I have had my share of desktop computers, and I used to hate laptops, mostly because of their not so finger friendly and sluggish little mouse pads. Well, I stand corrected. I have only had this wonderful little laptop for a couple of days, and it has converted me from a laptop hater to a laptop lover. Where can i start?? The mouse area is super responsive, the quad core i5 processor is so fast, that I almost think it reacts before I finish typing, The

Audio is quite good for laptop speakers, and The security measures are a welcomed sight. I plan on beefing up this already great machine by adding some more ram memory, and maybe a Usb sound care later on. I am glad to obtain a laptop with windows 7, and not the bug infested windows8 before they disappear. V. Godfrey

I thought I give me first impressions of this new Windows 8 Convertible.

First off the device is very slick, its light weight, looks great. It not the easiest thing to open but once its opened it works well.

As excited as I was to get this, there were several blaring quirks that I wouldn't expect from a $1500 device.

1. The wifi intermittently cuts out. This seems to be a known issue you can read about everyone complaining here. To save you some time reading the thread there are three things I did

a.Update the driver

b.Change the power settings -Set the Wireless Adapter Settings to Maximum Performance (both battery and wired

c.Update the driver properties

1. Bring up the device manager by searching "device manager" from the charms menu under settings.

2. Click on network adapters in the device manager.

3. Right click on "Realtek RTL8723A wireless ..." under network adapters. Click on properties.

4. In the properties box click on the advanced pane.

5. Inside the advanced pane set the following values to these parameters:

selective suspend: disabled (I think this is the only change necessary but I did the other 2 parameter changes as well, you can experiment with different choices)

selective suspend timeout: 60

WiFi config: WiFi

Click OK to save settings

2. There is no keyboard light, which have been on all my Lenovo work computer, so it's hard to see the keyboard in the dark.

3. When you flip the Yoga and try watching a movie, you'll notice the speakers are now pointed away from you! Even still the speakers are louder than the iPad.

Ok about Windows 8

The biggest problem with Windows 8 is that it comes preloaded with Junk! The start bar is full on things I will never use and there is a ton of Trial Wear already installed. I was particularly disappointed that MacAfee (part of the company that gave me this Ultrabook) was continuously popping up messages that were very hard to close with tiny buttons and dropdowns asking me to buy a subscription or register when as far as I can tell it comes with a subscription.

Once you remove all this and get things set up its actually pretty nice, however moving tiles around is hard work (not nearly as easy as a ipad).

There is no Official Facebook App, after some research you can integrate facebook with the People App but when I did this the news feed is different and nearly all the businesses I liked are featured and it is missing a ton of features such as unliking the businesses I don't want to see as full page adds.

Also the App are more expensive. Why is Star Wars Angry Birds $5?

User profiles are very nice and this is something iPads don't have. I am pretty happy with this feature and you can add picture passwords that work okish.

Overall once you get it set up I think it is pretty nice, I don't think the average user wants to spend the time I did to set this up though and I really think it could have been done better.

I got the Yoga 13 in support of my photography it allows me to have a fairly high-end computer in a very lightweight package, fully capable of running Lightroom and Photoshop and being able to process 18-21 megapixel images efficiently. I also like the touch screen and tablet mode for watching movies, viewing slideshows or just surfing. I have two issues though, that have made me sometimes wonder if I should have waited until there were competing models out there. (This was without a doubt, the most capable touchscreen laptop available at the time.)

First, the fan runs continuously, even when the computer is just idling. It can get quite loud when the system is working even modestly hard. This is apparently a well-known issue and there is no fix at the present time.

Second, the trackpad is absolutely awful. I'm in IT myself and have seen many many laptops over the years, and this compares with the worst, trackpad-wise. It alternates rapidly between being hyper-sensitive and not responding at all, it skips, it causes random effects... I've sent emails prematurely, deleted blocks of text, moved things around, etc. After a fair bit of fiddling with the mouse and synaptics settings it's gotten slightly better, but it's still much more effective to use a real mouse with this computer.

One other, relatively small item: the right shift and Enter keys are unusually small, leading to some mistyping.

On the flip side the screen and video are magnificent, the tablet mode works very well, sound is great, and all in a remarkably compact package.

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks. (Mine has all the same specs save for 8GB RAM I have 4.) I love it! Getting my programs and files transferred from my old laptop was a breeze and took very little time. I had an issue upgrading Windows 8 to the PRO edition with Media Center. Microsoft Tech support was outstanding (I know?) at getting me up and running in 20 minutes.

I have to imagine you've read all the professional reviews, and now you want to know if it lives up to it on the consumer end. I haven't used it much as a tablet yet because I plan to do that more in the summer. Also one of the first things I did was install Start8 to replace the start menu on the desktop. Very good software that is well worth 5 dollars. I move this thing around frequently. Battery life with heavy use is about 4-5 hours. If I am going back and forth to the machine, then it will last much longer. Every works really well out of the box, and it's speedy.

So here is the one thing I think everyone buying this machine needs to know. For me, it's not a deal breaker, but it was disappointing, and annoying. In my opinion, Lenovo needs to redesign the keyboard. I tried and tried to get used to the cramped shift key, backspace, and enter. I'm telling you, I missed them every time. So now, at my workstation, I use a high quality external keyboard and mouse and keep the laptop in tent mode. I LOVE this setup. The keyboard on the machine is above average for on the go stuff. It's outstanding in fact. It's just not something I want to use for long periods of work. So really, I have the best of both worlds. And for the record, I have read reviews that directly contradict mine. However, I think anyone buying this machine needs to know they might have an issue here. The keyboard issue seems to improve if you approach the keyboard off center moving your hands slightly to the left. This is hard to get used to doing. The other thing is, it would be nice for the keyboard to be illuminated.

Compared to my old laptop, this is a revolution. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would not hesitate, despite the keyboard annoyance, to repeat the purchase.

One more item. I tried using a bluetooth mouse with this machine. It performed very poorly. In my research, this seems to be an issue with Yoga and Microsoft Mice. I switched to a mouse with a receiver. perfect.

You will not regret this purchase unless you are planning on writing a novel in a coffee shop on this thing. And even then, maybe you will adapt easier than I did.

My guess is, Lenovo nailed the future of the laptop.

Honest reviews on Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen Ultrabook

I've been looking for a windows 8 tablet/touchscreen laptop for development work, i needed a i7 or i5 processer with a SSD as the primary boot drive. I purchased the Acer W700 first but returned it, it was very fast and well made but the high screen resolution made it unusable in desktop mode.

I had originally overlooked the Yoga 13 because of the exposed keyboard in tablet mode, but later after reading a review talking about about a second unused hard drive slot in the Yoga 13 (yes a tablet / ultrabook with 2 drive slots !!!) i decided to give it a try.

Lets get the bad out of way first so we can talk about the good in more detail:

My Yoga is going back it has a stuck/bad pixel, But i am going to get another Yoga 13 to replace it.

Windows 8 enough said.

Screen can bounce back at ya if you jab it to hard.

Single band WIFI in 2013?

Single channel RAM holds down performance a bit.

Difficult to to a do a clean install no OS disks or option to buy them.

To many partitions from the factory WTFO?

touch-pad tries to be jack of all trades but ends up being master of none.

The good:

The hardware is superb build quality is a 10. This alone makes up for all of the negatives.

The screen size/resolution is a good trade off for desktop mode.

Display quality and brightness are both excellent (even with a bad pixel).

Actually usable in all of its 'advertised positions' and you will find it will adapt and be usable in almost any environment.

If feels so good in your hands you will find it hard to keep from touching it whenever you walk by.

Very slim and light (for a laptop).

No issues with WIFI as other posters have said.

Room for a SECOND HARD DRIVE (very well kept secret).

Tips:

Make your icons on the desktop 'small' gives the desktop a roomy feel.

Turn off edge swiping on the touch-pad otherwise it will drive you crazy.

Learn and use the keyboard shortcuts in place of some touch functions (like F4 to close an app/window).

In tablet mode hold it 'hinge up' this places your hands on the palm rest area on the keyboard (feels good) not in the keyboard (feels bad).

In laptop mode angle the screen slightly back towards you this prevents some 'bounce back'. This also helps illuminate the keyboard.

While lack of a lighted keyboard is a negative the keys have a very bold white lettering that makes it easy to see by the screen light.

For those of you that are having wireless connection issues... go to the Lenovo com website, click the Support tab, and then click "Drivers and Software", then next to "Quick Path" type "Yoga 13" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Click the section that says "Networking: Wireless LAN" and notice that there is a newly released driver (June 6, 2013) that you need to download and install to correct your Wireless issues.

Hope this helps.

I hastily bought this as a hurry-up necessity when I sent my good laptop in for refurbishment. I figured for the low price, it would be a toy that I'd use only rarely. I find, though, that for a "toy" it performs extremely well. Not the fastest processor in the world but it is serviceable enough, and enough memory for my purposes.

When I streamed a movie last night I was impressed by the decent sound quality, both with earbuds and without. The keyboard action is a little stiff and I understand the rough touchpads on these models tend to deteriorate with light use so I would recommend buying a touchpad skin to protect against wear.

Great laptop for the price, not much else to say about it. Doesn't get warm, very quiet, and a nice design.

It did not work and cost me $24.00 to return to manufacturer. Still waiting for refund. Asked for return shipping label, did not receive. Would have cost me that much to have the manufacturer repair, so I returned it. Never had a problem with electronics for Amazon before. I bought it because of reviews, very dissapointed.

Bought this for my wife to replace a 4-year-old Acer. Ordered last night and got it this morning...

Right off the bat, the huge screen size mesmerized me. Migrating from a 14" to this with a much better quality screen was a pleasure to the eyes.

The system booted up quickly for the first time but I had to do LOTS and LOTS of updates including SP1. Toshiba never stops short of putting bloatware in its laptops sadly. But about 2 hours of "cleaning" made the laptop breath a lot easier...

The web cam sliding panel on the screen is annoying and I haven't found a way to completely disable it yet.

Overall, on looks I give it a solid 5 stars. I got the black one. It's shiny and very good-looking. It's a bit on the heavy side at over 7 lbs but that was totally expected.

The keys on keyboard are very comfortably spaced and are very responsive. The 10-key is a HUGE plus. The mouse is very tactile and responds great to the touch of the fingertips. It's supposed to allow multi-finger touch as well I think, but haven't had a chance to mess around with that yet.

It also comes with instructions as to how request your free copy of the Windows 7 upgrade. You can do so through Toshiba's web site.

The bottom of the laptop does not get nearly as hot as the older Acer used to, so that's a plus.

My first laptop ever was Toshiba Satellite (that was n years ago!) and only if I had kept that one and I could put the side by side... what a world of difference.

I left the BEST feature (in my opinion and so far) for last: The speakers are THE BOMB!!! They are hands down the best speakers on any laptop I have ever seen/owned. I owned another Toshiba that I bought from the retailer that sells things in bulk and it also had very loud speakers for a laptop but this laptop's speakers are both LOUD and FANTASTIC quality. The harman/kardon label says it all. Indeed one of the best features so far...

Again, it's been only 1 day and I spent most of it getting rid of the bloatware, downloading numerous VISTA updates, and installing many of the software she uses, so I didn't get to play with it much. But overall, I am loving it, and most importantly she's been truly enjoying it so far.

One little annoying feature I could've lived without is the volume buttons' system beep. These touch-sensitive buttons (located on the top right corner of the keyboard) are very responsive, but by default they produce a very annoying system beep every time one or the other is touched. I found through the Sound settings in Control Panel an option that let me turn that off which improved my experience with the volume buttons 100%. Before, sometimes after holding the + or button for a few second, I guess because the annoying system beep itself was glitchy, it'd get "stuck" and would continue to beep even after I let go... That's resolved now that I turned off the system beep associated with it. The touch buttons now function the way they ought to. The buttons are lit so when you touch one or the other, the light goes off for each touch indicating the volume is going up or down one notch. No need for the buzzing system beep... Anyhow, thought to share this...

VERY IMPORTANT-----READ!!!!

Last night, as my wife was using the laptop, it just died.... literally, the whole screen went out.... The power button and battery button were both on; the hard drive light was off; the indicators right below the screen (top of the keyboard) were all off; the power button was fully lit. The fan (yes, it actually has a fan... I found it, but it's SUPER quiet) was functioning but the keyboard didn't seem to respond....... Long story short after troubleshooting for at least 45 minutes and getting nowhere, I called the tech support. It was a call center overseas but the response was quick and tech seemed knowledgeable enough I guess; troubleshooting steps were exactly same as what I had already tried...... sadly, he declared the laptop dead at 10:46 p.m... Cause of death: Unknown (hardware related!). So the tech support tells me I have to ship it to their depot... nothing is done overnight! They would ship the empty box -ground shipping --, then I'd ship it back to them -again GROUND --, then it'd take them 7 to 10 business days to repair, and then they'd ship it back to me -GROUND! I am sorry, but my poor Sony laptop after 10 or so months of heavy use, started having problems with its Wi-Fi card; long story short, I had my laptop picked up, repaired, and sent back to me within 5 business days good as new.

Back to this review, Amazon at the end saved the day... They overnighted one for me last night and I'll have the brand new laptop tomorrow, and then I have to send them this one back... just like that. So as of right now, I am disappointed with Toshiba's overall customer service.... The laptop was doing fantastic, and I have no idea why it died so suddenly... but it did and it's a done deal.. Moral of the story: 1) Sometimes you just end up getting a lemon 2) You get you what you pay for. With the money I bought my Sony laptop I could've bought 6 (I am not joking) of these laptops.... and neither their service nor their product has ever stopped short of being perfect... I am just sayin'...

With over two years of heavy duty use, it's still working for my wife... The only thing that happened to it was a few days ago when both Enter keys stopped working... Air can sprayed the keys after removing them and nothing helped really. Since both stopped working and not just one, it's got to be either the motherboard or something deep within the keyboard. Took to Geek Squad who couldn't figure it out on the spot and didn't give me much hope. They suggested using an external keyboard, which we bought for it... but then it occurred to me that I had heard of such programs as key re-mapper. Sure enough, downloaded one such program and minutes later I re-mapped one of the keys she never uses on her keyboard to her Enter key. It's not as convenient as the Enter button, but she's so happy that she now has an Enter key that she doesn't care about the location of it! But I'd think in a few month or so, this will be retired...

First of all, this ia a LOT of computer for the price. I've had this computer for two weeks now and it is used several hours each day. I love that the RAM is upgradeable to 8gb, even though it runs beautifully fast with 4gb. The screen is great and I like the non-shiny finish of the screen, so there is no glare at all. The keyboard is the perfect size (for my regular-sized girl hands), and I really prefer the scrolly pad that the Toshibas have over other brands I have used.

This is the third Toshiba laptop in my household. We have absolutely loved all of them. This new one is definitely incredible, and the best of the bunch. The things that I find they all have in common are They stay very cool (I use them all on laptop stands, mostly Rolodex Laptop Stands) and they are beautiful.

The A505-S6973 is no exception. This laptop comes equipped with everything I could possibly need and more hard drive than I will ever use. I didn't find that there was too much junk I had to uninstall...just the usual Norton hogzilla software and some internet type software (netzero) that seems to always come on computers these days. I usually have to spend the better part of the day uninstalling, updating, installing my own security software, and cleaning up. With this laptop I only spent a couple of hours with all of that.

The speed of the processor is wonderful. The premium speakers are quite noticeable as it seems like most mid-range laptops have junky speakers. I would actually listen to music or watch a movie on this one without even having to plug in my headphones.

Lastly, this is one beautiful laptop. The shiny black finish on the exterior top and the inside has a cool, subdued, lined design on it that you don't see in the online pictures. It is sleek and smart looking. It feels solid and well-built. I would not hesitate to recommend this laptop. I have had the best of experiences with every Toshiba brand product I've had over the years and the 3 laptops in my household, now including this one, are stellar in their performance.

This is an excellent buy, and the best deal out there. It's no wonder why it's Amazon's best selling computer.

It's a beauty to behold. Beautiful black finish with just the slightest hint of curvy lined design.

Beautiful keyboard. Love the multimedia touch controls. The Eco feature button is great and easy to reach. The Eco feature easily can give you an additional hour or more of battery life. The 16" screen is bright and gives great color and great for movies. The speakers are awesome for a laptop! And the one thing that was really a surprise...it's super cool, as in the battery doesn't heat up. Everyone was amazed that after hours of use, the battery wasn't hot at all. It may get SLIGHTLY warm on the left..but not too much. If it wasn't, then it would be a near miracle!

With 4G of Ram, run multiple programs at once with no hiccups. On my Dell I couldn't run Outlook, Limewire and Windows Live Messenger without something freezing. This Laptop does it flawlessly. With the huge 500G Hard drive, PLENTY of room for pictures, videos and downloads (movies, games..etc.) My wireless internet on this laptop zooms.

For $649, you CANNOT go wrong! It is the BEST value you are going to get for this price. 4G Ram, 500G Hardrive, 16" HD Screen, excellent speakers, gorgeous styled keyboard and cover, Cool battery making using the laptop comfortable.

If you are looking for a laptop in this price range...this is the best choice, hands down.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite A505-S6973 16.0-Inch Laptop - Black/Grey

The Toshiba A505-S6973 Laptop is a slick, lightweight, very fast machine with an incredibly bright & clear display.

Beware!! This is a "64-bit" version of Windows Vista Home Premium, which made all of my legacy software (Office 2000, FrontPage 2002, etc.) obsolete. My circa 2007 HP 9417 Laptop with Vista Home Premium ran all the legacy software without problems. Unfortunately, the HP computer was a dud, but that is another review... Bottom line I was able to purchase used 2003 software (Office & FrontPage), which seems to work well.

Here are some things I like about the Toshiba A505-S6973..

Excellent Value 4 MBs RAM & 500 GB HDD

Incredibly Fast

The best display of any computer I have seen or used

Great Speakers

Lightweight for its size

Very Lightweight A/C Adapter with a very long cord

Here are some things I do not like about the Toshiba A505-S6973

The Laptop does not have a latch to close the screen. It is only a sprung hinge...

The touch pad is hard to distinguish from the adjacent areas, and the touch-scroll is integrated into the edge of the pad Hard to control

The keyboard has a very light touch and the space bar, enter key, and delete keys are way too small.

The input for the headphone jack is poor Partial connection, static, etc.

If you are planning to purchase or already own current versions of MS Office, etc. this is a great value. If you have legacy software with upgrades from 1997-2000-2002, etc. please beware.

I am not a computer tech type person like a lot of you so i can't give you a detailed review on what this computer does on the inside. I am an everyday computer user and I love this laptop. I have only had HP computers in the past and I took the chance on a Toshiba. I wish I had changed a long time ago. I can't believe the ease of installing programs and my printer. If i didn't know what i was doing a box came up to tell me. This laptop is beautiful and so well made. I can't believe I got it for this price. Everything came working with no problems at all. There wasn't a lot of "stuff" I had to take out before using it. The widescreen is great and I feel like i'm sitting in front of my desktop. I had originally gotten it for my daughter but I am ordering another one for her. I'm now sold on Toshiba. I went to the Toshiba site and filled out forms to get the windows 7 free. I had to upload a copy of the receipt. It said I could mail or fax it if that was easier. They will send me an email when they mail it to me in October. I didn't expect to get such a nice computer for this price.

The computer itself is great. The keyboard sucks. When typing you really have to punch the keys to operate, space bar does work as long as you push it hard. The key board feels cheap. I am currently looking to see if there is a replacement keyboard to replace it, no luck yet.

The intire keyboard flexes when you touch the keys. It feels like is will break very fast. No HDMI port as advertised. If you're used to Toshiba laptops and know they are generally durable, this is not like that. I can't believe Toshiba is selling such a shoddy product. I've had 5-6, this will be the last.

Tried to open/download the user manual direct from their tab and just errors, says manual located in a bad sector. I wish I could send this back but live in Latin America and it would cost too much. Do yourself a favor steer clear of this one.

When i got this laptop and started to set it up it frooze like three times so i had to hold down the power button to complete the initial setup. After about a two weeks of freezing up the wireless stopped working. I figured the freezing up would work itself out so that didn't really bothered me.But now the wireless don't work so i figured it was my wireless router so i upgraded to a better router. To my surprise that wasn't the problem. I had a computer guy i know looked at it for me and he said that the wireless card in the pc in defective, it would just dissapear and reappear when it feels like. After contacting the seller he told me that they have a 30 day return policy so i would have to contact toshiba, Wow. I am not in the country so now ill have to pay shipping to send it to toshiba. So now i just have a laptop looking at me. I wouldn't recommend this laptop at all. Be aware

I felt compelled to endorse the Acer Travelmate. I wanted a 13.3" Windows 7 laptop with 3rd gen Intel Processor and the Acer was the cheapest option I found by far. I couldn't find any reviews but I really like mine so far.:

Pros:

Lightweighta hair over 4 lbs which makes it almost an ultrabook

Full-featuredits a business laptop but still has a webcam and USB 3 port

Fastlighting fast so far. Acer doesn't bog their pcs down with a bunch of crap and its faster to boot up than any computer I have used. That includes comparable Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba models.

Inexpensivefound mine for just over $600. Couldn't find a comparable model from the other guys for less than $750.

Cons:

Not stylish in anywaysturdy black plastic, no keyboard backlighting

Screen resolutionis not as sharp as some of the newer guys. A step down from HD.

I picked it for its looks and it really is gorgeous!

It is fast, the touch screen is an amazing feature so useful in so many situations, especially with Windows 8 but even when reading pdfs and browsing web pages.

Its very thin and light. I love the backlit keyboard.

Sony has included some nice software with it.

Battery lasts around 3 h on medium to heavy usage.

I love how tiny the charger is.

The screen is bright and colorful, whites are very white. Full HD looks nice.

However, it has visible slightly darker lines on the screen (it might be a faulty screen, or it might be just the type of display) which is very annoying.

The microphone catches every tap on the the track-pad, keyboard, the body of the laptop and when on skype the other party hears it as very loud scratching, so you definitely need an external mic. And here comes the other issue the laptop comes with a single jack for both mic and headphones and if you only plug a mic it doesnt recognize it'and keeps using the internal one, so you need a full headset (headphones with a mic) to make it work. That was my work-around at least.

The keyboard has little feedback and makes it hard to type.

Oh, and the web cam is low quality.

....but this thing has to be hard reset at least once a day.

If you leave the screen on and come back to use it 20+ minutes later, you just get a black screen. You have to hold down the power button until it turns off and then power it back on.

If you surf too many tabs, eventually the system stops responding and you have to do the same thing again.

I've downloaded all of the updates from MS and Sony, but the problem persists!

Buyer beware.

I had high hopes for my first Sony computer, but this may be my last.

Let me preface by saying that I played significantly less than the usual price for this. I bought this as a return--but the computer itself was unused and SPOTLESS. Overall I payed about $630 for this and I definitely feel like it was money well spent. The specs are fantastic, the display is top notch, and it runs like a dream.

I really enjoy the functionality of the F keys, and the backlit keyboard. The aluminum casing is wonderful and so far I've had no issue of fingerprints, overheating, or scratches. Very very durable. The speakers are quality, the overall size and weight of the laptop is great. Even in a silent room, it doesn't make any noise. The touchscreen is a nice bonus and it doesn't smudge. Granted, I don't see myself using it much since I use Classic Shell rather than the app screen. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Now, for my criticism:

Because of my own personal setup, a mouse isn't something that I can use on a regular basis. That being said, the trackpad is something I am not used to. It doesn't have the proper right and left click buttons, so I often times find that it gets a little off center when I press down on the pad. Irritating, but not a huge deal. I'll adjust. I'd also like to add that the trackpad placement is awful. it'd be much easier if it were situated more to the right. I can't quite comfortably place my wrists on the edge of the computer without occasionally bumping it and sometimes clicking things. Again, just mildly irritating and I'll adjust.

MORE IMPORTANTLY: Because of some odd issues with Windows 8, I would NOT recommend updating the system. My updates froze halfway through (27/58 updates). I looked online to see if this was a common problem or if I needed to wait it out. As it turns, its a fairly common problem. I hard restarted my computer, and when I got back to the desktop, I did a system restore and opted out of updates. I don't claim to be any sort of expert (especially with Win 8), so if you prefer to operate on a fully updated OS, you may want to look into how to avoid this problem.

Given that my only issues are with the trackpad placement and Windows 8, I would give this a 4.5/5 if it were possible.

Also, to other Win 8 users out there: I would highly recommend looking into Classic Shell if you are having a difficult time adjusting.

can't find anything bad to say about this laptop other than Windows 8, which I absolutely abhore. reimaged it in Windows 7 and it works very well. for the money, I don't think you can beat this deal! it's not the fastest processor but boots up fairly quickly and the graphics are excellent. it has 3 usb ports and the camera and wireless connection work fine. i bought this model because of the hdmi connection and once again was not disappointed in the display/performance. I don't think you can find a better deal for $300.

The computer works great, but I wish I got windows 7. The desktop with the tiles is irritating. I don't like having to teach myself new computers, as I don't have the time for the learning curve. I just want to get to work.

Appearance4/5 The laptop looks great in its silver plastic. Although its plastic, you couldn't tell it apart from metal from a few feet away. Overall, it looks sleek and thin.

Construction4/5 It feels very solid with no creaks or loose parts. The plastic body does give in a little bit when it's pushed down really hard, but other than that, very good build.

Operating System5/5 I personally love Windows 8. It's extremely intuitive once you get the hang of it. It's fast and fluid, and the laptop comes pre-loaded with W8.

Touch Screen4/5 The touch screen is great! It's very responsive and has a 10-point touch infrastructure. It's easy to pinch and zoom.

Screen Resolution3/5 Screen resolution is average for a laptop of this midrange price. It's nothing spectacular, but it delivers and is good enough.

Features5/5 This laptop is feature packed. It has a backlit keyboard, no-button touchpad, touchscreen, bluetooth, wi-fi, hotspot connectivity, optical drive, numerical pad, you name it.

Performance3.8/5Performance is above average with a core i3 processor and 6GB of memory. The hard drive has plenty of space as well. Boot times are relatively low, but this laptop does lack behind other laptops, such as the Acer M5.

Speakers3/5The speakers sound VERY thin and tinny. Toshiba's Harmon Kardan speakers on its Satellite Series sound far better. But they're good enough for the average listener. Bluetooth will allow you to add your own wireless speakers, which is nice.

Keyboard/Mousepad4/5Many reviewers give the keyboard a lot of smack because the keys are a bit small. But even with my large hands, I found the keyboard to be exceedingly comfortable and good for long use. It's also backlit, which makes it easy to type in dimly lit areas. The mousepad is amazing and extremely responsive-feels like it was taken right out of a $1000+ UltraBook.

Battery3/5It's average. I get around 4 hours under normal use. 3-3.5 under heavy use.

Customer Support5/5Acer's website solves every single problem that you could possibly have. It is full of updates and patches and drivers. The support team is also very helpful.

OVERALLAwesome laptop and definitely recommend to anyone! 4/5

First off I'll start by saying i didn't purchase this laptop on amazon, however i feel the need to share my delights and dislikes.

Very short and simple, it works great I've had nil major complaints. Touchscreen is responsive, keyboard is nice (i love back lit keyboards), no lags as far as i can tell. I've only had it for a few days and it serves its purpose quite well. I'm not a fan of gaming on PC's/laptops (PS3 for that). There are a lot more positives i could ramble on about but i'll leave it for you to discover.

My only 2 main dislikes are 1. Battery life, i get up to 4hrs blehhh (may need some backup, also i do try to use battery saving methods, quick tip, always let the battery run down and then charge it without using, never leave charger in when battery is full) and 2. For a sexy thin laptop its kinda hefty. (which isn't a big deal but a dislike) (Heads up on the touch pad, took a little getting use to for me.) So if those 2 probs are deal breakers for you, you might wanna pick something else.

Can i recommend this, @ this price, yes if what you need it for lasts up to 4 hrs sure. (Does for me)

One more thing, i like Windows 8, ppl complain and bash it so harshly i don't get that (human nature?). Touchscreens go so well with it. I likes it. Not much apps and i mostly use Desktop. I keep changing themed colors and account pic ocassionaly (just my thing). oh and the WiFi issue people complained about, i think it happened once for me, but after an auto update, didn't happen again. If anything drastic happens as i further use, i'll update if need be. Peace out.

Cheers Acer.

The laptop was better than expected, especially for the price that I purchased it at. The processor is more than sufficient, the touch screen very responsive, Windows 8 easy to use (after some practice), programs easy to remove and install. For an individual such as myself that highly values customization, the ease of setting up this laptop for personal and business use was incredible. I am most definitely impressed with the merchandise, a 5 star product.

This has to be the worst laptop that I've purchased, the wifi keeps going off intermittently. Do the research online, it's a major problem and they aren't fixing this issue.

overall i think that this is a good computer but it is NOT good if you want to play games do to a horrible video(graphics) card. i run Linux because it seems to run the fastest on this computer. great for web browsing, word processing, and any other office program ( i use open office for Linux, but i would imagine it is the same for windows). In the end I think that this computer is worth the money new or used

Pro: A real nice laptop for getting use too. Its manufactured oh 2004-2006 and for me it was worth the purchase! The last month using this has been great. One of my lockup's caused a problem and since I had ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery installed, it allowed me to get the operating system back up and running. Everything works and I appreciate the seller selling this. Lenovo has an excellent WEB site for the R51 laptop and downloads, do enjoy this.

Con: Just recently found that one of the lockup's was due to the bottom USB socket, thats expected due to its age.

Summary: Thank You!!!

My son got to use this machine for exactly 1 day before it broke. It is now sitting in the corner of the room...I would have to invest more money than it's worth to replace the fan, so it's basically junk now.

Honest reviews on IBM ThinkPad R51 Pentium M 1.7GHz 512MB 40GB CDRW/DVD 14" Ubuntu

The IBM THINKPAD series is a great laptop brand. There fast, and cheap. They work for everyday internet surfing, music, movies, and business. However, they do NOT work well with games. I got the Sims 2 working, but thats it. dont expect to play high quality games like GTA IV or Fallout 3.

PROS: Good size, not very heavy, cheap, built well, solid speed.

CONS: Bad battery life, which is common in this laptop series, hard to upgrade software due to hard to find drivers, etc.

WHO IS THIS FOR?: Students, Office Workers.

WHO THIS IS NOT FOR?: Gamers.

My laptop arrived in 2 business days from my order date ! WoW ). The laptop is great for what I use it for and most importantly it was dirt cheap. I would say that the battery life for the laptop is rather on the poor side but the seller did tell me that it had about 75% in life left after I sent him an email to inquire. Laptop came installed with everything and also a 3 month warranty.

I purchased this laptop after a long deliberation surrounding make, model and features; this piece has everything and more for a laptop under $1000.00. The last laptop I owned was a Toshiba and it lasted me for 6 years. This i5 "Sandy Bridge" is quick and responsive to my multi-tasking needs. I just upgraded my desktop with the same series of processor and I couldn't be more pleased. The P755 has a great graphics card and built in USB3 port. The Harmon/Kardon speakers are a big improvement and provide very nice sound for a laptop. Overall, if you are considering a quality laptop that is going to give you a big bang for your buck, while sticking with a leading name in the notebook industry, you need to really consider the P755-S5270.

The laptop delivers an awesome performance. Its great Nvidia video card lets you play every game availabe. The second generation Intel Core i5 runs with a score of 6.9 and its ram memory at 1333 MHz runs with a score of 7.1 (on a 7.9 basis). Great laptop, a great machine which replaces the A660 series that were great as well. Recomended.

Short review, hello everyone!

This laptop is fantastic. Knowing quite a bit about computers, buying laptops is pretty hard for me because they can get quite expensive sometimes. This particular laptop is perfect in price and I would expect something like this to be in the 900-1100$ range for what is provided in it. This laptop has the new series i5 cpu and I can get around 3.0 GHz at full performance. In comparison, with the GT540M graphics card I can run Oblivion at ultra performance with everything on including 4X Anti-Aliasing. However, this laptop can get quite hot, I highly recommend a cooling pad. It is extremely fast and does everything more than I expected.

Another happy customer, great pricing and shipping from Amazon.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Black)

I have had it about a month. No real issues so far. Performing very well in all the applications I have tried.

Before buying:

Before purchasing I did some research on the web and I did a lot of comparing on processors and graphics processors on the Passmark Software CPU benchmarking website. I knew I wanted a Sandy Bridge processor so the 2410M looked like it. I also wanted to get the best GPU I could or at least something better than the Intel on board graphics. I wasn't as concerned about hard drive size or RAM since they are expandable later. I wanted teh 15.6" screen vs a 17" or smaller 13"/14". I did not consider any HP models due to past bad experience with a laptop and the reviews I have seen of some of their laptops and desktops lately. I looked at Dell and the pricing to get the specific components I wanted was a little higher. Not all Dells were built equally I could see. The ones on their website had better components than the ones on Amazon or other sites at the same price level. I had considered some Asus models due to the pricing but ultimately went with Toshiba due to their reputation and reviews.

Good:

Its doing everything I have wanted it to do without any issues. No overheating issues and the fan is pretty quite when it does kick on. MS Office 2007 is loaded and works well. No lag or bogging down with it. I have World of Warcraft running with all of the graphics settings on high or ultimate with no issues. That is the only time it really heats up. I like the USB 3.0 plug. I uploaded from my external backup hard drive in minutes what would have taken hours on my old PC with a USB 1.0.

Could be better:

I have hooked the HDMI up to our 52" Panasonic but was disappointed in the graphics quality both for movies and games. I had to turn the graphics settings way down on WoW to get it to run smoothly. The Geforce GPU doesn't seem to be able to drive the bigger screen. Don't get me wrong it does great on the laptop screen just don't expect to run a large screen at the same quality.

I did have some trouble loading some older software but that was due to Windows 7. I would have that trouble with any PC running Win 7.

The placement of the USB, power, and audio plugs interferes with the DVD drive and using an external mouse. I wish some of the plugs were on the back but looking at how it appears to be laid out internally I can understand why they are on the sides towards the front.

My biggest grief with the purchase is that a week later I saw the 17" version with an i7 sandy bridge (I think it was the 2510M) for less at an office supply store. Amazon now has this PC for much less than I paid. Such is the way of PC prices though.

Overall very happy with the purchase and would recommend this laptop and Toshibas in general to anyone buying a new laptop.

After three weeks of owning this laptop I have nothing but great things to say. My initial experience has been incredible. The second generation i5 has been able to handle anything that I've thrown at it. Battery life is optimal for 5+ hours. All of the games I've thrown at it have been played at 45+ fps on high settings and with DX11 enabled. Needless to say, I love, love love this laptop!

I just love this computer. After getting to know my way around an Apple I would recommend an Apple to anyone. I know they can be pricey but they are well worth it. The one I bought has some years on it but works like a champ. I have no problems and it is fast. I personal like mine better than the newer one because it is all white. That is something I was wanting and had to get an older modle in order to do so. Again, love my first Apple and highly recommend one to anyone.

I am a long time fan of IBM/Lenovo computer products have owned them since 1982. This was the first to be received in non-working order. Upon initial receipt,, the machine started up properly. I began loading programs on it so far, so good! Then, on it's own (as it should) it tried to download and install Window's updates. A disaster!!! Since I had already loaded the machine with a significant number of programs and needed to use it very soon, I really did not want to return it so I decided to take it to a local (reliable) shop. Bottom line: the Windows 7 Professional program that had been installed before receipt was so defective that it had to be completely wiped off and replaced with a reliable copy. Cost: $90. Programs had been reloaded and machine works fine now. I am happy to have a working computer, but am not happy that it was shipped in a defective condition.

This lasted 2.5 months. Finally just junked it out since I was in Israel traveling and wasn't about to ship it back and wait to get it repaired here. But this is a cheap, plasticky, flimsy China-made laptop with a "Thinkpad" sticker on it. I used TP's from a T-23 to T-30, T-42, T60, T61p, then a T400. Since they were too heavy and I needed to keep everything light, I bought this, foolishly thinking that Lenovo might have kept some of the ruggedness of Thinkpad in the design. Stupid me. What a POS this was. The touchpad is worthless, sometimes too sensitive, you can adjust it, sort of, but even just typing and with a piece of paperboard covering the touchpad area, it would just jump the text and start writing somewhere else in a document. No way that I could have touched the covered touchpad, so it's just something buggy with the connectors or keyboard/palmrest. Whatever the case, it was a hunk of crap that I ditched. The cheapo netbooks at less than half the cost are more reliable and less buggy/less cheap feeling than this POS.

I was a solid Thinkpad fanboy. Never again. No more Lenovo, no more Junkpad. Run from this POS or don't come back here crying about getting screwed with this POS, and losing your $500+

Fair warning is given!!
