Maybe I'm biased because my old laptop was literally falling apart, but I love this laptop. It works quickly and efficiently. It's very organized. I wasn't willing to spend an insane amount on a computer just to surf the web. I have had incredibly good luck with HP products. I would advise anyone looking to purchase a simple laptop to give this one a shot.

This is a very fast computer and has all the latest versions of software...love it! It was my husbands anniversary present for him to use at meetings. It is self-contained with camera and Windows 8 which I found to be very user friendly.Best Deals for HP 2000-2b19wm 15.6-Inch Laptop PC (Winter Blue)
I needed to replace an aging laptop and while I wasn't excited about moving from Windows XP to 8, it has not been as bad as I had thought it would. I was able to import all of my old settings using Microsoft's Easy Transfer program and external USB drive and finally managed to import all of my old Outlook Express email messages by getting Microsoft's free Essentials Live Mail as a replacement for the out of the box Windows 8 Mail program. I purchased a third party tool to add back the Windows 7 start button (if you can wait for 8.1 you can do without the $5 add on). This laptop comes with 4 GB RAM and seems a little slow to me. Not terrible, but I went ahead and ordered more RAM. The motherboard on this machine only supports a max 8 GB RAM and I wish I had known that HP had configured this with a 4 GB RAM module in one socket with the other free. I could have just bought a 4 GB RAM module to add in, but it doesn't hurt to have a matched set of RAM and I would not have known the exact specs of the RAM chip that HP had in this laptop.
Overall a nice performer the screen is big and decent color. The track pad gets in my way and it is nice to be able to just double click on the top left and turn it off. The options to swipe from edge to edge and change from one open app to another annoyed me too that can also be turned off in the track pad options if you want.
The 1 year parts and service warranty is nearly worth the price of the laptop alone in my opinion.
UPDATE: After a few weeks of use, I'm still okay with the quality and performance. The one thing I really don't like is the limited screen resolution. I thought maybe there would be an updated video driver or something, but it really is just limited to two screen settings. Not terrible, but kinda surprising with the state of the art that it would be such a minimal choice of screen resolution.
