I have owned this laptop for about 4 days now. I did a lot of research to make sure I found a laptop that I could do multiple things. From office work to light Gamming (Guild Wars) including some poker.

Anyway, I owned (still own) a Dell laptop that I have had for about 4 years, I had already maxed the memory and I didn't want to go through the expense of upgrading hard drive.

My fiancé bought a similar Toshiba laptop just like this one but it's a intel icore 3.

I checked hers out and I was hooked. Now I wanted to get something with a little more processer power but without breaking the bank. I choose the AMD Quad core A6. And I'm so glad I did.

This laptop is AWESOME Screen size speed smooth blue finish and everything Dolby sound, blue tooth the works.

I didn't get to buy it here at Amazon though which I would have if I didn't find it on sale at Brandsmart USA.

The laptop is worth it. I don't normally right reviews but I just had to give my input on this laptop. For what it's worth to you ...I would highly recommend it.

Nice job TOSHIBA!!

Purchased this laptop based on the feature rich specs and great price. I got everything I expected. Great display, fast quad core processor, plenty of RAM. Good battery life for the size as well. Toshiba built another winner here. With all the known Intel core i7 issues people are having, it was between an AMD A6 or Intel i5 processor for me. At about 100 bucks less than the i5 this machine is every bit as good if not a better performer on all the tests I have run. I get great frame rates on my games too.

I never write reviews but wow. I am amazed at the performance of this laptop! I just got it today. I am a gamer and was looking for something that was a good price and a good performer. This computer is way over my expectations. My first test was skyrim.. When I started it up it recommended High settings (8xAA and 8xAF)! I did not believe it but gave it a shot. It loaded the game in about 7-10 seconds and was perfectly smooth. I closed the game and had to write this review. This A6 processor is amazing AMD really did a great job. Intel cannot touch this for the price. Well as a matter of fact they can't even touch the versatility of this processor at all. If you are on a budget and do not want to spend over $1000 for a gaming laptop get this laptop. You will not be disappointed at all.

So far everything is running fantastic...Does NOT have the "fast clock" issue.

Nice display...Quality sound...Great features...

The blue brushed aluminum is nice, but darker than the web photos show.

I have had this laptop for 4 years now. To this day, I love it and it competes with recently released laptops in terms of processing power, size, and overall comfort of use. Only downside would be the battery life but thats what a charger is for. Well worth the money.

I would rate this more a 4.5 This laptop has it all. I'm going to review this a bit backwards with what I don't like first, because there's so much I do like.

Fan noise loud (It seems to run constantly, even when I'm just browsing. Yes, running as I type this review).

Screen Resolution seems limited considering the resolution screens are coming out with today.

Missing touch screen capabilities and Stylus, so all windows 8 perks would be lost.

My first thought unboxing this was how large this is. I'm use to a 13" ultrabook.

Part of me wishes it came in a 13" model, but the 14" is growing on me. This is thin and very solidly built.

HP has answered basically every issue I've had with existing ultrabooks on the market these days with the above exceptions. Most laptops are always missing a few of these features below, but not this one.

Backlit keyboard yes

Full SD Card Slot yes, no usb card reader needed

Big touch pad yes, also nice size wrist/palm rest.

VGA port yes, no dongles needed

Network port yes, no usb adapters needed

User Expandable!!!!!!

RAM, up to 16 GB (2 Slots)

HD (If you want to exchange for a larger SSD)

Battery can be swapped out.

Comes with an option for an extended battery (haven't seen yet, but supposedly thin and clamps to the bottom to provide almost 20hrs work time so probably more like 12-14 hrs real time, but that's all day computing without plugging in.

Nice features

Dedicated Mute button

Bio metric reader

Filled only 1 of 2 RAM slots, one slot remains open, so to expand to 8 GB, you do not need to purchase 2 4 GB chips, only 1 needed.

2 USB 3 ports next to each other great for that external DVD recorder that you may need from time to time (Most DVDs require 2 USB ports)

Sim card slot

Rubbery like coating on the outside case, minimizes finger prints and makes it easy to grip.

Docking station capable

180 GB SSD vs. typical 132 GB SSD.

Sound, not too bad

Missing

Front Camera good for recording meetings

Would like to of seen a higher resolution screen

10 point touch with pressure sensitivity screen with digitizer stylus for pen input

My other ultrabook has an i5 processor, but this is so much faster. Part I belive is the SSD,the other part though is because it's new and not alot of software has been loaded to slow it down.

I can't get over how smooth and thin this is. Although it's long / tall. Typing on this is not bad, keys have plenty of travel.

I've installed MS Office 2013, a pdf converter, picasa, Fujitsu scanner software and a few utilities. HD space avaliable is around 95 GB out of 144GB. The extra HD space given helps (180 vs typical 132 GBs). I still need to load lightroom, camtasia, captivate, proshow producer pdf converter and a few other utilities.

I'm on the fence debating if I should upgrade to the 516GB SSD. I've already ordered 2 8 GB Ram chips to expand the memory to 16GB Ram. I'll update this with my findings. I'm also posting pics for reference.

The power brick is also nice and small so if you are a road warrior, this is an ideal travel companion. Only thing missing is the ability to convert to a tablet and having a stylus and touchscreen. Perhaps the next version.

Hope this helps.

UPDATE: I've upgraded the SSD to a 512GB and I'm loving the quick response and large capacity it now offers. Makes quick work of video rendering also, very little heat noted also.

INTRODUCTION:

There are many laptop users that all want different things. As a desktop computer enthusiast, I knew that I wanted the slim ultrabook design, great battery life, and the ability to add/replace components whenever I wanted. Unfortunately, our good friends at Apple have started the trend of unibody designs that basically gives the consumer relatively no serviceability whatsoever. Then came the Elitebook Folio 9470m, HP's newest business grade laptop, and it has lived up to my expectations! That is not to say there are no faults, however (more on that later).

PROS:

+ Form factor is great. Not too thin, not too thick. And the 14" display was always my favorite. 13" is great, but is a bit too small for productivity at times. And 15" is too big to lug around.

+ Elitebook build quality. No flex on the chassis at all! The outside has a rubbery feel which gives it grip and avoids finger prints. The inside of the laptop has a metallic/brushed aluminum feel, similar to Macbooks. At first I was a bit surprised by the contrast in texture. After a few days, I've grown accustom to it. I wouldn't do it any other way.

+ Battery life is outstanding. I managed to get about 5 hours of Skype/video streaming before hitting 10%. On a normal day, I can bring my laptop with me to campus (I'm a student), and not have to worry the battery at all. All day computing for me. There is also an optional slice battery that more than doubles the current capacity.

+ Serviceability. Replaceable battery (great when the battery deteriorates after 2-3 years), one open DIMM slot for more RAM, access to the HDD, and even an open mSATA and mPCI-e slot for more components!

+ Input devices are fantastic. Keyboard is backlit and has great travel considering the thickness (or should I say thinness) of the laptop. No unreasonable short keys other than the backspace being a little bit smaller than it should, and the up and down arrows sharing a normal letter key space. Mouse nipple is there if you like that, large trackpad works as good as Synaptics get and I have not had any issues with the palm rejection yet.

+ Dedicated hardware airplane mode and mute are a very good touch. As a Windows user, I do envy OS X users that get to change their sound without holding an FN key with the function keys, so this gets me a step closer to that.

+ Speed. There are many configurations of the laptop, but to give you an idea, I have the i5 3427U with 180GB SSD. Boot up is less than 30 seconds, everything is speedy. It felt like I just built a new rig and booted it up for the first time ever.

+ Ports are numerous. Full SD card reader, 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 VGA, 1 Display port, Full sized gigabit Ethernet. I understand the choice of VGA over HDMI, which is that most projectors in board rooms are older and have an analog input, but I do wish I had an HDMI out. There is also a docking station that you can attach to the bottom/back of the laptop to give you access to even more ports.

+ Tons of business features. I don't know anything about what businesses like in a laptop, but from what I know, there is a smart card reader, finger print reader for bio-metric logins, a kensington lock, and tons of HP business software.

CONS:

Display. Without paying an extra $200-$300 for the recently released 1600x900 panel, you are stuck with the 1366x768 resolution. Not to mention the fact that HP decided to put a lousy TN panel which is absolutely unacceptable. I personally can get over the lower resolution and lower quality display panel, but I do not think laptops in the $1,000 range should come with this. However, if you're like me and have only used TN panels you're whole life, this won't bug you all that much :P

Fan noise. Like other reviewers have said, the fan is there. And more often than not, it will be giving you an audible whirl unless all you're doing is note taking/simple web browsing. Configuring Windows 7 to passively cool the processor (lower the frequency before turning up the fan speed), and turning off the "Fan always on during AC" does give me moments of silence (it's off as I currently type this), but this can be slightly annoying at times. The best way to illustrate it is to say it sounds like slightly louder white noise.

Power button. I don't understand why HP gave the dedicated hardware mute/airplane mode buttons a nice finger friendly circle but gave the power button a thin rectangle. It's not too hard to press without using your nail, but it's small enough to give you a challenge when you're holding it down to force a shutdown.

CONCLUSION:

Ultimately, HP has a winner here. If you're looking for a serviceable ultrabook, the Elitebook Folio 9470m is a solid choice. The only thing that can be a deal breaker is the TN panel. The power button will take some time getting used to, the fan noise shouldn't bother you if you're looking into an ultrabooks (unless you're okay with short-living your processor with improper cooling), and the 1366x768 is upgradable. What I mean with this is that, if you're brave enough, you can purchase a 1600x900 display for $50, making sure it is the display for the Elitebook Folio, and install it by yourself. All in all, if you can overlook the TN panel, there is absolutely no deal breakers for this laptop. Solid ultrabook. Solid battery life. Outstanding future proofing with the serviceability. And this something you simply can't find in any other laptop in this category.

I bought this laptop from someone on Craigslist a few months back, so I don't have anything to say about packaging since it wasn't shipped from Amazon (or affiliates).

What I can say though is that this is great laptop. I had used a MacBook for the past 4 years when I decided I was getting tired of Apple's proprietary ways. I bought this laptop for a bargain price, slapped Linux Mint on it and it has truly delivered. The reason it gets a 4 instead of 5 is really some design choices made by HP.

Pros:

+ Backlit keyboard keys are responsive and don't feel cheap

+ Great performance with i5 + SSD harddrive

+ Trackpad (hasn't gotten in my way while typing!)

+ Matte screen (non glossy, non reflective) I had no idea how great life would be without glare!

+ Very thin and light

Cons:

Design choices... why did HP put the displayport so close to the front of the laptop? I use a mouse and this sometimes gets in the way!

Charger I know, I'm spoiled by Apple's design here, but it seems like we could all move past the old style circular DC charger. I don't like that this is on the left side (chargers should be in the back if they are breakaway like Apple's).

Speakers They sound horrible. Get some headphones.

Another review mentioned fan noise being an issue. It's not much of an issue if you are running on battery power, unless you get into CPU intensive activity, which of course ratchets up the fan. When you plug the laptop into the charger, the operating temperature increases by about 4C (degrees) and the fan turns on. There is an option in the BIOS to NOT have the fan run while charging, but I haven't been brave enough to try this just saying it's an option. I usually have some music going anyway though, so fan noise isn't an issue for me.

As far as operating temperature, I'm impressed. My old MacBook (white style) would crank up to about 60-65C when playing youtube videos and having a couple of browser windows open which would then accelerate the fan (talk about noise...). The Folio 9470m seems to operate (browser (10 tabs), text editors, IM, Qt Creator, LibreOffice Writer/Calc) in the 40-50C range (with ambient temps at 17-18C). The first core seems to constantly chart between 3-7C higher than the second. The hottest I've seen this laptop get is compiling Qt [-j4] (for the uninitiated, this is a VERY CPU intensive task utilizing both cores) both cores were in the 62-70C range for a fair amount of time.

Overall, this has been a very, very nice addition to my life! As sleek and strong as a MacBook, powered by Linux, and solid under the hood.

(Btw, the displayport adapter I got works great with a DVI connection it's here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045JTAC6/)

Honest reviews on HP EliteBook Folio 9470m C6Z63UT 14.0' LED Ultrabook - Intel - Core

I received this product from B Plus media. I began to use the laptop the day it came in the mail as I am a teacher and my previous computer became very temperamental. I was impressed with how thin and light weight it was and how fast it started up. As a teacher, is important to me to have the ability to reliably connect to a projector, and have full productivity. At the same time, I love the fact that this laptop can fit into any of my bags that I use with all the other supplies that I have to carry with me. The HP Elitebook Folio meet all those needs. The only reason I am giving this laptop a 4 star instead of a 5 star is that it was supposed to come with Windows 7/8 preloaded and did not, but that could be an issue with the vendor and not the laptop.

I received this machine earlier. It got here before the estimated arrival, so that was nice.

This run games smoothly. I have played Battlefield 3 at high settings on 1920x1080.

This has a GTX 765M, which is a decent gaming gpu.

The Power-cord supports 120-240v, so this means that it would work with pretty much any country.

The AlienFX is a cool feature. To lighten up your machine and make this a fabulous laptop.

There are 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 2.0 port, I believe. There is one HDMI output. A microphone and headphone jack. There is an optical drive, which pulls the disc in, so it is pretty nice. Also an SD card, and ethernet port.

The laptop does get a little warm after an hour after gameplay, but while surfing the internet, it gets cool, and operates just fine.

I suggest a cooling pad to keep it warm, and place it on a hard surface.

As this laptop was on sale for only $1465 at the time, so I decided to buy it. It is originally $1700, which is a total ripoff.

I would recommend this laptop who kinda needs portability and a good gaming laptop, though it is very heavy for a 14" laptop, but a GTX 765M in the machine. I suggest you quickly grab it whist it is on sale. For example, the "Computer Upgrade King" is putting this laptop on sale.

Computer Upgrade King is safe, but beware in the description in some of their products, they modify laptops which sounds really unsafe, to be honest. But other than that, I would buy their products.

I got this with 120GB SSD for business use, but very disappointed compared to previous T61P after a week use:

Pro:

1. Quiet with SSD;

2. USB3 (not useful for me), eSATA i/f.

Con:

1. resolution maximum is ONLY 1600x900, while T61p can reach 2048x1536, almost 25% downgrade;

2. the "Insert/Delete" keys are separated, "Insert" on left, while "Delete" on right with 2-key space. I always had a hard time try to find the insert key, very dumb layout design.

3. no finger scanner (optional);

4. As a high-end laptop, no HDMI

Not recommended for a software business use.

1/7/2011 Update after 2 weeks use:

1. The left "Shift" key is fall off, and got the whole keyboard replaced

2. 2 USB ports on the left side stop working, on a process to replace it.

I just wanted to warn everyone from buying this or other products from ANTOnline (ANTOnline.com).

I bought this laptop from ANTONLINE and he sold the laptop as new but I later found out that it was already used. Several weeks ago it began to turn off for no reason so I contacted Lenovo Technical Support--since it still was supposed to have warranty (I bought it on November 22, 2012 and the PC stated it had 1 year of warranty) so Lenovo told me that the warranty had expired on May the 3rd 2013. They asked for the machine number and Serial and said it had been used on March 7th 2012. I have contacted the seller and I haven't received any reply leaving me with the only option to leave a negative feedback.

A WORD OF ADVISE:

>>CHECK the SERIAL and MACHINE number with Lenovo and see whether it has been used.

I just purchased this laptop from Best Buy yesterday, and I'm pleased so far with the results. I was a little apprehensive about making the switch to Vista 64 bit, but so far, so good. I've only found one HW item so far that I've had trouble with a little $10 USB travel mouse. So far, all other software and hardware has worked fine in Vista 64 (most importantly, my old games).

I haven't run into any issues yet, just the typical bloatware that was installed on the PC by gateway. One other annoyance with the scroll function on the mousepad. The right area is dedicated to the scroll function, and it's not quite as responsive as I'd like, but so far, that's my only complaint about this laptop (one that I'll not have to deal with once I get a compatible USB mouse).

I have played both Titan Quest and Age of Empires 3, with the detail cranked all the way up, and while I had to dial back a couple of the settings, the laptop has performed admirably well. I haven't had a chance to load any FPS games yet, but feel that I'll be able to run those at medium settings.

I've had this laptop for four years and still today, it's quick and meets all my needs. I even got upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 for free from the Gateway/Microsoft deal that occured. One of my favorite features is HDMI, that allows for plugging this into a LCD/Plasma for watching movies in hotel rooms and at home for some streaming movies. The battery now has a little trouble making it through a full Dvd movie, but does well if the movie is on the Hard Drive -the fact that it still lasts longer than an hour on battery power amazes me considering most four year old batteries wouldn't survive longer than a few minutes (besides, when I'm using it I'm usually near a power source these days).

Best laptop I have ever owned.

I have had this laptop for almost 3 years. I had updated the memory and nothing else has been done.

I had lost the charger and got myself ebay replacement which destroyed the port by expanding. Gateway fixed the port for free and sent me a replacement charger.

I did get lot of viruses which made the laptop overheat so linux or replacing the windows every two month will help you last this computer for very long time.

only complaint is speakers and wifi card (not as good as other laptops but if you have excellent router this will not be a issue).

It's an Okay laptop. A little slow running (thanks in partially to how much of a resource hog vista is). If you can get one with windows 7 I would. I personally received this laptop from my mother so it's little on the old side (maybe a year or two). I suppose it's not horrible for the price.

The looks are nice except for the fact that the outside attracts finger smudges like there's no tomorrow.

Does the job as far as running various programs. I personally am a Graphic Design/ Computer Animation student in college. This computer can run programs such as photoshop, indesign, and lightwave fairly decently without any freezing.

The battery on this pretty much sucks.... It stopped charging to full charge within only a few months of use. however I think this may also have been an issue with vista itself not recognizing the charge? As since installing linux it seems to be charging right.

Also my charge cord broke after not to long. But this may have just been how my mother was using it before she gave it to me.

I recently have had a problem with it where the computers shell (vista) began to have issues....for some reason I didn't get the disc or anything with this to reinstall it. I had to install linux (ubuntu 10.04lts for the curious) on it. seems to have made the laptop run much faster so far. The built in camera is not automatically detected...still trying to see if its compatible with linux. Really not an issue unless you want linux...which most users won't. The fact that windows went wonky on my laptop is more a bad luck issue then anything else so It's not something to worry about to much when purchasing just make sure you have windows instillation cds or the company is willing to telly you how to reinstall windows when you buy it is all.

The only true bad thing I can say about this laptop is that the keyboard is crappy. you really have to slam the keys down to get the laptop to recognize all the letters you type. Which is annoying as it will occasionally not even accept some letters and so yo'll have typos where you'll be missing only one letter in the word (and in the entire sentence as shown by my awesome you'll typo..... -_-;)

What the kid said above is true...it's a little heavy though certainly not the heaviest computer.

okay graphics card...not amazing. will play some games like call of duty and the sims...but nothing to graphic heavy.

Soooo the breakdown.

Cons:

Crap keyboard (have to press really hard to get all your letters typed)

Sloooooow internet (with vista...don't know about xp or 7)

Possible bad battery (though not sure since it now charges fine under linux)

Webcam not auto detected wit linux (not suprising...and probably not useful info to most people)

possible delicate cord

didn't get shell backup

Pros:

fairly nice looking

works for everyday use

can run programs that use a lot of ram and not crash (like photoshop, lightwave)

runs well speed wise under linux (probably with windows7 to)

Fairly good for the price (especially if you generally have better luck with computer then me and my family. lol)

I have been using this computer for a couple of weeks now, and have mixed feelings overall. First of all, I got a great deal on it, so it was an easy choice at the time. For a higher (~700) price tag, I suggest looking around for a better deal, because you will be able to find one.

If I could, I would rate this laptop at 3.5 stars, but I'll call it 4 for kindness since I cant.

My favorite part of this laptop, and the primary reason I chose it is its form factor. It is very slim, and has a nice and clean look. The only thing I have ever seen that is slimmer is a MacBook Air, and they really are quite thinner than this. Regardless, it is an impressive form factor, and if you want mobile but still full size, this is great. The dedicated graphics are a very nice thing to have, and 4 GB of RAM with Win 7 is a good place to start (although this comes with a 32-bit OS that will only recognize 3). The battery is useful for about 4 hours depending on how you use it, but don't expect to go past 4. The speakers are actually somewhat impressive, in that there are 4 of them, but I don't think that should sway anyone's opinion of the laptop, as it is more of a gimmick than anything. The included DVD drive is also great. I had read reviews on this before saying it was bad, but they must have figured it out, because mine has worked great! I only wish the MSI logo on the lid of the laptop lit up like it does on the drive.

My complaints and issues with this laptop are all fairly small. First of all, the SU3500 processor is fantastic with power consumption. Given that, it is very very slow. I had the knowledge it was weak going in, and tried coming at it with low expectations, but it is really something tough to get over. The only reason I feel it is necessary to bring this up is because I feel it is really a place many people will overlook. HD video streaming online is powered just fine by the graphics, but the processor still holds it back a bit, and you will get a few chops with streaming 720p video. If you have the video on your disc, it will run fine, but simultaneous buffering of online material will slow it down. I also do a bit of coding with Visual Studio 2008, and compiling small projects gives it quite a work out, and I have had a few crashes there. Outside of that, I have tested the computer with Source engine powered games like Counter Strike and Left 4 Dead, and got very acceptable results.

Other small issues include the monitor and the keyboard. The monitor is really not clear at all, but that is me being somewhat picky. The colors seem overly saturated with white, and the lighting isn't even across the screen. Viewing angles are decent, but I notice a bit of distortion at what should be a comfortable angle vertically, and usually have to tilt it towards me a bit more than I usually would with other laptops. The keyboard is very firm and responsive, but the key size (and they advertise it as an advantage) is very large and awkward. It is still something I am trying to get used to, but in order to make the keys larger, they shift the orientation of the number line above, and the right shift key to fit everything in. I personally wish they would have just kept normal size keys and moved everything into a more standard position. The track pad is also a bit of a problem in that it is far too sensitive to touch, and its location is off center with they keyboard, so you will often accidentally move your cursor with taps from your right palm.

Overall, I am happy with my laptop because I got a great deal on it. I tried to pick out all of the things I disliked here so you could know what problems to expect, but do remember that it does outperform netbooks with ease, and it does have a very desirable form factor. I'll use this to play a few games with as well, which is possible with that ATI 4330 GPU in there. I just feel that the benefit of an extended battery and a bit more processing power is worth consideration for most.

This laptop is almost perfect except for two things. The speakers are weak, but if you do a couple tweaks then it isn't all that bad. Also, the battery life is really low. I would say about 3 hours on full blast. Hopefully they come out with a better battery, or mine could just be defective. I might send it back, but I'm in no rush since I carry my charger around with me anyway.

The computer is good, However, it happens that the one that I bought has a few defective keys. I called the company to order a repair under their warranty. They said that I have to send it in and they will take care of it. They emailed me instructions that explained how it's done and I had to fill an form with information. So far so good, but as I finished to fill up the form they wanted me to pay for the shipping or to pay for a special box for shipping in the amount of $25.00. I would have given them five stars but since it was not my fault that I have purchased defective computer, they should have taken responsibility and paid for the shipping.

This is an awesome little computer! It is the perfect size for carrying back and forth from work and home. It has plenty of memory, and it is so much faster than my previous computer. I'm not a computer whiz, but I know my way around a keyboard, and this laptop fit the bill for me.

Pros: Fast, portable, good battery life, plenty of memory, no problems, sturdy

Cons: The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't have a number pad. But if it did, then the computer itself would have to be bigger, and the size is a huge plus for me--so I'm not complaining!

I have had this laptop for almost a year and it is awesome. It can handle the Sims 3 on all high graphics, and it plays League of Legends just fine, I never have any problems with it. And it can run Diablo 3 but it can get really glitchy. It evens runs faster than my friends $1,200 Asus. The size isn't too small, and it isn't too big either, it can rest on my lap just fine, and I can throw it in my backpack or a larger handbag and be off. For battery life it is pretty good, I have no complaints.

The only considerable draw back on this laptop are the speakers; they just aren't loud enough sometimes, but since I use this laptop primarily for school work, Facebook, and online games, the audio isn't a huge must for me. The only thing that has worn out since I got it was the left mouse key; it has trouble clicking sometimes, but I think it's just because I only ever used that button, I never used the mouse pad. But even then it still works, lol. So yes I would recommend this laptop for someone who does light gaming, school work, surfing the web, and who wants great portability.

I bought this computer a few months ago, so I can't comment on how it holds up over time. But so far it has been excellent. Its size makes it easy to carry around and the keyboard is one of the few that I can work with (the new computers all push the letters slightly to the left, which is difficult for me). It's fast and durable and the battery lasts forever. Before this computer I had a Dell, which was not bad until it crashed after 3 years. After that I bought an HP that sounded as if it might explode so I ended up exchanging it for this model. After a week or so I tripped over the power cord and the laptop landed HARD upside down on the floor. Still works like a charm. :)

I just love this computer. After getting to know my way around an Apple I would recommend an Apple to anyone. I know they can be pricey but they are well worth it. The one I bought has some years on it but works like a champ. I have no problems and it is fast. I personal like mine better than the newer one because it is all white. That is something I was wanting and had to get an older modle in order to do so. Again, love my first Apple and highly recommend one to anyone.

I seem to always go to Amazon when I want to venture into new unfamiliar territory on products because I can lean on the reviews to get an idea if I'll be happy with the product. Well this was the first time I bought something that did not have a review! After researching a few laptops in this price range I was torn between this laptop and another one with good reviews but this laptop is a quad core AMD and the other was a dual Pentinum. Since I was down sizing from a quad core pentinum gamer desktop I didn't know if I'd be happy with a dual core or an AMD since I never had one before.

After using this laptop for over a month and doing everything from surfing the net, watching a movie, editing in Photoshop, and making a 5 minute movie in Windows Live Essentials this laptop does everything I need it to and as quickly as I hoped. I'm very happy with it.

Update: Its a little over a year later and the laptop is still running well. Only minor complaint being the battery isn't holding charge as well anymore, still does but not as long. Probably a typical laptop thing though.

We ordered this computer for my 13 year old son. While he needs it for school, he also likes to play games like Minecraft, Amnesia, and Skycraft. This computer can handle remarkably new games with its quad core processor. Can you run it rates the processor at 3.1 ghz when you're testing to see if your computer can play a game. The built in graphics card is much better than the intel HD series for laptops. Plus, Toshiba builds solid computers (my son's prior Toshiba lasted 5 years until it finally fell apart...not bad for a computer that started it's life with a 9 year old). The only issue is that Toshiba's warranty process is weird if the computer was manufactured over 6 months ago. It took me 3 phone calls to service and an email to finally get the warranty registered (although having owned 3 Toshiba's I have never, ever had to make a warranty claim).

I got this laptop for my daughter for college. She loves it! She was able to set it up completely on her own, and has been using it often. It is easy to use, fast to turn on, and processing is quick.

I bought this computer for me and my boys to use. This is the first Toshiba that I have ever owned, and I love it. It has really good graphics and the sound is also good. I wanted to wait a while before I wrote this review to make sure that nothing went wrong. It has now been over a month and I haven't had any problems at all. I would recommend this computer to anyone.

Sent me a completely damaged computer with a password on it so I couldn't access it at first. When I wanted my refund they didn't apologize for sending the wrong one. They must have thought I was an idiot. The hard drive was 120 gb not 500gb, it wasn't running that software, it was a completely different model number, not the computer pictured, the ram and ghz were different and the computer was severely chipped and dirty

I purchased mine about 6 weeks ago. I have never owned an Apple product of any sort before, but have been buying new, inexpensive laptops about every 2-3 years and discarding them after they would become buggy or too slow. Many of my students have Apple laptops and claim that even a five-year-old Apple is better than a new non-Apple, so I'm testing that thesis.

So far, so good with this one. It arrived basically as advertised. It has a new battery that provides about 4-5 hours of use. The power cord is also new. It has an older version of Office than the one I've been using, so that has taken some getting used to, but I'm figuring it out. I may upgrade to a newer version of Office if I can find a cheap download.

It operates nicely. It starts up almost instantly from sleep mode, and takes about a minute from a full restart. It occasionally downloads software updates, and does so pretty seamlessly.

Two quibbles. It came with a 1" scratch on the screen. I purchased the Displex scratch remover to try to remove it but no luck. It is not so noticeable with a dark background but with a light background it is annoying, though not obtrusive. The other problem is the DVD player. I popped in a copy of "The Chipmunks Movie" and it won't pop back out. I've checked out YouTube videos and other forms of online advice on this problem and nothing works. This is not a big deal since DVDs are basically obsolete technology, but it is just annoying.

So my bottom line is this. If you have $1100 + tax to spend, go for the new model. If you are like me and don't want to spend more than about $500 on a laptop, then this could be a good option.

The computer turns on and runs very good. I am new to apple but the programs work and run smooth on this computer. The 500 GBs allow me to add or update more to the programs without having to worry about space needed. The computer is clean and the keys are all functional. I did not receive the mouse pad and the GVA component as stated in the deal, but the computer itself is a very clean outside with minor scratches as said, but it runs and works perfect. Thank you PacificMac for a great computer.
