Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848 Notebook Review
Appart from what the other guy said, this computer is a decent quality unit capable of running a lot of games. The hard drive is plenty big enough to hold your games and music, and with 3gb of ram its quite fast. I admit the graphics card is below todays games like call of duty modern warfare 2, but if you want a computer to run games like world of warcraft, or just surf the web or business then this is a great buy for the price!

HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100 - Pentium M 1 GHz ULV - RAM 512 MB - HDD Reviews
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because one part was broken (which the seller described when I purchased it). Other than that, this is the best computer ever. And when I took it to school with me, others (who had purchased more expensive laptops) were going ga-ga over it.
You can write on the outside of the cover when it is closed. You use a stylus pen which pops out of its own little compartment when you gently press down on it. You can detach the keyboard completely if you don't want to use it. There are so many different features that it is just amazing. Sometimes when I take it to class, I will go to the "One Note" program and click "record" and let it record the teacher speaking. I can even write notes on it. Both the voice and the written notes are typed right into a Word document for me.
If you can still find one of these, I would definitely recommend buying it because it is so worth the money. I only paid $220.00 on amazon.com which was a steal deal.

Review of Lenovo ThinkPad T420 14" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core i5-2430M
The Fn key and Ctrl key on the lower left of the keyboard are switched and is a huge inconvenience. It is stupid to see Lenovo mess around with the universal design of computer keyboard. I work with programmers and system engineers and we all HATE this bad design and will not buy it again.

ThinkPad R61 Notebook 2GHz 14.1" Widescreen Review

For some years, LENOVO was making notebook PCs for IBM. All ThinkPads had the IBM logo on them, plus LENOVO in smaller letters elsewhere.
Since 2004, I have purchased nothing but reconditioned IBM/LENOVO machines and have always been most satisfied with them. This R61 is the first ThinkPad I've owned that doesn't include the IBM logo. I can see no difference in it layout or quality-wise from my IBMs of the past.
I prefer this brand because of its DURABILITY. I've heard that ThinkPads are often the choice of on-the-road businessmen. True or not, these are built to last.
The R61 has all the features I want, plus a few that don't interest me. (I never use the DVD burner, mini light, touch pad or fingerprint scanner.) Stereo sound is strong, plus there's an all important miniature headphone jack. Audio adjustments can be seen on-screen. The keyboard's white painted-on characters only wear off if you type with long fingernails, a lesson personally learned with previous notebooks. The processor is an Intel Centrino.
ThinkPads are ideal for heavy daily use. Mine is on at work from midnight to 7 am, and again in the afternoon from 2 to 5 pm or so. That's at least ten hours a day. Every one of my 4,100-plus AMMY reviews was written on a ThinkPad, and I'm a key pounder. The machines really hold up great.
I give this R61, hard tested now for over a year, my highest recommendation!

Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 Reviews
About Me
I'm currently a full time student that was looking for a desktop replacement. I also have a background in IT. As a full time student, I mostly enjoy using my laptop for consuming/creating media content and school work. When purchasing this system, I did extensive research and was also considering the other "P" series laptops with vanilla-colored brushed-aluminum finishes at Best Buy. While this system is nearly worthy of a five-star rating for its class, I have deducted one because of battery life and because I had to exchange it twice. The following categories are my impressions of different areas of this system.
Display:
This system has the best display of any Toshiba laptop I have seen to date; many other laptops too. If it weren't for the slightly off viewing angles, I'd have guessed it to be an IPS display. When comparing this screen to the other Toshiba models on the display floor at Best Buy, it looked vibrant and bright in contrast to the murky and dim screens of the other P55 series Toshibas. These models include the P55t-A5202, E45t-A4200 and P55-A5200. These are the 15" touchscreen, non-touch and Ultrabook models that are currently being sold with Ivy-Bridge and Haswell processors at Best Buy. This system has an HD1080P panel and the resolution looks great compared to many of the poorer 1366*768 screens. The screen is also very bright and vibrant; I'm assuming it to be at least 300+ nits compared to the other models at around 200 nits or less. I'm curious to find out who the supplier is for this 17" screen/panel considering this is the first time I have ever been impressed by a computer screen from Toshiba out of at least six of them that I have owned. See for yourself if you are considering this system in the Toshiba lineup. One negative though is that the two previous computers for this model that I purchased had screen issues. The first one had a couple of dead pixels. These are pixels that don't light up (not too noticeable, but It's a pet-peeve on mine). The second system had two hot pixels (pixels that don't turn off; they were green and blue). This is partly why I rate this system at four stars. The third system was a charm and I can't express enough how impressed and satisfied I am with it.
Speaker Sound/Noise
The sound quality is great/fantastic! It has a wide range from low basses to high trebles. The speakers are Harmon Kardon. Harmon Kardon speakers are used in premium items and vehicles such as the 2014 Subaru Forester and Mini Cooper. This laptop has some of the best speakers I've ever heard in a laptop. They go great with the screen for an awesome movie or light gaming experience.
Fan Sound
One of my pet peeves when purchasing a laptop is the noise it may produce. I do not want to be distracted by the system, especially if I'm up late or stressed out working on a paper and find myself easily distracted. For example, I was temporarily using an HP laptop. The fan would continually spin up and idle down with no particular set speed. This was very annoying. This Toshiba (P75-A7200) I'm very glad to say does not give off any loud/excessive fan noise. It has variable speeds and is usually runs on low out of it four speeds. The fan gives off a consistently pleasant whoosh of air that blends in with the ambient noise of the room or class unless you are taxing the system.
Keyboard
The keyboard was nearly a deal breaker for me considering I spend hours on end typing and working on papers at times. I first considered this laptop "P" series from from Toshiba because I was excited to see that they brought back the raised tile keyboard. However, when I began to test type on it, I found the keys to be the same, but the keystrokes to be slightly stiff and shallow. This makes for slightly uncomfortable feedback for extended periods of typing. With time though, I have adjusted to the keyboard and my typing is more accurate and fairly comfortable. The keys also make crisp click/tap sounds, which provides reassurance and cadence while typing. The keyboard is back-lit. There is a function key to activate/deactivate it. The first press will turn the back-light on that will time out after a couple of seconds of not being typed on. The second press will keep the keyboard back-light on regardless of any activity on the keyboard. There is also a circular light around the power button when the system comes on. There is little to no "trampolining" effect on this keyboard for those of you who care and understand what I'm talking about. Strangely, it's also worth noting that the arrow keys do not feel the same as the rest of the keyboard, they feel soft and don't have the "crisp click/tap" sound I described earlier in the paragraph.
Touch-pad
The touch-pad responds consistently. I had systems in the past where the track pad would stop responding and go back to working. Two-finger scrolling is smooth and consistent. My most favored feature that I'm ecstatic about is the two finger tap for right-click. The track pad can also be disabled by double tapping on an image in the upper left hand corner. Once you double-tap the image, it will light up white so you know the track pad has been deactivated. The track pad works well enough that I do not find it necessary to use a mouse with it when I'm out of my study room and moving about with the laptop on campus. The track pad provides crisp feedback and sound when pressed upon. The surface texture is nothing worth writing home about. It feels like smooth plastic with slight resistance.
Ports and CD-ROM
It has an arsenal of all USB 3.0 ports (four total) with Toshibas charging technology for when the system is powered off. It also has an Ethernet jack, HDMI, VGA and separate microphone and headset jacks. I find the CD-Rom eject button difficult to press since it provides little to no feedback.
Performance
The hard-drive that came with this system holds back its potential. It's a 750GB drive that runs at 5400RPM. I swapped it for aa SSD (Samsung's 840 series at 250GB). To my excitement, I found that there is a second hard-drive bay in this system after exposing the internals. This laptop (P75-A7200) has one screw that holds on the bottom panel. Also worth noting is that this system comes with 8GB of RAM. Under the bottom panel are two empty DIMM slots. You cannot access the 8GB of RAM that comes with this system by removing the bottom panel. I don't know if there are other DIMM slots available or if the 8GB of RAM are soldered on. I added an additional 8GB of RAM since I had them on hand. My system has a total of 16GB of RAM and it has been able to handle anything I've thrown at it. The latest 4th generation Haswell processor comes in this system if that matters to you. I'm a techie, so it matters. Otherwise, I wouldn't have compromised on this system given that I was initially interested in a 15" Retina Macbook Pro. No Haswell meant no purchase for me.
Wifi
This system comes with one of the better wifi cards offered in laptops. It's an Intel Centrino 2230n. I have not had any issues with dropped wifi signals. My home is 2200 Sq ft and most devices I own have trouble getting a signal on the other side of the house opposite of the router. This is why I must use a range extender in my home. However, this system only drops one bar going from one side of the house to the other making use of the range extender unnecessary. I'm very impressed since this is rare.
Battery
Time for the bad news. The battery life is rated at 3.88 hours. The good news is that you can get about 5 to 6 hours out of it in eco mode while browsing the web or working on papers in Google Docs or MS Office. You'll likely get around two hours watching a video. Another piece to the good news is that the battery is interchangeable and can currently be purchased through Toshiba for $100. If you are considering any of the other premium laptops offered by Toshiba, be aware that the batteries are sealed in them and you cannot easily access the hard-drives without disassembling the cases. This was another reason I choose the 17" over the 14" and 15" P-series systems/laptops.
Build quality
It's ok. Overall, I feel the system is fairly sturdy and well-built. It doesn't express any strange creaking sounds when closed and transported under the arm. I wouldn't dare test pushing down on the center of the lid while it's closed though. While the upper lid is sturdy, it does compress a little when pressed upon. I really like how the rubber "stops" on the bezel are no longer little pieces of rubber stuck to the outside bezel with stickers. The stops I speak of keep the screen from touching all the way down on the keyboard when being closed. The stops are replaced with one large rubber seal around the outside of the lid (like a Macbook). The sides and bottom half of the laptop are all plastic, while the keyboard, palm area and top lid are brushed aluminum. while it's nothing incredibly special, it does look nice and professional.
Summary
If you found my review helpful, please give it a "thumbs up."
I would recommend this system to anyone looking for a well-rounded, up-gradable and powerful desktop replacement that is occasionally on the go with it. Overall, I'm impressed with the build of this system. However, I wouldn't consider any of Toshiba's other laptops unless I was in the market for a budget system and just trying to purchase one as cheap as possible. Originally I wanted a 15" Macbook pro w/retina display. But since Apple didn't update the processor to Haswell, I considered this system (P75-A7200). I'm glad I did and so is my wife and my bank account. I purchased this system at Best-Buy on sale for $729.00 marked down from $799.00. It's an awesome price if you are in the market for this type of system with the latest hardware.
The computer is lighter than I anticipated (remember, though, my reference point was an Alienware I'd bought three years ago). The screen far wider and nicer than I dared to predict. In short, it's been a wonderful surprise. My colleague that works in our IT department took one look at the price and circumstances-I bought with no shipping and no tax, and immediately offered to buy it off me. He was almost as excited for me to get it as I was to finally have my laptop.
Toshiba has a good reputation and so far it has lived up. I highly recommend. Get a 256 SSD drive for cheap and just slip her on in there and the computer boots in about 8 seconds. I put in the 8 gig of RAM from my previous computer and this computer is a solid piece of hardware. No complaints at all. Shipping was fine, and adequately protected. My seller had the computer on its way the day after my purchase. BUY IT.

I did about 2 weeks of research. I watched prices. I consulted with people that actually buy/sell computers. I am even personally coming off owning an Alienware and was wholly interested in buying another. My interests aren't so much gaming as they are simply to have a laptop that can replace a desktop and still be a smokin'-good computer in a year or two or three. To that end, I passed on numerous brands because of the lack or complications in expanding the RAM or to an SSD. The ONLY thing that might be considered a negative in this computer is the integrated graphics card, and since I've got a designated gaming desktop... why should I care? The computer is lighter than I anticipated (remember, though, my reference point was an Alienware I'd bought three years ago). Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200
Hardware is as advertised. This is a fairly powerful computer with lots of room for further expansion. Excellent screen. The Windows 8 is lousy but you have little choice here. The computer comes with many useless programs and a Norton trial that doesn't work because they don't supply a activation key.Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200
I really can't say enough great things about this Toshiba. The graphics are superb and it handles every hard task I send it's way. The way the HDMI port handles is great to. Love it.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200
My girlfriend bought this computer from Amazon just a few days ago. This computer was delivered faster than expected. Worked perfectly right out of the box. Very sturdy and beautifully designed. I checked other dealers and computer makers for comparative specs and no one could even come close for the price. Free shipping and no taxes, what else could I say. Quad Core 4th Generation with a true HD screen, Harman Karman speakers and HD Web Cam! Speaker sound is awesome and surprisingly loud for a laptop. Don't pass up on this deal! Acer 15.6" i5-2450M 2.50 GHz Notebook | AS5750-6867 Reviews
I bought a new computer thinking it wouldn't have any issues, but apparently acer has issues with windows 7 and there isn't a fix yet. Why would acer continue to put out a product knowing it still has problems. There support services said it is in the process of fixing it but doesn't have a timeframe, but they will email me. Not too impressed yet.I was a bit skeptic at first since I owned a Mac before this, but this computer is great (not to mention 1/3 the price of a Mac which is why I got it). Although not as fancy as a Mac, it is great for people who just want a basic computer. Works great.

Review of Acer Aspire AS7740-5691 Laptop PC - Intel Core i3-330M 2.13GHz
Cons:
-----
Acer has too low a LCD viewing angle on this one at least. Put on a black image full screen, and you see a "rainbow" on the screen -black is real black only on the rainbow and everywhere else it is gray. Tilt the screen a bit and red turns pale green. It does not both though under normal scenarios. I checked other laptops on the shop floor and they all have this effect more or less, usually much less though. It also seems that contrast-ratio of the Acer screen is very small.
Left and right clicks on the touch pad are too loud.
Pros/Others:
-----------
Great deal! No where else I find a laptop with 17.3" screen with 1600x900 resolution with Core i3 processor (instead of Dual Core or Core 2 Duo) and 4 GB RAM.
Processor speed, even though this is Core i3 and not Core i5 or i7, is just great. Windows experience index is 4.5 for Aero graphics but > 5 for everything else. It played Full HD AVCHD media full screen just fine with around 6% CPU load (even though this is integrated Intel graphics and not dedicated ATI or NVidia graphics card).
There were no dead pixels on the screen.
Touch-pad is multi-touch, which is really nice. This takes you more than half-way to having full touch-screen. I do not need touch-screen anymore given the cost premium!
It has glossy screen which is ideally not preferable but is in fashion these days. I do not like glossy screens as such but found this OK.
No flaws so far with anything. Keyboard keys are good as well. Wireless worked fine. All 4 USB ports, HDMI port, headphones port, DVD drive, all are working fine. Webcam is good as well. Only the costliest Logitech webcams do better than this. Speakers are better than my old laptop.
Only remaining thing to test are wired ethernet connection, burning DVDs, and battery life.
For all the good things people say about Windows 7, it still has the same issues as Vista or XP. I was trying to unplug an SD card and it says "some process is using the file" (windows issue, never tells which process).
One last thing, I found out that Acer is owned by Sony :) I have always had nothing but great products from Sony, so this only adds to their great product line.
Acer has very good quality screens, and this one is good, except for the vertial viewing angle. When you open a laptop, you adjust the screen either towards you or away from you so that you get the best viewing experience. The problem with this laptop is that the design prevents the screen from being pushed back much beyond about 20 degrees or so. When I have the screen pushed back as far as it will go, the colors appear washed out, and there's a lot of "light pollution" at the bottom of the screen (meaning that towards the bottom of the screen, too much white light appears, and blacks appear gray or washed out.) I can easily correct this problem by putting an object below the bottom front of the laptop that will lift and rotate it back slightly. However, I don't want to have to do this everytime I use it, so I had to return it.
My current 4-year-old Acer laptop will open up completely to 180 degrees, providing a perfect viewing angle to any user, so I'm surprised that they would create a laptop that limits this important setting. I looked at some other brands of laptops yesterday, and they don't have this limitation. If I could have sat down at a desk with the laptop before buying it, I would have noticed this right away, but they are displayed on shelves that prevent you from really trying them out. Considering the $499 I paid for the unit, I would have given it a full 5-stars because of the cost-value. I would only buy this unit if you can sit down with it and see it in person. I wouldn't buy it online unless the seller has a good return policy.
The one con i think of it the lack of a dedicated graphics card. Intel integrated Graphics ruins this computer.
-----
Acer has too low a LCD viewing angle on this one at least.

I would recommend this for anyone. One last thing, I found out that Acer is owned by Sony :) I have always had nothing but great products from Sony, so this only adds to their great product line.

I've been waiting for months to get a good deal on a laptop, so when this one came up, I jumped. Nearly everything about this laptop is good. It has a big 17 inch screen, it's light, it has an HDMI port and a webcam. It runs cool, and it's quiet. Everything I wanted.Acer has very good quality screens, and this one is good, except for the vertial viewing angle. Cheap Acer Aspire AS5755-6699 15.6-Inch Laptop (Glossy Black)
I've only been using this laptop for a few days. But it's a winner. Great screen, speakers, keyboard, webcam, very easy to set up. Windows 7 is a snap to use. (I've been using Vista, before that XP Pro and XP.)The laptop comes with 4gb of ram. I ordered two 4gb. to increase the ram to 8gb. I found the upgrade here on Amazon for only $29. That's cheap enough. I would recommend Acer to anyone that wants a good computer that doesn't cost a lot of money.
I bought this as a cheap stop gap measure to get me by till I got a better laptop and never traded-up.
Buy This laptop.
As long as you set your expectations accordingly you'll be very happy with it. As stated, the screen isn't great, there's no backlit keyboard, and specs aren't blazing fast but that's not really something you can expect in a laptop under $500. What it does offer that a lot of others don't is USB 3.0 (most will have only 2.0), Intel Core i3 (most will have either Pentium D or AMD) or Intel WiDi. It's really impressive to find that in a laptop so cheap. To really improve the problem specs (screen namely, maybe hard drive speed/size) the laptop would likely have to cost double.
All in all, very pleased. Acer bloatware was minimal and easily removed too. I probably had it all cleaned off and installed with the software she'd need in under 2 hours.

After looking at laptops for several months I finally settled on this little beauty. This is my first laptop and I have fallen in love with it. I wanted a machine to use "Push 2 TV" with and kiss my cable bill goodbye and I did just that. Life is good! Caught this Acer on sale at Micro Center for $379 and I couldn't be happier. If you're thinking about this one, get it. You won't be sorry especially at $379.Best Deals for Acer Aspire AS5755-6699 15.6-Inch Laptop (Glossy Black)
I bought this laptop a year ago. My laptop died and I needed a new one quick. Money was tight and so I shopped around(big box stores, online, etc...) and I kept coming back to this one. I love this computer it exceeded my expectations. I waited a year to review because I feel this is the best way to measure how well an electronic device works. It's easy to write a good review 3 days after you bought something when it is still shiny new. This laptop took a beating and still runs prefect, not one issue. I use it for work and school everyday for at least three hours at a time. Acer makes a great product at a great price. Don't let the low price fool you this was well worth the $500. I ran ArcGIS 9.3 (full version)right out of the box no problem. I also used it for class on 3d game design and 3d online worlds, not one hiccup.I bought this as a cheap stop gap measure to get me by till I got a better laptop and never traded-up.
Buy This laptop.

Asus X501A-DH31-WT 15.6-Inch Laptop Reviews
I replaced my 5 year old Toshiba laptop with this ASUS and have been very impressed. I was just looking for a basic laptop for web browsing, email, Youtube, etc, and this fit the bill. It's slim and lightweight (at least compared to the other older laptops we have) and runs very cool. With the Intel i3 processor along with 4GB of RAM it's not cutting edge by any means, but as a basic laptop it's more than enough.
I've got an ASUS netbook that's a couple of years old and have had no issues at all with it, and hopefully the new laptop will fare as well. If you're looking for a good, basic laptop then put this on your list.
I just open and use couple hours....

Buy Acer Aspire Ultrabook 15.6" Touch Screen Laptop - Intel Core
I actually ended up purchasing mine from Best Buy because it was a little cheaper there. You immediately notice the speed of the quad core i5. They only clock this one at 1.8GHz but it performs much faster. To put it into perspective, my previous laptop was an AMD Sempron at 2.2GHz and this machine is much faster. The 6GB of memory really helps. I don't do a lot of gaming, but I do multitask all the time and the memory helps to keep the system from bogging down. The touchscreen is kind of cool although I'm not really sure I need it. A lot of people don't like Windows 8 and I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it or not, but that doesn't change the fact that this is still a very solid laptop for the money you pay. Another thing I noticed about this machine is that they did a good job with ventilation. I have had issues with overheating with past laptops and it seems like they setup their cooling very well here. If you're looking for a solid Ultrabook that won't hurt your wallet too much, I would highly recommend this unit.
Cons:
THE MOUSE PAD! Oh man, the mouse pad. Horrible. It doesn't actually have an indentation for the left and right click, it is underneath, so I when I went to click on something the courser would move because it thought my finger was moving.
It is SLOW! when I got it all up and running it was having a hard time loading the programs. It would take a good amount of time to just load Microsoft Word.
I didn't like the fact that I would have to hit the 'function' key and the up and down button for the volume control.
WINDOWS 8 IS HORRIBLE! I could have lived with the mouse pad and gotten more RAM for the computer, but I couldn't live with Windows 8.
Pros:
Touchscreen is a pretty cool feature to have when you want to play games.
The back-light on the keyboard is really helpful.
Sound is good, but ain't no beats by Dre.
Webcam is really clear.
Keys are nice and quiet, but spaced a little apart.
I am having this laptop delivered to me this week. Hopefully it works out better.

Lenovo Ideapad G555 0873-74U 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Reviews
First my cons:
1) Lower quality WiFi transceiver it seems
2) Impossible to type with jumping cursor until I disabled the touchpad
3) I could shave in the shiny reflective screen
4) The battery drains faster than the advertising
5) I'll add the bloatware myself thanks if I think I need it
1) I experienced some dropped connections that now apppear to be isolated to the extranet WiFi at work though both my Lenovo T60 and an Asus eeePC 901 I keep at work have never dropped a WiFi connection. The G555 did so repeatedly not keeping the connection for more than a few mins at times. I would have to disconnect and connect to regain my connection. At home the WiFi did not get dropped across the house but the performance was half to my Asus eeePC 1000H that I keep at home. So sitting next to the router the G555 could achieve only a 75Mb/s connection compared to 150Mb/s for my 1000H. Across the house the G555 drops down to 32Mb/s less than half again of the 1000H. I attribute this to seeing for the first time a Broadcom transceiver vs Atheros or Ralink. I noticed on the Lenovo support website for the G555 that the lastest drivers are from Atheros. Does this mean that Lenovo has done a WiFi switcheroo in production and I'm just one of the unfortunates not to receive version 2 of the G555. Why are the latest two drivers from Atheros?
I fixed 2) by buying a mouse and disabling the touchpad, I've never had to disable a touchpad on many a laptop before. There is no sensitivity setting for the touchpad available.
3) The screen is very reflective making it harder to see in a bright room or with a window behind me. I thought reflective screens like this disappeared a decade ago, how much could it possibly cost today to add a non-reflective screen.
4) The battery is advertised as 4 hours but I got low power warnings after 2.5hrs on Windows 7 Power Balanced setting. This of course was a little expected due to higher performance CPU and GPU than my ASUS machines.
5) Finally as mentioned in many reviews there is a silly amount of bloatware installed, I removed 90% of it. The software installs are located on the D: drive.
Other than the above the rest is pretty good for the price. It feels pretty solid, its fast. The screen is nice and bright (if only they had made it non-reflective). The camera seems to work fine, all the basic features are there that I enjoy on my ASUS eeePC machines. My mum will be happy (she did not know a mouse could be used with a laptop). Hopefully Lenovo can fix a few of those issues I mention for future owners.
:)
I disabled the touchpad, so it's not because I'm leaning on it accidentally. Unless you type verrrrrry slowly, one finger at a time, the text jumps around. Someone said that's what you can expect with cheap laptops.
If my desktop hadn't just died, I would return this Lenovo.

Sony VAIO VGN-Z750D/B 13.1-Inch Laptop - Black Review
I considered many PC options, Toshiba, MAC, Samsung, Acer, Dell and Sony. At the end of the day, the Toshiba, while very dependable and my current workhorse of 4 years, Toshiba has annoying function popups, the unit latch is broken and the power button will not turn off unless I push down with substantial force. The Macs, too pricey and didn't offer the features I needed in business. Acer, did not care for the layout although the features were impressive. Samsung, I really wanted the X360P but the price was never be lowered over 6 months. Dell, had that experience once before, Support was comical and frustrating. So, Sony it was. A little pricey but with the size, power and features I needed in my work, it was my choice. I'm in the process of removing many of the annoying Sony software so that I can work without sales pitches and quirky helful notes.
The lightweight laptop, is easily portable an ideal for travelling. i had purchased the item and shipped to my cousin in USA, he then posted it back to me to Maldives. There was only one issue with the power cable that didnt support the power plug ins available here in maldives, so i bought a three-pin to support the power plug...
and now its in perfect condition....Thanks to sony, and thanks to Amazon.

Alienware M18x R2 AM18XR2-7037BK 18.4-Inch Laptop (Space Black Reviews
If you are in the market for a powerful, jaw-dropping beast of a laptop, you've found it. Keep in mind that this review is about this laptop with this exact configuration as other configurations may differ.
In The Box:
* 9.25"(D) x 11.25"(W) Alienware (Hard) Mouse Pad with Alienware Logo.
* A packet with your Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Information. Alienware Product Information and a Alienware M18x R2 Resource DVD.
* A box with the Power Brick (Adapter) and cord.
* 1 Alienware M18x R2 Laptop inside a nice felt case with Alienware Logo. The laptop measures 17"(W) x 11.5"(D) x 2"(H)
This is not your average laptop, the description states that it is 17 pounds, maybe that is the total shipping weight because the actual item weight is 13.6 pounds in this configuration (so says my digital scale).
The overall length of the power cord is 150 inches (12.5 Feet) which is pretty long, the power brick is pretty big but not a problem. Battery life is yet to be determined but the manufacturer states 4 hours plus.
The fit and finish of this laptop is great, the Black Anodized Aluminium is beautiful, the palm rest has a nice felt-like feel to it. Under heavy use the left side tends to get a little warm as this is where the hard-drive is located.
The keyboard is a pleasure to type on and is fully colour customizable by the user, there is slight flex to the keys under heavy pressure but nothing to stress about, certainly not a deal breaker.
This laptop has so many great things going for it that its hard to find a con.
This review will be updated soon.
But the specs I'd recommend are;
*765m
*8GB RAM or more
*1TB Hard Drive or more, you will go through 500GB fast if you have a lot of PC games
* 1 Alienware M18x R2 Laptop inside a nice felt case with Alienware Logo. The laptop measures 17"(W) x 11.5"(D) x 2"(H)

This is a decent gaming laptop. It is defiantly not mobile. This is so overpriced it's not even funny. The GPU is a 660m which isn't the best for high end gaming. I would look for a laptop with a 765m or higher, but this is my personal opinion. The good thing about this laptop is it can hold 2 hard drives. I forgot about this until my hard drive crashed and needed replaced. The hard drive crashing wasn't Alienware's fault. It was a virus that even most Tech people have never seen. So I had to get a new hard drive, so I went to Best Buy Geek Squad and they called me back after dropping it off asking if I wanted to add the other hard drive in or replace it.But the specs I'd recommend are;

MSI Computer Corp. Notebook Computer GE70 0ND-033US;9S7-175611-033 Review
I have had my MSI GE70 ND-033US for two days. I find the laptop to be as advertised. The graphics is very high quality and the laptop is extremely fast. The no glare display is outstanding. It plays Battlefield 3 in the extreme graphics mode. The computer has a lot of capability for the price. I am happy with all aspects of the laptop.
Screen: the resolution is 1920x1080 and man, is it beautiful. it's a matte display, so be prepared for dirty whites, but the viewing angles are more than worth it.
Keyboard: it's a steelseries keyboard, which is very reliable. only gripe with the keyboard is properly depressing the keys, but that's "user error"
Graphics: it's an nVidia GTX660m which is more than enough to run Battlefield, as well as pretty much any game you want to throw at it. Be advised, games such as Metro 2033 do require tweaking of some settings, so i you want everything truly maxed out for every current game this is NOT the laptop for you.
Audio: loud. clear. I can understand what people are saying in movies 30 feet away. that's impressive, especially coming from a Toshiba laptop
Processor: Intel i7 3rd gen Ivy Bridge proc great for processor-hungry games
Memory: 8GB RAM, I have had up to 50 combined tabs on chrome running and I haven't noticed a slowing down. this is before I dropped my SSD and mSATA in here
Hard Drive: ships with a 750GB 7200rpm HDD, which is ok, but I ended up upgrading with a Mushkin mSATA and an OCZ 240GB 2.5" SSD. I moved the hard drive to where my DVD drive is using the NEW SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM, giving me 360GB of SSD and 750GB of HDD.
DVD Drive: felt plasticky. took it out in favor of using it as a hard drive space
Hot Keys: there's a fan that manually cranks the fans up, doesn't get too loud, not noticeable during movie watching, can't hear it at all with headphones during gaming. The turbo button is automatically it up when a process requires more juice than the integrated graphics can handle.
Body: it's glossy, so be prepared for fingerprints galore. I knew this going into it, so I'm not too upset. if fingerprints drive you nuts, please DO NOT buy this laptop
Ports: 2xUSB 3.0, 2xUSB2.0 1xHDMI, 1xVGA, 1x Ethernet port
Webcam & Mic: eh, I'm personally going to get a better one, works fine in a pinch
Other Thoughts: I wish it shipped with an SSD stock, but that's easily fixed. I wish it had a BluRay, but then again I took the ODD out, so it does me no good wishing for this.
***UPDATE 26/12/2012***
Laptop still works great. I have an mSATA as my OS drive, an SSD for all my games, and I will soon be using another SSD for my movies, music, and other programs. With the all SSD set-up, it does run a bit cooler.
Games: it can run Battlefield 3, but not at max settings. The GPU does crank up the heat when playing graphics-heavy games, so a quality notebook cooler might not be a bad investment. This computer can run Far Cry 3 and Skyrim, but again, not at the highest settings. If you really want to game at max, invest in a laptop with dual SLI/XFire or get a desktop with a GTX 680. If you want to game on the go, this is fine.
Keyboard: for those asking, it is NOT backlit, that would be the GT series
Mouse: I went and got a CoolerMaster Storm Spawn mouse and it satisfies my needs for gaming.
Wireless: sadly, this is not a wifi card that supports dual band, but such cards can be found online, and the replacement of the card seems to be quick.
I highly recommend that people get an mSATA or an SSD for their boot drive and potentially as a storage drive, as applications load much faster; my boot time from hitting the power button to fully loading Facebook is 24 seconds. Still a 5 star product for its class
Design is beautiful... good for a gamer but at the same time not super nerdy.. more just clean and stylish.
Very high end machine and I definitely recommend it.
So, since it's been over 30 days, I can't return anymore to Amazon. I did register this laptop to MSi and was able to post this issue through their tech support. I have warranty until 9/14/2014, so hopefully MSi will be able to help us out on this one. I have a feeling that there's some hardware problem with the laptop. Will have to wait how this goes.
Good thing though that we still have our old laptop that my daughter can still use but that's not a gaming laptop. That's a Toshiba laptop which is over a year old already and no problems whatsoever.
But still, having spent about $1,200 laptop and barely 2 months old and this. I'm very disappointed.
We'll see how MSi's customer service will fair though. Hoping for the best on this. At this time, I cannot this MSi laptop anymore.
The RAM is fast, but I am thinking that an upgrade is in order. Video memory is largely taken from the system memory and CAD is a hog.
CPU is GREAT! It automatically overclocks if necessary, but 9 times out of 10 it won't be necessary. The 2.3 GHz third gen i7 in this is very pwoerful and I rarely see the overclocking engage. However, when the computer is starting up and sometimes when it logs in it overclocks to speed up the boot time.
USB 3.0 on the computer is incredibly faster than it's USB 2.0 counterpart.
The high speed fan button makes me feel better if I am running Graphics intensive stuff or trying to open 20 PDFs while at the same time exporting HD video. It's also a quiet computer without the super fan option engaged.
My only issue has been that it got a Blue Screen of Death, but that was due to a faulty SD card I had in the slot and after a hard reset I was back up and running.
The screen is huge and the computer does have quite a bit of weight to it, so I suggest getting a backpack or a shoulder bag because just a neoprene sleeve is cumbersome.
Definitely worth the price and even upgrading the RAM will be an easy feat as it supports 16GB.

I've recently begun to renew my interest in PC gaming, yet I did not want to invest $2500 in my dream laptop/desktop, wanting something that could be functional for both work and play. Beautiful laptop, especially for the price. I've had an MSI before and I noticed some improvements on this one. The first thing is the screen is non-reflective (like really) which is great. This is also a lot thinner and lighter than the other gaming laptops I've had.. a lot more mobile which is what I was after. Still not a lot of battery life, though better then the hardcore gaming laptops (a bit under 2 hours it seems to be.. though it has a bunch of battery saving eco modes which I'm not bothering with at the moment that should improve it I imagine.Design is beautiful... good for a gamer but at the same time not super nerdy.. more just clean and stylish.

It's been barely 2 months since I got this gaming laptop for my daughter. This laptop has been wonderful. It's very fast and it plays all the steam games very nicely. However, it started to do random reboots about a month ago. Ignored those reboots for a little while since it would come back normally. However, just now, the laptop will never boot back to Windows anymore. It always go to Blue Screen with some random errors. I even tried to do Safe Mode. It was able to boot at Safe Mode and was able to backup my daughter's MineCraft Data and some of her flip cam videos before it would crash to Blue Screen even in Safe Mode. So, since it's been over 30 days, I can't return anymore to Amazon. I bought this laptop as an IT guy looking for an inexpensive and powerful computer for running AutoCAD, editing video, and running Windows based Pro-Audio design tools like Harman System Architect. The RAM is fast, but I am thinking that an upgrade is in order.
