Reviews of Toshiba Satellite Laptop
This is very fast laptop. Will outrun many brand new laptops. I own it and runs any program flawlessly. Used to be slow with vista but windows 7 broke the chains. It runs anything you throw at it..flawlessly.

Discount Dell XPS 15 CI5/2.4 15.6 6GB 750GB DVDR W7HP 64
My specs: Dell XPS l502x (Purchased May 2011)
Processor: i5 2410M
RAM: 6GB
HDD: 640 gb 7200 hard drive
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Video card: GeForce 540M 2GB
First off: the audio on this model is truly incredible for the price range. The JBL speakers with subwoofer make it unnecessary to have to plug your laptop in to external speakers for almost any situation (except of course... parties and what have you). In fact, you'd truly be hard pressed to find better audio quality in a laptop even now. The new Lenovo y410 and y510 models do come with JBL speakers, however they are not of the same quality.
The keyboard is comfortable for my usage, since I have fairly large hands. I have heard that some people complain about the spacing between keys, but honestly... unless you have tiny fingers I don't really understand how it's an issue.
The screen quality is pretty good for the price and resolution.
Now for the bad.. well, horrible.
The battery quality is horribly sub par; the 9cell battery I purchased with the unit barely kept about one hour charge after a year and at current lasts about 35-40 minutes with wireless enabled. Considering that the laptop is plugged in almost 85% of the time, this is fairly terrible.
And most importantly (or annoyingly), the video card. The Nvidia GeForce 540M comes with either 1GB or 2GB of dedicated video memory. I opted for the 2GB over the 1GB merely because it was only about a $20 upgrade at the time of purchase. The card has pretty solid reviews on notebookcheck in terms of performance and can play modern games at decent quality. However (and this is a HUGE however), the thing crashes. It crashes a whole ton. Like a ridiculously ludicrous amount. And by crash, I do mean that the entire computer freezes along with a looping stuttering audio sound (which is incredibly loud and annoying) and must be powered down via the button.
There are several theories as to why the video card crashes (be it overheating, which obviously can occur in laptops, or more commonly, with this video card, that there is an issue with the clock speed). While it is possible to lower the amount of crashes by a great deal by switching to the integrated graphics card, I eventually found that this card would freeze during certain games, such as Starcraft 2. You can also go the "underclock the core speed of your 540M main card" which will also lower the frequency of crashes, but they still do inevitably occur under medium to heavy load. This could be an issue with the motherboard, 540M speed, etc. and that would be fine if Dell acknowledged the issue and voluntarily replaced or provided solutions to fix the crashing errors. But they haven't. In fact, they have gone a highly petty route by forcing users to extend warranties and continually replace the motherboard and video card. Oh, I said petty because on their forums, they also mute people and delete comments on their forums who even whisper anything overly negative about the computer or Dell's possible knowledge that they shipped out faulty components with the laptops and did not voluntarily pull the laptops back to replace said faulty components (if you read dell community forum posts in regards to how frequently and readily dell replaced motherboards for this laptop, it becomes fairly obvious they know of the issue).
Yes, it would cost them money to replace everyone's faulty components. But this is a premium laptop and by my standards, shipping out a laptop with faulty components is essentially shipping out an incomplete product, which Dell should be held liable for.
I am honestly stuck at a crossroads for rating this laptop. On the one hand, everything but the video card and battery runs perfectly and as it should, and the audio quality is superb. But Dell's horrible business practices in regards to informing their customers of faulty hardware (this also happened with the XPS M1530 line, see Nvidia 8 series class action lawsuit) leads me to have to ultimately give this laptop a 2/5.
Studio 1550.
i7, 2.2ghz, 1tb drive, 8 gig ram, GT525 & intel HD graphics, JBL sound,
bluetooth etc.
1st thing I do is set it up, and then pull the HDD out, pop in a clean one,
and set it up my way, and leave the "factory" drive on the shelf with the
expiration date of the warranty. If I have a warranty claim, pop in THEIR
drive with no personal data on it and send it back.
I didn't get the back-lit keyboard.
This thing screams on photoshop, which I use daily. Keyboard is responsive,
and easier than several of my older laptops. Keys are solid, not spongy.
The dual video is nice on the battery also. I went with the bigger battery
& charger. The bigger battery has the advantage of tilting the entire laptop
up. The sound on this thing is something to make you wonder how they get that
sort of sound out of a laptop. The JBL logo on the bottom, I guess the entire
cavity of the laptop is a tuned port. When it is sitting on a table, you can
really hear the bass pumping through. The case speakers on the top side are
clear & pretty loud. 3 USB ports. One on the left, one in back, and a combo
e-sata/usb on the right. USB 3 is plenty fast for my needs. I use a BT
mouse, and it works without any issue.
Battery life for my use is excellent. I can have it charged, unplug it after
work at 5pm, put it in sleep mode, and leave it that way til the next day, and
it might use 1-3% of the battery, making startup faster.
Wireless works perfectly, no issues.
If you need something to use primarily at home, it will be great.
I needed to buy another laptop, smaller and lighter to carry around, because this one is quite heavy.

Honest reviews on Dell XPS 15 CI5/2.4 15.6 6GB 750GB DVDR W7HP 64
My first XPS 15 worked for about 6 months and then everything started failing: serious connectivity issues, screen randomly turning on and off, scratchy sound, terrible picture, .... Dell customer service was horrid. They went on for about 9 months trying to convince me that there was nothing wrong with it. Eventually, when the laptop could not stay turned on for more than 5 seconds, they replaced it with another XPS. Now, 8 months later, all the problems are back and so is the horrible customer service.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dell XPS 15 CI5/2.4 15.6 6GB 750GB DVDR W7HP 64
I bought mine about a year and a half ago, with specs for gaming and the computer has given me nothing but problems. The moment it was out of warranty, the hard drive failed, and when I got that repaired, the battery failed. Now, once I've fixed the battery, the graphics card is giving me issues and I can't even enjoy my games any more. I've dumped over 1500$ into this trap. Never buying another Dell product again, always skimp on quality.Monday, October 27, 2014
Best Dell Studio 1537 Black Deals
I purchased this laptop in 2008. I used it mostly for work, and didn't need the sound features much, until this year when I needed to use a variety of sound-based applications for work (SKYPE was one). The sound output is inconsistent at best it works sometimes, then quits. Of course, it's beyond warranty, so I can't do a thing. There are posts all over the web about the sound problems with the 1537. If this were a car, there would be a RECALL and a FIX. If Dell wants to keep its customer base, these issues should be addressed. No one cares about unhappy customers anymore! I don't plan to buy another Dell.

unlike the other reviews before me i never had any serious issues with this laptop but i do agree that the sound from laptops are pretty useless. i really like the backlit key option and screen is quite nice. My main purpose was graphic design and it worked exactly the way i needed it to but if i was listening to music the headphones weren't too far. performance, design and quality are actually pretty good but it is a pretty heavy laptop. the only time i had any issue is when i switch the video via hdmi to a tv back to the laptop the sound doesnt play so i have to set the laptop speakers as default instead of the hdmi but it's more of an annoyance since it's not broken. for some reason it doesnt recognize that it's switching from hdmi to pc. overall it's a pretty good buy because it's pretty cheap and there is plenty of software. i stopped using it because i am doing more video editing so i picked up a macbook pro. the laptop can handle basic video editing through windows media maker but for what i needed i had to switch to apple. :) i still keep the dell around just as a backup.Best Deals for Dell Studio 1537 Black
I had continual problems with this laptop. Upon arrival the keypad was flimsy and warped, I sent it back and had it replaced with a less warped keypad. The touch buttons never worked right, ever. There is an annoying blue light around the charger plug that ispart of the design. After 8 months the battery stopped working, Dell replaced it in a timely manner. For the price it is fine, but after 18 months it just died out of no where, of course after the warranty was over. My hubby is an electrical engineer said the bios was fried. Out of warranty Dell was useless, I spent an hour on the phone get transferred from here to there and finally just gave up. My replacement laptop is a lenovo sl 510 thinkpad. It doesn't have the visual oompf of the dell but at least the keyboard doesnt feel cheap and nothing is warped on it.Honest reviews on Dell Studio 1537 Black
Please do yourself a favor and don't buy this laptop. I had a Dell for 4.5 years before this one and that one worked better!! I "upgraded" last year to this 1537 and it has been nothing but a headache ever since. Don't buy it. I only wish I could rate it less than one star.Wednesday, October 8, 2014

My internet connection never had problems dropping on my windows 7 HP, HP sucks in it's own right but this one is so confused becuase it has a browser in windows 8 and if you try using IE on desktop the connection is not smooth. I set the settings so that this wouldn't happen but it still drops my connection. I VPN for work on my work laptop which has 7 and never have a problem with connections so I know it's not my ATT Router. I am going to work with support to resolve but what I'm finding on the internet is not favorable and seems like an issue for a lot of people buying windows 8 PCs, laptops, etc. If I'm downloading something guess what? the connection drops in the middle of process. Very messed up, I am seriously considering returning and getting a windows 7 laptop if I can downgrade.Best Deals for Acer Aspire V5 15.6-Inch HD Display Laptop (Silky Silver) - 3rd

Discount Lenovo G570 4334DBU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
Expecting great performance from this product is unrealistic. The laptop does have a surprisingly decent touch-pad which is always nice to have on a laptop. It is pretty pack for the price, and for less than $50 you can throw 4gb more of ram to help give it a further boost. It is also fairly light for a budget 15" laptop and has great battery life. My complaints on it would be the screen quality. The picture is not great and it does give off a lot of glare. Given the price, I can't really complain about the product. Consider it buying last years technology only new and cheaper (i.e. it runs USB 2.0 and not 3.0)
The computer starts up quickly and runs just fine for me. I'd say it's typically ready to go in well under a minute. As others have stated, it does not come pre-loaded with a bunch of software. That may be a drawback for some folks, depending on what you're looking for. For me it works out great as I can add things later, as needed, without having to delete extra pre-loaded items that I never wanted to begin with. You do get a basic version of Microsoft Office including Word & Excel, as well as Google's Chrome and IE Explorer for web browsing. All of which fit my needs and have given me no problems.
As far the fingerprint issue that other people have mentioned, yes, the cover is a fingerprint magnet. I couldn't care less about that myself. The only minor complaint I might have is that the screen is reflective and can be a bit hard to see in the sunlight. But you can work around this pretty easily. But on a 1-10 Bothers Me scale, I'd rank the screen issue at about a 2. Meaning that I can easily live with it.
As for the computer feeling a bit cheap and plastic-y, as I think someone else may have said...about all I can say is, it doesn't seem that way to me. Hey, it's not a high-end computer. But it's not an etch-a-sketch either, you know? It more than does the job I ask of it, and I think it looks and feels perfectly fine while doing it. If that's an issue for anyone.
The keyboard and touchpad both work perfectly. The keyboard is surprisingly big for a laptop, at least to me, and is quite easy to use. The cooling vent is located on the side, and I've never had any issues at all with the computer getting hot, or even noticeably warm. Connection ports are located on both sides and easily accessible.
The DVD drive.....others have mentioned the bullet-like speed with which it opens. They aren't kidding about that. It pops out in a hurry, and unfortunately the button that opens it is fairly easy to hit by accident. Again though, this is a pretty minor issue.
Also, and again as I think other reviewers have said, the speakers aren't the greatest. They're not awful, but you may decide you want to attach some external speakers, or some earphones. I use a cheap pair of earphones I got at Wal-Mart for ten bucks, and they work great.
All in all, for under $500 you're getting a surprisingly good little computer. As someone else wrote, it may not be a $1,500 laptop, but it's not supposed to be. But if you're like me, after you've used it a while, you'll find yourself thinking that it's a heck of a lot better than it's price-point might lead you to believe. It's a very good value.
I would definitely recommend this computer to others.
The speakers sound noticeably small, the top surface is a fingerprint magnet and well the webcam is not the best but for this price i can't complain.
Well update if things fall apart....just giving Lenovo a chance :)
~Update 3rd April 2012~
Forgot to mention that the DVD drive kicks out with such ferocity...."look out", but even so it closes flush with the side of the system. The button on the drive is also somewhat recessed so pressing it without looking will take some practice.
Didn't come with a lot of bloatware and what it did come with was easy enough to get out. For the intended purpose we have (email, web browsing, downloading pictures from a p&s and very light word processing) it's reasonably fast. Extra memory is cheap and that would help but it's certainly not required unless your running something more serious. Battery life so far is quite good BUT the devil of that is in longevity so I expect it to crash like all my other laptops over time :-/
I hesitate to include this as an IT person I realise how little it means but will anyway. Like most laptops, it's hurt from the GP more then the other stuff with the cpu been better then I would expect. From the windoze experience thingi :-

Great value to get an i3 for $400 in a decent shell like this one. No it's not comparable to a 1500 dollar laptop but better build then a Toshiba we have. It is plastic (as you would expect at the price point) but it could be a lot worse. The lid just sits closed instead of been clipped which is not ideal. Layout is good with keys and plugs e.t.c. Screen is reflective but everyone is copying the apple shinny thing now days and the back of the lid shows smudges and finger prints if you just look at it.Didn't come with a lot of bloatware and what it did come with was easy enough to get out. Best HP g6-1a69us Notebook PC - Black Deals
Really nice computer i had it now for almost two weeks and i come from a compaq dual core with win vista and let me tell you this computer at that price is really nice, with a i3core, 4 GB ram, nice hard disk and win 7 it have a really nice speed, dosent get hot watching movies or videos just the normal, battery last a good time, is not heavy at all compare with other notebooks, really cool design.
Over all is a really good computer for a nice price, i use it for work and some small playing games like civilization V.
I tried to install a Hackintosh but it didn't work, kept on getting kernel panics. I tried both the MyHack and iBoot so I just ended up running Mac OS X 10.6.7 in a virtual machine. Other than that, I'm happy with the Windows 7 64-bit.

I didn't buy this on Amazon, I got it on sale on Best Buy (< 450) but it's such a good computer I thought I'd leave a review here. This was a great deal at 450. I bought this after reviewing similar models by Dell and Lenovo and settled on this because of the larger 4gb RAM and 500gb hard drive and it was on sale. It's also lighter than most 15.6" laptops, about 5.3 lbs. I enjoy having it on my lap while sitting on the sofa. It doesn't get hot and the only minor distraction is the fan blowing air on left side. The Core I3 is speedy, the 500gb hard drive is huge and the integrated graphics is more than acceptable. I am able to run NBA 2K10 and MLB 2k9 with acceptable quality.I tried to install a Hackintosh but it didn't work, kept on getting kernel panics. I shopped around and compared several name brand laptops, including different models of HP. This one stood out as a great buy. So far we are very pleased with our purchase. First of all you will be surprised with this sweet machine. Good for home/ home office. Not for real gamers. Core i3 processor with 4GB of DDR3 is a perfect match. Hard drive is more than enough. Till now I didn't see any flaw or cons. So I give 5 star review. Battery..... I didn't check actually but its more than 2.5 Hrs.Monday, September 15, 2014

-It's main vent on the left side does put out quite a bit of heat as does the power adapter.
-Its frame, though made of plastic, still feels solid and not too cheap and keeps it at a very comfortable weight.
-Track pad can be turned off and on easily.
-The hard drive has a shock sensor that will temporarily pause reading/writing when it detects potentially damaging levels of vibration. This an uncommon feature on budget laptops but a very nice one to have as it will likely increase the life of the hard drive significantly.
-2.0 Harmon-Kardon speakers sound amazing for a laptop. This is coming from a self proclaimed audiophile. I was perfectly content with the sound quality while watching Avengers.
-The Nvidia 3D vision glasses that are included are top quality and very comfortable. I've already ordered a second pair from a seller on Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005963JTY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
-Though the screen is not 1080p, which seems counter intuitive to the 3D feature, I've found it perfectly sufficient. I don't believe the high resolution will make much if any difference with a screen this size. Lower resolution also vastly improves performance in video games so its a trade off that I've found more beneficial in this case.
-The viewing angle for the screen IS very limited. Should you wish to purchase addition glasses as I have, I don't believe that you can reasonably sit more than 2 people snuggly in front of the screen at a comfortable distance. So if you're looking for a 3D experience for the whole family to enjoy at the same time, this is not it.
-GW2 will definitely play well at mid to high graphics settings in 2D. The frame rate drops down considerably in 3D but is still manageable even in LA and WvW. I will likely stick to 2D with higher quality graphics in most cases but I recommend at least testing the stereoscopic 3D in various games just for the thrill of it.
All in all, if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive outlet to 3D media that will also cover the rest of your mobile computing needs, this is it. I scoured Amazon and the rest of the web for endless hours to compare a vast range of laptops and features and, at least at this point, I've found no other laptop with a blu-ray player, 3D capability, and sufficient specs to play the freshest online games for under $1400. Even without the 3D, I'd consider this a great laptop for the price.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite P755-3DV20 15.6 Inch LED 3D notebook- Intel Core
I only just received this laptop 2 days ago but I have set up the 3d capability (very easy to do) and used it to watch Avengers in 3D as well as play Guild Wars 2 in 3D and let me tell you, this is an exceptional mobile multimedia device for the money ($780 from Beach Camera). Only time will tell about its longevity but in my extensive experience with desktop, laptop and handheld computing devices I know that one of the most important contributors to a laptop's reliable life-span is how well it vents heat in order to stay cool. Aside from the more obvious forms of abuse, heat damage will significantly reduce the life of a laptop's components and I am very pleased to say that this machine remained shockingly cool when placed on a smooth flat surface even after playing Guild Wars 2 in 3D for about 20 mins. Playing video games in 3D will likely be the most demanding task the average computer user or even gamer can put on a computer so this is quite a feat.Other points of interest:

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-5246 13.3-Inch HD Laptop (Black Reviews
When receiving the package, I immeadiately charged it. Afterwards, downloaded all the programs that I needed to replace my four year old laptop. Talked to the internet company to get that started (my fault b/c I forgot a step to set up). After my set-up was done, I absolutely LOVE it!!!!
My soul purpose for the Timeline is writing. But I do need to carry the laptop to different locations and interview clients. And this "dream" laptop is a sure delight. The processing speed is quick for what I do. Downloads are fast. And the biggest plus....this laptop does not get HOT like my old one. So, I'm ditching the "lap"top cooler! I'm free to roam.
The Battery life is outstanding! I surfed the web for over two hours(unplugged from the ac adaptor) before I came to write this review, my indicator is showwing 90%...8 hours left! WOW!!! Granted, I did some tweaking to the display and power adjustments. But still, 8 hours left after two hours of surfing the net....I love this laptop!
Now the down side. If you're looking to webcam with this laptop, you'll be disappointed. You need to be outside for the proper lighting. Or you can have the lamp light your face if you're indoors. I have adjusted the webcam to a certain degree, but still the quality wasn't there. But like I mentioned before, the soul purpose is for writing.
PRO: Lightweight, Battery life!
CONS: Webcam quality.
If anything should arise in the near future, I'll add it to my review.
I highly suggest the Timeline X to everyone who is in my position.

Someone asked for the Windows Experience Index:

That being said, I love this little Acer system overall. I've been in high tech for over 25 years and I've gone through a lot of computers. I've had this one aboug three weeks and it has exceeded my expectations in most areas.
Form Factor
Small, light, and compact; yet feels solid when you carry it. Doesn't overheat like many systems. Speakers for a laptop are pretty good, as is the webcam. I think most 'average users' will be okay with both. While the keyboard and wrist area are fairly good at not picking up fingerprints, the same can't be said for the top of the system the black matte surface tends to show them.
I like the multi-card reader (it's hidden nicely in the front left corner of the system) and the HDMI support is a real plus as well for me since I plug this into my standing monitor quite often.
If you're used to opening up your laptop with one hand (due the help gravity gives you in dealing with your older, heavier laptop) you may miss that the Acer really needs two hands to open the lid, else the bottom tends to come off the table while you're trying to open the 'clam shell' hinged top. A small thing I adjusted to quickly...
In general, doesn't seem to be a lot of flex in the system, no creaking or moaning when I carry it. it reminds me a little of a well-built car when you shut the door solid sounding, not a tin can. (I've had a lot of tin can laptops over the years...) I have noticed a slight looseness in the left hand side plastic that covers the LED display, but it's not enough to bother me.
Peformance
The Intel HD graphics, i3 processor, and 4GB of memory help this puppy hum right along. The only complaint would be the slower 5400 speed drive. It's not necessarily noticeable, but it's too bad Acer doesn't include a faster 7200RPM drive. Also, for future reference, the system can hold 8GB of memory, but it comes preinstalled with 2 2GB DDR3 1066 SDRAM memory modules so keep that in mind if you are planning to upgrade memory at some point in the future you'll need to swap out both cards to get to 8GB.
High resolution video streaming, various online playbacks, and online performance in general is excellent. (See my note below about wireless throughput). In general, I'm very pleased with the graphics on this system.
Pre-installed Software
A couple of the Acer preloaded softwares seemed a little flakey. I uninstalled most of the preloaded software. In general, there is some clean-up if you don't want to take advantage of all their 'offers', but no more than most other systems.
Keyboard
Didn't mind the 'island' key layout, though it did take a couple minutes to get used to. Keyboard overall is responsive and has a very good 'full keyboard' feel. I thought the response of the multi-gesture touchpad was pretty good overall and think that if you haven't had one before, you'll like the functionality.
CineCrystal Backlight LED Display
Some people don't like this type of 'high-gloss' display. This system doesn't seem to have much glare/reflection issues; viewing angles are good, and the brightness is almost too bright I adjusted the default power settings to turn it down some.
Wireless
I did have one issue with the wireless (which turned out to have nothing directly to do with the Acer system, but I thought it was important to include here for anyone looking at Windows 7 and N-router compatibility). The Acer found my network easily, and Windows 7 configured everything correctly so it worked right away... but, I noticed the throughput seemed very slow. I ran a speed test online (dslreports) and realized my throughput was terrible even though I was configured to use my N-router and was only about 5 feet from the router when I did the test. I little research showed a lot of people complaining about slow and disconnecting wireless on Windows 7 systems (mostly during the Windows 7 beta, but still a lot since production release).
My problem turned out to be related to my router (it needed to have it's firmware updated to the latest version). Once I did that, the Acer connected wirelessly like a rocket. I'm averaging 11-12Mbps download on comcast; prior to update my wireless router firmware I was getting about 950Kbps download speed wirelessly. So if you have an N-router and are moving to a system with Windows 7, and you notice any performance issues, you may want to double check and make sure your router firmeware is the latest version possible.
Also, be aware that the preinstalled wireless drivers for the Atheros miniPCIe card are more current than the ones on Acer's website. So if you are troubleshooting wireless issues, be careful to check versions before assuming Acer's website has the most current.
Batter Life
While the 6-cell battery is good (Acer also makes a 9-cell you can buy as well), it's not giving me anywhere near 8 hours of battery life not that I expected it to. There are good options and a lot of granularity for adjusting performance/battery life profiles. I've been running mostly in the predefined 'balanced profile' and find I get about 4 to 4.5 hours of battery life which I think is more than reasonable. I suspect if I wanted to I could prolong the battery by running in the 'maximum battery life profile', but I haven't worried about it since my old laptop (Dell XPS) was lucky to get 2.5 hours. I did play with the maximum battery life profile a little and didn't notice any slow down in performance only that it dimmed the display quite a bit which is always a big culprit when it comes to consuming power.
Acer Support
I had a chance to deal with them when I noticed my slow wireless connectivity. In general, they seem to try and handle support via email, and although they are responsive, the responses seemed very automated and generic (try installing latest drivers, check obvious things). If you are used to troubleshooting issues on your own, I think they can complement the process. I never got the point where my issue was escalated hight enough to get any real help from them as I'd already solved it on my own. That being said, their site does a pretty good job of organizing their drivers by model and OS.
Last Thoughts
I had considered buying an Apple Macbook Pro or Airbook this time around, but for the price difference, this Acer can't be beat. I'd also looked at various higher/lower end notebooks, ultralight notebooks and ever a few netbooks. If you don't mind not having an optical drive (and to be honest I thought I would miss it, but don't) a 13.3 inch system like this Acer, with the new Intel i3 processor (they also have a model that comes with the i5) can't be beat for the price. It's solid and seems to be a good little workhorse.
Pros:
* Thin & Light
* Fast & Snappy performance (standard i3 processor!)
* Plays Youtube/Hulu 1080p content perfectly (no stutter)
* Bluetooth 3.0 (The spec listing is wrong again...)
* Great Battery Life
* Solid/Quality Construction
* Aluminum brushed exterior and overall design looks very nice
* User-friendly Touchpad
* Solid Keyboard
* Laptop never gets hot, warm at most even under stress
* Quiet
* Bright and Clear LCD.
Cons:
* At the time of purchase, specs showed it includes external DVD drive (which it does not).
* Gray areas of notebook is more silver-gray than charcoal-gray as shown.
* Glossy LCD Panel no problem indoors, but hard to see in outdoor sunny conditions.
* Weak 5400rpm hard drive is bottleneck of this system.
* Bloatware/Unwanted Apps less than some rivals but still a pain to remove.
Worthy of Noting:
* Touchpad(made by Synaptics) and palm area is much better made than the ASUS UL Series. Unlike the ASUS UL series I tried, this 3820T doesn't collect much hand oil/fingerprints, and fingers glides through easily even after prolonged use. Also, the Touchpad & Gestures both works very accurately and the touchpad buttons are very easy to press.
* Keyboard: Keys are quiet when typing, no flexing, and feels more solid compared to ASUS UL series.
* Chassis: Solid laptop casing and assembled very well. There are no loose parts and no squeaking pressure points.
* Wireless: For those who care, the wireless chip inside the 3820T is an Atheros AR5B93. The wireless connection is stable with decent range.
* HDMI out to 1080p LCD monitor worked without much effort. Just plug and play, and choose settings you want in Intel HD Control Panel. I don't have a Blu-Ray drive so have not been able to test Blu-Ray playback. However, YouTube 1080p x264 played perfectly, no stutter and uses about 30% CPU.
* Sound is adequate for quiet to moderate noise environments. If you want a digital audio connection this laptop also includes a digital-out SPDIF option.
* Drivers that came with the laptop is NEWER than Acer Support Website. If you want to do a clean installation of Windows 7, you'll need to hunt down updated drivers on your own.
* Heat/Noise: The notebook stays cool and is lap friendly. You can feel the warm air pushed out of the side fan when playing 1080p clip, but the body of the laptop stays at room temp. It stays quiet throughout intense and light-use.
Final Thoughts:
*Great price/value/performance/quality. I would buy again and recommend to others.
I've also inadvertently put this computer through a serious stress test, which it passed in impressive fashion: I was installing a program (from a legitimate vendor that shall remain nameless) that went out-of-control and opened about 40 web browser windows, and yet the computer didn't crash! It apparently had the CPU and memory capacity to handle all those processes until I finally was able to use the Task Manager to rein them in.
This laptop is not without some minor faults. The trackpad is not as sensitive to multi-gestures as I would like. As other reviewers have mentioned, its webcam quality isn't great. And of course there are several annoying pre-installed programs that I opted to remove. Personally I think its performance more than makes up for these shortfalls.
The lack of a built-in optical drive is a minor inconvenience, but nothing that an external drive and an optical drive emulator can't overcome. The only thing I really miss from Mac OSX is the native multiple-desktop support (though apparently there are free downloads available for that too)...Windows 7 has something comparable to every other feature I regularly use on a Mac.
Windows Experience Indices (whatever they're supposed to mean):
Processor: 6.3
Memory (RAM): 5.9
Graphics: 4.6
Gaming graphics: 5.1
Primary hard disk: 5.9
Pros: Screen is bright
machine is very quick
heat is a non issue
card reader is located intelligently enough in the front of the machine
It looks very pro. Feels light but substantial
Makes a happy little ubuntu box, compiz works
Cons:I don't care at all for the shared wifi/bluetooth button. It's just confusing.
I use encryption on everything, encrypted volumes, folders, etc. It would be nice if this i3 was one of the models with
hardware AES support, but it has enough CPU available that it's not like I really notice.
Notes:
You'll need to add the following to the xorg.conf in the Device section to get switching to HDMI to work
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
Option "EXAOptimizeMigration" "true"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
You'll also need to add the following line to /etc/default/grub to get the brightness hotkeys working
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"
then run sudo update-grub. acpi_osi is not a typo, it's not acpi_os
Update, I just found that I actually had the atheros driver for the NIC already installed, you will need to download that. Never did get the bluetooth to work and battery life in normal operation (wifi, virtualbox VM running, playing MP3s and surfing) is right around 6.5 hours. Otherwise this thing has been a joy.

I bought this for $699, shipping included directly from Amazon about three weeks ago. As you can see from some of the discussion thread, the specifications on this system listed by Amazon were changed several times along the way I think Amazon could do a better job in making sure they get the particulars of a specific model right when they are listing a new system. (I noticed this wasn't just for Acer, seemed to be the case for many new systems). That being said, I love this little Acer system overall. Honest reviews on Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-5246 13.3-Inch HD Laptop (Black
This computer has demonstrated seriously impressive speed, performance, portability, and battery life in the 2 weeks I've had it. It's lighter and runs cooler than my 2-year old black 13-in MacBook Pro, and it took about 3.5 hours of moderate use (web-browsing + software installations) to reduce battery charge to 50%. It remains super-fast even when I'm on the web, playing music, and installing programs at the same time.I've also inadvertently put this computer through a serious stress test, which it passed in impressive fashion: I was installing a program (from a legitimate vendor that shall remain nameless) that went out-of-control and opened about 40 web browser windows, and yet the computer didn't crash!

I just received my Timeline today and immediately swapped out the drive with a 128G AData SSD with Ubuntu 10.04 32bit (32 bit because I pulled it from my previous machine that was 32 bit, I may go to 64 bit at some point). Boot to login using encrypted LVM is about 6 seconds. Everything was detected and just a few tweaks were needed to the xorg.conf to get HDMI switching to work. HDMI audio works, wifi works great, I really haven't found anything yet that doesn't work. Battery life of 8 hours seems fairly optimistic, but I've been running it awful hard as a burn in and I'm getting about 4 hours (screen at 100%, CPU at 1.85Ghz, boxee playing pandora non stop over wifi) I suspect that 6 to 7 hours will be closer to norm. Suspend and resume works like a charm. Open the lid and resume is within 2 seconds (remember, SSD not an HDD). The keyboard is excellent and heat is a non issue. It does get warm, but I would say less than 100F. I'm trying to get the bluetooth to wake up now, but haven't had much luck. I've also spent all of 5 minutes on it. I have no idea how this machine runs in windows, but I would not hesitate to suggest it to anyone that is looking for a nice linux machine.Pros: Screen is bright
machine is very quick
heat is a non issue
card reader is located intelligently enough in the front of the machine
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"
then run sudo update-grub. acpi_osi is not a typo, it's not acpi_os

ASUS ROG G750JX-RB71 17.3" Gaming Notebook PC - Black Review
Bought this laptop for $1,500 and it was worth every penny. For those who don't want to spend $1,820 for the g750jx-db71 but want more graphics horsepower than the g750jw-db71 can provide this is an excellent laptop
It has been said in the description, BUT $1932.48 is the price for a G750JX-DB71
The real price for this laptop (G750JX-RB71) is $1549.00
btw This item has the worst title, it does not even tell what model it is.

I was looking for a second computer, specifically one with Windows XP. I read the seller's notes and was I surprised when it arrived. It arrived sooner than I'd expected. What I got was much more than I expected; the "scratches and scuffs" I didn't notice. The "works great" is the Honest-Abe's truth. It's always a risk buying used; I'm glad I took the chance on John Amrhein. Couldn't be happier!Best Deals for Dell Latitude D610 Pentium M 1.6GHz 1GB 40GB CDRW/DVD 14.1" XP
Very impressed with the product and the seller. First of, i received the laptop way faster than expected. Its in very good physical condition. I dont know much about laptops, but its seems to be working, hopefully as i dig further into it i would continue to be pleased. The only thing is, i hope this seller or any others can be more detailed about the conditions of their products, because it can really help. I almost didnt buy this laptop bc i was afraid it would be in bad shape.Honest reviews on Dell Latitude D610 Pentium M 1.6GHz 1GB 40GB CDRW/DVD 14.1" XP

I purchased this laptop for my brother's daughter who is 11 years old for educational purposes, as well as, playing games and stay connected to her family and friends. She loves her laptop and it was readily available for a faction of the cost. It works well even as a used item. No problems with this item as of yet.Monday, July 14, 2014
Reviews of Toshiba Black 15.6" Satellite C655D-S5200 Laptop PC with AMD
I've had this computer about a year and a half, and I think it's pretty spiffy. I bought it at Walmart for $330-ish, I think. After about a year of using it with no problems, the hard drive crashed, and it needed replacing (about $200).
What compelled me to write a review was the comments that the laptop hinges broke. I had the same problem with mine. The plastic at the hinges on the laptop base separated and the screen became loose. I couldn't close it without the computer making breaking noises. After a little examining, I realized that the one of the screws on the bottom of the laptop that hold the hinges to the plastic had came out. I "borrowed" a screw from a different part of the laptop (oops) and it's been fine since. If you have this laptop, I strongly suggest tightening the display hinge screws, which are located right underneath the hinges on the underside of the laptop, with a jeweler's screwdriver to make sure your screen doesn't get floppy, or so that you don't lose a screw entirely.
Cons:
1. Battery stopped charging less than 6 months after purchase. A replacement battery
from Toshiba requires a $176 holding charge on a credit card even though Toshiba customer
support never bothered to determine whether the problem was the battery or the latop itself.
2. LCD screen broke after a tap to the *back* of the laptop. Toshiba's repair depot charged $325, nearly the cost of the laptop itself, to repair. I bought a screen here on Amazon for $72 and fixed it myself in 40 minutes.
3. The absolute worst customer support I've ever come across.
Pros:
1. cheap and efficient if used for basics (web browsing, document handling).
This is the last Toshiba item I'll ever purchase. Toshiba customer support and the product and customer support have been nothing short of infuriating.

I bought this Toshiba laptop brand new from a local big box vendor. Avoid buying the laptop if at all possible. If I could rate it at less than 1 star I would.Cons:

I bought this laptop for college so my spouse and I don't have to fight over using the desk PC when we have to do our school work. I was under the impression that the laptop would start-up on the fast side and load programs even faster. I was disappointed to see that everything seems to load on the sluggish side. Since this will not be my main computer it should be OK.Honest reviews on Toshiba Black 15.6" Satellite C655D-S5200 Laptop PC with AMD
