Purchased this through a different online vendor.

I paid under $300 for this laptop, and for what I paid it's adequate.

This laptop ships in a plain brown Lenovo box, and includes just the battery, charger and laptop.

Windows 8 is nightmarish, in my opinion, clearly being designed with touch interfaces in mind. I hate it. I ended loading up a copy of Windows 7 on this beast.

The good:

+This laptop has a full sized keyboard, including 10 key keypad.

+This laptop has a very modular design. Pop open the bottom of the laptop and you'll find you can add extra RAM, or swap out the hard drive.

The bad-

This laptop has a screen with very weak viewing angles. If you're not staring right at this thing, it washes out. Not a deal breaker if you need a budget laptop, but very annoying to me.

This was on sale for 250 and someone bought it for me......My older laptop still had xp. I'm familiar with XP and Windows 7. My desktop has windows 7 (windows 7 being my favorite). I was so afraid about the fact that this had windows 8 on it and a Celeron processor....I've never had a computer with a Celeron processor, they have always been Pentium.

Let me tell you Being able do download a third party software called "classic shell" for windows 8, you essentially can make your computer have a regular windows 7 or xp desktop...which I did.......After installing classic shell and reading some forums how to change settings to the way you want, (which isn't that difficult at all), this is a total PLEASURE to use. It's fast, it runs extremely cool and is very light weight and the graphics are crystal clear amazing looking (to me).

The very first thing I wanted to do was check a 1080p youtube video full screen to see if there was any stuttering in the video. It was a fast moving roller coaster point of view video. Not a single stutter in the video......I haven't noticed any lagging and this does everything I want it to do.

I sort of ignored metro since, with classic shell, you can set it to ignore the metro screen and go straight to the desktop (just like windows 7 would), but after using the laptop, getting everything the way I wanted on it, I started looking around in metro and it's pretty cool. It's like you have a regular computer, but then you have a separate section for apps. Just like a smart phone, you can uninstall the ones you don't want (super easy) and go to the app store and install ones you want (some free, some not) and rearrange them in the order you want. I was just playing around..........

Now that I have got a feel for windows 8 and the availability of classic shell, I like it a lot and this computer is great. No issues at all. (I'm not a gamer though) but I do some heavy surfing and multi-tasking......so I know LAG when I see it, and I haven't noticed any.

Also , someone said Lenovo laptops are terrible with wi-fi, constant disconnects, etc. I haven't noticed this at all!

Hope this helps

The Intel Celeron 1005M is enough for light-weight tasks, like web browser and document process. Install a SSD and Win 7 can make it faster. Quality is also comparable to other G500 series

Celeron processor is so weak, but It worth the money. You can run every basic programs. Watching film HD is okay. If you run too much tasks, the laptop will be hotter and noisier. For officer, this is a great machine.

I'll preface this review with the fact that I own a Vaio desktop and a Vaio laptop and have been very pleased with both. Being a fan of the Sony Vaio series I sought out a new one and purchased this one. It was a mistake.

Immediately upon arrival the wifi would continuiously disconnect and reconnect. It was a pervasive issue on numerous networks so a little online research revealed that hundreds of people were having this same problem with this same machine. Sony support indicated they were aware and had been working (for months, apparently) to resolve the issue without success.

If that wasn't bad enough, the laptop suddenly developed the nasty habit of rapidly losing power and turning off. I don't mean "turning off" in the sense of performing a normal shutdown. I mean "turning off" in the sense of a rapid power outage and everything going black and losing any data one was working on.

This was unbearable, and combined the the wifi failures, prompted me to immediately return the machine. I would not recommend anyone else purchase this product.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program On first glance, this is a beautiful machine. It is sleek and thin. The keyboard is very nice with a blue backlight and the screen picture is gorgeous. If only it performed as well as it looked. I have had the same issues with this laptop as others have with my net connection going out and then not being able to be found. It has happened enough to make it using this laptop a laborious task. Also, this was my first experience with Windows 8 and I am not impressed. It is not intuitive and I much prefer older versions of Windows. Windows 8 would be better on a touch-screen laptop, which this one isn't. The mouse pad controls are neat but don't make up for the lack of a touch-screen.

Overall, I love the looks of this laptop but haven't liked using it much, particularly due to the net connection problems. I was hoping it would replace my old desktop but I am finding myself preferring to use my old clunker because it has Windows Vista and no internet connectivity issues.

Whoohoo! It didn't take me long to zero-in on version of choice and order my new Sony VAIO laptop and protection plan of choice…A great gift for self or others. Gratefully, the seller accelerated delivery time, appeasing my anxious waiting. My VAIO is a space saver with pleasing cosmetic slim line appearance, lighted keyboard. It's EZ to reprogram if needed, and has a high definition sound card along with numerous other user friendly features. Would I recommend others purchase a Sony laptop version of choice? Yes indeed! Why pay more than necessary for quality you deserve? I take care of my VAIO and it serves me well. Thanks for providing another wonderful product available for purchase online and special delivery which eliminated the run-around shopping in physical stores often presents. Offhand, I cannot think of anything I dislike about my new laptop. No regrets!

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO Fit Series SVF15214CXB 15.5-Inch Core i5 Laptop

This, aesthetically, is a beautiful machine, but, after setting it up, began freezing regularly. A patch was recommended (I've never had a laptop where in day two it required a patch) and still the problem persist. I should have got the HP Envy after all, but was sold on this because it was newer. Also, when I purchased this it was advertised as having a touch screen. There are two models I now know. The Fit and the Fit E, which is the one I wanted.

If this machine didn't have that freeze problem, I'm certain I would be quite happy.

Frank

I've had this laptop less than two months. It has had terrible Wi-Fi connection since the beginning, which I read is quite common. Today, the laptop started turning off on it's own for no reason. When I try to turn it on again, it won't work for the first few tries. When it does work, it turns off after a minute or two of being on.

I bought this laptop based on the previous reviewer's comments, thinking that I may have found a decently priced laptop great for my needs. I took advantage of buying the computer at a local Brandsmart at a cheaper price(hint hint) than Amazon prices. It's light weight, large screen, and the keyboard is very easy to handle.

My concerns after using my laptop for the past week:

1. The computer runs pretty slow for typical web browsing sites; I was very surprised by this because this is a brand new laptop and shouldn't have this issue as though it was infected with a virus that will slow down the processor.

2. There isn't a notification that warns of low battery life before shutting down in the middle of my work. I checked the settings and it is set to show a warning but for some reason doesn't show up at all.

3. The battery life isn't that impressive. I've had other laptops that I've used off and on, shutting it down when not in use, and this laptop doesn't seem to last more than a few hours of minimal use.

For the price, it's okay. But I am disappointed with the speed and battery life.

Purchased as a general purpose home computer for myself (53) and spouse. Never purchased computer online or through Amazon before this. Took the chance and am I glad I did. Very happy with this Toshiba. Built in wifi works better than expected. First couple of weeks I was using it kept waiting to find something on this Toshiba that I did not like. Nothing, no unexpected negative surprises or issues. Give both Toshiba and Amazon very High Scores. Thanks to both, just made my life better, faster, and happier.

Straight out of the box, I love it. I ordered my Lenovo laptop (4330AU) over Thanksgiving weekend. Paid $376 for it with free shipping. Received in 3 business days. I purposely did not want the latest and greatest computer, and looked for solid customer reviews before purchasing. This is my 3rd laptop and, so far, after only using for one day, I like this one best. For the money, I'm pleased. Some of the little things I liked immediately included: a 10-key pad; a textured surface that doesn't show finger prints (finally!); easy to setup with no added crap; fast; quick to connect to my home wi-fi; very nice screen (although seems just a tad bit smaller than stated size). This laptop doesn't get hot like my old one, and the battery life appears to be as stated (4 hours) while running several websites and the wireless card.

I plan to use this laptop mostly for internet, Microsoft Office, photo editing, PC games, etc. Nothing serious. If this laptop holds up even 1 year for me, it will be my best purchase ever!

Updated 12/28/12

I have had two cases where, after a long period of time idle, the screen blinks when a key is pressed. Makes it impossible to shut it down using the mouse, so I use task manager and keyboard commands. After rebooting, the problem goes away. Never experienced this type of issue before, and not sure if it's serious. I plan to look into more over the weekend. Other than that, still very happy with this laptop.

Honest reviews on Lenovo 43302AU 15.6-Inch Laptop

These were Christmas presents for my twin girls. Both computers worked great at 1st. But then the hard drive died on one of them. I had a major run around with Lenovo on getting it repaired. Their website told me I had to take it a local authorized repair company I tried this and after going to the 3 places they listed the 1st two told me do not make repairs on these computers the 3rd one said they could do the repair but just as i was leaving they called me back to let me know that Lenovo had just changed their policy and now they could not fix it. This company showed me the email they had received from Levono and sure enough the laptop was listed as one that they could no longer repair.

I then called Levono the following day and at first was told that I needed to take the laptop to a local repair company, I explained that that was not the case and I was put on hold for quite a while. When the person came back they said I was right and would have to ship it to them at my expense for repair. I was not happy about this but what choice did I have so back it went and 10 days later it arrived back with a new hard drive.

I will not be buying another Levono product again due to their service.

I find the Samsung JAO8US is a great computer. It's loaded with Windows 7 which is a great operating system. Important feature with this computer it has VENTS on the back so it DOES NOT OVERHEAT.

It's great for gaming, emails, download Amazon Music, download Big Fish Games etc...I can also watch movies and music cd's example Richard Marx Night Out With Friends and Stories to Tell the 3rd cd is at Shepard's Bush London.

After less than six months from purchase, the pixels started dying on my screen. I first went to the online chat and was directed to the service request. The form would not accept any characters, and there was no record of my registering my laptop (I always do). Then I called tech support who said I needed a serial number from the bottom of the laptop, there is none. It may have wiped away? No other numbers wiped away. I ended up going back to best buy who says this is a common problem with this laptop and with Samsung. Glad I sprang for the extended warranty because best buy fixed what Samsung wouldn't!

Besides the crappy display and customer support, the laptop does what I wanted it to do. I can create documents while streaming video. The video chat has been a great way for the kids to talk to grandparents and the games I play work fine. I would not suggest hardcore gaming with it, but I haven't had any problems with simulation games.

I'll let others get all technical, but this sucker is fast. I loaded Windows 8.1 and am still missing (or finding) beloved features from previous versions of windows, but that's an OS thing, not a reflection on the computer. Be sure to load the correct drivers! I love the touch screen, though am using it a bit like I did the mouse when it first came out (yep, I'm old) and am still not comfortable touching the screen (and don't like the fingerprints) but that will pass. I hate the bloatware, though there is less than on some computers. An example is when you try to play your purchased music, an HP subscriber service is the default player, vs. Windows Media Player. Battery life is good, the footprint is reasonable, but it feels a bit heavy, though reasonable for all the insides. I haven't put a dent in the 1TB drive and love the speed of the SSD. Color me satisfied.

This computer is great in many ways. It is just the fact that to view pictures or video--you just have to sit on one place or the screen is dark or silver. Yuck. I will see if this isn't just a problem with his computer. Cause I really do like the computer--even though you can't move the top back very far. I don't like that but that is not a deal breaker--the viewing angle is.

Lenovo ThinkPad T400 7417

If you're like me and can't live without the ThinkLight or pointer mouse then the new T line is for you. With the new 25w mobile cpu (P8400 in my case) it runs cool enough to not need an additional platform cooler while on your lap (it doesn't blow hot air either). From the first reports they must have repositioned the Thinklight because my doesn't blind me (it's inside the bezel more now I think). You might want to download the additional Keyboard Customizer program from Lenovo to disable the forward and back web keys that are next to the Up arrow. I kept pressing them by mistake and causing all kinds of problems.

Pros: Thinklight. pointer mouse (hate those aweful touchpads! disabled mine). thin and light. Great battery life even with just 6 cell. Single latch switch. Cool running cpu. Bought through Ebay (ellan_mouse) for only $750 after 10% ebay discount with no tax or shipping charges (now that's a deal!). Keyboard feels the same (not flexy like other reports). XP Pro still available.

Cons: Screen off to the right, widescreen (I like tall more than wide), lcd screen not the brightest and bad off angle viewing (might be good for security and keeping peepers away though). Had to install program to disable keyboard buttons (forward/back web page buttons). Speakers sound tiny. I don't know if it's my Airlink 150N router but I'm only getting 72Mb top speed from its 5100N wireless. Not as easy to add memory as older units (must remove keyboard bezel now).

Seems like a lot of Cons but at this price I am not complaining. I have a huge home system so my T400 is just a stripped down unit with XP Pro (not whista), only 1 gb of memory (everything running uses less than 700 Mb), intel video, dvd only reader (I use flash drives and only burn dvds on my home unit). Didn't make sense to pay another $300 for options (video, burner) that my home unit can do better and faster. I still use the T400 way more at home for doing most things. I just got the T400 so I don't know if it will last as long as my old T22 has (still running when I sold it) but I hope so! It may not be the prettiest unit but it's light, fast, cheap and practical for the discriminating user.

If you want a performance laptop with durability and reliability, look no more. ThinkPads have been the top of the line laptops for IBM and now Lenovo. I bought this for half the price of what a MacBook Pro costs and performed some easy installation upgrades such as Solid State drive and 8GB of Ram. With a Macbook you have to do a bit more work just to perform these tedious upgrades (Apple doesn't like it when you open up their products).

This Laptop is lightning fast, the keyboard is a joy to type on, speakers are great, webcam view is clear and the very cool thing about this laptop is the Ultra bay hot swap. If you don't use the CD/DVD recordable drive as much, you can easily eject it by pressing the Ultra bay eject tab and insert an additional battery or an extra hard drive for backups. This feature is very very cool and you can't do that on a MacBook Pro!

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit runs flawlessly (thanks to Microsoft)and by far is the best Windows version Microsoft has ever built. The BitLocker encryption is a plus which allows you to encrypt USB, SD cards, folders, files or the hard drive itself for extra protection. But if you want security, this laptop has another cool feature..it has an accurate fingerprint reader that allows you to associate any finger with your password(s). In other words, no more typing passwords to log into Windows. When you boot up your laptop, it prompts you to swipe your finger and presto! Without the finger swipe, no thief or intruder can wipe or access or remove your hard drive without that finger print. You can't do that on a Macbook Pro!!

Finally, I love the so called rollcage technology (durable frame inside)that guards it from those accidental drops. It also has a cool drain technology for those accidental spills...you can't do that on Macbook Pro!

So do yourself a favor, if want want more bang for your buck with all these extra goodies and performance, get a ThinkPad! I also highly recommend uninstalling any Lenovo software you may not want to use just to free up some space. I only use Lenovo update software, Fingerprint and Power Manager. Those are all you need!

$1600 for top of the line ThinkPad with goodies vs. $2200 for a Macbook Pro (without SSD or 8GB Ram)....the choice is obvious!

Best Deals for Lenovo ThinkPad T400 7417

The battery life is long 6.5 hour with surprising low heat. I can use it for hours without any burning feeling. The weight is just tolerable with big enough screen. It is the best laptop that i have ever used.

Honest reviews on Lenovo ThinkPad T400 7417

I ordered this ThinkPad T400 on Friday night and I received the laptop at 2:00pm on the next following Tuesday. What could I ask for more with the $220.18 high-end laptop, with no tax, free and fast shipping, and especially it runs so much quieter and so much more reliable than my over-$1800-customized-order HP Pavilion dv9700t CTO (it has been crashed like crazy because of the conflict motherboard and Nvidia Geforce GPU, HP has dropped the ball !) ?!

-The laptop came with clean installation and a copy of authentic Windows-OS Disc as refurbished condition from Tampa-Laptop.

-This was my first time to buy a refurbished laptop and so far the money was well spent! It just reminded me that the experience of buying a high-end or top-of-line-used cars, that is, you would get enjoying the "high-end/ high quality" for a small fraction of the original price.

-The courtesy service from the Tampa-Laptop computer was the reason that I wrote this positive comment.

Well, all I could say it: "keep up the good customer oriented service, Tampa-Laptop !"

Thanks

I purchased my computer new back in the summer of 2008. This has been one of the best computers I have owned. I usually replace my computers every three years however this one works so great I see no reason to make the change. This computer gets heavy use and works like new. Its on in my household between 2-4 hours a day without a single issue. This is my 4th Lenovo, replacing my older T61, and I was thinking about a T410 and see no need. Nothing special (besides tablets) has been developed to justify a new purchase. I would highly recommend the Lenovo T400.

I got this laptop because of its gaming capability, but for being a gaming laptop it does not want me to play any games. Every game I've downloaded so far either crashed before I could even reach the main menu or crashed when I'm the middle of playing it. I don't know whether it's windows 8 that's causing the problems or some hardware/software issues, but nonetheless it is difficult to enjoy anything on this laptop. The battery is very weak on it's own and will lag when it's not charging. Playing any game requires you to be plugged in at all time. I think I've gotten more BSOD on this laptop during the first day of use than on any other devices I've used ever combined.

I really do like the looks of this laptop, however. The specs are awesome and the laptop itself looks very very good, especially the red backlit keyboard. When I get lucky and a game actually runs, it runs very smoothly and the sound is just amazing. Though I'd rather go for a laptop with worse specs but is reliable than this faulty hunk of junk.

I bought this laptop to replace a very lightweight Sony that had ran Vista and was starting to have issues, both with the software and the hardware (keyboard starting to act up). This Windows 7 Laptop is heavier but seems very well built. I think I saw something about being built to military standards for durability standards (I could be wrong on this), but it seems as it very well could have been. As it is now discontinued, I got it at a tremendous bargain, $600 versus $1200. I love the Windows 7 operating system and it's speed and ease of upgrading. I upgraded memory from 4GB to 8GB for $33 from HP. Very pleased with this laptop, no regrets. I bought it to use primarily as a business tool with client presentations.

Great product. I also ordered 16 gig of RAM from Crucial to max it out. Love the Edge 531. It flies thru Photoshop! My only complaint is the display is lacking. Particularly for photo editing. However that being said, I'm ordering a 24" monitor which remedies that problem. I've been an HP person for years but after a week of intense research decided this was e best bang for the buck. So far I'd say I made the right decision....

My wife bought this laptop last week. This laptop looks very good. The keyboard is slick. Touchpad is sensitive. The screen is bright. But I can not run some application like Photoshop fluently, because the RAM Memory is less. I can not open many Chrome tabs. Some time I have "not responsive" from windows. We are so exhausted with this laptop and return it yesterday. We ordered a new one with the same price but the system is higer. That laptop has 4Gb Ram

You can see that laptop I've ordered here:

On black Friday, I purchased a HP dv7 from staples. The specs are very similar (My laptop has less ram and memory, other than that they are exactly the same).

I believe that this laptop is excellent. I have been using it for work daily for 6 months and am very happy with its maintenance of power and design. The 17..3 in. display is certainly not portable but excellent to view and thus capable of often watching movies on it. As far as aesthetics continue, the laptop features a brilliant chrome siding that truly captures the elegance of the laptop. I have taken the laptop on short journey's and found that its battery life is exactly as described. Even on high performance settings, the laptop can easily get 6 hours worth of battery life.

Beats audio fitted the laptop with top-of-the-line speakers that can compete with even bose or sony independent units. The computer is fast and has shown no major defects overtime. I run many programs on the computer and so far I have face no problems with anything. The graphics are excellent and the speed and battery life doesn't deteriorate quickly. It is a sturdy and good quality laptop.

Overall, I would recommend this laptop for all ages and all fields(except portability, but even there, it is sturdy and has a good battery life).

This machine has all the right stuff, widi, usb3.0 I7 2nd gen and a second bay for a solid state hard drive if you want to add it. Sadly it is only $849 at the HP web site or I would've bought it at my favorite site, Amazon!

Best Deals for HP dv7-6c80us (17.3-Inch Screen) Laptop

Bought this on sale as an upgrade to my old DV7 running Vista. My ultimate goals: 1) Desktop replacement and 2) Set up network storage backup drive using Windows 7 (more on this later). As with the earlier model, I always use an external, wireless keyboard and mouse -I never touch the laptop, unless loading media (USB pen drive or CD/DVD).

PROS: Screen (LCD vs. LED), sound (beats audio on the new model), and battery life (about 6-8 hours longer on the new model) were wayyyyyy better than the previous model. Awesome! i7 processor speed and Intel video are okay, but (anecdotally) my son's i3 processor seems faster when web surfing.

CONS: Since I almost never use the keyboard (this laptop just sits on my desk no travel or rough use of ANY kind) I was stunned when I noticed the "I" key had come off. If I actually had to use the KB on this machine, it would have to be replaced. Pathetic!!! Second, I had wanted to set up a network storage drive so everyone in the house could back up and store w/o using individual storage units (for file sharing and security). After upgrading to a new, top-of-the-line router from Cisco with a USB port and spending several hours scratching my head as to why I couldn't read/write from the storage drive that I could see on the network, I learned that Windows 7 Home version does NOT support network storage! You have to upgrade to Windows "something more expensive." What a rip-off! (Yes, I can totally hear all the Linux and MAC users laughing at me).

Summing up: My wife's cheap-o $299 Acer is more solidly built than this laptop -an embarrassing disappointment, since she constantly reminds me how much I spent on the HP!) However, the battery life and screen quality are very compelling from a buying standpoint; major improvements over anything I have ever used/seen in almost 40 years of computing!

ADVICE: Look for a more solidly built alternative. We recently bought a Samsung Series 3 (comparable features, lower price), which has proven to be a better unit than the DV7. If you can afford it, go for a solid state drive, too. The drive speed on my DV7 seems to be creating a serious speed limit issue on the DV7.

Honest reviews on HP dv7-6c80us (17.3-Inch Screen) Laptop

While I will spend some time on the disadvantages of this computer, I must say there aren't many and I love it and am glad I bought it.

This review, and also this computer, is really for power users. Most of you don't need a computer like this... you can get away with a perfectly good computer much cheaper.

Bought this at Fry's in Jan 2012. It's a quad-core i7-2670QM running at 2.2GHz with 8GB of RAM. Not sure of the exact speed of the RAM but Crucial's memory scanner pegs it at either PC3-10600 or PC3-12800. I run some pretty memory intensive apps, and while this computer can be upgraded to 16GB, I haven't felt the need. At the time of this review (10/13/2012) upgrading the memory would be $80 +$20 depending on how well you shop. It does have the Intel 3000 graphics built in with a minimum allocation of 64MB of RAM and a max of 1696MB (64MB Dedicated + Shared)

My WEI with my SSD installed (not included with this purchase) is 6.3. I don't quite know what it is without, I assume it was 5.9.

Everything on this computer worked fine out of the box, however, I'm not a fan of bloatware and HP has plenty of it. So I reinstalled Windows 7 with a copy of Win 7 I had on DVD and using the key from the bottom of the machine, it worked. BTW, most of you know this, but most computers now do not come with restore CDs, but I think HP has one for $20. I'm not too worried about getting one from them. Go to their support website before you buy if this is something you need.

One hardware modification I made was I got rid of the 5400 RPM WD 750GB drive and replaced it with a paltry 60GB 2.5 SSD from OCZ that I used in a previous computer. This makes Windows 7 screaming fast, but doesn't allow for a lot of room to install things... and here's where my first complaint comes in.

You have two drive bays for HD/SSD but good luck finding a second caddy/cable for it. And when you find one, it's going to have to be a long cable (about the width of your keyboard) to reach the connector near the first HD/SSD.

Intel Wireless Display is AWESOME. I bought a Netgear Wi-Di box and hooked it up to my TV. I can even play a show from Hulu or Netflix and get no audio or video lag.

I don't play games on it, so I can't tell you how it would do with World of Warcraft or anything like that. I presume it's neither great or bad, but that's a guess.

It's shiny and easy to get dirty. I found the fingerprint scanner to be useless, but that's because I did a fresh install of Windows. HP's support site is good for finding drivers though, but not that particular one.

Battery life... I get 6-8 hours EASY on this thing and I'll bet I can get 10 if I ever let it "die" as opposed to plugging it in at 10%. Makes going to Starbuck's much easier. :)

Wi-Fi seems to be good/strong/powerful. Haven't really tried the Bluetooth, so I can't comment on that. I also don't have any USB 3.0 specific devices yet, but the ports are plentiful... they aren't well spaces...so if you have a "fatter" USB drive (like my older SanDisk) that you need to plug in, you might have a conflict.

Sound is surprisingly good. Display at 1600 x 900 is crisp and clear. Getting the back cover off is a pain, until you realize the only tool you need is a flathead screwdriver or butter knife. Be gentle, though.

Blu-Ray player, but no Blu-Ray software. Be prepared to shell out for that. I haven't really tried it yet.

What else to say... I love it.
