I've had problems with the wireless card on this computer since I got it. It says it's connected to the internet, but frequently drops the connection. I ended up paying $275 for Dell's concierge service, and they replaced the card, but it still happens, though slightly less often. The screen is great, lots of memory, runs quickly, even with Adobe Photoshop running but the internet issues kill this computer for me.

I really love this computer! It's not the fastest thing you can get on the market but it's certainly worth every cent I paid for it! The keyboard is really responsive and quiet. The touch pad is wonderful, picks up the lightest touch when you want it to but it never picks up my wrists. Really nice features and a really sturdy design.

The touch pad and around the touch pad has a rubberized feel to it that can be hard to keep clean so keep that in mind. If you're a neat freak like myself, this might not be the best choice for you. It's pretty heavy for it's size, the macbook pro weighs a good pound less than this guy. Battery life is pretty good, lasts a good 5 and a half hours fully charged when watching a movie so you can get through the majority of plane rides with this guy.

Great computer overall, I would highly suggest this to any of my friends.

The laptop really sucks. I called Dell THREE times for different problems in the first week. The problems include a fallen-out Fn key, a disfunction SD slot and the BIOS system. The touchpad is really a mess because it reacts to anything even a hair on it. I chose XPS because my last laptop is an XPS and I never called Dell for technical help for SIX years. In my opinion the company is going down and my next laptop is definitely NOT gonna be a Dell.

Honest reviews on Dell XPS XPS15-9474sLV 15-Inch Laptop

The display, processor speed, memory, and peripherals are excellent. Build quality is rugged. Keyboard is smaller than standard. If you're also using a standard keyboard it may take some getting used to when you switch back and forth, since the keys are in slightly different position. The blueray/dvd drive spins noisier than it should, but this seems specific to my laptop (we bought two and the other doesn't have this issue). Installed the OS on the solid state drive and it boots in under 10 seconds (laptop shipped booting from the hard drive), extremely fast! Overall this is a good laptop for the money.

Dont know why the other reviewer would give a 1 star review for buying a plan for 13in, when the title of the product that says: Applecare Protection Plan for Macbook Pro (15 or 17 inch). It's possible it was changed since then.

Rest assured that this plan worked perfectly to register with Apple.

Would recommend to a friend. Save yourself close to 160 bucks and get it here, not at Apple.com.

Apple refused to accept this Applecare registration because the product is for 15 or 17 inch Macbook pros. After trying to register my computer several times with the applecare registration that came with this product, I called Apple and they said it will not work with a 13 inch Macbook pro. This would probably be fine if you have a 15 or 17 inch macbook pro -but don't purchase if you have a 13 inch macbook pro.

I just got my laptop in today. took 3 days to receive. It is really fast and runs smooth. This is well worth the price.

My internet connection never had problems dropping on my windows 7 HP, HP sucks in it's own right but this one is so confused becuase it has a browser in windows 8 and if you try using IE on desktop the connection is not smooth. I set the settings so that this wouldn't happen but it still drops my connection. I VPN for work on my work laptop which has 7 and never have a problem with connections so I know it's not my ATT Router. I am going to work with support to resolve but what I'm finding on the internet is not favorable and seems like an issue for a lot of people buying windows 8 PCs, laptops, etc. If I'm downloading something guess what? the connection drops in the middle of process. Very messed up, I am seriously considering returning and getting a windows 7 laptop if I can downgrade.

This, I've got to say, is an amazing laptop. This is the families first laptop, and we upgraded from a Dell Dimension 3000, so this review may not be too relevant to you, but i'm sure it should help somewhat.

We were originally planning to buy an HP laptop. We were very close to buying it, when a last minute decision was made to go to frys electronics. They recommended this laptop for the families needs, and they could have never been more right! I use the laptop heavily, mostly using the internet, but I also usually like to edit video's, work on 3D Animation, sound edit, watch lots of youtube video's, etc... This laptop doesn't break a sweat!

If you are worried about the fact that they used an AMD A-8 3520m on this laptop(at least mine), don't be. The quad-core processor works very nicely when video editing or animating. You'd be surprised to see how this computer can handle animation projects. I use Blender, and the only time I've seen lag while using blender was when I would set subdivisions on a mountain to an unreasonably high point or if I set the resolution on an ocean to high. Other than that, I've been doing great.

I give this laptop a 4-star rating simply because of this: battery life. The battery life can be very annoying, mostly in readings. The computer can say that you have around 3 hours of battery life left, when you really just have one. This can get on your nerves if you plan on taking the laptop outdoors a

lot.

Last but not least, this laptop works OK with overclocking. I haven't got into overclocking too much, but I've done some overclocking. The cpu does get hot at times, but that's if you overclock too much.

Overall, this laptop is a great deal. It's big, it's light, it's got enough space to handle you files, whether they be 1MB or 100MB, and the overclocking abilities are nice. I would most definitely recommend this product to a friend!

I'm an IT person so was looking for a great machine for my dad for Christmas. The specs are great and for a basic user, they're more than enough. So far the machine is holding up and the sound is great, and it's pretty light for the size. I would definitely recommend this for a basic user (Internet, Office, etc...) I'm not sure if it's good for gaming as I don't do that. Otherwise, it's great! We use Lenovo at my place of work so I think it's a reputable brand.

Just frustrated that I had to spend $900 plus to avoid Windows 8. Windows 8 is so much cheaper right now if your willing to deal with it. Also, the computer touchpad seems to have a cheap toy click to it. Anyways....I was in a hurry to complete a project and my other computer had crashed. So, I only have myself to blame for not shopping around, which I recommend. The seller was great at a quick delivery, which I really appreciated!

We ordered this system as a replacement for our CEO's T410 and I needed to set it up quickly. I went through my normal process of PC prep; remove the crapware, add it to the domain, add the domain user as local admin, then as domain user install apps and updates. Microsoft updates repeatedly failed. The only variable was I had disabled the update to IE10. After much frustration, I "blue buttoned" it as we call it; that is use the Lenovo system image to restore it to out of the box status. Same result. Microsoft Mr Fix It app could not fix it. Went back and added Lenovo update to make sure all of its drivers were in place; updated BIOS and some other hardware drivers. Seems to be working now. I don't know if it was the Lenovo updater software itself or the BIOS update. We shall see. I'm already a day behind having it ready.

Concerning the Lenovo T430 hardware, this is a slight improvement over the T420. Good feel to the keyboard with a backlight option. They've rearranged the ports again, but what you need is there including a VGA out and RJ45.

Note: This the 2nd T430 we have brought in and at least the 50th ThinkPad. We generally take the same approach of removing the crapware, including the ThinkPad utilities that offer no benefit (most of them). I'm thinking it was the BIOS update, though I still plan to punch Bill Gates in the mouth if I ever see him.

I've owned this model for 3 years now. I was never very happy with it in the first place. It had only 1 GB of memory when I bought it, which I upgraded to 2 GB so that I would be able to run the suckey Windows Vista OS that it came with. I've suffered through having my roommate give it heat damage & also, while I haven't used the DVD drive a lot, I want it to work when I do use it. Recently it has gone out, which is prompting me to look for a new laptop. This model has more power than a net book, but not hardly enough to be of much use to me. I'm a college student & casual gamer; also, I like to burn DVDs & do photo editing. I've dealt with it, but it's not been an enjoyable fit for me. I ended up having to replace the AC power cord at least twice. Also, for as little power as it actually gives, the battery life is pretty bad... only about 2 1/2 hours... but only if you're not running *anything*. Start running programs & the battery life may decrease down to 1 1/2 hours or even just 1 hour. I would not recommend this model to anyone. For about $300, you can get a much better model than this. For less, you can get a netbook that does about the same as what this is *actually* good for.

I use this object at work. It does whatever it wants to do. If you try to scroll, it will independently highlight everything on the screen and will not function until you are able to cancel the highlighting, which usually requires multiple efforts. If, when working in a document, you linger too long on any part of your page, it will relocate the cursor to that area without warning. If you hover anywhere on a web page, it will leave the page you're on and go to whatever link is nearby. Frequently little menu screens pop up, completely unbidden, asking if you want to go back or copy a shortcut, etc., and you cannot get rid of the little screens or move forward with your work until they are gone sometimes requiring you to reboot the computer. I have seldom worked with anything as frustrating as this machine is. I dread the days at work when I can't get the desktop and instead am relegated to using this oppositional device. And are you kidding me eleven hundred dollars? You can get a decent laptop for half that. This is a classic example of a machine devised for the workplace, where limitless corporate dollars buy something that a regular Joe would just get at Sam's only the one from Sam's would work and you could get two of them with the same amount of money. Really this thing costs more than my Mac laptop? I'm just stunned. It's awful.

I purchased this product at Staples after doing a little research on it and finding out that it had all that I need, 1. a large hard dive (500 gb is plenty for me), 2. 17.3" screen, 3. Windows 7, and the price wasn't bad either. I've been using mine for about 4 days now and I really do love it. It easily connects to wifi without problems, and for the most part once I insert a device into the usb port it automatically downloads the software, so I don't have to go onto various websites looking for downloads. I also like the fingerprint resistant surface, and the quick tab keys located at the top of the keyboard, which allow me to change the volume, or the brightness level of the screen. The numeric keyboard to the right, and the full sized keyboard is a plus as well.

Cons:

The touchpad. I don't really care for it. It's design is flawed in my opinion, so I am using an external one.

Best Deals for HP G72-b60us 17.3-Inch Laptop PC - Up to 5 Hours of Battery Life

Saw a good deal at Stapples last week and decided to purchase this laptop. Not really computer savy but tend to purchase lots of technology and have owned several pcs for work projects including Apple products. As a basic user who tends to search for jobs, read the news online, load pictures, and occassionally download music, this pc has been effective so far. The only annoyance is the mouse pad area which requires a bit of pressure to left/right click things. This laptop seems to be a test run for style because I don't think that mouse pad is effective even though it looks simple. A minor issue in my opinion so just take it as a finger work out. It's also very quiet and the music sounds ok once tweeked a bit. If I could rate it 4 1/2 stars (decent price with the discount at purchase plus the mail in rebate, screen size, memory, but the mouse pad and the starter programs could be better) I would but 5 for the basic user, college student, or the older adult I think you will be pleased.

Honest reviews on HP G72-b60us 17.3-Inch Laptop PC - Up to 5 Hours of Battery Life

Unfortunately, all of the wonderful aspects of the laptop do not make up for the problems. The screen is gorgeous, the colors are lovely, the price is right for an array of excellent features. I dearly love my little guy, but he is no longer reliable (this matters to me because I use it for work and running statistical models). There is an electrical problem which forces the computer to randomly shut down (other customers have been told it is related to over heating). After looking up multiple potential ways to fix, I became aware the there are a LOT of people with HP laptops (a multitude of different HP laptops) that all have the same set of problems, including faulty/easy to break powercords. That is all well and good, expected as no computer is perfect. I also have a macbook and have had problems with it over the years, but Apple has had, by and large, amazing customer support. HP on the other hand is the most awful, deviant company I have ever spoken to. After your 1 year warranty is up, they refuse to even talk to you. Unless you pay them an inordinate sum of money. Companies that do not stand by their products and repeatedly issue products with similar problems are dishonest and I will no longer be an HP customer after this. HP, you have let us down.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for HP G72-b60us 17.3-Inch Laptop PC - Up to 5 Hours of Battery Life

To begin, I have owned this laptop for two months. I needed a replacement laptop for a Dell Inspiron 1721 (AMD Dual Core 1.9ghz), which stopped working and wouldn't boot up. I needed a 17" because it is my "desktop" and my eyesight is not that good. To say I got a great laptop is not doing this PC justice. My Dell literally used to take 10 minutes to boot up. This takes 15 seconds to get to the login page and 50 seconds to boot up completely. I loaded the exact same software I had on my Dell. This is very fast. Another problem I had with my Dell was overheating. When I took the Dell apart, there was dust accumulation so thick that there was 70% occlusion. This HP has been running 27 degrees Celsius on standard apps/web-surfing and about 35 degrees Celsius on movies and game-play(using speed fan temperature monitor). The fan rarely comes on and runs cool to touch. It is incredibly light in comparison and the best feature is the HDMI (the Dell was missing HDMI). I hook up the HDMI to my 32" Toshiba Regza constantly to watch HD content and the transition is smooth and flawless. Color comparisons are superb with no clarity loss. The smudge-proof surface is nicely textured and--once you get used to it--the scroll features (vertical and horizontal) are not an issue. One cool feature is the Synaptics Pointing Device. With this enabled, I can use my mouse pad in fast-scroll and pinch/expand mode...big plus. The one problem (small) is that the space bar--when tapped a bit to the right of center--does not always work. I sometimes have to go back and place spaces between words (thank goodness for spell check!). Overall, my happiness level is high with this laptop. Several reviewers spoke of poor customer service. I can't speak to this, but the new norm is "poor" unless you're dealing with Apple. In my humble 30+ years of technology experience, companies come and go, customer service comes and goes. You take the good with the bad and learn from mistakes. That's why I DIDN'T choose a Dell (this time).

Computer is very-light and the perfect size at 14". The back-lite keyboard is a nice feature, but it does not seem to distract or enhance much. I thought perhaps if you got the white version that might be problem, but I got black, so it's just a really cool cosmetic feature. Bootup time is really fast and impressive. Computer does not make any weird "processing" sounds. The speakers are on top (not the bottom), so there is no distortion of sound. The usb drives are all up front, so it would be nicer to have those in the back. It would also be nice to have a 10-key pad, but you really have to go up to a 15.6" for those, and those really are too big for me. Wish it had a micro sd slot instead of a pro duo slot, but it is a Sony. Processor and graphics are pretty good but not great. But not at all bad, and I upgraded from netbook, so I am really noticing and benefiting from the speed difference. Overall, I would recommend this computer. I think between a PC, 15.6", 13", and those netbooks, this size really gives you the best of everything that you are looking for including: a DVD drive, 6GB RAM (that's a lot), and a hard drive with well over 500 GB of storage (640GB to be exact), good graphics, i3 processor (of course i5 and i7 are better but most people wouldn't even need that and many computers out of box come with much worse), without being too big or heavy. This is a really great value and design. Buy it with your Amazon credit card like I did and you save 3% on top of that!! Highly recommend this.

The Sony VAIO E Series SVE14112FXP is a pleasure to use! The laptop itself is an eye-catcher because of its bright, pink case and illuminated, soft-to-the-touch keys. Beyond that, it's a real workhorse.

This laptop performs all the tasks I desire and allows me to run multiple applications at once. I have had no problems using my VAIO to write papers, explore the web, stream movies and music, download songs to my iPod, play DVDs, read e-books, connect to my wireless printer and run educational software. The web cam and microphone are also adequate and easy to use. I'm not an avid gamer or video editor and can't comment on how it would handle those projects.

However, I would like to comment on two features that attracted me to the VAIO:

The Backlit Keyboard I love having a laptop that I can use with the lights off. My only gripe is that the only way you can turn it off is by changing the settings in the VAIO Control Panel (under "Keyboard and Mouse"). There should be a keystroke (ideally a switch or button) to turn the back lighting off when it's not needed.

VAIO Gesture Control Waving your hands around to skip back and forth through songs and control volume is a bit silly, but I want to do it! This feature is disabled by default when you receive your laptop and can be turned on through Sony's Media Gallery or VAIO Gesture Control. According to the settings, you can use it when running Media Gallery, Windows Media Player, Power DVD and Internet Explorer. I find the camera to be very fussy about your distance from the computer and it doesn't pick up your gestures in poor or dark lighting. I'm not sure how much more time I'll devote to trying to master gesturing because it's faster to use the clickable touch pad.

I almost didn't purchase this laptop because I was concerned about negative reviews about the clickable touch pad on previous VAIO models. I've never used a touchpad like this before and it took me a short time to get acquainted with it. I recommend practicing and watching the tutorial video (also in the VAIO Control Center under "Keyboard and Mouse") to novices like me. Scrolling and enlarging images with two fingers is my favorite part.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend a Sony VAIO E Series SVE14112FXP to my friends or people who perform similar tasks. I haven't had a computer that I could get THIS excited about in years!

Best Deals for Sony VAIO E Series SVE14112FXB 14-Inch Laptop (Sharkskin Black)

It truly pains me to write this review. I researched laptops more than I should have, spending a lot of time trying to figure out just the perfect one for me. I decided to spend a little more than my $400 budget, and went with the $550 Sony. All my laptops have been in that $400 to $500 range, so this was a bit higher than normal for my wife and I.

I received it quickly, and really liked the looks of it (I did check out a similar model at BB). We opened it and noticed the keyboard was not properly snapped into place, so I just pressed on the outer perimeter and snapped in all the edges. Typing on the keyboard felt nice. I liked the backlight too!

The touchpad was not great. I am accustomed to just lightly tapping my finger on the pad to click, and with the settings adjusted to be very sensitive, the touchpad would still require a few tries before it accepted my "tap input".

The left and right buttons are on the corners of the seemingly continuous touchpad. They are very flimsy and feel awkward to use.

Multitouch input is a FAR cry from any smart phone I've used. It usually took a few tries to get it to function the way I needed it to. I mean, come on Sony... this is 2012. Is this technology stuff that tough? Sony has always been a great brand, but the touchpad is as if its never been invented before and I'm getting a beta version of it on my laptop. $300 laptops have a better feel in the touchpad than this one.

The speakers were VERY tinny and pretty quiet. I guess I'm spoiled from the speakers on my 17" Acer laptop that had some kind of built in subwoofer. I thought those were mediocre, but now I can appreciate them more. This Sony has lousy speakers. Don't let the fancy trademark fool you.

FINALLY... the MAIN reason I returned this product. The screen. How is it that a laptop that is 4 years NEWER than my best one in our home has a screen not as bright, not as crisp, and lacks in deep blacks in comparison to the older ones? Shouldn't there have been improvements over the past 4 years? Keep in mind, we never have spent this much on a laptop.

Also, the screen had a blue tint that was impossible to adjust. We had to put the screen at its brightest, and it still wasn't as bright as any other computer in the house. It appears Sony has put cheap technology in this thing all over.

In conclusion, technology should ONLY improve over time, but this laptop was a step back to 2004 technology in some ways (obviously not the processor speed). I have to send this back because the the poor touchpad, the screen quality, and the processor created as much heat as my old Acer (one reason I really wanted a new computer... a burnt lap gets annoying). My wife also mentioned her opinion of it right out of the box was that it had a cheap feel. I don't know about that, but that was her input.

I'm regretfully sending this back. I REALLY wanted that Vegas movie editing software it came with too.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO E Series SVE14112FXB 14-Inch Laptop (Sharkskin Black)

I received this laptop a couple days later than was posted. But so far I'm pretty happy with it. Very good webcam, the keys light up when you type which is very helpful. I had never owned a 14 in before and thought that it would be too small but it's just right. It doesn't have a number pad to the right, so that's taking some getting used to. But it's very light weight and hasn't overheated. The only issue that I have with it, is that you have to push the keypad a little harder than on other laptops to get it to click. It's only been a few days, but so far I am satisfied with it. Will update in a few months if things change.

Granted you could probably get a better deal out there for another laptop form another brand with better specs. Trust me ive seen plenty. Yet None of those in this price range compare to the styling on this one. the wife loves the VAIO line, she comes form a VAio N which has served her well for the past 3 1/2 years. It took various drops and even one lcd change, but never failed her. So obviously she wanted another Vaio. This computer is a perfect size, 14" is a sweet spot for laptop screens. She is a fan of 15 inchers yet due to her carrying it around on our family trips and sometimes to work i wanted something lighter. This laptop is light enough to carry all day, and battery life is good, not great, but very good. We get around 5 to 5 and a half hours on it, surfing and watching youtube videos. Trackpad is good, not like my MBP, but very good for a pc. i3 processor is fast enough for daily use. I doubt most people need more. 6gb ram is great no need to upgrade for a long time. Keyboard is good and backlight is a plus. So far we are very pleased and like i said you might get a better deal specwise, but build quality at this price range you can't really beat and styling is an added extra. One thing you should know there is a bit of flex on the trackpad area but nothing we cant live with. Same trackpad on my work Vaio S13P does not have this but then again that laptop costs almost 3 times as much.

I really like this laptop. I did my homework before I bought it. Runs like new, Windows XP, few small, slight scratches. Good deal for the price. The seller was great as well. I think this laptop is going to be around for a good while.

This is an excellent little computer, albeit used. I still love windows XP Pro, and everything is as it should be. I am someone who uses some older, expensive software programs, and love that I feel safe using them on this computer.

Only real positive thing I can say is that it was very well packaged for shippment. The first thing that popped up when I first turned it on was a warning that the battery was approaching the end of its useable life. The second thing was it wouldn't connect to an unsecured network. The third thing is the two most used keys the space bar and the enter key are sticking. I had a very experienced computer technician stop by my office and he could not get it to connect to an unsecured network either. He has since taken it back to his shop to probably replace the wireless card. I wasn't expecting a new computer, but for nearly $300 I figured it would be a useable computer in good shape. Should probably have spent the extra money and purchased a new one, since I will now have the repair bill on the wireless card as well. It did have a short warrenty, but it took two weeks to arrive and I've messed around another two weeks with it now, so cannot afford another 4-6 weeks to ship it back and have the seller repair it. Very disappointing.
