This laptop is great. It is powerful, well made, and even has good battery life for a 17" machine. Our only complaint is in terms of value. After buying one of these ZBooks, we found that the Dell Precision has similar performance at a much lower price. With the 3200 x 1800 resolution screen, we found that employees who used to demand a 17 inch display were now begging for the higher resolution, lighter weight, and smaller package of the Dell Precision M4800.

There is nothing wrong with this machine, but give Dell a chance if you are looking for a better value and higher screen resolutions.

Solid computer, no frills. It does everything I need and I picked this up for about 550 dollars as a replacement for a Toshiba Satellite. I like this computer better. The only reason I am rating it 4 stars is because the left and right click is performed by pushing in the corner of the finger mouse pad, essentially there is just one big square to do your mouse moving and left/right clicking the bottom corners of the pad. It's just really awkward and there is a learning curve, sometimes you try to left click, but the pad thinks you are trying to move the cursor instead because like I said the pad is somewhat awkward, this leads to all kinds of fun like typing, then moving your cursor and having your cursor jump to some odd part of the page, or somehow it highlights a certain part of text, then you start typing and it replaces the text you accidentally highlighted, in some odd spot on the page.

Good battery life, lots of little cool features, Sub optimal clicking set up.

The computer has worked very well so far, the only thing I don't like much is the touchpad, maybe I am used to the classic two-button touchpads and not to the Apple kind.

Anyway the laptop works really well and the price is very good.

After reading the reviews on this computer, I just want to say that, compared to other laptops from various manufacturers (Apple, HP, Dell, etc.), this computer is by far the most well built computer I have ever come across. I have taken this computer to school with me EVERYDAY for the last 3+ years and not yet has it slowed down, even by the tiniest bit. I've never had any hardware or software problems nor any of the problems that people seem to be complaining about. (FYI-If you treat any computer like a piece of meat, it will break, regardless of who made it). I just wanted to write a positive review about this computer because I am still very happy with its performance (especially being 3+ years old) and do not intend on buying another laptop anytime soon.

I have had my T500 for 3+ years. It has performed flawlessly. The other posters here are obviously computer illiterate. Most of their problems stem from the fact that they don't know how to use a laptop nor the software. When I had a question for Lenovo Tech, I got through almost immediately and had my question answered. I would suggest that te other unhappy Lenovo users that posted here go back to a Corona typewriter, save yourself some grief.

Ive had my Y500 for LESS THAN 6 MONTHS and it already broke. Its now slow, wont restart, and or shutdown. And Lenovo made me pay $200 plus $30 for shipping to send it back for them to fix it. Before i bought the laptop the costumer service was great, nice and helpful, but now all they do is waste an hour of your time on the phone just to end up telling you that you have to buy more crap to get your computer working.

The ONLY complaint I have about this computer actually has nothing to do with the PC itself, at all. The operating system that came pre-installed is, unfortunately, Windows 8. While there are a lot of mixed feelings about the OS, I am settling the score on this end and letting you all know the facts: the laptop is GREAT, the operating system bytes. However, aside from the assault from a handful of minor annoyances, your overall experience will likely be pleasing. I bought this particular laptop for various reasons, most notably for online schooling. However, I DID take some extra time to review the processor and factory graphics for this machine and I am overly satisfied with the result(s). This is a very well-rounded machine at a very generous and affordable price. This review comes from personal experience and from the collective opinion of various friends and cohorts that have had the chance to sit down and explore this laptop with me. I hope this review helps to lighten the load of the decision for all of you!

Bought this at Best Buy after returning a less-than-ideal Asus. This laptop is capable of handling multiple tasks, including big programs, at once. It's fast, it works, it has a number pad; no complaints. Windows 8 sucks, but you can't buy a new laptop without it.

I bought this laptop for school and light gaming. As this isn't a gaming laptop per se, it does play the higher end games just fine. It took a while for me to get used to Windows 8. I installed Windows 7 as dual boot OS and it was flawless. I also set up my home network and remote desktop and again, no complaints. This machine successfully linked to my blu ray surround, xbox, 3 desk top pc's and even my TV! Great product!! Highly recommended!

It's a very nice computer with nice resolution. At first, I was put off by the fact that it contained Windows 8; however, I gave myself a chance to learn it, and now I think it's great!

I soon got Windows and Dell support for it, and am very satisfied.

Dell has a long reputation of not being able to keep their machines cool. After just 3 months, my computer would overheat to the point of automatically shutting off. I've had to take it apart, pull the heat sink off the CPU, only to find that there was almost no thermal paste, and what was left had the consistency of dried out gum. Also, the heat sink makes an arc, passing from the CPU over the graphics card part of the motherboard. The heat from the CPU just gets passed on to the graphics card, so my GPU is always about 15 to 20 degrees hotter than the CPU, which gets up to 80 degrees with just internet browsing! Horrible design.

Also, the battery dies after 2 months. What's the point of having a laptop that you have to haul around the power cord or else it dies after 5 minutes?

Dell lies about battery life. They said it would last 6 hours light use, 4-5 hours moderate use, and 3 hours with heavy use like gaming. Lie. When I first bought it, it lasted 1 hour with heavy use and 2.5 hours with light use. Then, like I said, the battery completely died after 2 months.

Never buy a dell, period. This is not a one off situation. Search the internet about dell overheating and dell skimping on hardware. You'll find lots of results.

Also do a search on how horrible their customer service is.

With regrets, I cannot recommend this laptop due to 2 key flaws:

1Problematic Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200 BGN card: worked intermittently at N levels(115 Mbps), for the most part at G levels (54 Mbps) , and occasionally not at all!

See Lenovo Forums for several comments and complaints about these Wifi issues, and it's lack of a hardware/software solution.

2Battery last for only about 4 to 4.5 hours unders regular use, about half of what Lenovo advertises.

These short comings are unfortunate, because the rest of the U410 is an excellent laptop for the money. I may have received a lemon that doesn't represent this product line, but

was dismayed to find so much negative commentary in the U410's forum on the Wifi issue.

Hi everyone, I have had this beautiful laptop for a week now. It is a quality built laptop (made of aluminum alloy) and is often compared to the mac due to its quality build. It has windows 8 which I am getting used to (coming from Windows Vista). I love the 3.0 USBs X2. You do not know how important having those is, especially when I am transferring data constantly for homework and projects for engineering. Extremely lightweight and portable which is important for me since I am moving between classes and carrying this on my backpack all dayneed something light. No "optical" drive, or CD ROM drive for playing movies/cd's/etcknow that when you are buying this since it is for making it lighter weight; one can work around this by burning the CD on another laptop and transferring via USB OR by buying an external CD ROM. I might need to purchase an external CD ROM since I desire to download photoshop... and there are 8 CD's. Good to know and be informed as you are deciding..

But, there is a design flaw in terms of the wi-fi. I was aware of an extremely common wi-fi issue coming from Lenova U series (includes this U410 and U310). People would complain that they have either 1) a disconnecting wi-fi internet problem 2) low signals until very close to wi-fi access.

My theory is that since the casing of the laptop is almost 100% thin aluminum, the metal casing is reducing the wi-fi strength. In other words, the wi-fi adaptor is like your cell phone trying to text inside a metal elevator casingreducing the signal or losing it frequently. Also like when you go through a tunnel. Maybe the design flaw is because they are almost mimicking the mac's metal chassis and they failed mimicking on one key part... like allowing an opening for the wi-fi antenna....

RegardlessMy love for this laptop will outweigh returning the laptopfor nowas I am currently purchasing an external wi-fi antenna USB. An antenna will test my hypothesis of whether it is the whole casing, which is the design flaw, or if the brand new network adaptor sucks (unlikely but possible).

Keep you posted.

Edit: 12/6/2012

Design flaw averted by simply adding on cheap external wifi adapter. Acts like an antenna to get better signals than many laptops. Yay!

I bought a CISCO Lynksis external wi-fi adapter for $49.99even though on best buy I saw it for half off. I needed internet ASAP, so I went for it (I can always order the cheaper version, then return with receipt for the current to save 25$ once it arrives)it works! I can even access my n network now. My download speed went from 0MB to 8.6MB; Upload speed from 0MB to 3.6MB on

I tentatively recommend getting this laptop and investing in a $10-50 external wifi.

Edit: 8/15/2013

DO NOT GET A CISCO Lynksis external wi-fi adapter!

It is beautiful until it snaps off. It's long extension knocks into any thing near it (my girlfriend, the wall, people walking by, etc.) Here is the review link:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R2R6U9F61SMVW0/ref=cm_cr_ryp_det?ie=UTF8&channel=ryp

I recommend a shorter, cheaper one.

I've had this computer in for repair twice in less than a year of owning it. Once for a bad hard drive and now for a bad motherboard. I've also had to restore it to factory twice because it wasn't recognizing my hard drive.

Honest reviews on Lenovo IdeaPad U410 43762CU 14-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Gray)

The new windows 8 64 bit operating system is not user friendly at all. In fact it sets us back to the times of Windows 3.1. The laptop itself has odd error messages popping up at various times, the lenovo printed material does little to help and their instructions for fixes on the online support are far from intuitive. I am a big user of Lenovo in the workplace and thought it would be great for home use. Just not the case, the support line and support documentation is not consumer friendly. In fact a number of the downloads they have that supposedly could fix my issues once loaded say that my hardware is not supported for this download. When I selected the download by first giving the model and OS operating on my laptop. All in all very dissatisfied.

I had been looking for some time for a good deal on a below $450 laptop running Windows 7 (not because I like running Windows, it is just outside my budget to purchase a Linux machine also). I always prefer Dell because of the quality and the excellent technical support (just try to get an HP computer repaired under warranty) but was having trouble breaking that $400 line. When I saw this M501R laptop offered for $369, I ordered it very quickly, just doing a quick scan of its capabilities and reputation on the net. 4 GB RAM, dual core processor (don't mind this moderately powerful AMD chip since I am not doing video processing or the like on this machine), 500 GB HD (5400 RPM is slow, but for Internet and document, photo processing it is fine), CD/DVD read and write (don't usually see this included on a below $400 machine), big (15.6 inch) screen with fairly nice resolution (hey, what do you want for this price)---not quite as precise display as the higher priced dispalys but my wife likes it fine for TV and movies anyway, Windows 7 Home Supreme (whatever---no one sells lower than "Supreme") keeps you in the MS monopoly plot for now, though I do recommend using OfficeLibre (used to be Open Office---free superior equivalent to Microsoft Office handles all document processing needs and is compatible with MS) as I did to avoid purchasing overprices MS stuff, and GIMP if you are an Adobe Photoshop user but don't have a spare grand lying around. Good audio---run the output into a laptop stereo stand. Windows Live Movie Maker is a plus with Windows 7, giving you pretty nice YouTube video production capability. Don't need an email application since GMAIL and HOTMAIL have great web interfaces. Jump on this!

I wanted something simple, without a bunch of bells and whistles, and definitely wanted Windows 7, not Windows 8. This is just right it fires right up, no waiting for a bunch of things to boot up... simple and efficient.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron 15 15.6" Laptop, AMD Dual-Core E-450 1.65GHz, 4GB

I thougt the low price and the fact that it had Windows 7 made it worth the risk of buying. Never again. With this computer, I have to be very careful when typing a message, even as I'm doing now, because the cursor jumps around to another spot in the message. And frequently, I mean very frequently, I had to troubleshoot to get it to connect to the internet when other wifi devices in the house worked just fine. Annoying. Also no number keys pad, but I could have lived with that. I rarely write negative reviews, but this was a very poor choice on my part. I'm going to save up and get a good one next time.

Update: The company has been very prompt in responding, and has said they would accept a return with a restocking fee (which is perfectly understandable since I'm sure they have to go into the computer to make sure you have deleted all your personal stuff, etc.). So the company seems wonderful, but not this particular laptop.

I purchased a Mini 9, black obsidian color, with 1.6 Ghz Atom processor, 16 GB solid state drive, 1 GB memory, external portable CD/DVD-RW, integrated webcam, GMA 950, wireless 802.11g, and Windows XP. This netbook boots up Windows XP very swiftly, plays NetFlix movies via wireless/DSL without a single screen blip or stutter, sound is quite good (headphones best when watching a movie or listing to music, very good stereo sound, and the built in speakers are adequate for regular browsing). DVDs and other media play excellently as well. My Firefox browser can be viewed full screen, and screen quality is good and easy on the eyes (very crisp and clear, good color). With a 4 GB Sandisk card I have 20 GB of disk space in total, which is more than enough for portability on vacation, to school, to the beach, the airport or on a plane, wherever I just need connection but don't need all the major attributes of a desktop system or bulky heavy 15 inch laptop. The battery lasts me 3 hours with my screen brightness down to mid level before my battery-low alarm sounds, and the battery charges very swiftly. The power cord is very lightweight and not bulky. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Too bad I couldn't give it zero star. If I could, I'd do it.

My experience with this laptop is similar to the ones in the other reviews. I had far too many issues with this laptop. TONS actually. From the motherboard going out, over heating, screen not turning on, wireless stopped working. I would have it fixed. Then 2 weeks later, SAME ISSUES. HP finally sent me a "refurbished" one, which worked for about 1 month, than the SAME EXACT THING....

I now actually have the DV6000 and I have not had one single issue. It's bigger, larger ram, and I'll have it until the wheels fall off, so to speak....

So, not out of hate or dislike for HP, but do NOT purchase this product, especially with no warranty, because I feel confident enough to say you will have similar issues and wish you went with your gut feeling...

The HP Mini 1000 is my very first mini netbook and I am loving it! It does take sometime to get use to the size after working with a 17" monitor laptop but in no time I was using keyboard and learning how to get around. Since it this so small compared to a normal laptop, you have to keep in mind that many of options, menus and listing cannot be seen without you opening and expanding more menus.

The unit is encased in a black and gray scroll metallic design which goes perfectly with the black interior. The keyboard is about 90% the size of a normal keyboard. The only negatives I can say about the design is the touch pad and I can't open the screen flat (180 degrees). The touch pad too wide which feels weird when trying to click the right and left buttons on either side. It does have a scroll feature on the touch pad which is definitely put to good use. It would be nice if you were able to open the screen back to 180 degrees, making the netbook totally flat when opened. This is a nice feature on my bigger laptop, it always made it easier to use when sitting on the couch or laying in bed.

When I was comparing different netbooks, I realized HP offered a faster processor, lighter weight (2.5 lbs). It comes with only one USB port but that's ok since I have a 4 port USB hub I use. It also has an SD/MMC card slot, Ethernet port, headphone/mic jack and a VGA port to connect the mini to a larger monitor. I get about 3 hours out of the battery life. Netbooks are basically designed for basic tasks such as web surfing, word/spreadsheets documents and some basic multimedia functions. The HP Mini CPU offers just the right amount of computing power to let you work without any flaws or glitches. The 10.1 monitor screen is bright, crisp and the colors are vivid. The The HP Mini 1000's 802.11b/g Wi-Fi card has a fast transfer rate and connectivity seems to have a large range. I do not loose the signal when moving from room to room in my two level home. The signal was constant and strong.

Since Netbooks are so slim and lightweight, they are not made to have a CD DVD drive. I purchased the Slim External Laptop Notebook Rewriteable CD and 8X DVD +/RW Double/Dual Layer Read/write DVD Drive USB 2.0 which is a perfect size. It fits perfectly in my Solo TCA511-4 Tech Collection Netbook Mini Instant Messenger Bag that also holds my Kensington SlimBlade Notebook Wireless Mouse with Nano Receiver as well as my car charger adapter all purchased separately. I would also recommend the Ohmetric 30123 Screen Protector and Mousepad for Netbooks.

Besides Windows XP Home Basic preinstalled, other preloaded software on the Mini 1000 is HP's webcam software, Roxio BackOnTrack (alternative for the system restore program), Windows Media Player 7 and Microsoft Works Suite. It has a one-year warranty and 24/7 toll free technical support.

We had been looking for an upgrade to our computer set for awhile (our "old" laptop had stickers that it was designed for Windows 98, ME, or 2000) and we checked out all of the box stores. However, when looking at any computer, realize what their extended warrenty plan covers, if it is fixed locally, and what you truly receive if something goes wrong and what outside supplier (refurb machine). This Asus come with a full 2-yr plan directly through them as part of the price!

The multi-drive rocks and is so fast. The full keypad makes a huge difference and the new i3 processor is VERY responsive. It has plenty of ports, tons of storage space (500 GB), and Windows 7 is a breeze to work with. The larger screen looks great with movies as well. I know that you can get a machine for less money (and we found a lot of them), but when I figured in what was offered and the reputation of Asus and the overall cost, it is actually less.

Hopefully, you get yours in as great a shape as mine was and as timely (only 2 days via super-saver). Also, it just LOOKS fast and slick.

ASUS was recommended by three computer geeks that I know and so instead of re-DELLing I thought I'd try the ASUS.

The first one I purchased was a total lemon. It starting crashing (blue screen)about a week after using it and their very helpful tech peeps couldn't figure out why. I sent it into their tech center and it was returned "repaired". Unfortunately it had the same problem so I sent it back to Amazon.

I loved the layout of the keyboard and the feel of it so a purchased another identical model (risky and unusual move). This one works great (so far, one month into it). I think the first one was just a lemon-it happens.

Both Amazon and ASUS made every effort to "make it right" and I'm satisfied!

Finally, it was mom's turn to get a new laptop. My husband and I own our own business, so I decided to get something to replace my pc at work (a real dinosaur) and I could also use at home. I was specifically looking for a 4GB/500GB hard drive with a numeric keypad, and this ASUS is great!! It has a sleek design and it's not too heavy for a 17". The screen is cyrstal clear, the keyboard is easy to use and has a nice response. The facial regonition logon is pretty cool, but it is sensitive to lighting. Downloads are fast and I can move between programs rapidly. The recovery discs (5) took several hours to create, but I didn't mind that. I did remove some of the pre-loaded software, and left the ones that looked interesting (just haven't had time to check all of them out). Since I am not a tech-savy individual, the e-manuel that comes loaded has already proven very useful. I have not tested the battery life yet, but know not to expect miracles. So far my ASUS has exceeded all expectations! I also like the 2yr global warranty (still hope I don't have to use it). If your looking for a larger laptop, this one rocks!!!

Honest reviews on ASUS K72F-A1 17.3-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Dark Brown)

I've had it for almost a month now and I love it. Has fast processor, speakers are good although there is no single button for volume you have to hit a fn key then volume up or down which is just out of reach to do it one handed. Multi motion finger pad is great but takes a little getting used to. Battery will last about 4 hours so bring charger with you for mobile use. Wide screen is great for watching DVDs or gaming.

I have had this laptop for a little over a month and am very pleased with it. I use it often as I am on the road a lot and it has not let me down. It is fast, stores a lot of programs and has not let me down. I saw higher priced laptops but they did not have all the features that this one does. I own a Apple for my desktop but I like the ASUS laptop better than the Apple Laptop.

The T430s is a solid business laptop that we use as the standard developer machine, usually with an SSD for the boot/OS drive, a larger SSD or a conventional HD in the drive bay for the data disk, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and the Core i7-3520M. You cannot go wrong with this machine.

There is a slight 1-star deduction from the rating because we have had repeated problems with the Lenovo-installed Micron SSDs on several machines. They require a firmware update that Lenovo made available only recently (in June 2013). Without it, the dreaded 2100 HDD initialization error will cause you downtime when you least expect it.

the Lenovo notebook with a inter I7 processer is quite fast. however, the hard disk is only 144G, which is too small to be convenient. A hard disk at least 500G, will be ok.

I was looking for a thin and light replacement of an old T42 ThinkPad for a few months and this was the best out of box hardware configuration I could find. And it can be easily upgraded. There is a very detailed description on the seller's web site, which offered the best price.

This is a great laptop and it dramatically improved everyday tasks such as Internet surfing, which was pathetically slow on the old one, which is very convenient otherwise. I would prefer to have the same old screen factor, but it seems like wide screens have become the only option even for business laptops. Also, the old Windows XP is much more convenient for me than Windows 7.
