Overall, it's okay considering the price but the keypad does not have a good quality in terms of touching/typing, no scrolling function in the touch pad, longer boot time than i expected (of course it's subjective).

i know it's a refurbished product. But i think they can be better in quality. When I got it, the laptop shell wasn't properly closed together. It's as if someone opened it but didn't bother to check if it's put back together nicely.

But the worst thing is that the recovery key button at the side was stuck inside, you couldn't use it. I tried fixing the button, but there was something wrong with the plastic that you couldn't touch the connector properly.

I would have returned it but I was leaving the US and needed a laptop, so I took and probably need to go to some repair centers to fix that...

And window 8 is definitely annoying, though it's not the laptop's problem per se.

It is a good laptop, cheap, good design, fast, very thin. Just I am not so satisfied with the camera, not even as good as my 5 years old one.

I am a Sony Vaio user big time. I bought this because it was a good deal at the time and I have to say I did not experience any of the things mentioned in the other review above but it is not sony quality either. As my first Hp it did not make a great impression. I guess when it comes to laptops anyway you get what you pay for. The functionality of it was fine but the track pad wore a lot faster then what I am use to and the letters on the keyboard are beginning to fade after less then 2 years just small things like that but to me it made a big impression.

I Received this as a gift brand new from my husband for Christmas. Within the first 30 days the hard drive crashed, luckily still under warranty, called hp they replaced the hard drive with a Toshiba new or refurbished hard drive. The screen went black and would not operate, so I took the battery out and put back in, HP wanted $ money for customer support on this when I called because it was now out of warranty. This Computer continues to freeze and hang & becomes very unresponsive constantly. I like my old hp better it is a lot faster and it was a 2007 model. This is constantly slow & unresponsive and lost all patients with it & only being not even 2 yrs old. I will probaly not purchase another HP again. I should of took this back to the store from day one. Very disappointing to have constant freeze up's and saying to you the page is unresponsive do you want to wait or kill the pages annoying for windows 7..

I bought this laptop couple days ago and am very satisfied with it. I thought the design might look ugly just looking at the pictures, but the design is very nice.

Anyways here are the pros and cons

Pro: nice sleek design, comfortable keyboard, good performance, reasonable graphic card, cheap price (at least based on my price), light weight, and does not get very hot

Cons: lack of bluetooth (which i hardly use), lack of some ports such as memory card reader (which again I hardly use), sound quality is not very good, arrow keys kinda smooshed together with the rest of the keypads (not really a problem), lack of hoktkeys (which means you have to hold the "fn" button to control the volume and etc)

I really think this is a decent laptop for decent price (unless they raise the price up). Even though there seems to be a lot of cons, i think those are really minor issues (at least for me) and the pros outweight the cons. So if you are look for a decent laptop for a cheap price, I recommend this product.

Initially I was going to go for a more expensive laptop, and then I stumbled upon the Samsung q430 in a best buy as I was browsing that section of the store. Typically I'm wary of any pc's that are in the local stores as they usually get the watered down versions of laptops where you can find the better, more advanced models online.

While not on sale anymore, it was still relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of the other laptops that were no faster. icore5 2.4 GHZ processor, 4GB of memory, 500GB hard drive, 512 MB Nvidia video card, built-in SD memory card reader, DVD-burner...what's not to like!

Also, while it's easy to overlook something as simple as keyboard layout...it was one of the bigger selling points for me in finding a new laptop. I used to have a powerbook titanium G4 which had a nice keyboard layout, and even now the mac book pros have in my opinion the best keyboard design available in any laptop. The q430's keyboard is quite similar, with the raised, solid, black keys that are responsive, spaced out nicely and provide nice feedback. So once I made the decision to go with a non-mac laptop, I was hoping I could find something comparable in the keyboard area. And the Samsung q430 I think is the closest you can get to having a mac book pro keyboard on a pc laptop. I love this keyboard perhaps with the exception of a smaller than usual shift key, I love it.

If there was anything I would change about the laptop, perhaps it would be to not have a glossy screen as sometimes the reflection can be annoying. But nevertheless the screen is bright and strong when I need it to be and I notice it less and less.

Wireless works great, 3 usb ports, decent built in webcam, fairly lightweight and has HDMI out! I have even dropped it once already, transport it a lot and everything seems to be going smoothly with no issues. For the price, and even price aside, I think you can't go wrong. I truly feel this is a solid laptop, especially when coming from the world of sturdy, apple quality laptops previously.

It's a winner!

I have been trying this laptop for two days now and I am very satisfied by it.

The Good:

1. Light for its size. I had a Dell XPS M1330 before and this feels lighter than that even though its a 14 incher !

2. Fast processor. The turbo boost on its Core i5 really makes it snappy for everyday work and also for photo and video editing. The new Office 2010 runs smoothly on it.

3. Looks expensive. The aluminium on its lid and around its keyboard give the product a distinct look.

4. Graphics management. The intel HD and nVidia 310m graphics switch seamlessly according to the programs needs. Runs 1080p HD video (native and flash) smoothly without any hitch.

5. The Keyboard is this laptop's strong point. Its chiclet style and good to type on.

6. Heat management is great on this laptop. The CPU and graphics card temperature didn't exceed 65C even after several hours of (moderate) use. The outside also felt cool.

The Bad:

1. Touchpad could have been better. The scrolling seems incosistence. (I am not sure if the touch pad or Windows 7 is to blame)

2. The battery life could have been better. It is giving me 3.5-4hrs on a charge with moderate use.

The Verdict:

Its a steal. I was looking at the Envy 14 before this but with this laptop's price, features and looks, I am glad I got it.

Honest reviews on Samsung Q430 14-Inch HD LED Laptop (Aluminum surface with Black

READ TO LEARN ABOUT SOLVING ISSUES REGARDING THE PROBLEMS ON SOME REVIEWS.

This laptop had all the necessary components you would need. The design, processor, and graphics are the best in its price range. Considering that I was able to buy it for $649 including the $100 Amazon promotional code. The Intel i5 IMO is the best processor since it balances battery life and performance unlike i3(lacks performance) and i7(short battery life). On the graphics, It can play most of the latest games at low-medium settings only. Design...just look at the pictures. Everything else are just average for a laptop (screen, spekers, etc.) The things that bothers me is the Wireless Card and the wrong description of Amazon about having a Fast-Start feature.

Pros: Intel i5-460m, Nvidia 310m!!(laptops with dedicated graphics are worth $700+), Design (looks like a Mac)

Cons and Solutions:

*The Wireless Card is below average and as what some reviews says that it disconnects occasionally is actually true. It happened to me but I was able to solve that problem. To repair it update your driver by downloading it on wikidrivers not on samsung site

*The Samsung Fast Start Feature is not available on this laptop. I tried downloading the software but it says that this laptop does not support it. Is there anyone who can confirm this?

*Trackpad issues, not true. Mine work perfectly except for the two finger scrolling which is not important since there is a traditional scrolling at the side that works fine. Some reviews says that the mouse is too sensitive, that is because the Momentum feature is turned on. Configure your mouse settings to remove undesired features.

*Battery Life sucks! 2-3 hours of battery life on power saving mode. Wifi-on, Lowest brightness, and internet browsing. If you don't mind staying near a power outlet this laptop is fine for you.

*Issues in streaming videos like youtube during full screen, don't use the update in samsung site. Search for Nvidia 310m driver 266.58, it will solve your problems. If your too lazy too search just look for the link in the comments.

To sum it up, this laptop is worth $650-$750(considering specs and quality) based on my several months of researching and comparing. I'm telling you right now that I did the best way of knowing the worth of a laptop and this one is a really good deal if your budget is really tight. I even checked the prices during Black Friday but no deal matched the "Specifications to price ratio" of this laptop if it would remain at the $600-$650 range. I definitely recommend this laptop for Students with tight budget and desires average gaming capabilities. Btw, I owned this laptop since December 16 2010 and reliability test is still ongoing.

I bought this yesterday while it was on lightening deal (699) with free 1 day shipping. And it arrived today at noon.

I've bought and sold (on ebay) many laptops due to my gadget addiction. So I think I know a thing or two about laptops.

For the people who are considering this. Things that I couldn't find it from other reviews.

(i) it's pretty big. The picture on amazon makes it look like 13 in notebook at best. But when you actually take it out of the box, it's pretty large. I've owned laptops from 10in to 15in laptops before. By far, this 14 in (wide) is very nice. 13 in macbook was even small for me. And 4*3 15in laptop was just not right. So this is bigger than what the pictures make you think.

(ii) Feel? Cover is blackish graphite aluminum and inside (palm rest too) is brushed aluminum. It's not too heavy (compared to macbook pro 15in, this feels lighter). This look elegant. Does this match up to Macbook pro? Probably not. I just don't like latest gen black keyboard macbook pros. Know that this samsung's bottom is plastic. Which I don't mind. If you have macbook pros, you know it's gonna get scratched up in a month. I like this computer.

(iii) keyboard: I hate thinkpad keyboard (some maniacs love it but I just can't understand that. How can you like buttons that are stiff and require more strength to type on? I never went back to Thinkpad). I love dell keyboards (that of notebooks). They give you not to soft but spring response which makes typing easier. So if you know some of the keyboards, this Samsung is in between thinkpad (talking about feeling, not the way it's made) and dell. That should clarify the feeling.

*Someone said in a review that these keyboards are rubbery and he likes it, but there is no rubbery feeling. This is as plastic as it gets. That review was kinda misleading to me.

(iv) I used it one day. Battery came at 60% (charged), so it took about 1hr to reach 100%. And it took about 2hrs to run it down to 10%. It's not great of course. But these days, schools & hotels all provide multijacks so no problem.

(v) cord; no one talks about this probably because they are not in the context of school. I'm doing my Doctoral next year. So length of powercord matters. It's not long. I've seen some wacky long ones to shortest (macbooks). This thing is about macbook (or pro)'s powercord. It's not long. And for students, you just need to get seats near the power outlet.

(vi) screen. it's cover to cover glass. So it looks and feels nice. I never had screen like this. But this is better. It's like iphone without cover. Think that way. iphone in INCASE and bare iphone. If you know what I'm talking about. There is difference. Shade or cover around the screen (by incase) makes screen look different. This is a plus. Very nice. Resolution is not super (my eyes are used to iphone4 or super amoled of phones). Don't expect that from this. But it's standard.

(vii) fast start (not cold boot, but from sleep to wake up; that's what samsung calls it); it's pretty fast. Definitely a plus.

(viii) Sound; is pretty big. Just watching youtube but had to turn it down.

(ix) fan noise; again something important for students who study in libraries. This thing makes audible fan noise when you install programs etc. But in normal MS word typing situation, it does not. So This unit won't make others mad in the library.

*forgot to tell you about touchpad. it's small compare to macbooks. Actually tiny. But it's ok. This thing doesn't have Bluetooth. So I again have to pay for Nano receiver mouse or something.

(x) The reason why I went Samsung this time for the first time was because Samsung makes memories and LCD/LEDs. Never owned Korean made laptops until now. Tired of Taiwan made. Sick of American made (I had multiple Dells and a HP. Don't know why I keep going back to Dell though it breaks down usually). Sorry. Time to go Korean. When Apple advertises that they make both hardware and software, it's misleading. They make body and assemble parts themselves. But you will find their harddisk is from toshiba. LCD from Samsung etc. This unit (just checked) has Toshiba hard, Atheros wireless. Both I hate. Both gave me failures before so I remember. This time the hard disk does not make as much as noise like old harddrives made by Toshiba. But you can still hear it. Wireless is so far so good. Don't know about memory and LCD. I have two LCD tvs. Samsung and Vizio. Someone said all LCDs are the same? No. It's not. That's why I wanted to try Samsung.

*i5 vs i7. I have i7 XPS Dell desktop. I can't feel the difference. All these processors, to me, don't make much difference. I bet I am not feeling difference between XP/celeron and this premium one. So don't worry about i7 and how it's better for multitasking. Also I did 1080p youtube. It take time to load but once it's loaded, there is no hiccup like in netbooks.

(xi) Windows 7 is a great OS. I've had everything from Linux, Jolicloud (same as Chrome OS; almost), Vista, XP, Apple OS X..this thing is not bad. Not bad. Start up time is fast around 20-30 sec. People; don't believe Apple never crash myth. Apple freezes all the time. Just go to mac store. "genius" appointment and see how many units they bring back to repair. If you are like some people (mac is blacktie, pc is jean), I have nothing to say. It's all about looks for some people. But you don't have to type on macbook pros to make it bestsellers. You know who are real deals? People who have macbook pro17. Most others just buy it just to try out or to feel better about themselves. (I went Mac after Vista; that thing is just a horror story isn't it. As hardware improves everything has to be faster. But somehow they make more memory consuming OS. So after 10 years, with i5 i7 processors,pc is still slow and lagging. Right? You don't feel much difference between your pc from 8 years ago and now; only thing you can feel is the hard disk size. That thing is a good. 500GB? Wow that's great. My first toshiba had 5gb hard disk) Remember, John Farve writes on a dell and became youngest speech writer for president.

Nor I suggest you buy cheap pcs. You get what you pay for. I think this unit is reasonable. I probably will sell this after 1.5 years (that's how long I keep laptops). But so far, this is not bad as a pc. it's 699 now! What? After selling this as a 4hr lightening deal, amazon dropped the price down on all pcs since yesterday. If that were the case, I "could" have gone to 15.6 in samsung. But soon I have to travel to Orlando to study and I don't regret.

This is a good buy. Buy it while it lasts (don't know about this seller, notice it's not amazon selling this now). Not bad. Not bad Samsung.

Although this laptop makes a few sacrifices in quality for the sake of bringing you affordable power, it is really a great little, or should I say BIG, laptop.

First off I want to address the overheating issues that others mentioned. I originally thought that my G72 was overheating too. It would randomly slow down during games sometimes and it didn't seem to me to be linked to how hard it was working. I would usually just restart the laptop and it would be fine. Then I noticed that it seemed to only do it when I played games after waking it up from sleep mode. I stopped using the sleep and haven't had the problem once in literally months. I'm not sure exactly what's causing it but it definitely seems to be linked to the sleep. It is probably a driver problem or something. This laptop in fact has great heat management. I have played Shogun 2 Total War on max tubo gear(the little overclocking program that comes with it) and on max setting(almost) for literaly hours at a time without any overheating problems.

The Pros: This laptop has great power for the money. Even today the GTX 260M GPU is no slouch. You can run games like Oblivion, Medieval 2 Total war, Bioshock, Batman Arkham Asylum and other such games on full setting with no problem at all. The newest game I have played on it is Shogun 2 Total War. I run it with the best settings except for some of the fancier shadow effects, I don't use blur effects and only use 4x anti aliasing. It does very well. The larger battles slow down a bit but over all it's very playable. The laptop is also pretty cool looking with the lights and stuff. It has decent battery life for the type of laptop(about 2hrs). I mean let's face it, for gaming laptops the batery is just to get you from one outlet to the next.

The Cons: This laptop isn't perfect though. I only gave it 5 stars to ballance out the other two reviews that I thought were misunderstanding the heating problem. My biggest complaint with this laptop is the screen. It's not terrible. The refresh rate is good. You don't get streaks and blurs when the action is going. The problem is the colors. I've just seen better color ballancing on other screens. The other problem is it's a little picky about the angle you look at it. The construction of the laptop is also a little on the plasticky side if you know what I mean. I guess you have to skimp somewhere to get the price down.

Over all I was very pleased with this laptop. Had it for almost 2 years now and it's still running great. The screen flickers sometimes but I think that's just due to a dirty connection. When I bought it it was $1000 but even now $670 is a good price for this machine.

I have purchased 2 of these systems and let me tell you it is a stable rig. First off, the 1600 x 900 resolution and the 1GB video card were enough to get some of the best games to run on High. I have moved on but the two friends I gave them to are still using them and they are running smoothly. The CPU is a bit slow for me but a Duo 2.7 GHz is enough to get the job down. I was able to play Diablo 3 and star craft 2 on ultra settings and even arma 2 ran okay. If you are looking for a stable gaming rig that you want on the go and do not feeling spending an arm, leg and 2 children on an alienware, this is your choice. I used this when I was in college when I had long waits between classes and for LAN parties with my friends.

Best Deals for Asus G72GX RBBX05 Notebook PC

I've had this laptop for over a year and it's my favorite thing ever.

This laptop runs almost everything. There is some lagging on say Civilizations V and GTA IV, but you can overclock this easily. On that, definitely get a cooling fan for this laptop, as it really helps to increase the life and play of this laptop. Asus makes very quality products for a relatively low price. A definite must.

I rate this a 5/5, but there is one thing that will have to be attended to either right away or months down the line. Once it happens, it requires hardware work every couple of months. The cord for the laptop (I forget the name of it on the top of my head) was made too short and Asus had it designed to be held with simple hard scotch tape. When it disconnects, all you get is a white screen when the brightness is on max and black when it's not. There is a video to fix it, so it's not a complete loss.

Besides that, a very customizable laptop (two hard drive bays!) and runs so many games smoothly. Of course most likely outdated now (technology moves quick) but it's still good enough to play even new games at the best settings (Ultra settings Skyrim is possible even without overclocking).

Also, rip off the shields on both sides for the USB ports and Headphone/Mic jacks. They're annoying.

Honest reviews on Asus G72GX RBBX05 Notebook PC

This laptop is amazing! It powers through all the games in my Steam Library. The Nvidia GTX 260m is very fast and over clocks nicely providing for excellent frame rates. The 500GB hard drive is very roomy with plenty of space for all my 100GB+ Steam folder. This laptop is a true mobile gaming beast! Buy it now, you won't be disappointed! The battery life is a bit short but that's normal for computer of such processing magnitude.

I bought it year and half ago and it's still running as new. For gaming laptop under 1000$ I consider it very good. Very powerful for that time it could run majority of games on high settings. A little bit heat doesn't bother me if you put it on the table. I also connect it to 24inch monitor if I need a big screen to work. Plenty of memory let me work with internet without any delay.

I also purchased this laptop at Walmart like the other poster, but my experience has actually been pretty positive. I give it 4 stars not because it can compare to a more expensive computer but because, considering the price, it's actually a good purchase for any one looking for a computer to browse the web, watch movies, listen to music, all of the normal activities. If you're looking for a computer capable of handling high-end games, video editing, or more intensive programs then you're not looking for a laptop under $300. Everyone else can get by just fine with this product.

Works flawlessly. Be careful of some confusion in reading reviews online. There are a lot of Compaq CQ57 out there. This is a CQ57-489WM (big difference! This is a Dual Core, not single or CoreDuo). Granted it is not a gaming computer but for the same price as a small net-book its the way to go. It Runs HP drivers and user friendly HP updating programs (which I have on the rest of my computers and love). It comes with 2GB RAM but is upgradable to 8GB for about $40. Which I highly recommend. Never an issue in the last 4 months I have owned it, and it is used extensively daily.

I bought this laptop at Walmart. It's a great laptop when it works. However, it hibernates itself randomly and sometimes very frequently. I have hibernate set to never and it still does it. It hibernates plugged in and on the battery.

Days like today, when it's hibernating every 5 to 20 minutes, I want to pitch the thing off a bridge.

Honest reviews on Compaq Black 15.6" Presario Cq57-489wm Laptop Pc with AMD E-300

I was on Maui with a new Toshiba laptop in the $400 price range I had bought from Best Buy. The hard drive died within a few months and so I needed a quick replacement since no Best Buy on Maui and I couldn't go grab my other laptop at home on another island. I swung into Walmart and picked up the cheapest laptop I could find, it was this model. But low and behold, the thing is reliable. Surfs the web no problem, plays my itunes collection no problem, does Word processing no problem, watch Youtube no problem, burn cds and dvds no problem. It can play old video games no problem. For more modern games thats what my high def tv and xbox 360 is for along with my ipad. Long story short, great computer for someone who doesn't need all the fancy bells and whistles (of course dvd players were once considered whistles in laptops before). Plus its old fashion. When the battery dies out, I can cheaply pop it out and get a replacement so its low maintence, unlike my Apple stuff I got to send back and pay at least a $100 to replace the battery now days. I would say if you don't know what computer you want get this one cause it will do what you need. The biggest crime in computing is always being enticed to buy a $1000+ computer when you don't use any of the functions. Unless you're making movies, playing video games, or need some super high tech program for work or your hobby, stick with what does the job unless you're into fashion, then I would advise spending it on Apple Macbook pro or Air and staying away from those Ultrabooks until they make better ones.

This is a good laptop for the average computer user. It gets over six hours of battery life in the right computer settings. It runs minecraft pretty well (not perfect though). The sound on it is very good through headphones. The speakers are ok but you would expect that from a laptop. The reason for only four stars though is this model has the infamous Ralink 5390 802.11 b/g/n wireless adapter in it which has pretty poor connectivity I had low and intermittent connection even being ten feet from the router. I have ordered a new wireless card it is an intel I am hoping that it is compatible with this notebook. I highly recommend intel networking equipment.

Slim design, sleek keyboard with numeric pad, and fast processor make up this wonderful laptop. Powerful video graphics does HD with ease but it doesn't play new core games, this is NOT a gaming laptop, the graphics card is wonderful but any game past Oblivion will most likely fail. The cons are not aplenty, but are there. When maximizing the use of the processor, be aware the fan will become hot. Because of the computer's sleek design the fan is not that powerful. This is easy to get around on when you buy a good cooling pad with a fan, preferably one that arches to allow for the small under-belly fan to access air. My only other complaint is the graphics card not being able to play new games... but hey, you get what you pay for. If any one is worried about the 4 gigs of RAM, don't fret, go to crucial.com and follow the on screen instructions to determining what upgrade you want to buy (up to 8 gigs of RAM for this laptop). The website even has an excellent video demonstrating how to install the memory yourself, saving around $50. Anyway, I have 8 gigs of RAM coming today, I will update soon to tell how that goes.

All in all, get this computer if you want excellent for the price... there are what, 2 left in stock?

I've had this laptop for about 16 or 17 months now and I have yet to find a single issue. These closest I've found is when you are crunching a lot of video memory, it can get warm, but using a spacer to give the fan more room fixes that. I run hard photo editing software and autodesk. I am still at the factory 4gb of memory, but am now thinking of going to 8gb.

This is the perfect laptop for the student, the traveling businessman, or for the limited space of an apartment or bedroom. I know that I sound like I'm from Acer, but I'm not and I've bought a ton of stuff from Amazon and I don't leave many reviews, but I needed to leave one for this machine.

Buy it and you won't regret it. Oh, and use common sense.

Amazon merged the two models into one page and fixed most of their info, but they have the battery life listed as nine hours in one place and six hours in another; the six hour figure is correct (thanks, Philip!).

Also, the cheaper model (T115D-S1120) has a single core 1.6 GHz processor, not a dual core 1.5 GHz processor. This is currently still incorrect on one part of the page.

I have a 16 inch Toshiba dual core/4gb ram I purchased a year ago and loved it, but I wanted something mobile with a longer battery life. I love Toshiba quality and decided they can have my business again. I was looking around for a netbook but then this came out. I went with the dual core just in case I needed to photoshop and watch movies on it later. I've looked at 10.1 inch screens, and they were just so tiny and have to scroll a lot when when reading online. 11.6 inch screen is perfect, I don't notice the screen size being a problem. Screen is beautiful, watching HD shows and movies look fine and play fine.

I have had this for about week and have done mostly web browsing and haven't ran it through the ringer with memory hog programs life photoshop yet but it feels just as fast as my 16 inch dual core with 4 gb of ram. I usually get over 4.5 hours battery life on bright settings but I put it on eco mode which dims the backlight and I get 5+ hours.

I watch youtube videos with ease but speakers are not the best which doesn't matter since I use headphones on it. Hulu, Facebook, you name it all work just as fast as my laptop. Itunes works great.

One thing was common in reading netbook reviews was that you can't expect it to replace your regular laptop or desktop. I honestly think this product can, especially if your an average user who watches youtube, listen to music, web browse. I didn't see the need to upgrade Ram yet and probably won't so I don't sacrifice more battery life.

One complaint is that is does get warm when I'm using it constantly but not like it is burning my leg warm. I'm used to the track pad but prefer using a wireless mouse. I picked up another logitech wireless mouse which works perfectly. If your thinking of getting a netbook, or just a laptop that has a long battery life but don't want to sacrifice power, this is it.

I have been skeptical about purchasing a netbook instead of a traditional laptop for a computer for my wife to use around the home. Man am I glad I plucked down the extra $100.00 over other good netbooks. This thing is a powerhouse! About the only difference between this netbook and 2 year old laptop technology is the missing optical drive, on the other hand unlike many netbooks it comes loaded with Windows 7 premium instead of starter (A major problem in other netbooks). Another dynamite plus in this netbook is the included HDMI port to hook up your computer directly to a HDTV and watch Hulu, amazon on demand, netflix, or other streaming broadcasts. The laptop is as fast as any other middle of the line laptop, which makes it exceptionally fast for a netbook.

The keyboard did take me about 20 minutes to get used to, and while some review sites give the buttons a big thumbs down, they are okay after using them for a while. If I am using this netbook on a desk I am likely to hook up a wireless mouse to it.

The included battery lasted 5 1/2 hours using it for the Internet and word processing.

When I ran itunes, MS Word, Firefox, and a few other smaller programs the computer did not have any trouble with lag time. Boot time is a bit slower than I would like, but no complaints given it is a netbook. Like I said, I feel like it performs as well as any new laptop from a few years ago.

The weight is perfect to carry around the house, which my wife needs during the day with a newborn. It is very thin and very light.

I did not have any difficulty with scrolling while looking at websites I have yet to run into one that has to be scrolled horizontally.

If you are looking for a netbook, but are put off by tiny keyboards, slow response times, slightly too small screens, and can spend a little extra, this is my favorite netbook out of the many I spent time researching and playing with at Best Buy and Walmart.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite T115D-S1120 LED TruBrite 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

I just received my S1125 a couple of days ago and I'm very pleased with it. I've looked hard at the various models in the area between a netbook and a full-sized laptop, and I think this is one of the best machines of that type. The display is gorgeous; 1366 x 768 at 11.6" is really nice and the Radeon 3200 graphics chip is excellent. I bought it along with the Toshiba external DVD drive and additional 2GB of RAM; so far both are working very well. As far as I'm concerned, this thing is the perfect size: it's small and light enough to carry it around, but it's still big enough to have a usable screen and keyboard. I've used a Dell Mini 10 netbook with an Atom N270 CPU, and although it worked, I wasn't happy with the performance.

So far I've added 2 GB of RAM (it took less than a minute; anyone can do this), resized the primary Windows partition, installed Ubuntu 9.10 in parallel (dual boot), and started playing with it. I hooked it up to my 1080p 46" HDTV via HDMI and watched an HD streaming episode of Battlestar Galactica. It looked great, and this machine had no problem keeping up with the HD stream from Amazon. I removed some of the crapware (Norton being a prime example) and installed Microsoft Security Essentials (free anti-virus from MS...it's actually pretty good. In fact, it's better than most of the alternatives; I've tried them all.) The keyboard is pretty easy to use; the touch pad works fine, but I usually use a wireless USB mouse if I'm doing much work with a laptop. I've only just started playing with the webcam, but the pictures I've taken so far are grainier than I expected. I haven't had an integrated webcam before, so maybe this is the way they usually look.

Windows 7 is actually pretty nice, though I prefer linux in general. If you're going to buy a machine with Windows 7, go for one like this with Win 7 Home Premium rather than Starter Edition. Starter is a sad, crippled version, one with which you won't be happy.

i've had the T115D-S1125 for a couple of weeks now and love it. Screen is sharp, the black case isn't as bad a finger print magnet as i thought it might be. keyboard is good to type on and hdmi out is very useful. Few minor things stop me from giving 5 stars. Battery life is around 4 hours or less when doing more intensive operations like playing video. when using hdmi out to display to a tv, video stutters a little mainly on hulu, my macbook pro is fine as a comparison. trackpad takes a bit of getting used to and i made a lot of accidental clicks till i got used to it. Overall really like the laptop 4 hours battery life is still very good, love the screen and small size, surprised how good performance of the laptop and windows 7 are together and find i use this now for my main laptop in preference to my macbook pro.

Since my previous laptop is now technically in two pieces due to the plastic bezel of the monitor breaking, I wanted a laptop that could withstand wear and tear of daily use without compromising on flexibility. After looking at the other brands around the same price point, I felt the VAIO NW was superior in terms of the design and durability. Having used it for a few days now, I am very happy with this product and I would recommend it to others.

I purchased the sony vaio VGN-NW270F. Initially I was happy with it and the blue-ray. Shortly however I noticed when I charged the laptop to 100% and turned the laptop off,24 hours later the battery would be at 90% or less. This issue is common on ALL newer vaios, google it if you do not believe me. Search "Sony Vaio battery drain". Sony will not release a "fix" for it,in fact in one customer service report they describe this as a feature. The battery life never exceeds 2.5 hours either (4 hours listed). I jumped the gun big time buying this laptop. Do your research, now I will take a 85% hit in return price and need a new laptop for school starting January.

After comparing all the laptops in the BestBuy store, We pick this laptop for the BEST.

Not only elegant design, beautiful body, but it also has a very sharp and bright lcd screen for the built-in Blu-ray Drive!

In short, You can't go wrong for the price of this laptop!

Sony will become a big guy in the computer market!

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO VGN-NW270F/S 15.5-Inch Silver Laptop (Windows 7 Home

After playing around with every brand of laptop at various stores it was clear to me that Sony does design better than anyone but mac. The overall feel is better than the competition. The track pad has a unique texture of raised dots that keeps fingers from sticking, and is very precise. The key board is well proportioned, the space between keys allows for more accurate typing than many of the newer keyboards that feel like one giant flat key.

The screen is beautiful, it is glossy so it looks mirror like, but suffers from minimal reflection. It is 780P which is fine when you are looking at a 15.5in screen. Bright, rich colors are refreshed quickly in fine detail. Bluerays played on a 1080p TV looked perfect via the hdmi output, zero hesitation.

The speakers are good. Average volume, but sound great.

The box is slightly lighter than similarly priced laptops, the textured waves look nice and do not collect finger prints. The folding action is smooth and firm.

Microsoft word opens in about 2.5sec.

The battery life seems less than advertised, 2.5hrs is about all I get. It could use better controls for volume, one must use FN>Fx keys to adjust volume/brightness.

I'm happy, at $715 it was worth the extra $50-75 over similarly configured laptops, (none of which had a blueray payer). I'd rather have the Sony design than $75 worth of extra gigawatts.

I am a self proclaimed apple fan (not a fanboy) -as I a have an imac, macbook air, 2 iphones, and too many ipods to mention and all I can say is that this is a sweet computer I always keep a pc around b/c I dont like to run parallels or other programs to run on my mac --and I usually use a netbook just for size. I saw this at bestbuy (699) and was intrigued. The specs are awesome and the fact that it has a bluray drive with HDMI out sealed the deal. So far so good -it's really fast -at least compaired to my old sony viao w netbook (I tried the new viao x but that was slow as molasis too actually took a 15% hit -200 bucks to return it). It is pretty nice looking -I kinda dig the texture. It is really heavy -I would not use this to carry around all the time (macbook air is much better for that) -but overall this is a great computer at a great price (sorry amazon it is cheaper at best buy and not even on sale there)

This came close to being a 5 star purchase. It's a fast quad core system with 8G of memory, bought here for $999. The graphics are not top notch (and that drags the Windows Experience Index down to 5.4), but for my purposes it's fine. I needed 4 fast cores, and this delivers.

The keyboard, though, is frustrating beyond belief. It's about full size, and the touch is ok, but some genius at HP decided on three massive blunders:

1) the up and down arrow keys are half size, and difficult to hit, unless perhaps you're a six year old girl with unusually small hands. I'm an adult male with large hands.

2) The function keys, F1 through F12, are a mainstay in many, many software applications. F5 is the "do it" key in a wealth of software refresh in most browsers, compile and run in many IDEs. F3 is "search again" in many tools. F1 is often Help. I use them all the time.

For some reason, HP decided to make those keys half-height, and do double duty. If you want F3, you have to type Function-F3. The F3 key, by itself, brightens the display. I have no idea why the manufacturer thought that brightening the display was a more common operation than searching for something; I only know that after fifteen years of using function keys as the quick way to get work done, I don't like having them buried under a bunch of keys to adjust brightness and volume.

3) The insert key has been given the same treatment as the F keys. The key combination for Insert is Function-PrintScreen. And it's also half-height. As someone who for years has used control-insert, shift-insert and shift-delete to move text around, it's unusable. I'm forcing my fingers to learn control-C, V and X instead, and I don't like it.

For a laptop that's clearly aimed at power users you don't need 4 cores and 8G of memory for most users the decision to cripple power user shortcuts is a very odd one. The simple solution is to plug in a USB keyboard with a key layout that you like, but that's not a great solution for a portable laptop.

Otherwise a fine machine. Not much bloatware, over 600G of disk free when you get it, adequate USB, decent screen.

This is so nice to get my hands on! The finger printer reader makes it so I dont have to remember any passwords anymore! The graphics are great, and the widi is very easy to set up (with not stutter). And did I say it was fast? WOW! The only complaint I had about it was that the graphics card was toast on arrival but was taken care of by HP and got a 5 yr warranty for my troubles.

This laptop is everything they say it is and more...I got it 3 weeks ago and love it....the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the Wifi.....I am 21 feet from my rounter and could not keep a connection for more then 20 minutes at a time....so I bought a cheap wifi booster for 30 dollars (plug and play booster)....its been a few days and everything is perfect...no lost connections .. if your a wifi junkie beware, this may not be the laptop for you....aside from the wifi this laptop is fun, its fast (really fast) and it looks great...I love the fingerprint password thing and all the little extras...the "quick start" button is pretty cool....its like an extra power switch that you can push and be online in about 35-40 seconds.. ( I don't need it, but it works and its nice to know I can if I wanted to be)....for under a 1000 dollars its a great laptop....

I purchased this computer from Dell Outlet (as a refurb...find a dell coupon and get a better deal). I went with the standard i5 processor and the intel hd 4000 video. I have added 8gb of RAM, a Samsung 840 series ssd, and windows 8 pro. I realized after owning it for a few months that something was wrong with it. I'm the type to re-install an operating system when I get a computer, I hate the bloat. After doing some reading this is what I realized:

-If you do a complete reformat and install of windows...you need to initially tell it not to download updates or drivers automatically (you can prevent the need to do this if you clone your drive to a new one, or if you use the windows install without full format. Apparently Windows 8 preserves the diver structure, which is new to me.) . If you let it do this, windows will grab the "best" drivers it can find, and will install drivers that are far from optimal from the hardware company, and usually leaving you only half working.

-After you boot and activate windows (with expectation that firmware is up to date) go to dell and grab all drivers at once, install in the following order:

-Intel chipset drivers (restart)

-Other Intel software, video, sound, networking (all system hardware drivers..restart)

-Dell software you want (I like the Dell quickset software. It has some good power saving features that are great. I also suggest the touchpad, and

audio software)

-Activate your TPM in bios (this is unnecessary, but I had issues with the rest of the process if TPM was active before this, Bitlocker is great)

-Activate windows 8 quick start in bios (SSD + Quickstart gets me to my login within 4 seconds from cold boot!)

I know this is a bit complicated compared to other typical setups, but for some reason, and Im guessing that it has part to do with Dell power optimization in Dell specific drivers, this is what works. Dell needs to make this clear, but they have failed to. On this front, the product fails. But, once properly setup, this laptop is AMAZING.

Pros:

-The Upgraded Warranty. I even got this with my refurb model. It is a huge jump ahead of Dells regular service. It is easiest to take care of any Dell service issue through the chat service they provide. Ive had two experiences since I bought it. 1. They send a DVD with windows on it (no dvd drive), and I wanted to install my SSD. I called them, they furiously apologized, commented on my computer prowess for installing a new drive (I hear this is part of the "xps service" ;), and then over nighted a USB key with windows 8 Pro (upgrade from the home that came with it). After finding that they would do this, Id kinda suggest everyone who gets a DVD request a USB key as soon as they get the computer. 2. When installing the SSD, I lost a screw...I chatted with them, they commented on my computing prowess again (which I love ;), and then over-nighted me a new set of screws (like all the screws for the device). I believe they may have seen the light and are trying to return to the Dell roots of great service, which was lost along the way some where in India.

-QUALITY build! This machine is a block of aluminum. I would actually say that (except for the keyboard) this thing is built better than a Macbook Pro. It feels rigid, and has a little more weight than you might expect from it..but I like that. I'm done with the "featherweight" direction electronics have taken. They feel cheap, this feels EXPENSIVE

-Amazing battery. Once I successfully optimized this thing it has been regularly hitting 8+hrs of mixed internet use (maybe 20% media/video, 80% text/pictures)

-Screen resolution. Some have declared these screens substandard (for not being IPS), I honestly do not find that to be the case. My screen is bright, vivid, and I find 1600x900 (though not an industry standard) is my new preference.

-Once I mastered Windows 8 gestures (kill lock screen, setup script to go to desktop automatically, few other tweaks) , I've found the touch-pad to be great. You do need the dell touch-pad software for any gestures to work

-Sound is pretty good for the size of the device. It sounds good as long as you have the dell sound software running

-HD4000 can get through light gaming. I played through Portals 2 on Mid/High settings, and was also able to play through the Tell Tell Walking Dead game on high. This thing wont WOW you graphically, but with an SSD it can keep you entertained. This is obviously the price you pay for increased mobility and battery life. There is an upgrade available for the graphics, but I don't play enough to be tempted (I also read accounts of the laptop having issues switching between the on board hd4000 and the graphics card upgrade. Seems the power savings software creates choppiness. This may have been remedied).

-Dell refurbished price. Their refurbished stuff is like new! I've been buying it for years without issue, highly recommended!

Cons:

-Weight! I know I said I liked it, and I do, but..I think there may be a happy medium just a few ounces under this.

-Lack of a dvd drive. I know this is an "ultrabook", but from my understanding, the only reason that it is, is that it doesn't have a disc drive (dvd/blueray). I wish they had done exactly what they had done, forget about Intel branding, and added a light weight slot load dvd (like Apple has done for years). I bought the laptop knowing this, so its not like I can blame them.

-Software/driver issues from above. This took me a while to figure out, and I have some "computing prowess". It may just be too much of a headache for the lay user.

-Retail Pricing (its like 60% premium to the refurbish stuff)

-The type of screw they used on the bottom of the device are very delicate. They are torx based, and are not hardened well enough. After opening the device twice I needed to replace the whole lot of them (which they sent for free..so its hard to complain about!)

-The black rubberized finish on the deck of the laptop attracts grease from palms. Use rubbing alcohol on it, or use whatever you clean your lcd with (carefully, and lightly or you could damage the electronics).

-The real reason I took a star off is the keyboard. I came from a dell vostro laptop (low end business model) that had a great keyboard. It had a good tactile feel, it had a splash tray underneath it for spill protection, and it allowed a certain access to the undersides of the keys for cleaning. This keyboard has a more consumer feel. The letter font is "cutting edge", the keys are smooth and slightly concave, and though I find the back lighting to be great from time to time, it makes it look a lil flashy (it an be turned up and down form the keyboard). the keys are also built in a way that they raised out of finely cut key holes, this prevents most trash/dirt from interfering, but if something get under a key, its hard to get it out!

In all, as long as it lasts (this is written at month 6 of ownership), and the aluminum holds up (so far I cant even find a scratch on it), Im a very happy camper!

I love this laptop so much! The screen is super clear the resolution is absolutely stunning! The keyboard is so smooth and it being backlit is just an extra bonus. The trackpad is super smooth and I love how there are no raised buttons on it! It boots up very quickly and the battery lasts for such a long time. Just today I've been on it for about 6-7 hours and it just died about 20 minutes ago. It doesn't overheat and the top always stays cool. The only place you feel any heat is on the bottom. In comparison to a Macbook Pro, it is heavier, but worth the extra weight. It's a solid machine and it looks so sleek! Love this laptop, great choice if you're considering a Dell, Utrabook or trying to decide between Mac or Windows. The only downside to this laptop is that it doesn't have a DVD drive, but it's still an excellent choice!

I bought this computer on black Friday, about 800 dollar. Honestly, it worth for this price. I had check many 14 inch computer on line, and most of ultrabook are over 900 dollars.

pro: battery. it can last over 7 hours. It is good for people who have a long travel.

high resolution for 14 inch PC. It is 1600*900

Ultra thin. it is about 3 CM when i fold it.

con: it is noisy when i was running game, and the heat is a little bit too high.

touch pad. there is no hot key to disable it

a little bit too heavy. it is good for PC to have a metal shell, but it too heavy for a 14 inch PC.

The graphic card need to improve. GT 630 M doesn't match i5 CPU.

I purchased this laptop two years ago and it has been running great ever since. The Lenovo R400 is designed for durability, and performance. It is a great choice for programmers, and professionals who need an affordable laptop to get their work done. I mostly use my laptop for school work, writing, editing and this laptop goes above and beyond.

The touchpad is large, responsive and comfortable to use. I have also used it for CPU resource-intensive programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver. The sound quality is excellent and I haven't had any problems with it. The most amazing thing about this laptop is its spill-proof keyboard which drains liquids away from the internal components. I have twice accidentally spilled coca-cola and the laptop has survived beautifully. My Thinkpad R400 has endured its fair share of knocks and rough treatment without coming to any harm so for that I give this laptop a 5/5.

The only thing that I can consider a disadvantage of the Thinkpad R400 is that it's quite heavy and can get annoying to cary in places. It has a nice CPU (Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz) which can handle pretty much everything you throw at it including some light games. It also has enough ram (4GB) which is more than enough these days for intensive applications. My laptop came with a 160GB HDD but I have upgraded it to a Samsung 830 128GB SSD and it flies like the wind. It also has a nice DVD burner which I use quite a lot. The battery is decent, not the best but it gets the job done. For me it lasts around 2hrs with half brightness. I'm still using this laptop and it has never slowed down.

The computer itself is alright but the speakers ruin the experience. To say they are bad is an understatement. At full blast I can barely hear sound played making watching shows and movies and listening to music a chore. I have to turn on captions for shows even if my house is silent. I replaced an older Satellite with this one and there was no sound problem on that one.

An easier to fix problem is Windows 8 is the most annoying O/S I have ever used but that is easy to replace unlike the useless sound on this thing.

When I purchased the laptop, it worked perfectly. It has Windows 8 preloaded, which is only ok. Within 30 days of purchase, the computer would suddenly shut down a few seconds after it was powered on. It was somewhat difficult to make arrangements with Toshiba repair, and it cost 24.99 to ship it back for repairs. So "warranty" is a subjective term. Other than the fact that the computer wouldn't power up for more than a few seconds, its a great buy.
