I own one of these I bought from BestBuy back in Sept and I love it. Best laptop ever. I've played just about every game on max details and this laptop takes everything without a problem.

I love it.

I recived this ASUS G51VX-RX05 in the mail today. So far i am very impressed with this product.

Visually very appealing. White top with side and logo LED's.

Functionality-

The keyboard is very flat feeling with not much depth. The keys have a squishy feeling, while seemed to be placed in the right spots. have hit the wrong key a few times (specificaly the backspace key)

The reason i only gave this laptop a 4 star is that i orderd a new laptop but recived a Refurbished one instead.

On that note it came with two recovery disks and a driver disk.

everything was in new condition just missing the original box.

Im very happy with this purchanse but beware you will not be getting a "NEW" Laptop.

Best Deals for ASUS G51VX-RX05 15.6-Inch Laptop

Just under two years ago, I purchased an ASUS G51. As sharp as it is, I've had trouble with it, with ASUS Customer Service, and with the two-year warranty.

At the end of the first year, I called ASUS as the unit was overheating and powering down. The rep instructed me to go to the store and "Get a cooling pad and place it under the unit." Finally, a couple months (and a couple calls) later I told them something had to be done. The rep set up an RMA and I sent it in for repair. Why didn't the first rep do this?

More recently, I called regarding the power-cord cracking where it attaches to the power-supply. The first technician told me the notebook had a two year warranty but the power supply had only a one year warranty. What?! The second tech said that the first technician was wrong. He said that it was covered under the two-year warranty. Then he said that I would have to send it in (at my expense) and they would examine it to see if they would replace it.

This is not the way Dell cared for these matters. Dell would send me a replacement and a pre-paid return slip for my old one. In fact, the last time this happened with Dell, they said, "Keep your old power supply. We'll send you a new one free." I gave this information to the ASUS rep. She was unmoved. I explained that Dell had replaced power-supplies for my Dell notebooks, and paid for the return shipping on the broken one. She informed me that not every company is the same.

She's right. Not every company is the same.

And when it comes to Customer Service / Warranty Service, this experience has taught me all I need to know about ASUS.

Honest reviews on ASUS G51VX-RX05 15.6-Inch Laptop

I game a lot, and this is an excellent PC. Plays everything I can think of on ultra settings with nary a stutter. After reading the notebookcheck.com stats, I was expecting a lot less, but after six months I have yet to see anything even remotely approaching poor performance. Crysis, Crysis 2, Mafia 2, Two Worlds 2, Starcraft 2; everything runs smooth as butter. My next upgrade will definitely be an ASUS machine.

If you are looking to buy an all round quality laptop, highly capable of gaming, than i would definatly suggest the ASUS G51VX-RX05. If you go shopping at best buy, or even online your going to be baffled by all of these rediculously expensive gaming laptops featuring the i7, and the GTX 460....which is great!! dont get me wrong.......if you have $1500 to spend on a laptop :( which a lot of us dont

I had purchased this laptop from amazon about 6 months ago, and i will say, for the price, i am more than satisfied. It can tear to peices nearly any modern game on its native resolution, with the exception of Crysis, and Metro 2033 on its highest settings.

The laptop comes with Windows vista pre-installed on it, along with a ton of useful features and applications such as facial recognition, ASUS quick boot, fancy start(something like that) and a lot more. I never really got a chance to utilize any of these features because the first thing i did was install win7....i guess for every gain theres a loss, right?

The processor in this bad boy is amazing. No, its not an i7, but it can definatly run your games or any other applications seamlessly without a problem. And if need be you can upgrade to the Q1900(intel core 2 quad, 2.6ghz,12mb L2 Cache), which goes for about $225 on ebay, but the performance boost is well worth the price you pay, you'll be right up there with the i3's, and i5's.

The video card is the heart and soul of any gaming computer, or notebook...and this one has a heart of gold.

Under the hood is an nVidia GTX 260M, which features 1gb of DDR3 Video RAM...more than enough to handle even the most GPU taxing CAD software, or games.

Now that DDR3 RAM is on the market, a lot of people tend to underestimate the power of DDR2...which is kind of sad actually. This laptop has 4gb of DDR2 RAM running at 1066mhz, which is rediculous for any DDR2 RAM, desktop and notebook.

Now that we have the more important things out of the way, there is always the matter of aesthetics. The laptop definatly has a unique look of its own(i get a lot of compliments) ....in fact you'll be hard-pressed to find one with as many exterior LED's, and designs. One of my favorite things about this laptop is the illuminated keyboard, its so helpful at night when your just laying in bed and you need to type an essay, or your at a LAN party, and your in a more dim environment.

So if your looking for a good laptop, even for todays standards, just not for todays price....than this is the way to go.....6 stars amazon!!!!!!!

I have had a number of laptops over the past 30 years and this one is solid but not great. My last laptop is an HP. The set up for the HP was well thought out with the owner's manual right on the desktop. There was limited paper documentation with the Thinkpad.EDGE15 Amd P340 2GB/320 Dvr C W7-64 I wanted to upgrade the memory on my Thinkpad Edge, but finding information was not either intuitive or easy. I still cannot tell you how I finally found it. It is on the drive too but there is no direct button to the owner's manual on the Thinkpad. I still do not know what the buttons above the touch pad are or how to use them. I searched for that information too. Lenovo needs to improve their owner manual for this product. The information is there but it takes some searching to find.

The computer works well, but does not measure up to my HP. My HP laptop is a 17" (the Thinkpad is 15.6") and the numerical keypad on it makes a difference in usability. I cannot use the Alt key on my Thinkpad to create alt-key icons. My HP is also dual-core but was large so not as portable as the Thinkpad. Of course, the Thinkpad has better graphics and speed than my three year old HP.

Considering what I paid for this product, it works well for my needs. It is a good entry level product.

I got this laptop and the backspace button stuck a bit. There is an annoying red light on the "thinkpad" logo that is always on; on both the front of the cpu and right by the keyboard. This laptop doesn't come with a 9-key pad on the keyboard. 2GB is not enough to run windows 7 (64bit) smoothly. You could upgrade to 8GB but each 4GB card will run about $75, might as well spend the money up front on a better machine and get a better processor as well. It ran slow out of the box so I returned it and got a Gateway 4GB 500MB with a full keyboard and spent only 13 dollars more. I won't even think about getting another Lenovo. Lenovo is IBM's personal computer department that was sold to China. I'm glad they stuck to the mainframes, good thinking IBM.

My old Dell laptop broke on me so I had to purchase another laptop. So after doing my research, I decided on the HP Pavilion Dv6t Series. It was just delivered today (It came faster than the original ship date) and already I'm in love. It's the perfect size for me and best of all, it doesn't collect fingerprints. It's light and very portable. I'm playing around with it but it was DEFINITELY a good buy. Stylish yet extremely function-able for the right price. I would definitely recommend this laptop. Job well done HP.

I bought this for the 1920x1200.

But it arrived with a serious graphics problem.

HP are great and they finally fixed it.

NOW i find it FREEZES UP every day, without warning after about 5-7 hours.

I agree with the other reviewer. I have had nothing but issues with this $3,000 machine. It has had a new motherboard, then I was asked to reformat my computer, then a new hard drive. I'm still having issues. To HP's credit, they are in the process of sending another machine to replace this one, an 8760W. Hopefully, the next one works. I'm weary.

Best Deals for HP EliteBook 8740w XT910UT 17-Inch Laptop

Sorry, I hate to bash a product and sound like some vindictive newbie, but this EliteBook is the worst computer I've had EVER. They have replaced the motherboard 3 times, the sound card once, the video card once. These have all been separate visits. It has been down more than up. It is not a production machine.

HP support is great, but when you spend 2 hours a day trying to stabilize something your livelihood depends on it all gets a little old. It also seems unable to run a VM.

It's a $2,700 dog, look elsewhere.

Honest reviews on HP EliteBook 8740w XT910UT 17-Inch Laptop

I'm not sure why every review is negative. I have had several of these and never had ANY major problems. It runs fast, it is stable and there is nothing even close to the build quality of this machine. This is the best laptop I have ever had, and I have several others of the elitebook line. Take it from a professional laptop repair guythis IS the best out there.

I don't know about this provider, but I know about this laptop. It's without question the best laptop I've ever used. The AMD 7820m graphics drivers are tricky, as they are tailored to professional ISV applications, which most people will never use. Getting AMD's latest ATI driver will register the laptop with a gamer's card, a newer non ISV approved 3D driver, and better luck with everything that isn't ISV out there. The reason this laptop is so special is because of it's graphics card that outputs a billion colors without glitches to the appropriate external monitors. Also, it renders 3D quickly. This laptop does many 3d applications with ease. Rhino 4 works better on the gamer's card driver, but Rhino 5 64 bit runs the workstation ISV driver well. The max ram for the i5 560m is 8GB 1066ram... while the i7s had a 32GB max ram for the this HP 17" style. Additionally, now in 2013, the current software does well with this hardware, while when this system was selling, Adobe Flash notoriously caused a blue screen on 10-bit color and other workstation driver issues. Even disabling the AMD External Events only minimized the Blue Screen Kernel crashes from Adobe Flash. Now, everything is fixed with updates, and it runs without issues if you know what you are doing. I'm betting people's issues were on the consumer assumption, 'it should work'... no, this laptop was designed in mind with IT support available at the office. Today in Spring of 2013 it's a consumer friendly laptop after all first party and 3rd party software updates... and a powerhouse laptop of ridiculous proportions... but when this came out, it was a lot of horsepower with a tech savvy friend needed.

I received this laptop for work and was expecting it to be fast given the processor speed and the 4GB of RAM. So far, I have been disappointed in the speed of this machine. I find that it freezes when I just have one Excel spreadsheet open. This happened to me on multiple occassions since I received the laptop, but not all the time. It seems that it freezes randomly.

I would normally suspect something new with the machine that is causing the problem, since I upgraded from a lesser machine recently. For example, maybe it's Windows 7 Professsional or Office 2007. This is not the case since I had the exact same operating system and applications on my previous laptop.

On a positive note, I really like the integrated mouse features, as you can customize them however you like. Some of the great features are: ability to zoom using gestures similar to Apple's iPhone, fast scrolling, button customization, and more.

Ill be quick about this. I rated it 4 but its more of a 3.5

Pros:

Speed. Ram and processor live up to expectations. Windows 8 running super good, and even though im not a big fan of the OS, Im learning to deal with it. CAnt imagine what itd be like running 16gb, which it can be upgraded to.

Storage. Almost a TB storage. Need I say more?

Aesthetics. It looks pretty.

Cons:

Touchpad can be weird sometimes. It might be I have to tweak the sttings but it just doenst feel right at times.

Screen could use a bit more detail, clarity...resolution? DOnt know what the term is here. DEfinitely not the sharpest or clearest screen in the market

USB ports. With only 2 ports, I find myself wanting at least one more.

So for the price? great buy, but dont expect the fanciest of laptops. Its still a decent looking machine

The computer is ok, but the touch pad is a huge problem for me. It is too sensitive or doesn't work right. I also had a windows update problem where it would take forever to restart because of updating. The pc works fine when you plug a mouse in it.

Laptop arrived today!

I've been learning Windows 8 and figuring out everything I can with this laptop and so far it's been amazing! Terrific picture quality and great sound! Apps run smoothly, Netflix and iTunes work great! Everything I could want in a laptop for school and work. So slim and light. I've only had it for the day but so far it's everything I wanted. Great buy and Great price!! Being someone who is not very tech savvy I found this laptop easy to use and learn. Also it's so quiet when running programs and even just starting up. I totally recommend this laptop for everyone.

The CD/DVD player worked great for me and my ipod hooked up to the laptop and works great.

Overall I like the computer but the track pad is so sensitive that by merely resting my left wrist on the computer it swishes the window that I am working on away and I have to search for it. Windows 8 is probably the biggest issue as it is a totally unintuitive operating system and requires extra steps for simple functions. You have to completely exit a document just to save it. And while I understand this is not the computer itself, it is what is running the computer.

It is not too heavy and the screen size is great. It seems to charge pretty quickly and works well, so far.

I bought this laptop from Micro Center because I saw it on sale for $279 and needed a new computer. I basically try to keep things until they go bad, my computer previous to this one was like a 1996 Award Tower with a basic Dell Screen. Very slow, with a 6 GB hard drive. It got to the point where it was too slow for me to do my work efficiently and couldn't even watch 360p videos on Youtube. I always try to save money and try to purchase items that offer the most for the money. This laptop was an excellent choice. I've had it for about a month so far and I am so happy with it. The performance is excellent, its not sluggish at all, the keyboard is nice and comfortable, and the HD graphics and LED screen are wonderful. Two minor complaints I have is that I couldn't connect to my WiFi and had no idea why it kept disconnecting. I had to uninstall the Norton virus protection that came with the computer and then the internet is working fine. It kept blocking it and driving me crazy, so now that it is gone everything is perfect. The speakers aren't too great either. I work from home and have a two screen setup and wish the audio was just a little bit louder because I sometimes watch videos or the news. I would opt for this model because it is the Intel processor and you can't go wrong with it. The screen is 15.6 HD LED LCD and is a great size. I use it more as a desktop computer so its just fine for me, someone who takes their computer on the go a lot more might want something a bit smaller in size. The hard drive is 282 GB which is huge and coming from a 6 GB HD...yes 6 where I literally had to delete photos after uploading them to conserve space. The drive is more then enough. The battery life is roughly 4 hours, and when you have the screen dim it lasts a bit longer. I typically have the screen dim after a few minutes and sleep after 15 minute to extend the life. I have no problem watching Youtube videos in 1080p and the quality is fantastic. I have also purchased a TV show in HD from Amazon and streamed it and the quality is excellent. Even with the computer being a lot more expensive on amazon it is still a great computer to consider. I also love the HDMI input on the side where I have hooked the laptop up to my 47" Vizio TV and it looked perfect. My girlfriend has a Macbook Pro which is almost $1,000 more and I just can't see the point. She doesn't even have an HDMI port and it has a smaller screen and I can't justify why someone would pay so much more. If you want a laptop that is fast, perfect for everyday use with all the bells and whistles that come standard...this is an excellent choice. There was no reviews for me to read prior to purchasing which made me nervous but I still took the leap, hopefully this will help people who are considering.

This is a pretty nice notebook. The wide screen is crisp and clear. Default resolution of 1366 x 768 is quite acceptable. I paid 280 and bought a 4 GB memory module for 18 bucks. If you are upgrading the memory remove ALL the screws on the bottom of the notebook. Don't forget the 4 screws inside the battery compartment, and keep them separate from the others as they are smaller. All the other screws are the same size. Once all the screws are removed the back should come off. There are no ribbon cables to worry about. You just set the notebook upside down on a cloth on a table, remove all screws and pull the back plastic off. My fingernails are short and I was still able to gently pry the back off without a tool. If the DVD door cover comes off don't panic, just snap it back into place. Insert memory in the blank slot and screw it back together. remove the entire Presto, you have 6 GB memory. This is a snappy little notebook for under 300 clams. My Scores are Processor 5.3, RAM 5.5, Graphics 4.3, Gaming Graphics 5.7, Hard Disk 5.9.

Like Jared, I also picked this up at Micro Center. In my case, for only $249! As someone who remembers working on IBM XT personal computers, it is astounding to consider the power and performance that can now be had for a pittance.

I am an Apple user, but so far I have been reasonably well impressed with Windows 7. I downloaded Open Office (I absolutely detest the Microsoft "ribbon" interface) which runs great, and the machine streams movies well. BTW, apparently it is running a 64 bit version of Windows.

I did install 4 megs of additional memory at the suggestion of the sales guy it cost about $20 so I cannot swear the streaming would be quite as good with only 2 meg. I can also attest to the fact that you do indeed have to remove 20-something screws and take off the back of the case to install ram. Though the whole process still only took about 20 minutes.

The keyboard is a little weird, in that the keys are sort of like large Chiclets that kind of float over the body of the machine, which tells me it could get messy for users who eat while using their computers. This is the only weak spot I have noticed. It is also true that you have to burn your own recovery disks for Windows, but given the price, I can't beef about that.

Overall, a very good machine for the price.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire AS5349-2899 15.6-Inch Laptop (Gray)

My dear wife needs a basic laptop to do her Turbo tax and net surfing.

This machine fits the bill.

I got this from Fry's for about $280.

I added 4G of RAM on top of the current 2G RAM (total of 6G).

The machine has two memory slots. Mercifully, the existing RAM is a single module 2G RAM so that leaves another slot open (instead of having two modules with 1G each).

As mentioned in some previous reviews, there are 20 "long" screws in the back that need to be removed.

On top of that, there are 4 "short" screws (3 in a row, and the forth on the other side) in the memory bay.

These need to be removed too (so a total of 24 screws).

The screws were put in rather tight and I needed a wrench (on the screw driver) to unscrew some of the screws.

Putting back the back cover was a bit tricky. You need to make sure that the cover lines up with the two front circular audio ports (headphones + mike).

The machine came with little bloatwares and I did not have any problem uninstalling them.

The laptop is not the best looking laptop (I was spoiled by my daughter's ultrabook which came in an aluminum chassis).

However, it is not hideous either. It looks rather "functional".

The machine has an Intel B815 processor I believe this is a celeron processor (dual core) this is a low-end Intel processor.

It cold booted Window 7 in about a minute not too bad.

This is my "Window Experience Index":

Processor = 5.2

Memory = 7.1

Graphics = 4.1

Gaming graphics = 4.4

Primary hard disk = 5.9

I have done some web surfing and viewed HD contents on youtube.

The machine handle these tasks with no problem.

(as compared to those blasted netbooks)

I do not anticipate any issue when running Turbo-Tax or large Excel spreadsheets.

On the other hand, I am pretty sure the machine will choke on latest/greatest games or heavy duty video processing.

I could not comment on the battery life have not tested this yet.

(I expect this to be decent since the machine comes with a 6-cell battery and celeron processor is not that power hungry.)

The AC brick does not get hot that is good.

The machine is pretty quiet even when viewing HD content on youtube.

The fan seems to kick in very seldom and it is not loud when it kicks in.

The DVD-ROM is rather loud (when used), though.

I use the internet alot and three years is about the lifetime of my computer. I was a bit hesitant to go with Acer, but having spent $500 for a HP laptop just 3 years ago, I opted for a budget model. I have not had any of the issues that negative reviewers have found. The keyboard is very comfortable. The computer is very light compared to my old model, but faster. I've been advised to not get anything less than 1.6 GHz processor for using You Tube, and the 1.3 GHz processor on this model is more than adequate to view You Tube videos without issue. I'm very happy with it.
