I have always enjoyed the Asus products and this one is no different. It is light weight, easy to use and transport. Loaded with software to get off to a good start.

The screen is incredible. I have an ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-XB72, a MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and an iPad, etc., and my Zenbook's screen is the most vibrantly colored and sharpest display in the world. The SSD is so fast. I have no wait time (except IE haha). Seriously I love this machine for my work, travel and personal play.

This is a great laptop for the price. It's fast, the picture is clear and I love the number key pad on the right side. My only complaint was the sound. There isn't much volume and the sound was weak and tinny. That was easily fixed with a $29.00 Gigaware speaker I bought at Radio Shack that sits on top of your open laptop. The sound is incredible for $30 and it plugs in with a USB cord. I would recommend this computer and this speaker.

Beware! The Intel wireless display feature is not available although it is advertised as such for this model. I purchased the Netgear push2tv adapter and it was a waste. I called Sony Vaio support and they took a long time to tell me that this feature is not available on this model and the software cannot be installed as the hardware is not compatible. So do no waste your time if you are buying this computer for this feature. There are other ways to stream wirelessly to your TV, but Intel wireless display is not one of them for this computer.

I bought this laptop from a local Sony store 20 months ago for about $700. Sony was a good brand when I made this purchase. However I hesitate to purchase any Sony product after the bad experience.

I used the computer about 5 hours a day. Good part is that this computer is fairly fast, as long as you take good care of it. And the battery is still good today. However, the following problems caused the low rating:

1. The surface is made of very low quality plastic. You can scratch it using your T-shirt (and I mean it).

2. The video card is not compatible with the system. It even tells you so when you check the device manager.

3. The touch pad started to fail frequently after 10 month (and I use a mouse 90% of time).

4. The fan started to fail (and cause the fail of system) frequently after 11 month.

5. The microphone broke down after 11 month (and I use it about 1 hour every month).

The customer service was all right when I asked them to change the touch pad and fan. However, when the third problem showed up (the computer was still under warranty then), they refused to get it fixed for free anymore. What's worse, now both the fan and touch pad started to fail again with exactly the same symptom. I am pretty much convinced that those components were designed to last for only one year. And they won't only be installed on this particular model.

I won't give things up unless they are absolutely unbearable. But writing this review is the last thing I do with this computer.

Great laptop in terms of price. The battery life is not great only at 3 hr 20 mins. The multi touch mouse is great. overall great price value.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO VPC-EB33FM/BJ 15.5" Notebook (2.4GHz Intel Core i3-370M

I love this laptop. It's fast, durable and still feels like a new laptop after almost a year of ownership. I say this because after owning an Acer Aspire laptop for a year, it felt so outdated and slow that I had to upgrade.

The keyboard is great and so is the touchpad; except, that the tiny bumps on the touchpad have a flat stop in the middle now.

The screen is nice a clear as well as very bright. Wifi on this is better than most laptops as I can get WIFI from 5th floor in a old concrete building in Chicago! (My n320 netbook can barely see the signal and I get 4 bars with this SONY)

Pros: light, fast, keyboard feels good, big screen, and has a built-in 10 key.

Cons: touch pad keeps moving the cursor while I type, glossy screen

produces too much glare, the "delete" button is too small, battery life is weak.

Verdict: I'd rather buy a Lenovo Thinkpad

I've used the Thinkpad many years before getting the VAIO and I liked

it a lot, because it had the matte screen (less glare) and I didn't have any

problems with the touch pad; I disabled the touch pad and used the nipple. The main downside of the Thinkpad is that it doesn't have a built-in 10 key.

Just received my new DV6-7014nr (not DV6-7000 as shown on the website) and I am amazed with this machine. For half the price of a Retina display MacBook Pro, you get a machine that meets or beats every aspect of the Apple. If you want to pay for the Apple logo, get the MacBook. If you want serious value for your money, get the HP DV6-7014nr. The July, 2012 issue of Consumer Reports rates it higher than the MacBook Pro (an $1,800 Samsung was number 1, HP DV6-7014nr #2 and MacBook Pro #3). Only one problem with this computer It will not hook up to 5G wireless, only 2.4 and lower. If this is important to you, go with some other machine or custom build the DV6-7000t at the HP website to include a wireless card that hooks up to 5G. Be prepared to pay a bit more money to purchase a custom order direct from HP, plus a couple of weeks (or more) to receive it from them.

Note: This is not exactly the same laptop, but the closest one I could find on Amazon. The processor, video, display, and keyboard all appear to be the same.

When I got this computer, I was looking for a laptop I could use for on-site software development. It has exceeded expectations in almost every way. Here is a breakdown of the components I chose and a few notes:

* i7-3610QM Processor: This processor does nearly as well as my desktop i7-2600k.

* NVIDIA 650M w/2GB: I am able to play Skyrim on Ultra settings. So far every game I have wanted to play has worked very well.

* 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive w/ 32GB mSSD: I have this on my desktop as well and as a result boot times and app start up seem faster. This is very subjective.

* 6 cell + 9 cell Battery: The 6 cell battery sits flush with the bottom of the laptop. The 9 cell battery protrudes from the bottom forming a stand of sorts.

* 15.6" Full HD display (1920 x 1080): This is one of the best displays I have seen on a laptop. It is hard to find a full HD display on a 15" laptop these days. I love the matte finish because it doesn't reflect everything behind you. It is crisp and bright.

* HP TrueVision HD Webcam: This is a run-of-the-mill camera, but works well.

* Backlit Keyboard: This is a must for use during presentations or in dark areas. It took me awhile to find the fn-f5 combination to turn it on.

Here are the Windows Experience performance scores:

Processor: 7.6

Memory: 7.6

Graphics: 7.1

Gaming Graphics: 7.1

Primary HDD: 5.9

I have high expectations and this computer has delivered.

UPDATE: Bought this laptop January 21, 2013 and on April 1st it crashed. I've spent the last five days, about 20+ hours, talking with India and the Philippines HP technical support call centers about this machine. First it was to blame Windows and to back-up and do a total system restore. Then the restore partition is to blame because of Microsoft, and then after waiting for a Fed Ex of 3 System Recovery DVDs and ran those and then got another "blue screen of death" about memory, ran another diagnostic and the memory is bad. Last THREE HOURS on three calls with HP and they will now send a box to pick this expensive boat anchor up and in 2-3 weeks I MAY have a working system back. Oh, I paid $350 for the premier HP care pack with in-house repair, but they think it's the actual machine and not the chip, so why waste another five days to get someone out to fix what will need to go back anyways.

I bought a $2K laptop in 2005 from HP and in 2 years it was replaced four (4) times... this is an eery and familiar situation I am in with HP once again...

Stuck with a $1,100 machine, $350 premier warranty and a broken turd of a notebook that I may get back in 2-3 weeks. UGH!

I've had this laptop for only about 24 hours and I've grown to love it! The 2 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA Graphics card plays every game I've thrown at it on MAX settings at 40+ FPS (using Fraps). Every category of the Windows Experience Index is 7.0 + except for the Hard Drive which is only at a 5.9 (you can upgrade to SSD if you want a maxed out Laptop). Statistically speaking, this is one of the most powerful laptops on the market right now. I highly recommend it to every Tech Geek/Gamer/Laptop Enthusiast out there.

A few pros and cons I've noted

I purchased this hp pavillion sleekbook on black Friday at staples which costed me 299.99. Its not bad, very light and the windows 8 os is very responsive with the sleekbook touchpad. Note this computer does not come with a touch screen and no cd rom drive. It comes with bells and whistles like bluetooth hd webcam and 3 hour battery for internet use. Off internet the battery last for 4 hours. Last an hd screen display. This is a decent laptop if your looking to do productivit and lite media editing and nothing to heavy. I dong give 5 stars but I will only give it a 4 stars.

Not too impressed with Windows 8. I really miss the "start" button. However, that's a Microsoft issue, not HP. The integrated camera works well, no problems with any of the video features kids constantly watching Youtube. Extra USB slot is nice comes with 3. Miss a DVD drive for the kids, but most of the movies they watch today are digital downloads. I actually bought two of these one for each son. Very satisfied, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the missing DVD drive.

This is my second HP laptop and I am not at all disappointed. I Thought I saw the separate number pad but it is not in this laptop, which is ok, because this laptop is super! It is very light compared to my last one and very sleek look. The camera works well. The set up is easy. Still working on what the life of battery is [I am doing a personal study with multiple trials to do this, I will update later]. The sound is crisp and clear but still not loud [kinda a bummer]. The Bluetooth is great! I much more prefer the Bluetooth capabilities than a CD/DVD drive [which doe snot come with this model]. The description clearly states there is no CD/DVD so be advised. Plus the only negative review on this product is simply that of someones own mistake(s) when shopping. The Bluetooth is easy to set up and use. I enjoy sending pictures to the computer from my phone, using the computer as a speaker phone while I am doing my homework or taking quizzes. This allows me to just connect via cell phone and jam instead of taking extra effort to upload music or even popping in a CD [which cannot happen with this model :P ] It is just conveniently. Love this product.

For clarification: This is my second HP in 5 years. This was not a product or brand problem, the brand has been wonderful to me so far! [the story:] My other one was plugged in at the kitchen table so I could work on a final paper and watch my kids paint and when I was getting them their drinks my oldest son tripped over the cord and I was unable to brace the fall and my previous laptop screen shattered beyond use. It was a suck fest. I have tried a few other brands only to be an angry/psycho scholar who had been screwed during finals/midterms [that happened 3 times]. SO I am biased towards HP now, simply because they have provided me with great products :)

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion 14-b031us Sleekbook 14.0in Laptop (Intel Pentium

This 14-b031 Sleekbook is light and nimble on its feet. After using it for a couple of months a more balanced review can be given. Facing the new learning curve of Windows 8 focused my attention on the operating system rather than the computer. Once Windows 8 had been learned the Sleekbook has some neat and nimble features. First the weight is much lighter than my former laptop. This makes it nice to travel with. Open the lid and it starts up very quickly. The smaller 14" screen has been no hindrance. The keyboard is nice too, it seems just right. It never seems to run hot in my lap with HP Coolsense. It is my hope that I never have to use the HP Protect Smart for dropping it. However, packing a laptop around increases the risk of being dropped. The general features of being light weight, price, and amble work capacity, makes it an all around machine that does all I need to do.

I'm really pleased with the purchase of this laptop. One thing to realize is that it's not the fastest or thinnest/lightest laptop out there. It's pretty much a standard laptop, with modest specs, but it does all many of the functions that a basic computer user out there is looking for.

Pros:

Nice keyboard chicklet style, easy to type on

Touchpad response is smooth and easy to use (note: see con on touchpad below)

Good screen clarity

Speedy enough for most tasks (internet, word processing)

Wireless connection was strong, fast

Fan is quiet and unobtrusive

Doesn't get very hot when on your lap

Cons:

Case design very basic (rubberized?) and not all that attractive

Touchpad button is stiff Hard to push

Too much HP software installed Some of this will appeal to the novice user who may like all the toolbars, picture managers, dvd players, and software update programs installed.

At first it seemed as if the screen was a bit blurry, but then I realized it was the opening HP setup window that looked bad. It's not designed for the optimal screen resolution of the LCD panel. I don't know why HP doesn't fix this, as it's the 2nd time that I've noticed this on HP laptops. The screen looks nice in Windows 7.

I'll try and update this review a bit more once I have more time with the laptop, including battery life.

Overall, a nice machine in this price range. You can find similar specs across the board with the different manufactures of laptops, but this would be a quality choice.

You need to understand where I'm coming from my most recent computer was running a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. That being said this computer is a significant step up, and I think it's great. I think it's also important to know what I'm using this computer for....I work in a hospital and use this to log on to the hospital system, use Microsoft Office, and surf the internet. For these applications this computer is perfect. I've had it for about 1 month and have had no issues. It does come loaded with a bunch of HP software which can be uninstalled so that's not a problem.

The battery is listed as 4 hrs...it probably doesn't last that long I haven't officially timed the battery life but it's probably closer to 3 hrs. The case is plastic, the cold startup time is fast

I own a similar computer which has served me well, hence, the ordering of this unit. Asus has a superior warranty ( one year covering drops, spills, power surges and fire damage ) included with all notebooks, no extra charge.

The A53 series has an aluminum inner case which is always cool to the touch, unlike other lap-tops which I have used. The touch-pad is VERY sensitive and some reviewers recommend disabling it when using a mouse.

I do wish that the key-board was under-lit ; it is difficult to see in low-light situations.

This unit came with a defective space-bar key, which works only when squarely struck dead-center and which defect I have found to be a noted in other on-line reviews of similar units.

My over-all experience was a positive one, so far as dealing with Amazon, and even though it was my first purchase through them, it still seemed a simple enough process.

If not for the factory defect, I would have probably given my experience with this Amazon purchase a full 5 stars.

*** UPDATE REGARDING WARRANTY REPAIR SERVICE ***

I sent the unit to ASUS to have it repaired. Shipped on a Tuesday ; notified it had been received on Fri. the same week, in Ca. (I live in Ga); it was repaired and shipped back to me . . . . received it back in Ga. on Wed. 8 days after I had originally shipped it. I believe that they were primed and ready to repair what I had come to understand was potentially a "generic" type defect and so the exceptional turn-around.

No additional problems. I have up-graded my initial rating of three stars, to a four star rating based on the exceptional warranty repair and shipping turn around of 8 days total . . . . from sending it to them, to receiving it fed-exed back to my driveway.

REPAIRS MADE : KEYBOARD REPLACED

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

There were many things to like about this product, but the functionality of the keyboard made it unusable.

Things I found that I liked:

Battery life probably average for this class machine

Software load: Not loaded with bloatware

Fit and Finish: Good sturdy aluminum frame

Ran cool and relatively silently compared to an older laptop

Nice clear display

Performance: Acceptable but not significantly better than a four year old laptop based on my light workload requirements(spreadsheets, Word processing, Internet browsing, email) with up to perhaps six sessions running at once.

The thing that made it totally unacceptable:

Keyboard: chiclet style keyboard (found on more laptops these days) without a good tactile feel. Big issue was that my space bar key strikes would be missed about three times for each line of text typed. I found my hands cramped up while trying to position them in such a way that my key strikes would be registered. I worked with it for three weeks, then finally gave up and returned it.

I purchased another Asus machine a few weeks earlier as a gift (Asus 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 320 GB Hard Drive-Model X54C-BBK19) for just under $300 and had a totally different experience after having the opportunity to work on it from time to time. It had an Intel I3 processor and only a 300GB drive (vs. an I5 processor and 500GB drive on this unit for a cost of around $450), The keyboard and general operation of the cheaper laptop was superlative. It ran quieter, while just as fast and the keyboard was totally different with no problems what so ever. A big factor in my purchase of both machines was that they both came loaded with Windows 7.

What I learned with this experience was how important the keyboard was to my satisfaction level with a laptop.

I purchased this laptop for my daughter in order for her to do a on line college course. Within 45 days the plug on the machine broke. I sent it off and had it repaired. The company did a pretty fast repair. I told them of another defect on the machine that was the keyboard doesn't type all the right letters. They did not repair this. My daughter gets by with it. She purchased another laptop when this one was in the shop and between the two she can do her school work.

Honest reviews on Asus A53E-IS51 15.6" Notebook Computer, Intel Core i5-2450m 2.5GHz

I like the computer but the trackpad is too sensitive or something. I am always getting into some kind of zoom screen or scroll all the time. Other than that, for the price, it has everything I need. The camera is a little slow....that could be my connection though. I like the 10-key pad. I had to get used to typing on the left side of keyboard, but that only took a couple of days. So far so good. I have had it for over 3 months now.

I upgraded to this model (early 2011 Quad Core i7 17" MacBook Pro) from the first in Apple's series of "unibody" laptops (late 2008 Core 2 duo 15" MacBook Pro). Both have been excellent laptops and have remarkably similar features given the years between them. However, what makes the difference here is pure raw speed.

The i7 processor has four cores each running at 2.2Ghz and the ability to "hyperthread" to operate in a virtual eight core mode. Applications must be written in a specific way to take full advantage of the multiple cores, however the processor has another trick up its sleeve in such cases. If some of the cores are underutilized then the processing speed of the those in use are bumped up. This translates into blazing speed across the board.

Other improvements include automatic switching between the two included (and upgraded) video processors, one for high performance and the other for economic power consumption. A new "Thunderbolt" port is provided, which permits extremely high-speed data transmission to and from external devices (as soon as they become available with this new standard!). This is in addition to the more familiar set of ports, including gigabit ethernet, Firewire 800, USB2.0, digital audio in/out, analog audio in/out, magsafe power, etc.

While this laptop may not physically appear to be a new model, I feel this is an advantage unto itself. This being my second unibody mac, I can attest that Apple has a brilliant case design that needs no modification. One needs only to pick it up to immediately feel the solid build quality and ruggedness despite its thin and relatively lightweight specs. The body is carved from a solid block of aluminum, and save for the back plate there are no visible seams or screws. There is a world of difference between this and most other plastic laptops.

Unfortunately Apple has decided to saddlebag this wicked-fast tank with a relatively pokey 5400rpm hard drive, which ends up being a noticeable bottleneck in performance at startup and other disk-intensive times. I appreciate the capacity of the included 750GB drive, but swapping it out with my existing 500GB solid state hybrid drive provided an additional performance boost well worth the reduced storage space. Incidentally, changing just about any of the internal components appears to be relatively straight forward, as the back plate removes to expose all.

To conclude, this is one speedy machine who's only noticeable flaw is the included large but unimpressive hard drive. Swap it out for a faster drive (especially a SSD) and this is a laptop that cannot be topped.

INTRODUCTION

Deciding on which size MacBook Pro one "needs" can be a fun and bewildering process. When I went into an Apple Store, I quite literally found myself envisioning a particular niche need for each of their MacBook Air 11", 13", MacBook Pro 13", 15", and 17" models!

In the end, I decided that the MBP 13" screen was too small for my needs and although the i5 and i7 CPUs in the MBP 13" were significantly faster than the previous generation CPUs, they actually underperformed the previous generation in their graphics intensive applications as the integrated Intel GPU was not as robust as the older generation MBP 13" models.

That left the MBP 15" and 17" models with screen sizes suitable for my needs. The MBP 15" is offered in either the 2.0 vs 2.2 gHz i7 speeds and only the 2.2 gHz model comes with the discrete graphics (i.e. AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory).

Considering that the price difference between the MBP 15" with the 2.2 gHz i7 (with AMD 6750M GPU) and the MBP 17" was not as great as I expected, I went with the MBP 17".

PROS

1. Amazingly light for a laptop of its size (i.e. 6.6 lbs). In many ways, it is the perception of weight and size that matters more than the actual measurements. I own a 2008 MBP 15" which is 1.1 lbs lighter, and yet this MBP 17" actually seemed lighter, because of its larger dimensions confined within a thickness of less than 1".

2. Fantastically bright, beautiful LCD. The viewing angles vertically and horizontally are fantastic (and something Apple owners take for granted anyways).

3. Although the sizes of the individual pixels at full resolution (1920 x 1200) do seem smaller than my 2008 MBP 15", they are not too small for me. The text and graphics are sharp and clear.

4. Pure CPU speed with the i7 quad-core Sandy Bridge 2.2 gHz. I haven't benchmarked this personally, but search online and you will find that this generation MBP is significantly faster than the previous generation models.

5. Separate discrete graphics (i.e. AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory).

6. Phenomenal battery life of 7 hours (using more real-world testing specifications to which Apple has recently changed)

7. Quiet (so far) but I anticipate the fans will turn on with heavy GPU intensive use

8. Great chiclet (i.e. island-style) keys that allow for great tactile feedback to touch typers with lit keys

9. Phenomenal glass track pad that Mac users have come to expect. The OS allows for different finger gestures like pinch and zooming (just like on the iPhone)

10. Amazingly simple and fast setup using Apple's built in migration tools. When I first started the MBP, it allowed me to hook up a FireWire cable to the other MBP and it transferred all my applications, documents, and settings automatically. The transfer of data was amazingly fast, > 300 GB of total data over 2-3 hours!

11. Same great Apple cable management system with the small AC adapter with the interchangeable power cord and MagSafe magnetic connector

12. Same great touches that existed on much older MacBook Pros that you expect, photolight sensor, easy ability and detection of external monitors while remembering the individual relative screen positions so swapping multiple monitors is easier, amazing 1 hour backup intervals using Time Machine, incredibly fast startup and sleep/awake even without a solid state drive, FaceTime camera

13. Mac OS X Snow Leopard with its rock stable UNIX heritage

14. No need for virus check software (so far)

15. New Thunderbolt (i.e. Light Peak) interface via mini-DisplayPort which allows bidirectional 10 Gb/s bandwidth

16. Phenomenal resale value of Apple MBPs when you do need to sell to upgrade later

CONS

1. Before update 10.6.7, there have been reports that when all 4 cores with 8 threads are running, the MBP i7's have been freezing for some users. Supposedly after 10.6.7, most of these issues were solved. I have not yet tested this but there hasn't been any freezing in the short time that I've been using this MBP 17". (Those who have experienced this have reported using a 3rd party utility to select either the discrete or integrated GPU seems to solve the problem.)

2. There have been reports that some models of external LCD displays have had problems as being recognized as TV's rather than computer monitors when attached to the mini-display Thunderbolt connector. It may be more pronounced when using a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (than when using a mini-DP to DVI or mini-DP to HDMI cable).

3. Although Thunderbolt (i.e. Light Peak) seems amazing and is far more revolutionary than USB3 or eSATA, there are no devices that take advantage of this yet. I expect that these devices will also cost a premium for all of us early adopters. Thankfully, there is still a dedicated FireWire 800 port.

4. The MBP in the 17" model does not come with a SecureDigital memory card slot. While the 17" MBP lacks this feature found in the other MBPs, there is an ExpressCard/34 slot as well as a third USB 2.0 port.

CONCLUSION

The MBP 17" has exceeded my expectations and is indeed, like most Apple products, far greater than the sum of its amazing parts.

Best Deals for Apple MacBook Pro MC725LL/A 17-Inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)

The new MacBook Pro (released in 2011) is one of the best computers you can currently buy. The recent hardware improvements have made it a top notch computer.

PROS: VERY fast, up to 8gb of RAM, execellent design, great battery life, great for photo and video editing

CONS: Price is too high, Soild state drives should be default at this price point, warrenty is below the indrustry standard

My only major complaints are the price (which is no shock it's a Mac) and the overall package. For what Apple is charging you should really get at least a 256gb (if not 512) SS Drive included. That would make this one of the best computers available anywhere.

The hardware in this model doesn't just beat the previous versions is crushes them. In under 60 seconds you will be online. I've never owned a PC (or Mac) that loads that fast. The wireless connection is very fast as well. It seems like everything about this Mac is faster. One comparrison I can draw is the time it takes to rip a DVD to the hard drive. With my last MacBook Pro it normally took about 60 minutes to rip a full length movie. With this Mac it takes about 20 minutes.

Some computers have amazing specs. Some computers are sleek and sexy. No computer combines form and function like Apple does.

Honest reviews on Apple MacBook Pro MC725LL/A 17-Inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)

Apple MacBook Pro MC725LL/A 17-Inch Laptop

I waited for Quad core(SandyBridge) based MacbookPro for more than an year. My primary use was for Photo & Video editing and for that, yes dual core system from 2010 would have done the job. But I wanted a powerful machine which could handle future load also so that it lasts longer.

This system is really very powerful. So far it handles all the types of load I could throw at it. If you want to use this system for Video / Photo editing, the first thing I would suggest is to upgrade to a decent SSD(along with 8gb RAM upgrade if you can afford). That really changes things under the hood and its very much visible to you also. Startup, shutdown & Application launch times are significantly improved.

Just to test the drive difference, I imported AVCHD video files & photos combined worth of ~30gb in size from my external hard disk (connected via USB 2.0) into iMovie and iPhoto simultaneously with Chrome playing an YouTube video in the background. I also opened other applications like iTunes,Safari etc to see how far the system can handle the whole load. This test I repeated with both the original 5400rpm hard disk & with my new SSD.

Result? You could really choke the system with the above load, if you have only 5400rpm hard drive installed. Often times when I move the mouse, the mouse pointer actually moved with a noticeable delay. With the SSD installed,I could see the difference through the speed with which the whole thing finished. Not only that, the processor was free to handle few more tasks as well.

One thing that I have to mention here is the noise & heat. With the powerful processor & a Graphics card that comes bundled in this system, under heavy load, the heat could really reach a level where you cant keep the system in your lap any longer. I could not keep it in my laptop, under certain load. To control the heat, the fans are kicking in quite frequently resulting in higher noise. If you are into recording your own voice to mix them with videos, don't sit near the macbook else you can be sure to expect to hear the fan noise as well :) I think some of this can be fine-tuned with software(MacOS X Lion may be??). Till that happens, we cant have everything with this system :(

Overall I am happy with my purchase.

The 17-inch 2011 MBP has a hefty price tag, but for those looking to replace a desktop or in dire need of a true mobile workstation -look no further. The performance beats my BTO 2.93 GHZ i7 27-inch iMac (late 2010), and the high resolution 1920x1200 display is worth the added cost over the high-end 15-inch MBP.

Prior to biting the bullet I was on the fence over whether to get the entry-level or high-end 15-inch model. Unfortunately unless you order from Apple there's no way to add the high-res display (1680x1050). If you are a Final Cut Pro user, this could be important since Color requires the high-res display. Of course you could connect to an auxiliary monitor, but that's another $999 (27-inch Cinema display) -or $399 for a 24-inch IPS HP display.

At the end of the day the difference in price between the 15-inch high-end and the 17-inch was just over $200 (1959 vs 2163 open box 'like-new' Warehouse Deals). In everyday use I would have no problem using the 1440x900 resolution of the 15-inch model, but I really wanted the hig-res option. Ordering the 15-inch top model + high-res option from Apple with a student discount still ended up being more expensive than the 17-inch MBP through Amazon.

I was hesitant about the size and weight. In the store I felt like the 17-inch model would be overkill, but now that I've handled and transported it for a few days I'm not bothered by the size. With that being said, if Amazon was to offer the high-res 15 inch model I would probably opt for that instead since there's little benefit of going from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 in terms of application compatibility.

On a side note, if you are considering a Warehouse deal via Amazon, I highly recommend it -just make sure you choose the 'like-new' model. These things are sealed, brand new with just some minor cosmetic damage to the retail packaging (or possibly none). $2163.99 for the 17-inch MBP is a deal.

The product itself came defective, BSOD'ing twice in the week that I had it. The computer was slow in alt-tabbing between programs that were in full-screen mode, and even worse was slow in loading games such as Battlefield Bad Company 2. I have an ASUS ROG laptop with worse specs than this computer, and it was able to outperform this computer hands down. The only reason I replaced it was because I screwed up the screen, and wanted an Alienware.

There are better for cheaper. Sadly, Alienware has gone downhill since being bought out by Dell. You're better off with a Hewlett-Packard or Toshiba, and I hate both companies with a passion.

By the way, this is nothing bad towards Amazon. They were incredibly helpful with the return information and what-not, and highly recommend Amazon for this type of stuff.

After loading Microsoft Office Professional 2010 + Microsoft Security Essentials I began receiving messages from Microsoft that the version of Windows 7 was not authentic and that Security Essentials would shut down in 30 days in addition to automatic updates all failing. A little phrase above the time on the lower right of the screen appeared and stayed there: "not an authentic version of Windows 7". Since I had already loaded MS office professional 2010(a very expensive program)I was forced to buy an authentic version of Windows 7-and load the authentic product keyBRINGING THE TOTAL COST TO WELL OVER $400.

Over a month later this PC is full of qwirks.

DONT BUY FROM DISHONEST SELLERS LIKE THESE PEOPLE

COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE SELLER REVEALED THAT HE IS BARELY LITERATE.

The Amazon claim process is 99.9% automated and individual issues are not well addressed.

I would not want to return a pc after I loaded MS office and was forced to buy an authentic version of Windows 7. That would be returning a much more valuable product than the one I bought.

I requested a refund for the authentic version of Windows 7. The automated return process is not set up for specific requests and only offered a return.

ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT!!!!
