I've had this computer for about a week now and I really like almost everything about it. My only complaint is that the internal speaker is awful, really awful, and I can't find an equalizer to try to play with the mix. The speaker is so awful (I'm pretty sure my little cell phone has better sound than this thing)I considered sending the computer back. However, I had already loaded all of my files onto it before I tried listening to a CD so I decided that I will get a pair of blue tooth speakers to use instead of the internal speakers. I am enjoying everything else about the computer even Windows 8, which I thought I might hate but is actually quite fun and useful. The seller was terrific. The laptop arrived promptly, was packed well, and was exactly what I ordered.

The product was shipped very promptly. It arrived in perfect condition. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes the cursor seems to get stuck on the left side of the screen. Also, the size of the font changes very easily when on the Internet. Otherwise I really love the computer!

Being a loyal HP consumer for more than a decade, I feel that their 2000-2B16NR model fell short from impressing me in terms of performance. In a one-week period, I have had several blue screens of death after performing critical Windows Updates. Its AMD E1-1200 1.4GHz CPU can barely handle two Firefox Tabs (websites like Facebook, Youtube, and Pandora perform poorly) and the Task Manager without hitting the 100% speed limit. According to the store where I purchased this device, Fingerhut, claimed that the laptop had two RAM sticks of 2GB each. Since I am a PC geek, I discovered that it only had one 4GB RAM @ DDR3/PC3-12800 stick--which explains why the CPU struggles to handle more than one task online.

UPDATE (5-5-2013): I can't even watch online HD videos effectively even with high-speed, 15-mbps internet. What's the point of having an HD video card?

Recommendation to HP and those who own this model: to enhance your laptop's performance, get a bang for the buck, and if you're running on 64-bit Windows 8, UPGRADE YOUR RAM (if you have 4GB, boost it to 8GB).

Great Computer and reasonable price.

The HD is large enough and 4g ram is really good. CPU works well. You cannot use it as a game device of course, but for daily use, it is really great.

Best Deals for HP 2000-2b16NR 15.6" LED Notebook (4GB Ram, 500b hard drive

I bought this laptop from a different seller than amazon. This is my first HP computer I normally buy Toshiba. I wasn't too impressed with the speed, so increase the RAM to 8gb and put in a WD scorpio black hard drive. After that i could tell a big difference in the performance. Now its pretty good for how cheap it was. Im not a big fan of Windows 8. I liked 7 a lot better. But Windows 8 isn't that hard to navigate, its just a big learning curve. All in all the computer is good for everyday use and watching movies. I wouldn't use this for gaming if thats your sort of thing.

Honest reviews on HP 2000-2b16NR 15.6" LED Notebook (4GB Ram, 500b hard drive

I have now had this Notebook for about four months and it is pretty awful. I have had a lot of laptops through work and for personal use and this is by far the worst one I have ever had. Many, many blue screens of death, restarts, etc. I had to stop using Mozilla Firefox as my browser because this device could not seem to handle it it would just shut down. Typing is almost impossible because the cursor just seems to move and jump around. You'll be typing a sentence and then it will suddently just start inserting your words somewhere else in the document, e-mail, etc. Very frustrating. Now, the screen has gone completely blank. I can tell that everything is on, but, I can't see anything. I've tried connecting to an external monitor and I only get a quick flash of the screen before it too goes blank. I do not recommend this laptop at all. I have told my kids that if they can somehow fix it, they can have it. I will go buy something else; and, not an HP after this experience.

At around $800 for a 15 inch, this laptop undercuts the Apple Macbook Pro by about half. It is thin and light and with great decent build quality. The multi touch mouse is a little too sensitive but I believe with the correct collaboration, it can be easily fixed. The screen is bright with the LED backlighting. The battery in real life test lasted me about 8-9 hours while surfing the internet. There are additional features which I have yet to masters like smart login with camera. All in all, very satisfied with the purchase. The only thing I found a bit disappointing is that one of the rubber thingies that hides the screw already came off on day two. It does not impact the performance in anyway but it's a bit disappointing. Also there are alot of screw points around the monitor as well which was a bit of a surprise. The 15.6" widescreen is a bit non standard and cannot fit into my LV messenger bag. Windows 7 64 bit requires a bit of adjustments to work with older apps. But other than that, this is a beautiful, FAST, LIGHT alternative to the MacBook Pro.

A modern laptop design thin, lightweight, long battery life, and very nice screen. Unless you are a power user (ie processing speed), I'd get it. Probably the lowest quality aspect is the keyboard I'm not sure why they didn't tighten the keyboard up a bit, because they obviously spent a lot of time on all other aspects. The keys are loose feeling, and it's a bit clangy. On the other hand, I like having the numeric keypad will be great for certain games like Civ. And clearly, you can still type on it. I'm giving it 5 stars anyway because the overall package of price and quality is still a great deal. Windows 7 is much improved versus Vista. They have a lot of stylish icons and whatnot in the ASUS Bios, and they have even spent the time to put a fastboot OS onto the laptop it really is like a 5 second boot. Not worth using in my opinion since Windows 7 boots quite quickly itself.

This is my first Asus, having had Gateways, Dells, and several IBMs before. Comparisons to a MacBook pro aren't totally off-base my wife is sitting beside me with her MacBook Pro, and the screens are definitely comparable, as well as the thinness, lightness, etc. However, there is the keyboard thing. Then again, my wife's macbook has gone in twice for a keyboard repair. Hmm.

Battery life is of course awesome. The warranty is very good as well, better than most other manufacturers'.

Overall good value laptop for the price paid $750 including sales tax.

positive: super thin and light, large hard drive @500gb, bright LED widescreen, HDMI out at 1080 resolution, webcam which has face-recognition authentication, 10 key number pad, decent altec lansing speakers, stay cool keyboard, quiet fan, averaging 10+ hour battery life.

negative: windows 7 premium 64bit OS is a bit buggy with 32bit apps and device drivers , no built-in bluetooth, fingerprints left on black brushed aluminum case, maximum capacity of 4gb ram.

The laptop uses the su7300 Intel core 2 duo processors, which in my opinion is more than adequate for a poweruser. I can run adobe CS4 suite, MS Office, several different browsers and VMware workstation running 2 VMs (2003 server and Fedora Core11) all at the same time.

I was considering buying a Macbook pro laptop but after seeing this at my local BB store, I bought it on impulse and am more than happy with this purchase. Best laptop I have ever bought, i'm official done with HP, Lenovo, and Acer brands.

Honest reviews on ASUS UL50AG-A2 Thin and Light 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - 12 Hours of

First, some background:

I've been a Mac user for 10 years or so as my primary machine. I use a MacBook Pro and OS X as my work machine and needed a secondary laptop for personal use.

I couldn't justify dropping $2,000 for another MacBook Pro so close to Christmastime, but I could justify $600 to $700 for this unit. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and love it.

The Good:

While it does not have the claimed 12 hour battery life, you can easily get 7-10 hours out of it depending on how you configure brightness etc. More than enough to make it a joy to use.

The screen is 15.6 (call it 16" widescreen) and is bright and crisp with plenty of room to work in.

Chicklet keys are really nice touch. In general the unit is really solid and fast.

The one year warranty ASUS has is unusual in that it covers spills and drops. Other manufacturers have this available but you have to pay for it. Comes standard with ASUS.

The Bad:

As other reviewers before have said, there is a very slight flex in the keyboard, but to me it is not noticable, nor do I really care because it doesn't affect my typing.

The exterior black is a neat finish but again, as other reviewers have stated, it is a fingerprint magnet. Not too much of a concern for me though because the machine is a joy to use. Really. It is. If you buy this you will not be disappointed.

The Ugly:

I've tried really hard the past two weeks to find something wrong with the machine and really the only thing that is bad about it is that it runs Windows 7 rather than OS X. Windows 7 is not a bad OS and on this machine it is quite fast, particularly if you don't load up a new laptop with software right when you get it, but rather install one program a day to see if any give you problems.

Final recommendations:

Strongly recommend two things with the purchase of this unit. One is the Microsoft ARC Wireless Mouse. Very cool.

The other is a Backblaze account for set it and forget it, backup. . Get the $50 per year account rather than the $5/month and for less than five bucks a month you will have offsite backup and peace of mind.

In terms of how this unit compares to the MacBook Pro?

The MBP is undoubtedly a more solid machine and the solid aluminum carved block is a joy to use. But if you don't have the money for it and if you need a solid, reliable unit that is fairly similar, this ASUS is a really solid choice; and at $600 to $700, you're not going to find anything comparable to it in the PC line. Trust me, I know. Before buying this unit at Best Buy, I looked at ThinkPads, ACERs, HP, Toshiba, Sony and DELL.

I'm sold on ASUS.

Hope this helps!

I bought this computer mainly because of the claims made about the battery life. I am in college and my laptop goes everywhere that I do. I use a laptop to take lecture notes in all of my classes and on days when I am on campus for 5 plus hours, I really needed to step up the battery life. So, I put my HP to rest and went with this, the Asus ul50ag-A2. This particular model is great! The battery claims are correct. I have been getting easily 8 to 9 hours worth of battery life and I could get even better if I wanted to keep tinkering with the power settings. The ultra-low voltage processor runs just fine, fast enough for me!The quality of this laptop is awesome. It feels very sturdy and well-made. It looks very sleek. All black with a black brushed aluminum finish, LED screen, blue lights, and a very cool "smart-pad" mouse that blends right in with the rest of the computer. I especially love the way the smart-pad works, very much like the mouse on a Macbook, with two-finger scrolling and three-finger tapping that can be used as the right-click function (don't worry, there is also a button for right and left-clicking). So far, I have not had any problems with overheating, but the computer is still relatively new to me (the ice cool palm rest also helps). I also would like to point out that the computer is thin and light. It fits in my book-filled backpack and does not add much more weight at all. I feel safe saying that this is the best laptop I have purchased yet and I will continue to use Asus in the near future. It is easily comparable to computers in the 1000 dollar plus range.

I bought mine for $329 at Office max when they had an $100 off sale. It was a deal sealer. They said this model just came out, and it was top of line. Its an very attractive model over ASUS which is two tone with Silver and I hated that. This is my first HP and I love it.

This laptop boots up to useable screen in 3 seconds! And I set mine to shut down when the lid is shut.

It comes with windows 8 and you can switch to windows desktop with a push of the screen or by pressing window button on the keyboard. I believe windows 8 is far superior to windows 7 and the touch screen is a real nice item! I bought this after looking at a bunch of them and decided I wanted touch screen & windows 8-with desktop like windows 7. The start button is missing but its coming back in the next update. I'm using short cuts to 'my computer' and 'my documents' to get around it.

The screen is very vibrant to look at, has 2 USB 3.0 ports, and one 2.0port that I use for a wireless mouse. it has HDMI hook ups for HD external monitor and it appears to have an express card slot, VGA, and built in Ethernet for connecting to the internet if you don't have access to wireless.

It doesn't play DVDs with an external DVD player unless you have a program like cyberlink 8 or betterI just happened to have one laying around, those programs can be expensive. I bought the LG external player for $20+ and I used it to install software too and its very portable.

The computer is pretty fast and I had no problems installing stuff. It has 500 Gb hard drive plenty of space, 4 gigs of ram and I believe its upgradable to 8 gigs.

I have to say its the best laptop I have ever purchased.. lightweight, very portable, fast, very attractive, and you're up and running very quick.

I needed a small laptop with a wired Internet connector (to use in hotels--their wi-fi is often not free, and often isn't very responsive). This unit more than met my needs, and has Windows 8 and a touch screen to boot. There is a LOT of capability here for a VERY reasonable price.

The touch screen and Windows 8 work very well together, but of course Windows 8 takes some getting used to if you're not already familiar with it. Having the touch screen makes that a LOT easier.

The main thing I notice about this laptop is how nicely it is designed. The connectors, the keyboard, the lights, the case, the screen -everything just oozes quality and good engineering. HP must have hired some designers away from Apple, because this is a NICE machine, along the lines of Apple's famous hardware. It's not the fastest thing in the world, but after all it's a low-cost laptop.

There's no optical drive in the computer, and I haven't yet hooked it up to an external drive and tried to load any software. Based on other reviews, I don't expect any problems. I haven't used the machine on battery power, but it seems to have ample battery life. It gives you battery reports in percent remaining AND an estimate of what that translates to in time. I imagine that this is a Windows 8 feature, but whoever put it in, it's nice to have.

Looking for a laptop to go to Florida that was not as bulky as my 15 inch, or as heavy I picked this up on sale and as of two days it seems a really good buy. It is quick, loads quick has windows 8 which I am getting used to and I am getting used to the key placement although I wush it had a back lit keyboard and as you know it doesn't have a cd dvd drive. Other than that for a little more than 350 I am very satisfied

I love this laptop. I can't say enough good things about it. It's sleek, light, fast, with enough RAM to get the job done and I have always preferred an Intel processor to an AMD. The keyboard is a traditional keyboard with a number pad on the right. It comes with really cool face recognition software for logging in. It also comes with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 which is really great. It's not a trial program either. Except that it's missing the ability to track changes, etc. most of the common Word features are there. There was some bloatware but nothing you can't get rid of in fairly short order. I couldn't be happier and this was a good price! I got it cheaper at Lenovo Outlet than what they have here on Amazon and the Outlet comes with a 1 year depot warranty.

I've had this laptop for over 2 years and now that I've ordered a desktop, I figured now is the perfect time to review it. 2 years ago, this laptop would have had great reviews from me; it was fast, sleek, and top of the line. But now that I've had it for such a long time, I've become pretty dissatisfied for what it had become. The laptop came with a bunch of useless programs that most people will never use and only takes up time and memory. The integrated graphics card makes it impossible for higher level rendering or gaming. The internet reception is verrrry poor if you're using wifi. The laptop overheats like a dog in the summertime even without any dust in the system. The keyboard is great, but one of the keys came loose a few months after buying it. The quality is poor as well. One of my friends accidentally dropped my bag with this laptop in it from about three feet and the disk reader slot came apart. Soon after, the power plug part broke off and made it very difficult for the laptop to charge. The USB ports became loose in a short amount of time and the left hinge of the screen came apart for no apparent reason a few months later. It has served me well over the past few years but please do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere.

I got this for college and love it! It runs almost silently and doesn't get overheated even with multiple programs/windows open (I may get a cooling thing if I decide to get more intensive games but barring that it does just fine by itself). For this price, probably one of the best deals you're gonna find. I spent months looking at different laptops and was pointed to Lenovo by a friend. I'm very glad that I listened to him.

Sleek, impressive speakers, crisp images, quick, multi-tasks really well, and the keyboard is very comfortable (which is always something I worry about for some reason). Battery hasn't been a problem, but I have the cords in my backback with me just in case, mostly for when I have rehearsals without clear time requirements.

Not the most comprehensive review anyone will have ever read but if nothing else, I would highly recommend this computer to anyone.

Also, it isn't that big a deal but facial recognition log-in via the camera makes me feel like a secret agent. Huge plus for that one Lenovo!

We have had this for about 2 months. It has performed well with reasonable speed and connects to the wireless with no issues. I was looking for a low cost solution for my wife and 2 kids to use. Amazing to think that it is a requirement for 3rd grade to have a flash drive .... I do not like to wait for machines to work and I wanted something with some speed that would not have to be replaced next year. This looks like it will do the job.

I love this laptop for all the reasons so many other reviewers have indicated, such as its considerable power and its incredibly beautiful, resolute screen. Thankfully, my unit seems to have mostly escaped the issue where the upper left corner of the screen comes unglued (knock wood!) I've got a very minimal protrusion there, but it doesn't seem to be worsening over time so far, and it's a minor enough issue that I'd probably just glue it if it got worse. Unfortunately, I was plagued by the maddening "touch screen stops working when the lid is closed and doesn't work until next cold-boot" issue, and after some time, the touch screen stopped working entirely, save for occasional very erratic points where it would spring back to life. I thought for sure it was a hardware problem and was tearing my hair out wondering whether to get another one or just jump ship to another model, which would have been a terrible shame as I absolutely love this machine. But I'm a stubborn SOB, and had a feeling there might be something more going on than meets the eye. After way too many hours spent trying everything imaginable, I finally stumbled upon the solutions to both forms of touch screen failure the failure upon closing the lid and more semi-permanent failure are both caused by simple, stupid bugs arising from the particular combination of Asus' touch screen interface design and Windows' USB power management algorithms. If your touch screen is going out when you close the lid, you probably have set the computer's power settings so that it "does nothing" upon closing the lid. Changing this setting to "sleep" after first restoring touch functionality, of course fixed the problem instantly and permanently for me, though this will probably only work if you first go into the Windows Device Manager and find the touch screen device it's a "USB Input Device" under the "Human Interface Devices" heading right click and go to "Properties", go to the "Power Management" tab, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". The more permanent-seeming touch screen failure was instantly resolved by disabling the "USB Selective Suspend" feature in the power settings and cold-booting. So if you're having touch screen problems, chances are excellent that your touch screen is actually fine, and all you need to do is change all the settings as I've indicated here, cold-booting first if necessary to bring the touch screen back to life before you start. Hope this helps someone!

I've had this computer for a couple weeks but having experience with laptops, this one is very well built and is exceptional in every way...mostly anyway.

Not sure what the one star is complaining about because this is backwards compatible and works fine with my router which is not "N". Also, for its size, it is NOT heavy. There are many more that are worse that are not near as good. Battery life also is not bad but not the best. I get four hours of regular use. A little less if using heavy. It does have BT 4.0 which has been fast for me. The 8gb ram and I7 make this smokin' and when SSD's get cheaper, i plan on putting one in! This is not an ultrabook so the one star should go find a machine that is tiny and not serviceable!

Anyway, great screen with touch! I have not had any issues like some have reported. There are a couple things that some may not like. One is light bleed under keys on backlit keyboard and two, finger prints. It is a magnet for them. Also, not sure what they were thinking about when they made the power supply...

Outside of those few minor things, this machine is smokin' fast and worth every penny! It isnt a gamers machine but plays most games very well. But then again, i'm not a true gamer and don't care to be! If you are, you would be better suited to find a dedicated graphics machine.

All in all, i love it and if you are a daily user doing some office work and watching a movie or listening to music, this is the machine for you!

Thanks!

This is a very nice laptop for the price. Most other laptops with all the same features are well over 1000.00. I purchased mine at Bestbuy for 849.00. The only thing so far that I do not like about it is the speakers which are on the bottom of the laptop. why would anyone put speakers on the bottom of the laptop. I use a headset for my sound and that makes it much better.

Very fast and responsive. The touch screen is very nice and as far a finger prints all touch screens get finger prints so I do not feel that is a major concern.

Would definitely recommend this to my closest friend which I actually did.

We have noted various other computers while both shopping and helping solve our family's various computer issues, so I knew about what I wanted when it came time to replace our 10 year old IBM T23 Think Pad. Price was also a factor in our selection and frankly I simply wanted a Lenovo having had a long and very good experience with my T23. Lenovo is continuing the tougness of the past generation of IBM laptops.

The Lenovo G530 is really a fantastic laptop. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the $1200 laptops have, but it is extremely quick in doing everything I need when I go online. There is tons of storage space with a 165 gig Hard Drive, plus tons of memory-and I am even starting to like Windows 7. I may eventually go back to Linux Ubuntu distro which is my OS of choice.

The Lenovao G530 has a very bright wide screen moniter. All functions are responding well. Lenovo has continued the IBM PC and Laptop appearance, and I chuckle at the black matte finish and think: "something only a mother could love." Don't worry about appearances, they still have the toughness that I enjoyed for years with my T23. Imagine going from 30 gig hard drive up to 165 gigs, and the same relative improvements on the processor speeds and memory capacity. This unit literally flies from on web page to another. The visual properties of the 15.4 inch monitor as well as the more than adequate sound card give good performance for enjoying videos as well as extended listening to your favorite audios through Windows Media which is included in the Windows 7 Premium OS.

I plug in my Koss PortaPro Headphones and hear every detail of the music. The sound card gives crisp digital audio performance that you will really enjoy. I'm not an audiophile but enjoy listening to a lot of good music and I appreciate the sound that I get with the Lenovo G530

We are very satisfied with this purchase which arrived from Amazon in just two days. We used the $40 Amazon Vista rebate so the entire purchase was $400.00 which is a very good value for a laptop with the large screen and obvious quality and speed. A tip that works for me, instead of paying extra to buy Windows Office, we installed Open Office which works great for me both on Windows 7 and our Linux OS which I have on our Dell Desktop PC.

I recommend this computer and feel you'll get many performance features that you get on computers that cost much more. I have owned Gateway, Dell, HP and IBM and much prefer the current Lenovo G530 to all of them. Our Dell Desktops are recent purchases. The G530 has quickly taken over as my favorite. Great Value, Very Fast, and Built Tough.

Love this computer... its having Windows 7 doesn't hurt either. It's fast, and feels good & solid (not like some of the cheaper models that almost feel like toys that'll break at the drop of a hat). We have another laptop we recently purchased at a local store this other one, besides feeling 'cheaper' has a dvd/cd tray that doesn't have the button to open the drive. This Lenovo has that simple feature I never appreciated before.

It runs nice & cool (amazingly cool, actually), great picture quality (gotta catch the recent NCIS episodes!) and the keyboard feels good to use.

The black matte finish keeps it looking nice (without fingerprints, etc) too.

Probably my only very minor complaint is that the place to plug-in the earphones (and microphone/alt audio-in) are at the very front which makes them inaccessible when I use my laptop cradle (which sets the laptop at an angle, resting against something on that bottom/front).

Oh, and I absolutely love the feature that allows me to physically turn off the wireless card!!!

This system is much easier to deal with than I had anticipated. I bought is based on screen size, price, and knowing that lenovo used to make IBM's laptops. Figured I'd buy it and then cope with all the new system joy.

Well, it did NOT come loaded up with crapware. I'm a real fan of that! I had planned on spending an hour or two removing unwanted bloat, but didn't need to. It works just fine for what I bought it for running some light weight stuff like word processing, spreadsheets, finance and a tiny bit of web surfing. At the price of this thing, I can afford to keep it dedicated to those business type tasks while I use my other machines for gaming, heavy web surfing, etc.

All in all, I'm very impressed with this, my first Lenovo. I'm fairly certain I'll go to them for my next machine as well.

I bought this laptop for my wife's birthday. So far, she loves it and has no complaints at all. It's not a fully loaded computer, but for the price, it's a great choice. One thing I noticed, though, is when you plug or unplug the power while the laptop is on, it makes rather loud beeping. It may be embarrassing when that happens if you are in a meeting. Does anyone know if the beep can be turned off?

I probably ought to have researched this purchase just a little bit more than I did, but I do like this laptop. It's bare bones, but otherwise meets the standards of quality of earlier IBM-manufactured ThinkPads. For web browsing, internet video playback, Inkscape, GPS map unpacking / updating, Skype/Google video chat and telephone calls, and photo uploading (the types of tasks I routinely perform on my G530), it's fine. More than enough storage, speedy Windows 7 operations and boot / standby recovery times.

I use it regularly with HP's WiFi Mouse, Siig's USB to HDMI Converter, Sandisk's MicroMate SD/SDHC Reader, Belkin's Mini Bluetooth Laptop Adapter (for tethering to my Blackberry Storm2 9550, and Belkin's USB 2.0 4-Port Mini Hub.

The keyboard is first rate for laptops. Likewise, no problems with the trackpad (which features a scroll function along the right side). Operation is quiet, even when the cooling fan is on. And the unit never gets too hot. No problems with the mic or web cam to report.

But I do have a list of either "dislikes" or "things I should have considered before purchasing" that I think are worth mentioning. Hopefully these will give you some available features to consider before finalizing your laptop decision:

1. The screen is glossy, not "anti-glare" -which means brighter colors, but depending on lighting conditions, it can be difficult to view (or you may find you're looking at a reflection of yourself).

2. As much as I tether to my cell phone for internet connectivity, I could stand to have built-in Bluetooth. The Belkin adapter I use takes up one of two available USB ports.

3. The battery live is limited. I can get about an hour of streaming internet video before it's depleted. Not much more for just general web surfing. I haven't found an extended battery for this unit.

4. The speakers are lacking in volume output when something louder is needed, though the sound quality is fine.

5. To play online video from Hulu or NBC on my television, I have to use the USB to HDMI converter I mentioned. I'd much rather have purchased a laptop with HDMI out.

6. A built-in SD card reader would have been nice. The Sandisk reader I use is fine, except it's so wide that I need to use it through a USB hub because otherwise it interferes with the other USB port.

7. There's no backlighted keyboard, so typing in the dark can be challenging.

8. I'm not a fan of front-facing headphone jacks for those semi-regular occasions I use earbuds.

9. Part of me would like a numeric keypad for very infrequent use, though that usually comes with a marked size increase.

The narrow aspect ratio of the 15.4" screen is almost impossible to find on anything newer than this unit, which is too bad because none of the 15.6" laptops fit in my bag. (Boo hoo!)

Contrary to what I've written, I don't regret this purchase much -the price was right, the operation is solid, and since purchasing this G530 I've learned a lot more about how I'll want to use my next laptop (or, at least, what features I want in it). So I'm satisfied that I didn't overbuy this first time around, yet am able to do want with it.

If you're looking for a bare bones internet machine with enough processor to get through some drawing and photo editing, and will be close to a power source, I have no qualms recommending this on your list of consideration -especially at the prices you can find it for these days.

Seeing as there is not many reviews on this, and I happen to own one, I figured I would give my opinion on this laptop.

I got this laptop as a Christmas present in 2010 to use for general use and college in 2011. This laptop, so far, has held up very well.

The only minor difference between my exact model is that it came with a 300GB HDD and 3GB of ram(which I have upgraded to 6GB).

The laptop is excellent and quick in every day tasks, unfortunately it is now beginning to show some age. I have the free version of Microsoft Office and it can take upwards of 30-40 seconds on first time load (Restarts will go much quicker).

For everyday computing, this will be a good laptop. The screen is very crisp given the resolution. Web surfing and web games are quick and offer no problems.

For reliability, I can see this has been the most reliable, trouble-free computer I've owned. Granted, I take good care of it. It has had only one minor failure when booting one day, then the problem disappeared.

For gaming, you may want to look elsewhere. This laptop CAN game on older games, I can't say the same for newer though.

I regularly play Minecraft, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, and other similar games.

Minecraft will play decently on this laptop, provided you install Optifine and set the graphics mostly to low. I get about 15-30 frames-per-second depending on what's happening.

Left 4 Dead 2: EVERYTHING on low I average about 15-20 fps. Which is decently playable.

Team Fortress 2: Everything on low I get anywhere from 10-30 fps depending on game type. (Man Vs Machine is a FPS killer)

In conclusion, this game will be a good buy for those who do general web surfing or low power apps and maybe the occasional game. However, this is a 2-3 year old budget laptop that is reaching the end of it's life. A year or two ago I would have given this 4 stars, however. It's still a very good computer for those who do light computing, but anything higher than the games I mention will probably not be worthwhile. This computer was not built for that, and is deteriorating rather quickly in today's market.

Don't get me wrong, the laptop is good. Just not good enough given the current price. (350$ for a used, 400+ refurbished) If you're looking for a better laptop to game on, or do anything graphically intense; I recommend going AMD. Their integrated cards are much better than Intel's.

I bought this Acer in need of a large screen for living in Ecuador. I immediately loaded Ubuntu 10.3 on the system. It runs like a dream and never crashes as my HP did before. With a 15.6 inch screen, you will have more than enough desktop space. The memory screams with Linux as a motor. I like the large keyboard for typing, with big fingers, it surely helps. The HD sound card and video card work like a dream. I recommend the Acer 5745 over any HP product out there, it is Linux ready.

Overall a great laptop for the price. It's fast with good wireless, and a crisp, bright screen. Having USB near the power cord leaves one less thing sticking out when using a thumb drive.

As with any low-cost option, there are a few quirks, mostly with the input devices. The Synaptics Clickpad is genuinely annoying, but easy to get used to. No tap zones, so I remapped the left button to a middle-click to get that functionality. The Touchpad Disable Zone keeps the cursor from moving every time you try to click. The keyboard is missing number pad access, even with the Fn key, so no Alt-codes are available.

I have seen this laptop at Staples for some time and waited for it to go down in price. I picked one up for $469 and say it is an excellent buy. It is true that the touchpad is annoying but it is easy to get used to or worst case, get a mouse. For under $600, you can get an AMD phenom dual core CPU (3.0 GhZ, 2mb L2 cache) along with a decent integrated graphics card (ATI Radeon 4250). Has 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hdd. The webcam is decent for a built-in unit and the DVD burner is standard.

Look, I work on PCs and I ran benchmark tests on this PC and it outperforms mobile Intel i3 and even certain i5 processors with a better graphics card.

tested it out, and found out that almost every major game can be played on this PC. This can play anything from Civ V to Mass Effect 2 & KOTOR. For integrated graphics, it is above average.

Overall, this is a great laptop with many features. Good for making/editing videos, multi-tasking, listening to music, editing photos, watching HD video, and playing mainstream games.

*UPDATE*

I just upgraded it to 8GB of RAM. Does it need it? No. I did it because I could and it made things much better. I quickly became used to the touchpad and it runs fine. The only negative I see is that the plastic housing is a little loose on the front right corner. I'll keep an eye on it but other than that it's great.

bought this a couple of days ago and it's an excellent for it's price range. it's fast and quiet and nice and bright screen. yes, the touchpad is touchy but we're planning on getting a wireless mouse for it anyways since we've never liked touchpads in general. plus right now hp is offering 50 dollars mail-in rebate until june 2011 which makes this even sweeter.

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion dv6-3210us 15.6-Inch Entertainment Notebook PC - Silver

I have owned this laptop for several weeks now. I purchased a wireless mouse to use with it and it works great! (I never liked using the built-in pad) This laptop replaces an older Toshiba that was a great laptop. This one is faster, lighter, and thinner. The sound is very good for a laptop. My only complaint is that the screen has no contrast adjustment and when I got it the picture quality was poor.(surprising to me since this is billed as an "entertainment" laptop) And yes, I checked the resolution, etc. Everything looked kind of washed out, and not at all clear. I was ready to return it. But now, after going through the whole color adjustment process (see owners manual) the picture is a lot better but still not great (my old toshiba had a better picture from day 1). But I am keeping it for its' good qualities! It's a good laptop for ~ $500, and will hopefully last a while!

I bought mine in August 2008. It comes with Vista 64-bit but I found that some programs I wanted to install would not so I installed Vista 32-bit (CD & instructions were included when I bought mine). It does not have a S-video outlet(I miss it). I have not figured out how to connect it to my TV yet without S-video. After changing from 64-bit to 32-bit I had some minor issues reinstalling the drivers. I had to call GATEWAY SUPPORT. My problem was taken care of. I recently noticed that when I use any equalizer on any music player (Win. I-Tunes. Jet Audio etc) the music level goes down instead of up when I increase the settings. WEIRD!! I'm in the process of trying to fix that bug. The lay out of the KEY BOARD is not standard. The ENTER & BACKSPACE buttons are smaller than usual and I keep hitting the buttons next to them. The CTRL & ALT buttons are not where I'm used to having them on other boards. It has a 3-pronged power cord so make sure your outlets are 3-pronged receptables. It could be a problem when traveling on the road. Other than that I have no other problems with it.

I love this laptop. It's very fast, graphics are crisp, resolution is great. Not too heavy just ove 6.3 lbs. This is also my first year using VISTA so some of it has to do with the difference between VISTA & XP.

I recomend this laptop but if you change from 64 bit to 32 bit be prepared for some WTF momments. Oh by the way I tried to put XP on it but GATEWAY says they do not support XP on it. I could not get XP to install.

I guess if I was a geek I could find ways around it.
