The laptop arrived well enough but while building the Microsoft profile there was an interruption and upon resuming I got the error message "Profile Cannot Be Loaded." Since the laptop comes without any media and no DVD drive, I am unable to recover. I called Microsoft and HP for support. Microsoft didn't want to know and told me to call HP. After getting shuffled around from telephone number to telephone number, being asked each time the same questions over and over again, I reached Jason in the Philippines. After trying every function key combination possible and then some, it was determined that I needed to recover the system. HP promised to send me USB recovery software. This all happened around midnight on August 8. I was promised 1 day shipping. Well, four days later I am down and waiting. I called HP and was told that the recovery software would not ship till August 18. The blame being put on FedEx and the approaching typhoon.

My experience with HP, be it the iPaq, the LX6XX handheld or any of their PCs, has ben that nothing ever works quite right and HP abandons you.

To anyone who reads this do NOT buy any ENVY laptop from HP try Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo or Acer and you'll probably have less grief and not have to fumble around with the very small function keys of the ENVY.

This is a fast and well conceived laptop. The touch screen is smooth and very helpful especially for reading documents or just scrolling through websites. The SSD drive is much faster than anything else, obviously. For me, it came down to this high end ENVY vs a high end mac book pro. (same processor). I saved the 1000 dollars and gained the touchscreen. However, the interaction between touch screen and mouse pad is definitely glitchie. No crashes yet but there are times where one or the other just freezes. I am hoping they will work these problems out in future HP updates. Overall, I would recommend this computer but still wonder if I should bought a mac.

Hi, I just received this new Acer Aspire V7 from Amazon.com. I am typing this review from my new laptop and would like to share the first review. I have owned plenty of other laptops from various manufacturers in the past, including Apple, Toshiba, Asus, Acer, etc. I was drawn to this particular laptop because of the Generation 4 Haswell processor. As of this writing, this is one of the first laptops to offer the Haswell chipset. The keyboard is fairly spacious and the keys are pretty tactile and responsive.

I am happy to report that my wifi has been working flawlessly so far. No hangups or dropped connections! The new sony pro 13" and macbook air both have/had their share of wifi problems. I'm glad that this computer is working fine out of the box!

The trackpad is probably the only minor downfall (besides windows 8), the track-pad is a little fidgety when it comes to scrolling pages up and down. Otherwise it works decently. I will be purchasing a new Bluetooth mouse anyways, so this wont effect me too much.

Pros:

Generation 4 Haswell Intel Processor

8GB of Ram standard (most still offer 4GB)

Less than 1 inch thick

Under 5 lbs

7.5 Hour battery life! (I have not had this laptop long enough to verify this. But I will update when I get some more battery only usage).

Sleek, clean professional look

Backlit keyboard

Excellent price ~815.00 as of this writing.

Relatively small power brick and cord. NOT apple magsafe small, but still smaller than other PC laptops. The power brick is about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Super tight and strong hinge. The screen will not budge and is very firm.

Loud speakers, (I'm not saying they sound good, but they are loud!)

Perfect display, no dead pixels etc.

Lots of HDD space

Very fast for 90% of all computing tasks (not for gaming though)

Runs cool and quiet. The bottom of the unit gets warm, but nothing too uncomfortable.

Cons:

Windows 8 ( I really dislike this OS., I much rather use Mac OS or Win 7)

Cheap packaging,

Horrible manuals and documentation. Pretty much nothing included.

No backup disk of any sort

Most of the ports, including power is on the back of the unit! the only ports on the side are 1 USB on each side, 1 headphone and 1 SD slot.

Tons of stupid bloatware (useless free software).

Crappy low resolution front camera, but its fine if you just want to skype.

Tiny power button located on the side. Not a big deal but it could get bumped in a bag or case.

I hope my review helps you when making a choice, I took one for the team and ordered this without any prior reviews. Glad its working out so far!

++++UPDATE++++

The external power button on the side of the unit is not a problem. When the laptop is off and the lid is shut, the power button is inactive. So you don't need to worry about it accidentally turning on while in a laptop case/bag.

Unit boots up in about 12 seconds! (from fully off)

Wifi still working very well. Strong signal bars, solid connection off of my AT&T u-verse wireless router.

When I read some of the reviews for this product, I was a little discouraged from purchasing this notebook. I received it today and I can definitely say that the negative reviews are from people that are very picky! For the price, this notebook is a quality piece of technology! The only issue I have is the lack of a better quality screen, but it is something that can be easily looked over. The WIFI is not causing me any problems at this point, but will update after I have used it for a couple of day! IT IS A VERY NICE PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE!

**********UPDATE************

What's up AMAZON Costumers? I did a short typed review on the Acer V7-582p-6673 a couple of weeks back the day I received the product. I see know that I was not very clear on the review of this product and I apologize for that, but I had only had it for a day! I am now doing a video to show how great the webcam is and a more in-depth review. The first V7 I received it had to go back that night, because I received what is called a lemon. Which in short terms, means a bad product out of a group of perfect ones. I contacted Amazon and they had one shipped to me over night, so I was without a computer for less than 24 hours! Which is GREAT Now that I have had this Acer V7 for a couple of weeks I can now do an in-depth review! First, the positives of this products! First things first...it's beautiful! The sleek metallic lined cover is very professional with a hint of coolness to it. The inside is the same color, just not as metallic, but still very nice. Second....The keyboard has Chiclet keys, which are small flat keys that are separated for comfort. Some people will give this a negative review, due to the fact that they are used to high raised keys that have highly notable pressure points to know exactly when you are hitting the keys. I myself do not have a problem with this keyboard at all. I actually put it in the positive review because of the key style and them being well responsive keys. The third positive review is the touch screen! IT IS HARD TO SAY MORE THAN IIII LOOOVE IIIIITTTT! If you have a tablet or don't having a touch screen is awesome especially with windows 8. (Hint: Windows 8 is a lot simpler with a touch enabled computer than one that is not.) More on Win. 8 later. The touch screen comes with handwriting to text recognition, which is almost scary, how well it reads your handwriting. You can quickly scribble a word or words and it will pick it up pretty fast. If you can't get it to...just click the word and choose which you would like. The software will learn your handwriting after using it for a while. Now the next is the middle line of positive and negative. WINDOWS 8!!! If you know Microsoft, they come out with a crazy, lake of a better word, o s then the next is awesome! Even though people hate windows 8, it is quite fun and easy to use when you get used to it!!! There are hundreds and hundreds of apps, software, and games that barely take of space, but are powerful that are awesome! It my opinion the free stuff is better than the paid. Second the disk drive...or lack thereof! This is not really a negative, but not a positive either. Thanks to streaming, downloading software, and other ways to push disks/cds/dvds into the past, you really do not a cd/dvd player anyway! If you really want one...pay 10 dollars and get a really nice USB one from AMAZON!!! I USE IT AND IT IS GREAT! The last middle of positive and negative reviews is the resolution! For a nice touch screen computer that can run pretty good games...which people say it is not good for but I disagree? PORTAL BTW RUNS GREAT! The system does not have the best resolution! When you are used to a 1080p screen... and then receive a computer with (what the companies call 1366*768) it is not as great...GO FIGURE! What people don't understand is the (I) and (p) after the second resolution number. The native/recommended highest resolution 768 is actually 720i! Which is higher than 768!!! It is close to 720p, but for those that are really picky...they will notice it. When most people...me being a gamer, with a PS3 and a desktop that can play any game at the highest graphics...I just needed a simple computer for school. So the resolution is just fine! AND LAST! People that complain about connection drops from the internet...I have no idea what these people are talking about! I have not had one drop that's is even before the 52 updates it needed upon opening the box!!! So...GET THE COMPUTER!!!! To sum up....ITS THIN....LIGHT....BEAUTIFUL...FUN...ALL AROUND GREAT COMPUTER!!!!

First laptop worked for about a week, then started freezing up within about 8-10 minutes of booting up. Amaon replaced it very quickly, pain-free to me. However, the replacement didn't even make it two hours before completely dying. I cannot even power it on. Ounces like a great product in concept, but the quality of the parts as well as quality of Qc checking seems to be greatly lacking. This is having a disastrous effect on me as I am looking for a job, and cannot submit my resume from my tablet in most cases.

I picked up this computer from BestBuy for 399. The specs were a little different. Same RAM but a 1TB HD with no solid state component and an i3-3120M processor instead. Intel on has a recommended price of $287 for the processor in this machine versus about $225 for the i3 in mine. Considering the total price difference is $450 and only $62 is explained by the processor increase you are paying almost $390 more for a smaller hard drive with a tiny solid state component. My version was on sale for $100 off making the actual difference $350 normally, but still while this is a great laptop value for your dollar is better spent on the BestBuy variant.

This machine is built to withstand almost anything you throw at it. The build quality and materials are exceptional. From a industrial design and manufacturing perspective, it is even nicer than a MacBook Pro.

I really like this machine, except for one issue, screen resolution. Apple has proven how beautiful and productive higher resolution displays can make even a laptop. Spending the extra money, weight, and bulk to get a 17.3 inch display should result in more room to work. Because the resolution on this machine is no higher than it is on 15 inch machines, you get a display that isn't as attractive and doesn't fit nearly as much content on it as it could with a higher resolution. This is especially important for content creators and for people that work in spreadsheets, but really it is an issue for all professional users. Apple gets this with their Retina displays, Google gets it with their Pixel laptop, and Dell gets it with their Ultra high resolution series of displays. Hopefully HP will make a higher resolution display available soon on their workstation class laptops.

The only excuse for the screen resolution on this machine is that most people are going to use it in a docking station with external monitors. I have mine attached to 2 Dell U2713HM Ultra High resolution displays. The screen resolution only bothers me when I am using this machine on the road, but then again, that is the whole reason I bought the 17.3 inch workstation.

When you are deciding on which machine to buy, I recommend you consider the screen resolution issue. A 15 inch or even 13 inch machine with similar specs and the same resolution display might save your back and shoulder some pain from lugging this heavy machine around.

Dell XPS XPS15-1579sLV 15-Inch Laptop
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

There aren't many laptops on the market that can offer the ergonomics and build quality of this new XPS 15. I wanted an Ultrabook like feel/battery life, but with a larger 1080 screen and disc drive. I have never before been impressed by a Dell product, but they have clearly stepped up their game and this fit the bill perfectly.

I have been using this computer for about a month now, and I honestly have 0 complaints. While this is the most basic XPS 15 offered, it still gives excellent performance. The i5 on this particular model is only dual core, but I have had no problems gaming or with any other task I have given it. Coming from a quad core AMD on my previous laptop, this processor hands down performs better, not to mention, I can usually squeeze a good 4+ hours of use out of the battery.

The screen is brilliant and the fact that it is 1080p makes the 15" screen feel like a 20" screen when carrying out everyday tasks. If you're looking for something sleek and solid with an HD screen like--dare I say--a MacBook, look no further. Perhaps I was being picky but in looking through just about every Windows laptop currently available, this was the only one of its kind. Compare the price of this to that of a similar MacBook Pro and the XPS 15 is a clear winner. I have to agree with the other reviewer that said this laptop is worth every penny.

One thing to note is that the hard drive seems to be more of an HDD/SSD hybrid drive. From what I can tell, you cannot access the 32gb SSD portion independently from the HDD portion. It will act as a single 500gb drive, but the 32gb SSD gives it some sort of "cache" that improves performance and boot time.

UPDATE: Buyer beware. I really like this laptop but there are some well known issues with the wifi due to the aluminum. Under certain scenarios, you WILL NOT get the same throughput as you will on any other cheaper laptop. I also ended up purchasing another one of these. The 2nd unit I purchased has recently started making an incredibly annoying squeaking sound that sounds like it is coming from the hard drive.

I am extreemly impressed not only does it have beautiful graphics but super fast. I really recommend it, learning Windows 8 is a real trip. Amazon got it here ahead of schedule my compliments to the organization.

Yes, a RGB screen. But it probably means nothing to people who are not nerds. Beside, you get what you paid for. DELL has started order from the major Chinese supplier of Apple, so there should be no quality issue at all. Mine works great so far.

It is great laptop, mine came with some bad wifi issue but that was resolved by Dell quickly.

The look and feel of this laptop is very good and when you will hold such a kind of laptop, you would never want to go for something below level from this Laptop.

You will not find any information about this laptop with value as XPS15-1579sLV as that value is amazon internal, which was confirmed by Dell to me.

To get more appropriate value, look for DELL XPS 15 L521X. By searching this you can find all the information that you need.

Great value of the price and functionality wise too.

The Screen 1080p quality is really amazing and boot time is 3 seconds, that is true 3 seconds from the time you press power on button to see Windows 8 screen.

This laptop has everything I need--light weight, long battery life (more than 4 hours), a huge and beautiful screen, fast speed, much less crap software compare to my Toshiba Notebook, and a perfect keyboard which allows you to type very fast once you get use to it. And it doesn't get hot. All of those features only for $520 makes it a great deal.

I want to mention that if you need to make the laptop to display other language such as Japanese, Chinese etc. like I do, you don't need to download anything, just do: Control panel-clock language and region-change the date, time or number format-administrative-change system locale and choose the language, and windows will then restart and update it automatically.

**REVISED (SEE BELOW)

Alright, I have a major revision to the review that I previously wrote originally. The HP Laptop (which seemed nice at first) had to be returned for an exchange. The reason? The 650 Gig Hard drive stopped working after six days, because it was defective.

I got the blue screen of death when booting up Windows. At first, I thought it was a software crash. But, after using HP Tools in the Boot Manager, to conduct a hardware examination, I soon learned the hard drive was failing. I was shocked. I've never had this happen before with any computer or hard drive I've purchased new. That's why I've revised my rating for this product down to two stars.

I was sort of lucky because the little bugger stopped working within the 14 day return period. But, I ache for the customers who may not be so lucky. So far, I'm crossing my fingers with this replacement laptop. After a few disk self tests (DST) in the HP boot manager, everything seems kosher (but, again, I'm waiting to see.)

As I said previously, I currently own both an HP Netbook and this model.

My original review about the pluses for this machine remain unchanged. In my current line of work, I use my laptop to write articles for an online media publication. I'm guilty of falling asleep while using my laptop. When I was using, just my netbook, it could get searing hot, despite internal fan. For the most part, the 1260 remains cool to the touch.

This model is outfitted with a roomy 640 Gig hard drive (barring defects), a 4 gig RAM memory and a large 17" LED screen. I liked that the keyboard is nice and roomy. I can complete my articles without fearing that the mouse will reposition itself onto another part of the screen while I'm writing an article. The touchpad mouse can be turned on and off (with a button in the left corner). You can even scroll and adjust the zoom using the touch pad. On the right side of the keyboard, there is also a number pad, for accountants, mathematicians, etc; to complete their tasks.

There's also a HDMI plug (cord has to be purchased separately) to hook up with your HDTV. Additionally, there is a SD memory slot (for photographers who like snapping pictures) to easily upload pics to your computer. There are three total USB ports and an internal DVD-R drive.

The HP G7 also comes with a full, customizable version of Windows 7. No backup disk is included with this laptop, so be sure to create one when you first receive your laptop with the HP Recovery Manager. The manager will only allow you to create one full copy (which is four DVDs total). The machine only comes with an evaluation version of Microsoft Office and a 90-day evaluation copy of Norton Antivirus.

I'm going to nitpick, again, here, in spite of its positive features, the speaker quality is sub par. For music lovers who listen to Pandora, watch YouTube or like listening to music on their laptop, the stereo surround sound quality (from Altec Lansing) is poor. I've had similar problems with my HP Netbook, and thought by upgrading I'd get better speaker quality. Not the case. It also comes with a webcam.

The gray case is plain, imo, not so much shiny silver, but a muted charcoal gray. Not very flashy or trendy, if you're looking for your computer to be artsy. I plan on getting a sticker cover to customize mine.

With this model, you'll also have a one year HP warranty. Keep on your toes... you just might need it.

I want to warn customers to make sure that you have copies of your UPC code (don't throw away the box like I almost did). Keep copies of your original receipt on hand in a safe place just in case you have to exchange. Also, do a system diagnostics when you first purchase this machine (hitting the "ESC" after setting up Windows (on reboot). Select the "F2" key from the menu and conduct a system diagnostics to see if your hard drive and other hardware are in good condition.

Best Deals for HP Pavilion g7-1260us 17.3" Notebook (2.2GHz Intel Core i3-2330M

I have owned this laptop for a week now. The processor and memory combination exceed my expectation and needs! This laptop replace my three year old Dell Inspiron 1525, the LED back-light is wonderful, colors and and brightness have improved dramatically. The computer runs cool all of the time and fan noise is minimal. The keyboard is going to take getting used to, being flat with the numeric pad on the right, I need to learn where the keys have moved from my old laptop. Battery life is easily 3.5 hours. My only concerns are the DVD drive door seems to be loose (not really a big deal), the other concern is the sound on this machine seems to be a little muffled, but that is something I think I will get used to. I would recommend this to a friend.

I don't comment much,Short but sweet! This is a Awesome PC for the $$! speedy processor and memory.Verynice upgrade, from my last HP laptop.

I researched all laptops at the time and found the " HP g7-1260us Notebook PC with

2nd generation Intel® Core(tm) i3-2330M Processor with several extras like 3 USB ports,HARD DRIVE * 640GB 5400RPM hard drive, 17.3" diagonal HD LED display, 1 HDMI* 1 VGA (15-pin). YES HDMI AND HD !!!

My wife has used it mainly as a online browser, email, fb, etc. It does well for her usage....Then I tried it on my passion, Zynga games, Mafia Wars which requires several bookmarks and having many windows open while running scripts. I had been using a very expensive Dell laptop with games using Chrome and after opening 15-20 windows the Dell would crash. This HP will run over 20 screens including scripts that drains memory w/o crashing. I am trying to say that it does better than my $1500 Dell so far.

I was a little concerned about the HP reputation as being described as many complaints on HP Customer Service. But as of over 2 months of use it performs very well and because of this I have not dealt with their Customer Service. It can't be any worse than Dell's CS.

The keys and pad are quiet, no loud clicking and very soft. Long battery life for a 17 monitor. The only thing that I dislike is the mouse pad, as it is not visible and a bit of getting used to, but my daughter has not even noticed. Fan runs as needed buht not that you notice any noise except on startup......I a not going to bore you with the specs as they are easily found under product description. Basically the same specs as any other 17.3 laptop that has a i-3 Intel CPU. The only other thing I can think of is that you need to watch the price and try to catch it on sale. This HP model is no WalletMart HP, it's much better equipped.

Chasis:

The laptop is handsome if you're into the dull black thing. The entire base is composed of a monotoned strong plastic with hints of rubberization. Satisfied here. On top of said plastic the lid dons an apple-esk msi logo in the center, surrounded by what looks like aluminum with a satin long brush finish. I like it. It's aesthetically pleasing and of sound quality for the price. The hinges hold the screen firmly in place except for when the laptop is shut. There's a noticeable amount of play here because there's no latch, passing the job to the hinges. I don't like this design aspect and suspect corners were cut; however, the price is right. The keyboard, as one of the main selling points, is of course extremely aesthetically pleasing although lacks in practical performance. There is pliability in the unit which is something that takes away from the overall experience. Tactile feedback is affected from this. On a 1 to 10 scale, I'd give the keyboard a solid 5. Once again, corners were cut here.

The rest of the chasis is quite sound. No bending creaking or malleable areas noticed so far.

Noise suppression is superb. In a normal home environment with standard ambient levels, the machine is whisper quiet.

All in all, a sound chasis with sweet eye candy for the price.

Screen:

I considered alienware, dell, lenovo, and maingear when shopping and I'm happy I went with this machine because for 1600 (before tax), I got a FHD screen which is very easy on the eyes. The pixelation coefficient approaches 0 level, homogonizing the screen with your eyes' periphery. Couldn't be happier here. A solid 9.

Internals:

Of course, i7, 12 gb mem, and an mSSD cause this machine to be lightning fast. I was able to customize and set up this computer in record time, smashing any control system before it. And, as hard drive latency is a pet peeve of mine, I feel those days are behind me. Haven't gamed on it yet but normal operation is a delight. Even though Windows 8 is an abysmal performance hog, putting aesthetics and marketing for its own end before the needs of the end user, the combined performance of the mSSD, ensures minimum hard drive overhead, delivering the fullest power of the i7. Th mSSD is the real star here. With its 1,000 mbps reads, it bests any SSD. I'm able to run all my dev apps like VS 2012 and IDA Pro simultaneously with a dozen or so open tabs in Chrome, utilities, etc. Since this was the main reason I'd bough the laptop, I'm more than pleased in this category. The only tweak I see myself needing to make is a downgrade to Win 7. A loose 10.

Trackpad:

The consensus seems to be that there's little love for this trackpad. I'm satisfied with it so far. The material is all but certainly identical to the lid. Response is good. GUI driver interface with lots of options was good too. A solid 6.

Wireless: They call it Killer and now I know why. 2.2 mbps is the fastest I've ever had. Solid 8.

As for the many rest of the features of this laptop. Such as :

Camera

GTX 770M w/ 3GB MEM you can run apps on the gphx processor!

Gaming

Battery performance

Burn test

I've yet to use them. If my initial impression serves as a model, I shouldn't be disappointed and neither should you.

PROS:

FHD

i7

*mSSD*

1600 USD

CONS:

Keyboard

Screen latch

1600 USD ;)

Update: The keyboard issue turned out to be too bothersome to ignore so I ended up returning the laptop requesting a replacement. Amazon gave me a refund instead and blew the sale. I ended up going with Maingear.

My old laptop just didn't work for the gaming I do now, so I got this.

Speed and Storage:

This is one fast beast! So fast that this laptop gets to the logon screen before the "loading wheel" even shows up! Many of the games I put on this computer also start pretty fast. I believe this is due to the Toshiba 128GB SSD which comes with this model (there's different variations of the GT60 with different specs, so be careful), and is also part of the reason I got this model in particular. I also believe this comes with one of the newer Intel CPU's that came out recently, so that helps even more. The secondary (internal) 1TB hard drive that comes with this, which, even though it's not an SSD, is pretty fast too. I have all of my games installed on the secondary hard drive, and they load very quickly.

Graphics

WOW! I get blown away by the Frames-per-second with games on this one! So much that it might be better than my desktop. Many of my games operate at framerates that are quite comfortable to play with. I believe that this laptop has a GTX 770M Graphics processor. Also, the display is a 15-inch 1920x1080 (1080p?) display, which is very clear, and also seems to have not all that bad of color accuracy from the basic looks.

Keyboard, input, etc.

The keybord? Very comfortable. It appears that this keyboard is by SteelSeries as it is said in front of the keyboard, and I've gotta say there's really that "click" feeling that feels comfortable when the keys are pressed, especially for gaming. It also has a backlight, which can have up to 3 different colors in 3 different sections of the keyboard at once. But I don't know about the trackpad; it's a bit small and the button on it is a bit uncomfortable to use at times, and I wouldn't use it for gaming. I use a mouse often when gaming, though.

Overall looks:

This thing just looks great. It really has a good sleek design, and nice looking colors (mostly black) and patterns on the chassis, too. It also seems rather sturdy to me. Kinda thick (and the power brick is too, well sorta), but considering it's meant to be a gaming laptop and there's high performance parts in it, I suppose it's a fair thickness. Not much else to say about it.

Sound:

The sound that comes out of this thing is amazing too! I usually use a 3.5mm headset and listen to music and such usually, and I really like the sound quality. Can take a little bit of adjustment in some of the tools that come with the computer for sound, but once it's done right, it's just perfect. I haven't really played around with the external speakers, but the one time I tried those, it sounded pretty good for laptop speakers. There's also a line in and a speaker out (not headphones out) on this too, so if you do some sound work (maybe even studio work), this might not be all that bad of a laptop for you.

Oh, and the price is good for what I got; really met my expectations.

So, overall, this is a great laptop and would definitely recommend it.

I have bought this device several days ago and when I tested it, the first thing I mentioned was that

1. When you try to load it propose you to accept 2(!) license agreements with MS(R) and Symantec(R) without an options to decline both of them.

2. You can not load up from thumb-drive, despite this option is marked in setup.

After some careful reading I understood that UEFI of this device will not allow to load something that is not Windows(R), but despite switching to LEGACY mode does solve the last problem, thumb-drive still can not be used.

3. When I bought this laptop I also happened to buy the OEM version of some software on this machine. When I tried to call MSI, I got a response that I can not ask for refund, even if I am not going to use the software.

4. When I tried to install Linux on this laptop I realized that there is no driver for LAN of this "nice" device.

Summary.

I have no Idea, how this thing works in Windows world (in most cases problems with Linux drivers means that manufacturer don't care about users and use untrusted cheap hardware), but if you are not a Windows person, this device is not an option.

Honest reviews on MSI G Series GT60 2OC-024US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

So just ordered this pc the other day and I won't bother listing off hardware and all the other base info since that has already been mentioned and discussed.

But I would like to state that since I have received the laptop everything works well and I can play every game I have with smooth frame rates, in fact only issue I have when using the laptop is the windows 8 os which is a bit clunky. (os can be replaced and is based on preference so did not change overall value to me)

Really though the reason I took off a star is due to the quality of the laptop's frame, in that after getting it out of the box i noticed one of the clips holding the battery block in was a little loose and part of a bottom panel did not sit flush with the area around it.

So overall, this is a nice pc that will do what you need it to, but the actual construction of the item could be a bit better.

I was in the market for a replacement for my 10 year old desktop. After speaking with numerous I.T. friends of mine, the ASUS was highly recommended. I absolutely live this notebook. The 17.3 inch screen is great. The ease of use and simplistic design have made me happy. I have "pulled the plug" on the old desk top.

I was disappointed with notebook. It has issues with internet explorer. Keeps shutting down and reopening tabs after shutting down? Not happy with keys, they are so flat makes it hard to keep fingers on certain key, inturn I am hitting others.

Also hard to see function keys on bottom, they are black and you need a flashlight to read which ones have a blue lights.

I wouldn't buy another one.

With a shrinking number of ultrabooks with Windows 7 on them as shipped, this system offers a really good mix of hard-to-find features including VGA and HDMI port, an RJ45 network jack, and throw in a DVDRW drive and 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. The traditional hard drive with small SSD cache is a good compromise on a low-cost system. Very thin yet feels solid with aluminum casing. Really the only negatives are lack of backlit keyboard and trackpad a little tricky to get used to (left/right buttons are integrated into pad), and no recovery media and no way to make them, a poor trend for most vendors.

ASUS was recommended to me as a good brand, this seems to be the best 14" with Win 7, Amazon had the best price through another seller Technology Galaxy. However, return policy for TG is once the box is open it's yours, no exceptions, my bad for not reading the fine print. Right out of the box the cooling fan ran fast and loud, you could hear it in the next room. When typing in Word, email or in a web text box, the cursor would jump around causing you to manually set it back to the end of a sentence to continue typing. That's enough for me to return it, but as stated above, the return policy won't allow it. I spent hours with ASUS tech support via chat (tech support was good) to download a chipset to solve the cooling fan problem and some other software upgrade to stop the cursor jumping. Fan is solved, it runs quiet now, the cursor is still problematic, but we finally figured out how to disable the touchpad, the laptop is primarily used with a mouse. Another review talked about the touchpad being the deal killer too, take note. Other than that, the unit works fine (now) for word processing, web surfing, and some simple psychology testing software. If you want to buy this brand/model, go find one that you can demo before you commit. Buy direct from Amazon so you can return it if you don't like it. Beware of sellers selling through Amazon, they might not let you return it if you open the box.

I chose this laptop primary because it had a very fast processor and it was a Windows 7 instead of the new Windows 8. It was actually a little more expensive than Win 8, but I heard Win 8 has problems. I still prefer a full size keyboard, because I like to type fast. The keyboard on this laptop is too small and very flat. It is difficult to use and the pad is inaccurate. I spend quite a bit of type with the pad to try and move the cursor around. The mouse works a little better than the pad. The keyboard also has options that let you use certain keys for other functions. It is these extra things that make for a bad experience. Besides being hard to type, there are regular problems, where the cursor just flies all over the place when you are trying to type. The way the keyboard ends up working is more akin to a cell phone than a computer. It is just very frustrating to use. Start up to my surprise is very slow. It takes about 20-30 seconds to start. The internet connection was flawless and has worked very well. The area surrounding the keyboard and pad is a very nice aluminum finish. The rest of the computer feels and looks cheap. It is very light plastic and there are places where the plastic finish is pretty rough. The screen is pretty good, it works well even strong lighting conditions and even when it faces the window. I don't know why it got such high ratings. With the exception of the aluminum finish and the screen, it is very average and substandard in some instances.

this was by far the easiest setup of my 10? laptops -based on reviews i read here i chose this model (with win 7) over a new vaio with win 8 (my last 5 computers have all been vaios) -seamless, fast setup, speedy, lots of RAM -only caveat is no numeric keypad but i only used it to type accents, so --

downloaded browsers, software, printer drivers & updated versions of this n' that -no problem whatsoever. so far so good -it's only tweaking & transferring files now -from the previous laptop whose touchpad i drowned --
