I bought this as a birthday and graduation gift for my sister, after I saw her old Pavilion DV4150US. I wanted her to have something that'll carry her farther than just her current Master's studies, as well as help her with her orchestra performances and student tutoring sessions. She was absolutely ecstatic when she signed for it and opened the box!

She ran into one problem: Office 2010 Professional. For some inane reason, when she got ready to use Word 2010, it asked her for the product key. The other applications in the suite did likewise. We checked all the paperwork that came with the system to no avail. Because it was loaded by HP (OEM), she'll have to wait for when she has time off to call HP's Customer Care to request help. That makes me rather unhappy 'cause I don't like giving anyone, even my own sister, a half-functioning gift.

In the meantime, she's able to use it a lot more for her classes, her students, and her performances without any hangups or issues. Will update this review once we hear from HP.

This laptop is a very solid, well built machine that runs very smooth. It has a dual core AMD 2.7ghz processor which delivers pretty good performance overall. The only thing is if you use it for gaming or add more memory you might want a laptop cooler since it does tend to get very hot at times. I recommend adding another 4GB DDR3 memory module (it has 4gb already with 1 more slot free). This will make Windows 7 run alot faster and smoother.

The laptop comes with the A6 AMD built in graphics that has 512 mb onboard and use up to 3.5 gb of system memory to compliment it, for a total of 4gb video memory (512 mb onboard & 3.5gb shared).I played Tomb Raider 2013, Crysis 2, Black OPS 2 and believe it or not, they ran very well! (At medium graphics settings). Movies play very well in High Definition.

So in conclusion I would recommend this laptop for first time users or for users that have a limited budget. Enjoy...

So far this computer has worked great. No issues. It booted right up and is pretty fast. I am not thrilled with the touchpad. It is fairly large and I tend to touch it with the sides of my hands making the cursor skip around the page. But, overall it is a good value for the price.

I have to first say that I have had this less than one week. The first impressions have been love at first sight: the look, the feel, the weight, the speed... Amazing, really! The SSD is great and makes the laptop wake up lightning fast.

Now for the cons... Today the display driver acted up twice while watching videos. I find this is unacceptable for a machine of this pedigree. It also seems to get very hot at times, and mind you I live in an environment where the room temperature is in the 60-70F temp range wonder how it works in a hotter environment?!

I will update this review once I have more input...

I bought essentially the same version of the Eee from another store--and as it arrives it's not usable.

Here's why: the Xandros distribution it comes with uses UnionFS. That lets you have one read-only partition that has the file system in its initial state, and another read-write that has changes. If a file exists in the read-write partition, it's used instead of the corresponding one in the read-only partition.

That has a major advantage: if you get things totally messed up, reboot and press a key and it will return things to their initial state--all it needs to do is wipe the read-write partition.

It has a major disadvantage: it uses up more space, and with a 4 GB SSD, I found that after it automatically downloaded updates, there was very little space left. Remember, the original version is still there, taking up space on the read-only partition, while the new version is on the read-write partition--and that's separate from the downloaded file containing the update that gets uncrated into position for use. After updating one or two programs, the SSD was totally full, rendering the system unusable.

You have two choices: (1) get a larger-capacity SSD and reinstall, or (2) download Ubuntu Eee (soon to be renamed Easy Peasy) and install it, wiping Xandros from the SSD. When I did that, there was 1.5 GB left on the SSD, and a couple of updates later, there's still 700 MB left.

That said: the display is gorgeous. The touchpad is respectable, and yes, it understands two-finger scrolling. The wi-fi worked for me at a motel a week or so ago when my wife's Dell Inspiron laptop couldn't get a usable signal. Yeah, the keys on the keyboard are tiny, but I will adapt, even with stubby little fat fingers.

So: as it comes from the factory, I have to wonder whether ASUS wanted to put people off Linux--imagine the fury of a parent or grandparent thinking he was getting little Johnny a computer for Christmas only to find that after a few minutes it says the disk is full and can't be used! With a larger SSD, or with Ubuntu Eee/Easy Peasy, it's a marvelous little netbook.

I bought the linux variant. It works great out of the box, pretty easy. Detects and connects to wifi wherever I go just fine. The included OpenOffice suite ensures compatibility with both Apple and MS office docs. I did decide to upgrade to 2 gbytes of ram from the default 512 mbyte; it makes heavy simultaneous usage of several apps smoother. I bought Kingston Technology KHX4200S2LL/2GR 2 GB 533MHz DDR2 SODIMM Netbook/Notebook Memory (Retail), swapped it in for a cheap and easy upgrade. Thought I would hate the tiny keyboard, but I adapted just fine within a couple days. Hooking up external monitor/keyboard/mouse is easy.

Couple negative points:

1. Lack of support for wpa2 wifi encryption, though maybe that will be solved in a firmware update?

2. I don't particularly like the two prong power cord, I'd like the option of grounding the power.

3. Occasionally when I plug the power in, it'll freeze and require a reboot. I suspect this has more to do with the sketchy wiring at my house than a problem with the netbook.

Edit: 2013-07-16

This awesome little netbook lasted until October 2012. The original power cord wore out a year previous, but I picked up a compatible brick from iGo. The fatal night was dark, but clear, and calm. It was on, low on power. I plugged it in. The smell of burnt plastic flooded the room. The screen turned black. I disconnected the power, waited a couple minutes, then tried in vain to turn it back on. Alas, its magic smoke is all leaked out.

I'm trying to replace this with a Google/Samsung series 3 chromebook, but the eeepc900 is clearly the superior machine. I ended up running a lean install of Arch Linux in place of the oem OS. Just before it died I was even running Eclipse 3.6 for jsf development! Fat chance doing that on this chromebook.

Best Deals for 8.9/INTEL/4G SSD/512MB DDR2/LINUX/WHITE ( EEEPC900-W073 )

I bought this model (cheaper, refurbished from a different vendor, with a gig of ram, sorry Amazon) and while I am not as well versed with different versions of linux as the other reviewer so far, Mr. Jones, I had the same storage space problem. When I started the netbook, it immediately wanted to update, and by the time it had stopped, I had maybe 50 megabytes free. So I actually took both of Mr. Jones options, I ordered a "new" old 14 gigabyte SSD from Newegg (make sure it is compatible with the slightly older M900 architecture), and I downloaded and installed eeebuntu.

So I am very satisfied with the software on the eee. I am not a programmer or terribly conversant with hardware, but I work at a University in the department that provides computer services (servers, email, computer labs, etc) so I like to be conversant with different operating systems and easy sorts of computer upgrades and repairs. And the eee provides me with some access to a type of linux (Unix, essentially, right?).

As far as my evaluation of the hardware of the eee is concerned, everything must be measured against its primary quality, its portability. So I am not wild about the keyboard, and while I think the screen resolution is pretty good for applications and how the OS icons are set up, I find the resolution for surfing only acceptable. The eee is hard to balance on my lap (not a laptop or a netbook but a wobbletop). But, again, the thing weighs practically nothing and fits well into any bag that has padding for a laptop. You probably can't use this as a portable DVD player (even with an external DVD drive) and any video you play through media player is likely to be unacceptably small. And this may not have the power to run the most demanding app's (assuming you can find some that will run on eeebuntu). Still, especially if you get this cheap, this is a good ultra moble web surfer. I have found battery life to be around a solid three hours (I may have charged it too long early on, you may get more).

Honest reviews on 8.9/INTEL/4G SSD/512MB DDR2/LINUX/WHITE ( EEEPC900-W073 )

Great little computer, but owner/vendor does not respond to several emails and submit the access KEY for registration and efficiency. So this makes the computer inefficient due to a lack of value with customer service. So I am out of bucks for the moment!

15.6" Notebook T3100 Blk/Gray Review

I bought this laptop from tigerdirect and i am very pleased with it. For under 400 dollars this thing is a beast. The dual core celeron is fast and it can be overclocked to around 3 ghz. The laptop is light and has good build quality too. I would recommend this laptop to any average consumer.

this laptop is what it is a cobbled together, undocumented frankenstein of a notebook.

first, the good: battery life is great. not record setting, but perfectly acceptable. I was skeptical of windows 7, but it's turned out to be pretty damn solid.

the guts are quality components. i've had zero issues with any of the hardware. it's fast and just all around good.

now the bad:

this is an off brand laptop, so you wont be getting apple or dell build quality. it's a bit flimsy. the display is not good. it has an extremely limited vertical viewing angle. blacks are more gray than anything. it only looks good viewed dead on in a semi-dark room. the trackpad is inaccurate and it is not possible to disable tap-to-click. this wouldnt be a big deal except that it is very easy to brush it when typing, which will move the cursor to wherever the mouse is. this is a constant pain and the #1 thing i wish MSI would address. I have buttons for clicking, I do not need nor want tap-to click.

everything else is fine the HDMI is sweet, the optical drive is fast and capable, 3gb is plenty of RAM, and the hard drive is adequate. the keyboard is acceptable nothing special, and it takes some getting used to it being offset due to the numeric keypad.

but it's cheap. damn cheap. cheaper than any other similarly spec'd laptop. and that is its saving grace.

you have to understand, MSI is not traditionally a laptop manufacturer, they are laptop assemblers. this computer is cobbled together from whatever parts they had laying around, thus the wonky numpad keyboard and subpar trackpad, as well as lack of drivers and support. it is what it is cheap with good specs but disappointing execution, all of which can be forgiven when you consider the price. would i recommend this laptop? not really. I'd throw another $100-$200 and get a dell if I could go back. but it's not terrible. if you know cars, you know the toyota corolla is a solid vehicle. well, think of this as a geo prism, a corolla clone, rebadged and done up with a cheaper interior. but under the hood it's still a corolla.

one last gripe the friggin LEDs under the mouse buttons are bright as hell and completely useless. I covered mine up with some electrical tape.

I was impressed of Taiwan brand like Asus because of the build quality. I thought of giving MSI a try since it s also make from Taiwan and it has a reputation for great motherboard. I bought this product less than 1 year ago but very unhappy about the quality of it

Beside from the pro which is surprisingly cheap for a poor college student, there are tons of cons:I constantly have to restart because some internal problem . The build quality is cheap and the customer service will not do anything about it because they will blame on you for physical damage . My problem with this computer build quality is that the frame glue came off less than 1 year use. The lid have some problem with closing ( One side of the lid joint wont move) and plus, I have some hard time with keeping the lid open on it all at some angle ( and yes, within one year of use, no abuse, no dropping)

I would advice not to purchase this product AT ALL, you dont want to mess with their customer service

Honest reviews on 15.6" Notebook T3100 Blk/Gray

An excelent option, very low price and a great performance. It's easy to carry, only 4kg. The only problem it's that the battery lasts only 2:30 hours of activity, but if you customize the power saver option, and decreese the processor level to a 50% of maximum, usage, the battery last up to 4 hours.

With his celeron processor, give's an excelent option for internet and multimedia.

And inlcudes webcam and microphone built in, so you can use skype, or other videoconference with an excelent performance

An excelent computer, with a very low price,

This is a nice looking laptop and I like the design.

As for speed and performance, it's a lot faster than my old Dell so no complaints.

I'm motivated to review the touchpad here because to be honest it's driving me crazy. It's not a smooth touchpad you'll see from the photos that there is a slight texturing to it. I didn't think it would be a problem but my fingertips no matter how light or hard I press don't move smoothly over it in any direction but downwards. They catch and start-stop. It's so frustrating I went back to the dealer and we tried cutting a plastic iPhone cover down to size and affixing it over the touchpad but it didn't stick very well. Sadly I'm contemplating returning it which would be such a shame.

I don't mind using a USB mouse but still I encourage anyone thinking of going with this particular design to really give the touchpad a try. Maybe it's just me, but ... ugh.

Nice product in a very good value. My only disappointment was the battery duration. I never could get up to 5 hours as described in the product especification. Battery lasts for as much as 2 hours. Consider in your budget a long duration (6-9 cell) extra battery.

Best Deals for Sony VAIO VGN-NW120J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver

I do not like the bumpy, textured touchpad my finger catches frequently even with the lightest pressure and it is simply unpleasant to the touch, especially during long hours of use. The experience is obnoxious enough that I am considering getting rid of this laptop after only a few days!

Battery life is only ~2 hrs, not 5 as advertised.

Otherwise, the laptop is fast and attractive.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO VGN-NW120J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver

I have nothing but good things to say about this computer. It runs fast and has everything on here that I need and more. Everyone else review has said it all in regards to good things. The only negative I agree with is battery life but for all the good that comes with this... I can deal with that.

Though my Sony laptop has been dependable, I will never buy a Sony again. Sony has no automatic updates for software, hardware or drivers. They do not even have all of the Sony models listed, including the model that I own. They say that you can sign onto their site to see what if any updates might be available for your model, but if your model is not listed, then it is difficult to get to that site. Even if you do get to a comparable site, the updates that are listed tend to be generic updates that are applicable to a wide range of models. When I asked them which updates I should download, they said I should download the updates that fix any problems I am having. That is fine for serious problems because I actually know that I have them, but that advice does nothing for those subliminal problems that do not crash a program, but merely slow down the computer function. I am just a moderately savvy computer user, so Sonys might be great for the advanced computer user. Otherwise I would suggest that you look for a brand that gives better automated support if your computer knowlege ranges from limited to moderate.

This will be my second Vaio that I have purchased. The first Vaio I had died because I left it surrounded by a bed blanket over night and it decided to update during that period of time. Thus burning up the processor. This one is a great upgrade. Windows eight was annoying at first but after using the Vaio control center and checking the tutorial it made things so much easier.....Thanks SONY!!!! I was having trouble figuring out how to scroll but the control center showed me that with the new mouse pad you have to use two fingers in order for the mouse pad to recognize you want to scroll.

The computer itself runs windows 8 very smoothly because of the 2.00 Ghz i7. The screen is crystal clear and very bright. I love the illuminated key board it makes typing in the dark so much easier. Another thing that was a bonus for me was I backed up all my files on a hard drive...I plugged it up and the Vaio transferred all my music and pictures effortlessly. The Vaio app "Playmemories home" even organized my pictures in a yearly monthly format.......Say I took a pic in August 12, of 2011. If I click on that specific day on the monthly interface it shows me every pic I took for that day.

I also don't have to worry about the computer over heating anymore because the fan has been moved to the top of the Keyboard right under the screen thus keeping the heat of the laptop away from my skin or any blankets lol.....

I am having so much fun going threw all the different powerful vaio apps and seeing how useful the are.

Excellent buy in my opinion.

I picked the Sony VAIO because it ranked in the top 5 of laptops of its kind, along with the Dell XPS, which is the one I thought I wanted, but couldn't afford. The VAIO actually ranked second (after the Mac). I don't remember who did the rating--I looked at lots of ratings, and decided this one was the one to go with. I was switching from a 10-year-old desktop, which finally died. I have a Dell Inspiron (2008, running Vista), and thought I wanted another Dell, because it would make an easier changeover, and it would have to be replaced eventually. A friend said the Dell XPS was much better hardware than the Inspiron, but I wasn't ready to spend $1400+ on a new laptop. So I was glad to get the VAIO for about $1000 (with no interest for 6 months on an Amazon store card).

The screen resolution is great, and it boots up very fast. It has enough USB ports (many laptops only have one or two, this has four, and I need all of them). In other ways, I've had to work around things. The keyboard initially gave me problems because of some key locations, and because, even though backlit, it was hard to read the letters (I'm not sure why). Now I have it hooked to my old keyboard (that's one USB port, the mouse is another, an external drive is a third, and a memory stick is the fourth). Windows 8 gave me trouble for awhile, but I finally figured out how to work around it (just click on the app that takes you to file explorer and forget about it). I can't say about battery life, since I usually plug it in to use it.

I've had it a month, and have had no problems, so I guess that's a good grade. I love having the touchscreen, even though I rarely use it.

I've been using this laptop for almost two weeks. The design/weight/thickness of this laptop was the reason that I bought it. I was a little over expected how it was gonna come out. I am gonna be precise on this review

Pro: 1. I bought it for 799 from DealVille which is 200 dollars cheaper than anywhere else.

2. Boot take about 5 sec and stand by / sleep mode takes about 2 sec to turn on

3. Light and Super Thin. Also come with a leather case which is awesome

4. Full HD Screen. The color is amazing

5. Responsive 10 points multi-TouchScreen

6. Come with a free Acer bluetooth mouse

Cons:1. Battery Life Should have been better. 6 Hours on Acer ad but in fact only 4 hours on microsoft office with WiFi completely off. 3.5 hours on web

surfing and video steaming. Last about 2.5 hours on Photoshop.

2. The laptop look a bit like plastic although it is aluminium finish and glass finish on the back. My partner asked if i got it from ToyRus. LOL

3. The Keyboard. The light sensor thing just sucks. The silver keyword and the aqua-blue light just not well lit in the dark. Good luck typing!!!

4. Web Cam!!! Seriously ACER????? For A premium Ultrabook, the Web Cam on this Acer S7 391 look like it was a 1960 Technology. Bad pixel and worse in

low light room. By low light I mean low light not dark. The 5 dollars web cam that i bought on ebay look 10 times better than this ultrabook's

webcam

5. Pricy. Thank God for DealVille. I paid only 799. I would never pay a penny more for this laptop.

6. Spec. Ram is sealed in so you can't upgrade it. The SDD is mSata which expensive to replace. If you can live with 128 GB than good for you.

Other Thoughts: I think this laptop should be much cheaper than the price it listed on Acer Website for 1,300. Thank God for DealVille. I paid only 799. The battery life should have been better or at least reach 6 hours as the ad claimed. If you are looking for a slim easy to carry around laptop. This one is for you. The design and the weight are the two winners for this laptop. Don't expect to play game or do heavy computing on this little laptop. It won't meet your expectation. If you want this laptop get it from DealVille for 799. Don't you dare pay a penny more for it. Cuz it won't worth it.

Acer Aspire S7 is very well designed ultrabook which has won many awards for 2012-13. I purchased this from Microsoft online store for $699same model with corei5, 4gb RAM and 128gb SSD. Huge discount out there.

I'm using this for last 2 weeks. and everything I found which is worth to praise.

PROS:

1. Extremely thin, lightweight, even light than MacBook Air 13".

2. Full HD IPS display for better viewing anglebetter than MacBook Air

3. Good trackpad and backlit keyboard

4. I am big fan of windows 8 touchscreen and it works so smooth and no issues here.

5. Gorilla glass on the topso scratch resistive and tough. Sometimes may feel like this is a toy and may break, but believe me this is a design masterpiece. Aluminium keyboard, gorilla glass top and hard plastic at bottom.

6. Aspire S7 never gets hot but fan may kick on few times when u r watching full hd movies / games. Cooling fans r well built so even if u keep on bed it will not get hot... Easy to type in ur lap.

7. Webcamera is good for Skype video calls.

8. I have 3rd gen core i5 with 4 gb of rAM, which gives excellent performance. If u wanna more battery then go for Haswell processors but don't think that these haswell can give u more performance.

9. Worth to mention Boot time is just 4 seconds from deep sleep and just 1 second from lid sleep.

CONS:

1. Bit low battery of 4 hours. Though acer says of 6 hours I never get it even if I run S7 on power saving mode.

2. Keyboard is shallow, keys travel less distance while typing. Give some time to habit of this. But since ultrabook is very thin, key travel will decrease these days.

I can hardly find any CONs for this ultrabook, all I can say if u can get good deal this holiday, u must buy this.

Toshiba Satellite E305-S1995 14' Laptop
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

I have owned 3 Satellites over the years--in fact, I'm typing on a fabulous one now (the C655). I bought the E305 for my husband thinking it would be a great computer like my C655. Boy was I wrong. First, it is terribly slow and crashes frequently. This is likely due to the paltry 4GB RAM on the unit, which I attempted to upgrade to 8GB yesterday--only to discover there's no RAM access panel on the back, and opening the unit up still didn't reveal the RAM location (since you can't actually pull apart the laptop once you've removed the back and the keyboard, as it's welded right smack in the middle of the motherboard in two places). So not being able to upgrade hardware makes this a crapper.

Adding insult to injury, the fan has been grinding loudly after a few months of excessively hot usage. Again, you can't pull apart the unit after unscrewing the laptop back and taking out the keyboard, which is normally how you do it. But with those two welded plugs keeping the unit together in 2 spots, you can't change the fan to a better one simply because you can't open it.

Normally, having a slow laptop and a bad fan isn't a kiss of death and wouldn't make this a terrible computer---IF you could open the stupid thing to repair them. Toshiba shot themselves in the foot with this one, simply by not making this a computer you can repair--so now I won't venture into buying another, for fear that when it has problems I won't be able to fix them. Won't buy another.

I have had this laptop for almost two years now, and I can tell you that it was worth every penny.

I bought this as a Black Friday deal for only $600, which was a steal considering the feature set of this laptop. I heard of a lot of reviewers complaining of keyboard malfunctions and the sort, but I have not experienced anything so far.

PERFORMANCE:

The i5 processor is great and fast. 1080p video is streamed flawlessly for the most part. I have tons of third-party software on this laptop and the 6GB RAM helps in maintaining the speed. Compared to a year ago, I have noticed that start-up is significantly slower, but that is normal with any laptop.

The laptop does heat up, especially when you are doing graphic-intensive work, or downloading a large, high quality video file. And the fan is somewhat noisy too.

KEYBOARD:

I love the keyboard. It has a back-lit functionality which is useful and I use it often. The keys are spaced out well and I don't need to press too hard to get a response. The keys are swift and responsive. It is a glossy keyboard, however, so, after some time, the oil from your fingers will make some impressions on the keys, but you can easily clean this with a slightly damp napkin.

TOUCHPAD:

It's not multi-touch, which is one of the few drawbacks of this laptop, but the touchpad is still responsive and sturdy. It feels a bit rough at first, but I got used to it quickly.

SPEAKERS:

The biggest flaw. The speakers are at the front, bottom portion of the laptop, so most of the noise is directed downwards, instead of upwards. This is frustrating sometimes, with certain low-volume videos. I was particularly annoyed at Toshiba for missing something that could have been an easy fix. If the speakers were placed above the keyboard and retained the quality they have now, I would have definitely have given this laptop five stars.

BLURAY:

A great feature. I used it once with no issues. The quality was great and the player streamed the video flawlessly. The drive, however, does become rather noisy and warm, but not loud enough to really disrupt the movie.

Some reviewers say the laptop is fragile, but I have dropped this laptop from about 3 feet onto a hard floor, which only caused a minor dent on lower right hand side and a minor dent on the screen. This happened several months ago and the computer is still working fine. I was surprised that the laptop took so little damage!

Overall, I would recommend this laptop. It works great for students who want more than just an academic laptop. You can do your homework but at the same time watch high quality videos. This laptop can handle all of it.

UPDATE JULY 2013:

Well, it has been almost two years since I purchased this laptop. For the first time, I am seeing some "wear and tear". The touchpad can be scratched off to reveal its undercoat. Not a big deal, really, because the damage is minimal.

It works well and is reasonably priced, buut the screen broke twice in 10 month and isn't covered by warranty.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite E305-S1995 14" Laptop (Intel Core i5-2410M

Lots of nice extras, good battery life. This computer has a Blu-ray player, back-lit keyboard, a Hybrid Drive (part ssd part standard 7200 rpm HDD), great sounding Dolby speakers, WiMax, push2TV, and the Toshiba Eco Utility is really nice. With the click of a button I can go into a power efficient mode without having to sift through menus.

and oh yeah...

This is a very fragile laptop. The keyboard is marginally responsive. The touchpad is extremely buggy. Even when three feet away the WiDi loses the connection. Worst of all, it comes with a two year warranty, but when you call Toshiba they say your one year phone service has come to an end. I'm not sure how to use the remainder of the warranty. I will never purchase a Toshiba again.

Just received this one and I'm using it to leave this message. It was easy to setup and configure and I must say this Dell Inspiron i7-2670qm 15R is an outstanding notebook for the price. This machine has excellent performance. It's fast with a great display and keyboard w/number pad and includes features like HDMI, two USB 3.0, and eSATA connectors. The i7 quad processor ranks about 89 on the highend cpu benchmark scale making this a great value since notebooks like this one can sale for upwards of $1,000. If you are looking for a good laptop for under $600, this one's outstanding.

I recently purschased this laptop with the $590 deal and for that price I can tell you it was a great buy. I like to take my time when buying computer components because since I live in México is not as ez as many of you to return an item if it comes dented, scratched or fails on the first days after purschase because at that time I'd probably back from the US (Amazon is the best thing ever I think)...so I was looking for a laptop that fulfills my high requirements since I am a programmer and a gamer to get the best performance for the best price, in this case it will be mainly for programming over gaming, so my first priority was processor because that is something you'll live with the rest of your laptop's life, then the RAM Memory which can be upgradable at anytime, graphics (HDMI port), screen size and the last thing I care about is hdd capacity (just use an external hdd for data).

This laptop comes with i7 which means that you are getting 4 cores in contrast to the i5 that are 2 cores and that represents great performance in multitasking and hard processing in long runs even when you get faster frequencies with 2 cores, I recommend you to go to the cpubenchamarks page which can help you to have an overview and ranking performance of the cpu model you are looking for, when buying a laptop be careful of those advertisements deals of some AMD processors that are 3-4 cores that don't perform as Intels i3-i5 because sometimes the Intel performs better even with 2 cores.

Now, RAM memory is upgradable to 8 GB and for starting with 6GB is good and you save a bit here to later buy 2x4GB sticks same brand because when I opened it I noticed it came with 2 different brands.

So far the other features were good for me except for the hard drive, it is 500GB 5400rpm which is a speedbump for the processor, so without awaiting to see how the HDD would perform and before I got the laptop I ordered a 128GB SSD (Samsung 830 series because of its reliability and rankings) and I know the big difference it would make. The performance before the SSD was really noticeable as expected after I installed it, the SSD was 2.5x faster that the HDD and now it easily boots in 13 16 seconds average, consider here that I installed a fresh instance of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate so no preinstalled Dell software that could slow down my boot time. The really bad news here are that if you want to upgrade the HDD for a SSD you'll need to literally dismantle your laptop in order to do that (I was not aware of that until the moment) so I took the risk in its brand new state and it wasn't so hard for me since I am an Engineer in Computer Systems but anyone can do it because it's pretty straightforward, all is just remove screws (during the procedure I highly recommend using antistatic wrist strap). Thanks to some tutorials I found in youtube I was able to do it with no problems but I sweated during the process (j/k) hoping I wouldn't break anything (plastics). At the end I did the system rating test and the graphics were the low ranked that determined the rating which I don't care much since I can run HD Videos, I think it has the Intel HD Graphics 3000 which is the most common, anyways If I want to play video games I just have to seat on my desktop with EVGA GTX 560 TI FTW. Hope you find this useful.

An excellent machine with 3 GIGS of RAM. Super integrated ATI graphics delivers very high performance. Runs very cool not like old hot Aspire 3000. Came with Vista that was promptly removed and replace with XP. Just a very nice performing cool laptop. I am going to buy a second one.

I've had this laptop for about three months now and have no complaints. I have had several laptops in the past (Toshiba, Dell, HP, Sony, and ASUS) and have to admit that this laptop holds up pretty well with all of those. This thing is great for regular use web surfing, music, movies and some minor gaming. For the price, I think this thing does more than you can ask for. This is a great intro laptop and I love it so far.

Less than a week after purchase I lost the $ key. I contacted Acer, and was told to 'send it in for repairs'. I requested a replacement keyboard instead, and was refused. A local computer store said it would be $200 to replace the keyboard (!). So, I ordered one on Ebay, and did it myself with no problems.

Bottom line... it is a cheap computer. But, if you want something simple and easy to use, it's not a bad purchase.

I bought this Acer 5515 and found that it is not what I expected it to be. I was going to return it but found out after I received it that it was not returnable. The processor is very slow and I do not recommend this for any one who wants to work with flash or even play games! So buyer beware you are not getting a good deal from JC Connections with this product.

Some confusion on purchasers part as to delivery speed. Item purchased was apparently received as specified in the sellers obligation. Information from Amazon was not understood. Laptop is operating very well and meeting all expectations once received.

Bought this laptop for my wife. Using for web browsing, pictures and some MS Office applications. Appears to be working just fine for those purposes. Applications are installing/running properly, battery lasting 4+ hours, weight is good, touch pad is a little quirky though livable. So far she is very pleased. Only real issue for me is not liking Windows 8....but since I'm not using the laptop I can live with it.

Amazon really needs to keep their descriptions more up to date. I almost didn't buy this because the description said the hard drive was 5400 RPM. I finally decided it wasn't reasonable that Amazon would be selling old equipment that wasn't even available anywhere else. My reasoning turned out to be correct. My unit came with 320 GB, 7200rpm (Hitachi HTS723232A7A364). It also has the optional Bluetooth (not mentioned in the description). The rest of the description was accurate.

I like this computer, but there is no reason for me to duplicate -there are plenty of reviews out there to read. Here are a few things I did not read in on-line reviews.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crapware installed. I chose to decline the Norton antivirus option. on past computers, this left a bunch of junk deeply embedded in the OS. But this time, there was no junk. Declining Microsoft Office 10 leaves files on the machine, but they are easily removed through the Programs option in the control panel.

Creating a backup USB disk is very easy and highly recommended. I use a USB hard drive for backup. After storing everything on the drive somewhere else, I used the Thinkpad utility to reformat it, then put the backup files back. Now I can boot from the USB drive, restore my system, and quickly re-add all my programs and files, should it become necessary.

This computer does not have a disk drive activity light, a feature I miss. I found the utility DriveGLEAM does a nice job. It shows disk activity in the task bar.

I ordered the computer late at night. I got it in a few hours less than 2 days -a pleasant surprise.

This is the second laptop that I bought from Lenovo. The first one was an Ideapad Y430 that operated as smooth as the first day in their 3 years time of use, and after a terrible experience with a HP tablet, I wanted to stay with Lenovo. My first option was the ultraportable Ideapad U260, but then I discovered the new ThinkPad E220s. The same size of the U260 (12.5) plus the newer Intel processors, an E-SATA connections, card reader, fingerprint reader and almost the same price.

After receiving it, I can say that it's a very beatiful machine (great design and materials), very light and compact. It's also packed with full features of a normal size laptop (i5 processor, 320 gb HD, 4gb RAM). It's very smooth and quiet, I would try to update the review after some weeks of use. It's also packed with ThinkPad programs in order to administrate energy, networks, etc.

Cons: No option for upgrade the RAM for now.

most parts installed in the pc is good, while the total performance of the pc is not as good as it should be judged by the parts.

Also it is the only series in thinkpad with lower quality design that seems easily broken.
