Best Sony VAIO VGN-NW150J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver Deals
I have owned this computer for 7 months now. At first, the space bar just stopped working. After a whole lot of time on the phone with support, they finally sent someone to come and fix the issue. Now it has issues with the touchpad, where it becomes unresponsive. Once again, I have spent hours on the phone with support (and I have SUCH a hard time with their asian accent!) re-installing drivers and now they refuse to send someone to fix the hardware issue until I completely reformat the machine. If the problem persists they will do something about it.
So, long story short, if I could do this all over again I would have purchased this computer from a store with the breakage protection, so I would not have to rely on their phone costumer service.
Also, be aware this also does not have built-in bluetooth :(
I also have a terrible time with the touchpad. But mine acts up every few minutes. It will stop responding to my finger and start doing its own thing. Since my computer is in the shop again I brought this item up to them again. Finally they think it might be a bad mother board causing all of my issues.
Overall when it works I love it. Since it hasn't worked correctly for the past three plus months I am ready to sell it and buy a Mac.

Like everyone else, I liked the computer until the mousepad went nuts. The pad works when it wants too but left click button is completly out which is a real pain. The only thing Sony support will tell you is to down load latest version of mousepad driver which of course does not work. Pretty bad when Sony clearly nows there is a problem with these pads but they will not admit it. Going back to HP.Best Deals for Sony VAIO VGN-NW150J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver
This computer had good reviews at the time of purchase. The computer is lightweight, has a fairly decent keypad, and the screen with Blu-Ray DVD is very nice for watching videos. But I have had continous ongoing problems with wifi connection in airports, coffee houses, and have given up taking the computer out of the house for this purpose (unwilling to go yet one more round with Sony support), and just yesterday the touchpad quit. Read many postings on touchpad problems with the Sony Vaio and this seems to be a consistent problem with a consistently poor response from Sony. There are many other choices for laptops that don't have these kinds of issues.Honest reviews on Sony VAIO VGN-NW150J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver
I have had this computer for 8 months. It is now in the shop for its third Hard drive. Now I know Sony is not to blame for a bad hard drive but it is very difficult to have to start everything over every month or so. When the computer works I love it. I love the HDMI output and blu ray player.I also have a terrible time with the touchpad. But mine acts up every few minutes. It will stop responding to my finger and start doing its own thing. I just bought this computer new and wanted to comment on the battery life of this computer since it really disappointed me. It says up to 5.5 hours but in never exceeds 2 hours even without wireless. I advice Amazon.com to correct their description in order not to mislead people. ThanksFriday, August 22, 2014
Toshiba Satellite U845W-S410 14.4-Inch Ultrabook (Midnight Silver) Review
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $999.99
Sale Price: $679.00
Today's Bonus: 32% Off

This laptop runs Ubuntu 12.10 well (touchpad is a bit over-sensitive). At home I keep it plugged into a 24 inch monitor. On the road it's battery life is great (6 hour+). The really weird screen size is absolutely perfect for airplane travel. It fits on the tray and because it isn't too tall you can actually open it up to get a comfortable viewing angle. After working on a massive screen at home, it was always a bummer to go to a little 14 inch (or smaller) screen. But the high resolution wide screen means I can continue to have tons of tabs and lots of split windows for editing code.
Its CPU matches new macbook airs. It has 6GB of ram. It's really light and thin. It is almost as portable as a netbook, as powerful as a desktop and the screen makes it trump everything else when it comes to travel. I bought mine for $650 after lots of comparison shopping. Highly recommend.

If you catch this on sale it's a steal, it's a good value even at the "regular" discounted price. See my review of the same model with 256 GB SSD and i7 CPU here: Toshiba Satellite U845W-S414 14.4-Inch Ultrabook (Midnight Silver)
The two machines are identical except for the CPU and SSD. The i5 in this model is quite capable as well and you get more storage in the 500 GB HDD. For the price you get an excellent, solid and very well built ultrabook with great performance and a lot of nice features, like three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI out port, the unique 21:9 wide screen display and very nice styling. The is a very attractive ultrabook and for productivity uses, it performs very, very well. The side-by-side windows are a treat for daily tasks and combined with the excellent speakers makes watching videos or listening to music a great experience. The speakers sound very good and are a big plus. Nearly all the comments in my other review apply to this model as well.
Text is clear and easy to read even at the 100% default setting, you can boost to 125% if you like, but even with my old, tired eyes I did not feel the need to do so. Also, one of the nicest looking Ultrabooks (in my opinion) around. Easy to carry and handle, too. Very sleek. The rubberized surfaces are wonderful every one should copy Toshiba on this aspect.
A top performer (excellent benchmarks) and an excellent value at the current discounted pricing.
**(Update: Discounted no more, alas!)**
Cons: short screen size makes it hard to view certain documents and websites; the screen has really terrible viewing angles and you can only see it if it is perfectly parallel to your face.
This was a decent laptop and I enjoyed using it for three weeks. Then it stopped working (would no longer power on). Dealing with Toshiba customer service has been frustrating as many of the representatives hang up randomly and their English is very difficult to understand. It will cost $25 to ship the laptop to their repair facility and I was warned that there is a chance my files will be wiped. Quite the annoyance for a laptop I bought just three weeks ago and only used lightly.

[UPDATE: Note -there was a strange problem with this notebook which also affected another reviewer here where the notebook "died" and would not boot. The battery would charge, but pressing the power key would do nothing. Of course, you could return to Toshiba for warranty service, but I happened to try something which apparently has worked to "fix" the problem (at least so far about 2 weeks with no issues as I post this). Since you cannot remove the battery, I simply left the laptop in a closet for a couple of months to let the battery drain (which it did). [I had earlier gone through various other efforts, charging the battery, etc. which did no good). However, once I let the battery drain completely and then plugged the A/C in, the laptop booted normally, the battery charged up, and everything appeared fine. I immediately did all the updates available, in the hope that whatever caused the problem was software related there have been some issues with sleeping and hibernation on laptops with Windows 7 in the past). After that, I have used the laptop normally. Put it into sleep mode, shutdown, on A/C, on battery power, and so forth and so far, so good. Fingers crossed. Based on this, I have restored my original 5 star rating on this excellent laptop.]Original review:

I'm very happy with this Ultrabook. It does everything I need it to do, and probably a lot more. But it's very thin and easy to stow in my briefcase, leaving a lot of room for other stuff. But the best feature is that it fires up very fast, so, if I want to use it for as little as 5-mins, I don't take most of that time waiting for it to be ready. At most, it takes 15-seconds to be ready to go. I'm a teacher, and move from classroom to classroom, so waiting around for a computer to get its act together isn't in the cards. This machine fills the bill!Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Review of Asus X53E-RS31 15.6" Notebook Computer (Intel Core i3-2350M
I did not get this on Amazon, but bought this at a (now) slightly cheaper price elsewhere. Having used this for several months, it's a good machine that has solid construction and is pretty fast. The battery life is decent, and the screen is crisp and clear. We use it for low-end tasks (Skyping) to higher-end stuff like video encoding. It seems to handle everything we throw at it the i3 processor is speedy enough for most things these days even some previously taxing games for my old Core 2 Duo. The scratch-resistant material is pretty nice and keeps the machine looking new.
I am primarily using this laptop for personal web design and development purpose. And the occassional games TorchLight2, League Of Legends, Dota2 (with lots of video settings in low mode). Recently bought a condenser mic to experiment acoustic guitar recording.
So far, I am happy with this i3 laptop for its price range which is almost 24-hours plugged in to the wall socket (I removed the battery for now) and just occassionally hibernate when I need to go out for more than 10 hours.

I purchased my labtop on April 1, 2012. The screen on my laptop began to flicker and I called in on April 31 to speak with a tech. I asked if there was anyway that I could recieve a new labtop and the tech told me even though I had only had the laptop for about a month it would have had to be dead on arrival for them to send me a replacement. So I agreed to go ahead and do a hard reset to see if that would fix the screen. It did not fix the screen for more than a month so I had to send in the Labtop on June 8, 2012 after several hard resets. On October 22, 2012 the screen begain to defect again so I did several more hard resets without any progress and begin calling customer service again on November 1,2012 where I was hung up on several times by employees whom seemed to be fustrated when I asked to recieve a new laptop due to the fact that this $536.54 laptop was once again broken and I have not had it for a year. After being put on hold for about a total of 4hours in a six hour time span I was told that a manager would call me. When the manager did call they only let the phone ring twice and then hung up. When I called back I was put on hold again for an hour and 9 minutes and the supervisor advised me to just send in the defective device so they could repair it again because they did not beleive that management would give me another device. There customer service is horrible to say the least. My labtop model is a X53ERS31 15.6 screen. I would advise anyone to steer away from Asus due to thier Customer Service.Best Deals for Asus X53E-RS31 15.6" Notebook Computer (Intel Core i3-2350M

Review of Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959 16.0-Inch Laptop - Black/Grey
I own several Toshiba laptops, and this is by far the most efficient one that I own. This laptop is perfect for my needs with college, work, and of course entertainment. I use Microsoft Office Professional on this computer and so far I haven't experienced any problems. I can work on Microsoft Powerpoint while listening to music on Itunes, and still search the web without experiencing any problems at all. This laptop is designed perfectly for typing, and the weight of this particular model is perfect when typing from your lap. I purchased my laptop from Office Depot for 575.00 it was the last day of the sale, but I would have paid much more for a machine of this quality. If you have any question than just reply to this message and I'll try my best to answer it for you, good luck on your decision!

Forget all of the complaints about Vista b/c those are the only complaints you will hear about this beauty. The machine is fast, responsive, and more of a laptop that most people will EVER need. It has sleek appearance and an amazing display. I just broke mine out of the box today and here I sit typing this review. I returned a HP Pavilion with a crashing hard drive and made the upgrade back to Toshiba. I will never go back!!!Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959 16.0-Inch Laptop - Black/Grey

Errm.. bought this three years ago. Still running good with-out any issues! Toshiba is known for long-lasting laptops. However speakers are so cheap, i can barely here. Sometimes, I think I am deaf. Please do yourself a favor and buy a headphones with it. I love the media control buttons. The web cam is cheap too, not great quality. Nice num pad on the right, THe keyboards types very nice!! Thats the best thing about it, the keyboard! It's heavy for a laptop. Battery is good. 3/5Saturday, July 19, 2014

I also bought this computer at Wal mart. I thought that I had done a good job of researching the reviews before buying. After sixteen months the computer completely died while watching a DVD. I checked my BIOS battery and was running up to date Norton 360. I called Toshiba and they offered to fix it for $350.00. After researching several forums I learned that this computer has a heat problem(mine never ran too hot)and that you need to have it fully taken a part every year to clean and repaste the heat sink. In the end I salvaged the hard drive and will never buy a computer on sale from Wal mart again.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915 17.0" Notebook (2.2GHz Celeron 900 3GB
For the average person what a wonderful buy. I had been looking for 2 years for a basic laptop at a decent price. Bought it at Walmart for $348.00. I have used it for about a month and am more than pleased with my purchase. It has good speed, the 17" screen is very nice, the portability is great(set up wirelessly and use anywhere around the house), battery lasts about 2.5 hours(on balanced setting)or plug it in. Vista basic is actually not too bad. The only thing I added was Windows Office 2003(because I'm used to it),however the existing software is adequate. All in all a good solid computer.Wednesday, June 18, 2014
Best ASUS B23E-XH71 12.1-Inch Laptop (Black) Deals
I have had so much trouble with this machine (**3** trips to Asus repair center and it's still not right!) that I have to rewrite my review. Lest anyone think I have a vendetta against Asus, nothing could be farther from the truth. I just opened my ASUS VivoBook X202E-DH31T 11.6-Inch Touch Laptop and THAT machine is behaving the way I would expect from the more than a dozen other Asus notebooks, laptops, and tablets I've bought for myself, family, and friends.
I am one of the closest things Asus has to a fan-boy without (as this review demonstrates) actually being one, so if I'm giving this notebook 1 stars, and recommending against buying it, something's up. It started out as the trackpad. Now, it's that and more.
Whenever I'm in the market for a product, I'll buy an Asus model if they make one. So, when I was looking for an i7 notebook, it was only natural that I'd get this one. It's i7 fast. While I wish the hard drive were larger, 500Gb is nothing to sneeze at. Nice screen. Fingerprint reader, if I ever decide I want to try it. But then there's that *&%&*% trackpad.
It's hard to type a full paragraph without the cursor jumping around the page at some point. It's bad enough that I wish I'd never bought this machine. I'm getting really good at using Ctrl-z to erase the messes the trackpad makes.
* It's not the driver. I've tried three different ones at all range of settings, all with the same results. Right now, I'm back to the original with Smart Detection as great as I can make it, and the cursor has still been jumping around nearly a dozen times (with me having to go back and make corrections) as I type this review.
* I don't think it's me. As I've said, I've got a bunch of Asus notebooks and netbooks.
* I don't think it's this particular machine because I've searched the Web to find others with the same complaint. If I turn off the trackpad and use a mouse, everything is fine, but if I wanted to turn off the trackpad and use a mouse, I wouldn't have bought a laptop.
* This machine has been back to Asus TWICE and each time it has come back as jumpy as before and now the left button sticks under the top (bad alignment) unless it's pressed just right. I'd send it back again but I just sent it back for that problem and it came back the same way.
I'm sick and tired of pressing Ctrl-Z and Ctrl-Y to recover after the cursor goes off on its errant way.
I tried the *free* utility Touchpad Blocker, which locks the touchpad for a short period (from 0.1 sec to 3 sec; I like 1 sec) after a keyboard key is pressed. At one point it got me to upgrade my review to 3 stars, but do you know the joke about Sam the Tailor? (Credit: I cut and pasted the text from iamlearningdisabled dot com and tweaked it a bit.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A guy goes to Sam the Tailor to have a suit made. He comes back and....
"This suit doesn't fit me at all!"
"What's wrong with it?"
"Well, the right sleeve is too long"
"So, raise your shoulder and it will be fine". He raises his right shoulder.
"But the left sleeve is too short!"
"So, hold your arm like this and it will be fine!" He holds his left arm in that position
"But it's too big in the chest!"
"So arch your back and stick out your chest and it will be fine". He arches his back and sticks out his chest.
He pays.
He's walking down the street: One shoulder raised, one arm crooked, back arched, chest out.
Another guy stops him and says "You poor man! Who is your tailor?
"Sam the Tailor. Why?"
"Because if he can fit you, he can fit anyone!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this machine must have been contracted to Sam the Tailor...and I'm tired of it. In fact, I'm SO tired of it that after I get the X202E up and running, this machine is going back too Asus again...and yet again, until they get it right! I'll keep you posted.
I try to keep reviews balanced. *IF* (that means a BIG "if") you would be content to never use the trackpad (that is, use a mouse, instead) 4 or 5 stars would be appropriate. It's an i7 and runs like it. The overall Windows score is limited by the graphics. But, if the trackpad matters at all, stay away!
Misc items from my original review.
Yes, it DOES NOT have a DVD drive. Other business models do, but this one does not, as can be seen on the Asus website. I'm guessing it's to keep the size and weight down, which is why I chose this model.
Battery life is mediocre at under 3 hours, but such is the price of an i7 processor, I guess, and that's what I got this machine for...its speed. If I need more battery life, I'll grab a netbook.
I could go on, but with the trackpad behaving the way it does and a "Don't buy!" recommendation, is there a point to it?
The performance on this laptop is top-notch, as should be obvious by the i7 processor and 7200RPM HDD. An SDD would obviously be faster, but then you'll have to settle for a lot less space. The battery life is decent, nothing impressive; but that's to be expected considering that this is quite a powerhouse for its size.
I think 12" screens are optimal for laptops. 11" and below are too small, and 13" and above are too big. This is compact and light, but also comfortable enough to type on.
But there are issues I have with the trackpad. I do not like that they do not have side-scrolling via the edge of the trackpad. You have to use two fingers to scroll. Side-scrolling is so much simpler, and I don't see why ASUS would switch to a trackpad vendor that uses such stupid scrolling methods.
Also, the placement of the headphone and microphone jacks is absolutely ridiculous. It's positioned right where the edge of your left palm will rest while typing on the keyboard. It's extremely uncomfortable, and I'm not sure who is the moron who designed this placement, but I hope they're out of a job today.
I'm on the fence of giving it three stars, but I have to give it four because it's next to impossible to get a powerful Windows 7 laptop these days. Everything is just moving more and more into Windows 8, and I don't want to put up with that. This is a fairly good machine for the price despite some stupid design choices.
I am one of the closest things Asus has to a fan-boy without (as this review demonstrates) actually being one, so if I'm giving this notebook 1 stars, and recommending against buying it, something's up. It started out as the trackpad. Now, it's that and more.

I have had no problems with this computer. It is very fast, light and I am enjoying it. Sorry that I am not a tech person, so someone else will have to tell you those things. I sure can say that I like ASUS products.Best Deals for ASUS B23E-XH71 12.1-Inch Laptop (Black)
Think the only thing i didnt like about it is its a little heavy 4a little computer have a 10" single core internet labtop & its light as heck guess thats what u get when u actually pay for a real processor.Honest reviews on ASUS B23E-XH71 12.1-Inch Laptop (Black)
First, everyone giving one-star ratings for the lack of an optical drive is obviously being unfair. This laptop is not marketed as having one. Do some research next time.

The back-lit keyboard is perfect.
I bought this after going through the Dell 15R, and Lenovo GS500.
Processing speed is ok.
However, get an external mouse handy at all times. Trackpad, while large, is not as smooth as it looks.
Vertical/horizontal scroll is very spotty. Only works about 15% of the time.
I've gone through blogs that suggest update the driver, which I did. It still has the issue.
Best thing to do: Buy this from a store that accepts returns well after 30 days (i.e., Costco) so you can return it and avoid technical support denials.

Cheap Dell Black 17.3" Inspiron 1764 Laptop PC with Intel Core i3
I purchased this as a gift for my husband, had it 120 days and the screen cracked. Unfortunately, it was only guaranteed for 90 days so now I am without a screen/laptop. Not a happy camper!
I wanted to stick with a name brand even know they are pretty much all made in China, Korea etc........

I bought this for my 88 year young mother who has moved in an assisted home but she was not comfortable with the display so I gave it to my girl friend. It has better ratings (Windows Experience index) than her 3 year old desktop and it is still win 7 which my mom and girl friend would rather have. (they both are not good with learning new ways ! , My mother especially so ! )I wanted to stick with a name brand even know they are pretty much all made in China, Korea etc........

In regards to the poor review, the packaging states to update the Dell Driver upon first using it. This prevents any crashing, and updates to the most current driver. This was a steal. I was looking for a windows 7 OS, and this computer is fast and has lots of memory. Must have!Saturday, February 22, 2014

Before purchasing his laptop, I'd done a ton of research to find the most appropriate Windows 8 PC/tablet hybrid. Once I decided on the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11s, with this processor and in this color, it turned out that it wasn't available ANYWHERE, not at Best Buy and not even from Lenovo. I was thrilled, therefore, to find it on Amazon, though I was disappointed that I wouldn't get it for the sale price being offered at Best Buy. I was a bit hesitant to make this kind of purchase online (expensive, unknown seller, etc.), but I'm glad I took the risk. My laptop was shipped out within hours, and I received it in less than 3 days. I was extremely pleased with Cell Locker's service, and the laptop itself is a dream! Small, very light and ultraportable. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but beyond that I'm having a lot of fun. Lenovo has made an awesome product with this one, responsive, versatile, and gorgeous. The clementine color is really eye-catching, and I've already received lots of compliments on it. Overall, VERY pleased with this purchase!!

Review of HP dv6t QE Laptop - Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel i7-2630QM 2.0GHz
This laptop completely overheats quite often. This laptop gets so hot it caused 4th degree burns on my childs lap.
What the major drawback about it is that due to improper cooling vent placement and super hot processor, the whole
laptop basically combusts and can get hot enough to fry an egg on. Buy this laptop if you want a dud. Oh do I
even have to mention that the laptop auto turns off when it overheats... buy it if you like wasting money!

HP ENVY Ultrabook 4-1038nr Review
The HP Envy is a nice ultrabook. It is light, fast, has nice features, audio is good. My only real complaints are the glare from the computer screen in all kinds of natural light and the smudging that occurs everywhere on the ultrabook. In any natural light, even indoors there is a glare on the screen causing it to be difficult to read. I am looking into an anti-glare screen protector to prevent this. As for the smudging there isnt a whole lot you can do. Just use a rag to clean off all the oils from your hands.
Also, when I called for technical assistance, they had to pass me along to about 3 or 4 different technicians because the laptop is a specialty model and needed further assistance. I got the information I needed but took a bit of time to receive it.When I got this computer I was impressed by much of it. it was light, sleek, and fast. It's backlit keys were a big plus, much like on the MacBook. The trackpad worked fine. My biggest drawback, and it's not inconsequential, is the quality of the screen. The resolution is only so-so and you could easily be looking at a screen on a computer from many years ago, it just doesn't compare well to newer laptops in resolution or color purity. That said, it's also much less expensive than the laptops I'm referring to, namely MacBooks. So if you're looking for a good, solid, lightweight Ultrabook with excellent battery life at a righteous price ($650-$700 range) you could be very happy with this machine.

Compaq CQ57-229WM 15.6-inch AMD Dual-Core 1Ghz Laptop Reviews
I'm visually-impaired, so I hate laptops. Just can't see what I'm doing on most of them. This one surprised me.
My Mother retired this year, so I had to get her a new computer for use at home and while traveling. She mostly uses one for internet browsing and emails, etc. So I didn't have to get something with all the fancy bells and whistles. Didn't need top-of-the line speed, etc. Just something solid and basic.
I set this computer up on a home network, and was pleasantly surprised at the ease if was to operate, once I configured the display so I could read it. Streaming video via internet was smooth. Downloaded and installed all new updates in about 15 minutes.
The keyboard is solid, easy enough to navigate. The touchpad is a little different, solid plastic, not LCD. So I did install a wireless mouse to make it easier for Mom to surf. She's having fun learning what all the new little icons stand for on Win 7 Home Premium, instead of the older XP. Still prefers the old look of Solitaire over this one.
Overall, with the included features, like the DVD/CD burner, 3 USB ports, the built-in webcam, 250 GB hard drive, built-in card reader, and wireless networking, I'm pleased with this computer. and Mom loves it, too.
very good performance
speed is very good
not that bad
battery life isnt that great so i had to lower screen brightness

I have an iPhone and I use it as my primary computer for media and internet browsing. I really just wanted a simple PC I could use for a few tasks a smart phone cannot accomplish (or do so easily) such as downloading files, using iTunes, and creating documents.
Don't expect a high end experience. Programs will take at least a few seconds or more to begin but they run well once they are open. The battery lasts a few hours but not enough for long periods of use away from a plug-in. If you know what to expect and it fits your needs I certainly recommend this computer.

I bought this same laptop from Walmart for $100 less on 10/13/11. The picture in the ad on this site is incorrect. There is no separate number key pad. The software, memory, processer is a great buy for the price. The low cost is probably because the laptop hardware itself looks a little cheap such as the casing and keys. But if your main focus is cost for value, you can't go wrong!!Best Deals for Compaq CQ57-229WM 15.6-inch AMD Dual-Core 1Ghz Laptop
