User= CrematedFatedI bought this laptop to use for my online classes and personal use. I needed something that could handle the graphical payloads my classes would demand. So far this laptop has surpassed the bar!! I have all the respect for Lenovo and Computer Upgrade King. They both delivered a quality product. I am extremely glad I purchased this laptop.

Buy HP Pavilion dv7-7010us 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program After owning various other laptop computers (Toshibas, Gateways, etc.), I can say I'm sold on the HP Pavillion series. This is my second Pavillion laptop from HP, the first being the 11.6 inch Pavillion dm1 which I've owned and used daily for a couple years now. HP Pavillion computers are built sturdy and reliable, intuitive in design and simple to use.
This HP Pavillion dv7-7010 model has met my expectations and has been a joy to use so far. It's large! At 17.3 inches (on the other end of the size spectrum from my 11.6" HP) it's slightly less portable and versatile just because of it's size. The battery that came with it is also large, it has a foot that props the laptop up a bit--which was strange to me at first, but I like it. This also probably allows air to circulate under the laptop to prevent overheating.
Set up is simple, although we did encounter a hiccup with our model. When it arrived, I immediately began setup, which is as simple as loading the battery and plugging it in. Once I powered it on, however, the computer initially had issues and gave an error message telling us the hard drive was failing. While this was a major let down at first, it was resolved quite quickly by a call to HP tech support (I was happy to have my call answered straight away) and the tech had us disconnect the hard drive and plug it back in, then restart and see if it worked. The computer then started up just fine and has worked perfectly ever since. Apparently, this was probably caused by a loose connection due to jostling during shipping or something. Sometimes the hard drive gets disconnected slightly or wasn't properly connected at the factory. I'm happy to say that tech support was very helpful, and even offered to call back the next day to check and see if the computer was still functioning properly. Since then, as I said, there have been no further issues. My experience with the tech support was a good one, and I'm happy to report that is the first time I've ever needed to contact them, my other HP has had zero issues over the last couple years. So, obviously, I think this is a very reliable brand!
The screen is bright and clear (and large!), the sound is better than most laptops with it's fancy Beats Audio speakers, and the laptop itself is sturdy and good looking. One of the coolest features that is new to me as a laptop user was the "HP Simple Pass" fingerprint scanner. Located on the right side, just below the keyboard, is a little scanner that uses your fingerprint as a password! You can sync it to most accounts (Yahoo Mail, bank accounts, Facebook, Twitter, Paypal, etc). I think this feature is really neat and cutting edge.
With 6GB of memory, a 750GB hard drive, and ginormous screen, this would make a great laptop for mild to moderate gaming (or moms like me, who store a million and one photos and videos of their kids...)and young professionals. Due to it's size, this laptop makes a great desktop replacement. If you like the style of a desktop, but need a portable computer, this is a great choice. The Cyberlink You Cam software is fun, and the webcam seems to be better quality than on my smaller, older HP Pavillion.
The touch pad is smartly designed, a double tap in one corner will lock it, and you can pinch your fingers inward or outward for easy-zooming in, and two fingers drawn up or down controls scroll.
Though I haven't had this Pavillion dv7 for long, it's been impressive and met my expectations. I'll definitely update this review if I encounter any changes in performance or reliability. Since I've been using an HP Pavillion laptop for a few years now, however, I can definitely vouch for this series having a reputation of reliability and durability. I really love the HP style keyboards, too. I used to have lots of issues with my old Toshiba & Gateway losing keys like crazy, they seemed much more fragile.
HP is a trustworthy brand, in my book, and I'm so happy to have another great laptop from the Pavillion series. I would definitely recommend this laptop to those searching for a large, competent computer that will last you a long time. If you have questions I didn't answer about this product, feel free to leave a comment and I'll be happy to answer it the best I can.
UPDATE 7/26/12: I've had a request for photos of the battery size, which I've added and you can now see in the photos on this product listing. The battery does definitely add some bulk. That, and the size of the entire laptop, is why I suggest this might be the perfect choice for those who'd really prefer a desktop, and will mostly be keeping a stationary computer, but for whatever reason need to have it be portable from time to time.
Weighing in at over 6 1/2 lbs, this is really a desktop replacement and not a very travel-friendly machine. It's possible, but not recommended. I tried lugging it around for several days to and from the office on my commute and it felt very awkward carrying such a large contraption around. The protruding battery makes for an awkward handhold and may cause fitting problems with laptop sleeves. It makes the laptop look lumpy and causes an unsightly bulge in my Case Logic LAPS-117 17 17.3 -Inch Laptop Sleeve (Black)! The battery is meant to elevate the laptop off the desk and provide better airflow underneath, but it doubles the height profile. True to its claims, the CoolSense technology keeps the laptop operating at very cool temperature. By far, it's the coolest laptop I've ever used. I've had many lap cookers, but this one is comfortable and I don't have to worry about starting a fire on my bed or baking my thighs. It's been on for an hour and the bottom of the laptop is only slightly warm. Battery life is very good. At the 1 hr mark, it has only depleted 15%, but of course, this will vary greatly depending on what you're doing. I'm only typing in a browser, so I'm not demanding a lot of processing. If you're watching a movie or playing a game, the battery will drain faster.
I like the dedicated WiFi on/off button. It makes it easy for me to switch between WiFi and a hard line. I also like the integrated AuthenTec finger print scanner. It's the wave of the future (Apple recently acquired them for $350 million). You can login to your machine with it. When you login to a website for the first time, it'll ask you if you want to remember the password. The next time you come back to the site, the finger scanner will blink. Just swipe your finger on it and the system will login for you. The swiping isn't perfect and if you do it too fast, or are off-center, you'll have to do it again. This is a huge help because I have so many passwords to so many sites that I cannot keep track. You do know NOT TO keep passwords in something like an Excel file, right? Or using the same password for multiple sites? This finger scanner gets rid of that huge headache. The functionality isn't browser dependent. If you register a site in Internet Explorer, you'll be able to swipe if you go there in Chrome, or any other browser. Coming back from sleep, however, HP SimplePass failed. It did not recognize when I was trying to login and the sensor did not blink. Worst of all, Windows reported that the sensor was disconnected. I had to reboot to restore functionality. I will update my review if this keeps happening. So far it's only happened once.
HDMI is another great feature, if you do presentations or want to watch movies on your HDTV. A Blu-ray drive would've made this perfect as a complete portable entertainment rig. The speakers are loud and suitable for parties or presentations. Sound output varies greatly with laptops and I'm glad this one is loud. You'd have no problems hearing it from across the room at max volume. Other features: SD card is standard these days as is integrated webcam. It has three USB 3.0 ports to be future-proof, since most portable hard drives these days are USB 3.0. The new plug is up to 10x faster than USB 2.0. All 4 ports are the same, so you can still plug in USB 2.0 devices into the 3.0 ports.
I have not yet tested gaming performance.
DISLIKES:
The full keyboard, to me, is suboptimal and less of a blessing and something of a curse. As my first 17" class laptop, I'm finding myself having to relearn the keyboard layout to account for the extra keypad. My spatial memory wants to think that the keys just end before that. I rarely use the keypad on a desktop keyboard, so I don't need it on a laptop. The arrow keys are way too small in comparison to their importance, particularly the up and down keys, which are half the height of the left and right. I have to feel for them to locate if I don't want to look down. Other laptops have the familiar inverted T configuration. On a full-sized desktop keyboard, the arrow keys are usually isolated into its own block of buttons (just look down at your keyboard if you're on a desktop computer). Here, they are jammed together under the Shift key in a very cramped and poorly thought-out configuration. For gamers, this is very detrimental. It is also worth mentioning that my spacebar squeaks.
Another very big annoyance is that during typing, if you brush your palm even slightly against the trackpad, the cursor will get moved to another location. This has happened about 5 times as I type this review. I consciously tried to avoid triggering the pad, but all of a sudden, the cursor will pop to someplace new or click into a previously browsed page in my history. While trying to write some code in a text editor, the cursor kept popping to different lines in my editing window. This makes for a very frustrating experience as it's easy to just type over entire blocks of text and I have to spend time undoing the accidental typing. I've never experienced this ever on another laptop.
Pinch to zoom I didn't like at all and turned it off. It kept misfiring in Google Chrome and zooming my text up and down unintentionally. I highly recommend an external mouse, like Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse.
Space-wasting power jack: the plug goes in the right side of the laptop and sticks out another 2 inches. As if the laptop itself isn't taking up enough space! Most laptops have it coming out the back.
SUMMARY:
All in all, a very solid laptop with a lot of ports, features, and versatility at a very competitive price. Well worth considering if you're in the market for a new machine.
UPDATE 9/19/12: I left this in my office drawer for several weeks and then took it on a work trip, but forgot to take the AC adapter! It had about 35% power left and lasted a good 2 hours before shutting down. That's pretty impressive for the battery.
I continue to be underwhelmed by the screen and poor visibility unless you are directly looking at it. Any other angle and visibility is reduced.
UPDATE 10/19/12: I installed my first game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Runs very fast, even with all the graphics options turned to high. Absolutely no complaints here!
One of the features I hardly cared about or noticed, fingerprint scanning, has been one of the more use-changing features about it. It is great logging in to the computer, all websites and even opening custom sets of pages with a swipe of a finger! That's right, swipe your finger when you're not at a login page, and it opens the specific pages you choose! :)
This computer runs everything I wanted it to (including some high-demand CAD programs!). It is the "best of the rest" when it comes to mid-level laptops. The performance ratings seem to be on par with most $900-$1400 laptops for how I use it (CAD, music, video, browser, lots of specialized background programs such as flux and launchy). I have ran all of those run at once without any major slowdowns.
For me, this laptop is sleek and sturdy and light enough to carry around anywhere. I don't even bother carrying the cord. Want to know why? The battery lasts 7-9 hours with the way I use the laptop (normal brightness, lots of programs running). If I put it on power saver and only run a couple things, that can be stretched out. 7-9 hours of usage is plenty for most any given day while I am out and about.
The glossy screen is not ideal but if that doesn't bother you, the rest of the laptop will impress. This is the best laptop I've ever used. I wouldn't even compare this to a macbook air... macbook airs are not in this class of performance and capabilities. If this package had an apple on it, it would be, just rough guessing :P, $1800 or more.
So why did I feel the need to have a full-size laptop? I wanted the storage capacity for one. And this workhorse really has it 6gb of RAM and a 750gb hard drive. Plenty of room for all my photos (LOTS), all my music (LOTS AND LOTS) and copies of my reviews and other correspondence. Those are my main uses for the laptop.
I also wanted a larger keyboard and I especially like having the numeric keypad, too, since I have an accounting background and find it easier to use for long strings of numbers. I like the feel of the alpha keypad, too. Very nice to type on.
This machine is a monster, though. Who would have thought that 17.3 inches was so big...hmmmm...There are a couple of differing sets of outer dimensions listed on Amazon for this laptop so I went ahead and measured it again for you. What I come up with is 16 1/2" length; 11" width; 1 3/16" height at the front of the laptop and 2 3/16" height at the back of the laptop, which includes the battery pack.
One thing I found out is that this laptop is too big to sit on my lap and type in front of the television. Other reviewers who have said this would make a good work station computer are right. But I decided to get a small table to set this on so I could still use in the living room. I went with the 2 Smart Table Mate TV Foldable Adjustable Trays. Free shipping on the tables (I got two since there was a price break). Easy to assemble table, pretty sturdy, the laptop fits nicely on it. The table legs slide under the couch and I can see my TV over the open laptop.
One of the first things I did to the laptop was turn off the touchpad. Call me old school but I like having a mouse. I plugged in my wireless mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 Special Edition Wool Blue and I was ready to go. There's not a lot of extra room on my little table so I use the mouse on the couch. Works fine for me.
I guess I should mention set up. My husband is the tech guru in the house and got the laptop ready for me. He said it came out of the box basically ready to use. The only problem we had and it was OUR problem was we ended up having to get a new wireless router with more band width. Our old one was just that OLD and we had too many wireless devices using it. We got the new router and no problem. My husband downloaded all my old files onto the laptop and I've been using it since.
Things I like:
1. I love the big screen. Photography is one of my hobbies and the bigger screen is great for viewing and editing my photos. Great color too. It is also wonderful to watch movies, TV shows, You Tube, etc. on. Much easier to see than my netbook or the Fire.
2. Typing is much easier on the bigger keyboard than I am used to, at least once the touchpad is turned off. If you leave the touchpad on, you will find that you hit it with the palm of your right hand and the laptop then takes you all over where you don't want to go. I kept losing a review I was typing until I finally turned the touchpad totally off. Double tap on the top left hand corner of the touchpad to turn off (you will see a tiny red light come on to the left of the touchpad when you do this).
3. The camera is wonderful. It adjusts for light and the picture is then very clear for Skype or for videos or whatever you might use it for. There is a fun little program included with the laptop Cyberlink You Cam and you can do fun little things with your picture such as wear hats, etc. while skyping or taking photos.
4. I LOVE the Beats Audio system on the laptop. I am partially deaf and am NEVER able to hear on any of my equipment (until now) unless I put headphones/ear buds on. I don't even have the audio turned up full blast on this and I can hear just fine with no distortion. I love being able to listen to my music on it. There are four speakers two in the lid and two in the base and then a sub woofer underneath the unit. Great sound. I can actually hear movies I'm watching on it, too.
5. My husband played World of Warcraft on the system. Great graphics and sound, he said.
Some minor issues I've noticed:
1. The arrow keys on the alpha keyboard are not set up well at all. The up and down keys sit in between the left and right keys and are half the size of the left-right keys. When my husband was playing World of Warcraft, he turned off the numeric lock on the numeric keypad and used the arrows on it. Much easier for game playing, he said.
2. I wish there were a DVD/CD slot in the side of the laptop, having the entire system internal with an exterior eject button, rather than a disc tray that pops out. It feels a little flimsy as I'm pushing the discs down onto the spindle. Be sure to support the tray from underneath. It works fine, though.
3. There is a hinged cover on the left side of the laptop, covering the network jack. It opens easily but is rather difficult to get lined up and closed correctly. I'm not quite sure why there is a cover on this anyway. None of the other jacks have covers. This one has a rubber hinged little door that fits in slots. Or it's supposed to fit in the slots.
4. I really wish the keyboard was backlit on the laptop especially when watching movies. In the user manual, it says F5 is supposed to light up the keyboard. Well, it's not included on this unit (and it's not supposed to be as far as I can tell).
5. I do NOT like Windows 7 which is included with the laptop. I was perfectly fine with Windows XP. Watch out when you have multiple windows open they are extremely easy to close and thus lose information.
But, all in all, I am very happy with the laptop. I'm glad I made the move to the bigger laptop. I still miss holding the laptop actually on my lap and typing, which you can't easily do with this, but I'm getting used to the table. And the typing is much easier.
Oh, I got a great laptop case for this that looks nice and fits well. It is 17.3" Slipsuit Sleeve Red. Good price and very well made. The only thing that would have made it better is a shoulder strap. But I don't foresee traveling with this laptop too much. It is just too big.
I haven't had this too long. If anything else comes up, I will edit my review and let you know.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm a graphics/web professional and have owned many laptops over the years, from tiny netbooks to larger portables like the Macbook Pro 15", but none this large. At 17", this HP DV7 is a hulking beast. It's a beautiful machine with a beautiful wide screen, perfect for people who keep a lot of windows open. Most of the programs I use have a lot of menus and floating toolbars all over the place, especially Adobe Creative Suite, so a wider screen lets you see more of the workspace unobstructed. The machine is loaded up with plenty of hard drive space and RAM, so for it should fits the bill for most users. Set up was easy. It took about 15 or 20 minutes from unboxing to getting the laptop all configured and getting online. I find the contrast of the screen a bit low, however. Colors aren't as deep as I've seen on other laptops. Viewing angle is also limited. You have to look dead on at the screen at a 90 degree angle, otherwise the contrast and colors look slightly faded. In Chrome, under low light conditions, the screen kept adjusting the brightness by itself as I scrolled from top to bottom. I did not find a way to disable this.Weighing in at over 6 1/2 lbs, this is really a desktop replacement and not a very travel-friendly machine. It's possible, but not recommended. I tried lugging it around for several days to and from the office on my commute and it felt very awkward carrying such a large contraption around.
Honest reviews on HP Pavilion dv7-7010us 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is my first REAL laptop. I feel so grownup (about time many would say). I am not a technophobe but I am definitely not a computer geek either. I have been using an ACER netbook for quite a few years now. And I also have had a Kindle Fire since Christmas 2011. And a desktop PC I never use any more. I sit on the couch, watch television and take care of business (very slug-like I know).

Best ASUS A53U-AS22 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mocha) Deals
I ordered this laptop about 30 days ago and have been solidly satisfied ever since. I desperately needed a new laptop for home use and wanted a machine that was stylish, updated and could handle a basic level of tasks. I use this as my primary and only home computer (which doesn't say much, after work, I go home to veg. I needed a machine I could use while watching TV, use while half-sleeping on the couch and something to answer emails in bed after I wake up late for work/other commitmentsagain).
Pros:
It looks great! It has a distinctive mocha case with a nice detail on it. And, no it's not as light as the MacBook Air or something, but is easy to handle, travels well and looks sleek.
The screen is solid and is a nice size.
The laptop runs very, very, cool. I don't think that mine has even warmed up a bit.
Windows 7 looks great on this laptop.
ASUS has some interesting programs (crapwarebut not that crappy).
I can run MS Office programs, Google Chrome, IE, VPN access my work computer, edit web pages and listen to Pandora at once just fine (occasionally the Pandora skips, but that just might be the connection).
Cons:
The keyboard takes some getting used to. . . it's very wide, I tend to favor the buttons on the left and some of the command buttons are in areas I did not expectand on the way right. With that said, it's a little annoying but easily solvable (I just look down more when I am typing).
The speakers are really not that good. But not a big deal for me because I mostly use this laptop for general home use (to finish projects from work, catch up on volunteer stuff and to check email and my FB). With that said, if I ever felt the need to watch movies or TV shows on it or something, I would just plug in speakers.
This is my first computer with an AMD processor. It's alright and works for me. I can tell the difference between this an Intel processor thoughespecially when playing basic games and do worry that this laptop will become dated sooner than its Intel counterpart. But the computer has never crashedjust some of the games run a bit slow (READ: I am not a gamer, I am talking about basic silly free games). I saw a review that mentioned the screen cuts out or something like that. . . I noticed that it did reset once or twice while I was loading my files and programs onto the machine. Nothing major though, and this happens on my desktop computer at work too. . .
You have to make your own recovery disks. It took 12 DVDs for meand A LOT of time. Painful.
But all and all I am super happy with my purchase. Totally worth the price and totally stylish.
I installed the latest version of Ubuntu alongside the factory Windows install. In two weeks of heavy use, the system is holding up well. Some sites, such as Google Maps in streetview mode, render slow because of the weak hardware. If you're a gamer, you probably should not be buying this. If you're using it mostly for ordinary business tasks, this laptop is more than sufficient, at least under Ubuntu. Of the 4GB RAM, I have yet to see more than 2GB used at any given time.
I would consider other alternatives if you are planning to become a Windows 8 user, as I'm sure that system will be heavy on resources.
Playing the Microsoft version of Mahjong will give error messages of an overloaded cpu. I am not anywhere near being a power user with this machine. It is used primarily for surfing the net, checking e-mail and listening to music preferably at the same time. Sadly this thing is unable to keep up with that,

I purchased the A53U-ES21 but stumbled on this product with a poor review. This is exactly the same laptop that I purchased, this just has a larger hard drive (500GB instead of 320GB). Yes, this laptop is not lightning fast but it is a great laptop. I have not noticed any lag or times of no response. I did, however, format the hard drive and reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 7 (not included) because there is a lot of preloaded garbage on there.Best Deals for ASUS A53U-AS22 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mocha)
For a desktop Linux user, this laptop is perfect. It is virtually impossible to purchase a laptop in the U.S. without an operating system; however, Microsoft apparently charges OEMs so little for Windows Home installed on cheap hardware that it doesn't really impact the price.I installed the latest version of Ubuntu alongside the factory Windows install. I bought an ASUS laptop in 2006 and it is still going strong, including the DVD drive. I can't say the same for other brands of laptops that I have owned (after two years, the drive on my Compaq crapped out and HP was no help at all in trying to recover the driver). Windows runs a little slow sometimes and I get a handful of program not responding, but I'm not attributing that to the computer just yet (I'm still running an old version of office). What I really like is the light weight frame; I travel with my laptop and use it in the field so that is definitely a plus. The screen has great resolution as well.Saturday, November 1, 2014
Review of 15.6IN 3GB/160/WIN 7 64BIT
Three weeks after I received this laptop, it suddenly displayed the "blue screen of death" one night while I was surfing the internet. It never would re-start, even in Safe Mode; nor would it boot from the restore disc that I had burned. The only option Acer offered was for me to ship the computer to their repair facility in Texas, at my expense ($30). I did ship it, two and a half weeks ago, and still haven't gotten it back. If this is indicative of the kind of service and reliability a person can expect from Acer, I would recommend not buying one. There's a reason the price is low-you get what you pay for. At least with a company like HP, you can take your computer to a local authorized repair facility if something happens to it, and have it back in a short time. I wish I would have spent a little more money and gotten a better-quality machine.
As for the performance of the computer itself, the speakers are of poor quality (very quiet), so watching DVD's without headphones or external speakers is not enjoyable at all. Also, the DVD player lags/skips at least a few times with every DVD I've viewed; sometimes more often than that.
You can get new batteries and CPUs etc no problem. The motherboards and some of the other parts are starting to run out, and it's getting harder to find an actual new one of these now. If it doesn't come in it's box with clear plastic film covering the whole thing it is not new. If you can get a new one, upgrade the cpu, max out the ram, and throw an ssd in it, you will have a very decent laptop. The biggest bottleneck in this machine is the integrated graphics. the Radeon hd 3200 is not going to let you play new games, but the system is definately powerful enough for anything that is not too graphics intensive.
I like the asthetic appeal and overall design of the laptop. I have a sick gaming desktop and this does everything else. The bottom line though, even if you did get one new in box and spent another $150 bucks to max it out... that's like $600-$700. My newest phone is almost as powerful as this laptop, and $700 will buy something decent even if it's from the low end of a newer upgradable line with a decent parts pool. I'm only here because I have grown attachemd to mine lol. It's going to be sad when it dies, probably miss it more than my first dog. (knocked a star off because it is getting hard to find parts)
The graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 3200, and it's an onboard shared memory card. Usually those cards are "pieces of crap" but I was surprised with what I could do with it. But don't think you will be maxing out many games.
The processor is AMD Athlon 64 Processor TF-20 which is a lowly single core 1.66 ghz processor. Yes, that's very little but again I was surprised with what it can do.
Games I've played and have ran smoothly have been
-Guild Wars (Maxed out)
-League of Legends (Minimum Settings)
-Forsaken World (Medium)
-Starcraft 2 (Minimum settings) Note here: Single Player ran like a breeze, no lag at all. Multiplayer was differnt, it lagged some. I had to overclock the processor in order for it to play smoothly (and this isn't a processor that is meant to be overclocked so I don't recommend doing it).
-Dragon Age (Minimum Settings) This surprisingly ran pretty smoothly, some lag when in battles.
-Fallout 3 (Semi Minimum Settings) I only had terrain on medium here and it ran somewhat smoothly, it probably would have ran better if it was on low.
I also ran other programs such as Auto-CAD and Pro/E perfectly fine on this machine.
As for streaming videos this computer is finicky about it. Sometimes I can watch Starcraft 2 games in 720p on Youtube smoothly and sometimes I can't. The wireless works perfectly fine, no complaints here, except at my college where the wireless is horrendous.
TL;DR: This is a good computer for anyone if they don't expect to do anything too strenuous on it, just simple everyday task such as going on facebook or playing simple flash games. Like I said before I was surprised with what I could do with this computer. The website says 160gb HDD but it's really about 140 (but that's pretty much the same with all HDD's). If I'm browsing the web not watching videos with the brightness down I get about 1 hour 30 minutes of battery time. But that's also because I just keep my computer plugged in (about 40-50 minutes of life if playing a simple game such as Dungeon Fighter Online). It can multi task to an extent but this Laptop is severely limited by it's processor.
I don't know why the price is $450 now, I remember looking at this before and it was $400.
Also, I kinda wish this laptop was able to output HDMI, as it doesn't have the HDMI port.
As for the performance of the computer itself, the speakers are of poor quality (very quiet), so watching DVD's without headphones or external speakers is not enjoyable at all. Also, the DVD player lags/skips at least a few times with every DVD I've viewed; sometimes more often than that.

I'm not even sure why they call this a laptop because with less than a 1 hour battery life it certainly isn't portable by any means. Also if you have it on standby and not plugged in it will be completely dead by the time you go back to it, even if it was fully charged when you closed the top. The ac adapter pretty much just falls out with any little motion. It also doesn't have enough video card to play small flip videos either and it really struggles with streaming video as well. By the time you get a spare battery, new video card, louder speakers, etc.. you might as well have spent the money up front.Best Deals for 15.6IN 3GB/160/WIN 7 64BIT
I bought one of these new in 2009, and am typing on it right now. I love this machine and am currently looking for another one for when this one does start to have problems. The thing with this model is that it was released with 2 major variants. the single core TF-20 1.6ghz and the dual core TK-42 1.6ghz. the single core one is crap stock, but you can buy the best processor for the socket for about $35 bucks now. these things were $450 or so new in 2009. be careful when looking for one. if your battery dies fast it is because it's worn out or it's used and someone screwed up the memory in it.You can get new batteries and CPUs etc no problem. The motherboards and some of the other parts are starting to run out, and it's getting harder to find an actual new one of these now. Hardware is great, really small but deilevers a punch. However the mouse pad is exceedingly annoying. I carry my laptop everywhere and don't use a mouse, so this is aggravating. Don't expect much noise out of the speakers either.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for 15.6IN 3GB/160/WIN 7 64BIT
I actually won this laptop in raffle, but for what the price is on Amazon, it's well worth it. You can't expect a power house of a computer under $500 even from Acer. The graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 3200, and it's an onboard shared memory card. i love the computer it has everything i expect this is by far the best computer for the money i payed for $499 , just the only thing that i dont like is that the battery runs out in like 4 hours normal use but everything is great in this computer
Another big issue has to do with the mouse pad. My hands don't even have to be touching if for the courser to move, while I've been writing his it has moved my courser back into the middle of a sentence about five times.
It is also about a slow as my old computer which was four years old.

I got this computer in December as a gift. A month later the hard drive died. I'm not a computer person so I don't really know what happened, but it had to be replaced, and I lost everything on the computer. This is a great ultrabook if you are willing to upgrade it w/ a SSD (Samsung 830) and some RAM (8GB Mushkin). After that it's the most powerful gaming laptop will you need (for now). I installed Windows 7 on the new SSD and Windows 8 on the built-in 24GB SDD to dual-boot. It's very light and it's one of the very fun ultrabooks that can be upgraded. The pros:
i7 ivy bridge processor
Upgradeable memory (2GB + 8GB)
Upgradeable hard drive (SSD). Use the old 500GB with an enclosure for some portable storage
Upgradeable wireless card (maybe later to the 802.11ac standard)
Discrete graphics card Nvidia 620M
3x USB 3.0 ports
Normal sized HDMI port
1920x1080p resolution
Built-in 24GB SSD
Decent sound

After having this for a while I must say it is quite a good powerhouse after the upgrades. It's still not as powerful as my desktop but for travel it works great. The only gripe about this is that the trackpad isn't as good as what I would like. I would definitely recommend a mouse if you are planning to use it for long periods of time as the trackpad is very sensitive. Sensitive to the point when I want to double click that it moves the mouse ever so slightly and on this high resolution that slight movement will cause you to miss your target at times. Hopefully they will replace a software upgrade to fix that.
Everything else works as expected. :)
GENERAL:
Dedicated graphics card (nvidia GeForce GT 620M 1gb) covers all my gaming and graphics needs.
This laptop is beautiful. It is slim and feels solid. I don't believe in covers/protectors and have an affinity for deserts so it's been dragged around on sandy surfaces, gardens and roofs so the cover has faint scratches, but it's held up very well for all my haphazard abuse. It comes with a very nice sleeve for slipping into tool-filled backpacks. I was actually terrified at how thin the chassis is when I removed it for upgrades, but when tightly clamped to the rest of the laptop the machine is very solid. Yay structural engineering \o/
The 13" IPS display is perfect. The matte texture and 1980x1080 resolution are a righteous combination. For those you haven't experienced matte IPS display, it's such an upgrade from normal gloss screens that at times it feels like you're reading a Kindle. I never thought I've become a display elitist until I got this computer.
UPGRADING RAM:
I'm happy with my 6gb of RAM. I recommend Google to see how much RAM you /really/ need; even gamers only usually need 6 or 8gb. Unless you're CADing in multiple VMs simultaneously I wouldn't worry about it. If you do fall into this category, then be aware that there's a 2gb DDR3 1600Mhz DIMM soldered to one slot in the motherboard, which means only one of the slots are available for upgrade, making the max 2gb + 8gb = 10gb RAM. I've heard you can unsolder the RAM but I was advised by a EE that this requires the use of a reflow gun and may be a tricky operation. But if you are truly running applications that eat a monstrous 16gb, then you might have the means for the deed. And note that the soldered RAM is 1600Mhz and find a matching one, for best performance.
UPGRADING HARD DRIVE:
I replaced the hard drive with a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD and life is beautiful (: Restarting my laptop is about as convenient as waking it from hibernation. Samsung 840 Pro series is the best of SSD at time of writing, but if you're going for something cheaper be aware that the slot is 7mm tall, and check the SSD height before purchasing or you may have to do awkward modifications (refer to Youtube for guidance if applicable). You'll find that Samsung 840 Pro is usually on sale somewhere on the internet, and can find a 256GB for

Got this laptop in March ($1,249.99) and I've been so pleased! I'm here to share the love for this excellent machine (: It's difficult to find a laptop that is this thin, AND has a dedicated graphics card, AND has 1980x1080 resolution IPS display. Clean install your OS upon arrival and upgrade to an SSD and you will have an epic powerhouse in your hands.GENERAL:

Landel MailBug Email Appliance (LT-302W) Reviews
I have used the mailbug for the past 11 months, have bought 9 for family members and find the mailbug an unbeliveable tool for me at home. It sits in my kitchen and my wife and daughter use it daily.
My father is literally on the mailbug 5 times a day sending email, checking his stock and being a news buff, checking on the latest political happenings.
I strongly recommend this product for ANYONE that wants easy access to email and news, stocks, entertainment and weather.
GREAT product !
It's been a tremendous success! She loves it, and emails people all the time. I tried it and it's got great usability, the keyboard is very comfortable (standard-sized), easy-to-read screen. This is really for non-computer people who are comfortable being limited to text emails. It has very limited internet functionality (current weather, sports results, etc, all text-based). Anyone who likes to browse the internet or read/send email attachments should not rely on this device. However, as a text-message communication device, it's perfect. My mother has now owned it for 7 months and it has been running solidly the whole time.

My wife was always uncomfortable with my computer, but now she emails a lot with this nifty device. It sits on our kitchen counter. The use of the keyboard is not cramped like some of the other email appliances. The combination of Caller ID and email is godsend for my wife. The only minus is that we are unable to find a cover for the mailbug appliance. FIVE STARS!!!!Best Deals for Landel MailBug Email Appliance (LT-302W)
I bought this device for my mother, who not only is not a computer person, but is also a techno-phobe (she still prefers old-fashioned 'round dial' phones!). However, I thought this would be a good way for her to keep in touch with people. It's been a tremendous success! She loves it, and emails people all the time. Honest reviews on Landel MailBug Email Appliance (LT-302W)
We purchased this for my 80+ year old mother-in-law who has no computer experience thinking it would be simple to use and practicle for sending messages to 4 5 family members around the USA. It was fine for about two weeks then the email account was inundated with SPAM. Mother-in-law could not cope with this and the service provider has NO SPAM filter nor any solution for the problem. We cancelled the email account and removed the appliance from mother-in-law's residence.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Landel MailBug Email Appliance (LT-302W)
My wife's been using this little device for close to a year. It is what it says e-mail only. And that means no HTML, no attachments, no graphics, just text. It's very easy to set-up and use. My only complaint (because I had low expectations) is that you cannot set the automatic mail checking interval it is set at about every 3 hours. One nice extra, though we've got voice mail on our home line and the MailBug detects the odd dial-tone and indicates messages waiting. NOTE: The reason I'm even here writing this is because I'm trying to find the seller Landel or the service provider MailBug.com to re-subscribe. I CANNOT FIND WEB SITES FOR EITHER COMPANY. So, unless that's a temporary problem and you do find them, beware. MEPTuesday, August 12, 2014
15.6" Notebook T3100 Blk/Gray Review
I bought this laptop from tigerdirect and i am very pleased with it. For under 400 dollars this thing is a beast. The dual core celeron is fast and it can be overclocked to around 3 ghz. The laptop is light and has good build quality too. I would recommend this laptop to any average consumer.
first, the good: battery life is great. not record setting, but perfectly acceptable. I was skeptical of windows 7, but it's turned out to be pretty damn solid.
the guts are quality components. i've had zero issues with any of the hardware. it's fast and just all around good.
now the bad:
this is an off brand laptop, so you wont be getting apple or dell build quality. it's a bit flimsy. the display is not good. it has an extremely limited vertical viewing angle. blacks are more gray than anything. it only looks good viewed dead on in a semi-dark room. the trackpad is inaccurate and it is not possible to disable tap-to-click. this wouldnt be a big deal except that it is very easy to brush it when typing, which will move the cursor to wherever the mouse is. this is a constant pain and the #1 thing i wish MSI would address. I have buttons for clicking, I do not need nor want tap-to click.
everything else is fine the HDMI is sweet, the optical drive is fast and capable, 3gb is plenty of RAM, and the hard drive is adequate. the keyboard is acceptable nothing special, and it takes some getting used to it being offset due to the numeric keypad.
but it's cheap. damn cheap. cheaper than any other similarly spec'd laptop. and that is its saving grace.
you have to understand, MSI is not traditionally a laptop manufacturer, they are laptop assemblers. this computer is cobbled together from whatever parts they had laying around, thus the wonky numpad keyboard and subpar trackpad, as well as lack of drivers and support. it is what it is cheap with good specs but disappointing execution, all of which can be forgiven when you consider the price. would i recommend this laptop? not really. I'd throw another $100-$200 and get a dell if I could go back. but it's not terrible. if you know cars, you know the toyota corolla is a solid vehicle. well, think of this as a geo prism, a corolla clone, rebadged and done up with a cheaper interior. but under the hood it's still a corolla.
one last gripe the friggin LEDs under the mouse buttons are bright as hell and completely useless. I covered mine up with some electrical tape.
Beside from the pro which is surprisingly cheap for a poor college student, there are tons of cons:I constantly have to restart because some internal problem . The build quality is cheap and the customer service will not do anything about it because they will blame on you for physical damage . My problem with this computer build quality is that the frame glue came off less than 1 year use. The lid have some problem with closing ( One side of the lid joint wont move) and plus, I have some hard time with keeping the lid open on it all at some angle ( and yes, within one year of use, no abuse, no dropping)
I would advice not to purchase this product AT ALL, you dont want to mess with their customer service
With his celeron processor, give's an excelent option for internet and multimedia.
And inlcudes webcam and microphone built in, so you can use skype, or other videoconference with an excelent performance
An excelent computer, with a very low price,
I was familiar with MSI , i have owned there mother boards , the computer i am n fight now has a MSI video card , so i knew what type of quality they produced .
it like anything electronic , the more you spend the more you get 1 i think for the money this vomputer comes with plenty of goodies . its not a slow computer, has a express slot , HDMI, web cam and mic ,,, comes with Windows 7..
I wasn't looking to spend a fortune. So I am happy with it.

I was impressed of Taiwan brand like Asus because of the build quality. I thought of giving MSI a try since it s also make from Taiwan and it has a reputation for great motherboard. An excelent option, very low price and a great performance. It's easy to carry, only 4kg. The only problem it's that the battery lasts only 2:30 hours of activity, but if you customize the power saver option, and decreese the processor level to a 50% of maximum, usage, the battery last up to 4 hours. With his celeron processor, give's an excelent option for internet and multimedia.

Just frustrated that I had to spend $900 plus to avoid Windows 8. Windows 8 is so much cheaper right now if your willing to deal with it. Also, the computer touchpad seems to have a cheap toy click to it. Anyways....I was in a hurry to complete a project and my other computer had crashed. So, I only have myself to blame for not shopping around, which I recommend. The seller was great at a quick delivery, which I really appreciated!Best Deals for HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Notebook PC w/Blu-ray & DVD burner
The specs and the price of this notebook is gr8 it has everything you need except for a backlight keyboard and a built in 3g/4g modem wich is not a big deal. the real problem with notebook is that the gpu will not run opengl software like all adobe software, most profesional graphics software and some games. instead it will run on intel gpu and there is no option to manually set use amd/ati card. a complete waist if you need opengl other wise a great machine.Tuesday, July 15, 2014
Cheap Toshiba Satellite L635-S3040 13.3-Inch LED Laptop (Fusion Finish in
First off, I came from owning a Dell 9100 Inspiron--we're talking 9 pounds, just for the laptop, nevermind the power cord and case and any other accessories. I thought of going down to a netbook for what I usually use my laptop for, but then I thought: "What if I wanted/needed to load my Adobe design products? So I thought, although I may not, I should get something that is powerful enough to handle some of my design work, but still be very portable.
This is a nice little computer. The feel of the keyboard is good. The screen is excellent. The processor speed seems fine, even though my Dell had a 3.2 processor. Somehow or another, I keep making the screen reduce in size. (Probably just need to get used to what I'm doing.) The speakers are not very loud. All in all, I think it is a good value for the money.
Pros:
The laptop is very small and compact making it very portable and easy to travel with.
The battery life is quite remarkable and surpassed my expectations based on other reviews. When on the "balanced" power option, the laptop does 3hrs and 30 minutes of continued use easily.
Good web cam quality. Face recognition software is a nice addition
Headphone jack sounds amazing with headphones, I've compared this laptop with my Ipad's sound with the exact same pair of headphones and this is the winner by far.
Nice, clean and simple hardware design.
Cons:
The speakers on this laptop is absolute crap, my previous laptop was an HP with the integrated Altec speakers which were pretty amazing. This is a huge step down.
The first 2 days that I listened to music on this laptop, the music would freeze for a half second and make a buzzing noise which was EXTREMELY annoying. I did some research and many others seem to have this problem. Since then the laptop has sorted itself out.
Excluding the slight audio problems, I have no regrets about purchasing this product so far and would recommend it to any person who is looking for more than a net book but less than a Heavy duty laptop.
excellent service quick delivery as promised
small enough to be portable, large enough to be functional
Everyone else loves it I don't get to use it much. :)

The audio in this laptop is the WORST! When you open some programs while you listen to music, the audio gets cluttered! and its very annoying... Also, the FAN in this laptop is ALWAYS ON! No matter what you do, the fan is always running.... making it very uncomfortable to take notes on classes etc.. since it produces a lot of noise which will force you to put the laptop to sleep! I do not understand why they programmed fan to run all the time... I understand the laptop produces heat, but that does not mean the fan has to run all the time and make it uncomfortableBest Deals for Toshiba Satellite L635-S3040 13.3-Inch LED Laptop (Fusion Finish in
I've had the laptop for a little over 2 weeks now and I am very satisfied with what I received, especially for the low price of $585. I'm a college student and the laptop satisfies every need. I have not tried many programs which heavily utilize resources such as the adobe cs5 suite but the PC has easily passed every test so far without stumbling once.Pros:

For some reason I found this laptop $200 cheaper than anywhere else at the time. Christmas gift for the family. works great larger screen for the size of laptop. I was looking for something that wasn't too bulky, but I didn't want a tiny lap top. Also has built in DVD burner player. great inbetween size. I'm not taking the time to look up specs now, but as I remeber this had better performance and more memory than other ones I was looking at. Great PC for the money.Everyone else loves it I don't get to use it much. :)

The back-lit keyboard is perfect.
I bought this after going through the Dell 15R, and Lenovo GS500.
Processing speed is ok.
However, get an external mouse handy at all times. Trackpad, while large, is not as smooth as it looks.
Vertical/horizontal scroll is very spotty. Only works about 15% of the time.
I've gone through blogs that suggest update the driver, which I did. It still has the issue.
Best thing to do: Buy this from a store that accepts returns well after 30 days (i.e., Costco) so you can return it and avoid technical support denials.

I love Lenovo Laptops. The ones with the "uni-trackpad" are my least favorite but if you use a wifi mouse that's not an issue anyway.
THIS laptop has a separate pad and mouse buttons and everyone I know likes that better. No accidental click, or re-sizing happens that way.
The Core i3 is fast enough for everything most home-users need and even small businesses. I prefer the Core i5 for business use, but the Core i3 is NOT a slow processor it'll get the job done.
I ALWAYS remove the Lenovo Solutions Center and McAfee Antivirus (McCrappy). The Lenovo Solutions Center is just annoying with it's daily announcements and updates, and McCrappy just sucks :) I install AVAST Antivirus Free Edition and it's flat-out amazing.
Once the Lenovo bloat-ware is out, this is a great laptop and a pretty good price too. I recommend it.

Review of ASUS N43SL-DH51 14-Inch HD Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Silver
The laptop has great performance. The I5 processor and 6gb of RAM goes a long way. The screen and speakers are crisp. The only thing that I did not like was to use the bluray player you have to buy an update for the current software on it. I guess I'll have to find another program. All around good, a little big for my tastes.
