Considering this is a gaming laptop that is almost 3 grand, it should have a 680m at least, not a 670mx. I understand that a lot of the price comes from the CPU, but considering the target demographic(gamers), it is a waste of an upgrade. A weaker CPU, and better GPU would be a better choice. Also, for this price you could get dual GPUs in SLi or CrossfireX in a laptop.

I read the reviews others have left for this model and I felt compelled to come to it's rescue. I didn't buy this netbook from Amazon. I got on sale from a major retail store. The reason I purchased The Aspire One is because my aged Eee PC 900 Linux has seen better days. I happened upon the AO756-2840 while browsing the computer section of a store and the price was good and being familiar with Acer products I jumped on it. When I got home I looked up some reviews for the 2840 in particular and found that besides Acer's website the only other place I found any were here. Acer's website had glorious reviews (of course). The reviews here weren't so hot. My heart sank. I decided to try the machine and form my own opinion. (Not to toot my own horn but I've been building and using PC's both as an enthusiast and professionally over the past 27 years. So I do possess a little technical knowledge when it comes to these matters.) From a hardware standpoint what you get for your money is far worth it. A 64 bit dual core processor running at 1100Mhz, 2 GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Intel HD graphics, etc.. You can see the specs above. On further investigation I found via using SiSoft SANDRA that the machine does in fact have 128 MB of dedicated video memory. This is not found in the specs. That brightened my day a bit. I should also mention that the 2840 has UEFI. The machine I purchased came with Windows 8. To my surprise there wasn't a whole lot of bloat-ware installed as I've experienced with other products. This was my first experience with Windows 8. And I have to say I do not like it. Thus the 4 stars. The dumbed down "Apps" page gets in my way and does not always find what I look for when using it's "search" function. Windows 8 and it's apps seem to me as those made for mobile devices such a tablets or smartphones (Android-like.). Also Windows 8 does not include a mail reader that supports POP mail. I found this to be a major put-off. I wound up installing Thunderbird, which I use on my desktop PC anyways. I also wound up installing a third party application to make Windows 8 behave like Windows 7 with it's Start button and menu. This provides me with a much friendlier user interface and something that I am more accustomed to. (I use GNU/Linux as my main OS and Win 7 for gaming.) I've run the machine through it's paces and I've found that for a netbook with low specs it performs better than I had hoped. Once the machine has booted it's pretty perky and opening applications doesn't take long at all. In all fairness for the given hardware this thing performs much better than I anticipated. You can multi-task and an acceptable rate of performance in my opinion. I should also mention that I was able to get 5 hours of battery life without forgoing anything. Buyers just need to be aware that this is a "NETBOOK" it's not a laptop and it's not going to perform like one. But it does do what it's designed for very well. You can surf the web, read and write email, write documents and presentations, do some light gaming on a machine that comes in a pretty small package. I should also mention that the 2840 has approximately the same specs as the 2626 (Except that the latter comes with 4GB RAM.) and has much better reviews. (The 2840 probably hasn't been purchased and fairly evaluated by Amazon customers due to the reviews it has received.)

I've been using the AO756-2840 for about a week now. I had intended to wipe the hard drive and install GNU/Linux but being that it does what I want I'll leave it as is. I really enjoy this little machine!!

(BTW.. I've tested this machine with various Debian GNU/Linux distributions and everything works fine right out of the box. If you choose to venture that way make sure that the distro you choose supports UEFI!)

In my humble opinion the AO756-2840 is a good product and a good value. Again I'll mention I gave it 4 stars because Windows 8 UI and Mail are lacking. Hardware-wise I would give it 5. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model to a friend or anyone looking for an inexpensive netbook at a decent price.

Well for $300 I wasn't expecting much, but it does the job. It's great for just browsing the web and watching youtube or netflix. It lasts a modest 3 hours on battery.

Pros: Has 2GB ram, while most other netbooks come with 1GB. Decent sized harddrive, and comes with Windows 8.

Cons: The Celeron processor is a little on the slow side if you try to do a few things at once.

This net book is pretty nice. I really like the track pad and the screen is sharp and colorful. I got this to replace my gateway that died, and I didn't have enough money to get another, so I got this and I couldn't be happier.

Honest reviews on ACER AO756-2840 11.6" Intel Celeron Processor 847 2GB DDR3 Ram

Let me start off by saying that I had high hopes for this little machine. I understood from the beginning that the computer's specs reflect the cost, so I expected there to be some quirks. This is my first Windows 8 machine, so there was a slight learning curve but I had it down in under a day. Aside from the awkward setup that Windows 8 is based on, this machine is SLOW, WEAK and DIES quickly. This Acer Aspire One wishes it could hang, but it just cant. Even simple tasks can make this computer freeze up, resulting in lost time. When this computer gets overwhelmed and has a fit, you are not getting anything else done for at least 10-20 minutes. Depending on the amount of work you were attempting to accomplish, the machine might even restart itself on it's lovely 12 minute restart cycle. I mean that too! This thing just sits and sits, never giving a consistent restart time. Even with the machine working flawlessly, my internet will just drop out and that's it. Sometimes it will automatically reconnect itself, but mostly I end up having to restart the machine. A return wasn't an option, so I headed down to the nearest Wal-Mart that carried this model on display. I brought my cord with me and managed to find a plug and fired the display unit up. Someone had already set it up, so I was good to play around and see if my computers experience was anything realistic. Sure enough, not even a few minutes into me testing my personal scenarios the machine locked up. This time, not even long presses of the power button could get it to restart. I couldn't take the battery out of the display unit, so I abandoned my mission feeling like this Acer Aspire One is really just a POS that I happened to buy. For the money, it's just not worth it. I had a smaller, Atom powered, Windows 7 netbook that out performed this Windows 8 machine all day long. I just needed something more and thought the Acer would have provided that. People, don't end up like me with an Expensive Paperweight that will sit on craiglist until the end of days... Stay away, trust me.

Note: This review started out as a 3-star review. In my final update, I explain why it graduated to a 5-star review.

I wanted a new computer with Windows 7 but none could be found, so I settled for this one. I like the looks of it and the weight, but I have zero interest in using Microsoft's tile desktop. To avoid it, all you have to do is hit the Windows button on the keyboard and you'll have what looks pretty much like a Windows 7 desktop. That increased my comfort level considerably.

However, the touch pad has a mind of its own. When typing, I must be swiping the touch pad because windows keep re-sizing themselves. Very frustrating. Speaking of sizing, I don't know whose eyes can see the default font size. I just know for sure it's not my eyes. I've had to go through all my bookmarks, boosting the display to 120% or 133%.

Scrolling is a real pain. I intend to look for instructions on how to use the touch pad with more skill. Everything I've done so far is just following all my learned habits with touch pads, which I've been using exclusively for many years. This touch pad is like nothing I've ever used before. In addition to the scrolling headache, just plain clicking is different. You have to be in the upper center part of the touch pad for the computer to respond.

And now about the "night shift" lighting on the keyboard: It would be fine if I could turn off the lights when I don't want them. They're extremely distracting during daylight. When the room goes dark, the keyboard is great. A nice improvement. But during daylight, the lights that go around the keys are parallel lines of bright lights that glare and distract. The lighting has zero benefit, and a considerable dis-benefit. As I get into the documentation that came with the computer, I may find they can be turned off. If so, I'll update this review. The lights would be fine if you're sitting right above the keyboard and looking down, but I surf in the comfort of a recliner, so the laptop is in my lap and at an angle so I'm looking right at the lines of light, three per key along the under side of the keys.

It's also more than a little maddening to try to find all the familiar settings so easily available in Windows 7. I've been able to do much of what I wanted to accomplish when setting defaults, but it was not without considerable effort -trial and error.

I thought the tiles (which I intend to never use) were supposed to be responsive to touch, but they aren't on my computer. Maybe I was just mistaken about the model (this one) I ordered.

I have ordered a keyboard skin from Sony that will probably cover the lights that are such a bother to me in a well-lighted room. If not, I'll also update the review to reflect that.

I give the OS one-star because it's cumbersome and unfamiliar -and I'm doubting I'll ever adapt to the touch pad. That drags down my overall rating to three stars. If this baby came with Windows 7, I'd be giving it four stars -knocking off that fifth star because of the way the keyboard lights look in daylight.

Update: I just played some videos and was very disappointed in the quality (or lack thereof) of the speakers. There's a hollowness to the sound that I do not like, and I doubt many people would.

Another Update: The lights on the keyboard can be turned off, but when you want them on again you have to go into your settings and reactivate them. It's not worth the trouble.

With zoom turned off on the touch pad, I find the touch pad far more user friendly. My pages are no longer changing sizes without my intending to make that happen.

Scrolling problems I was having have been solved by simply using the arrow keys to zip through a page.

Something else that may be important to those considering buying this computer is that, according the Sony tech rep, this model does NOT have a touch screen. When ordering I assumed it did, but the lack of it doesn't matter to me. I'll never use the tile screen -but it may matter to someone else wanting to use the tiles on the Win8 desktop.

Now that I have things more under my control, I'm liking the computer enough to un-do my original three-star rating to now give this laptop 5 stars despite a few quibbles that remain (for example, the rather lousy speakers). And there's one big plus I learned today from a Sony tech rep: the letters on the keys will never wear off. As someone who wears letters off within six months of use, this is great news. The reason the keys won't wear off is because of how they're designed to let the light shine through. I had ordered a skin to prevent wear and the rep said it's still a good idea to use the skin to prevent damage to the keyboard from liquids. She said the lights will still shine through the skin.

Many thanks to the commenter who suggested I download the free Classic Shell program. It is far better than just hitting the Windows key as I suggested above.

One more thing: Every darn time you resume your computer after having closed the lid, you have to sign into your Microsoft account again and enter a password. The password cannot be saved to spare you the trouble of typing. If you don't have a Microsoft account, you must create one when first firing up the computer. (If you're more computer-savvy than I am, you can avoid that need to always type a password if you know how to set up a second account that has no password. Sony tech support walked me through that, but I lost the settings when I had to restore the computer to an earlier time and I didn't want to go thru multiple phone calls again to do it all over again. Why multiple? Because some Sony tech support reps say it can't be done; you have to call till you find one who admits it can be done and helps you do it.)

Another update: Sony's skin for this model's keyboard arrived today. For me, it's 25 bucks down the drain. The Sony tech rep was right: the light does shine through the skin, but in a hazy sort of way. But that's not my complaint. It formed a very small ridge at the bottom of the space bar and I did not like the way that felt each time I hit the space bar. I kept the skin on the keyboard less than five minutes. Its not working out is not a loss, other than money-wise, because I'm feeling quite comfortable with the lighted keyboard now that I've spent several days with it.

Final (I think) update: As is pointed out in another review, the wifi on this model is giving some people big problems. I experienced the same thing -getting kicked off the internet many times per day. I called Sony support several times and they tried lots of "fixes" that didn't fix the problem. I decided to try a different router and that made all the difference in the world. I bought a Medialink router here on Amazon. Now I always have four or five bars and I stay connected. But be aware that there are lots of people who haven't been able to get the problem resolved (as of 8-25-13) judging from all the complaints on Sony's website (linked to in the "warning" review on this page). What they describe is what I experienced until getting the Medialink router. However, if you want to use the laptop away from your router in other hot spots, you may be very disappointed in the wifi's speed, range, and/or ability to stay connected to the Internet. Many owners are hoping Sony will issue a fix for the problem, but so far the only solution I've found is the Medialink router. I never take my laptop away from home, so hot spot use isn't an issue for me.

The velocity of the WiFi is an issue. My five years Toshiba Satellite works better. It seems that above 100 ft. the signal is lost. I read similar complaints and chat support doesn't help. You can read other complaints in this site: http://community.sony.com/t5/VAIO-Hardware-Networking/VAIO-Fit-slow-wifi/td-p/143697.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO Fit Series SVF14214CXB 14-Inch Core i5 Laptop

It would be a great laptop if it would stay connected to wifi. After about 2 months I need to disconnect and reconnect after every time I open it, and about every 10-15 min. The laptop thinks it is connected to the internet but its really not, something to do with this model having faulty wireless cards. The only fix I've seen is to replace the card on your own dime.

On my hyper-expensive Sony Vaio fit running Windows 8, I get regular crashes I think associated with BlackBerry link. But a known problem since at least January 2013 is that the wifi is appallingly bad. It drops intermittently and fails all the time. Sony know this, but have failed to do anything about it just google sony vaio wifi fit problems for information...

The worst thing is that Sony have surrounded themselves with layer upon layer of "customer service" people who they have turned into terrible jobsworths with procedures and rules. They have multiple layers, long queues, they stick to the rules, they don't call back when they promise to do so.

Never, ever buy a Sony Vaio and if you do, make sure you get the onsite warranty, and a spare laptop for when it's away getting repaired..

I purchased this used computer for my daughter, so unfortunately I was not able to visually look at this product. For the MOST part, my daughter likes the overall look, however, we were NOT informed that the battery life was close to DEAD. When she charged it to it's full capacity, which was only about a quarter of the way, she noticed that is registered REPLACE BATTERY SOON! How's that for POOR ADVERTISEMENT.

This is the first time I've had any issues on purchasing a product from AMAZON. Needless to say, this won't stop me from doing business with AMAZON, but it will however, make me more cautious of where AMAZON picks it's products from.

The real product name of this laptop, as shown in BIOS and in Windows System Information, is Dell N5010. For its price, this is a good laptop, but it can also piss you off if you are peculiar about things:

1. For no reason at all, the fan will ramp up and whir every 2-3 minutes for about 20 seconds, even if there is no spike in CPU load. This can become really annoying in a quiet environment, such as a classroom or library. I've updated to the latest BIOS (A12), and the problem is still there. One possible way to fix this is using a tool called "i8kfangui", but installing it on Win7 requires some hackery (see the forums on its site).

2. For a 15.6" screen, the resolution is low: 1366x768. Business laptops have standard 1400x900 for 14" screens. I've had one for years and that resolution was great for the screen size. The screen is glossy and will reflect light. Outdoors, it's almost impossible to see anything, unless you hunch over the screen to shade it. POOR vertical viewing angles. 20 degree off the perpendicular direction to the screen, colors begin to shift visibly: whiteout if you look at the screen from above, darkened if you look from a bit below.

3. The keyboard can be really annoying:

silly reassignment of Fn keys to perform laptop-specific functions (volume up/down, Wi-Fi on/off etc.) instead of doing those by pressing Fn+F#. Configurable from the BIOS though.

besides that, the F# keys are labeled a faint blue on black, and are barely visible in a well-lit room. The reflection of the screen on the glossy laptop finish near the hinge doesn't help. The visible labeling is for the laptop function keys (Wi-fi on/off, brightness up/down etc.). This shows how the laptop is aimed at those who don't know what F5 does.

odd placement of the PrintScreen key between Insert and Delete

narrow trackpad buttons, often annoying to hit with the thumb

the arrow keys are too thin, half the height of normal keys

after having used laptops without a numeric keypad for the past few years, the keypad is not only useless; it gets in the way. where I expect Backspace to be, there's now Keypad Minus.

there is no Break key (useful for Win+Break to get the Windows System properties, or Ctrl+Break in command line applications)

there is no context menu key (equivalent to right click on the focused control)

So make sure these things don't bother you, or you'll hate the laptop. Try to get a feel for the keyboard and trackpad at a local store (Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Fry's etc.)

I bought this product, it is fast, however the support is horrible. The DVD player has never workers right freezes up even out of the box When I called dell, I got the run around and the long and short of it is that Dell doesn't stand behind their products. The Wi-fi is hit or miss, lucky it works well at home , but at work it doesn't connect and on public networks on the road it is hit or miss on getting a connection.

The unit is a bit of an energy hog, as the battery life doesn't last anything close to what Dell claims. Dell's answer was that I should buy the more expensive battery! The Battery lasts about an hour and a half, with all the power settings set to decrease energy use, and screen brightness turned down.

I would find another brand, Sad since otherwise it is a great computer.

This is an excellent netbook and I am very pleased with the overall look and performance! I like the overall design for starters. It was easy to use, had all the right features including decent resolution and sound, and it is so lightweight I wonder if it's in the carrier case sometimes. If you're a serious gamer this may not be for you; but if you mainly do social networking, music downloads, blogging, journaling and internet browsing this is a great choice. It was easy to watch movies on as well and mine came with Nook (amongst other things), which I have as yet to use. It also worked well with my paranormal investigation equipment and a programmer friend described it as a 'dream' to connect up to a network.I highly recommend this netbook.

I bought this amazing little computer for WiFi Internet use and for storing and playing back videos downloaded through the Amazon.com Unbox software. The display was great, and it played videos flawlessly; to me a miracle at the price point. Here I had everything my laptop has only without the DVD drive.

The problem is that the display developed a blue line down the middle that was there all the time. I researched and found that display problems seem to happen a lot with the Aspire One series of machines. Since I was within the return window, I deinstalled everything, wiped the data clean, and returned it. That was a lot of work for very little use. I'm thankful for the return policy, but not for all the wasted time commissioning and decommissioning this machine. It takes time to do that correctly.

I think Acer should have tested the display more before putting the machine into production. That said, I'm very open to buying a future version of this little miracle computer.

I actually really like this netbook. It's the perfect netbook for someone like me who just needs it to do some online bill pay, Facebook, and general web surfing. I am also using it to save pictures, and so far so good. If you are a student, or someone who will get more than 6+ hours a day out of it, then I would go for a higher model. But this Acer has really impressed me.

Bought this as a straight upgrade from my Asus 1001p which was 3 yrs old and having problems charging because of the plug port. Once you uninstall the bloatware that comes prepackaged with everything these days and optimize windows 7 to run better on your netbook (search google) it works very well. Obviously I'm not gonna do any video editing or play the latest games on it but for surfing the web, watching videos, listening to music, school work and all the basics its great. As a plus the charger port is bigger and sturdier than that on my old asus.

It is hard to find anything substantial to complain about here. The two downsides I see are that the display is glossy and difficult to read in bright light (like most laptops) and that the construction appears relatively cheap.

Nevertheless, this is exactly what I wanted and expected, a more or less disposable small laptop that would run Ubuntu well enough. Never even booted up Windows. I installed the Ubuntu 12.04 beta. Everything works: wifi, standby mode, encrypted lvm. 2GB of RAM seems to be plenty for my use.

At around $800 for a 15 inch, this laptop undercuts the Apple Macbook Pro by about half. It is thin and light and with great decent build quality. The multi touch mouse is a little too sensitive but I believe with the correct collaboration, it can be easily fixed. The screen is bright with the LED backlighting. The battery in real life test lasted me about 8-9 hours while surfing the internet. There are additional features which I have yet to masters like smart login with camera. All in all, very satisfied with the purchase. The only thing I found a bit disappointing is that one of the rubber thingies that hides the screw already came off on day two. It does not impact the performance in anyway but it's a bit disappointing. Also there are alot of screw points around the monitor as well which was a bit of a surprise. The 15.6" widescreen is a bit non standard and cannot fit into my LV messenger bag. Windows 7 64 bit requires a bit of adjustments to work with older apps. But other than that, this is a beautiful, FAST, LIGHT alternative to the MacBook Pro.

A modern laptop design thin, lightweight, long battery life, and very nice screen. Unless you are a power user (ie processing speed), I'd get it. Probably the lowest quality aspect is the keyboard I'm not sure why they didn't tighten the keyboard up a bit, because they obviously spent a lot of time on all other aspects. The keys are loose feeling, and it's a bit clangy. On the other hand, I like having the numeric keypad will be great for certain games like Civ. And clearly, you can still type on it. I'm giving it 5 stars anyway because the overall package of price and quality is still a great deal. Windows 7 is much improved versus Vista. They have a lot of stylish icons and whatnot in the ASUS Bios, and they have even spent the time to put a fastboot OS onto the laptop it really is like a 5 second boot. Not worth using in my opinion since Windows 7 boots quite quickly itself.

This is my first Asus, having had Gateways, Dells, and several IBMs before. Comparisons to a MacBook pro aren't totally off-base my wife is sitting beside me with her MacBook Pro, and the screens are definitely comparable, as well as the thinness, lightness, etc. However, there is the keyboard thing. Then again, my wife's macbook has gone in twice for a keyboard repair. Hmm.

Battery life is of course awesome. The warranty is very good as well, better than most other manufacturers'.

Overall good value laptop for the price paid $750 including sales tax.

positive: super thin and light, large hard drive @500gb, bright LED widescreen, HDMI out at 1080 resolution, webcam which has face-recognition authentication, 10 key number pad, decent altec lansing speakers, stay cool keyboard, quiet fan, averaging 10+ hour battery life.

negative: windows 7 premium 64bit OS is a bit buggy with 32bit apps and device drivers , no built-in bluetooth, fingerprints left on black brushed aluminum case, maximum capacity of 4gb ram.

The laptop uses the su7300 Intel core 2 duo processors, which in my opinion is more than adequate for a poweruser. I can run adobe CS4 suite, MS Office, several different browsers and VMware workstation running 2 VMs (2003 server and Fedora Core11) all at the same time.

I was considering buying a Macbook pro laptop but after seeing this at my local BB store, I bought it on impulse and am more than happy with this purchase. Best laptop I have ever bought, i'm official done with HP, Lenovo, and Acer brands.

Honest reviews on ASUS UL50AG-A2 Thin and Light 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - 12 Hours of

First, some background:

I've been a Mac user for 10 years or so as my primary machine. I use a MacBook Pro and OS X as my work machine and needed a secondary laptop for personal use.

I couldn't justify dropping $2,000 for another MacBook Pro so close to Christmastime, but I could justify $600 to $700 for this unit. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and love it.

The Good:

While it does not have the claimed 12 hour battery life, you can easily get 7-10 hours out of it depending on how you configure brightness etc. More than enough to make it a joy to use.

The screen is 15.6 (call it 16" widescreen) and is bright and crisp with plenty of room to work in.

Chicklet keys are really nice touch. In general the unit is really solid and fast.

The one year warranty ASUS has is unusual in that it covers spills and drops. Other manufacturers have this available but you have to pay for it. Comes standard with ASUS.

The Bad:

As other reviewers before have said, there is a very slight flex in the keyboard, but to me it is not noticable, nor do I really care because it doesn't affect my typing.

The exterior black is a neat finish but again, as other reviewers have stated, it is a fingerprint magnet. Not too much of a concern for me though because the machine is a joy to use. Really. It is. If you buy this you will not be disappointed.

The Ugly:

I've tried really hard the past two weeks to find something wrong with the machine and really the only thing that is bad about it is that it runs Windows 7 rather than OS X. Windows 7 is not a bad OS and on this machine it is quite fast, particularly if you don't load up a new laptop with software right when you get it, but rather install one program a day to see if any give you problems.

Final recommendations:

Strongly recommend two things with the purchase of this unit. One is the Microsoft ARC Wireless Mouse. Very cool.

The other is a Backblaze account for set it and forget it, backup. . Get the $50 per year account rather than the $5/month and for less than five bucks a month you will have offsite backup and peace of mind.

In terms of how this unit compares to the MacBook Pro?

The MBP is undoubtedly a more solid machine and the solid aluminum carved block is a joy to use. But if you don't have the money for it and if you need a solid, reliable unit that is fairly similar, this ASUS is a really solid choice; and at $600 to $700, you're not going to find anything comparable to it in the PC line. Trust me, I know. Before buying this unit at Best Buy, I looked at ThinkPads, ACERs, HP, Toshiba, Sony and DELL.

I'm sold on ASUS.

Hope this helps!

I bought this computer mainly because of the claims made about the battery life. I am in college and my laptop goes everywhere that I do. I use a laptop to take lecture notes in all of my classes and on days when I am on campus for 5 plus hours, I really needed to step up the battery life. So, I put my HP to rest and went with this, the Asus ul50ag-A2. This particular model is great! The battery claims are correct. I have been getting easily 8 to 9 hours worth of battery life and I could get even better if I wanted to keep tinkering with the power settings. The ultra-low voltage processor runs just fine, fast enough for me!The quality of this laptop is awesome. It feels very sturdy and well-made. It looks very sleek. All black with a black brushed aluminum finish, LED screen, blue lights, and a very cool "smart-pad" mouse that blends right in with the rest of the computer. I especially love the way the smart-pad works, very much like the mouse on a Macbook, with two-finger scrolling and three-finger tapping that can be used as the right-click function (don't worry, there is also a button for right and left-clicking). So far, I have not had any problems with overheating, but the computer is still relatively new to me (the ice cool palm rest also helps). I also would like to point out that the computer is thin and light. It fits in my book-filled backpack and does not add much more weight at all. I feel safe saying that this is the best laptop I have purchased yet and I will continue to use Asus in the near future. It is easily comparable to computers in the 1000 dollar plus range.

From a nontechy but reasonably computer savy guy-

I absolutely love this laptop. I upgrading from another Satellite laptop that used a dual core i3 processor (which was rated as 2.10 GHz), and this dual core i5 (rated at 1.8 GHz) is pretty fast. I ran a Webroot scan, did a disk clean up and defrag, copied my music files to a 1.0 USB flash drive (I have a ton of music it took about 15 mins), opened a few word docs, opened my iTunes and played it, and on top of all that I opened 12 Chrome tabs and clicked play on all the videos (understand this utilizes your internet and memory more than your processor). While I did all this I opened the CPU performance manager and watched the processor kick up to 2.65 GHz. The CPU got warm but never hot. I'm very happy with the processor performance so far.

While all this was happening, only 3.5 of the 6 gigs of memory were being utilized. So I KNOW I won't need to upgrade the memory (you are able to upgrade to 16 gigs of RAM).

Windows 8 was a pain in the ass when I first started using it. I've grown to like it and I think of it as Windows 7 with a different start button with the ability to download apps.

On top of everything the computer looks sexy as heck.

Complaints: The backlit keyboard only offers you one brightness option.

Also, as with my other Satellite laptop, sometimes (on rare occations so far) this computer does not detect Wifi signals. I accidentally put the computer in "Airplane Mode" and when I turned Airplane Mode back off, the laptop was unable to find any Wifi signals. I figured out how to fix my last Satellite by turning off the laptop, removing the battery, then turning the laptop back on. Since there is no battery on this one you have to go into Device Manager..go to Network Adapters...find Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230...right click to uninstall this (IMPORTANT: do NOT check the "Remove drivers" option)...wait for it to uninstall then right click on any of the other adapters in the drop down...right click then click "Scan for hardware changes"...the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 should show back up and your Wifi radio switch should be turned back on and it will then detect wifi. You may never have to deal with this issue and its not enough for me to take away a full star so I'm sticking with 5 stars.

Honest reviews on Toshiba - Satellite 15.6" Laptop - 3rd Gen Intel® CoreTM

Seller was excellent but Toshiba touch pad difficult to adjust to as lacks click-able buttons for control and Microsoft needs to stop pushing unpolished software to the customer aka Windows 8 as not build for systems that do not have touch screens. Overall good product and great experience. Thank you.

I bought this laptop as a replacement of my business laptop. If I lose a laptop I risk business.

Since I've owned this computer, 2 months, it has crashed twice. The recovery software saves my internet explorer but not the software, which must be reloaded after a crash. The primary problem isn't the faulty crash recovery.

It's the keyboard. I must type very slowly, for me, because it skips when I use keys on my right hand. I've seen the cursor jump to a paragraph above, typically. This is frustrating; I keep typing and have to stop, erase and start over.

Ending on a positive note, the Toshiba comes up fast --seconds. This is much faster than with Win-7 on my mainline HP. The keystroking on the HP is far superior. Toshiba, if you're listening, please fix the keyboard. You've got a good laptop here but for that.

This laptop is so pretty and I love it so much. Can't believe I can get it at this lower price. The dual core, 4GB makes all functions run very fast. 14.1" monitor just fits me very well. Love this baby!!

Performance/specification wise for the price this is a pretty good deal. But if you're a stickler for design you'll be very disappointed, mostly around the keyboard/touch pad. First off the keyboard is offset to the left about an inch while the touch pad is centered. This leaves your right hand constantly contacting the touch pad during use and moving/clicking the mouse all over the screen. This is very very annoying. Second, the keys are large and well placed for the main letters, but most of the extra keys: insert, del, arrows, etc just don't feel right or natural. I've used much smaller keyboards than this that have been much more intuitively placed. Then the touch buttons for volume and wireless enable/disable are too easy to accidentally touch. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally disabled my wireless, and there is no option to disable these buttons.

I got this laptop as a present for my first year of college and overall I'm pleased with the functionality it provides. Yes it is not a Macbook pro or an Alienware, but it is good enough for me to use Word, do research on the internet, and watch Youtube videos. If you need an entry level laptop for school or college at a great price, this will be my first pick.

very affordable came on timeno issues. Brand new computer. I use it as a secondary lap top so I dont use all the time but fast and simple for basic use. Great for the money

update 1/18/2013

I have had to use it as a primary lap top After Uploading all my software I noticed it running a bit slow with some graphics.

I believe the graphics card is a little sub par but after upgrading memory to 8gb for around $60 and optimizing performance and virtual memory its fast enough.

I bought this computer Nov 5, 2012, and now, 3 months later, it is dead. It has crashed multilple times, and now it won't turn on at all. I do believe that the life of a computer should be longer than THREE MONTHS!!! If I could rate it lower than one star, I would.

This is the second Toshiba computer that has been a piece of crap and I will NEVER buy Toshiba again. I have had problems with this computer since I bought it..software, hardware,crashing...you name it. Toshiba customer service is NOT helpful and to find some tech help where the person speaks English that you can actually understand is impossible. This review is no reflection on the seller...totally a dud Toshiba product..I would not recommend this product from my personal experience..I think I got a lemon! My daughter has the same computer and has had no problems at all!

Before purchasing his laptop, I'd done a ton of research to find the most appropriate Windows 8 PC/tablet hybrid. Once I decided on the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11s, with this processor and in this color, it turned out that it wasn't available ANYWHERE, not at Best Buy and not even from Lenovo. I was thrilled, therefore, to find it on Amazon, though I was disappointed that I wouldn't get it for the sale price being offered at Best Buy. I was a bit hesitant to make this kind of purchase online (expensive, unknown seller, etc.), but I'm glad I took the risk. My laptop was shipped out within hours, and I received it in less than 3 days. I was extremely pleased with Cell Locker's service, and the laptop itself is a dream! Small, very light and ultraportable. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but beyond that I'm having a lot of fun. Lenovo has made an awesome product with this one, responsive, versatile, and gorgeous. The clementine color is really eye-catching, and I've already received lots of compliments on it. Overall, VERY pleased with this purchase!!

This laptop isn't bad at all for the price. I bought this for college use and it will do that fairly well because of how thin and light it is. I was surprised that it even had a light up keyboard even when being so thin. The touchscreen couldn't be better, it's fluid and responsive. As for the CPU and GPU, before I get into that I'll say that my main computer before this was a custom built desktop with a AMD FX-4100 unlocked processor and an AMD Radeon HD 7770 as well as 8GB of RAM. The processor is clocked to 4.2GHz, and yet somehow, I prefer this laptop's AMD A10 CPU over the FX-4100. Both run the same Windows 8 OS, and yet, copying 12GB of data on the laptop took around 5 minutes, while doing the same on the desktop took more than twice that amount. There are many more situations where the A10 stood out against an overclocked FX chip. The A10 also comes with a built in GPU, as a competitor to Intel's HD Graphics 4000, and I must say, AMD has won this competition. The graphics is better than the graphics on my year old Dell XPS L502X, which is a big heavy laptop and was intended for performance, it came with an i7 and a Nvidia GeForce 525M. Some games like Syndicate do lag a lot even on lowest settings, but other games like Just Cause 2 and even Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 will be PLAYABLE at the highest possible settings. By playable I mean yes there will be a lower FPS, but it'll be high enough to play. Decrease the graphics settings a bit and both games play lag-less and with great graphics.

There is one issue when it comes to the hardware. I find the touchpad to be ridiculously annoying to use as it's not very accurate. The overall feel of the product seems very plastic-y and I expected a better feel for a laptop at this price. But then again, the materials used for it is the reason why it's not so heavy. Also the webcam quality sucks. It could have been way better. But I rarely use it so it doesn't bother me.

All in all I really like this laptop, but it did take some time to get used to it. People complained about the keyboard but for me it's just fine. It's a bit cramped but I can still type on it pretty fast. And as for the touchpad, you won't want to use it when you have such a great touchscreen. I recommend this laptop to everyone, regardless of whether you want a laptop for gaming, work, or entertainment. The speakers on it are tiny but they're loud and sound great with the surround sound option so watching movies on it is a pleasure as well. I bought this laptop with high expectations and in most aspects, this laptop surpassed those expectations.

If you are looking for a laptop that is fast, plenty of Hard Drive, USB ports, HDMI connector to hook to your TV, then this one may be one for you. I wanted speed, large hard drive, but the one thing I did forget to check was the CD Reader/Writer. It doesn't come with a CD Reader/Writer, but I ordered a external CD writer from Amazon for $28. Since I don't use CD that much, not a big deal to me.

Best Deals for Acer Aspire V5-552P-X440 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Cold Steel)

Good processor speed, lots of RAM and huge hard drive. This is a widescreen layout, so you get a dedicated numeric pad, but you will be typing "left of center" if you hold it on your lap. The laptop is very lightweight, partly because it has no internal optical drive. The backlit keyboard is a nice feature for dimly lit areas. Screen resolution is very sharp. The touchscreen is very responsive, but I've had problems with the browsers and web pages not responding appropriately. For example, trying to close a pagetab by touching the "X", or trying to display the contents of a dropdown list by clicking the arrow. Often it takes two or more touches (or I give up and use the mouse). The brushed metal looking case (actually hard plastic) feels sturdy.

I bought this to replace my gateway laptop and the laptop will be primarily used for school. I have a custom built desktop that blows other peoples computers away, so I didn't expect the tablet to compete with that. I just wanted something light enough to carry around and study with. Right out of the box the computer worked great. I had no issues connecting it to my router. It took a little getting used to with the apps and trying to navigate around but once I figured it out ( which took only 20 minutes to do) I found that I was loving the laptop. I love that anything that i install on the laptop I can access on the main app screen. The touch screen I love. The lack of a CD drive was no problem. I just got an external CD drive and was able to install the programs in needed to easily.
