I picked up this laptop from a local computer store, and I'm loving it so far, the advertised 4 speakers (5 if you include the subwoofer) sounds better tan all my other laptops, maybe it's the beats speakers, or the subwoofers.

I didn't see the finger print reader, so that was a real plus, the hp fingerprint software is fast and easy to use, no problems so far.

The core runs at 1400mhz idle, 2300mhz with a decent workload, and 3100mhz with turbo core/turboboost, it's a A10, which means its a quad core

Simply the best computer to get your schoolwork and gaming done in. I purchased this because as a college student things get demanding sometimes and every once in a while you get bored so this is where this baby does the job!

If you need maximum power for a low price this is the way to go. gets schoolwork and gaming done right quick. With the quad core processor you play almost all new games and windows 8 makes it even better.

Honest reviews on HP ENVY dv6-7245us AMD Quad-Core A10-4600M 2.30GHz Notebook PC

I like the laptop. I like the finger print password feature. Makes it easy for me to log on without the hassle of correcting typos.

The colour is fantastic.

6 GB RAM, 5.67 GB Usable. Not bad. Pretty fast at first but have slowed down a little even though I don't have much on it yet.

It's easy to carry, and I absolutely LOVE the audio output from this machine, which is much better than my Toshiba.

It used to stay cool at first. I've had it for about a week and I can already feel the hardware heating up even though I'm not gaming or running demanding applications. I hope this won't be a problem even though I'm using a cooler with it.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the product. I hope it will last.

Ive been looking all over for a small portable laptop to replace my old vaio. My older one was a 15.6in, so anything smaller would have been great. This one I feel is just as good as my older vaio. With the exception of the smaller processor than my older one. Still, the computer runs smoothly and qucikly. The grapics are great (LED), The keyboard will take some getting used to, since its smaller its more squashed. If you have already used a netbook before you should be fine with the keyboard size. For me, being the size of a netbook and getting all the amenities of a laptop sold me. Ive found most laptops this size are more expensive, so finding one at this price with what I needed was great. If your an AutoCad user, AutoCad will run on this, plus, with it being portable, you can take it with you to work or a job site easier. All in all, the other con I have to say is I wish the processor size would have been bigger, but for what I need it for (AutoCad, word processing, internet, music, etc) it works for me.

The portability of the laptop is very good. As expected, the performanace is very average. Also, it is very inconvenient that there is no optical drive. The sony external optical drive is not compatible with the device as the device does not have an ilink port, which is a very stupid design. I tried many cables and could not make it work. The Sony tech support is terrible!

I bought this laptop two weeks ago, it is really light and looks nice, which can satisfy what I need, but there are some problems I am not satisfied with. First of all, the battery's life is not what offcial website states. In fact, the battery life is only about 4 hours if the brightness is moderate and connecting wireless. Furthemore, the price is relatively expensive. The price I wish to pay for is about 420~450 dollars. The advantage is the screen is perfect and keyborad is also nice to press and the charger is very light.

I was happy when it arrived. But I got a little sad and surprised when I opened it, it was small as what I did not expect it to be. However, it looks nice. I can carry everywhere. Also, I can plug it into the TV, so I can watch music video or movie in a big screen. The only thing I am not happy with it is that it does not have a CD-Rom.

I've had a really good experience with my 2go QW6. For the money (paid only $375 on a bid site 6 months ago) it's a great value for a netbook with 2GB DDR3, 320GB HDD and Windows Home Premium. The 11.6" size is pretty ideal from my perspective small enough to carry around and yet a full-size keyboard. The screen is bright and clear and the tactile response of the keyboard is better than any netbook that I've used. It's really too bad that CTL netbooks are not more widely available.

My first material internet purchase rocks! I needed a quick cheap laptop for school and CAD modeling (Solidworks & AutoCAD) and the Dell D610 with 2.13 ghz Pentium M cpu fits the bill just fine. Everything worked out of the box, shipping was reasonable and prompt. Not perfect...the power supply cord (which works) had ripped insulation, but this is an easy fix. This computer is a deal at $130.00 including shipping. Thanks Amazon!

Great screen resolution, and the built in software that makes older DVDs look better actually works. Energy saver cuts in automatically if you leave the screen open and forget about it. The keyboard feels great, it's just like a full size desk top KB. The two button cursor pad reacts quickly and is easy to use with one hand. It is set up as an on line entertainment PC, so if you want to use it for work, about half the software on the computer is completely useless. Windows 8 comes with a start page, which is just an extra step to get where you want to be. It is obviously designed for internet touch screen devices and it's a useless addition for a device without a touch screen, but that's more a comment about W8 than about this computer. It's plug and play with everything I connected to it so far, so no installation CDs required for any of my devices. Logged on to the internet and it immediately registered Windows and was ready to go. Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 is just as bad as all the previous versions, so I replaced it with the latest version of Firefox. A lot of software on there either expires in 30 days or you have to sign up immediately to use, which is pretty much what you get on every computer, unlike the good old days when you got free full versions of things like MS Word, complete with install disk, which I just installed on this computer and it works just fine, so I don't have to pay Microsoft for new versions of the same old software! For work use, the speed and memory are more than sufficient, but I just spent a few hours playing the free Penguins game on it, and it only stalled once, I don't know why maybe because I touched the pad with two fingers and it was confused. Only had it a week, but no problems yet.

When I received this I was having problems from the start with connecting to my mobile hotspot. My old computer there was no problems. So the first call they blamed it on interface problems with Windows 8, after asking my Grandson to attempt to hook up with his Dell/Windows 8, he had no problems connecting to my hotspot. So I returned the call and I was given a royal run around. They said they could fix my problem if I purchased a additional $149. level 3 tech assist package. After spending almost 2 hours on the phone with them trying to resolve my problem, one hour with my Son who is a network engineer I finally gave up and returned the computer.

Why should I have to pay $149. to get a new out of the box computer to work? Only plus with this transaction was Amazon's return policy! In addition, the call center is in the Phillipines and the accents are so profound that it's almost impossible to understand.

I really am suprised at how much I am liking this little sucker the more I use it, the back lit keyboard is really nice for myself. I got it in a pinch as i have been traveling a little more then usual. I bought it really expecting to return it, thinking the overall (especially screen) size was too small. I can say that due to overall quality, and design, i am really impressed, of course there is the bloatware one must get rid of, but one of the biggest things I like is the keyboard, I am not a great typest or even a typist, so this is such a nice suprise, i guess its just the ergonomics are so well thought out or the "solid" feel maybe...but its great! watching any kind of news video, or a true 1080HD so far is stellar on this little screen, the wireless antenna is simply rockingly sensitive, the best at picking up signals compared to others everytime I have checked another laptop and mine together.

I was seconds away from purchasing an Apple Macbook Air, due to they're design in their quality of materials and ergonomics philosophy, I was sold once I picked it up and "felt" how well made and "saw" the fit and finish and "knew" of the great customer satisfaction apple provides. The saleman and I went to one certain site i couldnt use my desktop for, the only site the portability was important (paramount really) I needed to use a laptop for, and the software to update the speed and redlight camera databases only worked with windows 7, the reason I am telling the whole story is....I am comparing it to the Macbook Air 13" which was aluminium, not plastic, and running Mac OS, so the sony doesnt have a better material for its casing, apple gets that one, and the OS is your call as I certainly have nothing against Windows 7 (its the bomb IMHO) so....the build quality is second to none (up to and including Apple) and due to its ability to do everything I need, and do it with this awesome keyboard and solid build, an example of this is; the hinges on screen(and screen) are built very well, and balanced perfectly (slightly loosened over time so-as to lift up EXACTLY like the macbooks. I dont forget the Apple's are the benchmark, but sony did thier homework on them, its styled very much like a macbook air, slightly larger, but it was $600 dollars less, and for the price the sony had a faster processer then the air with its core duo (at time of this writing, expected updates anytime), vs i5, 500gb HDD vs 640gb, and numerous other little thing you get (and dont get without buying an Apple) I personally feel like its my own Windows Macbook, only because its built so damn well....

If you are looking for a "smaller" sized, quality laptop on par, and in some way maybe even an edge' on others, and certainly better then your kids 15" "run of the mill" school laptop, this little baby is fast, huge HDD, great Xtra's HDD protection, and the ever getting cooler and more useful (to myself) intel wireless display then its gonna end up being a good choice, even for a guy thinking he was gonna take it back, now its my buddy, and because it is small, yet well built, I use it and take it more then all other computers, even when not traveling, my new 17" toshiba sits, while i grab the lil one thats not only fast, reliable and looks great, has a keyboard that make it easy for me to type, which is important to me..

I bought the this new at BestBuy for $1,050 and have regretted every minute of owning this machine.

The Software is extremely faulty (but this is Microsoft's fault, not Sony).

The hardware looked great first, and attracted me to buying it in the first place. Two months down the road the whole top of the computer is peeling off from normal use. The computer is only 4 months old and it looks like it is 4 years old now. The quality of the materials is extremely low and cheap. This computer probably costs Sony $100 bucks to make.

The interior hardware worked for two months and then the Wiimax adapter completely broke down. I called Sony support and they re-installed the drivers 3 times. By the third time the Sony rep said that it was a hardware issue and I had to send the computer to Sony for repair. You do not want to hear this with a brand new laptop.

I have regretted owning this and am disappointed that Sony created such a bad product and charged us over $1,000 for it. Had I known the hardware and the exterior of the laptop was going to peel off like a sticker then I would have gone ahead and bought a cheaper brand, perhaps an HP or a Lenovo.

Sony never called me back to help with the repair and they never sent me any additional information after contacting them 3-4 times.

This is my first personal laptop, and I'm happy with the purchase. It's good looking and fast. My only complaint is with Microsoft. They are trying to make their operating system and internet browser cleaner looking and more intuitive. Sometimes I'd rather have my options visible and let me do the thinking rather than thinking for me. That's not the fault of the computer though, and I'll get used to it eventually.

Just a few chapters away from the finish line on my first book and my old nasty broke laptop quit, then another shorted out, then another could no longer run OpenOffice. It was dire.

I wanted to wait until I could afford a higher end laptop but I ended up taking a shot on this Lenovo. I needed something that could handle my workload. Writing, editing, graphics, websites, social networking... and I needed one that could do it all at once.

Elphaba will be my faithful muse while I make my writing dreams come true!

Great computer, everything was set up and running right away. No issues of any sort. So happy with her.

Special Non Lenovo Note: Window 8 is a demon from the pit of hell. It literally made me cry. Thankfully I was able to run a windows shell and get my desktop back. Still haven't been able to deactivate the "charms" bar. It makes my writing life a living hell, and graphics... ughh.

Back to Lenovo. It makes Windows 8 almost bearable. Everything is running smoothly. Fast, clean, and good price too. My book is back on track.

Oh, and why did I name her Elpahaba?

I plan to defy gravity silly!

Best Deals for Lenovo G585 15.6-Inch Laptop (Matte Black)

The laptop is light and has a raised keyboard for easy typing. All the features are excellent and you are not going to get a better laptop in this price range.

Honest reviews on Lenovo G585 15.6-Inch Laptop (Matte Black)

I needed a computer because I've been using my iPad as my main computer, and I was getting tired of really only being able to use one app at a time and by the word processing functions on it. I sold the iPad and I purchased the Lenovo G585 because the price point was good, particularly with the specs included, and because of the good reviews.

It ended up being a bad decision. It is near impossible to watch a streaming video without it being patchy in either the video or sound, even with no other programs or windows open. It's very frustrating, since I don't have a TV and would want to watch Hulu or Netlflix, and it makes it difficult with Facebook or Youtube videos. Even gifs don't display properly or smoothly. Regular webpages without any media content also display that "patchy" behavior, where it gets stuck in places when you're trying to scroll and even the text you are typing does not show up evenly. Pages take quite a bit to load and forget about trying to open up multiple tabs on a web browser. My first day using it, I had IE and Spotify open and it froze and crashed I haven't even tried installing most of the apps I'd like to have, including Word, because I know it will just be frustrating.

I am told it's quite possibly a Windows 8 problem, but this computer doesn't come with a Windows 7 downgrade and I'm not willing to spend more money on an installation CD. On top of that, Windows 8 is pretty frustrating to use. I'm returning the computer, and I hope I can warn some others to not waste their time.

Sony VAIO SVS13A18GXB 13.3' Notebook PC - Black
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

This Sony SVS13A18GXB replaced a Samsung Q430 with a second generation Intel Core i5 and GeForce 310M discrete graphics which has been a good laptop but is now overheating frequently even after cleaning the vent and fan. I use this laptop for work and play and the real test for me is game-play. I am running my favorite game with no hiccups and much faster than on the Samsung laptop. The 1600 x 900 resolution is far superior to the 1366 x 768 for detail and blu-ray movies look superb though I know it would be better on a full HD. The built-in widi solves that problem by being able to display the full HD on my large screen television wirelessly through the aftermarket adapter.

I like the fingerprint swipe instead of logging in every time I boot and speaking of boot time... it's almost instantaneous after opening the lid if you don't power down. Just close the lid instead of powering down and when you re-open... there it is within 2 seconds. You can literally go days by just closing the lid instead of powering down. Even running full brightness with the discrete graphics card I get almost twice the battery life than on the old Samsung. This computer is lighter, faster and the battery lasts longer. This was nearly twice the price of the Samsung but the performance is so much better it was worth it.

My rating is 4 stars because it is a bit pricey in comparison but there aren't many laptops this light with these features. I looked at the ultra-books but the graphics performance just isn't there yet with maybe one exception.

Asus® U56E-RBL7 Laptop Computer With 15.6' LED-Backlit Screen & 2nd Gen Intel® CoreTM i5-2410M Processor With Turbo Boost 2.0/ 8GB memory/ 750GB hard drive

The U56e is a sleek, aluminum-body unit with an excellent keyboard. Altogether very solid and attractive. Processor is fast enough and memory is more than enough. Battery is phenomenal.

But there is a serious flaw with the Elan touchpad: it's very erratic and unstable. It jerks around, frequently opening apps you didn't intend to, or straying around your document. While I'd done my due diligence research on this unit before purchasing, it wasn't until I'd delved into some geek forums that I discovered others making the same complaint. Several expressed astonishment that ASUS has been letting this flaw pass for years now.

After reporting this problem to ASUS support, they instructed me to reinstall the touchpad and load BIOS default. I did this, but it didn't correct the problem, which I assume is uncorrectable after reading about it in the forums. In the end, I bought an external wireless mouse.

I wish I could recommend ASUS to friends, but this mouse issue is so fundamental, I cannot do so. And it is truly jawdropping that ASUS would let this problem go on for years without intervention.

I've had this laptop about 3 mos. For the most part I love it. It's fast, clear, thin, light, and doesn't get hot. I've had it on my lap for about 1 hour and it's fine barely warm. Yes, the battery makes it heavier, but compared to other laptops the same size it's great. I love the full keyboard with number pad.

The mouse pad is okay not as smooth or large as macs, but better than most PC mouse pads. I use it with a wireless mouse they are cheap and very good these days. There's a youtube vid on this laptop and the guy comments that the dvd drive is very sensitive I haven't used mine for burning yet. The speakers are definitely small but I think they had to do this to get the profile so thin. If you use a laptop for music you should probably have separate speakers anyway.

Honest reviews on Asus® U56E-RBL7 Laptop Computer With 15.6" LED-Backlit Screen

I bought this product about a year ago from a big box store for about $500 during a sale. Overall I have been very happy with the product.

The greatest appeal to this laptop is it's power and it's battery life.

On a full charge this thing can go about five hours. And while you may not have a the best processor or video card, I can still play games like Oblivion and Starcraft II on it at decent quality.

Like others have said, the touch pad is a bit too sensitive. I have often bumped it and unintentionally clicked things.

I have used the laptop heavily for a year and a half now and the battery is beginning to show it's wear. It's only doing about 3 hours on a full charge now.

My only other gripe is cosmetic. Some of the letters too quickly wore off. The left mouse button got worn as well.

Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. The laptop runs quickly, quietly, and coolly.

I bought a U56E-BBL5 last year and the motherboard began to fail at about 13 months (unit kept randomly shutting itself off). By 16 months, the motherboard rendered the laptop unusable. ASUS would not honor the repair even though the unit was just a few months out of warranty. In my opinion, the motherboard was not manufactured to be a durable component and spoils the good features of the laptop since it is not usable without an expensive repair (around $400). ASUS had an opportunity to practice good citizenship and take responsibility for the substandard component but chose not to. I have seen a number of identical complaints involving some ASUS motherboards.

This laptop is great. It is powerful, well made, and even has good battery life for a 17" machine. Our only complaint is in terms of value. After buying one of these ZBooks, we found that the Dell Precision has similar performance at a much lower price. With the 3200 x 1800 resolution screen, we found that employees who used to demand a 17 inch display were now begging for the higher resolution, lighter weight, and smaller package of the Dell Precision M4800.

There is nothing wrong with this machine, but give Dell a chance if you are looking for a better value and higher screen resolutions.

Also consider buying a cheaper machine and adding the Samsung SSD drives and the extra memory yourself. You can literally save thousands of dollars doing that.

I've been using this computer for a week now and I really like it. The processor is a stripped down i3 and it handles everyday tasks well, including playing 720 and 1080 HD video. The keyboard is excellent quality. I don't like the touchpad, however I'm not a fan of them in general. The computer comes stock with a ton of bloatware but it is easily removed. Overall I would certainly purchase it again, especially at the $299 price point it was available for on Black Friday.

After 3 calls (first one said "you need a new keyboard" and hung up; 2nd one said he could walk her through the set-up steps for $150; 3rd one was a great service rep. Turns out the alphabet entry was locked and he walked us through a reboot (pressed F9 a bunch of times as it restarted). Then after an hour or so, that part was fixed. Next day, we tried to access the Microsoft Office (limited function or something like that). The product key code would not work. Called Microsoft where rep gave us 4 different product keys to try. No luck. Referred to someplace else. They were all set to help us but turns out they charged $100+. It was like pulling teeth to get them to say whether or not there was a charge. Gave that up for another day. CD/DVD optic drive would not load any discs. Today (after requesting return label from Amazon) it ejected the disc that was trapped inside it. I am sad that this seemingly snappy little computer did not perform. I think I got a lemon. Too bad the service reps were so unhelpful, aside from the man who got the keyboard unlocked and the system rebooted.

I just recieved this product by ups today and it actually came earlier than it originally said it would arrive. So far I love this computer. It is very fast and just the perfect size. The battery life is great if you have your screen brightness on low, I am at 84% and it says I still have 6hrs and 23mins. It really is a good looking computer and is very sleek and sharp looking. The only thing that is not so great is the clarity of the webcam other than that it is an amazing computer and the perfect buy.

Heard good things about lenovos quality from friends, so while browsing for a laptop for school I decided to try this model. It came DoA so I'll review what I can. I would also like to add that I'll be sticking with ASus from now on which is my primary brand of computers.

Pros

-aesthetically its wonderful the blue and white color scheme is great

-Light weight I'm used to gaming laptops so this was a breathe of fresh air

Cons

-came dead

it was shipped in the laptop box itself, I have never received a laptop that wasn't packaged with another box for safety, the lenovos box was also a little beat up which is probably the reason it broke

screen was unhinged, I actually saw this review from another buyer and thought nothing of it, but this may be a common occurrence

keyboard seems to flex, i don't know how much this would affect use, but it flexes pretty deep

when lifting the screep up it makes a scratching noise at the hinges, doesn't seem to scratch anything, but could be annoying

It definitely seems like it would be a great college laptop with it's portability, but I'm not going to deal with lenovo anymore. I'll be looking at a more premium line from Asus.

Just want to add that UPS did a terrible job.

I needed an ultrabook as a gift for my wife. Her work does not require hardcore performance but she likes slim and stylish workstations. Lenovo IdeaPad U310 met both of these conditions, in fact it proved better on performance than expected. It has core i5 3rd generation processor and 4 gig memory so that was more than enough for performance and it has the McBook styling yet it differs (in a good way) with nice blue color. Plus it was very affordable for my pocket! All in all, my wife is very happy and hence I am happy with the product!

Display back light was dead and the front panel that holds the display was open.

This is my first return on Amazon, looks like bad quality check. Dont know who is at fault lenovo or distributor or Amazon.

I purchased a HP Envy 6t and had to live without a personal laptop for 10 days :)

Reviews of ASUS U36SD-A1 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop (Black)

ASUS U36SD-A1 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop

Okay first thing first. I did not actually buy this computer from Amazon, I purchased it from a Microsoft retail store and it is actually not a U36SD-A1 but a U36SD-RBK5 but as far as I can tell the only difference is the RBK5 does not come with built in bluetooth. No big deal for me.

For those of you who don't feel like reading all of the following, I'll summarize this review into pros and cons.

PROS:

Awesome build quality

Thin

Decent track pad

Dedicated graphics

No optical drive

Cons:

Glossy bezel

No backlit keyboad

Sub par screen for this category

The build quality is very nice throughout the entire laptop. There is little to no flexing in any part of the keyboard or palm rest and the entire body has a really nice feel to it. Asus claims it has a "nanometer coating" and a "magnesium aluminum" frame, I'm not sure what a nanometer coating is but it feels nice and does seem to resist fingerprints pretty decently. I am slightly worried about how scratch resistant the coating will be, but I guess only time will tell how strong it really is. The only thing I don't like about the body of this laptop is the glossy bezel. How hard would it have been to extend this awesome feeling material to the relatively thin bezel around the screen? The glossy material is the only thing that looks cheap on this computer..

This laptop is awesomely thin. It's the first thing every one I've shown it has pointed out. It's not as thin as a MacBook Air or the Samsung Series 9 but I couldn't imagine anyone thinking this beauty was fat. You can't tell from any of the pictures posted, but the included 8 cell battery sticks out about 3/8" from the bottom of the laptop. It actually props the computer up at a nice angle so it doesn't bother me. Overall I'm really pleased with the design of this computer.

The keyboard is pretty nice as well. Not much to say about it, if you've used a chicklet keyboard before than you pretty much know what youre getting. I would've loved to see a backlit keyboard option, but I guess sacrifices had to be made in order to keep this form factor.

The trackpad appears to have the same nanometer coating as the rest of the body, albeit a slightly slipperier version. It feels good and is fairly large. One tweak I stumbled upon is a little program that enables two finger scrolling. Two finger scrolling is one of the few things I'm envious about on my friends' macs so finding a way to enable it (and enable it well) was pretty exciting for me. It should be noted that the trackpad, by default, has the typical scrolling area on the right hand side, but I found this to be a little difficult to use sometimes and happily ditched it for two finger scrolling.

The screen is reasonably sharp and colors come out just okay but I wish the resolution was slightly higher and I kind of expect a laptop in mid 2011 to come with something better. I mean my Dell m1330 I bought 3 years ago has the same resolution! Come on Asus, at least offer a nicer screen as an upgrade option...

I haven't had any issues with the performance yet, but then again I wouldn't expect any with what I've used it for thus far. It runs perfectly fine with half a dozen or so tabs open in chrome plus utorrent running in the background and vlc playing a 720p movie. I haven't tried any video editing or gaming yet on it but for day to day use it will definitely not disappoint. I'm thankful to have a dedicated graphics card as my last laptop did not. I'm not a huge gamer but I think it should be able to run most modern games with the detail turned down a little at a reasonable frame rate.

Battery life is respectable. I've been getting around 4-5 hours with the brightness cranked all the way up while browsing the internet and watching the occasional video. Turn down the brightness a little bit and it could easily last another hour or so.

One final note is the lack of an optical drive. A lot of people may be hesitant because of this, but this was actually a requirement for me while I was searching for a new computer. For most people I know and myself the optical drive goes largely unused. In the three years I owned my old laptop I used the optical drive maybe 4-5 times. I see no reason in lugging it around everyday if I hardly ever use it. I bought an external usb optical drive on sale from fry's for $30, so if I ever need to install a program from a dvd then I'll still be okay. Physical media like CD are quickly become obsolete and I for one am glad to see them go.

So to wrap it up I really love this laptop. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a thin 13.3" computer at a reasonable price. Plus if youre a student (like me) and purchase this computer in the month you get a free xbox 360 if you buy it from a participating store!

Leave a comment if you want me to go into detail about any other feature of this computer. I'd be glad to help!

Asus U36sd-A1, is one of the best laptops I have ever seen or felt. This piece of awesomeness is fast, sturdy and thinner than any other laptop in this category (excluding samsung which is overly priced). The solid metallic feel is great and fun to carry it around in one hand.

I decided to buy this after researching for over 2 weeks. Only competitor to this laptop worth trying is Toshiba Portege R830 series. But it has negative remarks for the cooling system they brag about but not sure how genuine the remarks are.

I have had a Toshiba before which lasted for 5 years without a glitch but it's time to try something new.

Asus, being the first in most reliable laptops (second being Toshiba), there's no chance I could avoid trying Asus this time. I bought this piece from gentechpc, configured to 6GB RAM. It has a nice little button at the top left corner which allows you to change performance modes (high performance, battery saving, entertainment mode, quiet office mode) which is a cool feature.

Optimus technology changes the graphic card access between nvidia and in house intel graphic cards, saving power. I have only heard about this feature but believe me it's really great seeing it practically.

One full charge gave me 7hrs of battery life with battery saving mode and 4hrs of battery with high performance mode. I tested Video editing (mpeg encoding) for speed, heat and noise. Encoding was fast, but it got little hotter and noise negligible. Playing 1080p videos for an hour may make it hot but compared to other laptops (macbook pro, toshiba portege which my friends own), it's less.

Chiclet Keyboard feel is great and all keys are easily accessible. You know, ctrl, end, home keys in some laptops are annoying.

Browsing is fun, can't get better than this. It has a usb3 which I never tested for video cos I think there's no receiver yet in the market. 4.8Gb/s transfer rate would definitely be good to see.

Only cons are speakers, price and optical drive but if you are willing to spend 30 bucks for external dvd/cd drive, then you are good to go. I personally go with latest tech and I think optical drive is obsolete but for blu-ray burners.

I think price is reasonable compared to its competitors (vaio, toshiba{if configured}, lenovo/thinkpad) with similar form factor.

To maintain this form factor I can imagine the placement of low powered speakers. But, the inbuilt 5.1 soundblaster card makes your headset or external speaker experience great.

All-in-all you gotta experience it! I would definitely recommend this laptop to Tech enthusiasts cos there's much to explore.

Best Deals for ASUS U36SD-A1 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop (Black)

I bought this laptop from a local Microsoft Store yesterday after stumbling upon an external link Amazon gave on this page. THIS was the laptop I had been waiting 9 months for since the U36JC debut. Felt like I just had a baby.. so joyous!

Anyway, as I unveiled it, I was impressed on how THIN the body was while having an AMAZINGLY solid frame. The laptop base does not bend if you hold it at any of the corners! It definitely does not feel like cheap plastic (probably because it really IS made of lightweight metal) & has a classy satin feel to it. It has a fingerprint-repelling nano-coating seemingly all over the body too. It is also so light for having such a powerful processor + graphics card. My computer friend was right to have me wait/hold out until this came out. I was tempted with HPs, Sonys, Acers but from his repair experience on so many laptops, those were all junk! (HPs were decent in the middle but still the construction felt cheap/plastic).

Such a powerful [Sandy Bridge] processor in such a solid body with such a thin profile has finally become a dream come true. Portability without the sacrifice of quality & power.. such is the legendary motherboard manufacturer ASUS!

GREAT JOB ASUS!!!

Honest reviews on ASUS U36SD-A1 13.3-Inch Thin and Light Laptop (Black)

I am writing this review because I am simply blown away by how amazing this laptop is, and if anyone out there is on the fence about this one, then TLDR: buy it.

Pros:

Dedicated GPU

Battery Life is amazing

Super light weight and thin

The over-all design is beautiful (magnesium alloy!!)

Keyboard is lovely

Asus Quality is top notch

Specs are great

Screen is beautiful

Cons:

No backlit keyboard

Can get super hot when over-clocked and graphics card running

No optical drive (I have yet to see this as a problem, but will mention it)

The lame glossy screen bezel

Battery makes it -justa little tough to slide into a regular 13" laptop case.

Lame speakers

So I will go through the cons (I feel like I've covered them all, but message me and I will attempt to cover any those you feel I missed) and examine them item by item

CONS

No Backlit Keyboard: This really is a semi killer, especially for those who are looking for a super-portable game laptop. Especially since the keys are black, in the dark (unless you are a true gamer and you have the keyboard already memorized lol) its a pretty big con. But for the 90% other things you do with the U36, this will be a minor inconvenience, but it would just be that extra icing on the cake. ::sigh:: maybe the u37 (which I am set on buying btw)

Hot: Let us be honest, when the laptop is set to high performance, and you are chugging away on the graphics card, this is a serious issue. If you are in a lan party, your team mate to the left of you will experience some severe discomfort. Of course, it is just a side effect of having not only an amazing CPU and GPU, but built in overclocking as well. Also, the heat management system (which is a beauty to behold, if you decide to open her up) is very effective. It draws away the heat from the keyboard and blows it out on the left side of your laptop, right below the 2 usb ports. I have actually used to the excessive heat to keep snacks warm (I don't really see this as a huge plus, but if its there, might as well use it), and warming my fingers when I'm a bit chilly, but otherwise this is just something that you will have to deal with. Avoid blocking the heat sink exhaust: your laptop will rapidly get warm, and it will blow on your hands as well. Sweaty fingers are not a plus in long rounds of gaming. On a design note, I wish they could have had the exhaust ports pointing to the rear of the laptop, similar to the way the ASUS stealth accomplishes it. PS, lan card is located on bottom right, and this can get a little hot too, but never a big as a problem as it was on my old dell, which got right uncomfortable to use.

No optical drive: In a world of google docs, drop box, deamon tools, and flash drives, I see this as a minor inconvenience at the most, pretty much a non issue in my daily use. Yes it requires you to know a little bit about data manipulation and installation, but honestly... if you are technologically inept, why are you even looking at such a high spec'd, dedicated GPU laptop in the first place? I see this as extra weight I don't have to lug around, and a moving part my battery doesn't need to power.

Screen Bezel: as I will mention later, almost every part of this laptop is crafted with an eye both to practicality and aesthetics. But the bezel to the screen" WTF Asus? It is a nasty black glossy plastic, which holds smudges, fingerprints, and when your laptop screen is in semi-direct sunlight, will glare the funk out of you. More magnesium! Sheesh. Or at least matte black plastic cover the rest of the body. :P

Battery: the 8 cell battery included with the u36 (or 6 cell... different models may have different batteries included) juts out quite a bit. You do have an option to go with the 4 cell as well from the ASUS website, which is almost flush with body, but your battery life will suffer accordingly. I do like the fact that the battery acts as a stand for better keyboard usage and screen viewing, but if you are buying the 13" macbook cases (which are the most popular and hence cheapest and with the most diversity), you will want once that fits "looser" on the macbooks, because a flush 13" case will be a strain for the u36 to get into, owing to the larger battery depth. Buyers beware.

Lame Speaker: The built in speakers that just out from the front of the laptop are lame. No other way around it. Sounds like its coming from a tin can, no base, nothing impressive. HOWEVER, the built in sound card running the audio ports are AMAZING. Solution, when viewing with more people then headphones can handle, us some speakers (I rock a set of HP usb speakers, and the sound card makes them sound AMAZING).

PROS:

Dedicated GPU: The dedicated NVIDIA 520 graphics card was one of the biggest selling points for me when contemplating this laptop. I am an avid gamer, and needed something that could run the gamut of Low spec'd online MOBA's like League of Legends and World of Tanks, while also being able to kick it up a notch and run Starcraft II Deus Ex, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3. It also runs Medieval Total War, Starcraft: Brood War, Sins of the Solar Empire, Dragon Seige, etc just fine. The "Super Hybrid Engine" works like a charm, able to hinder the CPU to a manageable usage when away from the power cord for a while (I don't bring my power cord to my work shifts or college classes, preferring to keep the laptop on "Quiet Office" mode"), but when it comes to game time, at a press of the button my Laptop is ready to shred some 3d polygon effects. The combination of light weight/ Awesome Batter / and Dedicated GPU is an awesome trifecta.

Battery Life: 8 hours on battery saving (low CPU cycles, screen set to dim, no GPU usage, no or low sounds, using Office or surfing the web). I find that I usually get about 6 hours of "practical usage", meaning I might go to faster CPU cycles when checking out a video or loading a mess of tabs on chrome (doing research for school of course ;), as well as medium brightness on the screen (squinting is bad) and rather heavy Wireless usage, maybe being plugged in to a projector to make a presentation, Spotify running in the background while I am typing. Etc. Basically being your normal semi ADD college student living life. The ability to switch between usage, and the convenient "use the power button as a hibernate button" is very useful. The laptop starts up quickly (good ASUS bloatware management plus windows 7), so don't fear to keep it slept from walking to class to another, or even if you know you aren't going to be touching your laptop for awhile in class: quizes, taking notes, tired of checking facebook in calculos (lol). BUT the best aspect of the awesome ASUS battery, is that if needs be, I can put in a couple hours of intense gaming time if my clan and I feel the need to play a few rounds of League of Legends between class periods. Yes, 2 hours, full specs, graphics doing its thing. Its a nice option, when you know that you won't be punishing the battery the rest of the day. I once watched two Harry Potter movies (2 and 3), and realized that I had watched both movies without plugging in: I had brought out the charger, but never connected. TLDR on the battery: runs like its netbook cousins, with also the ability to do some intensive game if needs be.

Weight: I'm a college student, I'm walking around all day, and I don't got cubby holes, a home room, and I sure as heck ain't gonna roll a bag around like I'm in an airport. The U36 has a permanent home in the laptop holder in the comfortable Burton backpack, and everything else my hectic college day needs fits comfortably with it. It was a struggle before to be lugging my over-sized dell, and my unnecessarily heavy acer before that. Sometimes I swear the u36 isn't even there (oh no!), but I open my bag up, and there she is, ready for action. Like I said before about the trifecta, Dedicated GPU / Battery life / Light weight allows the u36 to be a very adaptable and mobile solution to a myriad of technological needs. Portable word processor. Mobile gaming rig. Media center. Just your regular old laptop. Business Commuters will also appreciate the minimal weight as well (though might care less about the GPU;), but as mentioned before, the battery is a heavy hitter (has to be to do all the powering it does). Also, being able to hold up your laptop with one hand if in an awkward sitting situation is just something you'd never be able to do with any other semi-gaming rig.

Asus Design: I have been a fan of the Asus design model for quite sometime. My netbook is an ASUS. My android tablet is an ASUS. And now my Primary Laptop is one. You can come to expect solid design with the Asus lines, with both software and hardware. Most asus bloatware is easy to remove, and I feel like most of the essential ones run very reliably. Track pad software, power management software, hybrid processor software, all very dependable. The physical design is very industrial and practical but very beautiful as well. Matte black with glowing blue lights is the motiff, and I still sometimes just stop to look at my laptop and think "Beautiful". The Aluminum Magnesium alloy used for the screen shell allows the screen to be lighter and thinner, and the matte black plastic used for the rest of it is ideal as well. BTW little plug: Aluminum Magnesium sounds cool, and feels amazing. I want ASUS to create a unibody style laptop using this material. I am in love with it, and it is smudge and scratch resistant, as well as having a high tensil to weight ratio. I love the Chiclets style keyboard, though I am somewhat bugged by a lack of right FN Buttons (I adapted) plus having "home/pg up/pg dn/ and end" on the right side of the keyboard is unfortunate. I'd rather those be FN arrow keys, instead of the useless Windows Media Player keys that replaced them. The Media hot keys cannot be reassigned to other programs btw. Fail on that Asus. But other then those small quirks (I am a creative writing minor, so I spend a lot of time banging out papers) it is a beautiful and well laptop. I have read reviews that claim that the track pad is of inferior quality compared to other laptop lines in its category, but I admit I usually use a portable mouse (gamer), and this is the most responsive and accurate track pad I have used intensively (the one on my Dell was hopeless). Other things worth mention. Built in webcam is respectable (might be great for all I know, I just needed it for skype). Keyboard has no flex, keyboard is a joy to type on. usb ports are just a little shallower then normal, meaning that usb devices stick out just a little, which is a little weird. USB 3.0 is an awesome blessing, soon becoming a norm. Power cable uses a 90 bent on the left side of the laptop, meaning running the wire behind the laptop, around to the right side, and dropping it below from the left side are all viable options (Dell, why you use a straight wire running from the right side, ACER, who you use a bent from the back? DUMB DUMB design choices). Bluetooth is reliable and is one button accessible. Same with wireless card (n by the way). HDMI port seems like a natural choice on the upper right hand side, VGA port on the left upper side. built in card reader and audio in and out on the middle of the right side. It is obvious that ASUS did not just slap the ports on randomly, but thought of the logical use these would go through, and placed them logistically and ergonomically. Only gripe. Audio ports on the same side as the mouse is a little odd, but either use a bent 90 cord, or use bluetooth. The other choice would have been the fire hot exhaust grill, so I am grateful for that (sorry left handers, that will be an issue). NOTE ASUS: Move vent to back of unit. Somehow.

Specs: For under 1k, the specs of the U36 are really competitive. I hate throwing around the word "macbook killer", but one cannot help but think that this was ASUS's goal in the design of this laptop. Combined with all the features mentioned above, the u36 (I feel) holds it ground, and fills the same niche, as the macbook pro. Think what you will, but since this is my review, I will state my personal predilections on the matter: I dislike the mac OS, and I like the adaptability and control of both software and hardware that the windows platform offers. I don't own an ipod, nor an iphone or ipad, I hate the itunes player, and I dislike the mac marketing image (I feel the hardware is great, but macs try to appeal to hipsters and "fight against big corporations" crowd while being the biggest corporation out there). Ever since the departure of Jobs from the Apple corporation, I have found very little saving grace in the company as a whole, except for selling over priced trendy items. Preaching done. The asus specs are great, does the job, and the ram is upgradable from the onboard 4gb to the 8gb (ironically, it uses the same ram as the macbook, so it is plentiful, cheap, and reliable). Think of it as comparable to a 13" macbook in terms of performance, but with gaming power running natively, and without having to join the icult. i52410m, 2.3GHZ. 640 GBs of HDD.

Screen: Lets be honest, the screen is physically "half" the laptop, so it is a big deal, and I love the one on the U36. It has amazing viewing angles, 1366 by 768 native resolution is quite mint. Yes, some laptops in the same class have better resolution, but lets be honest: its a 13" screen, how much more are you going to push it. If you are using this primarily to feed to a HD tv... um why? Better way to spend 900 dollars bud. Between Asus giving me a better resolution, but also adding another 200 dollars to the equation, I saw pass. Colors are vibrant, and with the Hybrid Super Engine and the Nvidia 520, videos and games come out clean. More plugs for the Aluminum Magnesium (sigh).

BOTTOM LINE: Why did I just spend the last hour writing a review for this laptop? Because I think it is the best purchase I have made in a very long time. In the interim period, I have been streaming music as well as running my screen on bright, and still got ::checking:: 5 hours of battery left. Its been powered up for the last 2 hours already. It has not been turned off for the past 2 days and 23 hours, and it is stable and smooth still. It has run the gamut of projecting a math presentation, watching videos, writing a 10 page paper, heavy internet surfing, video streaming, rounds of online and offline gaming, spotify listening, and a little bit of skype thrown in as well. The unit is stable and well made, and with specs that are competitive, extremely so when considering its weight range. Size, spec, weight, and battery life make it optimal for a very mobile college student that probably doesn't have a permanent work desk, and most likely does most his homework in front of the tv on the couch anyway. Also, being able to use it in classrooms that have the claustrophobic chair and table combos is a great plus. Plus, rocking the HD videos or GPU intensive games in whichever random lounge or room you are in without having to grab your power cord is just a dream. So, if you aren't a big fan of the macbook, but need comparable specs, weight, and construction value, the Asus u36SD really is your baby of choice.

This is an amazing little machine. I've owned a lot of notebooks over the past 15 years and though we've had it for only a week this one is probably already my favorite. It's basically the first notebook I've had that doesn't require any compromises.

Most important points:

Ultraportable. 3.5 pounds, only .75 inches thick. It's literally only a bit larger than an actual spiral notebook, and about the weight of a small textbook. It's basically as portable as any netbook or MacBook Air.

Powerful. iCore 5 sandy-bridge processor is state of the art and a significant advance over the previous generation. While there are a few more powerful processors out there, this one will handle everything you throw at it, including video encoding and editing. It also has a dedicated GPU and video RAM which means it's good for playing almost any PC game you want at good frame rates (even if you can't use all the highest settings).

Endurance. We are finally seeing all-day level battery life in powerful laptops and the U36SD is a good example. My wife and I have been getting about 7-8 hours of life on it while doing standard work with full brightness on.

These are the most important considerations for notebooks, as far as I'm concerned. If you never plan on moving your computer, get a desktop and save tons of money, but if you really want a notebook, then size and weight should be very important factors. It's amazing to find netbook like portability and battery endurance in a notebook that could be a desktop replacement machine for an avid PC gamer.

Other Pros:

1376x768 resolution is pretty much standard on 15" laptop screens, but again can be found here in a much more portable package.

Nice build quality. Not as nice as the Mac uni-body, but not far behind either. Feels tight, well constructed.

Textured metal case. Pleasing to the touch, stays relatively clean and finger print free, minimal flex to machine.

Nice keyboard and track pad. Both are big and pleasing to use. Chicklet style keys.

I have a few caveats on the machine as well. Obviously it lacks an optical drive which is a minor inconvenience at times, but also means you are not lugging it around all the time. The Toshiba x835 notebook is very similar to the U36SD, the main difference being they have kept the optical drive, but left out the dedicated GPU. For my money you can always get an external optical drive for only 25 bucks but you'll never be able to get a dedicated GPU added, so the U36SD makes more sense, but some may prefer the optical drive.

Other Cons:

Big power brick. I've seen bigger (that's what she said), but really for such a thoughtfully designed machine to have included such a clunky accessory seems like ASUS tripped as they were crossing the finish line. Apple obviously is way ahead of PC makers in this category.

No back-lit keyboard. Definitely would be nice for typing in low-light situations

Minor annoyances: Bloatware, and did not come with 2 finger scroll turned on. Was able to fix both situations, but it was a bit annoying. One piece of bloatware requests that we insert a DVD-R into the drive to backup windows, which is clearly not well thought-out on a machine that has no optical drive. The glossy screen reduces the viewing angle of the picture a bit.

None of this is enough to take away any stars, however. The notebook is simply too good at the most important considerations. The only thing I cannot comment on is how long it will last as we have only had it for a week now, but so far, we are very happy with it.

(Read the whole thing to see how my feelings changed)

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago, and it has been amazing. First of all, everything about it is beautiful. Just completely gorgeous. It is bold, but yet sleek and elegant and really attracts attention. It really is the most gorgeous laptop I've ever seen.

If you are on the fence between this one and the slightly cheaper black one with 8GB of ram, go for the white if you like the style better (To me, it looks worlds nicer). 6GB is a very nice amount of ram and it isn't as though ram is outrageously expensive to upgrade if you really want 8GB. I am a photographer who uses very high quality DSLR photos and makes flash animations that slowed down my other computer, but this one handles them like they are nothing. The display is beautiful and perfect for movie watching. In fact, in my family, we all have laptops, but we always use mine to watch movies now because it is so clear. Finally, for those of you who are gamers, it handles my favorite MMORPG like a dream. It really is the perfect laptop for all three activities.

Another thing I didn't even know when I bought it was that it can connect with your Bluetooth capable phone and play music from it.

The lit keyboard is a lot of fun and the ability to launch the web in a matter of seconds using a single button is pure genius. It's perfect for times when you're rushing.

Now, being completely honest, there are 2 things I'm not thrilled with when it comes to this laptop, but they aren't deal-breakers:

#1. The sound system is pretty bad. Maybe that is because I have a Bose system in my car, that I'm a film major, or that I'm a pianist, but I'm pretty accustomed to high quality sound. The sound system from this sounds very tinny. So, I found a solution; I purchased the Logitech lap desk with a fan (it doesn't overheat or anything like that, I'm just paranoid because my first laptop did...) and a speaker system and connected that to it (it is also white, so the combo looks pretty sweet) and the sound is now top notch. So, I'm VERY satisfied. My laptop stays cool, even while I'm doing highly taxing things like gaming and my sound is now fantastic.

#2. I have no idea what in the world that part is called, but the part you drag your finger over in order to move the arrow. I don't feel as though it responds as well as my last laptop's did (it was a Toshiba Satellite), and yes, I have already placed it on maximum sensitivity. So, I simply purchased a mouse so I don't have to deal with it. (I must admit it does have a few neat features, though. Like the ability to scroll by moving your finger in a spiral shape, but sometimes it would take me like 3 times to get it to work... I hear a lot of people like this, so maybe it's just me...)

Other than those two items, literally everything else is top notch. Very beautiful craftsmanship. Sleek design. Fast. Looks even better than in the photos. You will not be disappointed with this laptop. Sony has truly outdone themselves.

Pair it with 17 inch White Notebook Laptop Shoulder Messenger Bag / Carry on Briefcase, the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700, a white mouse, and a black mouse pad and you are ready to go.

Therefore, 5 stars. It is the perfect all-around laptop. And classy to boot.

Feb 21, 2012 Edit:

As of this writing, I'd give it 3/5 Stars with a title of " If I had known ":

First thing I want to talk about is the lower left-hand corner. It melts. No joke. There is a light over there, and one day, it suddenly looked like I'd dropped it. Which, considering I'm a gadget person and pride myself in having the most stylish of gadgets, is mortifying. I'm literally known by all my friends and coworkers and members of my church to be a gadget person! I've had to explain to so many people that that corner heats up and separated itself from the bottom part of the laptop. Ack...

If you closely inspect it, you can see it is not possible that it could be from being dropped, but it has to be from some internal overheating issue. That didn't change the functionality of the laptop, but I'd think twice if you tend to sell your laptop after a year or two of use. I can't remember while I'm writing this when I purchased this laptop, but my review will show that date...

At first, I thought it was my fault, until I went on eBay and found the same exact laptop with the same exact bend in the same exact spot. This is a defect. If I'd known that was going to happen, maybe I'd have done something to cool down that corner or whatever... But I don't know how anyone would have known...

Next, the Blu-ray player doesn't work. I also have an iPad, and got used to watching movies on it, so I never bothered to try the Blu-Ray player (though I had played DVDs, which were fine.) I finally got around to putting in a Blu-Ray disc, and it won't play. I tried everything. I went to Sony's site, and tried their fixes, downloaded VLC media player, restarted the computer... I wonder if it ever worked...

Sony customer service stinks to high heaven. About a year after I got the laptop, it couldn't find Windows. Then, I started having problems with logging in, where it would not be able to bring up my desktop. I learned how to fix this, though (go to safe mode and stop all but the essential programs from booting up at startup.) That may be a Windows problem, though... Nevertheless, before I knew how to fix it, I called Sony for help and they ended up installing this diagnostic program on my computer and using all this non-specific jargon to creatively not tell me what my problem was. Then, they wanted to charge me over a hundred bucks to fix this one issue. I declined and did more researched and learned how to fix it myself. It took me 5 min to fix it once I knew what I was doing. Talk about taking advantage...

I've been asked before why I didn't just sell it and get a Macbook. Here is why I still own and use this laptop:

It is still fast. Though I got it a bit ago, compared to what's out there, it is still powerful and modern and will be for likely a couple more years. It still does the work I bought it to do and still does it well. I even refer to it as my "powerhouse"

Macbook Pros go up to 15 inches nowadays. This laptop is 16.4 inches. I like the extra room.

The Mac is 21 or 25 inches and then they have a 27 inch model, I think. But, it isn't portable. I can take this laptop with me.

A Macbook with this kind of power would run me double what I paid for this laptop. Despite my frustrations, the price was right. Not to mention, I've long since paid off this laptop.

It looks better. Not that the Macbook or Mac is ugly or anything, but this VAIO is stylish. It just looks better.

Overall:

I'd still recommend this laptop, but never for an amateur user. Function-wise, if you don't rely on the Blu-Ray player (like I tend not to, I just randomly was handed a Blu-Ray to watch, otherwise, I likely never would have noticed the Blu-Ray player had issues) and you have the technological know-how or research skills to help yourself when there are problems, and you do not intend to sell it for anything even remotely close to what you have to spend to get it, you'll be fine. If even one of those does not apply to you, skip it.

Ah yes, and one more thing. It is a white laptop, so expect it to get dirty.

This laptop is fast, plays full hd videos, blu ray, has an amazing keyboard layout, has a great screen, the sound is loud, and it plays most games on med-high settings. Compared to other similar gaming machines, this one is a better deal! You get it all. The only downsides are the battery and weight. It dies pretty fast, usually lasts me a good 2-4 hours with heavy browsing and viewing videos. Of course it lasts longer just doing basic things. When trying to carry the laptop with one hand, it is pretty darn heavy. This laptop also looks very stylish. I would recommend this to everyone! I also have one suggestion: Never use this laptop when your hands are dirty with ink. IT WILL STAIN! And if you are a perfectionist like me, you will be pretty upset.

I had this laptop for just over a year. Didn't buy extended warranty. I used it approximately less than 3 months total. When the year was over, the video graphics card and the LCD screen both died. Sony support calculated minimum $600 to fix/replace parts with new + to/from shipping cost. I would not buy a Sony laptop again nor recommend them.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO(R) VPCF22SFX/W Signature Series 16.4" Notebook PC - White

The laptop has awesome hardware characteristics, the screen is really good and has a high resolution.

However, the overall design of the laptop is ugly.

The keyboard is backlit, but the slits between the keys and the base are too big, so the white LEDs are shining right in your eyes.

The plastic gets all stained with fingerprints from a single touch.

The dotted touchpad is annoying I prefer the smooth sliding and don't get why one has to put in extra force to fight the friction.

The touchpad is not sensitive enough I can't move the pointer from one side of the screen to the other in a single go.

The left/right mouse buttons are too far away from each other, so you can't use them both with the same finger.
