WIndows 8 was probably designed to compete with tablets but on a laptop it cumbersome and always in the way. Everything is hard to locate especially if you're more than a casual user of a PC.

I only purchased this a week ago, but I find this an amazing piece of machinery. I am astounded how fast the internet is on this and I like Google Chrome. I switched over from IE because I was getting tired of the constant error messages and having it close all the time. I'm glad I did, it's easier to use and very stable. I have an Acer Netbook from two years ago that is great, but slowing down even with 2 GB of Ram. I decided to use that as my "Windows" laptop and use this Chromebook for web-surfing. I even use the trackpad because it is the best I have ever used. It works perfectly, and I have come across some really bad trackpads in my day. I know that this is not for everyone but if you have a main desktop or laptop and want a supplemental computer for really fast web-surfing, this is the way to go. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this as an extra computer to have around the house. The biggest weakness is the inability to print unless your using a google cloudprint enabled printer. If you want to have an extra computer for the kids or guests to use, one that can't get messed up (no viruses, no settings to change), and you only want to spend $200 this is a good product.

I bought this as a side machine to be an in-between for my heavy IBM laptop, and my iOS iPad. I have always loved the Chrome browser (have used since day 1,) so this seemed a logical choice. And the fact that I could play my facebook Flash games on it (can't do that on ipad!) I got this from a groupon, so I didn't pay $200 for it. But after having it a week, I would have. It is a great toy.

Pros:

Super lightweight

The apps for it are free!

Super super quiet

Doesn't burn my lap like my laptop does (runs very cool.)

Has a nice soft-touch keyboard

Has a great trackpad which doesn't have breakable keys on it

Has a hi-def screen

Plays flash animations

Can connect to my iCloud, Google drive, and Amazon kindle library (with free app downloads.)

Saves documents, etc. to Google cloud drive so I can grab them on my normal computer as well

Has memory card reader and USB ports

Has a camera for web chatting

Cons:

Battery life averages about an hour, which can be a hassle

Some newer flash items won't load and it says the flash player is outdated, but Chrome insists it's up-to-date and you can't manually update it

Can't use the machine unless you're on the Internet via wifi or LAN

You have to tap with two fingers on the trackpad to do a mouse right-click

Sound isn't fantastic

Has camera but can't Skype. My family doesn't use Google Hangouts to chat

There are great apps, but not as many as I'd hoped. I'm sure this will change in time.

Honestly, the cons may seem big but they're far outweighed by the awesomeness of the pros. Especially Flash. As an iPhone and iPad user, I have missed flash greatly on my portables. This is a great feature and was really the selling point (and the price.)

Purchased because I wanted a second machine for checking email and browsing youtube. Works great, super fast, tried to install Ubuntu but for some reason the internet would not work =(. However I will not hold that against it.

I do love how light it is, it runs quiet, and starts from a cold boot in about 25 seconds (I'm not kidding), screen color is vivid and video play back (@720P res..) is flawless.

These are limitations of the machine, not downsides!

Battery life is short, not suprising in something this light.

O.S. use is limited offline (Well.. lets be honest, its useless w/o an internet connection!)

SO... If you just need a fast little machine that does about what a tablet does, you'll probably like this.

IF you're one of those special people that can't read the description and think you're getting a full blown laptop, you're probably going to be disapointed.

I think for the price, this is a very good deal. I got my Chromebook because my Kindle Fire 8.9 is constantly crashing on me when I'm on the internet, in spite of my very good to excellent internet connection. I constantly get the "silk is not responding" signal and the screen freezes too frequently. I get lines showing up, it's frustrating. The video streaming on my Kindle is often blurry, it stops too often during the time I'm watching something. The Chromebook connects to my wifi internet, the only connection I have. I have not been able upload pictures from my camera. Maybe there is an app for that. Almost everything works through apps, the essential ones are completely free, so it may be more appropriate to call this "App Book".

That is why I got my Chromebook. It's cheaper, works well with all the features and apps turned on. Truth to tell, I didn't know that it was the Kindle and not me or the internet connection that was the root of the problem until I got my Chromebook. For general internet use this is the best bargain you can get. It's not a magic box so if you are looking for some serious use, I'm afraid you have to dish out some more money. This Chromebook is perfect for leisurely use and its appropriate for people to know that. It deserves the praise its worth.

The Google Chromebook gets me on the internet fast, it doesn't crash, but even though I don't like the format and bulkyness of the Chromebook as much as my slender Kindle, when I watch movies, I do get a clear picture. I've had it for about 3 weeks, it takes a little time to learn to navigate the Google Chrome but once you got a hang of it its easy to navigate. Google Chrome offers movies, music and app just like Amazon Kindle so i feel I may be as well off with Google Chromebook. At this price level the Google Chromebook is not a touch screen. What is important, GOOGLE CHROMEBOOK WORKS AS IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO.

As a person who is still on a budget because of the economy, this was a suitable option and price range for my purpose. Of course the battery is useless, i knew it would be, but I'll just replace it when i can. Mine came with windows vista business, so long as it had windows i was happy.

This product is working fine so far, it's an older model so it may need to have some newer drivers installed to operate the new plug and play products like optical mouses, but but my printer booted up fine with no driver disk needed.

The seller answered my questions promptly, i would purchase from this seller again.

Preface This weighs about 6 1/3 pounds or so Not 11 Pounds as Amazon Has Erroneously Noted. To be honest, I never intended to spend this amount on a laptop but I am very very happy with this. What happened to me was, I originally bought a refurbished Toshiba A105 Satellite 1.66 Core 2 Duo, XP, from a very good computer seller for $799 before tax & really liked it but there were major problems with the Hard Drive which was all screwed up. I thus returned the A105 and then bought the brand new faster Tecra A8-S8513, mainly because it has XP and I didn't want to deal with Vista. I also upgraded the RAM from 1GB to 2.5 GB. All told I spent $500 plus more then the $799 I originally budgeted for because I had to use the stores credit on the refurbished notebook with problems & wanted a New Core 2 Duo with XP. The good news is I'm very happy with this as its very fast, super sturdy & built like a tank, the sound of the fan & hard drive is the lowest I've ever heard on a laptop (the refurbished A105 was way too loud), works great with the built in wireless card, is very easy to use, is relatively

light at 6oz or so. So what I'm trying to say is, if you have the money for this & want a laptop with XP, buy it and add another gig of RAM to it & you'll be very happy. My only negative is that the USB ports are in the back instead of the side like the A-105.

Bought it for a friend (with her money). She's had it exactly 2 years now and nothing major to report. Software got cluttered, but I sorted that by removing some unnecessary startups and reloaded the problem apps. Then it was soaring again.

Lately though she said it freezes occasionally. Don't know what's wrong yet.

I bought this laptop. Before, I was running on a dell laptop that I got back in either '05 or '06 when I was getting ready to go to college....within a year and half my dell had to be kept plugged into the power outlet since the battery wouldn't get or keep too long of a charge (usually just enough time to print a document, then back on the charger it had to go). My dell also kept freezing, blue screen of death, overheated (would leave imprints on my thighs it got so hot), and programs would keep crashing for no reason. I had finally had enough and decided to buy a new laptop. My good friend has a toshiba mini and she loves it, so I figured I'd buy a toshiba this time around and see how it went.

Oh my gods, I love my laptop!!! While shockwave flash keeps crashing for no reason (in Chrome, at any rate) and it takes too long to switch between farms if I decide to play farmville on here the rest of it runs like a charm. I've only had a couple of issues with it so far, but both problems were able to be fixed and didn't impact anything of importance. While the laptop gets a little warm on the bottom, it isn't unbearable (dell would practically scorch me shortly after it was turned on). This is a very nice laptop and only took me a few days to get used to the new format and keys (slightly different layout/size compared to the dell). My only regret is that I didn't buy a replacement laptop sooner--or that I didn't start off with a Toshiba sooner. this will definitely be a brand that I stick with for future laptop purchases.

This laptop is amazingly beautiful. It's my second Asus and I only had to buy this because I had to give my older one to my wife. The sound is incredible with its sonic master bundle. Although it is an entertaintment notebook, it's capable of playing many of the hard games and actually it's a pleasure to play on this laptop with its sonic master. You can watch blue ray movies in full resolution on its amazing screen even under sunlight. It appears Asus and B&O created a very good product. Highly reccomendable.

Pros:

-So far, the computer has kept pretty cool.

-The screen isn't extremely glossy. I wanted a matte screen, so I was a little nervous ordering this computer.

-Sound quality is excellent. Even the included subwoofer packs a punch.

-Everything runs nice and fast (I've watched DVDs, streamed shows, and played games. It's all great).

-Keyboard has several buttons that my previous computer didn't have (and it's super convenient!)

-It's a very aesthetically attractive computer.

Cons:

-You may have trouble with this computer if you have small hands.

-The finger pad (If that's what it's called...) isn't centered! That's taken some getting used to. Apparently, that's actually fairly common.

-Just like all computers I've seen, it comes with a bunch of junk that I've gone through and uninstalled.

-The subwoofer started having issues connecting to it's port the same day I got the computer.

Ultimately, the computer is a bargain! The hardware is great, the computer's build is attractive and structurally sound, and everything is running wonderfully.

**Introduction**

I was wary of buying this notebook because user reviews were sparse. I like to read complaints to get an idea of common issues. That said, I took a leap of faith and it turned out well.

I wanted a gaming laptop and was looking at higher priced models with dedicated/high performing graphics cards. This laptop has neither, but for the price and features, I don't feel bad about the compromise. (The GPU isn't shabby, but you won't be able to play some games on ultra high settings.)

Another reviewer detailed the specs, so I'll just mention my initial impressions.

**The Good**

I was checking out the Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7384 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop Fusion X2 Finish in Red Horizon, and compared to that beast, my ASUS is the prom queen. (It also offers a native resolution of 1980 x 1080p vs. 1900 x 600p for the Qosmio, but the Qosmio has a 7200rpm hdd vs. the 5400rpm hdd on the ASUS). The AC adapter is the size of a brick.

The nicest surprise was the incredible sound. An external subwoofer is included with your purchase; coupled with the Bang and Olufson speakers, the sound is better than my Samsung HDTV's.

The picture is crisp with a sweet 1080p resolution. No lackluster reds, good viewing angles, and fairly clean under a glare. Enjoy watching those 3D Blu-Rays (and burning regular BD's too).

It stays a lot cooler than my Lennovo Thinkpad while running TF2 for hours.

**The Bad**

The nastiest surprise was the amount of bloatware that came pre-installed. Google "ASUS Bloatware" and find the comprehensive forum post that details what programs you can safely uninstall. (Note: ASUS will force you to install the Bing toolbar before using the computer, but it is easily removed with CCleaner, PC Decrapifier etc. Don't remove the ATK package or Lifeframe, despite what the forums say.)

The power cord jack is going to spell trouble for some people. Be careful pulling the cord out of the computer, or you might damage it.

If you use the Cyberlink burner, the only way to get rid of the widget that appears is to end the Power2Go process. I don't appreciate having to take that step to close something I don't want to see.

**The Grey**

The keyboard is wide. This is not bad, but it takes some getting used to. If you ever took piano lessons and learned to stretch your fingers to hit the keys, it is a mildly similar feeling.

The touchpad is fairly sensitive. Also not bad, just takes some getting used to.

MS Office (Home) 2010 is pre-loaded. I went to Amazon to purchase the keycard, and was annoyed to find that they snail mail a paper keycard. I'm sure there is a "security" related justification for this, but not having electronic delivery as an option is painfully dumb.

**Final Thoughts**

Thus far I am satisfied with my purchase, minus the wireless card issue that I am keeping an eye on. Unless you are shipped a lemon, I think you will be satisfied too. I notice that Amazon jacked the price up from $1100 to over $1233 today... sucks. But I still think it's worth it at that price.

Ive been contemplating so many different laptops lately. This one caught my eye. & Ive researched this particular laptop a lot. It actually has 4 cores. A great video card as well. I only wish that I could find a larger battery pack. I have this computer for just less than a month, so is not much I can say about it's reliability or some performance, but for this moment I love it: speed, keyboard, web cam, all auxiliary connection available .... But the only drawback I experience so far is sound, when you tune it all the way up, it is .... not great at all, and the "power" is a little bit lower than i was expected. But lets be serious, what can you expect from a build in speakers!?!?! If you really want to have a good sound, you should buy separate set of PC Speakers.

Today, I'd recommend this laptop to somebody else too.

We have owned this laptop just slightly over one year, the hard drive is fried. The Vaio laptop is inoperable. Sony will not offer to replace it with a refurbished model or try to repair it. It is no wonder we had to go to 3 different locations to find a store that was still open.

We have been faithful Sony customers, having purchased 2 home theater systems, a large LCD screen tv, and 3 computers, as well as countless other Sony products (including the original Sony "Discman." It's a shame to see what this company has become.

This is my ump-teenth Sony Vaio and I have loved them all. Not much left to say about laptops that has not already been said. Sony graphics are the best. This unit is lightweight and has a sleek design. If it is like my other Sonys, it will hold up for years to come.

For those of you interested in pure PC horsepower, look elsewhere. Sony laptops are for presentation and intense graphics and not for raw computing. I did load a SQL-Server 2008 app on this laptop and it performed fine, but most CPU intensive apps run a little slower on Sony than they do on Dell, HP and others.

First, please note that I'm reviewing the actual computer and not any vendor nor the manufacturer's customer service.

Thinkpads, generally in my experience have by far the best laptop keyboards I've used. This is my fifth (at least) Thinkpad and my second X series (previous was X60). I have found them all to be remarkably reliable with excellent ergonomics. I especially love small touches, like the little mouse in the center of the keyboard (looks like a pencil eraser). Thinkpad seems to have the only truly effective implementation compared to other I've tried such as Toshiba. Also 3 USB ports. Nice. VERY lightweight, speedy enough. I LIKE that they did not put a cd/dvd drive in this unit. I'd rather use external given how infrequently I need it. X200 has built-in camera I still have not figured out how to turn it off so careful with your attire while surfing Facebook y'all!

So I am thrilled with this unit, loved my X60 for the 2+ years that I had it, and the T series before that. These things seem designed for "road warriors" like me.

Also be sure to get the small travelers A/C adaptor that Lenovo sells for these. I think I paid $35 for mine. Nice.

I have the x200 with extended life battery and 2.4 ghz processor widows 7. This is an amzing little machine. It's built like a tank, and the battery life is incredible. I get about 10 hours!! IBM/Lenovo has been building workhorses for business use for years. They know what they are doing.

The other two reviews that gave it a low rating had nothing to do with the laptop. It was their experiences that were the issue not the laptop itself. If you turned down this laptop based on those reviews you would be missing out on a very nice machine.

This is an excellent laptop and I highly recommend it. I've had mine for a couple of years now and have never had a problem with it. I have upgraded to Win7 since then and have a total of 4GB RAM (which is the max for this laptop hardware wise).

I am in IT field and need a reliable, ultra-portable laptop that has plenty of 'horse-power' to run several applications that I rely on. The X200 fits that perfectly.

I am fairly rough on my laptop and yet it still runs without a problem.

Pros: Light-weight, portable, great battery life, reliable, nice features (roll cage to protect against bumps, spill-resistant keyboard), price is just right, Lenovo's website for downloads (drivers and software) is always up to date

Cons: The finish on the top of it is not that durable. The lid on mine got scratched up a little bit. I ended up buying a 'skin' to go on the top of it to hide the scuff marks.

I didn't get my X200 off of Amazon, but rather got it used a couple of months ago... mine's sitting around the same specifications, though.

I've used ThinkPads for the past six years and I'm leaning towards saying that my X200 is probably the best notebook I've ever used, ThinkPad or not. The build quality is excellent and the system feels very durable. It's quite lightweight, although I'm only getting about four hours of life out of a 6-cell battery. The power is definitely there as well... I'm starting to learn 3D modeling apps using Poser 7, and so far this machine has done all my renders quickly. I can also run some light games on here, as well.

Ergonomically it's a great system as well... it's got a full-sized keyboard, and the WXGA resolution is a great upgrade from the previous X60/X61. Typing and other keyboard work for long stretches is a breeze, although my hands do feel a little cramped from the short palmrest. The X200 also runs very cool... it's a notebook you can actually use on your lap, if so inclined.

If you've been looking at netbooks and like the size and weight, but wanted something with more guts, this might be a great machine for you. With prices on these dropping a bit since the release of the X201, it's a good time to pick up a great notebook for a great price.

These Thinkpads are the Best They have the look and Feel of High Quality!

I have a SL410 but Amazon no longer sells it, so writing this here.

Bought a Toshiba laptop weeks ago then returned it. It was OK but it looked and felt cheap with the very high gloss surface had to constantly wipe it down. The thinkpads have a matte finish, much better.

Also the Toshiba Laptop had these annoying popup windows that would appear reminding me to upgrade and buy software.

The touch pad is great very accurate, also much better then my toshiba.

Only had mine a few a couple weeks and am impressed overall.

I've been a electronics tech for 20 years and a IT degree, I can say these are made very well. The connectors and interface are well designed. Just wish mine was a little lighter the 410 is about 5lbs.

I am forced to use this computer for work. For my personal laptop, I have a Thinkpad T520 (15.6" screen). I think you can tell how this review is going to go...

In short, I loathe this computer. A significant part of my animosity stems from two things: 1) lots of other employees received thinkpads; 2) HP elitebooks receive universally good reviews. Enough to make me think something fishy is going on...(or these corporate drones really are more gullible than people give them credit) And so, dear readers, it is up to Mavericks(TM) such as myself to reveal the truth---these so-called "ultra portable" business notebooks suck.

Apparently, HP's idea of "ultra portability" means shrinking down the screen and the keyboard until it's practically unusable (missing keys!), while maintaining bulk. This thing is bloody thick for such a tiny computer. Some versions---mine included, I discovered to my unending dismay---don't even have an optical drive. I think it has 2 USB drives, located (unergonomically!) in the back, right next to where the giant battery juts awkwardly out.

Furthermore, you'd think the promise of "ultra portability" would include silence. Wrong. This laptop is loud, whirring and groaning in protest if I dare to run more than 3 applications simultaneously. I mean, what do you expect corporate drones to do with a business laptop? Surf the internet in a text-based browser??

And the one thing that's really bothered me: how much other reviewers heap praise on this piece of crap for being "fast," having great specs! But if you look at the specs, you'll see that they're merely decent. Nothing to write home about. Until you look at the accompanying price, and then the absurdity hits you! WTF, how do these people get away with charging so much money for this tiny mediocre piece of hardware?? I mean, have we descended to the abysmal ranks of Apple fanbois??

Other things that annoy me: stupid touchpad. I don't know what's wrong with it. The two-finger gestures or whatever is horribly broken. It's slow compared to my mouse. Computer is heavy for its size. Loaded with HP crapware (although I suppose that's to be expected with any laptop these days). Wifi button: I don't know if it's JUST ME, but I've had the immense displeasure of using two of these things within the past few months, and the wireless button on BOTH machines have crapped out on me. Unhappy coincidence??

tl;dr

If you're looking for a good business laptop, look elsewhere!! Don't believe the insulting, hyperbolic praise this product has received on other sites. You can find better hardware for a better price. Also, the promise of "ultra portability" is an egregious lie.

This is a piece of junk. I can;t imagine how HP can still make laptop like this and manage to sell, in 2012. You can almost say there as been zero innovation in this laptop since 2002 or so. I didn't buy this, got as my work computer from office. I am now forced to write the review give how bad is this laptop. In less than 2 months the battery is almost falling off!!. I have an extended battery and the battery lock is so poorly done and quality is so flimsy. Also, the laptop is really fat, unlike what you can see in the pictures. The Compaq laptop I got in 2001 was thinner than this and this was supposed to be HP's business class travel friendly laptop. What a shame to HP's design. Do yourself a favor by not buying this junk.

With the kids all grown and having their own laptops, I decided it was time to get my own. During the black friday sale I stumbled across this laptop. It was perfect for what I wanted. The color is beautiful(Glossy Brown) as well as a keyboard which is so comfortably laid out that I glide across. Windows 8 may be difficult for those accustomed to Windows 7 but to me this is an perfect operating system. The Start screen layout is both stylish and user friendly, I'm learning pretty fast. You can view mail, share pics, and talk to friends with the click of a button. For those who are accustom to windows 7's desktop, you can easily click to the desktop from the start screen and do everything that you normally do. Even though it doesn't have an start button, the start screen is much faster and easier to use.

Overall, this laptop is great, boots up quickly (30 seconds) and I fully recommend it!

I have had this laptop for a little over a year now and still LOVE it. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I love the look of it too. The sound is great. I am very picky about the touch of a keyboard. Some laptop keyboards have very flat keys. This one has a great feel to it. The company I work for only uses Lenovo at all of our properties across the country. My last two computers were HP's and I had nothing but problems with them. I think I will stick with Lenovo.

I am very unsatified with this laptop.It still has a old video card in it you cant play screensavers or games also you cant play DVD movies because the software is incompatible. This was a Christmas gift for my wife now im going to have to send it back or spend more money just so she can use it.Why would someone sell something that some cant use when thay get it!!!

First thing I want to write is that it was amazing to see that it took 13 seconds to get to the home screen or whatever screen they call it in windows 8. That was just impressive. I have own an ASUS laptop before and the touchpad was fairly good but something was missing, I was making too many errors while typing. Hp has done a brilliant job in keyboard placing at least that's what I think. similarly the touchpad feels great, it is not a plain surface, you feel some resistance while moving the hand around it and it feels good, feels I have more control over the touchpad. May not feel much of an important thing but with Windows 8 trust me, you are going to love that.

On the bad side, you can easily see fingerprints on it which is kind of distracting in my case, thinking to buy a cool laptop skin to solve that problem. F5 button is constantly on, which i thought was not necessary before but in the dark you know exactly where to press to turn on the backlit and dont have to try to guess where is Fn button and F5. So i don't have problem with F5 lighting up anymore, trying to getting used to that.

Bottom-line for less than $800 this machine is just perfect for someone like me who wants to get latest in the technology, both flash memory to boot up way faster (Ultrabook thing)and Windows 8,btw i want to comment on windows8, if you have had a windows phone before it should not be much of a problem to get used to it and for the rest, people are buying apple computers for the first time and trying to learn how to use it, trust me it wont be half of that trouble to get used to windows 8, its time to evolve to next generation anyway:)

HP's Sleekbooks are very handsome devices. They feature top-shelf materials, and the fit and finish is impeccable. Should any of this matter to a laptop buyer? Perhaps not, but when so many machines look alike, it's nice to walk into a meeting (or the corner coffee shop) and draw admiring looks from people when you take your Sleekbook out of your bag. Yes, it's that good looking.

In terms of performance, it's really hard to assess how fast a machine is from raw product specifications. The HP Envy 4-1100us features the newest Intel processor, 4Gb of RAM, a 500Gb hard drive, and a 14-inch screen driven by an onboard Intel graphics processor. It also comes with Windows 8 built-in, which is a very attractive feature for those of us who hate the gotchas and glitches that invariably occur during OS upgrades.

These are not knockout specs, but they're quite good at this price level. In my real-world performance tests (Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, various business tools, ITunes, etc.), I found the HP Envy to be plenty fast, and exceptionally quiet. (The RAM and hard drives can be upgraded, so if you seek lightning-fast performance, it can be attained if you desire.)

The battery life is exceptional I can work all day at the office or in a coffee shop without plugging in. That's pretty amazing battery performance considering the light weight of this machine.

So for those looking for a very sleek, um, Sleekbook at a very affordable price, I'm not sure you can do better than this machine.

First, let me say WOW to the backlit keyboard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and frankly, think all keyboards should be standard backlit. I do a lot of late-nite web surfing and it was always so troublesome. The keys are 'chicklet' in style and respond easily and quickly to your touch. You can, if you don't want to use the backlit feature, simply hit F5 and it turns it off.

The laptop itself for only 4 gb of ram is pretty responsive it boots FAST and even after its asleep up and going in less than 20 seconds. It feels well made and even though only 14", does not feel cramped or uncomfortable.

Now for the bad: I had read quite a few reviews on Windows 8 some good, some bad, some so/so. Seeing all those ads on TV, I thought, what could be so bad? First, its much too confusing and I'm pretty computer literate. Too much crap that just isn't needed. If I want an ebay "app" or icon on my computer, I'll download and put it there myself. Same with all the other "junk" that comes on it. Second, its much too sensitive. I will be in an email typing away and next thing I know POOF its disappeared and I have a million tiny icons on my screen sure you just put your cursor to the left corner and you can get back to where you want to go but it should not be that touchy feely sensitive. Or you hit a key and you're in somewhere you have no clue why you're there, how you got there, why its even there. Windows 8 takes up a LOT of space. It does have a few nice keyboard shortcuts (once you figure them out) but frankly, if I could put Windows 7 on this it would be PERFECT.

Windows 8 is also not 100% compatible with all your other programs and hardware. For example, my Apple shuffle Windows 8 doesn't even recognize, can't find it and iTunes doesn't see it either on Windows 8. I have now found numerous other websites reporting this same issue so if you are an iPhone or iPod or iPad user BEWARE of Windows 8.

I would have given this 5 stars but for Windows 8. For me it just isn't what its all (excuse me a moment as I find my way back to this review after hitting some random key by mistake).....where was I? Oh yes, Windows 8 just isn't all that much too sensitive and easy to get "lost" and just not compatible with all software/hardware.

***I got my new laptop from Amazon and have had a few weeks to play with it. I definitely had a dud before! This one connects great to my internet, doesn't lag or hang up on sites like the other one did. I officially love this little laptop! The battery life is unbelievable, it's so light and portable, the picture is great, love the backlit keyboard,how cool it stays even after a few hours of running, there isn't anything I wouldn't rave about to my friends about this computer. I still haven't messed with windows 8. I just click on desktop and it is just like using Windows 7 in my opinion. I still get excited that I own something I love when I pick it up to use it, especially after having one that was so bulky and had to be plugged in or it would die quickly. And you push the power button and can be online surfing the internet in under a minute! Even my husband watched me looking up recipes, arranging the shopping list, etc for a few hours online, not plugged in, and still had over half the battery left and said he wants one for himself now lol. Changing my rating from 2 to 5 stars because as a person who just uses a computer to surf the internet, play some online games, listen to music and charge my ipod, load and edit pictures from my camera, etc (basic every day stuff, no hard core gaming or any serious business), this computer is absolutely perfect and I couldn't ask for anything else from it. Hope it keeps working for years to come so I don't have to research and find something this good again!***

First I have to say, I love this ultrabook. I don't even mind Windows 8. Took a little getting used to, a few google searches to find out how to find things I was looking for, but things change, you adapt and move on. I don't use any of the apps, personally. I just click on desktop and do everything just as if I was using my windows 7 laptop. Maybe someday I will play around with it and see if I find them useful. I heard horror stories about Windows 8 and was terrified, but it's not bad in my opinion. The laptop itself is EXTREMELY lightweight. I love it! I have a HP DV-7 and it's a beast to carry around, this I can easily hold in one hand. I love the back lit keyboard, I shut it off when I am in the light, push one button to turn it on when I am in the dark, I don't even know how I lived without this feature before! The screen is nice and bright, colors look good, picture is very clear, and 14" was definitely the size I wanted (I wavered between 14 and 15.6). I, personally don't get the whole "beats" audio thing. They sound like generic computer speakers to me. Zero bass, even when adjusted. It was nothing special. Only difference I noticed was I could turn it up all the way without distortion, where my DV-7 would get kind of gurgled at the top volume. I love the volume buttons right up top, along with a mute button, makes it easy to do the things I want to do, with or without sound and change between the two quickly. I have no problems with the track pad, though I admit to using a corded mouse because I am not big on track pads to begin with. I like that a simple double click in the upper left corner shuts it off and has a little red light to indicate it's off. I read some reviews about having to pound on the keys, and this is definitely not true for the one I have. I can type easily and swiftly without any problems. The matte cover is a little annoying because of finger prints, but that would be a silly deciding factor or reason to lower the rating. And I would have probably rated it a full 5 stars for pretty much being everything I wanted EXCEPT, I'm returning mine today after less than a month. The internet barely works. I try to open a site and about 80% of the time or more, it just freezes and is "thinking" and never opens the page. We have other devices that use our home network with no problems, including another HP laptop, so it's not my internet. I tried to see if it was something I could live with, or maybe even improved with updates and I can't and it didn't. I did some searching and didn't really see everyone complaining of this problem, so I am hoping that I just got a slightly defective computer. A computer is pretty pointless if you can't surf the internet. Amazon is sending me a new one, and I will update my rating and this review when I get it and play with it a bit!

It is super pretty and light weight. It is quite fast! I love it very much. The sound effect is also wonderful. The windows 8 system is a bit challenging yet thrilling to use.
