Wallmart 478.00 laptop and its screaming fast and plenty powerful for any daily use, and perfect for the typical gamer, may be a little week for the hard core gamers, but I can run DMC and DarkSiders all on High rez (not ultra) with no noticeable lag

The Sony VAIO SVE1411BFXW has a very nice look. The laptop , however, is fairly slow with respect to Intel Core i3 4GB. Also, it gets hot very fast and the fan cannot do very much with that. Another minus is NO CD installation for operating system (Win 7 Home Premium) went along with the product.

I had been researching laptops for more than a year before I bought this one. After buying my son an ASUS UL50VT for Christmas after extensive research, I was hooked on ASUS. Good reviews, nice design, good performance. My laptop needs are viewing movies and shows, heavy surfing, downloading and burning, playing music, and light gaming. This is perfect for my needs.

The first thing I noticed about this one is the keyboard; it is a 'chiclet design' with wider caps which make it extremely comfortable for typing. A lot less errors on my part. The ELAN touchpad (smartpad) is super. For the last year, I have borrowed a friend's ACER and his touchpad drives me crazy. It zooms, the cursor moves and jumps about all the time, frustrating me to no end; I finally had to disable it completely. With this computer, palm detection notes the difference between the palm and a finger so that the cursor doesn't jump around while typing. You can also do pinch and zoom. The large palm rest area is supercomfortable as well and minimizes smudges, unlike the rubbery type ones you see which I hate.

I like the Power4Gear which allows you to select your desired processor mode to conserve battery life and have fan power adjusted. Very handy. The Intel I3 Core is more than enough for my needs, lightening fast, and the NVIDEA GEFORCE 310M graphics is excellent for the light gaming that I do.

The sunken hinges enhance viewing by providing a wider more comfortable and less distracting viewing experience, as well as making the laptop look much more visually appealing and sleek. The sound is great (SRS with ALTEC lansing speakers) for media and music. The computer is really sleek and cool looking and my son prefers it to the design of his.

The first thing that I didn't like is the screen brightness; unless I have it on full brightness, I can't see it. It seems to be dimmer than others I have used, even on full brightness, but maybe it's my imagination? I had it side by side my friend's ACER, with the annoying touchpad, and my son's ASUS UL50VT and both of their screens appeared brighter.

My major disappointment is the battery life, despite a little sticker on the computer that states 'great battery power' or something like that. With screen brightness mid range and just using it for moderate surfing and office applications, the battery only lasts two hours. I had expected more. Another annoying thing is the frequent disappearance of the power icon in the taskbar; the setting to turn it on in the taskbar is greyed out. After googling some forums, I followed the recommendation, logged off and back on. Bingo, the power icon was back. But since the battery life is a disappointment, I don't want to be fiddling around trying to see the power icon to have notice of when it will die.

Conclusion: excellent value. Biggest PRO: other than the speed of I3 (and it is really really fast), it would be the touchpad and keyboard. Biggest CON: battery life.

I have had this product for two years now. In fact, my two year warranty ran out four days ago. However, I am having hardware failures for the third time since my purchase.

I work in IT and take very good care of this notebook. It never leaves my desk unless I am travelling and I am careful to keep the notebook safe while travelling. I keep my computer free of viruses and malware and regularly clean it with CCleaner and a disk defrag. However, one year after my purchase my hard drive was the first piece of hardware to fail me. I sent in my notebook and two weeks later received my notebook with a new HDD.

A few months ago, my notebook started failing again until it finally would not boot at all. I sent it in and again they fixed my issues and sent me back my new notebook. However, they only replaced the motherboard and the back of the laptop and did not fix the cracked casing around my screen or the dead pixels on my screen like I had requested.

Now, four days after my warranty has run out, my battery has stopped charging and my computer will not turn on unless it is plugged in. This is generally fine for me although it is an inconvenience. However, my HDD also seems to be failing as it has started making clicking noises that are a sign of it failing and documents have been taking far to long to pull up. I contacted Asus support and even though my warranty so recently ran out and I've already had to send in my notebook twice for issues that never should have happened in the first place, they refuse to provide me with service.

In short I do not recommend this notebook to anyone looking for a quality PC. The parts must be terrible quality to fail so quickly and the customer service I've received has been terrible in comparison to any other company I've ever dealt with.

I have had this laptop for several months now, and I must say I love it. It took me a long time to even consider buying a laptop since they simply do not have the capacity of desktop computers. However, after owning this ASUS K52 I have become a believer. The layout is great, the design is sleek, and the performance is above my expectations.

Layout and Design: The layout of the laptop is great. The keyboard design is large and spacious enough that my fat fingers do not make the typos I typically make on other, smaller, designs. It also has a full numpad, which is a feature I truly hate not having available. The screen size is plenty big enough to browse the internet, write papers, and/or play games with ease. It is also a sleek and cosmetically pleasing design with rounded edges and corners.

Performance: Now on to the most important aspect of any computer, its performance. I have been able to run any game I have desired to play (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Star Wars The Old Republic) on medium to high settings without much in the way of slow down and frame rate issues. I haven't had any problems with the hardware malfunctioning through all the use I put this thing through. It boots fast, and it plays fast. I also use this computer for all of my many school papers, payments online, and pretty much everything you can use a computer for these days. It has never failed me and continues to perform today as it did the first day I received it.

Conclusion: Overall, it's a great piece of machinery. I love it. It serves all of the purposes I have had for it. There are more pricey laptops out there with a bit more power under the hood, but I have found this one to have plenty to run all the games I love and to quickly and reliably completely all the other tasks I have had for it.

I ordered this two years ago for my grandson, the gamer, for Christmas. It is still working just great and was perfect for anyone who needs a computer for playing games! He loved it and still does!

Unless you turn speed step off in the BIOS this laptop will overheat as soon as you reach 20 min watching a video, or video conferencing. This causes the 1.6GHz processor to run in the 900MHz. Another thing to note is that without turning off speed step the Clock speed is actually in the 2.5GHz witch is strange to say the least. The average temp of the processors are 65-70 Celsius with speed step off. With it on it easily reaches 89C-90C until 100C and shutdown. I never complained to Dell, by the time I realized the issue it was passed the 1 year warranty.

I've had 5 Dells. 2 have overheating issues, 1 completely failed. And 1 had a HD fail, which was replaced. They were: Dell Inspiring 1500, Dell XPS GEN 4, Dell Studio 1557, Dell Duo, Dell 11z. If you know how to fix it... Take the risk in a Dell as they are cheap. Otherwise avoid any Dells or any HP machines.

well, i bought this online but when i went to best buy i felt i could have got a better deal. The laptop is a bit on the heavy side and the battery is large (great battery life) but there is a bulge on which the laptop rests. This makes it a bit uncomfortable when you put it on your lap.

I recommend thinking of the DELL xps instead. It is lighter and has better aesthetics and just a 100 dollars more or so

Had this laptop for 2 days now. It could be really good, but it has several design flaws that are annoying. The front corners are very sharp and hurt my wrist when typing. The touchpad is really bad. Almost unusable. It also attracts fingerprints like crazy. Completely unacceptable for a $3,000 laptop. The backlit keyboard cannot be turned on permanently, but shuts off after 60s. The first two carges, the built in battery lasted 2.20 and 1.55. Soooo far off the advertised 4 hours plus without any hard tasks run.

The laptop has great performance. The I5 processor and 6gb of RAM goes a long way. The screen and speakers are crisp. The only thing that I did not like was to use the bluray player you have to buy an update for the current software on it. I guess I'll have to find another program. All around good, a little big for my tastes.

I bought this laptop since my brother who is a tech guy told me to get Asus. I did what he told me! And he is right, it is very fast and a good little laptop. The 14" screen is perfect for my use and makes it more portable. The i3 processor is everything that I need. I don't know how many laptops have the smart login, but I love using it. It's just a smooth, fast computer and I have no complaints. My brother told me it would have been nice to have a 3.0 USB port, but I can't say I'm missing it. I highly recommend!

Bigger than I expected ... The screen has a large border (.7" sides, 1" top & bottom). 14.1 Dims about the size of a 15.6 overall (I'm glad I waited to buy a case).

Big difference in speed with the 2nd gen i3 / 'sandy bridge' ... nice.

Display is fine (it's not high-end, but it is crisp and clear, & I don't wanna pay big bux)

The multi-functional keyboard might take some getting used to.

I needed something tough, quick, & mobile ... this is it.

This is one of the nicest laptops in the market. don't go for other brand names.....grab this one and stay cool for at least 2 years. the build quality, components, the feel...everything is nice. little bit heavy (5 lbs) but that's okay for me. the only problem ive is with the screen quality. but that will be the same for any other 1366x768 LED display. i purchased one Gateway ID series but returned it due to display issues. now im happy. You will be happy too if you get the P43e-XH31.

Honest reviews on ASUS P43E-XH31 (14.1-Inch Screen) Laptop

The laptop multi tasks very well but is slower than my 3 year old pc when it comes to simpler tasks. Start up takes far too long for a new computer. This could be an OS issue since this is my first pc using Windows 7. Battery life is just ok.

09/30/12

I have to add that this computer is very good at multi tasking and is basically as advertised. I don't think it is a bad pc and have adjusted to it. I think many of the speed concerns I had initially are Windows 7 related. After a few months with the PC, I have settled on the main issue and it may seem trivial, but it is the aesthetics. The black exterior case is ok when closed. It is the key board and touch pad that are the worst. I never thought this would bother me, but in using my PC for work and in front of clients I find this machine embarrassing. This must be the cheapest, loudest, lowest quality, looking like it came from the 1990s keyboard ASUS could find. Maybe they were paid to use it, but it flat out sucks. Then the touch pad looks filthy no matter how clean your hands are or how often I clean the surface. The click from the pad is loud and hollow and signals to everyone around me that I have a POS laptop when if fact, it works quite well. It bothers me so much that I am going to try and have it replaced. I had to share this because all the reviews I read were very positive when it came to performance but none addressed how cheap these two areas look, feel and sound.

I purchased this laptop on Amazon as a "Like-New" display model for less than $350 for my fiance to upgrade from her dinosaur of a Dell laptop from 8-10 years ago and her little 9" laptop that she also has. This one blows both of those out of the water. Take note that I do an incredible amount of research on any product that I purchase be it a $5 pair of socks or a $1000 television. I like getting a high quality product (which this laptop definitely is) at a bargain of a price.

The laptop itself is very stylish with a dark black textured shell. For my fiance, it is the perfect size to give performance while also allowing for portability by not having to carry too much weight or taking up too much space in her backpack.

The screen is very bright and vivid making movie watching experience great.

It has 3 USB ports 2 on the right hand side towards the front of the laptop and 1 on the left towards the front.

This laptop also features the VGA and HDMI ports on the left side towards the front in case you would like to hook the laptop up to a different display.

The touch pad is skewed just to the left of the center of the laptop. This does not bother me, but my fiance complains about her left hand constantly bumping it and moving the cursor while writing papers. Another note on the keyboard is that there is not a numpad on the right hand side. This does not bother my fiance as she never uses it even if there is one; however, I prefer having one. As a 14.1" laptop I am unsure as to whether any carry a numpad, but if I were buying for myself I would jump up to a 15.4" which does have the option.

We have not had any problems with temperatures running too hot even after a few hours of constant use. Anything more than that we use cooling pads merely as a precaution so I cannot say if it will continue to stay cool after several hours of heavy use.

It has a great battery life. Depending on the settings and what you are doing, this laptop can easily run from a few to several hours on battery alone.

The 4GB of RAM is also plenty you could probably run many games on low settings without a problem. However, this is by no means a "gamer's" computer. For someone looking to buy the computer as a business/school/social media that can also play games like League of Legends or possibly even WoW on low settings, this laptop will do the trick. The 500GB hard drive is also plenty, if anything more is needed there is always the option of an external.

One of the best features that one should always take into consideration when buying an ASUS laptop is they almost always come with the 1 year global / 1 year accidental damage warranty. This feature alone is worth an additional $50 dollars or so.

For the price I paid, this laptop was a steal. However, at the normal price point of $600+/-, I would look to spend a little more and get the ASUS A73E-XA1 17.3" which will offer the larger screen, the numpad on the side of the keyboard, a faster processor (2.3GHz i5 vs 2.1GHz i3), and a larger hard drive. My fiance does not agree with that as she would prefer the still powerful but much more portable 14.1".

I believe some poor reviews of products are due to the fact that the users may be misinformed about the product or just unable to understand the product. With that said, I review the Dell Ultrabook 14z Inspiron 5423 as a computer tech with many years of experience. There are several incarnations of the Dell 14z Ultrabook, and each one has a different configuration. So be very careful when choosing one for you may not be getting what you thought you wanted. The processor in this 5423 is an i7-3517U @1.9GHz. This is a sharp looking laptop with a very sturdy brushed aluminum case. The front corners of the case has an annoying lip that has the potential of catching on things like your arms and wrists! The keys on the keyboard are spaced nicely, but because so there is no separate keypad. For some reason Dell chose to leave off the lighted keyboard bummer. It has a generous sized touch pad which can be turned off if using a mouse. It only has two 3.0 USB ports many less expensive laptops have three ports! One of the ports is on the left by the HDMI port and both have a cover over them, which can be a hassle when plugging into. The wired network port also has a cover. With the i7 processor, 8 Gig of memory and the SSD acting as cache memory this laptop is very fast. It could have been even faster if Dell had used a 7200 HD instead of the slower 5400. It seems that all computer companies chintz out a little on their builds thinking it will give them an edge in the market. As far as I am concerned it just makes them look stupid! The web cam is OK, but not up to the quality of the rest of the laptop. I casually tried to pair this laptop with a Bluetooth headset and was unable. Do not know if it is the laptop or the headset not big issue right now. Something they do not tell you in the specs is about the battery and hard drive. You have to take out several screws on the bottom and remove the keyboard assembly to access the battery or the hard drive. I guess it is Dell's way of keeping the laptop thin and light weight. If you can look over some of the minor faults, and are looking for a thin, light weight, sturdy, fast, 14" laptop with most of the bells and whistles, this may be the one for you.

The RST technology with the solid state drive in this laptop is unbelievable. I use this in my living room connected to my entertainment system mostly for movies. It boots up in about the same time as my Blu-Ray player and much more convenient for browsing netflix, amazon prime, Hulu, or youtube than trying to use the very limited interfaces built in to a television or blu-ray player. It's also got a great battery life when I'm reading pdf books or dabbling around on the net from my couch. Great product!

Con: Weak wireless card for connecting to a router on the other end of your house. Probably throttled back the power to save on the battery life.

Best Deals for Dell Inspiron 14Z-5423 Ultrabook i5-3317U 1.70GHz - 8GB - 500GB HDD

This laptop is beautifully constructed. Lightweight, easy to type on, and peppy touchpad. I purchased this particular "ultrabook" because it has a DVD drive but still weighs in at about 4lbs. Battery life seems to be acceptable (I get about 4 hours unplugged watching TV/movies). I do think it's a lot of bang for your bock for ~$500.

That said, there are a few things that would benefit the 14z (5423). First is a backlit keyboard. Second is the screen quality could be better, it requires a lot of adjustment when watching movies. The WiFi periodically disconnects and the device needs to be re-booted, however I have been advised that updating the drivers may remedy this. Windows 8 is not very intuitive and is optimized for a touch screen, which the 14z does not have. Finally, the DVD tray release button is ultra sensitive and accidentally pops open constantly with the slightest pressure or when something brushes against it. Perhaps this is just a defect with my particular device.

This is a nice attempt by Dell but it would be a perfect laptop if just a few of those flaws were addressed in future models.

Hey everyone,

I recommended NOT to buy from this seller!!

I got this laptop but whit i3 processor and not i5 like I wanted and ordered.

The seller write me that I can send them back the laptop and they will refund all the money back. I needed the laptop so I couldn't send it back so they told me it is my problem!!!

I think that this is not a solution because I order laptop for use it and not for send it back.. finally, after more then 10 emails, they refund me 35$ (that I think it's not enough but I gave up).

so, the bottom line is if you want to buy a laptop do not but it from this seller!!!

Good luck!
