this is a very nice laptop.I have the windows 7 model. It is extremely fast.Boots up in seconds and the video quailty is beautiful.I do not have the problems that other people are posting. One problem everyone has is with the power dvd movie player software. The software has a problem playing some bluray dvds. This a major problem with power dvd software version 9 and 10 and 11 and 12.Everyone all over the net is posting problems.Best bet is to use another brand of bluray movie player software.Best feature of this laptop is the hp restore feature. When you re-boot,hold the f-8 key and it takes you to the hp restore feature page. You can restore the whole system or just the sound system or just the video drivers ect.If you retsore the whole system do a minimal restore and all the bloatware is not put on the machine.warnong though:you can only use this feature apx 6 times. After that hp wants you to buy another restore disc. The bass is very good. You need to go into the sound settings and adjust the bass, treble, and volume level ect. Also power dvd has sound settings you must adjust to get the best sound. All in all, this is one of the best laptops i have had so far except for my sager 17" gaming laptop, lol. One last note:i bought this machine used. The person selling listed this machine for parts only for $50.His headphones stopped working and he took it to a shop and they said he needed a new motherboard for apx 400.I gave him the $50 and drove down to frys electronics and bought a high quality usb headphones and they work great.

This computer is a great deal for the specs: 17.3" screen, 6gb RAM, USB 3.0, 500gb HDD, very good integrated graphics for a laptop. I can play most games on medium settings.

Best Deals for HP Blu-ray 17.3" Laptop G7-2246NR 6GB DDR3 500GB HDD HDMI USB 3.0

This laptop is fast, has a great display and plenty of hard drive space.

Cons:

The speakers have no base and the sound stopped working for me on one occasion, I restarted the computer and the sound worked.

The fan is a little loud at times

Windows 8 doesn't function as well as I hoped it would, I still like Windows 7 more... I mainly don't like the navigation issues and the corner icons disappearing when I try to access them or appear when I'm trying to click something else in that corner. Although the windows button is quite useful for navigation on Windows 8.

received it and it is ok haven't really had a chance to use it yet. It didn't come with an owners manual which should have. Also it should have come with a case which would have been nice.

I ordered this laptop from ocean reef electronics a little over a month ago and had the misfortune of being busy with work for a few weeks before I had a chance to check it out. it was sent to me with the following three problems, first it has a crap battery that will not hold a charge, second the sound is completely busted and last every other time I log in the computer reboots itself. im sure the computer itself would be fine from any other source but ocean reef is seemingly unknowledgeable of the products they sell so I wrote this to warn other potential buyers. ocean reef electronics has no issues against selling broken goods and the only thing worse than their goods is their extremely poor customer service. I will never order anything from them again and I encourage everyone to save themselves the trouble and do the same.

This little 'netbook' is very small. I liken it too a poor man's OQO but it does its intended job: To get on the Internet. One cannot play WoW on it and expect it to mimic their home PC. Also it having a Celeron is something to hamper the expected performance of it. However, it comes underclocked! A good thing and a bad one too. That's to save energy and extend the life of the machine. I was blessed to get a version w/ Windows XP on it for a reasonable price. The first thing I did was to bump up the SO-DIMM RAM to 2GB and that seemed to help. The auto update (which I disabled) stuck me with XP Service Pack 3, so that ate up the already small HD. Getting rid of the swapfiles freed up over 5% of the HD, which is a lot for just an 8GB hard drive. The 701 SD possesses a SD card reader (hence its name) so one can save the solid-state drive some room. It seems to run a little hot when it's used for a while. The battery charges relatively quick compared to my Compaq V6444US.

Again, this thing is tiny and borders on being a novelty, but, its saving grace is access to the world-wide-web by 802.11 B/G wireless or the RJ-45 port. I'm going to learn to overclock this 'netbook' to speed it up to run the mandatory applications I installed like a firewall, spyware detector, Real-Player, Adobe Reader and Power Point viewer for the person on the go to take better advantage of the 'Net. This little computer is good for children, folks who are new to computers and for those who are out and about that want the reassurance of not losing data if hey drop the thing because of its solid-state drive. Keep in mind that this Asus Eee 701 SD can outdo the ENIAC (duh..) and it amazes me that a computer for a reasonable price can bee gotten by almost anyone and how far things have come and will go. A good buy that's built well but S-L-O-W compared to all modern home PCs. It's like 1995 all over again! Again, keep this in mind also: It's for the Internet. Knowing and reminding yourself of that you'll do fine and it will serve you well.

Have fun & God Bless!

I really enjoy using this this netbook! I have had several of the acer and hp netbooks, but at 10.2 inches screens and approaching over 3 lbs I think they are getting away from the spirit of this laptop category. I primarily use this to look up things on the net through its built in WiFi and my wife and I have used it with great success on a recent trip to San Francisco tethered to my SPRINT phone as a modem. The keyboard is a bit cramped but I generally am not typing more than 10 words at time so its generally not an issue for me.

PROS:

Tiny Size !!!

Did I mention it's T I N Y ?? Barely bigger than a VHS tape.

Featherweight at 1.9 lbs

Good battery life for its size (I get 3-4 hrs)

CONS:

Small Screen ( Non Standard Resolution, wish it supported 1024*768)

Keyboard is small and can be a challenge for people with truck driver hands like me.

Its not a speed demon, I wouldn't open up more than 6 tabs in FIREFOX

Best Deals for EEEPC701SD-BLK004X MOBILE CPU

This netbook was good overall I suppose but I had so much difficulty typing. Only being 86% the size of a normal keyboard really threw me and even after 2 months of using this product my fingers still had trouble. The desktop stretched which meant you had to move the entire screen at times to read a single web page or word document.

Honest reviews on EEEPC701SD-BLK004X MOBILE CPU

I bought one of these that came with Xolaris Linux which sucked big time so I loaded XP (using my external cdrom drive) and the hard drive in this tiny laptop wasen't big enough to load the updates or load a virus scanner so I had to run SP 1 leaving me open to viruses. The keys are small so expect typos galore, the screen is not that great and only displays half of web pages similar to a DSI where you have to scroll to read a sentance on the screen, actually a DSI is better than this laptop. The new Eee PC 1000 is eons better, plus you can load Vista and actually have a compentant hard drive!

I cant believe how inexpensive this laptop was and how fast it works. It also has a webcam I was unaware of. Its a awesome laptop for the money.

I've read some of the other people's reviews here & some bear merit & others are complete horse... actually, I don't know if I can use that word here, but you get the idea. That said, I'm going to try to be as fair as possible with this review.

First of all, I'm not a computer guy, in fact, I hate technology with a passion. I'm the kind of guy who would rather sit in a garage all day rebuilding an old engine than sitting on a computer playing vidya games. That being said, I use computers quite a bit. Do I know a hell of a lot about them? For a 29 year old, hell no, I don't. What I will say is that when you have multiple windows open, this thing lags bad. Really bad. I've yet to have major problems with streaming movies & for the most part, it does what it says on the tin. Just don't expect to have a hundred tabs open on your browser or run multiple programs at once, because you'll be sorely disappointed.

I'm not going to lie, I've had to replace the battery once already(about 2 months ago) & I'm looking at doing so again soon. Not just to have another spare battery, but because this thing eats batteries like a U.S.N. Gato Class submarine(That's WW2, in case you don't know. Not the best tech around at the time). Fortunately, the batteries, as of now, are easy to come by here for a relatively cheap price. Something around $20-25USD will get you a new one, & that's not too bad.

It over heats. Oh, I don't mean that it just gets warm, no, that wouldn't be bad. No, this thing has gotten so hot that my keyboard keys are actually a higher elevation by the power button than the rest of the keyboard. Yes, I allow for ventilation & no, I don't use this thing while laying in bed with it sitting on my comforter. I bought a little tray table for that exact reason.

Will it play movies? Yes. Will it play vidya games from 4 years ago? Yes. Will it browse the net? Yes. Are you buying an Alienware? Are you smoking crack? I bought this thing for $305 at Wal-Mart a year ago, it's now $200 on here. That means that you're looking at a cheap laptop, so exactly, what do you think you're looking at? Idk why, but I didn't get a webcam & I feel kinda cheated by that. Whatever, I'm not really the Chatroulette kinda guy anyway.

For some reason, & I really don't download, but I find that restoring this thing to the factory settings every other month or so makes it faster that before. Or maybe it's because I go on 4Chan all the time & click the links like a summerfag. Overall though, this thing will get the job done, barely, but it will get the job done nonetheless. For what it is, being a cheap laptop, I'd reccomend it even though it pisses me off sometimes.

TL;DR if you're looking for a cheap laptop to bring everywhere & not worry about, stop looking & buy this. If you want amazing quality, what the hell are you doing looking at a $200 laptop?

Kudos to HP for this little powerhouse. My daughter left it out in the rain overnight, the cover wide open. When I found it and picked it up it was dripping wet, and water poured off of it onto the ground. The keyboard was swimming. Fearing the worst, I turned it on and, voila! Fired up instantly like a champ with no screen problems. The touchpad was inoperative so I figured it was toast, but after turning it upside down for a day and letting it dry out completely, the touchpad restored itself as well, and it's all working perfectly ever since. wow!

Please do not waste your money on this completely worthless piece of crap. It barely has enough memory to run a browser and paint, and quite often I cannot even watch a streaming movie when nothing else is open and my internet is at full speed. Sometimes if I right click to save a picture, it takes literally 10 seconds for the dialog box to open. And it was like this from the time I got it.

By the way, let's not forget the mouse pad. You have to use actual strength to push down on the pad in order to click something. It's the worst design I have ever seen. Forget about highlighting anything because you won't have the finger strength.

Poor design, poor quality, unbelievably slow and worthless. You'd be much better off buying a basic netbook at Target or Walmart because they will run much faster than this.

P.S. Many people received this (like me) as part of a class action lawsuit against NVIDIA as a settlement. Choosing cash was not an option. So I received this to replace an HP laptop ($1400 in 2007). What a joke. Nice to know what you think of your customers.

This ASUS X54L is a great laptop, but I was a little skeptical due to the cheap price. Note, I got my laptop at bestbuy for $329. As of this review Amazon does not have the best price on this product. I've had this laptop for several months now.

I wanted to replace my old laptop with one that had a faster processor and better graphic so that I could actually view HD movies on my laptop (streaming netflix and HBOgo).

Pros:

The Intel core i3 processor is awesome. It makes this computer very fast and can handle multitasking and runs HD videos fine.

The USB 3.0 is a nice addition. Transferring many gigs via this USB port is much quicker, probably by a factor of 10.

The overall build of the laptop. It's plastic, clearly, but is not flimsy nor does it feel like the keyboard will snap in two as you type.

The RAM is 4 gigs, which is enough to perform normal tasks like word processing, email, internet, and HD movies. ASUS says this laptop has a max of 4 gigs of RAM total, but that is not so as you can upgrade higher. While this laptop has only one RAM slot, I purchased a single 8 gig RAM stick (8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)) and it works great. The 8 gigs only cost $47, so I feel that was an easy upgrade. The memory I got was made by Patriot, and other than putting the ram in the system, I had to do nothing more, though any memory of the correct type should work.

The speakers on this laptop are surprisingly good.

The overall software suite of the laptop is smart. It is easy to go from high performance mode to battery saving mode. There are a lot of built in alerts and interfaces by ASUS that make operating the laptop very nice.

Best of all, little bloatware is installed on the laptop and can be removed within minutes if you so choose.

I decided to install some video games on the laptop and see if they could work. I got Starcraft 2 and Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Both work fine, but all my graphic settings are on low. With 8 gigs or RAM, I can tweak that a bit, but the reality is to have your present day games in a playable state, graphic settings must be low. Both these games are playable though and have no issues with choppiness or poor performance.

Cons:

You only get two USB ports. One is USB 3.0 the other is 2.0.

Graphics card is integrated Intel 3000 chip set. It's ok, but clearly not the best. This was done to save on cost, which is fine, but don't expect miracles from your graphics card. Recall my video games needing graphic settings on low to run well. Though, in all fairness to this graphics card, the games do run without flaw.

Note on battery life.

With high performance on and you using the internet, playing a game, or watching a video, your battery will last about 2.5 hours from a full charge.

With battery saving mode on and you trying to do the same stuff, battery will last 4 hours. Performance suffers though, although video watching can still work.

This is about what I would expect from a product in this price range.

Overall I am happy with this laptop. I feel I got a good value at a fair price. As of July 2012, you probably cannot find a better laptop, with this solid intel core processor, at this price. I highly recommend this laptop for those on a budget.

This is the lowest price laptop that come with Intel i3 Sandy Bridge CPU.

I bought it for my kids, and they use it for web browsing and some games. My kids love it.

The price is very very very reasonable, actually, I think it's under-priced.

The speed is more than enough, and design is good.

Best Deals for ASUS X54L-BBK2 Laptop Computer / Intel Core i3-2350M 2.3GHz 2nd

I purchased this laptop for our kids. It has all the necessary features. I have used lots of high-end laptops and this one is definitely a good deal for the price. It is light for its size. The screen and keyboard feel good. The i3 processor has two cores and is hyper threaded for four effective cores. It comes with 4GB of RAM. All the memory web sites say this laptop will only take one 4GB SODIMM stick. Yes, it only has one memory slot, but as I figured (because it is an i3), it can take an 8GB SODIMM stick. I purchased an 8GB DDR3 stick and it works great. My only issues is that it doesn't have HDMI out. It does have a VGA connector however. I also had a few issues with the USB drivers when reinstalling a clean version of Windows 7. However, once I got them installed in the right order, things seems to be working. This a 5 star laptop for the price. Once of the best deals out there as of summer 2012.

Honest reviews on ASUS X54L-BBK2 Laptop Computer / Intel Core i3-2350M 2.3GHz 2nd

I was on a tight budget and needed a laptop that had an i3 processor and would allow me to do all I needed to do. This laptop is as nice as most 500-600 dollar laptops/ultra-books these days, but only costs 399 (no tax + free shipping). You can't go wrong here, don't hesitate on this one!

I live out in the middle of nowhere with a terribly slow connection, but this machine makes it possible to stream and surf with wonderful quickness.

The only things lacking are a built in bluetooth and HDMI.

I am impressed. I am not a gamer, so I can't say much on the subject, but it is nimble with the social games on Zinga.

The graphics are great, and web chat is made easy.

This was a great PC until it broke within 5 months of purchasing it.

It takes a lot of force to open this laptop and the screen eventually cracked at the top. This laptop stays in our house and is not abused in any way.

This was within the warranty period, but I quickly found out a cracked

screen is not covered by the warranty.

I checked the screen mounting and the case is warped so the hinges for the

screen are not at right angles. This is why it takes a lot of force to open the laptop screen. Also there is not a latch to hold the screen down.

HP finally agreed to fix it but I had to pay 50% of the repair cost which was over $200. It was still under full warranty.

I finally have the laptop back and it is still hard to open, so the screen will eventually crack again. I may leave it open most of the time.

I am a design engineer and I know this is a design or manufacturing flaw.

I looked at G62 reviews on the Internet and others have commented that the screen is really difficult to open.

If you buy a G62, look it over carefully and make sure it is not hard to open. If it is hard to open, send it back right away. If the screen cracks after you purchase it, the repair cost is almost as much as the purchase price. The screen is not under warranty.

Fist off, by the look of this unit some might say it looks alot like the Macbook pro 13", with that being said, looks are NOT everything, This HP G62 packs alot of KICKASS punch, Unlike the other person who wrote that he's having a track pad problem.....GET GLASSES if you cannot see the track pad. One of the features regarding the track pad is the shut off, you just tap twice on the led thats located on top of the pad too disable the track pad, of which then an amber light comes on letting you know that you have disabled the track pad, too enable it, just tap twice and your good too go, this feature was made if you are going too use an external mouse. Now as far as This unit's functionality, its awesome, all hard drives depending on your configuration, are @ 7200 rpm,the base CPU is the new i3 core by intel, of which is upgradeable too the i5 or i7. It also features the new L3 cache, giving you a smoother ride then the older L2 cache systems. The system bus is well over 1066MHz, uses very fast DDR3 ram of which this unit is upgradeable too 8 gigs of ram. In addition the graphics are in true native, and watching a dvd was an experience, with the Altec Lansing audio surround. OK now for multi-task, I have compared it too the Macbook Pro, With the Intel core 2 duo running @ 2.8 Ghz, the results were very impressive, The HP (base model) not only beat the Macbook Pro in muli-tasking, but also ran apples own software like itunes and others with little effort, running adobe CS4 was so fast I could not believe what I was seeing. As far as surfing the web, I have never been on a mobile device that has speeds that are just unbelievable. HP and Intel have put together a product that surpasses systems worth $2000 and up. Of coarse if you deside too get your HP G62 FULLY loaded with the i7 intel cpu, blueray, 500gb hard drive, and dedicated graphics, and built in bluetooth, this unit will run you about $2400. Now weather you get the base model or upgraded version, 1 word....Kickass, its about time a PC company challenges the bar, weather your a casual user or an extreme user, makes no difference, this unit is built for decades too come! Well worth the money!

Best Deals for HP G62-144DX Notebook PC with Intel CoreTM i3-330M processor

I picked this up on sale at Best Buy for $549, I was first inspired by the looks the the unit, as well as the texture of the casing. But I went and looked at just about every other laptop in the store in similar price range. Most of them tended to be the previous generation T4400 processors, rather than the new i3 series processors. One of the other things that caught my eye almost immediately was the posted battery life for the unit. Most 6-cell laptops you expect to get 2-3 hours of usage. The G62-144DX has 5hr 15min (admittedly, the way those battery lives are calculated is with just about everything shut off and the laptop not being used, but still significantly higher) I looked around at the other i3/5/7 series, the i3's and i5's all tended to have significantly longer battery life. They are the perfect mix of low electrical power utilization and high performance. Plus the fact of the DDR3 memory and the 500gb hard drive (most laptops tended to top out at 320gb), it was really an unbeatable deal.

Most of the other i3 laptops at the store were running at least $100 higher or more, and didn't have all the specs of this unit. It is quite a speedy system for a very reasonable cost.

Poorly made. Check your keyboard and only buy from authorized reseller. I think this model is only authorized through Best Buy. I bought 3 all at once...2 from Best Buy and 1 off Amazon. HP is not honoring Amazon purchase for warranty. The keyboard on the amazon one became warped. Keys started coming off too. It has never left my desk or been dropped. I was skeptical about buying an HP after some of the recent downtrends with the company but they made some major structural changes in the last year and decided to give HP another shot! Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I love this laptop and at the price Amazon has it for, it cannot be beat. I paid $449 and got it within a few days! Beautiful piece of equipment and it runs very fast! Anyone looking to give HP another shot I recommend to try out this laptop, great specs for the price!

I have owned two HP Pavilions, and been happy with both. My 8 year old one (which had Vista) is starting to get glitchy, so I decided to buy a new one.

I bought one elsewhere, and after going through the wizard that came with it, it would not load Windows, so I returned it.

This one loaded okay, but I absolutely hate the new Windows 8, so I am still using my old computer while I try to figure out how to use the new one.

Windows 8 seems like it was designed for a touch screen rather than a regular mouse, and I guess if you have endless time to mess with it and try to figure out where they hid all the controls, you might enjoy it. I dont.

There is no start button any more, just a start page with tiles constantly flashing things I don't need to know, and most of the controls are hidden around the edges, where you have to hunt for them.

I have used Windows XP and Vista, have an Android tablet and an old Apple laptop, and never had a problem with any of them. I can usually figure out new systems fairly easy, but not this one. I don't know who thought Windows 8 was a good idea, but if I can figure out a way to get rid of it, I will.

*****

Update... I was lucky enough to sit next to a computer programmer on a plane, and he told me about a download that puts a traditional start page on Windows 8 (apparently a lot of people hate the new format). It's called classic shell, and can be found here: http://classicshell.com/ With it the computer is much more usable.

Best Deals for HP Pavilion G6-2239DX Quad Core 2.7Ghz 640GB 4GB Windows 8 15.6"

I got the refurbished model of this, saves you money and doesn't really make a difference from my experience. My only complaint with the laptop is that there is a lot of bloatware, but that's easily solvable. One important thing to mention is that the title says it's a quad core processor, but it is only dual core. Not that it's that big of a deal, but the A6-4400M is a dual core 2.7GHz processor. It's still pretty solid for the price, and you can always go to eBay to upgrade the processor to an A8 or an A10, both of which are quad core, for about 100 bucks or so. The chiclet-style keyboard is nice, and the speakers are good for a laptop, the battery lasts about 4 hours of continuous, light use, about half that if you're playing games or something more intensive. Windows 8, love it or hate it, runs perfectly fine on this machine. If you can find it, buy the refurbished one from Best Buy though, it costs around 255 bucks after tax and shipping and handling, considerably less than the refurbished one on here, although I was unable to find it on there to review. Anyways, good laptop!

The Elitebook is HP's most powerful mobile computer platform. Our Firm picked two of these up for the office. Our law firm uses document presentation software that requires powerful processing and graphics capabilities, and this computer does the job. It handles the largest case set-ups with alacrity and a lack of long lag times. I do recommend that power users upgrade their Elitebook from 8 to 16GB of DRAM. This is cheap and easy to do and if you are manipulating large amounts of graphics data you will appreciate the enhancement.

The Elitebook comes with both a VGA and the new DisplayPort adaptor for those who want to use two monitors.. The latter is easy to use with HDMI cables via a cheap and easy adaptor which can be obtained on Amazon. My review of such is here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2GB6ME5M99IF6/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm

The computer comes with built-in WiFi (the latest specs, which will accommodate dual-channel networks) and Bluetooth. This is important to me as I use many Bluetooth accessories.

Another nice feature of this computer is the way it accommodates user preferences with respect to a Mouse. There is a superb mousepad built in, of course. But in addition to this, HP has included the IBM-style finger style mouse at the center of the keyboard. I got through law school using this type of mouse, and people like me who broke in on this type of mouse will really appreciate having this here as it is much easier to use (if you are used to it) than the mousepad. By the way, the keyboard is beautifully backlit for those who will need this feature.

The beautiful gunmetal color of this unit looks terrific. The 17.3" display is 1920 x 1080 and supports full HD which is nice if you are watching movies, as I occasionally do on the road or in the den.

This style of computer is essentially a portable desktop. Our office has standardized on this format for our computers rather than the tower-style desktop because this enables easy transport of the computer to court, a client's office, or the conference room.

This one does everything that our Firm's power users need for it to do. The death of the PC is a myth in my opinion. I love my Apple iPad, but for powerful business software you need a powerful computer and always will. This Elitebook does the job at an affordable price. Recommended. RJB.

This laptop completely overheats quite often. This laptop gets so hot it caused 4th degree burns on my childs lap.

What the major drawback about it is that due to improper cooling vent placement and super hot processor, the whole

laptop basically combusts and can get hot enough to fry an egg on. Buy this laptop if you want a dud. Oh do I

even have to mention that the laptop auto turns off when it overheats... buy it if you like wasting money!

Good overall laptop. I3 processor is very fast for an entry level machine. Video and Sound are typical of most laptops in this price range. Intel HD graphics are just OK for basic use...I am not a gamer. Have no problems or regrets other than the amount of bloatware that Asus includes. Very happy. Big step up from the similar entry level offerings from Toshiba, Gateway, Acer, etc... This is about as good as you will find at the sub $600 price range.

I bought this computer as a floor model from Best Buy almost 6 months ago for $459 and I have to say I've got no major complaints. I primarily bought this for web browsing, Microsoft Office, editing photos in Picasa and my iTunes library. I have had 30 windows open, run iTunes in the background and was typing a document and it could handle it all without lag. I have even run Adobe Photoshop CS3 and it does alright as long as the projects aren't too complicated. I did try the photomerge function (in Photoshop CS3) with 20 photos and then the program finally choked. All in all, if you're looking for web browsing, streaming netflix, a computer for your iTunes library and some basic photo editing with Picasa then this is a pretty darn good computer for the value. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or graphics work. Also, the speakers are pretty quiet so you'll definitely need to invest in some speakers. I picked up a pair of compact USB Insignia speakers so I can travel with them and they work a charm! I would definitely recommend this computer to someone.

This is my first laptop and it is great so far. It did not come with a lot of adware on it and is just what I was looking for.

Only comment to seller is seem it for less money two months before I bought it and now several months later it is cheaper again. Wish I would of got a better deal, but still like the laptop a lot.

Honest reviews on Asus Intel Core i3 Laptop K52F-BBR9 Notebook Computer

I purchased the computer in January of this year. The connection for the charger on the computer got lose by July and was unable to charge the battery. We asked repair. We needed to send the product to Asus, wait for the product to come back for 2 weeks. When we received the computer back, we noticed that the original problem was repaired, but half of the keys on the keyboard do not work. So, I called the Asus and waited for my turn for approximately 15 minutes on the phone. When a human finally picked up the phone, I explained the situation, asked the possibility of in house repair or replacement. The call taker took all information from me, including my phone number, serial number and so on. Then the phone was disconnected. Nobody called me back. So I call them back. Another person picked up the phone. I asked if my information is already in their system. The guy said no. I asked if the original call taker would call me back. The guy said Asus does not perform call back services. He told me if this phone is disconnected, I have to call them and wait on the line of callers again!! I asked the same questions to him, if they would replace my computer or send a repair man to my home. He said they do not replacement and asked me the situation and all my information. So I told the same information for the second time. After that, he told me to send the computer in and it is the only way they cover manufacturing warranty. If he told me the answer from the first, I would not have wasted the time on the phone!!! Now, we will wait another 2 to 3 weeks for the repair. Their product maybe OK for the money, but the customer service is definitely worst!!!! I will never buy their product.

After 4 months of moderate use of my brand new Dell Inspiron computer the keyboard stopped functioning. After multiple phone calls to a call center (where english was a second language and they could only respond to what was written in their script)I was told I would have to replace the keyboard myself. That failed, so after many more calls they agreed to send someone to replace the keyboard. They did.

After 7 months of less than moderate use, the keyboard and mouse pad failed. Many calls later, the repairman replaced both parts.

After 9 months of infrequent use, the hard drive crashed. After spending $89 at staples to copy my hard drive, and at least 4 hours of telephone frustration, including hangups, and restating the problem multiple times, I was "promised" that "Dell would make things right". I told them I wanted an extended warranty or a new computer," they told me "once the hard drive was replaced I would be "taken care of".

I made multiple phone calls to the "direct line" of the customer service person over the next three months. I resorted to writing to the owner of Dell, Michael Dell, received my letter and a few weeks later I got a call from someone that had no idea what the issue was. After explaining to him he said someone would get back to me.

Months later I did get a call, this person thought I was calling to have the hard drive replaced, nd told me I had missed that house call.Dell Optiplex Computer with 19 inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Single Core 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 750 GB Hard Drive, Windows XPDell Inspiron 14R i14RN4110-8073DBK 14-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black)Dell Inspiron 15RM i15RM-7412DBK 15-Inch Laptop (Black) The end result... This is my first laptop and it definitely meets my needs and expectations. The primary reason for the purchase was to have a portable computer/DVD player with WIFI for times when I travel and need a diversion on the plane/train and to have email and Internet access on my own account. I'm no guru and don't need anything for technical purposes; but based on my rather limited experience, Dell computers are the only ones I would own. It did not disappoint in that respect. It virtually set itself up right out of the box. Credit Microsoft for that, I guess. The only drawbacks keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that the battery life seems so short, particulary as I do like to Skype with family members... That really eats up the battery life. It's lucky if it lasts an hour. I will look into getting a longer-lasting battery if one is out there.

I'd recommend this Dell for anyone who needs a good basic laptop with WIFI. It did not come with any office type software except for some "trials" of MS Office. That is probably why the price was so reasonable. WIFI setup instructions could have been a bit better, but with a little help from my cable company it finally got done and works great. I can't wait to see how it works out there on a public WIFI connection.

The HP Pavilion DV6700t is a tough workhorse with many refined features. It has been very reliable, runs Win7 nicely with a 4GB memory upgrade I did. These are readily available on the used and refurbished market, and I believe one would be a good buy at $300 or so.

I am an computer enthusiast. When my wife allows, I get to upgrade. Been researching a long time between dv6 6172,6173,6180. I wanted the i7, a good graphics card, and able to do video editing. This computer came in a good packaging, brand new. I did not have the same experience of an earlier review. The silver brushed metal is beautiful. My only three minor gripes are the added hp software that i dont need, no back-up dvd(but you can make one), and 6gb memory instead of the typical 8gb. Upgrading though is easy. Also noticed that when i detached the bottom panel to see the configuration, its kinda scary that you can break the panel, then you end up with a messed up laptop. Anyway, I dont plan to keep opening that panel. Everything works.

Beats audio was no improvement from the previous altec lansing, but its also not that bad either. I am extremely satisfied with this and had to go through different laptops before stuck with this. HP is committed to service.

Out of the box the Windows Experience Index was:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz 7.5

Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB 7.6

Graphics Intel(R) HD Graphics Family 6.6

Gaming graphics 6.6

Primary hard disk 5.9

After running through setup, the first thing I did was visit the HP website to download the latest graphics drivers. This is a "must do" step to assure maximum performance from the machine. The system will default to the onboard Intel HD graphics unless it detects a graphics heavy application. You can click on the Catalyst Control Center in the system tray then click on the Power Tab "Switchable Graphics". Check the box for "Show a pop-up warning for unassigned applications". This allows you to select between Power Saving (Intel HD) and High Performance (AMD ATI 6770M). You want to set High Performance for games.

The graphics drivers are "HP specific" so you can't just download the latest drivers from AMD. You have to wait for HP to put their stamp of approval on them. I wish manufacturers would rethink this policy. They do this to simplify support for their systems but they sometimes handcuff gamers from needed (or wanted) performance updates or bug fixes.

I've played games like CoD MW3, F.E.A.R. 3, the Crysis series with their highest settings for 1366 x 768 without so much as a hiccup. Surprisinly, many of the games play well on the Intel HD graphics at lower settings.

Everything works as expected. The machine has a light around the touchpad which I find to be distracting. You can toggle it using "fn space". HP slathers on the bloatware so expect to spend some time removing it.

I brought the machine up to 8 GB of ram using Kingston ValueRAM 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM Notebook Memory and used Memtest+ 4.20 for 24 hours to validate the memory.

This is an excellent laptop for general use and gaming. The performance exceeds that of my year old Qosmio X505-Q894 excepting the screen is 15.6" versus the 18" on the Toshiba.

Updated January 4, 2012

I expected the machine to have higher gaming performance. It does, you have to make a bios adjustment to tell it to use the ATI 6770m graphics when plugged in instead of allowing it to choose Intel or ATI Graphics.

To make the change, tap the ESCape key while the computer boots. You will be presented with a list of things you can do. Select item F10 BIOS SETUP. Then select System Configuration then select Switchable Graphics. Change the selection to FIXED. The FIXED forces use of ATI 6770m when the computer is on external power.

The revised benchmarks are:

I'm very very happy with this laptop. I wanted buy a laptop which should had a core i7 processor and a good graphics card for several purpuse, so I decided buy this. Design is just amazing, it's beatiful and feels cold!

To do a quickly review, we have:

Keyboard: It feels good, is confortable to type in, although is plane (it doesn't have concave shape), but keys have a good size, besides the light in some keys is very usefull in the night, like wireless wifi (bluetooh), capital locks and mute.

Touchpad: It's very easy to configure and get exactly what you looking. Is very sensitive, soft and big. Comes with a driver called Synaptics, that allows change all the settings, it's very intuitive.

Also have a blue light border that turn off when the touchpad is off.

Screen: Is glossy but I love it, the intel graphics driver provided by catalyst (graphic card driver) allows configure bright, saturation, contrast improving view in a huge way, looks awesome.

Speakers: Are good but not great, sounds pretty high and can be configure to get a better quality. I calculated that are 4 in total, 2 in front and 2 more. Overall are good but zero bass.

Noise: I'm a little impress with the HP Coolsense driver that allows changed the frecuency of fan cooler (useful when you don't want to hear noisy and annoying sounds). Lower noise, lower performance.

Temperature: It's good. On the right side (touchpad) it's cold and on the left side it's warm. I did a medition with core temp and got: in idle state: 45 -50 C, and under load state: 70 75 C, which is good for a quad core processor.

Graphics Card: Completely awesome, I did run The elder Scrolls: Skyrim in details high and looks pretty good. Although i preffer run it with medium details like indicate the wizard game. I pretty sure that can run almost everything and I happy with this. The temperature didn't exceed the 75 C (100 C Max by Intel)

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion dv6-6180us Entertainment Notebook PC - Gray

This is my second HP laptop in the DV series and I've had it for about 3 months now (I kept the old one for 5 years). I'm a software developer so the laptop is mostly used for programming and database tasks.

The first thing I did was to upgrade the hard drive to a SanDisk 240GB SSD (disclosure: I work for SanDisk). Then I loaded up Windows 7 64-bit and it was easy. HP has all the drivers available and they were pretty easy to find.

With an SSD this laptop is extremely fast. It boots in a few seconds and even intensive programs like Visual Studio and SQL Server load fast and never pause.

The function keys are mapped to the quick task buttons by default (play/next/previous/volume/etc) so I had to go into BIOS to switch that back to normal. I'm sure the quick tasks are much more useful than function keys for most people, but programming editors use a lot of function key shortcuts.

The only other thing I don't like about the keyboard is the arrow keys. The up and down are half-height and I always have to look for a second to find them. Other than that, the soft Mac-like touch of the keys is great and the full number pad is nice.

I was surprised that I actually like the fingerprint reader. I've had one before and it was worthless, but the one on this laptop is actually convenient and useful.

Overall everything works great, it's very fast, and I'm really happy with this laptop.

This machine is not a performance powerhouse by any means, but it is a fairly priced good quality machine.

We bought this for our daughter about a month ago directly from HP, and it meets all of her needs. Yes, the screen could be higher resolution, the processor could be faster, and the hard drive speed could be faster, but all those things would add a lot to the price.

The battery life on this computer has been about 5 hours during normal use. We've only had an opportunity to fully test that (going from full to empty) twice, so it may vary depending on what you are doing and your settings.

This machine has Windows 8 installed on it, which is true of almost all new computers now. We definitely prefer most things about Windows 7 to Windows 8, although some things have been improved such as the task manager. (The task manager is that program that opens when you hit Control-Shift-Escape that tells you what programs and processes are running and how you computer is performing. They've added a ton of functionality to that feature of Windows.) Things that we don't like, such as the new start screen, aren't that big of a deal to get around. Overall, Windows 8 isn't a reason to dislike this computer, in my opinion. It takes a little getting used to, but overall it has as much good as it does bad, and we will eventually get used to or find work arounds for the few bad things.

This machine is a good value. It isn't blazing fast, but does web surfing and office applications just fine. If you are looking for a gaming machine, look elsewhere and plan to spend double what this laptop costs. If you are looking for a well made, basic machine, with a 17 inch screen than you won't be disappointed here.

We bought this laptop for my mom who is 82. She's quite computer literate for an old lady! She's mastered Windows 8 already! She just needs it for word processing and internet use (yes, she's on FB!) so this laptop is fine for her. It's a good value for a basic laptop! Not for gaming or anything high-tech, but fine for her!

My desktop computer is 17.5 inches so I thought a laptop that large would have a fare sized keyboard. It don't and they moved the location of important keys in relation to your hand position. They marked the 'F' keys as if they were a secret. The keyboard has reduced me to a hunt and peck typist.

The computer itself is quite satisfactory and has only one draw back. That is that it comes with Windows 8 (no choice and no disk). I have been using Windows for over twenty five years through many revisions. At 76, I can still hold my own on a PC, but this Windows 8 has stopped me in my tracks. I am just getting in programs and info that should have been done by the second day. HP and MS solve any question by putting the computer back to the condition that it arrived in. Windows 8 does not have a restore point that can be set and returned to. The preloaded data keeps trying to sell you something and there are no straight answers on how to backup your hard earned settings for retrieval. It is too big a step to go from a PC to this Pavillion and a crazy operating system like Windows 8.

If I could return it, I would, although there is nothing wrong with the computer other that the keyboard and the fact that I could not get my McAfee downloaded for hours and hours and could have gotten infected as the router setup was almost immediate. The viewing screen can not be taken past 90 degrees and makes you look at it from and angle. I fixed that by turning the laptop 'Targus' cooler backward and angling the keyboard. That didn't bother me as its layout has reduced me to hunt and peck.

I give HP (A good company) three stars and MS a minus three stars for trying to be a Macintosh, which I love but can not afford.

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion g7-2222us 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

`

A decent PC for the price, but there are several negat1ves to be aware of:

network port is NOT gigabit, it is only 10/100. So if you will be copying large files to this PC over a wired gigabit network (as most people do these days), then the transfer rate will be SLOW.

The keyboard lacks the standard inverted-T layout for the arrow keys. Most people that use the arrow keys for navigating spreadsheets, gaming, etc would consider the inverted-T arrangement very important.

Users Manual on the HP site is one-size fits all, it is NOT specific to this model of PC. Much of what is in the manual does not pertain to this PC.

Downloadable drivers on the HP site are for 64-bit Windows 8 only. So if you want to install Windows 7 on this PC, you could have a problem.

How long does the battery last? The answer is anyone's guess, because HP does not mention this anywhere. Also, what is the replacement lithium battery pack for this PC? Who knows, because the HP website does not have this information either.

I received my HP, and am still gettng used to all the features. I don't like Windows 8, but in fairness it has only been a short time. The one disappointment is the casing of this HP doesn't have the stability of my last two hp's. The hard drive is on the right side close to the front and when I pick up the computer, it seems as if it would be easy to crack or break. I am happy with the speaker's the volume is pretty good. Picture quality is also good. For the price I would recommend this computer, my order came with an upgrade to 6 mb for the memory.
