he was off to the races.
It is all plastic, so time will tell if will hold up, but at this price point, we're not expecting a tank. Have not found any "quirks" like a few of our other laptops have had (Toshiba in particular), and so far, it is reasonably fast, runs like a little top, and is remarkably unremarkable in that it just does what you want it to do without any quibbling. I don't know what else one could ask for without spending a LOT more. Retina? No. Server? No. Tournament FPS gaming rig? Not quite. But for a student/gamer/netizen/app junky on a budget? Perfect.
It's a big, heavy, shiny black plastic thing, portable but not light. Hinges and latch move well. The screen is bright and sharp, with adequate but not great viewing angles. I wouldn't mind watching a movie on this screen, but it would be difficult to share it with someone else given these viewing angles. I suppose you could consider this a privacy feature. The chiclet style keyboard has full size keys with good tactile feedback and an intelligent layout. The full-size number keys are particularly welcome. I wish it were backlit but that's something for a higher-end machine. Functions such as media playback, volume control, and brightness control require two hands -one to press the function key on the left side, and another to press the desired action. Not optimal but fair enough considering the price.
There's a webcam with microphone and a "Dolby Home Theater" speaker grille up front, both of which work as expected. The large trackpad is off center with the screen but lines up nicely with the keyboard, and is responsive to touch. The trackpad buttons are easy to hit with your thumbs. Up front is an SD card slot, which SHOT THE COVER ACROSS THE ROOM when I tapped it to eject it. Be careful with your photos when loading them onto this machine!
Ports on the left side of the machine: Power (where it should be, near the recessed power button), gigabit ethernet, a large exhaust vent, a full size VGA port, HDMI out, USB 3.0, microphone, and headphone jacks. Ports on the right side: Kensington security slot (I wonder about its usefulness given the plasticy feel of the machine), a pop-out DVD tray, and two USB 2.0 slots, unfortunately right where a right-handed person would want to use a plug-in mouse.
Wifi-N is superfast, the 500GB hard drive speed is a bit pokey but acceptable, system boot speed is quick, and graphics performance is wonderful for the price. A8 Vision from AMD is considered the budget gamer card of choice, and it does not disappoint. I threw every 3D game from my Steam collection at it, and the only title that required me to turn down the graphical detail was Star Wars: The Old Republic, and then only down halfway while running at full resolution.
The system ships with Windows 8, which is a mixed bag -check the reviews elsewhere for that. It's as schizophrenic as they say, but it's probably going to get better with software updates. The Acer suite of pre-installed software is innocuous and easy to remove.
Verdict? If you want an inexpensive laptop that can play games and run Windows 8, this is certainly worth a look.
UPDATE: I've added some new hardware to this machine. It's no longer a four hundred dollar laptop, but know this: the machine can take 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM (despite the manufacturer saying it maxes out at 8GB), which bumps the Windows memory rating up to 7. Add a solid state hard drive and the storage i/o rating goes up to 8. Both upgrades, especially the SSD, really make this machine /sing/.
UPDATE #2: The Wifi driver is inexplicably set to power down by default, which explains the unreliability some people have reported. Solving this problem requires you to simply uncheck the box in the wireless network interface Properties pane.

I've spent a few days with this laptop and I absolutely love it. Though it has shortcomings, the outstanding price/performance far outweighs them. I could throw a slew of benchmarks at you that I've done on this laptop, however, that would do little to represent real world performance. I'll try and keep this as short as I can.Right off the bat I should say that I upgraded to 8 GB of RAM. There are two RAM slots and you can throw up to two 8gb SODIMMs in this thing for a total of 16gb if you'd like. Although, I would recommend just 8gb. If you want to optimize your graphics performance (which uses the system RAM) spend a little extra and get memory clocked at 1600mhz. I always recommend G.Skill memory products and after installing 8gb of it into this laptop, (for gaming) I jumped an entire preset up in most games, sometimes two presets. I mention this right away because I want to make it clear that upgrading the RAM in this machine will make it shine.
The included HDD is 5400rpm. It's passable, but will slow down loading for larger programs where a lot of data is involved like Photoshop, video editing software, and games. I wouldn't necessarily recommend an upgrade to an SSD unless you want to put up the cash for a high capacity drive. I'd stay away from 7200 rpm HDDs unless you want to cut your battery by 20% or if battery capacity isn't important to you.
Speaking of battery life, It's alright. It's average for it's class, getting around 4 hours on a full charge more if you conserve with no audio, video, or heavy use. Less if you are doing any gaming while not plugged in. Keep screen brightness down for best results.
The keyboard is fine. It's comfortable to type on and the trackpad is well positioned and sized. My only gripe with input devices is the keyboard not being backlit. The numberpad is a nice touch also.
The screen, while average resolution, is pretty nice. Color reproduction isn't very good (for all you artists), however text is very readable and the display generally looks great in most lighting conditions. The viewing angles are just okay, but some may consider that a positive for privacy.
The speakers are above average for laptops in this class, however nothing amazing. The sound is clear and gets fairly loud. However, as is a problem with most laptops, bass is almost non-existent.
Enough ports to get the job done, and USB 3.0 is a nice touch, albeit a little anemic at a single port.
Windows 8 is okay. I'm sure that it will only get better with time, but I've encountered many bugs with the OS so far that have almost made me switch to 7. After getting them fixed though, I'm pleased with how the OS works. The learning curve can be steep if you're used to 7 and not prone to picking things up quickly. Microsoft took 8 out of the oven before it was done, but it's really close to being a great operating system.
A quick note on upgrading. Everything is easily accessible via a removable hatch under the unit towards the front. Good call, Acer.
The processor, while not as powerful per core as a lowly Sandy Bridge Core i3, is actually quite speedy with four cores and "turbo core". I've had no bottlenecks with everyday use and gaming. The only situation where the AMD silicon has let me down is multimedia editing. Photo and video editing is clearly this CPUs shortcoming. While not terrible, the i3 outclasses it by at least 10% under full load. The Intel architecture is simply better and more efficient. Don't let this hold you back from purchasing this if you're on the cusp however. I, myself, am a photographer and use have used this in the field on numerous occasions to great effect.

In a house with over a half dozen computers (iMacs to full blown gaming rigs), two laptops and a few tablets, weaklings are quickly discarded. This little rig runs great, is more than capable of casual gaming, holds a charge and is very easy to get used to. Windows 8 is still a bit frustrating, but we're getting there. Got the Logitech T650 with it, and the two work together perfectly. Learning gestures is something completely new, and is much harder for me than my 9 y/o son who this laptop was bought for. He had limited exposure to Win7, so is taking to Win8 like a duck to water, and once you get over the appearance differences, there is a familiar interface underneath, so I can make adjustments and set some things up for him. The smaller working area of the touchpad is a benefit to his small hands, but often makes my old hands feel like clumsy hams on ropes, and using Win7 since beta, every day, on many different PCs significantly steepened my learning curve for 8. Reviews of HP 2000-410US (15.6-Inch Screen) Laptop
I saw some of the reviews on here and thought I would add my 2 cents. I bought this computer at Office Depot for 350 dollars (sorry amazon ... love your prices usually but not this time) For the price and specs this is an excellent computer. If you are looking for a computer that does more than surf the web and homework this is NOT the computer for you so dont leave comments saying that this computer is bad because the graphics are not great ... they aren't supposed to be great and those are not productive comments. If you ARE looking for a comp for school (as I was looking for) this is an excellent choice with great specs and a great price. As per some of the other comments, I have had no problems connecting to the internet and if you are looking for a bigger laptop with a key pad this is not the computer you should have bought in the first place. Battery life a great (in my opinion, although I have not pushed it yet to see if it goes past 3+ hours). I agree that the arrow keys are a little annoying but then again my last two laptops were Toshiba Satellites and I was used those types of keyboards for a while. I'll get used to it. Overall exactly what I thought I was getting and works exactly for what I want; surfing and reviewing/writing documents.
What I did to fix the problem (I now get amazing wifi coverage throughout the house):
Simply go into device manager, select Network Adapters, select Atheros AR9485..., select Advanced Power Save Mode turn to "off"
Next under Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound, Under Power Options select Change Battery Settings, Select "change plan settings" set both battery and plugged in to "Maximum Performance."
I would like to see HP actually fix the problem so that I could get better battery life, but for now this will do. Aside from this wifi issue the laptop provides decent performance. The screen is very sharp and bright. It has sufficient disk capacity and memory can be expanded if you want to juice performance in running multiple aps or large graphics. Overall a great laptop for the price. I just wish I had the 4 hours I spent figuring this out back.
Win 7 64 bits runs smooth.
Really fast processor B960 almost an Core i3 without threads but save alot of money.
Silent fan and 500 GB disk.
Nice slim keyboard.
Little charger the same size of a HP mini laptop.
Wifi N + Bluetooth.

I purchased this laptop for about $300 after $50 rebate, and for the price it is a very good deal with one exception. The wifi/bluetooth adaptor does not work if you are anywhere more than a few feet from the wifi router. Web browsing is slow, drops connection or operates at limited capacity if you move away from the wifi router. I spent 4 hours e-mailing back and forth to HP support in India without a solution. The support is efficient and polite, but was unable to resolve the issue. Finally I discovered a work-around that provides good wifi connectivity, however, I do not consider it a fix because it involves disabling power saving features of this laptop. To find the solution search for "Wireless issues on HP2000-US with Atheros AR9485" and read the posts on HP's support discussion site.What I did to fix the problem (I now get amazing wifi coverage throughout the house):

This is is good laptop for everyday use, such as homework, light gaming, e-mailing and surfing the web. The Pentium CPU is a much better and faster CPU then the AMD E Series in this price class. Its speakers o.k. (they certainly are not Beats Audio quality) and the touch pad can be touchy, but those are my only complaints. I have seen other reviews saying they have had overheating issues, but mine has been fine thus far. I compared the price on the HP site and it was about fifty dollars cheaper hear, and it would have taken about a week longer to get it. I have had the computer for a couple days. At first it seemed a little slow but after doing all the updates it is doing fine. Loads fast. Laptop works well. Biggest problem is the keyboard and the fact that the trackpad likes to jump you all over the place. Not sure if that is a personal problem or if it is common. My battery is completely dead after 1 year. Asus is replacing but I am not happy that it will probably burn out again after a year.

The battery life is about 3 to 3.5 hours using the built-in battery saving mode with wifi on.
It can handle most video games on decent settings, but don't expect to play Crysis on anything above low settings.
The build quality is very nice, even though the touchpad could be improved; but I use a bluetooth mouse with it so it doesn't bother me much.
The speakers sound pretty well.

Review of Lenovo ThinkPad X230 12.5" Ultraportable Business Notebook PC
These ThinkPad's are built like tanks, and it's rare to get the X230's with the i7 processor a worthwhile upgrade. Most that I see are always with i3 or i5. I especially like that they are MILC (military) tested for pressure, humidity, vibration, temperature, dust, etc. That way I don't have to worry about a simple drop or trying to be super careful whenever I carry the thing it's going to last regardless of what I do. The Thinkpad brand at Lenovo has always built quality laptops, and I think it's worth it to pay a bit extra for the dependability and build quality. The backlit keyboard on this model is also something very worthwhile.
I hope Lenovo could improve their strategies and lower the price in China so that Chinese, like me, won't have to purchase Lenovo's products overseas to save the money.ヽ(ｏ`皿′ｏ)ﾉ

Cheap WolVol Android 4.1 WIFI 7 inch laptop

I had previously owned a 10" Tablet and was less than happy with it for a few reasons. One reason is that I am not overly fond of touchscreens, as convenient as they may be, also the tablet I had was VERY slow. I had contemplated trying the kindle fire but didn't see too many rave reviews on that one either. So I started looking into notebook PC's, but as I was shopping around I came across the WolVol brand of "netbooks" I saw that they were compact (10'' or 7") ad that they also came with keyboards. This interested me very much, because of that feature along with the sizes they came in and the very reasonable prices of these items. What really hooked me was the fairly rave reviews, especially about the customer service you received, it all sounded great! Now I just had to decide on a size, and I chose the 7" because, for me, the smaller the better, plus I was mostly going to use it for catching up on my emails and social sites as I waited in Doctor offices and other places away from home.
For the price, it also came with a mouse and a slip bag to store it in, so I decided to give it a shot and must say have no regrets.
It comes with android 4.0 and the unit is pretty fast when you are using the wireless, no extended delays connecting to sites or navigating around.
The only drawback, to me, is that you cannot charge it when it is in it's slipbag because of where the chg. plug is located (on the back) so I just may poke a hole in the bag to do that. The mouse may not also be a top quality, but it works and just fine!
For the price of the package you really do get everything one needs for a "netbook" and can operate it right away out of the box! Aside from the inconvenient location of the charging plug, I am giving this item 5 stars because any less would just be nitpicking.
