I'm always on the go, and I needed a machine that was light, fast, and had a good screen resolution.

I've been using the Samsung NP900X3E-K01US for a month now and it's ridiculously LIGHT, SNAPPY FAST, and a BEAUTY.

A few reviews have already mentioned the core of this ultrabook's pros and cons, so I won't bore you with a repeat information. Instead, I'd like to share with you a few thoughts of the machine and use cases:

My biggest concern for not jumping on to this deal right away was due to the 4GB RAM restriction. I still feel a little upset that Samsung didn't put a 8GB RAM on this machine, but surprisingly it's adequate enough for me. I use Photoshop heavily for all my freelance work. I have CS6 and Photoshop runs perfectly fine for web work. However, the 4GB restriction starts to kick in when you're working with HUGE documents (300ppi) magazines, because the scrub zoom feature becomes disabled. Fortunately, I only do webdesign and do not need to work on huge pictures and publications. However, if you are in the business of such, I would look for another machine.

I code a lot. I'm usually seen having multiple programs open: sublime, photoshop, visual studio 2012, eclipse, Chrome with 20+ tabs open, and Firefox streaming music. Yet, there is no sign of lag. I hit roughly ~60% memory usage.

Sometimes, I like to sit on my bead and watch streams like Twitch.tv and Youtube. The ultrabook does get a little toasty hot and at times can be too hot for it to lay on your bare legs.

As some users have mentioned, the wifi has some issues, but it's not bad. It can be a simple fix as reconnecting or just sitting closer to the wifi spot.

I'm coming from a Macbook Air and I'll admit the Samsung's trackpad is very good. Although, I will say the Air has a slightly better response. Nevertheless, the trackpad does a mighty fine job and feels really good.

Overall, I love this machine. It has allowed me to program/design on the fly due to its lightness and great battery life. The machine does its job and the 1080p MATTE screen is gorgeous. Photoshop editing is a joy due to the vibrant colors and programming is so much easier as you can have two windows side by side and not suffer from lack of screen real estate. For those holding off due to the 4GB RAM, I completely understand the concern, but it has not been an issue for me yet.

This computer is awesome. i have always used 15" screen laptops in the past, then I decided I wanted to check out a MacBook. I loved the size at 13" and screen was perfectly clear, but I ahve learned that I have no patience for thnigs that just don't work when I need them to, for example I couldn't wirelessly print to any of the printers I owed. So along comes this jem. The same screen size, perfectly clear, the lightest laptop I have ever used and a Solid State HDD to boot. I have never used a machine that was so fast. It boots in about 3 seconds, it comes out of hiberantion in about 2 seconds. I am not a fan of Windows 8 by any strech, but I can tolerate it on this. The lighted keyboard is great, the keys are very responsive, movies look good on this and I use it for almost everything.

So want don't I liek about it, the wireless sucks. I have about 6 laptops of varying makes in my house and all of them work flawlessly from anywhere in my house, but this mahcine drops signals faster than it boots. I mean the wireless is really bad, very frustrating and generally gets me mad enought to want to throw it across the room.

But, I love enerything else about it, so I can suffer a little and just better position myself. It really has so many good points and travels light that I enjoy using it, just have to be careful when i'm trying to get an internet connection.

Update 9/3/13:

So in my review I mention the ohorrible WiFi. I finally called Samsung over the Holiday weekend and they were actually there to ehlp me out. I explained my issues and they had me change a few settings and so far...the Wireless is rocking! If this fixes the WiFi issues, then this is the best laptop I have ever owned.

Best Deals for Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP900X3E-K01US 13.3-Inch Full HD Premium

Completely satisfied with the purchase of the ATIV book 9. I have been using a 13 inch laptop and this is my first ultrabook.

Pros

well designed. feels and works like a premium product.

Extremely lightweight if you have to travel with your laptop.

Gorgeous full HD display. Images are crisp and clear with good contrast.

Very good trackpad which registers all the movements accurately. The absence of touchscreen is not felt here. It maybe a personal preference but having a touchscreen on a laptop may not be that helpful (only if it converts to a tablet would it be useful .. like the Lenovo Ideapad).

Good back lit keyboard.

Quiet.

very good battery life. easily went beyond 6 hrs with normal usage (word processing, web browsing etc)

Cons

Not really a con ... but has bunch of applications pre-installed. You might want to get rid of intellimemory. Its not needed if you have SSD and infact slows down the computer. Dont know why samsung opted for it.

The battery power adapter pin does not go all the way in the slot of the ultrabook. It sticks out a bit and feels a bit loose. Not really a deal breaker .. it charges fine .. but if you are paying a premium you would assume samsung to take care of these details.

Because of the thin form factor, VGA port is different and you would need to buy an adapter to connect to external display which uses normal VGA pins. Ideally Samsung should have bundled it in by default.

if you need lots of ports or you are an avid gamer (casual gaming is fine) .. this may not be the laptop for you.

Honest reviews on Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP900X3E-K01US 13.3-Inch Full HD Premium

There have been some issues with the series 9 with wifi, and the trackpad. But not here. Samsung seems to have perfected this little jewel. Touch Pad works flawlessly. There is no touch screen and for good reason. This machine's 1080P matte screen is gorgeous. When I saw it at Best Buy it made everything else look terrible in the store.. including the mac pro retina's. Its that good. Ended up buying here because I wanted the fastest 2.0 i7 and 256GB SSD. Paid 1500 and worth every penny believe me. I got close to 6 hours battery life already doing web and a little you tube. Back lit KB is very nice.. very luxurious looking and I love the feel of the KB as well and can type fast with few mistakes. I think luxurious is the best word for this machine. Everything just works as it should. The precision of the build quality is like nothing I have every seen. The lid closes perfectly and the hinge feels solid yet smooth to operate. The SSD on mine is a liteon and its is very fast. The one thing I worried about was the speakers and they are amazing sounding for how small this ultrabook is. Sure not much bass but very pleasing and not shrill sounding or harsh in any way. Samsung is getting ready to release a ultra hi resolution touch screen version of this and I did not want it because of the glossy screen and its a half pound heavier. Its just crazy that all this packed into a 2.5 lb package. Even the MB air is bulky next to this and it looks dated and cheap next to the top of the line ativ book 9. This is the one to get believe me. It has plenty of storage with the 256GB SSD and has the fastest i7 2.0 that turbos over 3. I've owned 5 other laptops which were mid to high grade consumer class. I always had some issues with all of them. Some I had second doubts after receiving them. Not with the book 9. I have zero second doubts about this purchase. And believe me, at 1500 dollars if anything is out of place I will know it and not be happy.

The only con can say at this time is with W8. But I am customizing that to my liking and actually like what W8 is under the hood. I would not go back to W7. The track pad does fine navigating it and I also bought a MS BT Sculpt comfort Mouse which is a great BT mouse since you don't need to use a USB port. This only has two USB but I really don't fault Samsung for that. There is absolutely no room for more ports. Remember, all this at the impossible weight of 2.5 lbs.

Pros: Battery life, design, extremely light, amazing matte display, good keyboard, multi-touch gestures, blazing fast ssd.

Cons: Minor issues with touch pad, some settings are hard to find (note: this problem would occur with any windows 8 device so they really aren't cons), no touch screen, cannot upgrade ram(4 gigs is enough for me though)

I would say this laptop fits anyone who wants an extremely portable laptop and can easily slip it into an backpack or carry it around. For someone who wants a top-of-the line ultrabook that is fast, slim, and whose design they can show off because it is flawless. I cannot say enough about the looks of the laptop, especially the display and the back-lit keyboard. Not to mention this thing is fast...

It was expensive but after owning this product for a few weeks I'd say it's worth it because I love it. Check out my full video review here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYWVXOrYG4

It's pretty, perfect size, and have enough memory for use it at home, or study. The weight is a little bit heavy, if you compare it with the new slim and light notebook and laptops... but if you don't need to use it for travel, or business, or to carry anywhere, it's perfect.

Owned this about year and a half. Just now was advised that the hard drive is ok but the motherboard is fried because the cord connection is a weak spot and if used or moved frequently it destroys the motherboard. Just be advised. Its apparently an HP problem on other computers also. Get the Pro series which has the connections in the back of the computer.

I just received the unit today. Sony had(has) a deal going with about half off on the 512GB SSD drive option so I picked one up fully loaded.. i7, 8GB RAM, and the 512GB SSD drive. Everything has met expectations thus far except the screen. I was really expecting a better screen than what I am seeing thus far. Usually Sony has really nice vibrant screens but the screen is average I would say. It is not bad by any means but nothing like a Mac or even some of the other higher end Windows laptops out there. Ok other than that it is awesome. It cold boots in about 5 seconds and that is no exaggeration. Everything is blazing fast and that is mostly due to Windows 8 and the SSD Drive. So far I am very pleased with it other than the screen as I mentioned. There is nothing else to mention as a negative yet.

Pros

Beautiful machine

Very light weight

Nice keyboard

Loaded with all the ports you will need

Blue Ray drive

The only laptop I could find out there that has a 512 SSD option other than a Mac and right now you can get it for a song by comparison

Comes with the excellent Sony Imagination Studio package.

Cons

Screen isn't as bright or as high resolution as it could be

Just a follow up 12/13 After calibrating the screen using the Windows calibration tool and adjusting the color in the Intel control panel I was able to get the screen to look a lot better. Still not retna quality by any means, but much, much better. On another note, I discovered after I brought it into the office that it doesn't have a laptop locking cable port. That kind of sucks but still over all I am very pleased with the purchase. If you can swing it get one with the SSD drive it just screams.

This is a relatively inexpensive Sony product and honestly, there is not an electronics company anywhere that is as consistent as Sony in terms of quality at lower price and intelligent design over a broad range of electronics categories. Enough gushing about Sony, though.

Out of the box, the laptop is sleek, light (4lbs) and pretty. My sister actually called this laptop "sexy".

What's great about this laptop? After the initial setup, inevitable updating of software and full charge of the battery, you get to see just how awesome the 32 GB cache memory is. Booting up, as one reviewer said, "literally takes 5 seconds". That's with a 5400 rpm hard drive. And bringing the computer out of sleep is instantaneous (usually).

Maintenance is easy with the "Sony Vaio Care" built right into the computer. Sony provides 3 buttons called "Assist", "Web" and "Vaio". I haven't messed with "Web" and "Vaio" yet, but the "Assist" button has 2 roles. If you press it when the computer is shutdown, it automatically turns the computer on and brings up a menu of recovery and BIOS options. No more trying to remember "Is it F10 or F2 that gets me to the BIOS? Is F8 Windows Recovery?". Assist takes you right there. When the OS is already loaded "Assist" brings up the Sony Vaio Care menu, allowing you to tweak the basic settings for power management, sound, and a few other things. I really have grown to love this design feature.

There's almost no bloatware on the computer. Just a trial of Kaspersky anti-virus and MS Office. Both are easy to remove.

I've already mentioned speed. I do have to bring up that while power management settings don't seem to affect boot time, they do mess with performance. At "High Performance" settings, the processor and memory handle most of the nonsense I throw at them. Run Photoshop, Excel and Matlab at the same time...while listening to music? Not a problem. Do the same thing with power management on "Power Saving", well, then you experience SOME jumps and lags in performance. I'm not complaining.

What's merely good? I'm not a big fan of the keyboard. I was spoiled on my last device which was a 15.6 inch ASUS lap with chiclet keys and a 10key. This thing doesn't have enough real estate for a ten key, but I find typing to be a little less responsive to what I'm used to.

Speakers are good, but not great. Music IS great through headphones, so the problem is NOT with the HD integrated sound card.

Best Deals for Sony VAIO T Series SVT14115CXS 14-Inch Ultrabook (Silver)

Fast, good resolution screen, good battery life, does not get too hot...........However, somehow I wished I had selected amodel / brand with the backlit keyboard. I have heard that some machine can be modified to be that way, but I do not know if this one can.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO T Series SVT14115CXS 14-Inch Ultrabook (Silver)

The computer is good and very light, so easy to take on business trips. I wanted a DVD player and this was about the lightest, most compact computer I could find that also had a DVD player. Sound quality is good on the speakers and the screen is beautifully clear.

I have had a little problem connecting to a WiFi network at a client's office and from what the tech guy there said, it may be an issue with the NIC card the Sony is using. Also, sometime the keyboard responsiveness is not great, with the keys getting stuck.

Overall, though, a very usable machine that is also attractive. I'm glad I own this.

Great to use once you get used to Windows 8 -which we now love-very slick.

Computer boots up quickly and is a joy to use.

Love the keyboard.

Sounds nothing to write home about but we don't use it for that except via TV-so makes no difference.

As a corporate user I am really impressed with the light weight, great processing speed and sub 10 second Windows boot! As an IT professional I travel often and bought this for frequent travel. I'm so impressed with the performance this may be my main machine. I was nervous about the keyboard feel given the limited reviews I found on othe sites. In fact the keyboard is great!

Very happy with this machine, and as an owner of an Lenovo think pad, iPad2, iMac, MacbookPro 2nd gen, that says a lot! I did upgrade to 8GB of memory and love the SSD in this model.

Cheers!

Previous to this Toshiba C655-S5132 laptop I owned an Acer Aspire One 8.9 inch netbook. The most impressive feature of the Toshiba is the 15.6 inch screen, which is a delight to view. It's so easy to read and is sharp and bright that photos pop out of the page. This is a user friendly computer and handsome at that. It is very quiet and doesn't heat up on you. The surfaces are textured so fingerprints aren't an issue. The keyboard is full size, unlike my Acer, so it's really easy and comfortable to type on. The wireless is very powerful and can pull in signals without an adapter. You can piggyback signals without the need of a booster antenna. Internet access is relatively fast and reliable. The six cell battery is long lasting, almost four hours. The audio speakers sound a heck better than what I've been accustomed, although a pair of add-ons are necessary to give you quality music reproduction. The Windows Seven software is very basic and simpler than the Microsoft XP program. It is streamlined and more intuitive, but once you get the hang of it you can accomplish whatever it is you need to do. The 3GB memory drive is very ample with plenty of space to spare for your files, photos and music downloads. There are a couple of items that could be improved, however. The Toshiba features only two USB ports situated on the left side. Three would have been better (with one on the right), 'cause I don't like the fact I have to stretch the mouse wire to my right side (I'm right handed, wouldn't matter if you're a lefty). The mouse by the way is an accessoryit isn't included in the purchase price. Secondly, a webcam would have been a nice addition. But overall, I am enjoying this laptop. It has no technical issues and the unit appears to be dependable. For the money I feel it's a good buy and superior to the Acer netbook.

I replaced a four year old Compact which just went belly-up one morning upon startup. Fortunately I had done a complete back-up, on an external drive, the night before. (Hard to believe I got that lucky and I definitely recommend doing so frequently on an external drive it saved me many headaches.)I really like the keyboard which is standard size for a laptop and has a separate numeric pad which I use frequently. The screen is very bright, but not glaring and so far I have no complaints. Yes, I too would prefer to have another usb port on the right side, but since I use a wireless mouse I have no problem with the cord being stretched. If I need more usb ports, I can always purchase a Black 4-Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub from Amazon they are on sale today for $2.95 regularly $19.99. Black 4-Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub I'm very happy with mine and will be telling my sister to get the same one, so you know I must really like it!

Purchased this several months ago. I recently discovered that one of the USB ports and the Ethernet connector do not function. This machine must not have been checked after it was manufactured.

Several weeks ago the wi-fi connection stopped working.

I will steer clear of all Toshiba products from now on.

On the Toshiba website, general computer repair prices are several hundred dollars.

I wish I could award no stars for this product.

This laptop really is worth the price my older sister had this laptop for 4 years before giving it to my mom who has had it for 2 years. Looking at buying one for my husband. We previously owned two HP laptops and they didn't even make it a year before they started having problems. It has always done everything I've needed it to do. I wanted to buy a new laptop because of a new expansion pack coming out for the Sims 3. My previous laptop was from 2007 and so it was obviously time to get a new laptop. For some reason I found myself drawn to this laptop. It met my computer specifications that I had on my search. Correct graphics card, fast, and light. I love this laptop! The graphics are extremely clear. There is nothing wrong with the sound. It sounds like sound would on any laptop. I don't use the track pad so I don't know how well it works or doesn't work. Colors are great. I only address these issues because people complained about them. I haven't had any problems with my laptop thus far. I'm very happy with my purchase! The reviews had made me a little weary but I took a risk and am happy with my gamble!

I bought this laptop mainly for the IPS monitor -I am a professional photographer and I needed a travel computer for when I cannot edit at home. I wanted a computer where my photos would not look completely different because we all know how unreliable editing on a laptop can be. I have owned this laptop for several months right now, and overall I am extremely happy. When you tilt the screen up and down, the color and brightness does not change one bit, which is fabulous for editing. I love the multi-touch trackpad -I can't go back to using older trackpads after this laptop. This laptop is lightning fast, sleek and thin, and has a quality display that can't be beat. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Best Deals for Sony VAIO S Series SVS15113FXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I've owned this laptop for more than a year and even now it's hard to find such a well built and lightweight one.The matte-screen is absolutely stunning crisp and clear (1920 x 1080). 2 months after I bought it, replaced the hard drive with a solid state 256gb OCZ Octane, installed customized bios that boost the Nvidia 640M LE performance by almost 50%. I was able to play Battlefield 2 and other 3d intensive games in full hd without any issues! The keyboard is very well built and perfect for typing. On the third month replaced Win 7 with Windows 8. There were some missing drivers in the beginning but Sony quickly released the drivers for the new OS. Later on Synaptics released their touchpad driver with all swiping gestures for Windows 8 great stuff(no need for touch screen :)) The battery life is about 3 1/2 4 hours on average (with SSD!!!).

Almost forgot to mention the Magnesium Alloy used in this model. The material is lightweight, very sturdy, and after more than a year of daily use, there are no noticeable scratches!!

The sound quality is mediocre; great HD cam; backlit keyboard; Stamina Speed button (great for controlling the performance when needed); USB 3.0 which can charge usb device (cell phone) even when the laptop is off.

One of the greatest features design-wise is the location of the exhaust fan. It's right in the middle of the laptop, which allows prolonged lap-typing without any discomfort (very quiet as well).

Overall great laptop!!!

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO S Series SVS15113FXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver)

The computer I received was in excellent working condition. Set up was quick and straight forward.

However, I'm a little old school when it comes to the mouse function. The on board mouse (track pad) is nice with it multi-function, however when typing it becomes an issue as my palms depress the pad at times and the cursor jumps. Additionally track pad is not centered on keyboard, so my hands do not go to home keys automatically. I'm always having to adjust my position to the home keys. Been a couple of months and still having to adjust. I ended up turning it off to eliminate the problem. It's quick to boot, but then again it's new, so maybe you'll want to check back in a year or two.

Pro's

Fast boot, nice screen, easy to set up.

Very light a real plus.

Con's

Track pad not centered on home keys.

Pressure from palms activate track pad, and cursor jumps. (Had to turn track pad off to get around this)

Fingers do not automatically go to home keys even after months of use.

USB ports interfere with mouse operation. But, this seems to be a problem with most laptops these days.

Would I recommend it to a friend? That is the question!

I bought this laptop to use as my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I wasn't looking to spend too much, but I wanted a minimum spec, which this laptop filled. Most important was a dual core processer. The i5 in this machine is plenty powerful enough for my use. I also wanted a 7200rpm hard drive this one has it. I did upgrade the RAM to the full 16GB (an extra $88 in Crucial memory) the machine comes with 4GB and is upgradable to 16GB. That upgrade took all of 1 minute. All in, I spent under $700 for a laptop that could have easily cost $900 or more.

I love the look of this thing. It's big, with a large screen. Might not be a great traveling laptop, but for my needs it is exactly what I want.

Everything arrived in new condition. Fired it up out of the box and installed the updates. NO bloat ware to deal with at all, really. Just some HP tools that you don't need enable. This laptop is clean and PERFECT for my use. No processing issues when recording music I get about 4 or 5ms latency using ASIO drivers I can get similar latency with the WAVE RT driver as well. The Windows rating on this system is 5.9 out of 7.9 which is pretty respectable.

I'm running Mixcraft Pro Studio 6.0, Superior Drummer 2.0 & Melodyne Editor 2 without any hiccups.

I'm extremely pleased with my decision to go with this laptop. Yes, it comes with the Windows 8 upgrade but I'm not touching it! Windows 7 Pro is very stable and what I'm sticking with in this particular instance.

I would recommend this laptop of you're on a budget and looking for performance without a bunch of frills. There's no office productivity software pre-installed so if you're buying this for business purposes make sure you have all of the software you want to run. I'm sure that's one of the reasons the price is so reasonable.

For the home audio enthusiast, this is a great entry point platform for your audio recording and editing needs.

I like the raised keys on the keyboard. I like how quiet this laptop is. The sound and video are very good. Compared to other laptops I've had it's amazingly quiet.. It's nice and light. My last laptop, an Acer, would get burning hot. Not this one. Thanks to some new technology developed by HP it stays cool, which is a very nice feature. It's fast enough. I tried a Toshiba laptop before I got this one but sent it back because the sound and picture were both terrible, and because I HATED the Windows 8 operating system. I feel very lucky to have found this excellent computer with Windows 7, which I much prefer. I would recommend this laptop.

Alright guys, let me see how precise I can be with this review. I bought this machine for a client of mines and they absolutely love it!

First of with the build quality. Its brushed aluminium with some plastic around so the build quality does feel pretty solid. It's a bit heavier than the equivalent lenovo with the same specs but it's not terrible and of the bat, of the better things about the build quality is that everything sits securely on the machine. The lenovo I bought a while aback had q/c issues with the dvd drive sticking out. But this machine was perfect. Oh the machine is a little wider than you think it is, but its not that big a deal. the black finish at the bottom hides how wide the machine actually is.

Now for what comes in the box. I TOTALLY LOVEEEEEEEEE the fact that it came with BOTH operating system DVD's. HP ... YOU GUYS ROCK FOR THAT! So this laptop came with both installation cd's, either windows 7 pro or windows 8 pro, which ever you choose to upgrade it to. And of course with all HP machines it comes with a tonne of bloatware that would take you at least an hour to get rid off (my only major gripe but I still give it 5 stars). But one you get rid of the HP bloatware it works brilliantly!

Now I did notice an earlier review where someone was complaining about it coming in french which I did think was a bit odd. But for those of you who are reading this rewview pay attention. When the laptop is booting for the FIRST time a screen will come up to select which language you want installed to use your machine. YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AT THIS POINT. Because once you select the wrong language it cannot be undone unless you do a complete reinstall. So I figured either the gentleman or his mom was rushing the setup and didn't realise until it was too late. So ppl, please be careful when running the set up.

And I absolutely HAVE to mention the software update for this machine. Now when I was trying update the lenovo I kept getting a stupid error about the updates failing and had to go through the painstaking task of installing them one by one. Which I thought was a bit odd. And guess what, on the dare HP ... NO SUCH PROBLEMS !!! Clicked download, windows installed, even told me there were some unecessary updates and to date it's purring like a kitten !!!

And one final thing is that FN key was not working on my laptop. I was abit alarmed and concerned at first, but if its one thing, I can't fault HP online customer support, and sure enough there was a nice little file on HP's website which said HP FN driver update/fix .. and with that installed the machine didn't fail to impress me.

All in all I highly recommend this HP laptop, which is strange of me to say because I used to hate HP, but if I had to choose this and the lenovo(which was a fingerprint magnet btw), I DEFINITELY would go with this!

If any of you who are reading this and still have more questions. Feel free to contact me!

Honest reviews on HP ProBook 4540s 15.6" Business Notebook PC - C6Z37UT

It's a computer laptop. It works as expected. I got this one because I didn't want windows 8, but wanted a decent amount of memory. This gave me the option of sticking with 7 and also gave me a disk I could use to upgrade to windows 8 if I ever feel adventuresome. I like the key board. The keys are raised. There are some features I haven't tried yet. It is light weight. That is a plus. Much faster than my other laptops. The CD/DVD slot is not well designed, is flimsy and is hard to open. Update: It has a strange deal with the mouse. There is a small pin light (not a button) in the left portion of the mouse closest to the monitor. If you touch it by accident the light will come on and your mouse will freeze. The only thing that will make the mouse unfreeze is to tap that light several times. Apparently my other HP laptop is like this as well and I never have been unfortunate enough to accidently press it. Other than several hours of panic, it didn't harm anything. But scared me to have my computer essentially frozen and unable to access my documents.

The only complaint I have about this laptop is that it's a little big. But hey, I knew that going into it. I upgraded from a Toshiba 13.3" ultrabook that was very light-weight and compact but lacked a little on the power side. I found myself needing a little more power.

15.6" is a little larger than I am used to, but I can't blame HP for that -I knew what I was getting, and I'll get over it in time. And it's actually a lot lighter weight than other comparably sized laptops.

Beyond that, I have a lot of good things to say about this laptop. First off, it's one of the few laptops remaining on Amazon that comes with Windows 7 at all, much more Windows 7 Professional. That was a serious selling point for me. It's got some nice features like a fingerprint-reader that you can setup to process your Windows login rather than typing in a password, which is fun as well.

It also has an excellent keyboard that feels just right...raised keys that have just enough umphh to feel what you are typing, and a 10-key! (Okay, I'm an accountant, so 10-keys matter to me more than most.)

I am consistently getting about 6 hours of battery life doing light computing (word processing, internet surfing, but no video streaming or playing music.) That's exactly what I was looking for. And after coming from a 2nd generation i3 to this 3rd generation i5, the thing seems blazingly fast.

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks and so far I am loving it. As long as you are okay with a 15.6" computer, I would highly recommend this. And it came with a free Windows 8 disk if you ever feel the desire to upgrade...thus far I do not.

I can't say much for the OS -my computer use is pretty basic, so memory, RAM, and processing are fine. But I've always taken the keyboard for granted. That is until this keyboard. You can sometimes press the outer edge of a key (while still executing the keystroke), without the letter registering. The result -a lot of non-user-error misspellings. I'm disappointed in this purchase because of that and wouldn't recommend it.

This laptop offers a well-balanced set of features for its intended purpose: not an ultralight machine for entertainment but something closer to a desktop PC for serious work. The display is attractive, the speed is good thanks to the Intel i3 processor, memory and storage capacity are adequate. In my case, it was an excellent value for the money since I bought a practically similar machine for $399.

I had some reservations about a machine running windows 8. After a few days of use I am reassured that it was a good choice. I started out in the tiled mode but soon discovered the Desktop mode. This is how I will use it, with few exceptions. I like to have the option of the two modes:

The windows8 mode (tiles) is perfect for playing around or for those who are best at clicking or touching after being spoiled by tablets. I think I understand the reason for Microsoft giving this mode preference: money. What used to be 'programs' are now 'apps', with the difference that they now ask one to 'accept' something or enter data to milk our personal information, and try to suck us into some 'store' to buy... more 'apps'. I have immediately removed from the start menu the tiles of the most stupid 'apps', and will only use this mode when I allow myself to be childish.

The 'Desktop' mode is the real one for productive work. I promptly installed the program "Start8" that makes the PC boot into this desktop mode and restores the Start button to its function in windows 7. After trying it out I'll spend the $4.99 to permanently use Start8.

This computer has an awesome CD/DVD burner! We run a DJ/KJ show and the burner is super important for creating and backing up music as well as playing customer CD+G or MP+G discs. Great big hard drive to store digital music.

It's not a bad computer but the keys feel cheap and the touchpad isn't smooth. It came with Windows 8 which was a pain to get setup since no documentation came with the computer. Since it doesn't have a touchscreen I would have rather had Windows 7 installed.

Toshiba Satellite C875-S7340 17 inch Laptop went still wrapped in the Amazon packing box to Best Buy Geek Squad for set up (I have a 3 computer set up and repair contract with Geek Squad). Here is the Geek Squad report: "Unit was purchased from Amazon and is missing many software that comes from manufacturer. Also had diagnostics software that started at boot that put unit to sleep every 30 sec. Recommend returning to Amazon for refund or exchange."

I sure think Toshiba should send me a new laptop for saving them the trouble this model will bring to them if they don't take it off the market ASAP. It went on sale at Amazon on 11/12/12. I bought it the day prior and so was one of the first buying it at Amazon. I am not fond of buying junk that needs to be returned especially $599.00 junk. Gee Wiz how much does the Toshiba CEO make in an hour. Please multiply that by about 6 hours of my time and send me the money whoever you are!

Love this laptop. It does everything I require, and the price was wonderful. Even received extras, like the nice leather carrying case, an external mouse, and the power cord. The product arrived even earlier than expected.

Have an Acer Aspire 4730 notebook/laptop which I bought 1 year ago. The USB ports started not to work. I emailed Acer within the 1 year warranty time frame, but they never returned by email. When I called it was 1 week beyond the warranty, and they continued to say they couldn't do anything about it (eventhough I emailed them previously). Very frustrating, and will absolutely never deal with Acer again.

The 1600*900 screen is perfect, but the front size is a little bit small. You can set all program front size to large to solve such kind of problem. But please remember, not all software could do so. And more, the color of screen maybe a little different from the normal laptop you are used to. It would be richer. Nevertheless, I bought this laptop for it beautiful out shape and thinkpad brand fame. If you do like it as me, it worth have a try

Finally I can travel and work from home and not look so dorky with a fat windows laptop. This is thin, sleek, sturdy. And it is 14". The reviews I've looked at compared its width and depth (same as MacBook Air) and height (a smidge higher).

I was worried that the chicolate keys would be unsatisfactory (compared to the great keyboards of the past) but I'm getting used to it and am able to type quickly.
