I bought this about 3 years ago, after having a Toshiba last for 10 years before dying.
Pros: For 3 years ago, this was one powerful laptop. I haven't had any speed issues, except when I try to play Starcraft 2, it lags a little on the lowest settings. Excellent for surfing the internet, or just taking around school. I have used it for Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator with no issues. This was my daily-use computer and generally didn't give me performance problems or blue screens. Generally.
Cons: Straight out of the box, the volume knob didn't work right. The hibernate function didn't work right either. After a couple months, the screen was messing up and a cord needed to be replaced (which Toshiba replaced and shipped the computer free of charge due to warrantee). After a few months, the mouse button chrome started chipping. After about a year the power adapter cord just completely broke in half. I have had some terrible heat issues after awhile. It would overheat and shut down while watching videos or playing games. All. The. Time. Even YouTube videos would cause it to overheat. Speaking of which, it can't play 720p HD videos smoothly. A cooling pad helped a lot, but didn't solve the overheating problem. I checked for dust in the fans, but there really wasn't enough to do this.
Also, really bad battery life. 1 hour max with normal(non-wifi) use.
A couple weeks ago it died. It straight-up won't start up anymore. It didn't have any viruses. It was some hardware failure. I don't even really want to find the problem because I am tired of dealing with the overheating issue and the overall poor setup.
That's my story of the life of this laptop. Hopefully I just got a lemon. You have been warned.

Roughly 4 years ago I purchased two Toshiba Satellite L505 laptops these were great... Good price and functionality.With my kids frequently on the PC, I bought this laptop. While specs are better than the L505. It runs VERY slow. Even my nine year old says its slow and prefers the older laptop. The sound is also very "tinny," both when using the on-board speakers, as well as when you use the jack and output to external speakers.
When I called Toshiba, I got a recorded message saying my warranty expired even though I just received it ~ 6 days earlier.
This laptop works, looks nice, but again is very slow.

Reviews of Dell XPS 15 X15L-1024ELS Laptop (Elemental Silver)
First things first, this is an excellent machine. Zippy fast, feels rock solid and user friendly. It is a bit bulky but like I said, feels solid. Keys are lit and feel really secure. As a whole, you feel like you purchased a rock solid machine that wasn't built with cheap materials.
Pros:
1) Great specs (i7 core 2nd gen, 6 gb ram, 750gb hard drive) & performance.
2) Rock solid build & feel (keyboard, touchpad & body).
3) User friendly to setup & use.
4) Two USB 3.0, HDMI & Bluetooth.
5) Excellent speakers, best sound I've heard on a laptop.
6) 2.0 mega pixel webcam.
7) Excellent deal for students with free Xbox 360.
Cons:
1) A little bulky.
2) Power brick a little big (but to be expected with needed power).
3) 6-cell battery is ok at best (2-3 hours). A 9-cell is available but currently $179.
In summary, this is not a MacBook Pro in terms of style but it's a great performer and despite it's slightly bulky build, the machine looks really nice & solid. It's also considerably cheaper than a MacBook Pro. On a side note, a bit of a gripe regarding Amazon -despite description being accurate, the last of the item photos shows a Blu-Ray drive (available as an upgrade). A bit misleading, I think. Only the photos of the actual model being sold should be on display.
The main upgrade the second generation Dell XPS 15 has are the newer SandyBridge CPUs which run cooler and are up to 30% more efficient than previous generation i5/i7s. The addition of a 1080p WLED multi-touch display is exclusive to the newer L502x model, but in my opinion you might as well upgrade to the BRGLED if you want a nicer display. Lastly the inclusion of Optimus is a big plus on second gen L502x's due to the ability to save more battery and lower temperatures.
The Dell XPS 15 includes the speedy USB 3.0 technology and offers up 2 USB 3.0 ports, one on the left side and one on the back next to the power connector. A USB 2.0 (eSATA/powershare combo) can be found on the right side of the laptop. On the back you'll find a gigabit LAN port and an HDMI 1.4 port. The SD card reader slot is flushed with the front of the laptop covered by hardly noticeable dummy SD card.
One of the main gripes I have with this laptop is the form factor and weight. The Dell XPS 15 is a whopping 1.5" at its thickest point. With the 9 cell battery plugged in, you're looking at carrying around a 6.33lbs laptop. That is both bulky and hefty compared to its competition, the Macbook Pro 15-inch model (boasting a height of only .95" and a weight of 5.6lbs). The 9 cell battery adds to the height of the laptop, protruding about an inch from the base of the laptop. Although the incline the battery creates makes typing more comfortable, it can become uncomfortable when having the laptop on your lap for too long. The weight and bulky nature of the Dell XPS 15 make the laptop less friendly for frequent commuters. I found it best to unplug the 9 cell battery when storing the laptop in my messenger bag.
I can honestly say I have never listened to laptop speakers as good as the JBL 2.1 speakers on the Dell XPS 15. The laptop includes two speakers on either side (each boasting 4W of power) and a 12W sub-woofer on the bottom of the base. That is a total of 20W total peak audio performance on a 15 inch laptop. The speakers are not only loud, but clear at high volumes. There was no noticeable distortion when playing music and movies at full volume. The bass impressed me the most, achieving a clear booming sound. Without a doubt these speakers make the Dell XPS 15 one of the best multimedia laptops on the market.
The 9 cell battery boasts about 4 hours of general use (web browsing, light video viewing). If you're going to sit down and watch a movie, expect around 3 hours of battery life. Finally if you're going to be gaming unplugged, you'll only get an hour to an hour and a half. The newer generation Dell XPS 15 includes the Optimus technology with their video cards. Optimus claims to give better battery performance by switching to the integrated Intel graphics when you are not gaming or using dedicated GPU based programs.
The back-lit keyboard is phenomenal. Typing is a breeze and the back-lit keys are easy to read in low light. When the Dell XPS 15 first came out, you had the option to add the back-lit keyboard for around US$25, but Dell has since wizened up and now includes the back-lit keyboard automatically with any new purchase of the Dell XPS 15. If you are buying this laptop from a third-party retailer, make sure you check that it has the back-lit keyboard if that is a feature you wish to have.
The Dell XPS 15 was the first laptop to include a Skype-certified webcam. The webcam is a 2.0MP camera capable of recording 720p HD content. While performing a Skype test, the person on the other end, could both hear and see me clearer than my Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. Video footage taken with the webcam was decent, but suffered from heavy noise and framerate issues when recording at 720p.
The wireless card on this review model is the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300. This model was quickly taken down weeks after the Dell XPS 15 release due to lack supply for the overwhelming demand. It's a shame because this little card is by far the best laptop wireless card I have ever had the pleasure of using. The range on this Ultimate-N 6300 is rated as 2x that of the Centrino Advanced-N 6200 series, but what really makes the card shine is the addition of a third antennae. 6200 cards usually have only 2 antennae. Having a third allows for faster wireless speeds and an overall more reliable connection. Speeds are rated at 450 Mbps compared to the 300 Mbps of the 6200 cards.
The Dell Xps 15 is one warm machine. Notice I used the word warm not hot. If you're using the laptop for general everyday things like browsing the web and working on documents, the temperatures will hang around 55 degrees Celsius. If you're rendering video, expect the fan to ramp up and temperatures to hover around 70 degrees Celsius. Gaming will raise temperatures even higher into the 80s.
While these temperatures are higher than what I'm used to on my personal computer, they are not entirely bad. Most laptops starve for cool air because of the enclosed nature of the chassis, so temperatures around this range are actually normal. For reference, the Dell XPS 15 does not get anywhere near as hot as its predecessors the Studio XPS 16 and Dell XPS M1530. If the warmth the Dell XPS 15 gives out proves to be too much for you, or if you're a heavy gamer, I suggest you invest in a laptop cooler. Nowadays laptop coolers run around US$20 $50 depending on how much cooling force you want.
The Dell XPS 15 is the best multimedia laptop on the market at its price point. If you can live with the slight bulky design and 6lbs weight, you'll be able to enjoy the high quality JBL speakers, brilliant BRGLED display, and more than adequate performance it has to offer. Whether you're a gamer or multimedia enthusiast, this laptop will take everything you throw at it.

Power button feels strong, like it won't fall off at some point.
The not so good: 1) Battery life is average. Three hours tops on regular, not extremely intensive use. You're going to need the expensive 9-cell battery if you want 4+ hours. 2) A little large as I mentioned above but don't let that deter you because in the end, the machine's solid build makes you feel as if you bought a quality product.
After a week of putting this machine to the test, I would recommend it. The price for the specs/performance you get is very good. If you're a student, you get an even better deal with the free Xbox thrown-in. Amazon has already run several promotions, including a $100 gift card. So if you've been thinking about buying a laptop, take advantage. You won't regret it.

I purchased this laptop from Amazon a little less than a week ago and truly enjoy this product. It is the seventh laptop I've owned(third Dell). The screen is large and very bright with amazing colors. The keyboard is very nice-I LOVE the backlit feature! The trackpad is large and works very well. The sound system and JBL speakers are the best I've heard in a laptop but still don't compare to my Bose Companion 3 Series II external speaker system. I got somewhat of a bonus in that mine came preloaded with Windows 7 Professional instead of Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. The laptop is pretty fast with the CORE i7 processor and 6GB of RAM. The 640GB harddrive is nice, but definitely more than I'll ever use. It seems to stay nice and cool while running, and is very quiet. So far, so good..My ONLY complaints about this laptop are that the USB ports are not real convenient, in that they are on the side towards the rear and on the rear of the unit, and I think the bootup time could be a little faster(my Asus netbook boots up much faster). Surprised with the overall quality of this laptop as this is the fourth laptop I have purchased, second dell. The other Dell I was disappointed by and ended up not lasting long. However this model is very well built and lighter than I expected even though it is not as slim as some laptops.Pros:

the Alienware hsa problem with its lights, it sometimes only work half of them and the indicator light doesn't work as same as the other lights, I don't konw if this is the hardware problem or the software problem, I'm so annoyed with this, and I don't have time to repair it, I don't know why does the new laptop has such as this problem, is this new laptop? Buy Toshiba Satellite P755-s5198 15.6" Laptop (Intel Core i7-2670QM
I've had this laptop for 1 month and I am satisfied but not so impressed as I expected. I will mention the pros and cons.
Pros:
It's fast, you can open multiple web pages, play music or videos, open multiple programs at the same time with no delay.
Stylish design
Keyboard backlit is great and easy to control (Dim off, Dim on, or timer)
Keyboard buttons feels good at touch
It's not full of useless preinstalled programs, only the toshiba utilities which are good to monitor the laptop performance.
The laptop in spite of being 15.6" feels light to carry.
WIDI integrated is a good option to get rid of cables, but you have to buy an additional device (reciever) to connect to your Tv.
The nvidia graphics 1 Gb will allow you to play any graphic program or computer game.
Cons:
The screen color is not the best, I had to spend 30 min to reach the best color looking but doesn't convince me at all
The battery charger is bigger than older toshiba laptops I had, and the cable is as thin as always so you will have to take extra care to avoid that the heavyness of the charger does'nt brake the cable.
The touchpad is almost at the same level of the laptop surface so sometimes you slide the finger out of it without noticing
The integrated webcam is awfull, it is not too sharp even configuring contrast, brigtness, etc, a webcam not worthy of this laptop.
The battery only lat 3 hours

Reviews of ASUS F55A-AH91 15.6-Inch Laptop
I've gotten several laptops in my lifetime. And, this is the best one I've gotten so far. Nothing really stands out but it's just altogether well made. When you strike the keys, it feels very nice. The picture quality of the screen is good. Programs load up pretty quickly. Every laptop I've purchased I have regretted. I bought a laptop that was small and lightweight. I thought that it would be great to carry around. But, I learned that ease of carrying it around doesn't justify the small screen. Then, I went the other way and bought a huge screen. But, the weight made it so cumbersome. For example, just typing on your lap was annoying. But, this laptop seems perfect. Light, good screen size, and programs work perfect. Here are some points that I hope helps you make a decision.

Before Windows 8 was released, this model was selling for $329, and could often be found on sale for $299. And at that price, it is an amazing machine. But at today's nearly $400 price, there might be other options to consider.
We received the computer in two days (thank you, Prime), plugged it in, and started setting it up. My husband was so impressed with the Asus computer that he preferred it to our Toshiba AND our HP laptops. In fact, he spent nearly all of Thanksgiving break playing around on her computer. Speakers are good, graphics are good, and I genuinely prefer Windows 7 to Windows 8, which was probably *the* deciding factor in choosing this Asus laptop over several other models in this price point, most of which were equipped with Windows 8. Keep in mind this was during the week of Black Friday, so there were tons of deals on laptops, but this one seemed like the best buy to me, and I was right.
She absolutely loves the computer. We got her set up with a free 60-day trial of Microsoft Home and Student, which is actually my only complaint, that computers don't come with software like that anymore! Not anything against the computer itself, just against the current market and the unfortunate situation that puts many broke students like herself in...having to shell out an extra $100+ for software just so they can write a paper or create a presentation.
Bottom line: Buy it! This was a great buy for her, and my husband was so impressed with the Asus that I bought him one for Christmas to replace the 1 year old HP laptop that bit the dust...

The Intel version is considerably faster than the AMD E-450 model, which carries the same price. The only downside is a cut in battery life, the AMD gets a little over 4 hours, while I could only get about 3 out of this one. I do my major computing on a Dell desktop, but I needed an affordable laptop for portability around the house and occasional travel. I'm very pleased so far with this one's performance. The screen is quite large and the quality of graphics & videos is more than good enough for my basic needs. (I can't speak to how it would be for gaming, since I don't do any of that.) I've been using this laptop for a couple of months, and I really love it. My last two laptops were a Toshiba and an HP. Both were relatively inexpensive at around $500 and they both felt really cheap. Both also died around the 3 year mark. I literally had tape holding the HP together at the end, and it barely ever left my coffee table. The toshiba was physically ok at the end, but totally crashed and could not be recovered even after bringing it to computer repair people. While I don't know what the longevity of this Asus will be, it feels and looks so much better out of the box, even though it is the least expensive. The screen is beautiful. It is fairly light for such a large computer. The battery life isn't great, but I am so used to the batteries on my last laptops loosing their charge after a year or so that I am happy to have any battery life. Programs were easy to instal. I really like the feel of the keyboard and track pad. Someone mentioned that the volume is too low, but that can be adjusted with the pre-installed desktop icon that says "Asus Sonic Foccus." I actually think the sound quality is pretty decent. Overall, my computing needs are pretty basic. This computer is great for the basic stuff. Of course, it runs slow until you install all of the windows updates, but as soon as you have installed all windows updates and an anti-virus program, you should be trouble free as I have been. After reading the reviews on this computer, I just want to say that, compared to other laptops from various manufacturers (Apple, HP, Dell, etc.), this computer is by far the most well built computer I have ever come across. I have taken this computer to school with me EVERYDAY for the last 3+ years and not yet has it slowed down, even by the tiniest bit. I've never had any hardware or software problems nor any of the problems that people seem to be complaining about. (FYI-If you treat any computer like a piece of meat, it will break, regardless of who made it). I just wanted to write a positive review about this computer because I am still very happy with its performance (especially being 3+ years old) and do not intend on buying another laptop anytime soon.
The description showed very good condition..but it's horrible. The frame near the DVD box is burnt. The frame is extremely loose. Gap exxists between frame components ..completely opposite to what has been declared.

I have had my T500 for 3+ years. It has performed flawlessly. The other posters here are obviously computer illiterate. Most of their problems stem from the fact that they don't know how to use a laptop nor the software. Ive had my Y500 for LESS THAN 6 MONTHS and it already broke. Its now slow, wont restart, and or shutdown. And Lenovo made me pay $200 plus $30 for shipping to send it back for them to fix it. A couple of months ago I decided to upgrade from my toshiba satellite laptop. I was going to buy another toshiba until I came across this during my research and decided this laptop was the best bang for my buck. What do I like about it? Everything!! I love the large memory and the 320g hard drive is double of my toshiba. I don't regret jumping from toshiba brand to sony. The built in webcam and microphone are great. They work perfectly with aim, yahoo, and skype. I was easily able connect to my wireless router without reinstalling the software. The only downside is the battery. I will be ordering a large capacity battery soon. I can't wait hook up my sony hd camcorder and start editing my home videos. I would definitely recommend this laptop to friends.
Just remember to upgrade the wireless adaptor drivers from Intel as the default one keeps dropping connection.

Short and sweet, this laptop kicks @$$!!! For the price, you go so much included in this bad boy: Blu-ray player/burner, video with 1GB dedicated RAM, 16+ in screen, 4GB RAM upgradable to 8GB, decent sized hard drive, I mean the list goes on. Review of Dell XPS X15L-3357SLV 15-Inch Laptop (Elemental Silver)
NOTE: Windows 8 works fine on this laptop. To install, best to create a Win 8 bootable flash drive. Boot from that, and after formatting (be sure to backup data first, if desired), it only takes 9 minutes to go from "Next" to "Personalize" (new install booting for the first time). Yes, only 9 minutes!
How did I even find this computer on Amazon? Navigated to Laptop department, then entered these two words into search box:
7200 hdmi
Then, because I wanted a great value, limited the results to items from Amazon's warehouse deals. Of the 40 or so laptops that came up, this seemed like the best deal.
As my search words suggest, it has a 7200 hard drive and an hdmi port. For me, both of those features are critical. Considering its impressive specs, which include quad-core and usb 3.0, this laptop is very enticing. Price for a new one is currently $1070, but I snagged a "like new" for a mere $700. The only obvious difference between my laptop and new, is that mine shipped in a generic box.
The only negative so far, and it's minor, is that the power adapter is big.
It's infrequent that I desire to use a computer outside my house, but I want that option. But I don't want portability to diminish my computing power while at home, so this laptop is ideal. It's heavier and bulkier than what's preferred for transport, so if portability is your primary reason for a laptop, then don't get this. But if you want a fast space-saving computer, that you can take outside if needed, this model will please you.
6 lb 3 oz, according to scale at my local post office.
Odd sidenote

When I received this computer, its original product key sticker had been crossed out with a black X, and a second "Refurbished" product key sticker added. I don't see the point of that, considering that I cleared the X using adhesive remover, so now I have an extra Win 7 activation code! Golly!
Because of the problems I had previously, the tecnician worked with me on setting up the new laptop. The first day, he spent 2 hours with me. The second day, he spent another 2 hours getting my home network to work. After the call, I determined that I could not change files from one computer to another or create a new file on my laptop and save it to my desktop computer. After a three hour call on the third day, they solved my home network problem.
At this point, even though the conversion to Windows 8 is painful, I have decided I would be better off working with Windows 8 rather than running the risk of starting all over on my home network and trying to install Windows 7.
Now after all of this you are probably wondering how I could give this laptop a 4 star rating. Well once the computer got up and running, I think all aspects of it (i.e., operating speed, screen resolution, build quality) or excellent. I guess I may be too easy, but the discount of only 1 start for all my hours on the phone with the technicians is tempered by the fact that the Dell technicians stuck with me the whole time and followed up a couple times after solving the problem to make sure the computer was working.

This computer looks as great as it operates. There are some hiccups but I put all my computers thru the test! I use them on a high processing level for sound and in studio and live performance. I've tried other computers and nothing still performs like a DELL. HP claims that they have the best in audio and computers for music....don't buy that sales pitch. For the home user, it's great, but in the commercial world using windows, DELL is always the best in performance. I tried two different HP with Beats audio....junk! I needed a computer that could perform under very very very heavy audio AND Video processing requests.....at the same time. Like 4 hours of continuous processing the highest quality video and music AT ONCE. NO HP could match the performance of the dells integrated video processor and the i7 dedicated processor. I purchased the Dell XPS X15L-3357SLV with Windows 7 right before the release of Windows 8 because I didn't want Windows 8. After receiving my machine, I spent a couple of hours on the phone with the Dell technichians just to get the machine operating, particularly on a wireless basis. I then had to purhcase a software assistance package from Dell because I could not get my homenetwork to work with the new compuer. This involved a call of at least three hours before they finally solved the problem. The next day I called back Dell again because the wireless network was extremely week. After another call of 2 to 3 hours, the technicial determined that there were at least 4 major things wrong with the new laptop. He said he could send a prepare person out within two days, but would also try to get permission to replace the machine since he had never seen so many things go wrong on a new machine. To shorten the story, within a couple of weeks I did get a new machine, a model SPS L521X, but it had Windows 8. This computer is everything I wanted. 8 gb RAM, 1gb dedicated video memory, it is fast, the speakers are great and I haven't had a single problem with it. The backlit keyboard is great too. More features than its comparable models at a low cost. The touch screen feels and works good. looks better than the old thinkpads. The twist feature works great. Applications are compatible to use with the tab.Gets heated up quickly while using as tablet. Dont expect a battery life of more than 4 hours. Also, feels heavier when compared to other convertible laptops.

I've had this laptop for a couple of months now, and I am very satisfied with it. Very fast overall, and the display resolution is very detailed and clear. For any of the thousands of laptops out there, you can more or less know what to expect when you review the specs. But what separates this laptop from any laptop of the same specs is its design. You sit at a coffee shop with someone using a quadcore i7 of another brand/model, and this particular laptop will absolutely turn more heads. Beauty with performance, I can't ask for more.
All the stars I removed are due to this being absolutely loaded with bloatware. And crapware like Firefox plugins that redirected everything through babylon. Tons of other FUD.
My mother in law bought this and Firefox (preloaded) wasn't even stable with the babylon and other plugins and bloatware. I handed it off to my 10 year old IT guy who had to spend several hours removing bloatware after bloatware after crap ware.
Nice laptop but it really horks me off all the "partner crud" they load on. It really does a disservice to customers particularly those not IT savvy to restore the load to pretty-bare-windows as it should come. Minus two stars for the crud and fud.
