This laptop should have been called the $%^#storm Series G62. Specifically I do not like:

* The mousepad buttons are basically a seesaw with a center fulcrum. The only place where the action feels natural is on the extreme end of the bar.

* I hate HATE the keyboard layout. HP put all of these dedicated hardware buttons along the left side, so I am constantly launching the Calculator when I'm intending to hit Ctrl.

* The normal action of the Fn key bar is for Special Functions, not the Fn series. One has the toggle the Fn action to keep from sleeping the computer if one intends to use F4, for example.

* The cable is about a foot shorter than the one that came with the HP laptop I got the year before.

* One year out, the battery is dead.

* This is the last laptop I will buy that doesn't have gigabit ethernet.

The screen is nice, the speed is fine, the Wifi works fine, and it is a GREAT light weight, but the problems above are not good and make me seriously worried about buying another HP laptop again.

It is worth having this beautiful laptop. I am a Writer and Published Author of two books "Speechless Thunder" and "It Looked Like Earth" plus I have published one song in Nashville, TN called "It Is Me Or Superman" and they are working on a Record now. soon to be out for sale.

Anyways, where I am going with this and with my little background which I use my computers every day for writing. This computer is good for entertainmet and is great for writing your books and homework for school, reading e-mails, watching a movie, and on top of all of that, for those of you that did not like the smudges that was created on the dv7 series of laptops, this one is less prone to that. Though I still keep my dv7 series :) both of them are my great working tools. Plus I have another one which is dv7 bought it for my parents. All of my three computers which are HP are great and I love HP. So, don't hasitate to buy this one G62-225NR Notebook. And with its size of 15.6" you can carry it anywhere, for those that love smaller computers. But you can also, get the bigger variation which does have 500GB hard drive and 4gb Memory Ram. But for the memory on this beautiful little one is 3GB, and you get 350GB spacious Hard drive. And give or take it is budget and energy saver. For those that don't need alot of Hard drive it is great. And on your pocket wallet, you don't have to pay extra 500 dollars for the extra drive and +1gb memory. Though for the memory you can upgrade and so you can the harddrive anytime. It is also pretty fast and I love it!!!

So, buy it and you won't regret it. Plus School is beginning and many students would love to own one and parents would be thrilled to get them this, and as I said, it is perfect on the pocket book :)

Also, never forget, to keep your computers clean and you can use for screen and keyboard "Endust for Electronics Screen Cleaner"

It does the Job marvioulasley

and excellent!!!

I forgot to mention, it does have a built in camera!!! For those that are wondering. There is one that is simillar sold in Walmart that does not have.

This laptop seems to be working wonderfully so far. It's screen is crystal clear, with a 1080p display. The processor is nice, too, running on a 3rd generation i7 Intel processing chip. I really love the way the keyboard is laid out as well. Can't complain much about this product, except that it lacks some inputs and ports that could've been convenient. However, I don't think that this is a major flaw of the device, as one could simply purchase a USB Hub for a cheap price. Also, the reviewers complained that the laptop is flawed because it lacks touchscreen capabilities. I don't really find this to be too big of an issue, though.

Pros:

1080p IPS Screen

SSD is FAST! 500~ MB/s read, 450~ MB/s write in my tests

Boots in under 8 seconds, shutdown in around 3

Feels very solid built, no cheap plastic feel

SecureBoot can be disabled!!!

Almost 0 bloatware installed from the factory

Cons:

Only con is minimal, and is the trackpad and how I use it. The palm rest detection setting made it so it would sometimes not register my clicks, but after shutting that off, the thing works fine!

Overall this is one of the nicest laptops I have ever owned, and would easily recommend it to anyone looking for a ultra-powerful ultrabook. This thing is light, looks sexy, feels very well built, and is extremely fast!

It's pretty, perfect size, and have enough memory for use it at home, or study. The weight is a little bit heavy, if you compare it with the new slim and light notebook and laptops... but if you don't need to use it for travel, or business, or to carry anywhere, it's perfect.

Owned this about year and a half. Just now was advised that the hard drive is ok but the motherboard is fried because the cord connection is a weak spot and if used or moved frequently it destroys the motherboard. Just be advised. Its apparently an HP problem on other computers also. Get the Pro series which has the connections in the back of the computer.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I recently got this Sony Vaio ultrabook and thought in reviewing it I would compare some of is attributes to my Lenovo Yoga 13 since a lot of people will be weighing the plusses and minuses of these two notebooks when making their purchasing decision.

First, I found the Sony computer a joy to use, very responsive and easy to carry.

The Sony weighs 37.7 oz, while the Lenovo weighs in at 53.6 oz.

Although both computers have 13 inch screens (13.3 inches for the Sony), the footprint of the Sony notebook is actually smaller. It is about 1/2 inches smaller in width and length. (Keep in mind that I'm talking about the actual external dimensions of the notebook...not the screen size.).

My Sony has 128 GB Solid State Drive, while my Lenovo has 256 GB SSD. You can get the Sony with 256 GB as well if you choose. If you get the 128 GB keep in mind that you'll have 71.8 GB left over on the C drive when you get the computer. After you load Microsoft Office and do all the updates, you'll have about 66.9 GB free on C drive. But you have 2 USB 3.0 slots and an SD slot on the right side of the computer if you need additional hard disk space for photographs, videos and music.

I prefer the keyboard on the Lenovo, as I find the Sony has less feel, and is a bit slippery. But the Sony has a nice lighting if you are going to use it in a poorly lit area. Lenovo does not have a lit up keyboard.

The Windows Experience score on the Sony is 6.2, while the Lenovo is 4.8. But in real life, I didn't find any appreciable speed difference when using the computers. Both are able to reboot Windows 8 in about 20-24 seconds. The Sony had a 4 second edge in this regard.

Both screens have very nice color rendition and text depiction. The Sony screen is much more limited in how you view it. It tilts about 5 degrees back from straight up. That should work for most people, but I found it a bit limiting. My preference is if it could tilt a bit further back for more comfortable viewing. The Lenovo Yoga will flip over completely and operate as a tablet, or tilt in a manner where the screen is propped up and the keyboard faces down, or just simply tilt back to any viewing angle you wish. In this regard, the Lenovo is much more versatile...which is where it gets its "Yoga" name.

The touchscreen on both computers worked very well. But keep in mind that some people, including me have reported issues with the Lenovo touchscreen. I had two separate Lenovo Yogas. In one the touchscreen worked perfectly (I kept that one). The second had an erratic, sometimes nonfunctioning touch screen that made the computer unusable. Others have reported similar issues with the Lenovo Yoga.

The trackball is nicer on the Lenovo. It glides much more smoothly than the Sony, and has a better/larger area to click or right click the pad. The Sony trackpad functions decently enough. But it feels rougher.

I removed the Kaspersky internet security that comes with the Sony, because the updates are incredibly slow...watching a snail crawl across a football field would be faster. This is not a Sony issue, so don't let it detract you from the Sony at all. I noticed this issue with Kaspersky software I bought two years ago, and was hoping they remedied the problem. They haven't. Instead I use Windows Defender that comes with the computer.

A couple of issues with the Sony. The screen sometimes flickers or dims momentarily when you put your hand toward the screen in the center of the computer, or when you touch a link or menu choice. Not sure why this happens. You can certainly live with this, as it is quite momentary. But it is annoying.

Second issue is that some people have reported they find the fan to be noisy. Normally I don't hear it at all. But once in a while it sounds like the background sound of waves crashing at the beach. Not bad...not an issue for me. Maybe an issue for others.

I intend to make this a rolling review, adding more feedback the more I use the computer in the next few months.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I am a Mac user, let's get that out right up front. I switched to Macs over four years ago, but Windows is an ever-present specter even for hard-core Mac users, I'd guess. I'm not above using a Windows machine as long as it's top-notch, and thankfully, this Sony Vaio lives up to its "Pro" billing. It might not be quite as impressive to behold as a Macbook Air, but it's pretty nice indeed.

First impressions are everything and my first impression was of how light it was, hefting it out of the box with one hand so quickly that I almost felt like I was going to throw it. It was so light that I was certain the battery couldn't have been installed... but it was. It's that light. I won't say that it makes my four year old 13" Macbook Pro feel like it needs to go on a diet, but it's about half the weight. Considering the Vaio is largely made of carbon fiber, it makes sense. The outer shell is a very thin brushed aluminum that adds a big touch of class. Again, this isn't quite up to the standards of the Macbook line there are hints of plastic all over, and an alarming tendency to flex when picked up in certain ways (this, I read on tech sites, is due to the "give" in carbon fiber, not an inherent flaw.) For someone used to the rock-solid bodies of Apple devices, it doesn't instill much confidence, and reminds me of lower-quality laptops that creak and groan as you move them. The Vaio may flex a bit, but it's completely free of any bad tendencies to this effect, and I pray it stays this way. It's such a nice machine that I've already grown attached to it.

The Vaio Pro is fast. FAST. So fast I had to shut it down and restart it to show my wife how impressively fast it was able to cycle itself. In barely the time of a commercial it was able to shut down and restart back to the log in screen. Extremely impressive. Thank the 128gb SSD on board for this incredible performance. The only downside to this drive that I could see is that Windows 8 and various apps that came installed from Sony already ate into nearly half the available space. You'll want to have external drives or cloud space handy for files; this computer is meant only to handle small files or to be a place to work on larger materials that later get moved somewhere else.

It has a fantastic keyboard quick and light, requiring little action to operate but won't result in false keypresses, either. The keys are slightly springier and lighter than the Mac keyboard, making for very fast typing. They're also backlit when plugged in, they'll stay lit, when unplugged, they'll be lit when lighting conditions call for it. One nitpick that I've seen others making and I'll make it too: having to use the function key to change various function-row keys is annoying.

Once I'd downloaded and installed what felt like a barrage of updates from Sony and Microsoft during the first couple of days, I was truly able to check out the Vaio's battery. And it's as impressive as everything else. In a completely informal test (because I didn't know if I'd get even more updates and need to plug in for power) I can safely say that it easily ran for 6-7 hours without a charge, and perhaps longer.

The touchscreen is very responsive, no different than using my iPhone or iPad. We'll get to more about this in a moment.

A couple of downsides: the bottom of this laptop gets hot, really hot. The Vaio's design angles the lid so that it lifts the bottom off surface to circulate some air, but when it's resting on your legs, you'll feel that heat very quickly. Then the fan kicks in and it's not something you won't notice. Imagine the sound of someone using a blow dryer in the back of the house. It's not obnoxious, but it's noticeable.

I'm not a big fan of the trackpad so far. I love my Macbook's slick glass trackpad. It's extremely responsive. I know when I gesture on it, it will do what I expect. Not so with the Sony trackpad, which frequently ignores motions made on it. Windows 8 has a number of specific gestures and I often have to repeat them to cause the computer to react. Most infuriating so far is unreliable scrolling. The two-finger motion sometimes refuses to work. And then, inexplicably, it works... for a time. And then it doesn't. And then it does, but maybe it selects half of what you just two-finger scrolled over. It can be maddening. I don't know if this is a driver problem, or what, but it needs to be fixed.

I can't talk about this laptop without discussing the elephant in the room: Windows 8. I am completely new to this all-new OS. So new, in fact, that I've basically ignored all news about it and only knew the basics about the strange, two-faced nature it had. It seemed like this might be an interesting venture I like challenges. I jumped in head first here, let me tell you.

For starters, there's very little in the way of help provided to new users. I know my way around Windows XP and, to an extent, 7. Dropping into Windows 8, however, was like being dropped into a Bizarro World version of Windows. I was prepared and yet really didn't appreciate what might be coming. And Sony/Microsoft really don't prepare users there's very little help to get you going. Sure, there are a couple little pointers and a small "Getting Started" guide for the laptop itself, but nothing about preparing for life with Windows 8. I'm really rather stunned. My first evening with the Vaio was mostly a night spent searching how to do pretty simple stuff. Where's the control panel? I searched Explorer and found it. Little did I realize that Sony doesn't bother to tell you that it's purposely hidden, and they've provided their own Vaio-approved portal into the control panel with their own customized settings. You're just left to stumble onto these things. This is a tactic Apple has used well, the joy of discovering, but it's not a joy here because I don't find as much making the sense that things make on Apple's OSs.

Windows 8 feels as if you are "strongly encouraged" to use the touchscreen rather than a mouse. I find myself reaching for the screen and doing what I normally would with a mouth simply because it works better. Some buttons are too small to touch so I have to go back to the touchpad, but the machine feels more responsive and sensible when used mostly touchscreen. I wish the screen tilted further back for this, as it doesn't lean very far and sometimes makes this usage feel a little awkward.

That said, I'm not discounting Windows 8 entirely. I think they're onto something that could be really solid once the kinks are worked out. Windows 8.1 is coming soon, so I'm hopeful that this takes care of some of these issues.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program There are a LOT of things to love about this laptop. The most immediate and obvious thing is the weight! This laptop is SO LIGHT.

Pros:

Super light

Great keyboard

Awesome trackpad

Nice monitor

3 USB's 2 in device, and one in AC adapter for charging of devices

Touchscreen is the only way to go with Windows 8

Cons:

PRICE

Heats up quickly, fan runs often

Hard drive

Even though there are more pros than cons, the cons are more important. This laptop is 105GB, it comes with 65GB available. So either this can't be your primary laptop or you need to add an external hard drive which adds both cost and weight.

The heating issue is really annoying. I've checked the settings, and called Sony to confirm all is as it should be. If you are watching a TV program or playing a game, after about 10 minutes the computer starts to heat up and the fan kicks in, and runs until you are done with that activity. And if it's literally on your lap, it's hot.

For the money, I just can't see choosing this as your only laptop. It's great for travel and light usage, but I don't believe much beyond that.

Edited to add: I don't use this laptop every day, and for some reason, every time I go to use it I have problems with the wireless, and I have to run the troubleshooter. It works fine once that's done, but it's a step I wish I didn't have to take every time.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO Pro SVP1321DCXS 13.3-Inch Core i7 Touchscreen Ultrabook

Received the product a week ago, and it's still going strong. I previously had a Samsung series 9, and it had served me extremely well for the past year until it passed away due to some unknown reasons. With windows 8.1 coming out, I figured out rather than troubling me myself to try to repair my laptop, I might as well buy a touch screen, Haswell laptop. Boy, did it not disappoint. Even without the fixes from Windows 8.1, with the touch screen I have become ever more productive in this laptop. Sure, ignoring the touch screen is an option, but with the touch screen I can multitask so fast that I stopped doing productive work from my more powerful desktop. I'm not saying this product isn't powerful at all for multitasking and productive work since it packs a beefy i7-4500U and 8 GB of RAM. One interesting thing is that the RAM's clock is shown as 20,307 Mhz (just a peculiar discovery). After installing all the updates form Sony Vaio care (which I don't recommend to uninstall), all the old problems such as sketchy wifi and fans blaring are gone. Wireless is extremely stable, wide in range and fast and the fan only spins up when streaming 4K and 1080P videos. Sure, I wish the fan noise can be more subtle, but it is nothing one should be worried about in the classroom or library since it never even grunts a noise when I'm there. I do not game on this laptop but I figure y'all can find adequate reviews online. The screen is also an absolute joy to watch videos on, no matter streaming or through a DVD. The color gamut is about 22 percent larger than my series 9 and the blacks are way darker too. The keyboard is way better than my series 9 in terms of the feel though the touchpad is somehow lacking due to the fact that it isn't glass. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Btw, silver, though not as professional looking as black, gives it a premium feel with the keyboard backlight on.

This is not a comprehensive review, as I'm not a tech expert. There are other reviews that cover the technical pros and cons of this computer very well. I just wanted to add a few things...

1) I've had this computer for about 3 weeks and I think the software updates have resolved the often reported wireless internet connectivity issues, as I haven't had many problems with it.

2) This computer scratches very easily. I received it in the mail one day prior to receiving my protective sleeve. It got multiple scratches on it the first day from being placed in my tote bag with my school books. I'm currently shopping for a skin to cover up the ugly scratches.

3) Lastly... I'm amazed at how light it is and how fast it starts up!

I bought this computer almost a year ago and I did not have one problem with it (except its slow because of my weak internet). There are also some awesome features like the biometric finger scanner which is really easy to setup if you are computer inclined, if not than you can find a tutorial on the web somewhere but it does require that you download a program which I have tested and it is safe and works really good. The touch screen volume control gets laggy sometimes. Another thing that is good about this computer is that it is INDESTRUCTIBLE. I have dropped it, thrown it on my bed every night and spilled drinks on it multiple times. My online chief complaint is that I have an issue with charging it, the charger is kind of funky and you have to either hold it or not move the computer itself. It also doesn't hold a charge TOO well but if you are just using it for home than keep the charger near. And a little minor thing is that it doesn't come with a lot of stock programs like solitaire, etc. Which means there is no security system so you can either buy norton or avg or just use the trials which is what I do. Bottom line is that this computer is GREAT. The charger came brand new and the computer said that there was a few minor cosmetic damages but there is nothing bad that I have seen.

I bought my laptop in late April or early May of 2011 on EBay (brandnew). As advertised, it boots up in seconds. The picture is crisp clear. The numeric keyboard is a plus. But from the very start I had problem with power button. Sometimes it would start and shut down within a second. As time passed it happened more frequently and then it would happen three times before I could get it started. I called and sent it to Samsung (they provided UPS label); they returned it stating it had been fixed. It was not. I sent it back again asking for a different laptop with similar specifications. They refused to replace it; but, they fixed it. Within a few months the problem reappeared. Of course, each time I had to move all the data to an external disc and remove all my passwords and reconfigure it upon return. I have a washer/dryer from Samsung and the dryer has the same problem. I am very disappointed. No more Samsung products for me.

This laptop worked perfectly for the first year I had it. After that, it started having a host of problems. It is unable to run games that it used to run perfectly. It randomly restarts. It will freeze up on certain web pages, without fail, and have to be manually turned off and on. It keeps overheating. AND it keeps shocking me, which I know is not good for the computer! Tried to talk with Samsung, but ran into a major problem...there isn't a serial number on the laptop! Of course, customer service doesn't believe me and is treating me like I'm an idiot, but I can clearly see where the serial number is supposed to be and isn't. They have promised to call me back in 2-5 business days several times, and weeks later I still have not heard back from them...will not be buying a samsung product again.

Looking back on my purchase I do not regret it. It is a powerful laptop with all the necessities and has two hard drives that amount to about 700gb of storage capacity. The camera is decent and the ram plus the video card are very useful. I loved it and the only complaint I have is that it cost a little too muvh for what it delivered. That is not to say it doesn't deliver.

This is my first review and I'm writing this because there is a lack of reviews out there and the last two comments on this seemed as if those buyers may have been expecting too much for an ultrabook of this price.

I love Amazon but bought this elsewhere online to avoid paying taxes since I live in WA.

I used to sell laptops and desktop etc. for an electronics retailer and now work in IT.

I have owned several laptops and netbooks within the last 6 years.

Decided on something like this because my Asus netbook which has served me well was on its last legs and there weren't any netbooks with processors that are powerful enough for my needs. I have an Asus 14" business laptop but I felt it was too heavy (about 6 lbs).

I went into this purchase with the idea of keeping costs down while not sacrificing too much in performance and weight and am content with my purchase.

The term Ultrabook tends to convey the idea of a super slim, sleek, lightweight laptop with a metallic enclosure.

Well, think of this ultrabook as a budget ultrabook because that's exactly what it is. After all look at the price!

BATTERY

Let me first say that pretty much all manufacturers exaggerate battery life so you won't get stated life in most cases.

Not until there is some kind of ISO standardized rating system like there is now for inkjet cartridge yields.

As far as battery life goes PCMAG and LAPTOPMAG tested and rated it at just over 5hrs which is what I was expecting.

Dell should have stated UP TO 7.X hours which is a mistake on their part. The key is the "UP TO" before the battery life rating indicating that it can go up to that amount but under most normal usage it's for the most part unlikely.

I have drained the battery three times under normal usage (browsing and or downloading/streaming data) and have gotten an average of about 5 hours. Which is a little less than what PCMAG and LAPTOPMAG got.

I did this without using Dell's power management software. Using Dell's power management software could yield better results but I have not tested yet.

Here's the good and bad points I have found so far.

PROS:

relatively light weight. Can be easily held with one hand while screen is flipped open.

nicely spaced out matte keys with slight grip to them.

maximum screen brightness is fine in well lit rooms.

Intel Core i5-3317u CPU view comparison chart at passmark.com. There are other brands with same CPU that benched more or less.

6GB RAM altough most users will be fine with 4GB.

Speakers are pretty loud for a unit of this size

Windows 7 (if you're not interested in Windows 8 "Metro" for non touch systems)

CONS:

no SSD but then again this is a budget model (models with SSD + HD can be found for around $80 more)

would like a removable battery but most ultrabooks don't have removable batteries since they are more like thin plates that are "layered" inside instead of those removable bar or block types.

old smart phone type port covers. Other than helping it look more streamlined and dust protection there is no real reason for this.

If you are resting this unit on a flat surface the port covers will open JUST ENOUGH to allow you to plug in but it will be tight. (reason for 1 star deduction)

heat is mainly in the area under the power button. It gets pretty warm so if you actually plan on using this on your lap please take note.

Del bloatware

Who would like the Dell 13z?

Someone who wants an affordable ultrabook with an i5 CPU for under $600.

Someone who doesn't place an emphasis on how attractive their laptop looks.

If an average of 4.5-5hr battery life is okay for you.

If you mainly use it on a tabletop or other flat surface.

Who might not like the Dell 13z?

Compared to other ultrabooks this just looks average and has no bling finishes and has a mostly if not wholly plastic enclosure. In other words this is not going to turn heads when you whip this out at the trendy coffee shop that you may frequent...seriously. The surface surrounding the keyboard looks like brushed dark bronze metal but is not.

I have noticed very slight keyboard flex but it has not affected my typing or comfort in any way. However, if you're like that other guy who mentioned it you may want to spend the extra $$$ and get a higher end ultrabook because I have not noticed it at all until I read his post and actually pressed hard on the keyboard to replicate his claim.

If used on your lap you will notice your left thigh getting a bit hot so you might need one of those lapdesks which doesn't help if the coffee shop scenario above applies to you.

Other models you may want to consider:

Toshiba Portégé R835-P94 13.3-Inch Laptop (Magnesium Blue)

lighter weight, larger HD, faster CPU, longer battery life, though about 1/3 thicker

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 43752CU 13.3-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Gray)

less battery life, CPU benchmarks faster, HD webcam, SSD drive, very little bloatware.

*UPDATE 10/24/12*

Price is now back up to $749 (was at $579 at the time of writing original review)

at this higher price this is definitely not a as good a deal as the other two models listed in this review.

lowering star value from 4 to 3 since price has gone up almost $200 and is same price as the newer model with more memory?

With a 3rd Gen Core i5 and 6 GB of RAM, this laptop is good buy from every angle.

Light, thin and very capable. Wouldn't go any bigger after trying a 13 in laptop like this one.

I have always believed 13 is the magic screen size number and this model is not exception.

Upgrade with an SSD and you have a very capable Ultrabook for a lot less money.

Best Deals for Dell Inspiron i13z-7729sLV 13-Inch Laptop (Silver)

The Dell Inspiron i13z-7729sLV 13-Inch Laptop works perfectly. I am a regular user (work in th university in the Economy department) only use it for working (Office, statistics programs), for mail/skype/facebook, searching stuff on the web and watching movies. I bring it constantly with me, and use it everyday. I installed windows 8 and it runs smoothly in the laptop.

I do not use it for playing games or with complicated design programs.

The computer feels very fast, is very light (1.8 kg aprox), the battery runs for long time (6 hours when it is fully charged), and the view in the monitor is very clear.

I had a problem with the keyboard (a couple of keys did not function properly), but this is more a positive issue for the product more than a negative: I called to Dell support service from Argentina, and they had a post-sale service shop in my town (Tandil, a medium-smal city in Argentina). They asked for a new keyboard to the US and in less than a month the problem was solved (that seems preety fast, considering the import restriction policy of our country).

Anyways, I also choosed Dell since its fame of resistant to hard work and constant transport, but I can not give faith of this, since I only started using it two months ago.

Hope this can be useful, sorry for my poor english.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron i13z-7729sLV 13-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Here comes my review.

I bought this laptop for 3 reasons.

1. Thin and lightweight

2. Cost effective

3. Battery life (After seeing 7 HOURS description in the product details I decided to buy this without second thought)

Pros:

Core i5, 6gig RAM, nearly 2GB graphics. Nothing more!

Cons:

Its thin, but its not too light. Though the cost is not pretty high, but for sure its not worth for money. I have used this for about 2 weeks now.

Coming to the biggest reason and biggest worry is battery life. As described and promised in the product description, the battery never gave backup of 7 hours.. Oh!! Forget it, not even 3 hours. I didn't play HD games, didn't watch HD movies, didn't run any NASA or Man-on-Mars projects too, but still, the battery drained out in less than 3 hours, all I did is just usual surfing and document edit.

I am not in US now, hence cant even think of returning this product. I am screwed, others be on your alert.

I suggest to pour another 200 bucks and go for Samsung Ultrabook, I am sure you will not repent your decision.

I will post more of my findings soon, but sure this is not worth buying.

On paper, this should be a five star laptop par excellence. Unfortunately, it is not.

Pros:

Powerful processor

8 GB memory (even though it says 4; it actually came with 8)

750GB hard drive

Solid construction

eSATAp/USB 2.0 port

HDMI port

4 USB ports

Nice touchpad

Built in system image backup/restore software (limited, but useful nonetheless)

Cons:

THE WORST keyboard layout of any laptop I've ever used!! For some unknown reason, the left shift key is HALF NORMAL SIZE. And RIGHT NEXT TO IT is the forward slash key. EVERY TIME I went to hit the left shift key I ended up hitting the forward slash key. It's insane. Really. I absolutely HATE this keyboard. So much so, that I replaced it with a keyboard specifically made for the V570 and sold here on Amazon. (Replace with LotFancy New Black keyboard for IBM LENOVO Z570 V570 B570 B570A B570G B575 V570C Y570 Series 25200308 25-200308 MP-10A33US-686A MP-0A T4TQ-US MP-10A3 25013385 25-013385 MP-10A33US-6861 Laptop / Notebook US Layout (Note: Two kinds keyboard for Y570...)) A.S.A.P.)

VERY POOR TRACK RECORD of motherboard failure (4 months or less down the road the laptop won't power on because the motherboard has died)

VERY POOR HARD DRIVE PARTITIONING (i.e. Lenovo hogs FOUR PARTITIONS with their proprietary stuff, making it impossible to create other partitions for data, etc, unless you really know what you're doing. Fortunately, one of the 4 partitions is an extended partition, not a primary partition, and, with the proper partitioning software (you can't use Windows to do it) you can shrink the big "C" drive, and move that space into the UNNAMED/UNLETTERED extended partition that houses the proprietary Lenovo "D" Drive (But DON'T touch the D drive itself, it will mess up some of the proprietary Lenovo programs; just add the unallocated space created by shrinking the "C" drive to the extended partition that houses the "D" drive.) Then once you've done that, you can create as many logical drives in the extended partition as you want. It took me over a year to figure that little trick out (I have another V570 that I purchased directly from Lenovo, and never did figure it out in time. I basically wiped out everything that came on the laptop, loaded Windows 7 Professional 32 bit, then had to add back all the Lenovo drivers to make everything work. It was a major hassle, but I was able to partition the one 750GB HDD exactly the way I wanted to.) And the Lenovo forums were NOT helpful, even though it is a relatively simple task once you know what to do. Other laptops don't hog so many partitions with proprietary stuff to begin with, so it's much simpler to create a data only partition and have a more manageable "C" drive partition.

NO USB 3.0 ports

A horrible "ONE YEAR WARRANTY" policy that shaves off MONTHS of that policy unless you buy directly from Lenovo. For instance, I bought this a month ago, in March, but the warranty expires in SEPTEMBER, NOT one year from the date I purchased it, as per Lenovo and their arrangement with their resellers. I think that stinks, and I've told them so.

You MUST use LENOVO batteries with this laptop. And THEY DON'T HAVE ANY FOR SALE NOW. And neither does anybody else. They are not really supporting this laptop very well. I was told by one of the sales reps to call the warranty people and order the batteries from them. After some reluctance, the warranty rep finally agreed to sell me two batteries -at $20 more than the sales site used to charge when the actually HAD the batteries to sell, but at least I have two more batteries than I had before.

Also, the first V570 I purchased from Amazon had 5 very visible dead pixels. I returned that and got another one -the last one they had here for sale on Amazon. That one had a dead Ethernet port. (I could connect via the wireless card, but not the wired Ethernet card.) I had to PAY $20 to ship the one month old laptop with the dead Ethernet port back to Lenovo, then wait 12 days to get it back. They had to replace the entire motherboard, but at least it's working fine. For now.

So, as I stated in the title, there are definitely pros and cons to the V570. I would DEFINITELY suggest purchasing an extended warranty via Square Trade. I did. And I'm glad. And as noted above, unless you are a total masochist, or you type with 2 fingers, replace this HEINOUS keyboard A.S.A.P. It takes around 10 minutes and is worth its weight in gold. (NOTE: Save the original keyboard because if you ever do have to send it to Lenovo for warranty work, changing the keyboard, according to what I read on their forum, will invalidate the warranty. I have no idea why, but apparently it does. So don't ship them the laptop with the after market keyboard; put the original one back in. Then when you get your fixed laptop back, put the after market keyboard back in. You'll thank me. I guarantee it.)

I bought this laptop for work and for the price point it was perfect.

However, I don't think the laptop is new. There is no visible damage; however, on the bottom some of the screws and screw holes have signs that they have been opened. (Chipped paint on screws, tooling mark around one of the holes.)

The Biggest problem is the keyboard. I live in the US and received a laptop with a Canadian Keyboard. No where in the description does it mention this. While I'm sure that I can adapt over time it is a huge inconvenience and very misleading.

[UPDATE (8/15/13): If you read the comment thread to this review, you'll find that there has been some confusion around whether this laptop offers a true high definition display. Turns out that this model being sold by Amazon is full high resolution (FHD) 1920x1080.]

Bought this for my son for college and he loves it.

Pros: 4th gen I7 processor; excellent graphics and better-than-expected performance from the NVIDIA graphics card while gaming; a relatively fast boot probably helped along by the 24 gb ssd; 1 tb of storage; 8 gb memory; light weight considering the size of the screen; and a touchscreen display that makes using Windows 8 almost tolerable, and it looks amazing -so good that I would have assumed it was 1080p (but it's not). [CORRECTION: As stated in the update, the display resolution is 1920x1080.]

Cons: It runs a little warm when gaming, so we bought a cooling pad; the bottom of the case could be a little better quality of plastic; would prefer the hdd be 7200 rpm instead of 5400. All of which are very minor issues. My only significant complaint is the keyboard. The chiclet keyboard feels cheap and there's something about the layout that makes it easy, for me, to lose my position and strike the wrong key. My son, the laptop's primary user, doesn't notice it. So it may be a generational thing or just my problem. And the backlighting on the keys is lackluster at best. I would prefer Asus to have installed black keys and some kind of rubber gasket to prevent light from bleeding out of the sides of key. Those two changes alone would have turned the feature from worse than useless to excellent.

If the option were available to me, I would probably have given this laptop 4.5 stars because of the keyboard, and really only because of that. As a writer, it would take me some time to adjust to this keyboard. But my son thinks it's 5 stars all the way, so 5 stars it is. Overall, this is an excellent value that you will find hard to beat. Quality components, I7 Haswell, solid graphics card, touchscreen, beautiful display, nice fit and finish... It's a win!

Note: This has nothing to do with the computer but avoid the Microsoft app store like the plague. It's a mess and many of the apps are buggy. You're much better off downloading and installing software the old-school way. Skype, for example, was a nightmare. I ended up uninstalling the app that came from the MS Store and downloaded the Win7 version of Skype in order to make it work properly. Had to do this with a number of applications.

REVIEW UPDATED:

So I just went through a form with Amazon to do a full refund after a month with the computer. This is due to the requirements for the computer. I could not justify the price for what it is. For schoolwork, it is just too big. For gaming, it is not good enough for the price. This computer was the envy of my friends and I truly did love it and will be sad to see it go away...

I am going to take my money and invest it into a very cheap and heavily discounted Asus X202 touch laptop or similar laptop for school, use the excess money to get two solid state drives, one for my new laptop and one for my desktop. I will also get new ram for my desktop as well as a next gen graphics card that so far is future proof. The rest of the money will be thrown towards a PS4 or Xbox One and will take a significant chunk out of them making it easier to get them when they release.

This way I get a computer that is more practical for school, and two very powerful game systems that blow this laptop out of the water.

I will truly miss it, it is a great laptop and I recommend it to anybody with a much bigger disposable income. I'm truly sad to see it go.

Oh, also it had battery trouble and would not keep charge after a month of use. Thats just one more reason.

BELOW IS MY OLDER REVIEW:

Ok, so for about the past 3 months I've been researching various laptops at around 1k for my first year of college.

This was the first one to have everything I wanted-

4th gen Haswell Quad Core

Good enough battery life

Touch Screen at 1920x1080

A good enough dedicated graphics card (gt750m)

The reason i give this 3 stars are because of various flaws I found with it.

The first one I ordered got here in a day. It was a amazing computer, well built, good audio, great screen, battery life. The nvida card was giving me trouble and after a session of Crysis 2, the gt750m's driver reported error code 043, which essentially means it died. I sent it back and got a new one same day from amazon and starting dealing with new issues.

My new issues were the 5400rpm hard-drive and the networking card.

The HDD is just too slow for my tastes, I've grown up on 7200rpm emachines and have a OCZ solid state drive in my desktop. it is simply too slow and I plan on replacing it if I can stay within warranty.

The Networking card (Qualcom Artheros Ar9485wb-eg) is also really slow. It takes a full minute to download 1000kb of data. Both the original and the replacement had this issue. i use either wired now or use a usb wifi adapter. Again if I can manage to stay within warranty I will replace it with something better.

Now for the better stuff.

I really like the gt750m nvidia card, it can handle most games at the same graphics of today's 7th gen consoles. The most taxing game I have are Planetside 2, it is playable in big battles on very low settings at full resolution but at any other settings it is iffy. I can manage 40-50 frames at these settings. I played left 4 dead 2 and that was eaten up. The optimus technology automatically switched to the HD 4600 integrated card in the cpu when I played Halo Combat Evolved at Maximum settings in a close quarters unlimited grenades and rockets 16 player match, the integrated card chewed it up. I haven't tried Crysis 2 on the replacement model yet.

Build quality feels like a very fine aluminum, almost like plastic but very solid, I like it.

Screen is the best I have ever had, it is beautiful.

Keyboard, I didn't like the fact it is silver but it is easy to type on and although the backlit bleeds a lot, it does make it easier to see the actual keys and not just the letters.

Mouse pad is the best I have used. Does not mess up your cursor if you accidentally touch it when typing papers like on some notebooks.

Audio is good for a notebook, the additional subwoofer is weak and I forgo it for my cheap gogroove speakers.

Battery life may sound average at 5 hours but it is very generous, when it says 3 hours and 19 minutes it really does mean that much time is left if you keep using how you are. Other notebooks seem to have a less accurate timing.

Not too much bloatware, easily removed within five minutes.

All in all i give it 3 stars because my first model failed and it has a slow HDD and crappy network card.

Pros:

Full HD IPS Touch Screen with great angles

Good keyboard although bland

Great mousepad

gt750m handles modern games well and is capable at low settings select next gen titles

battery life is generous

CPU is powerful when on high performance mode

good audio for a notebook

Cons:

SLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWW HDD at 5400rpm (upgradable)

Crappy network card that WILL frustrate you (upgradable)

Maybe a little big to bring into classes?

First models gt750m died on me

Best Deals for ASUS N550JV-DB72T 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

I recently decided to replace my four year old desktop system with a laptop.

Given that this was going to be my main computer, I needed a machine that had a good amount of grunt for video conversion and other processor intensive tasks. This machine has the new Haswell i7-4700HQ processor, which has impressive performance with relatively good power consumption.

I am an occasional but enthusiastic gamer, so I needed reasonably good graphics enough to run Civ V, Simcity, Skyrim and whatever is released next at mid settings. Obviously GPU is always a trade off between price, performance and power consumption, but I think the GT750M strikes a reasonable balance between the three. You will have to make your own call, though. If you want more performance, look at the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 15.6-Inch Laptop (Metal Dusk Black) which has 2 GT750M's in SLI mode. If you don't do much 3D gaming, an ultrabook or convertible with Intel HD4400 or 4600 integrated graphics (there are quite a few around to choose from) might suit you better.

The screen is beautiful. As screens get better on smartphones and tablets, I find the 768p screens on cheaper laptops hard to look at. Spoiled I guess. The screen is glossy but not as reflective as some I have seen and the viewing angles are excellent.

Not everyone loves touchscreens but it was a must for me. Again, using a lot of touchscreens on other devices I find touch a really natural way of interacting with the user interface, even where it hasn't been specifically designed for touch. Windows 8 is only half the product on a non-touch screen and it seems inevitable that more apps and operating systems will incorporate touch in the future. If you don't want the touchscreen, the ASUS N550JV-DB71-CA Multimedia Notebook (15.6-inch, i7-4700HQ, 8GB-DDR3, 1TB HDD, GT 750M-2G, BD-ROM, Windows 8) is the same laptop without the touchscreen. The trackpad is good too, although I am not a fan of the hidden buttons that everyone has copied from Apple. Initially I found that tapping on the trackpad to click was unresponsive but you can adjust the sensitivity of this. The keyboard is very good in terms of key size and travel, although I would have appreciated a bit of separation between the main keyboard and the number pad so I could easily feel where the enter key was. Frankly I wouldn't have been too fussed if they had left out the number pad altogether.

In terms of size and appearance, this laptop has a very high quality build. I don't care much what my laptop looks like but I do want one that doesn't creak or move while you use it and this certainly fits that bill. The 15.6" form factor is pretty hefty I would've preferred a 14" version but as it was a desktop replacement I was not too worried about the size or weight. If you plan to carry it around a lot, I would recommend you go for something smaller.

While I've said I don't care what my laptop looks like, one thing I do like about this laptop is that it is gaming-capable without looking like a gaming laptop. I find those flashy, neon-lit, tattoo-sporting gaming laptops ridiculous but unfortunately this is almost the most capable gaming laptop I have found without the bling. Even the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 15.6-Inch Laptop (Metal Dusk Black) (which looks like the natural next step up from this in the gaming performance terms) has a garish red keyboard which I would feel silly using to do my tax return.

Another important factor in choosing this laptop was warranty. I live in Hong Kong and laptops are generally much cheaper on Amazon than in the stores here, so I wanted a good international warranty. The rules about international warranties vary wildly between manfacturers, but Asus's international warranty is excellent. By contrast Acer (who have a similar model to this laptop) do not offer a true international warranty, so in my circumstances I had to rule them out of consideration entirely.

In terms of shortcomings, this laptop is much better with a decent SSD to replace the supplied HDD. I went for the Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE250BW. Luckily it is pretty easy to replace the HDD armed with a Torx#5 screwdriver. One of the advantages of a slightly bigger laptop like this over an ultrabook is that everything is user accessible and replaceable the RAM, the HDD, the wifi card, the battery, even the optical drive.

A bigger shortcoming is that, unlike several of its competitors, this laptop does not have provision for an mSATA SSD. This means you cannot install a 64GB or 128GB SSD as an OS drive and keep the HDD for data. You have to use one drive, and that means being faced with a choice between a smallish but fast SSD and a big but slow HDD. In my case, I have a NAS for storing data, so it was less of an issue for me. Also USB 3.0 (all the USB ports on this laptop are USB 3.0) makes external drives very fast.

I really didn't identify any other issues with this machine. All in all I am one happy owner.

In my dreams I would quite like this CPU/GPU combination in a convertible form factor a touchscreen is more useful again if you can fold it flat and use it like a tablet. But at the moment, none of the convertibles have a dedicated GPU or even Intel HD5100 graphics (which approaches the GT750M for performance). Maybe next year for that.

PS: I noticed that some of the specs for this machine on Amazon and a lot of other online retailers were wrong. Amazon seems to have corrected them now, but to make clear:

* No model of this laptop has an mSATA drive or any place to put one.

* This model has a 1080p IPS touchscreen. The DB71 model has a 1080p IPS non-touchscreen.

* This model has a DVD-RW drive. Some Asian and European models have a Bluray/DVD combo drive or a Bluray-RW drive.

* This has 8GB of RAM, two 4GB modules. Some Asian models come with 16GB RAM.

* This model has a 1 year international warranty and 1 year accidental damage protection (in the US & Canada only). In other countries, Asus offers a 2 year international warranty but no accidental damage protection.

* The keyboard is backlit with 3 levels of light.

One final thing: if you are shipping this (or any) laptop to or through Hong Kong, you will need to get hold of the Material Safety Data Sheet for the laptop battery. For this laptop, the battery part no is C41-N550 and the MSDS is available by telephoning Asus Hong Kong. Do not try Asus USA, they will not know what you are talking about!

Honest reviews on ASUS N550JV-DB72T 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

First off, I bought this laptop from another vendor, and cannot comment on Amazon's shipping or service. However, after owning this product for about a month, I can comment on the laptop.

Pros:

-Top-of-the-line 4th gen Core i7 processor

-Brand new, dedicated video card

-absolutely massive hard drive

-keyboard w/ backlight

-Full HD touchscreen display with IPS technology (very wide viewing angles)

-excellent build quality

Cons:

-hard drive is only 5400 RPM

-keyboard backlight is not perfect

-gets a little warm with heavy use

-it doesn't make me pancakes

Conclusion:

This really is an excellent laptop, especially for the price. For a little more than $1000, it offers you a slew of high-end components inside a well-built, attractive casing. For some more money, you could get a laptop with a higher resolution screen (Macbook Pro Retina) or with slightly better components (Razer Blade) but there's really no reason to unless you're a hardcore gamer or have a need for ultra-high resolution displays. The touchscreen makes Windows 8 infinitely more enjoyable, and makes me wonder why people ever complained about it. The hard drive, while massive, is a bit slow, and seems to occasionally bottleneck the system during some intensive tasks. However, during most use cases, this is a non-issue, and is easily rectified( Just buy yourself a faster hard drive). It does get a little warm when under heavy use, and may require a lap desk or a cooling pad to remain comfortable at times, but again, the problem is easily fixed. The keyboard backlight is a nice touch, with one minor issue. At certain angles, light leaks out from underneath the keys, making them hard to see. But, when one is sitting normally, this isn't an issue. The keyboard itself is wonderful, and I'm not sure why people have complained about it. I suppose it's a preference thing.

Overall it's an amazing laptop for the price, offering an excellent mix between build quality, aesthetics, and power.

Pros:

Very fast processor

Decently portable at ~ 6 lbs.

Great Build quality

Great Sound quality

Typing on the keyboard is perfect for me

Illuminated Keyboard is great at night while I'm coding or browsing the internet.

Decent graphics card (GTX 750m) for some light gaming As I have gotten older (26), I see myself gaming less on a laptop.

The Intel 4600 HD graphics work great for everything else when you aren't gaming, Nvidia Optimus seamlessly switches between the two gfx cards

Touch Screen works really well, it's great for those lazy nights when I have the laptop on my chest in bed.

1920 x 1080 Screen looks beautiful

Cons:

SLOW hard drive, Do yourself a favor and replace it with a Solid State Drive immediately, I went ahead and got the Samsung 840 EVO (250gb).

You will thank me later.

Can potentially get a little warm depending on use (I've noticed that if I keep the screen brightness down and setting it on powersaver mode it doesn't get very hot). A minor issue if you are like me and put it on your lap and chest while laying.

Wish the wireless card was dual band and supported 5ghz, but this can be fixed buy purchasing a ~$30 dual band internal wireless card

They skimped out on the webcam a little but this is fixable and not a huge issue.

Potential Issues:

*** TOUCH PAD *** I had to send my first one back because the right corner of my touch pad was incredibly hard to press for right-clicking, I went to microcenter to double check if their display model had this issue and it did not so I knew I needed to return mine.

The second model I received fixed this issue, but as other reviewers have noted the touch pad can lift slightly above the bezel in the top right corner. Perhaps ASUS will address this in the near future.

Windows 8 I think windows 8 is growing on me, start up is super fast, the search is powerful but I am not too fond of the way apps run without a close button. To get around this, apps like chrome need to be re-run in desktop mode.

But I'm currently trying Windows 8.1 Preview and I like it even more, It fixes many of my previous gripes and allows you to go back to desktop mode by default with the familiar windows 7 interface. The search is made even more powerful.

All in all, this is an awesome laptop. Design is beautiful, functionality is nearly flawless, and it is quite feature rich. Pretty much all of the cons can be fixed. At roughly ~$1000 it was a steal for me! Keep it up ASUS!

Couldn't be happier with this very inexpensive refurbished model from Metro Trading, I'd ordered it quickly based mostly on very low refurbished price because all my other computers had just died, it arrived at my son's at the beginning of a month's stay...fast shipping, perfect timing, very well-packed...well, it's so much more than I was expecting, worked perfectly & connected with WiFi right out of the box, I and my two grandsons have given it quite a workout over the last month, I've dropped it several times and the baby slobbered on it, it's taken a licking and keeps on ticking!! Love this machine, it's my first time with Giga-anything after using many older (but still wonderful Dell) machines since the 90's, including a crappy (but not cheap) Colby Kyros tablet that broke into pieces after 1 minor drop. Highly recommended, next month I'm going to buy one for each grandson!!!!!!! Was thinking about getting them Androids but for just a few dollars more, I can do so much better!!! I've been buying from Amazon since the 90's when it seems to me they only sold books, always very satisfied here, had maybe one or two problems which they solve immediately.

The product was delivered promptly and was ready to use right out of the box. It actually looked like a brand new T60, and functioned like one too! Not a single problem with it, including good battery function. I like it when I get the exact product that I ordered instead of a product that has cosmetic problems and/or function problems. The last T60 I ordered through Amazon had a battery problem that the seller would not even discuss. I would buy another computer or computer related product from this seller in a heartbeat...and I intend to do so in the near future. Two BIG thumbs up for this seller.

I am a long time Dell customer, who has had just about one of every version of the Dell Latitude in since the C series. Because of pricing differences, I decided to give HP a try with the HP 8560P and am very impressed with it. The design is well thought out, the build quality is first class, and the performance is unbeatable.

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this machine, except for possibly its weight and the fact that HP hasn't refreshed their docking stations to match the performance of the laptop. Even the best docking station they have available for this laptop has no modem pass-through, only 2 digital video ports at a time, and USB 2.0 instead of 3.0.

The keyboard on this laptop has a unique design that works and feels great. Its design prevents spills or dirt from getting into the machine.

The new touch-pad is gigantic and works great. There is an "eraser head" mouse in the center of the keyboard for people who prefer to keep their fingers on the keys. Both can be deactivated in the software if you prefer for them to be off while you use your external mouse.

The screen and audio is wonderful.

The hing is solid and firm. Much better than on the Dell's.

The performance of this machine is incredible. I rendered a video in Premiere, while running a various scan, copying a DVD, and playing HD contact from Netflix all at the same time. Incredible.

For the price, this is the best machine on the market. I highly recommend it, or a custom build version of it direct from HP.

Everything was as described. This laptop is everything I thought it would be. Absolutley loving it! If there were any cons, it would be a lack of documentation explaining ALL the features of this laptop. It is a little heavy, but very minor issue for all the benefits this laptop provides.

I am a long time Dell customer, who has had just about one of every version of the Dell Latitude in since the C series. Because of pricing differences, I decided to give HP a try with the HP 8560P and am very impressed with it. The design is well thought out, the build quality is first class, and the performance is unbeatable.

Honest reviews on Elitebook 8560P 15.6" I5-2410M

hp has had issues with their build quality / quality control as of late. Just take a look at my experience with the HP Pavilion dv6-6140us Entertainment Notebook PC (Silver).

When my employer informed me that I was getting a new PC, I was hoping it would not be an hp. When the package arrived, and I saw the hp logo, my heart sunk. I got one of these hp EliteBooks. My model is the 8560p, with an i7 Quad Core (2.7GHz), 500GB HD, & 8GB of RAM.

The first unit I had produced BSOD's almost immediately, and repeatedly, right out of the box. It seems tech support ran into a few of these issues, and traced it back to some bad RAM from the supplier. I got a replacement quickly, and the replacement as been going strong with no issues.

The keys are well spaced and have a very solid feel to them. The PC itself is heavy & feels very well made. There is an anti glare coating on the 1600 x 900 display that makes viewing in bright light easy. The web cam is fantastic. The processor is lightning fast. Plenty of connectivity options, except for an HDMI port. This Notebook is a little on the heavy side. It's a lot to carry around, but at least hp was nice enough to include a case. I like the fact that it is ruggedized. The Notebook can handle some abuse. The top & bottom latch together for a secure fit.

Battery life is a little disappointing. I'm lucky if I get 3 hours out of it. I have adjusted the power settings without much of a difference. On the plus side, it runs very cool & very quiet. This silver / gray finish doesn't show fingerprints, or dust, and I like that. Sound quality is very good. I don't notice that the beats audio on my dv6-6140us is any better, to tell you the truth. The fingerprint reader & facial recognition software make this a very secure and convenient Notebook.

Nothing is perfect but this PC from hp is alright. It would be nice if there was consistency to their production. I'd like to see a back lit keyboard as well but you have to move up the line for that feature.

If I had to purchase a PC, I would probably avoid hp.

Just being honest.

Hope this helps.

The Elite book 8460P is an Excellent computer at an affordable price. I have 2 and was ordering another one, (First time from Amazon, for this specific computer) and had plans to order even more. Lots of number crunching power, great speed, good graphics and the company (Where I work at) uses hundreds of them.

BUT the Amazon merchant "onSale" refused to complete my order, as they didn't think the UPS store (In Pompano Beach, Fl. USA) I was having it shipped to, was in the USA. In their email sent to me: QUOTE: "are prohibited from shipping products outside US and are not allowed to ship items to any freight or mail forwarder address". I have found another Amazon merchant for this computer and hope I will have no further shipping issues. For the many years I have done business with Amazon, this is the first unpleasant experience... :-( (Obviously not Amazon's fault though)

Review of Sony VAIO(R) VPCCA17FX Signature Collection C Series 14" Notebook

Sony VAIO(R) VPCCA17FX Signature Collection C Series 14' Notebook PC - Orange
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

Pros: Green, Orange, Blue Colors, Blu-ray, 2nd Gen i5, Easy to Upgrade, Great Performance.

Cons: Screen quality can be better, bulky, Ubuntu doesn't work, Plastic Material, Easy to Scratch.

Summary: My point of view:

This laptop is good for kids, teens and university student. My kids 7 and 8 years old love the colors, but when you visit a customer and take the laptop to the meeting room doesn't look professional. Very fast performance with the new Radeon 6630M video card, you can play a good games with it, not using the best performance. The new i5 CPU help the battery life (4 Hours Aprox). Blu-ray included but the 1366x768 resolution doesn't help to appreciate a full HD movie.

The screen quality and brightness is not the best. Easy to upgrade. If you clean the computer with a microfiber cloth you can see little scratches in the top case.

Summary: If you are looking a good laptop for study with a cool colors this is perfect for you.

The T430s is a solid business laptop that we use as the standard developer machine, usually with an SSD for the boot/OS drive, a larger SSD or a conventional HD in the drive bay for the data disk, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and the Core i7-3520M. You cannot go wrong with this machine.

There is a slight 1-star deduction from the rating because we have had repeated problems with the Lenovo-installed Micron SSDs on several machines. They require a firmware update that Lenovo made available only recently (in June 2013). Without it, the dreaded 2100 HDD initialization error will cause you downtime when you least expect it.

the Lenovo notebook with a inter I7 processer is quite fast. however, the hard disk is only 144G, which is too small to be convenient. A hard disk at least 500G, will be ok.

I was looking for a thin and light replacement of an old T42 ThinkPad for a few months and this was the best out of box hardware configuration I could find. And it can be easily upgraded. There is a very detailed description on the seller's web site, which offered the best price.

This is a great laptop and it dramatically improved everyday tasks such as Internet surfing, which was pathetically slow on the old one, which is very convenient otherwise. I would prefer to have the same old screen factor, but it seems like wide screens have become the only option even for business laptops. Also, the old Windows XP is much more convenient for me than Windows 7.
