I fell in love with the S550CA-DS1T model because of the specs for a reasonable price. However, when I saw this laptop and found myself with a bigger budget than I had planned originally, I jumped on it. Intel Core i7 is an amazing CPU and I am so happy that this laptop is equipped with such a big memory and RAM. It is entirely necessary for my photography hobby. Creative Cloud works wonderfully on this laptop. I am a college student and needed to find a laptop that would be from a reliable brand and included the very specs offered by this laptop. I feel that I sacrificed the SSD that was found in the S550CA-DS1T, but in turn received an extra 2 GB of RAM and a newer processor. I had my doubts, but even without the SSD, the boot time is speedy and there is no lag between functions and transitions to other programs using the Windows 8 shortcuts.

It is very fast and extremely fun to use. Windows 8 is exasperating at times because I am still used to Windows 7 and XP, but I am happy that I will be challenged to learn and soon master the new OS.

I have had this laptop for only two days but am already extremely satisfied with its performance, appearance, ease of use, and components. The sound is crisp and unexpectedly loud. I was afraid that I would noticeably trade screen resolution for the touchscreen capability, but media and webpages are very clear and easy to read on the screen which appears to be bigger than 15.6 in. I love the fact that it has an optical drive in case I ever need it. The keyboard was said to be less responsive than most and too crammed, but I find myself typing at my average speed with no extra weight added to the keys. The number pad was a definite sales point for me, but I am sad by the lack of backlit keys. The only other drawback to the keyboard is that the laptop is a bit elevated which makes for an awkward wrist position, but this is not something that a change in posture can't remedy.

My family members, after seeing and witnessing the sheer awesomeness that is this laptop, want to trade theirs in for it. I highly recommend it!

I had wanted an Asus since my last purchase of a Sony 4 years ago. I just couldn't make the jump, mostly because I didn't know much about them. I do have a Google Nexus 7 that is made by Asus, and looking at many machines side by side I was sold. The build is rock solid, as with most of their products. It had just the right specs, and the one thing that sold me was the color and clarity of the touch screen. HP is just too dim and lifeless. I've heard way too many Dell and Toshiba nightmare stories, so I took the plunge. I didn't get it here as I found it online for a little cheaper at another place. So far the wireless is great and it runs all of the software I need for my DJ business and my podcast. iTunes loaded fine and I am transferring all of my music and podcasts to the giant hard drive. I even like Windows 8 (Gasp!!!). It's actually very cool and intuitive. Took a minute to find the Control Panel but I found it. I love the touch screen aspect, yet a familiar windows screen is only one touch away. We have Apps on all our other devices why not our PCs. I never load software, because I don't know what I need. Asus has it's own App store, and you are given lots of cool tiles. The e-mail setup is great I have access to 3 accounts from one screen. Where has this been for so long? I hvaen't played around with any games yet, but will try some soon. The memory and processor should handle some decent games on the market. I can't wait to just sit and play with this monster. I spent 4 hours messing around with it last night, and could have easily stayed up all night. Very excited about my new Asus.

I read some poor responses about this computer and some great ones before I made my purchase. I wish people would not be so quick to write a crappy review and at least give the product some time and familiarize yourself with it.

Like anything, once you open the thing up you want to just turn it on and go, well the battery does come with some juice but it does take some time to get use to Windows 8. I heard a lot of bad things about windows 8 and that it's not worth having unless you get a touch screen computer and to be honest that is a load of crap. I still use the mouse because it is just much easier to navigate around the computer.

The touch screen is responsive and I have had no issues with it and I don't believe I see any issues arising since I am familiar already with Tablets..

The biggest complaint I have about this product is it's advertised that battery life with last around 5 to 5 1/2 hours and that is not true at all... I barley get 3 1/2 hours out of it and that is disappointing.

The response time is excellent, start up time is quick, takes a few days to get use to the operating system and I will be honest I am still learning.

I haven't run into any compatibility issues with any of the software and hardware that I use and that's a good thing because "I don't have time for that"

the screen is huge I wish the graphics card was just a little better but it is good don't get me wrong. The cd-rw was key for me and I am very happy it has it.

The computer was recommended to me based off of what I was looking for from a friend who builds computers and has a business with remote computer repair. He is very knowledgeable and so I trust his advice. No issues with this computer and lastly if you are in the military it works perfectly fine on all required sites and that's for email, CAC card (software pre loaded win 8), form viewer and all others that I deal with.

Hope this helps you make a decision

The touch screen was great to use, however the keyboard response was terriible, especially the space bar. Would not buy another ASUS.

We bought the ASUS V550CA for my daughter who was entering college. When we the PC started an auto-update from Windows 8 and then did a restart, the screen would not come back or the hard drive became inactive. We tried everything to boot into safe mode with no luck. I replaced with the same model, because at this price point it is hard to beat and Amazon too the 1st laptop back without issue. Not sure if the issue was a bad interaction with Windows 8 and the newer touch screen technology or a hard drive issue corrupted after a Windows 8 update. Based on the feedback from ASUS support, they are not aware of this issue, but should be looking into it as I have seen threads related to this problem on-line.

Amazon support is great and the return of the PC was easy as well as buying the replacement.

I will keep it brief and simple. I was hesitant at first when I got this laptop but I got it at a great deal.

It's huge, so get a big laptop backpack to lug it. Yet it is not heavy. Just long. May not fit in standard 17" business bags.

Features not always mentioned. It has 2 hard drive bays. Comes with a 1 tb drive, but supports sata III Solid state drives at the same time. Pop in a solid state, and you will be extremely happy.

It has 2 GPU's. the HD 4000 and the Nvidia 650m. Do NOT go by benchmark sites. I have done by own benchmarks, and clearly most of the previous that did early reviews, did so without setting the benchmark programs into the NVidia list, so they in fact benchmarked the HD4000 gpu, not the 650m. Most of todays models with this mobile chip have both from various manufactures, the HD4000 is meant to save power consumption, the GT650m for high end gaming.

The screen is clear. THe only gripe is the resolution is not full 1080p (without a tweak) Close however. Some games may not have this res, so you will have to use a tweak, or if you play via HDMI, it will support full higher 1080p out to a HDTV.

Has a lot of Acer soft you may not need, uninstall or disable if that is the case.

I plays Battlefield 3 at highest levels, buttery smooth.

Wifi is sensitive and reliable.

Plays the Final Fantasy XIV ALpha nice an smooth at high settings.

First I have to tell you that I didn't buy this laptop on Amazon. I would have, had I not found it on a different site during a week long sale on this model. The sale is long over. I did find the reviews on Amazon helpful and wanted to add my own. Having said that, I spent about 2 weeks doing research on laptops because I wanted a desktop replacement that ran specific games reasonably well. Originally I wanted to purchase an Acer V3-571 series but, all other things being equal, a few things changed my mind and made me buy this model. 1) This laptop has an extra hard drive slot that I can use for a 256gb SSD 2) An extra USB 3.0 port 3) Better screen resolution.

Pros:

i7 processor will not become obsolete for a couple of years at least.

That extra slot for an SSD (I haven't got around to installing it yet).

The GT 650m graphics card isn't the top of the line but it is very good (more on this later, see gaming).

The internal fan is very good. It pumps out a ton of heat which means the insides are cool. I have been using it for gaming and haven't felt the top or bottom of the unit become warm let alone hot. Initially I was concerned about this because I read a few reviews about this laptop becoming hot but I'm thinking it could have been a problem with those individual units because mine does not have this problem at all. I bought a nice cooling pad but it's just sitting in it's box.

The price. Even at the non sale price I'm looking at now this thing is a bargain for the performance you're getting. Yes it has a few things that I would like to be different but I'm not willing to spend $2,000 for perfection.

Cons:

OK first thing, I read reviews about the short battery life. People claimed sub 2 hours. They must have been talking about writing documents or sending email because if you are gaming off the battery you're looking at 45 minutes on a full charge.

Not the fastest hard drive but if you plan on upgrading to SSD and using the 1TB hard drive for songs or videos it won't matter.

Big. But you already know that. This thing really should be used as a portable desktop. Be sure to bring the power supply with you.

I read reviews about the glossy finish on the unit... Holy fingerprints Batman! I knew it was going to be bad but I wasn't prepared for the reality lol. Have a chamois handy, you'll need it.

Gaming:

I think many of you, like me, want to do some gaming. Here is my experience.

World of Warcraft on ultra settings 40-60 FPS, this will drop in raids. High settings 80+ FPS and no problem handling raids.

Guild Wars 2 high settings 40-60 FPS. If you do PvP with a ton of people around you it will have to be set to mostly med with a few high settings. Then expect 30-60 FPS depending on how cluttered the screen is.

Planetside 2 Absolutely smooth on high settings. I did get some stutters in heavy action but I had other programs running in the background.

Hope that gives you guys some ideas for gaming performance. Make sure to set the GT 650m card as the default for your games because the HD4000 in the machine will run them but not nearly as well.

Bottom Line: For what I paid for this thing I am extremely happy and I think you will be too.

Got mine today.. Just an amazing product from ACER.. Nice alluminium finish.. cool glossy looks (one drawback here is fingerprint & dust can be noticed easily)but a totally bundled package and POWERFUL machine. You get looks and performance both.

1 17.3 inch Screen

2 Intel i7 3632QM Processor

3 Nvidia 650M DDR3 Graphics with Optimus technology (I tested Dishonored, Assassins Creed & CS-Global Offensive the run damn smooth on high details without any lag).. \o/

4 8 GB RAM

5 Windows 8 64 BIT (No gaming issues on windows 8 just perfect)

6 USB 3.0 & Bluetooth 4.0

7 Sound quality is very clean..

8 keypad is awesome (but NO backlit)

No DVD or software disc is included.. but u get microsoft office 30 days trial pack & Mcafee 60 days trial pre installed.. and some of acer applications.

the only reason i give it 4 star and not 5 is coz it dont come with blu-ray rom but instead comes with pioneer DVD/RW and front webcam is just ok kindish, otherwise its classic in its class..

Definately recommended.. ;)

THANKS :)

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

Before I get into too much detail about this laptop let me tell you, this is a MUST buy for ANYONE who wants a FAST, POWRFUL, or INEXPENSIVE computer to use. This is an OUTSTANDING laptop, with only a few cons that I will go over. But first, the good stuff:

PROS:

* It's VERY fast! With the quad core i7 processer and 8GB of ram, you never have to worry about this laptop slowing down. You can run multiple applications at the same time, and it still won't break a sweat.

* There's PLENTY of space! This laptop comes with an 1TB hard drive, though you only get to use about 900GB, after Windows 8 software is installed, it's still more than enough space for music, movies and games.

* GREAT graphics card! Most benchmark websites will rate the "NVidia GeForce GT 650M" as a mid-ranged graphics card. However I have, Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, Civilization 5 and many more games, running on High settings and I get 50-60 FPS with each game. For some people reading this and not understanding what I'm saying, it means I can run those games with High graphic settings and get smooth gameplay! Which is great for a "mid-ranged" graphics card.

* NICE display! It won't blow you away or anything; however, the 1600 X 900 screen resolution makes games, movies and YouTube look pretty good!

* TREMENDOUS price! Most gaming laptops can cost over $1300 or more! But for around $900 you're getting an OUTSTANDING deal!

And now for the bad:

CONS:

* The lid is a little flimsy. I'm not saying it's going to break on you, but it's not the sturdiest lid I ever seen on a laptop.

* The disc tray is also a little flimsy. Again, it's not going to break on you, I just think it's worth mentioning.

* The battery isn't the best. I can only get about 4 hours off of this laptop when I'm using the battery. And that's not including when I'm playing games. If you ONLY want to get a laptop so you don't have to keep it plugged in for more than 4 hours at a time. Then DON'T get this laptop! Though keep in mind, that with MOST powerful gaming laptops (not including Alien Were) you're going to have a crappy battery life, no matter what.

In conclusion, this is a nearly PERFECT laptop and with such a low price with great system specs. There shouldn't be much holding you back from getting this laptop!

I read all of the reviews specifically on this laptop on Amazon and Newegg and both places had people having problems with the wifi connection dropping randomly. I called Acer support for help, and while the man I talked to was hard to understand, he helped me update my wireless lan drivers through the website. It was so simple! I don't know why people are hating on this laptop so much when the issue could be resolved so easily.

I can see why some people don't like Windows 8. Most of the apps don't make sense because of the lack of a touch screen on this laptop. Other than the fact that the start button is missing, the user interface is nice. I realize that I hardly used the start button anyway. You can still get to the command and search functions by pressing windows button + X. It's not that hard to get used to!

Pros:

I love that the keyboard keys all have a little bit of space in between them, the arrow keys are independent of the shift button (I've had a laptop that had the shift button right next to the up arrow button on another laptop and it was terrible, this laptop however, does not have this problem), and that there is a number keypad. The speakers are located above the keyboard and the sound quality is wonderful. The battery life is excellent. I've played 2 long games of League of Legends before having to plug it back in. That's about 2 hours of gaming, which exceeded my expectations. I also play Diablo III and various Steam games on this laptop and it runs everything with ease.

Cons:

Sometimes when I pick up the laptop, I accidentally open the CD drive because the eject button is sort of on the underside of the opening. The caps lock button has no light indicator.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. This is a high quality laptop for an affordable price. I'm glad I gave it a chance despite of what I knew about the wifi problems.

Appart from what the other guy said, this computer is a decent quality unit capable of running a lot of games. The hard drive is plenty big enough to hold your games and music, and with 3gb of ram its quite fast. I admit the graphics card is below todays games like call of duty modern warfare 2, but if you want a computer to run games like world of warcraft, or just surf the web or business then this is a great buy for the price!

I purchased this laptop 2 years ago and have had nothing but success in using it for my home business. I do have the unit connected to my network for excessive periods of time and it has always stood up to the challenge of my small business operations. Nice modern PC laptop for multiple lifestyle users... thumbs up Toshiba!

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848 Notebook

The computer itself is halfway decent. But I've had a number of problems with over the years from a failed cooling unit as well as a bad motherboard. Also, the power cable is an absolute piece of garbage. I've had to replace mine three times in just a few months! If you value your money, look elsewhere for a computer. I'm never buying a Toshiba again.

I'm not sure where the above bad reviews came from, but I find it hard to believe that anyone had such a bad experience with the same system that I bought from Amazon. Looks like most of the reviews are for computers bought from someone else or even directly from Dell, and the guy that bought 3 in the last year and had all of them crash within a month after the warranty expired????? well that doesn't make since.... they all come with a 1 yr warranty, and if he bought three within the last year, then they would still be under warranty..... but I digress,,, and here is my review:

I bought the Inspiron i1545 that is sold on Amazon.com and it has more than met my expectations. I figured that a $619 laptop would be the low end of the spectrum when looking for performance, but this has all the componants of the "high end", as far as RAM and Hard disc. Win 7 makes it easy and has very fast start up and shut down times. It runs very effeciently when I have multiple windows open and I'm gettting close to 8 hours between charges (so far). I did a ton of research for computers before making this purchase, and even went to places like Best Buy so I could get a better feel for what the computer looks and feels like. This Inspiron has all the qualities I was looking for: Sleek, light weight, incredibly clear screen, and responsive keys. Add that together with the 4GB of RAM, 500GB of Hard disc, and I love the "Dell Dock" that allows me to put all my icons in one place, which keeps my desktop clean and professional looking.

My opinion is that you cannot go wrong with this system. You certainly get more for your money!

I have purchased three from this company in the past year -we have twins in college and each needed one -then one for personal/home use.

Within a month after each warranty expired, the hard drive died. Nothing could be done but order a replacement which first requires a $49 diagnostic fee....before they can even tell you what the part is that is needed and how much that will cost.

They cannot replace items lost on the drive --so be sure to have your own external hard drive or system for back up. They are no help.

This happened three times!! Three different laptops!! All with simple use at home and university. Each just AFTER the warranty expired -and they are in India -and make no adjustments to "policy" -and have the most effective system of blocking customers from access to attaining help.

Never, ever again. Burned THREE times -with THREE different laptops. Never, never again.

Best Deals for Dell Inspiron i1545-4583JBK 1545 15.6-Inch Laptop (Jet Black)

My wife and I have been loyal Dell customers over 10 years and four machines. All our previous machines have performed well and we have never had much reason to call customer service for anything. The few times we did (years and years ago) were reasonably pleasant experiences, though. My impression of Dell has always been that they are a solid company that produces solid products.

Not now.

This laptop, which is my wife's, has been nothing but a nightmare from day one. Pathetic battery life, hardware and software issues, trackpad problems, cursor jumping around, intermittent wireless problems, a shoddily-made machine with flimsy screen hinges that easily break.

Dell's customer service has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any company in my entire life. I started out trying to return the unit, but quickly found out that they count the number of days that you have had the computer as starting on the day you order the unit, not the day you receive it, so I was two days past the last day I could return the unit. After being transferred back and forth between two different departments who each thought the other department was supposed to help me, I finally found someone who understood the issue and said he would work on getting special approval to return the unit and then call me back. He also sent me an email. He never called back, never responded to emails, never answered the phone, never returned calls. Anyone else I talked to acted like they knew nothing and told me I could not return the unit. Then I tried to appeal to their business sense, by trying to exchange the unit for a higher model (figuring that if they saw I wanted to pay them more money, they would forgive the 2-day thing).

It took me two more weeks of calling every day to find a guy in their corporate customer service group who (even though he shouldn't have even helped me) agreed that what I wanted to do made good business sense and would help the company hold onto a loyal customer. It took him two more weeks to get what he told me was internal approval for the return (their system only allowed them to process it as a return, not a repair or replacement). He even CC'd me on the email where the manager approved the return and gave him instructions on how to process it. I was told I would receive a return code and instructions on how to return the unit for credit. A week went by--nothing. I called and emailed the guy over and over. No response. I finally got someone else who's email address was on the approval email to respond, who explained that the person who approved the return was in one of two different departments who had to approve the return. He said what everyone else always told me--that he would personally take responsibility for resolving my case. He gave me a phone number that was supposedly his direct number and an email. Never heard from him again. The phone number went to a generic mailbox.

After months of getting the runaround and taking every my lunch hour every day to sit on the phone while eating a sandwich, I simply gave up and decided it just wasn't worth it for a $560 laptop. We are already shopping for a replacement after 7 months of owning this thing. Guess who we won't be buying it from.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron i1545-4583JBK 1545 15.6-Inch Laptop (Jet Black)

After seeing some of the other reviews I thought I would add my two cents worth, as it may help out some of you who are looking to purchase an Inspiron 1545.

I've owned this laptop now for a little over a week and I am very happy with the experience so far. I am very knowledgeable about computers, and currently run several machines running Windows 7, Windows Home Server, Mac OSX, and Ubuntu. I have also worked in IT support in the past, so diagnosing and upgrading PCs is something I'm very comfortable with.

Quick Pros and Cons List:

PROS:

+ Windows 7 (it really is a nice and stable OS)

+ Intel dual-core T4400 processor (works well for most users, easy on battery life)

+ 4GB of RAM (helpful for running programs simultaneously, such as Office, Photoshop, Media Center, etc)

+ 320GB hard drive (plenty of storage for most users)

+ Integrated 1.3MP Creative Labs Live! webcam

+ 7-in-1 media card reader (almost a necessity today)

+ Easily upgradeable (discussed below)

CONS:

T4400 is a dual-core processor, not as powerful as a Core 2 Duo, or the current Core i3 (1545R)

Memory is slower 800MHz speed, not current 1066MHz (1545R)

Wireless (wifi) card is A/B/G, but not N-spec

While the webcam is 1.3MP, it isn't of the highest quality but it's okay

VGA-out included, not HDMI-out like on the newer 1545R

Bluetooth not included (though upgradeable)

High gloss surfaces do attract fingerprints (not a big negative)

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:

I've owned many Dells, and this is the third computer I've purchased from Dell this year... not because something was wrong, but they've had good deals on desktops and laptops this year. This is the first entry level laptop that I have purchased from Dell, and overall I am happy with the design, layout, and quality of the build. The high gloss plastic areas on the palmrest and LCD bezel are obvious fingerprint magnets, but not as bad as an iPhone or iPod. They keyboard is laid out well, with good distance between the keys and a nice feel when typing. The keyboard includes dedicated buttons on the right hand side for Home, Page Up/Down, End, and the four arrow keys.

The hard drive, a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 has decent storage space at 320GB, though it is slower at 5400RPM with an 8MB cache. After formatting, you have about 300GB of usable storage. The memory for this machine is 4GB, though the motherboard can support up to 8GB. The memory speed is 800MHz, which is fine, but is slower than the current 1066MHz memory available. It would have been nice if Dell included an HDMI video port, but instead chose VGA. The HDMI comes standard on the new 1545R with the Core i3 processor. The LCD is crisp and bright, with decent viewing angles. The native resolution of 1366x768 is good, though a little compact, but makes viewing 720p video very nice. The AC adapter is the slim variety... the only issue is that the power plug into the computer fits a little loosely though probably on purpose to prevent damage to the laptop if the cable is snagged by a passerby.

UPGRADEABILITY:

The nicest aspect of this laptop is that if you find that you need more speed, hard drive space, memory, faster wifi, or even bluetooth all of these components can be easily upgraded. Reading the service directions at Dell, you can see that taking apart the Inspiron 1545 is easy and straight forward. By removing the keyboard, you can easily add the bluetooth module and cable, which together go for about $25 on eBay. By removing the bottom cover, you can replace the memory, wifi card, and processor with little difficulty. An Intel 5100 N spec wifi card goes for about $12 on eBay. You can also add memory if need be up to 8GB is supported. The processor can also be replaced, though make sure that the processor you choose is supported by the laptop's bios. The 1545 supports Intel Socket P (478-pin Micro FCPGA) processors; with the bios specifically supporting the Celeron 900, Dual-Core T4200, T4300, T4400, and the Core 2 Duo T6400, T6500, T6600, P7350, P7450, P8600, and P8700. The faster processors, like the P8700 include more onboard cache, faster processor speed, faster bus speeds, and virtualization. Replacement processors like those mentioned can be found on eBay for around $20-150. The hard drive can also be easily upgraded I installed a new Western Digital 64GB SSD, which took about 60 seconds to install. The hard drive slot is on the right hand side, and comes out with the removal of two screws. I installed the new wifi in about 60 seconds, adding bluetooth took about two minutes. It doesn't take a lot of know-how to upgrade these components just a screwdriver and a quick read of the manual.

CONCLUSION:

It's a good laptop for the price, which can be upgraded into a better computer easily and cheaply... all you have to do is read the manual, which is straightforward. I usually keep computers for about a year or two, and by next year I'll probably be ready to sell this at a decent price and use the proceeds to get another Inspiron but it will have been worth it for sure. In my opinion, for the price, quality, and support, you can't go wrong with a Dell.

For the price, this is a very wonderful laptop. It packs a 3rd generation core i5 processor and the speed is great.

PROS

1. Cheap and really affordable considering what it is packed with.

2. Very light and easy to carry around.

3. Really fast to set up and boot

4. Does not heat up even when I run high end 3D programs like solidworks. good cooling system.

5. Good battery life of up to 5 hours under power saver mode.

CONS

1. It has a really cheap feel and the keyboard keys are a bit smaller than the usual keyboard keys especially the enter key.

2. It froze on the second day of usage and I had to do a hard reset.

3. All the USB ports are on one side of the laptop and really close to each other. So if you have an usual sized flash drive, you could only use two ports because there might be no space for the third.

Well, If you are looking for a nice laptop for good performance but not will to spend too much, This is it!

I'm not quite sure why there are two reviews giving a one-star and three-star review for minor issues. This laptop, at $560, is very nice. Others brands have laptops with these specs for over $700 easy. It's lightweight, quiet, and quick. Granted, there are some design flaws: USB ports mashed together on the left hand side, keyboard slightly smaller than usual with sometimes sticky keys, touchpad without mouse buttons (would have liked mouse buttons). However, the functionality of the computer is great it's quick, it's cool (doesn't heat up to 100+ degrees like some I've used), it's chic (simple design, but nice), lightweight, and the sound isn't too bad either. You're not gonna want this computer if you want to do hardcore gaming on it, but it's wonderful for students and general use. The keyboard comes with a full number pad on the right, which deviates the keyboard slightly to the left. I wish they would have left the number pad off and just made the standard keyboard bigger, but these are minor problems. Compared to other computers I've spent over $900 on, it's good. I wouldn't say it feels cheap, like others have mentioned. I like it so far. If anything goes wrong, I will definitely report back here.

Best Deals for Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 15.6-Inch HD Display Laptop (Black)

This is an excellent laptop for those on a $500-$600 budget. It features a brand new 3rd generation "Ivy Bridge" Intel Core i5 processor. Nothing slow about it. In general, the laptop looks and feels like a more expensive piece of hardware. Very thin, sleek look. Light as a feather. Because of the relatively thin bezel encasing the display, it sort of feels bigger than it actually is. Keyboard is very nice and sturdy, easy to get used to for fast typing. Trackpad looks and feels like a Macbook. All in all, it is one hell of a nice laptop. This can be purchased at Office Depot in store if you're interested in checking it out before you buy it. Worth every penny.

Honest reviews on Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 15.6-Inch HD Display Laptop (Black)

VERY THIN (almost to a level of Ultrabook (but not really as it does not have the SSD Drive and the high endd Materials they use like aluminium)and LIGHT Laptop. I was so surprised of the thinness of this product and the specs that it has given (3rd gen 1.7 ghz i5) at a very competative price (got it for $499).

PROS:

-Very Thin for a 15.6 inch Laptop.

-Has 3rd Gen i5 Intel Chip.

-Surprisingly small power block/lightweight cord.

-Screen has Great Colors (Not saturated like others).

-Minimalistic Style (You have an option to change its appearance easily).

-Heat and Noise transfer to hand are so Minimal (you just can't put a gel cover over the keyboard as they design the airflow to go thru the "Keyboard's outlines" passing thru the left side where the fan outputs the airflow).

-LIGHTWEIGHT compared to other 15.6 inch Laptops (Because the Structure/body is made of Hard Plastic.. which... also made the price of this item affordable).

-HD Webcam is cool.

-Suprisingly light and small Power Block to charge the Laptop.

CONS:

-Laptop Body is Made of Hard Plastic which makes the Hardware looks and feels cheaply (which made the price of this item lower).

-TrackPad was good but not Great.

-Dongle for Ethernet/VGA Monitor Port (which I understand to make the design slimmer).

-A bit slower albeit it has a 6gb of RAM in a i5 Chipset 1.7 ghx turbo boost to 2.6 (which I easily fix by putting 2 X 8gb which equals to 16gb total making it more Responsive)

-a LOT OF BLOATWARE (some useful; some not).

-Keyboard is crampy so you may sometimes accidentally hit the TrackPad (but with a little practice; its duable).

-Sound coming from the speakers feels too much Treble (but it is louder than my VAIO E and the Dolby Surround Works which is tweakable by the way).

I GAVE IT A 5 STAR BECAUSE..

-The Price (which some of the suspected Cons outweighs the Pros of this Laptop).

-The thinness and lightweight.

-It serves the purpose of why a purchase this item which is an affordable; on the go, lightweight computer without me worrying about the value of this item if ever it gets stolen (Not using this for any financial transactions which I use my home computer to do that. Only for Web Surfing/ some emails and some Picture editing).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR people who would want an affordable, thin lightweight 2nd Laptop on the go with the Internal Performance of a highly Spec. Computer. I haven't stop playing/using this eversince I got it so the fun factor is great.

PLUS...A couple of people who saw me with this THOUGHT I WAS USING AN ULTRABOOK which is a great compliment (and I never corrected them...just for the fun of it)!!!

I saw this at the store and thought it looked great. I checked the specs and everything. But what I didn't do was test the keyboard. The keyboard on this is horrible. I would say 25% of the keys I strike do not register. You have to strike extremely hard for the keys to register. I lose a lot of time with my work having to go back and correct my papers for keys that didn't register. This was a waste of $700 for me.

I have owned this laptop for about 8 months at this point. Let me tell you that is by far the fastest laptop I have ever used. It handles most games with ease at full graphics.

That being said there is a major flaw with this laptop. Within 2 months of owning the laptop, the keys started popping off. Dell does have a picture tutorial on how to put this keys back on, but if you follow the tutorial it will often lead to adjacent keys popping off. And if you push too hard when trying to get the keys to latch, then you are out of luck. Luckily my first experience with Alienware customer service ended in a keyboard replacement in less than 2 days from calling tech support. However when it started happening again tech support was not that helpful. I was told I would need to purchase a replacement keyboard for $110! The laptop is under warranty for 4 more months. I was even considering extending the warranty.

My suggestion is to use the built in keyboard as little as possible. I use a logitech keyboard now, my biggest issue is now the laptop does not really travel easily anymore.

Mind you, I give this 3 stars only because of the amount of self maintenance that needs to be done, I have the 1st revision M17x from 2009, with all the bells and whistles and it runs newer games flawlessly still, so for game performance it gets a 5 star review. I agree that the reflective screen is an issue if taken outside or played by a window, but I have no problems with it inside, and usually play at night anyway, don't most gamers? So for looks I give a 5 star review as well, the keyboard lighting themes you can set to match your mouse or background and its very eye-catching and fun.

Now for the part which gets the 0 star review that made me select the 3 star total...

I bought through Dell, and while the warranty period lasted, it was fine.

Rather than having to send it in, they walked me through popping off the touch sensitive panel where the volume controls and eject button etc are when it arrived and they didn't work. I dislike the fact that you have to use a thin screwdriver or other hard/sharp object to pry off a panel made of softish plastic but that's the price you pay for not having visible screws. It was easy enough to replug the tiny connection that had wiggled loose and then snap the plastic back into place, and the problem was solved, for a few months, until putting it down when done using it eventually caused it to wiggle free again. But knowing what had happened the first time I didn't even have to call and wait on hold, just fixed it myself in 10 minutes, this has happened a few more times since then, always with the same fix.

I did have it stop registering the charger as other people have mentioned, but all I was told to do was remove the charger, remove the battery and wait 30 seconds for any residual power to dissipate and then put it all back together. Which basically reset it and fixed the issue. I have had to do this a few times since as well but it always fixes it.

The drivers on the CD are a good starting point for reinstalling WIndows, but they lack good descriptions for anyone not into building their own computers, so finding updated ones online can be fun. The ones on the Dell website are a joke. There are new video card drivers for my 285M on the Nvidia website from within the last month, but the ones specific to the Alienware, which does make a difference, are only as recent as 2010...

If you try to install the ones from Nvidia you will get an error telling you that no eligible hardware is found... even though your card is listed in the description. Its because the way Alienware sets up the system requires custom drivers so your card actually has a slightly different ID than the standard ones and that specific ID isn't listed in the standard driver programming. If you want the latest you will end up spending a few hours doing you tube video watching and forum searching to find the solution which involves rewriting a portion of the driver files to include your model ID, then doing it again to include the basic third video card that is installed along with the 2 running in SLI, and then going into your BIOS and disabling the Hybrid SLI and the Integrated Graphics so that the computer will recognize the SLI cards and not try to run off of the basic card instead. Then you go into your video card control panel and tell it to use the SLI again... And then it works beautifully.

If you are into building your own computer and working on it yourself, these systems are great. I wouldn't trade mine in, I love this beast, but I also know that for a beginning techno geek or someone who needs simple maintenance only devices, this would be one of the biggest headaches ever. Be forewarned...

Best Deals for Alienware AM17XR3-6842BK 17-Inch Laptop (Stealth Black)

I bought an Alienware M17x in November of 2011, I loaded it up with a total cost of $5750. By March I expirenced power issues. The power adapter is plugged in but the system does not recognize the adapter. This causes the CPU to throttle back and run very slow. Dell has trouble shooted the problem over the phone, sent a technician out to replaced the mother board and adapter 5 times now. The problem still exists. They refuse to refund my money or exchange the system. Customer support says it is against policy to exchange unless I have the 4 repairs done within 30 days. Them being slow to dispatch technicians prevents 30 day policy to work in my favor. I did pay for the exteneded priemer warranty, which is now apparent to me that this was also a waste of my money. Search Google "Alienware M17x power issues". You will see I am not alone is the complaint.

I decided to purchase this Lenovo laptop after about two months of serious shopping around. Research told me that Lenovo rates right under Apple for reliability, and Amazon's pricing afforded the best bang for the buck. I couldn't justify paying twice as much for an Apple with less memory and HD capability. I'm not disappointed with the Lenovo at all. I've had it about a month and it fills my every need. Love the backlit keyboard. The only thing that is bothersome is that as I type, the balls of my thumbs sometimes rest on the touchpad and cause undesirable consequences, but I guess that's just a matter of getting used to the mechanics of the thing. If the touchpad had been centered in the unit, this would be less of an issue. The Windows 8 OS took a couple of days to get used to, but I'm ok with it now. One thing I do miss from Win XP is the games package...not available in the Win 8 version. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Actually, I rarely type reviews, but I have to do so in this case. Due to the rather few number of reviews online (and many of them negative), I just wanted to clear things up so buyers like me can decide whether or not to buy it. (I had to go through hundreds of websites before I finally decided to buy the laptop, a week ago)

BUILD QUALITY AND DESIGN: Excellent, excellent, excellent. The design is very sleek and looks fantastic I think that it is the best designed notebook with a keypad. I looked at other color choices, but the matte silver lid (which doesn't really get fingerprints) and the white interiors are really pleasing to the eye. Build quality is also excellent; the notebook feels as sturdy as a lenovo or a mac. As an owner of several brands of laptops, I can say that this is definitely one of the best built laptops.

CPU/GPU PERFORMANCE: O.K. I could have bought a core i3 laptop for the price, but I don't really care. The CPU/integrated GPU are fine for my browsing, multimedia, and office work needs. I realized that I'd rather spend a little more for overall design and build quality rather than CPU performance; you have to make your own choice depending on priorities.

BATTERY LIFE: I've read several reviews slamming the battery life. I get just over 3 hours web browsing over wifi (I don't really visit too many flash-heavy sites) and almost 4 hours with wifi off at about 40-50% brightness; it could be better, but I guess it's not bad considering the size of the laptop.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD: Excellent, excellent, freakingly excellent. My previous laptop also had a chicklet keyboard, but man, this one is awesome! With a full keyboard, separate arrow keys and a numpad, I think this is the best keyboard ever for this type of form factor. You can always check out the keyboard in a store. Since you are going to spend 90% of your time on the keyboard, I think this is a top priority.

The touchpad is also quite good but doesn't support 2-finger scrolling...

DISPLAY: The display is just about average for this class of laptops. Good colors and you can watch videos up to 45 degree angles with a friend.

BLU-RAY: Awesome

SOUND: Could be better, lacks bass, but is clear.

VAIO SOFTWARE: I actually ended up liking most of the media and system software. If you don't like them, you can always uninstall/disable them to improve startup performance/speed. With 4Gb of RAM, I don't really worry though..

QUICKWEB: A dedicated button gets you online in about 20 seconds...No need to boot up windows for a quick web fix...One of the reasons I bought the laptop.

I always regretted not having bought a mac, but not anymore. Everything about this laptop rocks, and I tried and used A LOT of laptops before settling on this one. Would I buy it again? Hell, yeah!

I purchased this laptop about two years ago. The design is sleek and modern. I love the white color, and the inclusion of the camera (skype, here I come). The quality is excellent and the set up was easy. It loads up quickly and wifi works well. I thought the battery-life was durable enough, even though I admit, I don't spend too much time on it. CPU memory is enough for basic home use, however if your goal is to stream a lot of media I would suggest purchasing a higher model with more memory space. This one's more for your bacic internet use.

Best Deals for Sony Vaio Laptop VPCEB32FM/WI

I purchased this laptop online from Best Buy on Black Friday for $500 thinking it was a good deal. I agreed with the other reviewer that this should have been price $300-$350. The battery life only last about 3hrs or less, and the speaker volume is HORRIBLE!!! The on/off button is easily pressed and shouldn't be there. Besides that everything else is just ok.

Honest reviews on Sony Vaio Laptop VPCEB32FM/WI

I got this laptop last year during black Friday. I was in need of a new laptop and this just jumped out at me. I decided to take the plunge and go for the $100 extra option. It gave me one more Gigabyte of Ram(4 in total), a Blu-Ray Drive, a laptop bag, The Karate Kid (Blu-Ray), and some Anti-Virus Software (I didn't care about this since it seemed that they just got old software out of a box and gave it away and free virus protection that is better can be found online). So in total I got it for $499.

Laptop has been great for the time I have had it. Still does all that I could ever want it to do at good speed. I did configure it a bit to make it boot faster and to have little to no applications running on the back ground. For a laptop with an Intel Pentium 2Gz Dual core and a 320 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive. My boot up is usually no more than 50 seconds.

Vaio software is really great. Gives you ease of checking for updates for computer and to do computer diagnostics. System Recovery works well with Windows 7.

Pros:

+ Great Design

+ Blu Ray Player

+ HDMI output

+ 3 usb plugs

+ VGA output

+ E-SATA conection

+ Ease of usage

+ Great keyboard

Neutral:

> Average processor

> Descent display

> Customization

> Durability (No breakdowns in 14 months)

Cons:

Poor sounding speakers

Low battery life

Not many upgrades

Conclusion

When I bought it, $500 made sense for a laptop like this. Now I would say the price tag should be around $300-$350 for a laptop with these specs. The things this laptop have going for it is the Blu Ray player and the great keyboard. So far I will keep using my laptop for school but I am looking forward to upgrading to a much more powerful desktop in the near future.

This computer is a bit on the heavy side especially when needing to carry along to study groups. All in all the computer works great for basic student needs (essays, research, excel). I use it everyday and it hasnt crashed or gave me any issues whatsoever along with webroot security essentials. Sitting in a library studying next to many mac users doesnt make me feel out of place with an equally elegant designed sony vaio either.

First off ... I'm not a gamer. I had a 15.6" Lenovo entry level laptop that worked fine but I wanted more in a laptop. I wanted to be able to watch Blu-ray movies; I wanted an HDMI connection to tie the lap to a TV; I wanted a built in card reader; I wanted dual HDDs so I could designate one strictly for backup. There are several other features that my Lenovo lacked so I opted for a high end gaming machine. I was torn between an Asus gamer and this Toshiba. I did a huge amount of research, comparison between the 2 manufacturers and comparative cost shopping. Finally I pulled the trigger on this Qosmio. All I can say is ...WOW!! It not only met but exceeded my expectations. I upgraded the OS to Win7 Ultimate, threw on Office and A/V software and was good to go. A lot of the Toshiba bloatware is actually useful. I blew it all away and then reinstalled the select ones that I wanted to retain. For instance, Eco Utility is a cool feature ... turn it on with the touch of a button and the screen dims about 10%, all the idiot lights disappear and battery life increases about 25%. Sweet if you're working/playing away from an AC outlet. Tap the desktop button again and Eco is off. Harman/Kardon speakers have to be heard to be believed! With stereo above and a sub woofer below, the sound is unmatched in ANY other laptop. The NVIDIA GTX560M vid card is top of the line, latest state of the art. Intel Core i7; 8GB of 1333 RAM; 1TB of HDD (2-500GBs); Backlit keyboard. I could just go on indefinitely. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 10 laptop. I have zero negative comments. There is no room for improvement. Lastly, Amazon's price beat out the competitors'. Don't hesitate even if you are only remotely considering this unit. Pull the trigger ... with Amazon!!

Just bought this a few days ago at $1399, and NOW you go and take $100 off.

Well anyway, still a good gaming notebook at $1399. Took a bit of doing though. Had to downgrade the bios to 1.10 to fix the occasional choppy framerate that I experienced playing Witcher 2. Also had to go to the global settings in the Nvidia control panel and set the Nvidia processor as my preferred processor in the global settings in order to get some of my other games to run smoothly. But now everything's smooth as butter on max settings at 1080p (Samsung TV). Love the hybrid drive, speakers, and price so much that I'm willing to overlook the max 8gb ram, 1600x900 17" screen, and ugly design (in my opinion).

Not bad for $1399. Even better at $1299.

If your looking for a laptop, that could essentially replace a desktop, then you may wanna highly consider this one.

with all the high end specs, it is definitely worth it, and the price is right. I listen to a lot of music, some has lots of bass,

but no matter what it sounds great. I also play games on it, the graphic are just simply put, amazing. Day or night

i can clearly see the keyboard, which by the way work very well, and feels great. although, when i hit the volume button,

it make a loud beeping sound, and i cant quite figureout how to make it stop, so that one downer...also the mouse buttons

have quite a loud click... but over all this is an amazing computer, and Toshiba did it again :D

I bought this recently for college and got it much cheaper at walmart. I also play civilization 5 and Halo 2. I upgraded the RAM to 6 Gb for now . Having 2 gb of RAM for a windows 7 laptop is a sure fire way to have problems because windows 7 takes up almost all the RAM. so what you should do is go to a local computer shop and buy some used RAM cheap. New 4gb of DDR3 RAM is less than 20 bucks,so getting it used shouldnt cost much at all and the store will probably install it free since it takes two minutes. But this laptop is great for basic use and will not over heat easily because it is a more basic processor. The graphics are crisp for playing my games and watching movies on my laptop. It also is not that heavy, in the past I have had much heavier 15 inch laptops.i like the placement of the USB ports as well and the plug/cord is smaller and light weight than in the past.I also like that the top of the laptop is flat rather than textured. The battery lasts for about four hours on power saver, which is good for a low end laptop. The keyboard is alittle different than I am use to but that isn't a big deal to get use to. Overall,if your using this for basic things like watching movioes, playing older games, lower end new games, office productivity, and other basic uses this is the laptop for you.Compaq is the generic laptops HP makes and rtecently HP has really ramped up quality with its new CEO. HP also will pay for the upgrade to windows 8; if you pay 14.99 to upgrade HP will refund you the cost of the upgrade. I wouldn't touch windows 8 myself, there are alot of changes and complaints are starting to pile up about windows 8. I installed vista home basic 64 on this after I got it.

I got one of these for $279. For the price, and for my purposes, it does what I want it to do (I have a more powerful system for heavier tasks). I upgraded the memory to 8 gigabytes and the laptop is responsive and capable. I would look at this laptop for a teen who is not into heavy gaming, or for someone wanting a reasonably priced system for word processing, surfing the net, and other routine tasks.

If you do lots of tasks that require more processing power, or speed, obviously you would need to look for a more powerful system, and expect to pay accordingly.

setup took less than 5 minutes and from the point where you turn on the laptop to where you are logged in and able to get on the internet is less than 30 seconds... it has an amazing graphics card with a 6.0 rating on the windows index rating.... it has a base score of a 4.5 which for Aero graphics... for windows 7... i was lead to believe by some of the photos that it had a blu-ray drive... but sadly it does not... it can still burn dvd's and cd's so i am okay with that... This is a very good laptop for its price... and it does not feel cheap at all.. i bought a desktop computer for 800 dollars 3 years ago, my desktop still has a better processor, but this laptop beats the socks off my desktop when it comes to graphics... it can play a lot of the newest games like Battlefield 3 and modern warfare 3 :D! i think the only downside somewhat is the screen, it is not as High Def as i want it to be... my Desktop Dell Inspiron One 19 is still better when it comes to screen quality... and i am always amazed when i watch full screen on it, but for this laptop, the quality is very good, but the colors dont seem to be as vibrant as my desktops... you can sort of fix it by messing with contrast, brightness and color under the display setting in the control panel... but if you like to play games, or even want this for school work or business... i will recommend this laptop, it can install Microsoft Office 2010 out of the box as long as you have a trial key... and so far i am loving it :D! runs great and fast.... And for the speakers, they are louder than my desktops, but of course they dont have a good base, so i still use my trusty headphones to listen to my songs... but it is always fun to unplug my laptop and let my friends listen to the music as well, mainly because it sounds pretty good :) if there are any questions please feel free to ask and i will try to answer them

----EDIT----

i took away one star for those people who like a long battery life, i do not care that much for this part, because i carry around my laptop charger anyways...

I am 16. I have built three computers from parts, and have a small side business fixing computers. My old laptop recently died on me, and my parents purchased me a netbook for school. Perhaps i am spoiled by my six core desktop, but my super slow netbook was unacceptable for me. I did some research, and found on that my my needs/wants. This laptop has almost instant response time, runs windows 7 64 bit, and has half a gig of video card memory. I was a little wary of the idea of splitting the CPU between a graphics card and the main CPU processes, but i have had no problems with that. It can play all the games i own, and will usually put new games on high settings, but some times i lower the settings back down to medium to avoid the rare lag that occurs. I have played Modern Warfare 3, Dawn of War II, Civilization V, Supreme commander 2, and TF2 without any issues. I can see using this laptop for the next 3 or 4 years. And at only $430, this is a great deal.

I ordered this laptop after I cracked the screen on my other HP. I am absolutely in love with it. Has Windows 7, has HDMI and VGA outputs so I can connect my laptop to the TV. Keyboard is awesome, keys do not stick and they are space perfectly apart. Scroll pad is awesome as well, doesn't lag and moves as fast as my finger does. Great graphics, I am not a gamer or anything, I use this for my homework, and it exceeds every requirement I have. LOUD speakers. Comes with SRS speakers, crystal clear sound! Battery life is excellent, considering my old laptop would only last about 30 minutes unplugged. This one last about 4 hours. VERY FAST delivery, got it in two days. Never runs hot, and starts up soooo fast. Set up was super easy as well. I would recommend this laptop to any college student. As long as your not using this to play WOW or other large online games then this is the laptop for you. Absolutely no complaints here. HP computer just keep getting better and better!

Honest reviews on HP g6-1d60us (15.6-Inch Screen) Laptop

You can't go wrong with this price! My old computer bit the dust, and this is a more than adequate replacement! Here's my take on the system so far:

Packaging:

Pretty minimalist, and well secured. Amazon did not do a good job packing the box, as it was allowed to shift during transit. The packaging by HP is well done, and it kept the computer safe on its journey. Everything was easy to unpack. Here are the contents:

-Computer (of course!)

-Power cord (two part with a brick)

-Battery

-Get started guide

-A few advertisements for accessories

-A note pad (useful!)

First Impressions:

The computer has a pretty slick look to it. It's lightweight and opens easily on its hinge. The keys will take some getting used to-they are very flat and square. The track pad is generously sized-and has a dotted texture. Overall, the computer is well put together, but it has a plastic feel to it.

Running the computer:

It's swift and responsive. There aren't too many pre-installed programs; which is quite awesome! As an upgrade from Windows XP, it's going to take some time to adjust. But, that aside, everything runs like a charm. I haven't had a chance to test out the battery yet, as the computer has only been in my possession for two days.

I'll update if anything goes awry, but so far, this was an unbelievable deal!

I purchased the same laptop from Staples for over $100 less than here when it was on sale several weeks ago. It has about five hour battery life on a FULL Charge with normal screen brightness. With a dimmed screen, the battery life should be longer. But I still like a brighter screen, and five hours are more than enough for me. (The other reviewer complaining battery life might not get a full charge before testing, I guess)

My 1d60us comes with A4-3320M CPU, which has 2MB L2 cache, vs. A4-3305M's 1MB. It also comes with a 750GB hard drive, not the 640GB advertised. I am not the only one who got those upgrades. But I can not tell what the Amazon ones are like. If you might need to connect your laptop to a HD TV, the HDMI on this computer is a convenient feature. Not all the notebooks on this price range have HDMI, and bluetooth as well.
