I am wondering if the reviewer who gave the one star is knowledgeable at all about computers. I design them and I have to say the low power cpu, 15 w compared to one using much more translates into long battery life. Face it if you just use a base number and say it is terrible, you dont understand that the cpu speed scales with need. most time in a computer the cpu does little and its response is not required to be fast for those tasks as it is wasting power. this cpu can run from 1.8 to over 3 ghz depending on the need and allowing lower power consumption. The new Haswell processor also has a number of features that make it more efficient at lower speed meaning to accomplish a task it does not need to run as fast as an older processor to do the same work. Maybe the person giving only one star works for apple, or maybe is just computer illiterate but either way it is saddening to see ranting rather than facts in reviews.

Excellent hardware, speedy performance, amazing battery life! The new intel chip (4th gen) does this machine justice. Only weak point is the sound output underwhelms.

very good computer. the processor is nice and setting the gpu to certain programs it's helpful for battery life.

the Wi-Fi seems unreliable to me and doesn't perform well enough for my online game. asus Windows 8 recovery is terrible and causes half my difficulty

Honest reviews on ASUS Vivobook V551LB-DB71T 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

Low power CPU's are usually more expensive and have lower speed. Most of MacBook Air use these family of CPUs.

If you want higher speeds, then it will overheat like an oven where you can fry an egg.

So, choice is yours. I prefer low power CPUs. Now they are able to make up to 2GHZ and 3GHz in turbo mode based on current available technology.

No VGA port? It has just the one HDMI port and I think this means it is impossible to have an extended desktop on dual external monitors? If this is the case, this is a show stopper in my opinion as I work with dual monitors while docked at work.

This is fairly basic laptop I use it everyday for school, netflix, etc. It's average, but it manages to stand above similarly priced laptops for a couple of solid reasons. For one, the "IceCool" palm rest is surprisingly convenient. I thought it would get warm after a while, but when I'm typing my hands are always cool and it's nice after writing for a while to be able to experience that coolness. Secondly, it's a very durable laptop. I've accidentally dropped it a few times, and it still looks and works fine. It also has a fairly long battery life; I'm still averaging about 4.5 hours of listening to music and typing before I need to plug it in.

My only qualms are that the built-in speakers are fairly weak, but the best remedy to that is to simply plug in your headphones! This laptop is worth the price for a laptop that just gets it done. You won't be playing any graphic video games or anything, but for everything else it manages just fine.

If you can find a better laptop for this price, I'd be amazed. I received it today and booted it up. Lightning quick reflexes this thing has. I was amazed to see how nice the cooling system is. I have had my laptop on all day and I can't even feel any heat what so ever, NONE. The keys feel great, nothing on this laptop feels cheap. Very impressed, I was a long time buyer of HP Products... but I think I am ASUS for life now. Very very, impressed as I said. Look forward to using this laptop for quite sometime. I had bought it as what I thought would be a temporary laptop, but think I might end up getting another some day soon. Surprised there's not more good reviews on this really... My mom owns a newer Acer laptop, and it was about the same price... honestly junk compared to this. Seriously. 5**************

Best Deals for ASUS X54C-ES91 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

I bought this laptop computer for an acquittance, in the first two days of usage, she experimented a couple of BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), this happened while shutting down when installing updates, also, when I turned it on the first time, and while plugged in to the wall, the computer itself shut off (My first guess is that this was related to changing the time and date, which triggered a suspended state, but still, weird).

I did a memtest+ pass without errors, and also checked the hard drive with the manufacturer's tool, no errors either.

There are dozens of preinstalled applications, half of them by ASUS, I haven't removed them all, as some seen necessary for functions like blocking the touchpad while typing.

I'm a little worried about those issues, shouldn't happen to a new user at all, but besides that, performance is acceptable, it is quiet, and lightweight for its size. I'll update any other issues.

Overall, if there weren't BSOD and spontaneous shutdown issues, this a great machine for its price.

Honest reviews on ASUS X54C-ES91 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Laptop works very well with a good price for dollar. Only complaint is the processor Pentium B960 does not have physical address extension support plus the 64bit addresses are buggy. Only 3G of the 4G expansion of ram is recognized for a total of 5G (of 6G) ram total. Hopefully fixed in kernel, but it may just be an inherent flaw in the hardware.

Was going to only give this 4 stars, but then I realized that this computer does exactly what I expected it to do and for a very good price at that. It is a quick, snappy computer that has been able to handle day to day use for the past month. I have used it for the normal stuff like internet browsing, movie watching, music listening that anybody looking for a budget computer would do. The USB 3.0 is an awesome aspect that has allowed me to use the hdd from my old laptop with this one and use it at great speeds and no problems. The touchpad is nice and big with a good texture. The size of the keyboard is nice with the numpad on the right. And, as advertised, I have not experienced over heating around the touchpad after extended use. The HDMI port is also awesome. The computer also came with minimal bloatware, and after about a half hour with revo uninstaller, I had everything that I didn't want gone for good.

The only problem I have with this computer is the laptop speakers are underquality compared to my old laptop, and even when I was using my headphones, the sound was of poor quality. Nothing to lose sleep over though. It would have also been nice to have another USB port, but again, not a huge deal.

In all, if you want a budget laptop for a college student like me, or just a good family laptop that can endure everyday use, look no further. Register the warranty and the accidental damage protection plan and this laptop should last for the long haul.

Appart from what the other guy said, this computer is a decent quality unit capable of running a lot of games. The hard drive is plenty big enough to hold your games and music, and with 3gb of ram its quite fast. I admit the graphics card is below todays games like call of duty modern warfare 2, but if you want a computer to run games like world of warcraft, or just surf the web or business then this is a great buy for the price!

Nice modern PC laptop for multiple lifestyle users... thumbs up Toshiba!

The computer itself is halfway decent. But I've had a number of problems with over the years from a failed cooling unit as well as a bad motherboard. Also, the power cable is an absolute piece of garbage. I've had to replace mine three times in just a few months! If you value your money, look elsewhere for a computer. I'm never buying a Toshiba again.

I order a 14" Ibook, and i am stunned! This Ibook may be considered out dated...BUT is really great for every day use! Sure you may need to set up for your first Internet's use... but when every thing is all done and put in it is well worth it! I used to be a windows person, but now that i found what i have been missing for rek. time, it feels fun to be on a computer again. AND to top things off most of the service i have been receiving on this product is AMAZING! I ran into a bump with the product its self(battery was no good)i am currently working on getting one...is on the way not at my expense... This is a must have laptop at the price along with uses... This lap top comes with the software you need... you don't need any other software... because its everything you need. I was really hoping this thing wouldn't replace my windows and something to give to my older brother for school. but this devise belly's up to the bar, now i just want to throw away that windows 7. it my be a down grade of software, it is smooth it is speedy.

The product its self comes neatly packed, BEAUTIFUL and clean... devise which i expected had some usage on it but grate. i really appreciate the seller: Narby-Ken I am in-pressed. JUST SO EVERYBODY knows i am not being paid for this review.

This Review was made on a Apple Ibook G4! Great devise!

Honest reviews on Used iBook G4/1.42 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, 60 GB internal drive

Besides the fact that the iBook did not come with the Classic Environment installed as advertised, it has run flawlessly for three months.

I love the keyboard, it works perfectly with a two button mouse and scrollbutton, and it does a bootable backup to a Firewire external drive using Silverkeeper.

Tiger is a very nimble operating system and runs in 1/3 the ram as my iMac and actually surfs the web faster than my iMac.

It's a great little compact computer.

This isn't the perfect laptop. I know it and it's my first one. There are many this it can't do, so make sure you know the details before buying it. But i find that it is perfect for my needs. I has Microsoft office, I can watch youtube, movies (with the dvd) surf the web and the seller even had final cut pro which was a bonus.

Recommendation for future owners:

Consider updating to mac OS 10.5 and up (preferably work it out with your seller) Mine came with 10.4.11 which works, but a lot of software I've tried to download require 10.5.3 or so and up which gets frustrating. Thankfully Sims 2 works with even lower software than 10.4 which was something short of a miracle but do your research when looking for games and other software

Here are my comments about a few things I noticed. Hopefully these will be useful to other people in making a decision.

Likes

-----

Price, lightweight, looks like a Macbook Air, matte screen, feels metallic solid, backlit keyboard, speakers, motherboard quality (I hope it lasts long, I read that ASUS is famous for its motherboards; my previous ThinkPad motherboard failed after about 2 years of use)

fan noise barely audible at any time, had to bring the laptop close to the ear to hear it running.

Temperature gets barely hot at the bottom even after many hours of use, heat dissipation is very efficient with all metallic surfaces

Neutral

-------

keyboard I don't like chiclet style keyboards, not really good for typing. My previous Thinkpad had an awesome keyboard.

processor core i3, kind of slow, but I knew it while buying, guess that's why it's cheaper.

SSD does not boot any faster. It's as if the laptop has a regular spinning HD.

Battery I'm getting ~ 3-4 hours with regular use.

Wireless no problem so far, connects immediately upon booting/waking up.

Dislikes

--------

Mousepad the worst thing in this ultrabook is the mousepad. It's enormous in size (there was really no need!) and because of that my hands keep touching it and making mistakes all the time while typing. I am getting used to typing with my wrists slightly lifted off of the surface. Moreover, mousepad is very sensitive to touch, I am not sure if there is any setting which can be changed to make it less sensitive, will look around. Also I miss the dedicated left/right click buttons. I had them in my previous Dell and ThinkPad laptops and found them useful for navigation.

Pros:

Quick, but not lightning speed

Amazing design, weighing in around 3 pounds

Back-light keyboard and its spacing

Ideal for school, or everyday use

3 usb ports

Comes w/ USB to Ethernet & Mirco USBto HDMI cable.

Cons:

Battery life is average

Fan is on the bottom, but rarely gets hot

Loaded with bloatware

Fan is not completely silent, but is not distracting

No DVD/CD player, not a deal-breaker however

Trackpad is unnecessarily large

For the most part, I believe this laptop is a great run for its money. I am very impressed with its design, and is ideal for me since I do not plan on doing graphic design or gaming on the laptop. 4gb of ram is plenty, and is for the most part fast but like I said it is not blazing speed. I can type flawlessly on the keyboard, and in addition the back-light keyboard is a nice feature. The sound is pretty good, and the speakers are located to the right/left side of the laptop. Upgrading the battery and deleting the bloatware isn't to much of a hassle. This is a laptop worth buying.

I travel a lot so a thin laptop sounded like a great idea. I used to keep it in my backpack but the lappy is so thin and the screen so poorly protected that it has scratches on it now from the keyboard. It's fast though. Never put any weight on it and forget about discs and this could be a good pc for you.

I'm a somewhat advanced computer user and had been looking at laptops for a while before buying the Acer AS5742Z-4685. I dug into all of the specs of about 6 different models and zeroed in on this one as the best value. The price point was above the $300 I spent on our 'family' laptop a year ago, but I'm glad I spent the extra $100 (check out some of the private sellers' prices).

Pros: Crystal-clear LED screen, fast computing, great multi-tasking, not too much crap-ware pre-installed, lightweight, and easy-to-use keyboard

Cons: Battery life is good, but not great; price point is a bit high if you're willing to wait for Black Friday or Gold Box deals... which I obviously wasn't)

Overall, this laptop is a good buy in the $500 range, a great value at the $400 level, and--if it ever goes on sale in the $300 to 350 range--don't miss your chance to buy it!

Bought this laptop for about $450, free expedited shipping from Warehouse Sur+ (Amazon seller). Arrived late due to FedEx, not the fault of Amazon, Warehouse Sur+ or Acer, of course. It was double boxed for shipping, arrived in excellent condition.

Excellent finish which makes smudges hard to see. Screen is nice and big, crystal clear. We have 4 Acer monitors and all work very well. Not a single issue with them and two are several years old, so we were pretty sure Acer would make a good laptop as well.

The laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium but no DVD for it so you can't reinstall easily. The key code for it is on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, so if you get an OEM Windows 7 DVD that key should work to reinstall Windows 7. It also comes with some craplets, but you might be interested in McAfee's antivirus (we weren't, we use Microsofts Security Essentials, free download from MS with an authenticated Windows system).

We reformatted the hard drive into multiple partitions and installed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate (we use BitLocker drive data encryption for data on the laptop and on the USB drives). The reformat and reinstall worked just fine (and no craplets!). Since there is no disk with the system, there were a lot of missing drivers (for the network card, wireless device, several Intel drivers, the camera, etc). All were easy to find at the Acer web site (get them beforehand, unless you have another computer to download with).

Once we added the network driver, we could instantly see the local network computers and printers, and internet. Once that was found, we went to Microsoft Updates and that seemed to find most the other drivers for updating, including the video card drivers. The Acer website for the AS5742Z lists drivers for both AMD video cards and nVidia, although you probably don't want or need both, and they are large files. The Microsoft Update website detected and installed the appropriate video driver, which makes life a lot easier.

If you decide you want to install Windows XP (we tried just to check if it works) it does run fine, although we did have to go into the BIOS at bootup and change the SATA setting to IDE. The default value crashes XP during installation. That's a minor issue, since Windows 7 is so much better anyway. If you use the normal 32 bit XP, you won't use all of the 4GB of ram; you need the 64 bit operating systems to do that, which is why Acer provides the Windows 7 64 bit version.

The laptop has 3 USB ports, two on the right side, one on the left. We put USB thumbnail drives into them all to test them and had no issues. We tried the wireless network, it was fine. We also connected to our 10/100/1000 wired network, and the laptop transferred a large file at the full 1Gbps speed. We then tried a wireless modem from Verizon, and it also worked as expected.

The keyboard is very nice for a laptop. The mouse pad on the laptop is ok, but we prefer a normal mouse. We put in a USB mouse made by Roswell (a cheapo one for $4) and it worked right away. The 4GB of RAM were fully accessible, thanks to the 64 bit operating system (both on the OEM version it came with and our own Win7 64 Ultimate).

The only thing we will get for it is a car charger. We have a standard laptop briefcase, it fits into that fine.

Overall, we are delighted with this laptop and expect to buy another one in a few months.

Best Deals for Acer AS5742Z-4685 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)

This is an amazing laptop. Screen is crystal clear and very bright. The top cover and spots where your wrist sit have a nice texture to them making fingerprints and smudges hard to see. The p6100 is a great budget processor. This beats down the similar price athlon II mobile processors and seems to be ahead of the old core 2's in benchmarks. The Battery life seems to be about 3.2hours while browsing the net and working with outlook and word. Keys have a great feel and the way it is designed, you really cant get food or other small objects caught under them. This laptop does have 3 usb, 1 on the left and 2 on the right.

Highly recommended!

Honest reviews on Acer AS5742Z-4685 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)

I bought the HP G62-340US last week but returned it when I saw this Acer Aspire with 1 more GB of RAM for only $20 more at an office superstore. I am a typical home user who uses the laptop primarily for photos, web browsing, some word processing and filing taxes. Wow, I am impressed by this laptop. I especially love the number key pad on the right hand side. That's a luxury that I never had with any of my previous laptops. The keyboard is also very nice with full-size keys that did not require too much force to register. Unlike other reviewers, I did not have any ergonomic issues with the off-center touchpad. Installed Internet Explorer worked seamlessly. I was also able to download Google Chrome as an alternative web browser. So far, no complaints with this value-priced Acer Aspire.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Acer AS5742Z-4685 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)

Two things annoyed me about this laptop once I bought it (new) and started using it. One was that the CD/DVD drive was extremely flimsy, and the other was that the fan for the motherboard was constantly turning on and off, on and off for no reason, and was very loud. The former problem I decided I could live with, the latter I decided I could not. I did some research and found that many others had had the same problem with this laptop and had written that the problem could be solved by flashing the BIOS. Well, of course, I thought a laptop was supposed to work right if it's brand new, but anyway I contacted tech support and they told me which BIOS file to download, which I did, and I flashed the BIOS. It seemed to make the fan better. However, a few days later, I was watching a video on YouTube, and BAM, the computer froze and the motherboard started making a loud, repetitive clicking sound. I restarted it and tried to watch the video again and it did the same thing. I have never seen that happen to any computer, new or old. I cannot recommend buying this laptop. Go for another brand.

My five-year old 15' Toshiba Qosmio went into the fritz so I test-drove various notebooks with BD playback (a must-have feature), including the S3320. Liked enough of what I saw and read (2nd gen Core 5, under $800, 4.6 lbs., etc.) so I ordered it over the phone. Had it since the 21st and so far I'm pleased as peach even though I still miss some features from my ol' '07 Qosmio model (which is my polite way of saying 'the S3220 built-speakers are worthless, get some headphones pronto').

I have very basic needs: multimedia apps (for my small business, Skyping with relatives overseas, etc.), lightweight enough to carry w/o hurting (my previous Qosmio was almost 7 lbs!), Blu-ray on board (for road trips or lazy afternoons at work), a decent-enough battery (the ol' Qosmio barely lasted a little over an hour) and the latest processor tech (Toshiba released this just a few weeks ago) so I don't have to worry about being outdated before year's end.

So far so good with the S3330. The battery lasted a little over four hours when watching back-to-back BD movies. I'm not really pushing it as hard as I could or customized beyond tweaking the out-of-the-box settings (i.e. deleted the bloatware). After a weekend of hours-long Skyping sessions (the 1.3 MP camera is neither terrible or excellent, it's just there) and mucho internet surfing the laptop remained cool except for the heat vent on the top right corner (where the hot air is concentrated and dispatched outwards) with no visible functionality issues. For average usage (few hours a day of web surfing, Blu-ray viewing, invoice typing, Mom Skyping, etc.) this one does the trick at under $800. For gaming or more taxing tasks though... well, someone else is bound to review these babies soon. :-)

One not-so-small caveat though is the reflective screen. It's no better or worse than most budget laptop LED screens (OK but not ASUS or AlienWare pretty), but the sweet spot viewing angle is either eluding me completely or at this small a size the S3220 doesn't have one. Even in a dark room with the lights out I was never able to achieve a 100% satisfying, perfect-view angle. It's a small-but-consistent nuisance that is worth reducing the rating by a full star for, IMO.

This laptop was an awesome buy in 2009 and considering I got it for $650 I couldn't go wrong. I only have 3 problems with this laptop.

1. The touchpad doesn't work right while gaming and I have the newest drivers and such

I don't know why someone would want to use a touchpad for gaming but if you do it won't work

2. The sound quality is very nice but it is also very low...

It has amazing sound quality but in a slightly noise environment you can forget about using the speakers

3. It actually overheats during intense gaming and will shut off completely for 10 minutes. I had the laptop hit 108 degrees Celsius...

This is easily solved by purchasing a cooling pad but those aren't very cheap.

First off, I need to mention that I am a big fan of Linux and in particular Linux mint 6 (a version of Ubuntu) for it's free assortment of software and improved security over windows and OS 10. Linux lets me do everything I need to do with a computer such as Internet, office, bit-torrent, videos, and music. If it had software to let me use/sync my iphone to it's fullest I would probably never use windows again ... but I digress. I was in the market for an affordable netbook for my wife. All she uses a computer for is to word process, do email, and surf the internet. She isn't the most savvy internet surfer and I'm concerned when she shops online about her letting hackers gain access to sensitive financial accounts. I initially considered a mac but decided against it for financial reasons. The Eeepc was also a choice but the odd arrangement of the touchpad was a turnoff. After seeing a similar linux netbook made by Dell (with their great reputation), I was sold. The netbook was easy to purchase from dell with plenty of options and arrived promptly. It worked great right away and behaved perfectly. It has it's own flavor of Ubuntu 8.04 and made it easy for my wife to interact with it according to her limited needs. Eventually the Ubuntu automatic update kicked in and wanted me to update. Being a pc user this was not out of the ordinary since pc users are used to daily antiviral updates, firewall updates, spyware updates, and windows security updates ... so I updated. After the restart it would not start, oops! I also did not have an external dvd/cd drive, double oops and couldn't restore with the provided backup disk!! I called dell tech support but they told me that they did not support the os and that I should call canonical. Canonical said that they didn't have a financial arrangement with dell and would not be able to help me. Being used to making linux flash drives I tried to make a flash drive out the provided dell software ... didn't work. I checked online for the dell linux OS iso image but dell deleted it. I called dell and they were of little support and didn't know why the software was removed. Eventually I used an Ubuntu 8.04 flash drive and reinstalled the OS. I Could not get sound to work but my wife doesn't do music or youtube and was content so I stopped there. I tried a Linux mint 6 flash drive but even it with all it's extra drivers could not get the sound to work. Probably in time the necessary dell drivers will come out with one of the Linux versions and I'll try again. The purpose of this review is to let potential buyers know that dell will not support you if you go the Linux route. If you do you may have a lot of work to do on your own to get it running once it crashes. Lastly even if you have an external drive you probably will still not be able to restore the OS. I got this computer for my wife. So far I have had no problems. Screen looks great. Programs run great in this computer. Only thing I am opposing is about window system and trial versioned softwares which keep soliciting and give warning about risks.

I got this from Amazon Warehouse Deals, and this was a deal, there was nothing wrong with the product just sold as an opened box, run fast, looks nice from the previous metal color. start up is fast, just had to clean up all the unnecessary software that comes with it but runs really fast for what i need.

Searched everywhere to find a replacement base for a HP DV7-4165dx that had a broken hinge and couldn't find anything. Until i came around this. Mike was very helpful with the purchase and would definitely do business with him again. The part is an OEM replacement part so the quality is perfect.

I bought this for my dv7-4280us which also had the broken hinge issue. I haven't yet installed it (waiting on a replacement video cable), but it's the correct part and quite a bit cheaper than directly from HP.

The original bottom plate for my daughter's HP laptop broke, due to excessive stress caused by the hinge tension being too tight. This is an exact replacement, and I had no trouble installing it. Excellent!

What do you want me say about it?

awesome~~~oh my god~~~It is incredible fit my laptop~~

Of course, it would fits my laptop HP Pavilion dv7-4191nr . it made by HP and for this model.

HP sold it too expensive over USD $100; especially, on a faded out model.

If anyone who worked in a Injection molding company, he/she would know the material cost per piece......under USD $10.

Anyway, they cost down after I purchased it. This is really suck.

Wowwwwww, how could you hate this so much?!

Okay, first of all, its not exactly a very portable laptop, indeed. I simply use it at home and most the time keep it plugged in, it's also a little bulky to be lugging around.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course this computer is no new or top of the line, but for the price it is a great value. I bought this as a gift for my niece. She wanted a laptop computer and even with the cost of laptops being so low I wasn't looking to spend $300 for a new one. She will be using this for school to do research, type up papers etc and this will more that fit the bill for her needs. The only extra I needed to buy for it was a network dongle and its all set. I think she will like this gift. I know I was impressed for what I got for the price. Lets face it, it works!

This was a used machine which I expected would be in fairly rough shape. To my pleasant surprise, it was in pristine condition. I have no complaints whatsoever. There is no BS here. All of their representations were accurate from condition of the product to when it would be delivered. Go with this company.
