I will give you guys a list of pros and cons of this laptop after using it for about 2 weeks and why I ultimately sold it. Before that though, let me tell you about myself. I am a tech enthusiast, and I have gone through a lot of laptops/ultrabooks including macbook pros and airs, asus zenbook ux31a, and lenovo yoga 13.

Having said, here is the list.

PROS:

1. Thin bezel. I was amazed at how thing the bezel was on the screen. It allowed them to fit a 13" screen onto a body designed for 11" screens.

2. Construction. This machine is beautiful to hold and touch. A mixture of aluminum and carbon fiber equals a satisfyingly premium feel. I daresay it is the best looking and feeling laptop I have ever used.

3. All the bells and whistles. USB3.0, backlit keyboard, WIFI/bluetooth. Everything you expect should be on it is on it.

4. Battery life. It can easily last 7 hours if you're doing basic web browsing, sometimes even more.

CONS:

1. The most important aspect of the laptop...the screen. Dell decided to cheap out on the screen. They used a 768p TFT glossy screen, which is the same type of screen found on the macbook air. HOWEVER, the Air's screen is made of a much higher quality TFT screen, and it shows. The Dell's screen has a very narrow viewing angle, and if you move a little, the colors on the screen will change. Also disliked the glossiness.

2. The 2nd most important aspect...Touchpad. The touchpad was absolutely horrendous. This is not because I am spoiled by the Macbook's touchpad. I loved the new Asus zenbook ux31a's touchpad, and the lenovo yoga's touchpad. They were both great. The XPS 13's however, was just terrible. Updating the drivers didn't help at all. The touchpad oftentimes would not recognize finger movements at all, even if I was pressing with a good amount of pressure. Othertimes, would do something that I didn't want to. Multitouch functions worked fine though.

Overall, I cannot recommend this ultrabook to you. The screen quality and touchpad makes it a terrible experience for the user. If you do get one, you should be ready to use a mouse if the screen quality doesn't bother you.

But no, they were not. The trackpad is awful. I mean it was failing to register maybe 20 to 40% of my touches. I tried many different versions of the Dell-provided trackpad driver to no avail.

Also, the screen is just gross to look at.

Lastly, Dell has "tweaked" Windows 8 so that you cannot use the built-in wipe/erase functions. I spent hours looking for a way to wipe the drive before sending back to Amazon (since, of course, it came with no reinstallation media). I did not find any instructions ANYWHERE on how to use the restore partition and upon any attempt to create a restore USB drive, the Dell utility failed to even see my USB drive. I eventually gave up and just sent it back with my data still on it.

Stay away.

They notify me the details right after I placed the order. In fact, due to suck USPS, my laptop was delayed for half a month. ( the tracking # shows it had been delivered, so we thought it had been stolen. But actually, USPS just simply left it unsent until half a month later )The seller did not stop following up, giving advice, trying to call, doing what they can. Great service. They will be my first choice next time I purchase a computer.

One tip: When purchasing a computer, make sure you notify the seller to add signature confirmation

I purchase a lot of laptops for my friends, colleagues, relatives and etc. But This one is much more better and cheaper than other comparable laptops. Bluetooth, webcam, card reader, dedicated num pad, metal cover, color and etc what I liked on that.

Great deal, recommend everyone, of course if the price is as low as when I bought it:-)))

This computer is beautiful looking and extremely fast....

The machines metallic surface is very pleasant to the touch and to the eye. As soon as I took it out of the box I as impressed with it. The dark brown color is truly handsome.

Without being extremely hefty, the machine sports a beautiful large screen and soft full keyboard.

This design and size and speed is without my favorite among hundreds of laptops I have used before.

It has a lighning Fast i3 processor.

And 2GB have proved enough for speed at least for me.

A definite winner....

very nice laptop comes as described, very light too its size is kinda big but its not very heavy at all, appearance is amazing too, very professional for school or work, the camera is awesome very clear on Skype. One bad thing is if you want to upgrade the ram there is no specific spot for it( the whole computer needs to be opened from the bottom which I think pretty much kills your warranty)!, one thing to note the computer at first froze a couple of times I thought there is a problem but don't worry though its a Microsoft windows 7 issue after several updates it works fine.

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS LAPTOP BEST FEATURES AT THE LOWEST PRICE HP IS THE BEST!

I got this computer after my 3rd Gateway died. My Dad recommended it to me after he bought one. I researched it and asked a couple of Toshiba owners that I know and took the plunge.

I love how fast it is. Multitasking is a breeze because of the i3 Dual Core processor and I love the look (although the fingerprints show up if you look at it too hard lol). I love the large hard drive and the speakers are the best laptop speakers that I've ever heard. It is also one of the quietest computers I've ever had.

I wish that the keyboard was a little quieter (it sort of clacks when you type) and I wish that the finish on the keyboard was different. I do love the offset numbers keypad, makes life a little easier.

This computer also has HDMI with CEC and I have yet figured out how to use it but it makes me feel better knowing that it's there lol. I would like to try Netflix or something on it in the future.

The webcam and mic are a little shabby but I don't plan on using it much so no big deal. The multitouch pad is boarderless which is great and has the finger zoom feature. I like being able to instantly zoom when I need to.

Overall, I love this computer. It has great specs for the price and is even a great starter computer. Having Windows 7 makes it a little more user friendly (I was powered up and surfing the net within ten minutes). I have recommended it to anyone who will listen!

I really like this computer even though I am new to Windows 7. I love the sound system so much better than my Sony Vaio. I like the screen size but its a little heavy due to the battery. Overall I think I will be very satisfied with this model. Consumer reports gave it a good rating for this screen size and overall Toshiba has the lowest repair rate also according to consumer reports. The missing star in my rating is just because its heavier than I am used to.

I had one difficulty and that was my old wireless router wasn't allowing this computer onto the network. It was found, but it couldn't connect. I recommend you call the manufacturer of the router because I had to download a newer driver so it could work. It cost me $98 but Toshiba couldn't have solved this problem for me.

This seller was a good seller and I recommend them. I received the computer faster than I had expected. And it was in its original factory sealed box, well packed in another box.

Have had this laptop for going on 9 months now. Bought it for $600 on a Best Buy holiday deal. Awesome product for the money even at $789.

This is my 6th laptop since 2001 and it's my favorite so far. I'm not a big fan of long posts so here it is:

PROS

Very long battery life

Excellent HD screen quality

The Harmon Kardon speakers are loud and crisp. Best sound I've heard from a mid-range laptop

Number pad on a laptop keyboard & overall good use of space for the keyboard.

Cool looking backlit LEDs that are flush some might find weird but I love it.

Didn't come with a bunch of crappy manufacturer software.

CONS

Big battery life = big battery. The battery actually puts the laptop on a slant, which again I like, but some may not. The only time I've found it annoying is when I use a slanted lap desk with it (double slant).

The touchpad/mousepad is to the left of the laptop. It's centered over the keyboard because of the number pad to the right. It took some time to get used to and I used to always touch it accidentally when typing causing some typos. After awhile I bought a wireless mouse anyway and turned the touchpad off.

My husband and I traded our terrible Asus i3 320gb laptop for this one. It's an all around great computer. We go to youtube, facebook, hotmail, our universities website to do schoolwork, we've installed the Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe and it's still faster then our Dell and Asus. Highly recommend this laptop.

The S6005 has many good featureslong battery run time, hdmi port, sata port, legible keys. Good performance. The bad side is the display: 1366 x 768. You run out of vertical space really fast at that resolution. Think I'm a wimp? You try it, tough guy. Also, it's impossible to position the display such that the screen has consistent brightness top to bottom, unless you're 5 to 6 feet away. Meaning when you use it, it will be dark on he top and light on the bottom. That display has an extreme vertical angular brightness dependency. I checked this with Powerpoint with a constant color background in slide show mode, which covers the entire screen. For white, yellow and red, the screen is perfectno vertical brightness difference. With dark blue, it's a joke. Midnight blue on top, with washed-out hazy sky blue on the bottom. Sucks if you're trying to show something to someone that involves blue and the hue matters. Like a movie maybe. Or a chart. Or a picture. With lighter blue, green, orange, and purple, the defect is there, although not as pronounced as with dark blue. My friend's 2005-era 15.6" Toshiba laptop doesn't show this defect, the resolution seems better, and the screen just looks a whole lot better. Why did Toshiba cheap-out the display? Not to save money or anything, I'm sure. Too bad.

Love my laptop. Have not had any problems with it. It came with Windows 7 loaded, but I am considering upgrading to Windows 8. Not in a hurry though. I take my laptop on my bike with me and it has about 4,000 miles on it so far with no problems. I would definitely recommend one to a friend.

The price is great but you get Garbage. Within 1 week of buying I see that the keys on the keyboard stops working. You will hit a J and it thinks you are trying to do F2 or screen swap. The only way to get out of this is to log off and log back in. The hot keys at the top of the keyboard are swapped. So F5 does not do refresh. I have never been able to successfully connect wirelessly with my printer. Now after about 2 years, entire folders disappear. What do I mean by that? Well you can go to Windows Explorer (file manager) and you can go to your My documents folders and you can see your "Kids" folder (as an example) but if you write a word document and then go to save it, the "kids" folder within your My documents folder cannot be seen. So what I have to do is save it to my desktop and then move it manually to the kids folder. This also means that for the most part if I want to send an email with an attachment I need to save to the file to my desktop to ensure I will be able to find the file to attach to the email for sending. I bought this laptop brand new and before this I had a Compaq Presario CQ60 that went bad a few short years after buying brand new. I am really starting to think I should avoid all HP laptops all together.

I have owned this laptop for a year now, and with proper care, it runs just as fast as the day I bought it, with the same battery still in it. It is a nice laptop with good features. The only thing I don't like about it is that the speakers suck. You can change them in the SRS sound settings, however they still aren't great. No big deal, I just use speakers. However, I would just buy the new model. They put the speakers above the keyboard (were I believe they should have been in the first place) in the new model whereas they are at the ends of the computer in this model. If you want to update to windows 8 you can, but I actually prefer Windows 7 because windows 8 isn't compatible with a lot of programs because it is relatively new.

You should also be aware that this is an HP computer, so the battery life won't be stellar.

I hope this helps

I'm a web developer/designer and consider myself fairly computer savvy. I have built several computers from the ground up and was surprised when I found exactly what I wanted at Best Buy.

I have been researching laptop computers for the past 4 months and consider the Sony Vaio VPCS111FM/S to be the best option for the price.

Pros: Intel Core i5 2.26 GHZ, 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB of RAM, 13.3" screen, 5 hour battery life, chiclet backlit keyboard, Blu Ray player, Video Card has 256 MB dedicated RAM, 2 year warranty

Cons: Price($1050.00), hard drive is only 5400 rpm and Out of date Bios that caused a minor audio problem

I was looking for a powerful portable computer that didn't cost a fortune. I found cheaper laptops that had the same specs but they were all 15" or larger which was a deal breaker for me. Also, most of these models came with a battery that only lasted 2-3 hours, which was also a deal breaker (the Vaio standard battery last just under 5 hours).

I think the reason this has received some bad reviews is because the installed bios and drivers are out of date resulting in a few minor bugs, most notably unexpected audio drop outs or a buzzing metallic sounds while listening to audio. The Vaio Update software that comes installed won't update the bios automatically you have to download the latest version from Sony's website and install it manually. This is very easy to do and after the bios is updated everything works perfect.

I have installed Gimp, XAMPP, FL Studio, Inkscape, Netbeans and iTunes and so far they all run better then expected. I also tried out the wireless display feature with the NETGEAR Push2TV Adapter that was included in the price. I watched some Netflix movies and it worked great.

I have only owned this machine for 3 days and so far I love it and am extremely happy with my purchase. If you are looking for a highly portable powerful computer for around $1,000 then this is the machine for you. I don't think you will find a 13" model with all the same features for the price.

Sony's Vaio VPC-S111FM/S does a good job of balancing weight and performance. I've used mostly Think pads and Dells for the last 15 years, so this was my first Sony purchase. Ultimately, I decided to not keep the laptop and returned it to Best Buy.

Strengths:

The keyboard is very good, but it had quality issues.

Keyboard back-lighting

Performance, 4GB RAM and a fast processor made this laptop nearly comparable to my desktop i7 Winx64 system.

Low noise. The fan and hard drive are very quiet.

Low heat. Never did the bottom of the laptop feel hot.

Competitive battery life. I averaged 3-4 hours per charge.

Low weight. This is one of the fastest laptops for the price and weight available today.

Wireless N performance was excellent and reliable.

Weaknesses:

Although the LED back-lit LCD has nice contrast, the screen is too reflective for my taste, and much more so than most Dell models that I've used over the years.

The keyboard is generally very good, but some keys (specifically the shift key for me) clicks and sticks. My keyboard may have been defective so this could be rare occurrence.

The Intel Wireless Display does not work well, and when it does, the video quality on our 47" HD LCD TV was that of an older DVD (video playback was also choppy on the remote TV). Additionally, nowhere are end-users told to configure the wireless connection to operate over the 2.4GHz band. If the default "mixed mode" or 5.2GHz is selected in the connection, the Intel Wireless Display won't function.

The battery didn't fit snug, so it rattled when you moved or handled the laptop.

The 5,400 RPM HDD is noticeably slower compared to 7,200 RPM systems. If I were to keep this laptop, I'd probably upgrade to a faster and larger HDD.

If the laptop's strengths listed above are important to you, and you can overlook the troublesome "Intel Wireless Display" and potential keyboard issues, then this laptop is worth consideration.

Best Deals for SONY VAIO VPCS111FM/S 13.3" LCD, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, i5 PROCESSOR

I have been using this new VAIO for the last few weeks and it is very well built. I read a bunch of reviews and message boards to see what I was getting and have not been disappointed. I bought this to compliment a desktop computer I recently purchased with an i7 processor and the i5 in the Sony is no slouch. It handles everything very well and gives me about 4-5 hours of battery life with a few tweaks to the screen brightness (and turning off the CD burner when on battery power).

I was a bit concerned about the keyboard layout since I have never used a "chicklet" style keyboard, but I think I type better on it than I do on most other keyboards, it feels so natural. The screen is very bright but just a touch reflective in certain light, but then nearly every laptop today is the same way. I think the only compliant I have is that I couldn't get it in black, but the silver finish actually looks pretty good.

I've had no issues with my computer whatsoever, wifi is blazing fast, bluetooth is seamless, card readers are automatic, etc. Some have mentioned issues with sound, that can be resolved with a driver update from Sony, and mine updated automatically on the first update so I never experienced the issue. All in all, I paid as much for this as I did for my desktop, but it was worth every penny...I might just give this one to my wife and get a black one once that is released. This is my first VAIO, but definitely not my last...VAIO's for everyone in my house from now on.

Oh and the wireless streaming of audio/video to the TV is pretty nice also. I compared it against the quality of the HDMI out port on the laptop and it was very close (tested using streaming video, there may be differences streaming other videos, haven't tested). The only downside of the wireless streaming to the TV is that the cursor lags on the TV so when you move the cursor, you have to wait a second before you see it move on the TV screen, but I mainly use it to watch streaming MLB games on the 52" screen and it has been flawless.

So I rate this 5 stars since it has lived up to my expectations in exceeded them in some cases. Like I said, this is my first VAIO, but it won't be my last, this laptop made me a fan.

Honest reviews on SONY VAIO VPCS111FM/S 13.3" LCD, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, i5 PROCESSOR

I'm giving this laptop five stars because after using it for a week, I have yet to find something to criticize. I paid $1049 at BestBuy, and they included in the deal the box for wirless streaming to your TV, which works well. One of the things that made this laptop stand out for me among all the choices in the store was the keyboard. Very comfortable to use, reminded me of the MacBook keyboards. The laptop is light, the screen colors seem great, and the computer itself looks pretty good and doesn't feel cheap. I do think that the speakers are a bit weak and tinny, but I was not expecting anything more than this. So, in summary, I got what I paid for-a powerful, well rounded, lightweight laptop.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SONY VAIO VPCS111FM/S 13.3" LCD, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, i5 PROCESSOR

Bought this laptop a little over one year ago. My older PCG-Z1WA (purchased in 2004) was showing it's age. Since I travel overseas 6 months each year, I'm a bit tough on laptops.

I liked the weight, looks and quality plus it's a Sony!! The only thing that I don't like is that I'm unable (so far) to get Solaris 10 running properly. Once that happens, this will be a 5 star laptop. Right now, it's a 4.8. Oh, and I could use a powered eSATA port, but other than that, this laptop is complete.

Having a laptop that is capable of 8GB memory and comes with a 500GB hard drive is great. The graphics capability is excellent, the auto-dim sensor and back lit keyboard is great when you're on a red-eye and having to do work. You won't disturb your neighbor (too much).

I'd buy this again, but the way Sony's have lasted for me, who knows what innovation they'll have in six years. I'm looking forward to their next generation. Maybe they'll have 500GB SSD as standard!

Great computer that for the most part does everything I need it too.

The Good: Under $500, i5 processor, built in webcam works well, HDMI output, 3 USBs, runs FL Studio 10 with minimal problems (would recommend expanding RAM to 8GB however), sound card produces solid audio quality

The Bad: Screen resolution isn't the best, the materials feel a bit cheap (expected for the dirt cheap price though), and I've had some trouble with the internet at times. I thought it may just be my bandwidth but I saw another review about internet connection issues so now its suspect.

Overall: 100 percent without a doubt worth the buy. Its a freakin i5 processor for under $500 you literally cannot beat this computer for the price.

Just wanted to mention the swapped Fn and Ctrl keys. Why Lenovo chose this keyboard layout is a mystery, given that all other laptops have Ctrl where you'd expect it in the lower left corner of the keyboard. Users have been complaining for years (just Google "Lenovo Fn Ctrl"), but Lenovo only very recently provided a BIOS option to switch the keys. This means you will press the "Ctrl" key and get the "Fn" function, and vice-versa. So visually confusing but haptically as you're used to.

This may seem like a little thing, but I had a Lenovo with this issue for 9 monhts and I still do Fn+C when I think "Ctrl+C". Unless this will be the only computer you'll mainly use, prepare to get annoyed by this keyboard layout oddity.

I had been looking for a fast but highly portable business PC for sometime. And although I have been a PC guy all my life, I had been seriously considering switching to Macbook Air, because of it's form factor. I even bought the HP slate 500, which is a great tablet PC, but is highly underpowered and at least at this time cannot replace a laptop. Finally, I looked at the Intel Ultrabooks and liked the ASUS Zenbook a lot. So off I went to Bestbuy to buy one. But when I actually handled these machines at Bestbuy, I noted that though the ASUS Zenbooks are really pretty and sexy, the sharp edges of their metallic body is a concern can almost cut through skin! While at Bestbuy, I also saw the 15" Samsung series 9, and was really impressed. I therefore did some research online and found that Samsung series 9 also came in much lighter 13.3" (2.55 pound) models. It's quite surprising that only limited information is available on the latest versions (i7-3517U) of this model the 13.3" model is not even featured on the Intel Ultrabook website! So, when I looked at the specs it was a simple decision. I bought the best available model NP900X3C-A04US (3rd gen Intel Core i7-3517U 1.90 GHz, 256GB solid state HDD) and got it a few days later. It's beautiful, solid, extremely well designed and light. I love the speed, quick boot up time and the back lit keyboard. The sound is also surprisingly good. I have not tested it's battery life yet, but it has given me a several hours worth of light office use without any issues. I would definitely recommend this machine to others.

I am a software developer and needed a second notebook as a backup and to use at client's sites. An ultrabook seemed to be the answer. I researched all reviews for several months, finally zeroing in on an ASUS ux31a Zenbook. I was concerned about mixed reviews concerning the reliability of the product. I started looking at others and heard a recommendation for the Samsung Series 9 ultrabook. After much research I ordered the i7 with 256 SSD drive. It was best decision I could have made. First, I was impressed that the product is packaged like an Apple product. I opended it up and did what most techies do, started removing bloatware and adding my development files. I now have it for several days and have made the following observations:

1It boots very fast and the drive seems to be very quick.

2The setup was easy and the documentation is clear to use.

3The unit is not only very light, it looks and feels very sturdy for such a small form.

4The screen is amazing...the colors are clear and I have not seen any pixel problems.

5The touchpad is OK once you get used to it.

6The keyboard works for me even though it is small. I am a two finger typist and I had no problem coding with it.

7The battery life seems to be excellent. It seems to be between 6-7 hours. I have not used it for videos but I would assume it would drain the battery faster.

Overall I am extremely impressed with the Samsung Series 9 i7 Ultrabook. Amazon delievered the product in 2 days. I definitely recommend this fine product.

Best Deals for Samsung Series 9 900X3C - 13.3" - Core i7 3517U (Model:

Following up on William's comments: I too have had this model for about 6 weeks now, and really like it! It is very very fast boot-up especially. I also like to run the Windows XP mode as one of my older development environments requires it. It's nice to be able to do this on one screen while the normal Windows 7 runs on the other (extended desktop). The built-in laptop screen is bright and crystal clear.

The only slight down side is the track-pad, whose operation leaves something to be desired. In fact I found that it was unusable until I unplugged the power supply for the laptop go figure! Working with tech support and updating the driver software did not help. Anyway, I use an external mouse anyway, but I thought I would mention this problem in an otherwise excellent laptop.

After searching for a notebook for a few weeks and reading up on them, I found an acer at best buy I liked. While there I searched the Best buy site and found this laptop for 429. Best buy wanted to charge me 69.99 for having it optimized already and putting the OS onto cds. I told them I wanted the advertised price and I can create the OS discs myself. Finally they gave it to me for the advertised price and I wound up having it optimized and the discs were in the box as well. Not bad!

This notebook can perform just as good if not better than the more expensive models? Oh yes. I am still trying to figure out why would someone buy the 800 hp over this one? The only difference I can see is that the higher priced HPs have larger drives, but who is going to store that much info on their computers? Ram is more important than storage. You can get a 1tb drive for 100 bucks. So no need to spend and extra 400 on storage especially when the ram is only 3!

I am so happy with this model. Fast, efficient, windows 7 is fantastic. Much faster than vista and xp. Sound is awesome. Very happy with this laptop and the money I saved. Highly recommend this one.

I'm generally happy with this laptop. I got it right after Windows 7 came out, and there are some challenges involved when using a platform that is so new. I have a very old multifunction printer that it had a hard time recognizing, for example. For some reason, I've also had a surprising number of miswritten DVD R's (-R has worked better than +R for reasons that I can't decipher). But the computer boots up very, very quickly, multitasks with ease, and has a lot of programs that I haven't even explored yet. My one true gripe with this computer so far is the speakers -they sounded great for two months, and then suddenly sounded busted. Everything I play now sounds weak and distorted. The bottom line is that you should decide what your specific needs are before investing in this machine, and pay more if you have more to spend because when a computer is cheap, there is always a reason why.

This is our second HP laptop after a series of HP desktops and current HP printers. Cannot say anything bad about them. I mean I bought the machine knowing its capacities and was not disapointed. Quality of build is good, we've had the CQ 50 139NR for over a year now, it is solid and doesn't come apart with steady use. Outside of more battery life, always want more, we have seen good products from HP. After 8 years we finally just scrapped an HP printer that wouldn't quit. On our Compaq Desktop (made by HP) I thought I needed service, (my bad) and they answered the phone quickly, and were able to remotely access my machine and then took care of everything, I just chatted with the guy over the phone as he cleaned up the mess I made with the software. Then the next day, HP service calls me just to ask if everything is working fine on my machine. A++ service too! I like HP, as long as they keep making good stuff and you can get their products at affordable prices!

If you put it in energy saving mode, the battery lasts for hours. It is not a gaming PC, but it meets the needs of an everyday user.

Although it is a refurb, machine appeared and ran as new. Enough RAM, CPU and graphics for almost any application. Display looks great. Even running modern games is satisfactory (so I hear after all, this *is* for one of my sons). For $340, this is a steal. I just ordered another one for my other son.

I am 26 which means I grew up with computers and I consider myself tech savvy. This computer looks nice but Windows 8 is so far from user friendly it is not funny. I have had this thing for over 6 months and play with it from time to time, but I still revert back to my 5 year old Toshiba for everyday use.

This laptop has been a great blessing to my family in saving money and as a Mother's Day gift. Both affordable, transportable, and the glossy red is perfect for my mom to know that it's totally meant for her. I'm not sure if Microsoft Office came with it but I don't think it did. Either way, they thought it was brand new and I'm satisfied. We can get Microsoft Office from a simple download.

firstly , was fast ship , and pakaged in a box with little protection but recieved undamaged. I especially bought this for its colors to match living room decor. looked new for being used. however , once i got going with it , found out why someone dumped it, had a virus that cost money to remove , and yet today has malware cannot seem to remove after several programs. it has pluses..it fast, good picture quality , sound , and runs quiet. very touchy pad..been times the page wiped off of the screen and had to bring it back . even with the bugs, bought a second one used , but this time made sure the dealer buying it from checked it over good or else keep it . so, they obliged and got a second one comming.promised better than the last. comes to uesed...buy at your own risk. good luck ..

I received this on 7/20/2013. I paid $671.00 which is a good price for the specs. I use it now to surf the internet and anticipate using it in the near future for class assignments.

Well I was going to give this 4 stars until the computer shut down only a few seconds after giving me a warning that my battery life is at 10 percent. It's plugged in now so here goes...

Well, this thing looks good. It's sleek, light weight, runs fast, fits in a large purse and has great screen resolution. It stays pretty cool to the touch. But battery life is a pain, especially since its overall design would make it a wonderful little mobile computer. I adjusted the screen brightness to below 50 percent and it still only worked for about 3.5 hours instead of the 5 hours stated in the specs. (My cel phone stays on longer than that after being charged.) There is an extended battery, and although it's not bulky, I really don't like the idea of having to screw the thing on to extend the battery life. I seriously considered returning this and paying more for an ultrabook with a longer battery life that doubles as a tablet. There is a touchscreen keyboard but I don't really see the use of it unless it can be flipped back like a tablet. You can't have everything you want at a certain price point but the battery life should definitely be better than it is.

This thing is nice. I was replacing a 4 year old Toshiba Ultrabook. And I must say, I'm really impressed with everything about it.

Its very slim and lightweight. Its just only slightly thicker than the monitor lid of the Toshiba I had.

Its powerful too. I believe the Windows Experience number is 5.9 for desktop graphics I think. I did hit a number over 8. I loaded up Skyrim to test. It automatically set all the graphic settings to low at 1080p resolution. It plays smooth at that resolution. I'm guessing I could probably bump up a few settings and it'd still be fine.

I loaded up Windows 8 on my Toshiba, and I hated it. It felt like two OS's ducted tape together. But figured it felt that way, because it was meant for touch screens. And the Metro side of the OS looked like it would be enjoyable as a tablet OS. But now after having this Acer with a touch screen, I still hate Windows 8. Its still two OSs duct taped together. The trackpad was doing things between windows that I couldn't understand. I had to look up the settings to realize that if you start your finger off the trackpad, and bring it into the side, it will scroll through previously opened screens. Was very frustrating. And after I tried to use it as is out of the box, I still did the same thing. So I shut off that option. And you know what, most of my grip with the system is about the trackpad. So I'll just stop because I could go on. Not saying it doesn't work. It does. Its just been designed to do way too much, and also mimics Apples single pad with clicking built in. I hate that.

Comes with an extra battery, which is nice. It takes a minute to figure out how its supposed to attach. But stays on secure when you screw in the two screws.

Also comes with a slip case. Its nice and snug. Will also work with the extra battery if you put the laptop in flipped around, with the battery hanging out.

Photoshop loads quick, and works really smooth.

Its a good ultrabook. Much slimmer and lighter than most of the ones you see at department stores. Very similar to the Apple Air. Also can't wait until Microsoft releases Windows 8.1, where you can boot directly to the desktop and they give you back the normal start button. Too many extra clicks to find stuff in Windows 8, compared to all the previous versions.

Acer Aspire S7-191-6640 11.6-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook

I've owned this ultrabook for several months now. I love it. I have a big, fast desktop w/ a 30" Dell (2960x1600) monitor but find myself using this little gem. It's kind of like a minicooper, i.e., fun to drive.

I love the screen rez and the quickness. I attach the extra battery and leave it plugged in when I'm home. That makes it ready to go on the road.

I use Start menu 8 (making 8 look like 7) because Win 8 has little or no advantage for me and I'm not into relearning for no gain.

I use a 64GB micro SD card (permanently resident in the machine), have a 1TB external drive (only plugged in when I heed stuff xfered from the big machine) and an external blu-ray player writer (just for fun).

If I could only buy an extra add-on battery and take it with me when I'm not near power, I'd figure this was a decent work-around for the crummy battery life.

Anyone know where to get such an extra battery?

Found one here for $150! http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/pd/productID.284286600/parentCategoryID.64391000/ yikes!

Bad stuff:

The keyboard has shallow action which requires some getting used to.

I've turned off the track pad (Fn + T keys) and use the mouse so that my hand doesn't activate the track pad when I'm typing. Plus it difficult to impossible to choose a small item with the end of your finger. So, I prefer and use a mouse.

The bluetooth mouse that comes with the ultrabook doesn't always connect quickly or well but I've learned how to compensate.

Bottom line: I like the machine and am glad I bought it. I'm hoping new battery technology and Intel's new lower-power processors will allow mfgrs to improve the time away from being plugged in.

Extra comment: I wish MS would stop making changes that produce little or no user advantages but are just different. I think we all know that they'd love to take over the world and have their system used on our phones, tablets and computers. If they had a real one-size-fits-all system, that would be fine. They missed that mark with Win 8.

DESIGN:

Super light, 1029 grams.

12mm thick

Very sturdy aluminum frame

Very hard to open, poor marks on this one (the trick is to put it on your lap and open it with two hands like a book)

Very finicky touch mouse, needs to be adjusted once you receive it

Need to get used to the keyboard, it's a mini laptop, what do you want? Once you get used to it, it's perfectly fine.

SPEED:

The time it takes to boot to the home screen from a cold start: 10.0 seconds

The time it takes to boot to the home screen from sleep: 2.0 seconds

The time it takes to fully shut down: 10.0 seconds

BATTERY:

Full charge, Youtube videos, highest quality, brightest and loudest settings: 2:00-2:30 hours

Full charge, MS Office work, brightest settings: 2:30-3:00 hours

Add an additional 2-3 hours to each of the above when using the external battery pack. Add an additional hour if using the lowest brightness and power saving features (you'll kill your eyes in the process though).

The included external battery (+190 grams) is tricky to get on. Find some videos on youtube for more info on how to get it on.

Battery charges quite slowly when you're using this thing intensively but very quickly when it's shut down.

HARD DISK/CPU/FAN:

You're down to 77 GB of usable space after installing all the updates. Super fast. Quiet most of the time unless doing something intensive, then you can hear the little fan buzzing a bit.

SCREEN:

Amazing HD quality. Sublime. For something this small it's utterly impressive.

DO NOT go off of other people's reviews (on other tech review sites) that claim such a resolution is way too high for such a small screen. That's completely terrible advice. As soon as you change the settings and increase the icon and font size everything is bigger than the icons on your local Ipad. Perfectly visible text and icons even at a distance with NO loss in quality. I.E. the icons and text don't become pixelated when you blow them up at the higher resolution.

TOUCH TECHNOLOGY:

Easy touch screen navigation. Screen is perfectly sensitive. Will smudge the screen with your fingers though but you won't notice it until the screen is black.

When you get this computer, and need to access the side bar, make sure to start swiping your finger from right to left just beyond the edge of the visible screen to make sure the bar appears every time, otherwise you'll get frustrated if you try to aim your finger to the very right edge of the screen every time.

It'll take some time to get used to the windows 8 touch technology, but in about 20 minutes of playing around you'll be buzzing around it like on your Ipad.

CAMERA:

Definitely not HD, but good enough for a quality Skype call.

SPEAKERS:

Loud enough for your regular movie. Nothing special but not that bad either.

KEYBOARD:

Nice backlight

OVERALL:

If the short battery life is not of a concern to you, this is hands down the best piece of machinery for a comparable screen size you can get for $750.

If you want a decent battery life with very similar other specs, you're looking at a $1,200-$1,500 machine.

Your call.

you won't find a better 15.6" touchscreen for ~$500. Three usb ports, HDMI port, internal DVD, 500+ GB HDD, backlit keyboard there's a long list of great stuff. it's fast, quiet, and doesn't put out much heat (no Dell thigh-burn here). i bought this for work and liked it so much after a few weeks that i bought another one for my family. expect maybe 3hrs on the battery. meh but that's the market reality.

only real peeve is the physical spacebar response on the keyboard can be erratic when typing fast it cangetannoying. also the trackpad is very sensitive. it can pick up a contact from your hands/thumbs pretty easily while typing and unintentionally move your cursor downscreen mid-sentence super annoying. basically, be mindful of your hand position while you type and be extra assertive with the spacebar.

overall though this is a great buy for work, school & general family use.

overall, the computer was good, just as described. light in weight and sleek look. Lighted keyboard and other features that make it look a worthy computer for the price especially. only setback is with Operating system windows 8, It became really had for my parents to adopt to the new homescreen as opposed to desktop and start menu in the previous windows versions. applications provided are only microsoft based. one cannot load a yahoo application based on another browser like chrome. then there is the issue of closing the windows. the x on the top right which windows users are used to is gone. closing different tabs and open windows is a nightmare. i found myself closing running applications through the task manager.

otherwise, the hardware is recommendable.

ill be more than happy if i can be upgraded to the newly released windows 8.1 which solves most of this issues.

Be aware this review concerns the SELLER Antonline, not the product from Acer. (I selected "Like" for product -but would rate the Seller, Antonline, "I hate it")

I ordered the Acer laptop in June as a graduation gift for my son. It actually arrived earlier than expected and was gifted a short time later. While the laptop seems fine in all other respects, it had one manufacturer flaw it simply would not charge. While plugged in, it operated well and my son loved the Windows 8 interface, but remove the plug and it would not operate. I tried to seek a repair or replacement under the factory warranty through stores local to my area. I was always redirected back to the original seller. I contacted Antonline within the 30 day guarantee window by email through Amazon. I then contacted Amazon to make them aware of the issue and they, also, sent an email explaining the issue. I received an email back explaining that my 30 days had been exceeded and, therefore, outside the return policy (Antonline was counting down from the "order" date, not the "received by" date). I contacted Amazon once again to determine when the 30 day guarantee begins and they confirmed that the guarantee begins the date of delivery to the customer, not the order date. They, also, sent another follow up email explaining to Antonline that I was within the return policy time frame and this matter should be resolved by them. I received my final email notice from Antonline explaining (again) that they do not follow the Amazon guidlines and, instead, begin the 30 days from the date of order, not the date received. (For clarity, the difference between the two dates was 3 days).

After contacting Amazon and asking what to do, I was told I would receive a total refund of the purchase (isn't this why we all LOVE Amazon in the first place?) and I could simply reorder the laptop from another seller. While that isn't the easiest way to resolve this issue, it is one way and I have chosen to do just that. It really seems as though Antonline went out of their way to not resolve a manufacture warranty issue that could have been handled simply and would have resulted in a sale retained by them, a happy customer with a good review and need not have involved Amazon at all. Personally, I would never order from Antonline again knowing their attitude towards the consumers they sell to.

If you like what this laptop has to offer as I did I suggest searching another seller on Amazon and find yourself happier in the end should you face a warranty issue as I have.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire V5-531P-4129 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

I purchased this machine from a different supplier but felt I needed to tell all how great the product is. I read all the complaints about windows 8 and almost didn't purchase this laptop. I felt that there were always people who complain about everything, so I took a chance. Boy am I glad I did. Before the laptop arrived I went on youtube and looked at instructions by Jay and I also have a tablet and am use to apps and a touchscreen. When the laptop arrived it took about an hour or so to apply what I had learned, what FUN, so now I am finding out new things daily. As far as the laptop its self, runs cool, great screen, love the lit keyboard, streams look outstanding.I am not geek just an average computer user who shops on the web, reads and sends emails, plays games, downloads photos, etc. I feel the complaints are not on the laptop but the OS, these are people who do office applications and are use to a different format, but for all of "us" average consumers, this is the affordable machine for us.

Super slim, efficient power usage, and Windows 8 is (mostly) a great operating system. I have 0 complaints about this notebook besides the few issues I have with Windows 8. (However, I still view Windows 8 as an improvement over Windows 7 overall).

A word of warning for the media user; the speakers are very quiet, and even at the highest volume, watching shows on it can sometimes be hard to hear. I use my iPod station as speakers, so this isn't an issue for me, but it's worth mentioning.
