Received my Dell 15R special edition in a fast time. It came in its dell box and also a Amazon box for shipping. The computer is pretty fast, nice graphics, still getting a hand on Windows 8 but overall computer is more that what i expected. Graphics card is switchable from Intel to AMD Radeon. This computer can change from playing a game (ex: Vegas 2 ) to skype or its desktop as if it was changing normal windows. Multitasking on it is incredible.

I can play games what I like, though is not whatever games. I enjoy this computer but it is a little hot when you play games, but I just know that on software, I cannot feel it. It is ok! I love it! And it is really clear on screen.

It was very hard to choose between this Sony, the Macbook Air, or the Asus UX-31A but overall I'm sort of content with my purchase. The first thing I noticed after opening the box was how small it is, which is a good thing. It also is very attractive, with very sleek aluminum case. As far as performance goes it seems to be adequately fast, but windows 8 has been hard to get used to, but that is expected. There are a couple things that have been bothering me, one is the fan. It's not extremely loud, but it is constantly running and you can hear it. I had a Samsung previously and I rarely heard the fan. I figure that after owning it for awhile you might not notice it. The other thing and probably the biggest problem like many other computers is the trackpad. The gestures are very annoying and you find yourself executing functions that were unattended. The touchscreen is also not very accurate and you will find yourself hitting things by accident as you are trying to scroll down the page. As I try to scroll to the bottom somehow I end up highlighting half the page in blue, and this happens all the time. You might be able to buy better for $850 if you wait for new Laptops to be introduced over the summer. This does not have a backlit keyboard and has the standard 1366x768 screen. Many laptops at this price range have a backlit keyboard and a higher definition display. If you want a slim, light weight, sleek laptop under $900 this is for you. I do however think you will get more for your money in the near future.

I'll start by saying that I did not purchase this at Amazon. Went to Fry's and price matched with Amazon. Close enough. hehe

The new T series are beautiful laptops. Made of aluminum and shinny metal, the SVT13136CXS really stands out. The 3rd generation i5 processor makes everything much faster. Apps on the Sony open just as fast as my Surface Pro. Legacy software is fast, too, but does lack a little speed, mainly because of the hybrid drive in the Sony. The Surface is 100% SSD. Still, was very surprised at the hybrid drive (500HDD + 24GB SSD) in Windows 8. Boot time is less than 10 seconds. Actually, it booted quicker than my Surface Pro.

There is one reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 and that's mainly because of the current webcam issue that I happen to encounter. Before I bought the laptop, I did read about the webcam issue and I thought to myself, most of the time it's driver issue and I'm pretty sure a fix will be released. I'm not sure if this is a Sony problem or a Windows problem, but it seems the camera, after one use, goes black or very dark and grainy. You can increase the brightest or mess with setting all you want and still have no results. Well, after trying different things I noticed that the problem is in the "Camera" app in Windows 8. If you open Skype or any other application that uses the webcam, the issue is nonexistent. Seems like the Camera App is not loading the drivers (maybe too fast of an app? lol). Anyhow, I only use the webcam for Skype and/or Facebook so once I noticed that the camera works fine with those two, I was happy and could care less for the "Camera" app in W8.

One other tip I'll throw in there. If you can find a deal at the Microsoft Store, like right now where it's on sell for $799, then I'd order the laptop from them and take advantage of "Microsoft Signature". It means a laptop sold by MS will not come with junkware and you'll have Windows Defender for free. If you don't mind doing the work, like I did, then the first step is remove all the junk software from the laptop. You'll feel better afterwards :)

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, this model doesn't have a DVD/CD drive. If you are looking for something similar to this laptop, but need a drive, maybe give the SVT14127CXS a try. That model has a 14" screen, 128GB of SSD storage, and a DVD/CD Writeable drive.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I prefer the larger HD space, but do appreciate the SSD for booting quickly. The only issue, so far, is the webcam. In reality, the issue is the camera app in W8. Works great with Facebook and Skype.

I'll keep you posted if anything changes, but as of right now, very pleased.

The laptop is aesthetically amazing.

Only problem is mine hangs a WHOLE lot. I've tried reseting it using VAIO ASSIST many times doesnt work. I guess theres an issue with rapid wake too.

Oh, and it's mousepad isnt really good.

The touch is AMAZING though.

The camera doesnt work properly using the camera app. Realpoor quality.

Audio is WOWOW.

Doesnt boot up in 2 seconds, mine takes 12-15 even on sleep wake. I dont know why.

Battery backup is really nice.

Overall mediocre but i guess thats just something with my model only? Dont know really but it turned out to be unexpected and disappointing, though.

UPDATE: 18.5.13

It crashed again, this is getting too much. I took it to SONY and they said there was some problem with my laptop, they recommended me only to buy from Sony directly. Weird stuff.

Honest reviews on Sony VAIO T Series SVT13135CXS 13.3-Inch Ultrabook (Silver)

I have been a Sony laptop fan through three Z series laptops. With the Z series, I paid top price (over $2,500 for each computer) and would get three years of superlative performance. The screens were tack sharp and accurately represented true colors, which was important for me in the Photoshop work that I do. But Sony has withdrawn Z series laptops. Perhaps their high price depressed their sales. Who knows? From time to time, I have worked on lower end laptops and have been delighted by their performance. Also, my $500 iPad performed as well as my Z machine, so I thought that perhaps the time has come to look into a lower priced device.

When shopping for a new computer this past Spring, I reviewed more than a dozen products. I spent two weeks investigating them. Unfortunately, you don't really know if a laptop works for you until you've had a week or two experience using it to learn its quirks and to see if it fits with your style. After balancing the pros and cons of different features on a dozen laptops, I found that I didn't really know which laptop was best for me, because creating lists is just a paper exercise. So I went with the Sony T series because of my good previous experiences with Sony computers. Big mistake.

Here is what I discovered:

* The touchpad is terrible, truly horrific. There are no left and right buttons, only a single square. The bottom left hand corner serves roughly as a left button, and the bottom right as a right button. When trying to use either, sometimes you get it right, often you do not.

* When clicking on an object on the screen, you have to tap the EXACT CENTER of the touch pad and you have to come down at a perfect 90 degree angle to the surface. If you are slightly off center or if your finger touches the touch pad at a slight angle, nothing happens. I taped a small piece of scotch tape to the center of the touch pad surface so that I could feel the center when working, but it was no go.

* The screen is shiny so that you always see the reflection of something on it. Also, images aren't crispy clear. I would call it an "anti-retina display." Finally, its colors aren't true, so I can't use it for my Photoshop picture editing.

* The touch screen is hyper-sensitive. I'm afraid to sneeze when using my computer, because the slightest disturbance sends the cursor flying this way and that and paragraphs of text get covered with the blue highlighter, text expands or shrinks, or I jump to a different application. The cursor itself constantly plays hide-and-seek and it often isn't visible against the white background, so I make heavy use of the Ctrl button to find out where it is.

* The keyboard is terrible. You cannot press keys at even a slight angle. Also, some keys need to be "cleaned" two or three times a week (i.e., remove the cap), otherwise they cease to function. I normally type at 70 wpm, and find that the keyboard behaves reliably up to about 35 wpm, then starts jamming or skipping letters beyond that point. In writing this short review, I have already encountered about twenty keyboard glitches.

* The laptop is not particularly light. I suppose reviewers who say it is light have been working with really large clunkers. My wife purchased one of the last Z series machines about 15 months ago, and it is a much lighter.

One more problem -a Windows 8 problem, not a Series T problem. Windows 8 is tough to work with. Microsoft believed it was losing out to the interfaces employed on touch screen tablets, so it adopted a clunky touch screen operating system for serious business computers. But it is inadequate for the needs of serious business users who are concerned with typing documents, conducting spreadsheet analyses, etc., not flipping through hundreds of photos or resizing images. The tablets are designed for fun and spontaneous access to the Internet -they serve a different function from business computers. With Windows 8 wed to the Series T, we get the worst of both worlds.

What's good about the Series T? It's quick start up. It has a solid state "booster" drive that let's you get moving within 4-5 seconds. On my Z laptop, it would take more than a minute to get booted up. That's about the only advantage I've found.

Great value for the money and has everything we need. Is a replacement computer for a family computer and the portability was the key need here with good features. The touchscreen takes the need for a mouse out and makes for a much more suitable work experience. Thanks.

This review is about the product I purchased from KMM5086 Amazon Marketplace

I bought two of these machines from Best Buy last year so I knew what to expect. The seller said it was only being sold as used because it was an open box; otherwise, it hadn't actually been used. For the price, even if it showed some wear, I would have been happy; but when it arrived, it looked exactly the way the other units did when I brought them home from Best Buy last year.

Evidently, the seller must have turned it on before shipping it because Windows 7 was updated as of Oct 1, the day it shipped. I thought that was a very nice touch that saved us a lot of time.

I bought this unit for my Daughter-in-law to play games like Diablo III on along with my son, who got one of the two identical units last year. After firing it up and getting the two updates recently released by Microsoft; and uninstalling a couple of things, we installed Diablo III and she was playing it when I left.

I was a bit leery at first, with him being a new seller on Amazon but the description and price overrode my skepticism and I am very glad that it did. The other thing that worried me a tad was that there was no mention of where it was coming from; but once it shipped, FedEx let me know it was coming from FL. (I think he might mention the location of products he sells in the future.)

I also paid for expedited shipping which said I would get the laptop in 4-6 days. It shipped Monday and arrived on Thursday. It doesn't get much better than that!

I will be upgrading its memory this weekend, which will give me an opportunity to look inside the case a little bit. I do not anticipate any problems on that score. Again, everything looked brand new and pristine, as advertised.

I am complete satisfied with this purchase at this time; and I would buy from this seller again without hesitation.

I am not an apple junkie. I hate the iPhone and the iPads and find them to be outdated technology. Be assured I'm not an Apple cult follower who will tell you everything Apple has ever made is a piece of gold.

Now, on with my review.

I used to be a PC user. I know Windows 7 inside and out. My old laptop was just getting outdated and weighed no less than 8 lbs and was getting heavy to carry back and forth from school. I intensely dislike the windows 8 interface but I didn't want to be stuck behind on an old OS either. My father turned me on to the Apple Macs and I am glad he did.

The screen is beautiful. As a Windows user that was always something I envied. This retina is supposed to have a 30% less glare than the MacBook pro without Retina display. I can't say I know for sure (because I don't have a previous macbook to compare it too) but I haven't had a problem with glare.

The overall physical quality of the product is outstanding. Nothing feels cheap, no pieces that don't belong. It's a very attractive piece of equipment and it feels like it will last me a few years.

The Solid State Drive (SSD) is no joke. I read some other reviews that say there is lag and I think they are crazy. This computer doesn't hesitate to do anything I ask it to do. 8gb of RAM is more than I have had on any other computer and it easily handles everything. I'm not a gamer or a high tech junkie but I do expect my computer to perform quickly and flawlessly. This beast far surpasses my demands. 256 GB may or may not be enough memory. I have had the computer for about a month and have a little under 200 GB left. The only downfall to this computer is that YOU CANNOT UPGRADE THE RAM. The RAM, mother board, and battery are all soldered to the chassis. That means any modifications will destroy the computer.

Another small issue, but easily fixed, is there is no ethernet connection. I'm well aware that wifi is now keeping up with the wired internet, but I do find the wired connection much more reliable and much quicker when downloading big files. A $30.00 adapater is needed (which I have), but it is still something I would have liked to have been actually on the laptop itself.

The computer weighs less than 4lbs and my back thanks me.

The battery life is astounding, but like I said I'm coming from an outdated laptop in which 3 hours was a generous battery life. 7 hours of HEAVY use is much more than I could ask for.

This computer also comes with some cool features. I really dig the keyboard backlight. I've never had a computer with that before and I do find it really helpful. The facetime camera is also of excellent quality.

If you buy this computer from Apple (I bought mine in July, maybe its running through August 2013) as a student they take $100.00 off at the store and give you a $100.00 itunes gift card. I used this gift card to purchase things like pages, keynote, and numbers. The service I received at the Apple store was phenomenal and I got an excellent deal on this computer.

Overall I love this computer. I went all crazy and cased it up and got ridiculous unnecessary accessories (like a keyboard cover) but it's all because I love my Macbook pro. While the price tag may be eye-popping, you are getting your money's worth out of it.

UPDATE:

I've been using this computer about 2 months now for various activities like school work, video viewing and surfing the internet. This computer leaves me with no wants. The battery life is awesome and I do not worry that I need to bring my charger to school just in case because I know it will make it through the day.

I have also found that while viewing videos for about half an hour or so (like workout videos), it only eats about 5% of the overall battery life with brightness on a good setting.

Now here was something I found interesting. If one were to shop around for a comparable computer, such as an Asus or Samsung, one would end up paying almost as much as you would for this MacBook Pro. All the computers I've looked at all have touch screen (a feature I do not want) 4GB of RAM and about the same SSD storage. I'm sure those are quality computers, but I really dislike the Windows 8 interface.

I still love this computer and expect to keep loving it as I use it more and more.

I was a PC user for all my life, this was the first time I decided to buy a Mac and I was a little bit scared by the OS but really ... this laptop its simply awesome! Works perfect, fast and smooth! If you are an active pc gammer DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP I do play some games and this its the main drowback of this product for me (I knew it before buying it so ... im not going to take off a star for it!)

If you are a software developer, designer, musician or anyone who need a really strong fast performance for work buy this!

If you are like a internet browsing person... do not do the investment in this laptop, you can find something cheaper that will do the job.

Best Deals for Apple MacBook Pro ME662LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop with Retina Display

These reviews really helped me when I was figuring out what to buy, so here are my two cents. I couldn't figure out if I wanted the Pro Retina or the Air, and I wasn't sure if I wanted 13 in. or 11 in. Now, I actually own both the Macbook Pro 13" Retina and the new Macbook Air 11 inch, and I understand most people won't want to buy both but these are my thoughts. I first got the 13" Retina, because I loved the screen, esp. the way text looked because I read a lot and it made such a difference. I have the i7 version, plus the 8 GB RAM, and 256 hard drive. I love this thing. It's gorgeous and fast, a pleasure to work on. BUT. The only problem with it for me is the weight. I know it's lighter than it used to be but I'm petite and when I'm traveling and need to give presentations, this thing is in my bag the entire day, and I find it heavy. Many people may well be stronger than I am but I personally find it a pain to drag around when I'm on the road. Also, the battery life is good but not brilliant, so if I use it all morning and a part of the afternoon unplugged, it's dead.

So I recently bought the 11 inch Macbook Air as well, the new version, also maxed out, i7, 8 GB, etc. That thing is so light, it's amazing. It is lightning fast and the battery life is incredible. I can use it and use it and the battery won't budge. However. The screen is so much less good than my Retina Pro. I'm not a picky person and before I got used to the Retina screen, I didn't mind but now, it's a huge difference. The text is pixelated and very small, the whole thing looks much less good.

Basically, I think that if you're going to be mainly stationary when using the laptop, I would definitely go for the Retina Pro 13 inch. At home, it's all I use nowadays. It's a joy to use and looks amazing. However, if you travel a lot and will mainly be using it on the go, I think the new Air is fantastic. I hardly notice it in my bag and the screen is fine, just not as beautiful as the Retina, plus the performance and battery life are incredible. If the weight and shorter battery life of the Retina doesn't bother you, that would be the clear choice.

Honest reviews on Apple MacBook Pro ME662LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop with Retina Display

Luckily I was able to get this model on educational discount with tax exempt, but the price tag is still too high for the performance.

The MD213LL/A model with a 256GB SSD is selling for $1499 now and that's probably the best value for the 13" retina models. The 3210M and 3230M intel processors differ less than 5% in performance. The only trouble with the older model is the screen burn-in issue that may be present in a large batch. On this current model, the burn-in is not noticeable unless you go all white from a high contrast still image, then there is still some minor burn-in. But other than this minor annoyance, the screen looks amazing in terms of details and color saturation.

Intel HD 4000 on a 3230M is a joke for a 2560x1600 screen. It will play movies and do some light design work, but anything a bit advanced causes problems. Even AutoCAD 2D work and Photoshop CS6 presented display problems in multiple instances for me. This should really be a Macbook Retina, not Pro at all.

A few years back, Intel barred Nvidia from making Northbridge chips for Intel which included an embded NVidia graphics chip, so now Apple has to put 3 large chips in a Macbook Pro for it to have discrete graphics. This is very sad. The Intel HD 4000's performance on a 3230M chip is at best on par with a NVidia 320M. I would have been VERY happy if the 13" model had even a 630M graphics chip, not to mention one of the new mid-range 700M series. It would have made this little laptop almost PERFECT! The price tag then wouldn't be so unjustified neither.

I use many Windows applications, Bootcamp with centralized drivers allowed me to install Win 7 on it hassle free and runs as it should.

It really depends on what you use this laptop for. For everyday internet browsing, documents and typical use, this laptop will run very nice for you. For design work, heavy processor usage or ANY graphics intensive applications, this laptop is a major disaster. For gaming, steer away completely.

UPDATE: The newer batch of the 2103 MacBook Pro 13" Retina does not seem to suffer from image burn-in at all. A burn-in test revealed no ghosting at all (as of April 30th). Apple seems to have silently resolved the issue in production.

The retina display is amazing as far as doing everyday tasks with so much detail to each application. I started out with the 15inch cMBP w/ i7 Core and 8GB RAM and 750 GB HDD with nVidia discrete graphics card. I took it back the week after because 1. 15inch is getting less exposure for day-to-day tasks such as: browsing, editing, and recording. 2. The larger screen with all the bells did not look as well as the retina 3. Retina is getting to be where the future is. I thought I needed the 15 or 13 with optical drive now that I have used my 13 I realize I do not use it as much as I thought I would. I love this Notebook it is so portable yet very powerful and can handle multiple tasks that are more typical of your average laptop user.

The good points: Windows 8 is NOT as bad as you were made to think. Don't let that be your deciding factor; you can even make it look like Windows 7. I like the ability to (semi-easily) customize the trackpad, though the fact that the default is backwards confounds me. I LOVE the mute button, though I wish Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down were their own buttons (this is a 17" laptop, for goodness' sake -I had it on my 15"!).

The bad point: (which bothers me a lot for some reason) There are NO visual indicators for NumLock or CapsLock. It gets cumbersome when you don't notice you've hit 'CapsLock' instead of 'A' five sentences ago.

The good aspects outweigh the bad overall, and this DEFINITELY beats my old laptop that can't charge, so I suggest this one.

The computer is great. I have mostly had Gateway computers because I like them. I had a Toshiba once that I loved as well but Gateway is more my style. The only thing I do not like thus far about this laptop is Windows 8. I can definitely see some great aspects to it but it is like learning a whole new operating system. I was replacing my old laptop which died on me hoping to get a similar model, which I did, with the exception of upgrading from Windows 7 to 8. The new software is so different that I am stull learning it weeks later and have not figured it all out. I am getting tired of constantly having to learn a new version of Windows ever few years!

I've had this laptop for two weeks now and so far it's been amazing.

PROS:

-Touchscreen's great, very snappy and responsive. Works well with windows 8

-Windows 8 is really nice with the touchscreen, all the security and all the new features.

-definitely worth the money, only 700 when I bought it

-beats audio integration is good with the headphones, not so much with the speaker

CONS:

-Average display, really not that noticeably great but it isn't noticeably bad either. what you expect to get for the price.

-Speakers aren't really that great, not for prolonged music listening, but work well.

Overall, a great all around laptop for students, workers and personal use.

I love this touch screen laptop!! The only problem it has no optical device. It was easy enough to solve with the purchase of a NU Slim USB Multi DVD burner.

The Laptop has been awesome. Had a hard time choosing between a nice tablet or a touch screen laptop. I love using Windows 8 (didn't take too long to figure out). My daughter loves the picture password and the touch screen has enabled my 3yr old son to navigate games without use of the mouse or keyboard.

At times I still would love to be able to fold the screen all the way back (Yoga style) and making selections (opening links, folders, files...) with the touch screen doesn't always respond well. I've also had a couple times when the WiFi wasn't working even with a connection and good reception.

Overall, I love it.

In the middle of working on this ultrabook it turned off and never came back. Calls to tech support were difficult (offshored support). They insisted that the power brick failed. Unfortunately the ultrabook was fully charged and was not plugged in. It would appear the motherboard has failed. Does anyone wonder why the "PC" market is hurting? It's not just tablets, or mobile, but quality and useability. The overall product, when working, is very good. Windows 8 is questionable as a useable operating system. Develop something easy to use and compelling from a productivity standpoint and people will come (i.e., Apple). The device is under warranty and HP will fix; why didn't I spend the extra money to get a MacBook! Hey HP high school students are paying attention and they might be your next set of customers...probably not.

I bought this computer for my daughter when she went away to school 2 years ago, and Surprise she still has it! It goes through a typical college kids day and it goes everywhere with her. She even spilled coffee on it and it came right back like nothing happened to it. I was so impressed with it, I bought one for myself. I always bought HP products and was hesitant about buying a gateway. Well don't be...this laptop is great.

Best Deals for Gateway NV53A52u 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 500G Hard Drive

Got this at Best Buy with the same specs as advertised here and was pleased with its graphics & performance. It doesn't contain much bloat-ware and can run more than 20 windows without slowing down. But its biggest con is the battery life and it's REALLY bad. Gateway claims it can hold a charge of 3 hours but I've witness the NV53A go as long as 2 hours maxed with settings set to Power Saver. Today my battery needs to be replaced and it didn't even last a year (only 6 months).

PROS: Can play MMORPGs, some PC games on MAX settings, gorgeous LED screen, HDMI-out, classy & durable exterior design, fast processor, fairly loud speakers, Windows 7 64 bit, big 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, etc.

CONS: Awful battery lifespan, built-in webcam is garbage (requires good lighting source/doesn't record HD), LED has bad limited viewing angles, 256MB of ATI Mobility Radeon (hoped for at least 512MB), etc.

In conclusion, it's NOT worth the price and should be at least $399 but it's a decent capable laptop. For nearly $700 you might as well save up another $100 and get an Alienware laptop. The NV53A isn't a bad laptop but its flaws keep me from recommending this to everyone. If you decide to purchase it just don't expect the laptop to blow you away because it will disappoint. It's great for general usage but there's certainly better laptops out there.

Honest reviews on Gateway NV53A52u 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 500G Hard Drive

I bought my Gateway NV53A laptop in 2010, 2 yrs ago & its the best computer I've ever had in the last 10yrs out of all the other computer laptops & desktops that I've had. It's my 3rd computer. I've not had one problem with it since I've had it. My last 2 computers were not Gateways at all, I bought this laptop from the advice from a friend who told me that he had a Gateway computer for many yrs & that it was his best computer, so he gave me the idea of getting one. To some people, they've had bad experiences with there Gateway computers. To me, its an absolute great computer to buy & very easy to use. I play movies & music on it, & no technical problems at all. I just hope that if you decide to buy one it gives you there pleasure in it that its done for me. God bless you all.

I purchased this laptop at Wal-Mart.com, and so far have been very pleased with the product. After crashing, killing, and setting other computers on fire, this laptop has truly withstood my abuse. So far I have been able to complete all of my desired tasks, from completing work projects, to data sheets, composing sophisticated letters, as well as taking breaks and playing games online and on facebook.

Major Pros: The battery life on this computer is quite lengthy (around 6 hours really), speed and internet connection is quite strong with relation to wire-less internet options, the camera functions well in all applications (Skype, fb chat, uploads, etc). Any additional application you plug in through USB is automatically searched for and installed. A nice wide screen to open many windows and multi-task. Even with numerous applications open, the computer functions at a high level.

Cons: The automatic Microsoft Office that comes with the computer is very limited. Depending on your purchase, Word and Excel were my only Suite applications. Inside those applications, there was a constant advertisement in the bottom right hand corner which is very distracting. The camera is pixallated in some versions of applications you would like to use.

However, overall I would highly suggest this computer for anyone looking for a nice big screen, average Microsoft applications, and even gaming. It has a solid keyboard, and a balanced functionality that any user would find admirable.

I pre-ordered the HP Envy X2 from HP Direct. I have purchased lot of DM4's for most of our sales staff and been happy with the quality, performance and price. I was concerned about the crazy things going on at HP lately. I wanted an ultrabook for travel but I didn't like the early versions that HP had come out with. I was researching the Asus and Lenovo but nothing ever struck me to buy. Then, I read about the upcoming X2 Hybrid. This thing is everything I wanted: small, fantastic battery life, snappy performance, and touch screen. It came in earlier than expected so I was able to take it with me on a business trip. It's good that it did, because I had time on the plane to learn how to navigate in Windows 8. I highly recommend using the "Getting Started" tutorial and the "Windows 8 Cheats Keys" Apps. It got me up to speed and now I see where Microsoft was headed with this. Back to the Envy, this is by far the nicest product I have every purchased from HP. It is truly incredible. The construction is beautiful, and it doesn't even get hot on your lap. AGAIN, the battery life is INSANE because you get a battery in the tablet and the base. In the first day, I literally had 4 different people ask about it when they would see me use the touch screen on a laptop. It was hilarious when I would show how the screen detaches into a tablet, lots of WOW and OOOH! I used it for an entire 3 hour flight and only ate up 15% of the total battery. You do the math ... that is awesome.

Regardless of just the cool factor, this thing is a great multifunctional tool. I have all the features of an iPad, but the power of a business PC. Most of the apps I use like Evernote, Netflix, Skype, Shazam, Youtube, Facebook etc are already in the App Store. One bummer is that I'd really like to have my banking App too. I'm sure the number of apps will grow rapidly. I loaded MS Office and even a CAD reader to view 3D renderings. It works flawlessly.

Any review that doesn't glow about this thing must be a bipolar Apple/Mac user.

I have had my Envy X2 since it was released in December. I purchased it directly from HP. It is a beautifully designed laptop/tablet hybrid with only a few issues, most of which are not in anyway the product of HP or its design team.

The size and weight of the computer are perfect for traveling with the computer. The hinge release design and overall build quality far exceeds those of comparable products (Asus and Samsung ATIV). IT has two usb slots, an HDMI connection, and a SD card reader built into the keyboard dock. The tablet has a Micro SD card reader that will increase the overall storage up to 64GB. This is an excellent feature given the unit comes with only 64GB and over half of it is taken up by Windows and the recovery partition. The keyboard dock also houses a separate battery and separate CPU, so when the tablet is docked, the battery and CPU in the keyboard power the unit. When it is not docked, it runs off the battery and CPU in the tablet casing itself. Overall sound quality is decent, but nothing to write home about. It lacks bass completely.

The Intel atom chip is a vast improvement over the prior chip that bared its name and was found in almost every netbook previously. The processor will allow you to run multiple apps and is responsive in basic programs such as Office. It is not a gaming system and it will not give you the performance required to run most major games. Also, the graphics chip is the Intel chip based on the Power VR design (arm design) so it does not support Direct X, which is another reason this machine is not meant for gaming. For business use and school use, this machine is ideally suited.

The wireless chip is a major design flaw, albeit an Intel one. The nature of the Atom chip is a SOC (sytem on a chip design). It is this design that allows for the 14 plus hour battery life on this system. To accomplish this all of the components are built in to system chip and the chip regulates power usage to a minimum. As a result, the wireless card is not capable of handling speeds over 65mbps. Despite being a wireless N design, it will never come close to 300 mbps of wireless N. It is a single antenna design, despite its multiband capability. It is designed this way to maximize power. However, since the computer does not have an Ethernet connection, this is some what of a drawback if you have a high speed internet connection or need to move large amounts of data over a wireless network. My Fios connection is 75 down and 35 up and I cannot achieve my maximum speed on this device. This feature is shared on all Intel Atom designs, including the Samsung ATIV 500 and the Asus equivalent. The manufacturers conveniently leave this fact out of their spec sheets and websites. It is a trade off for the battery life, but it something that prospective buyers should aware of when looking at this system.

The memory is sufficent for most everyday apps and it will allow multiple programs to be open in the background, as long as the programs are not memory intensive, such as Photoshop or video editing.

The Touchpad has some issues as well, and hopefully a fix will come via a driver update in the future. It will stop responding for no apparent reason, especially if the computer is left sitting for awhile.

The only other drawback is the stylus. At this point it still has not been released, and HP does not have a release date. This is one of the major reasons I purchased the computer. Also, according to the manual, the stylus is an Atmel stylus instead of WACOM. This means that you will only get 512 levels of pressure at most and it could be as little as 256. This will limit the stylus to basic handwriting and editing tasks. If you are looking to do graphic design or heavy photo retouching, this is not the stylus based computer for you.

Overall, this is an excellent system for the money and it will allow you to run legacy windows programs in addition to Windows RT software from the app store. It is apparent that HP put some real thought and design into the system. The fact that the system comes with the keyboard dock is also an added plus to help justify the slightly higher cost. The overall build quality is far superior to the Samsung ATIV and ASUS, both of which are made of plastic components.

As long as you know that this is not a powerhouse computer for gaming or heavy photo and video editing, you can't go wrong with this computer.

Best Deals for HP ENVY x2 11t-g000 Tablet Notebook PC

Great Concept. It's a laptop when I want it to be and tablet when I need it to be. I have full access to all my windows applications and a growing table app marketplace to support the tablet environment.

About the hardware: Snappy performance, very light-weight. Expandable (Micro and standard Secure Digital card slots); 1 on the tablet and one on the base. Extremely long battery life (2 batteries). The screen resolution is very good and clear from a wide range of angles. Let's be clear, this is no retina display, but it is a high resolution In-Plane Switching panel.

The tablet is extremely light and comfortable in my hands. The volume and power buttons are easily accessible and in the right spots. The "detach" mechanism for the tablet and base is intuitive and easy thanks to the integrated guide magnets.

The Beats audio sounds great and requires no intervention.

Out of the box:

Out of the box the unit was charged and ready for use. Windows 8 setup was quick and easy, however there were many updates that needed to be downloaded for the OS and pre-installed apps.

Minor issue:

CameraI'd like to see better camera/video apps

Metro InterfaceSome things still seem to work better with a keyboard/mouse rather than a touch interface. We will have to see how that comes along.

Honest reviews on HP ENVY x2 11t-g000 Tablet Notebook PC

This notebook/tablet is great. The only downfalls I have seen are the top-heaviness which only occurs when you work on your lap. Also, it is a little difficult to open. The detachable tablet is an awesome feature and the full-size keyboard works great for such a small computer. Very portable and durable.

I'm ready to purchase another one for my teenage son. He has fallen in love with mine and now hates his Dell.

Ok, to clarify I really like this computer. It has a lot of great assets to it but the cons sometimes drive me nuts! The audio.. is terrible! for someone who likes to listen to music often I don't appreciate having to be in an absolutely quiet environment to be able to hear the audio so for me that is a big con! Also, the computer seems to freeze once in a while and you can't do anything about it aside from restarting it. I read that from other reviews but thought it would only happen if you have too many things on at the same time.. nope it happens either way whenever it wants. The last con is that because it is a convertible laptop most of the weight is on the screen so if you are trying to type with the computer on your lap it tends to topple back, it bothers me because that is how I mostly type lol. I did not experience the difficulties that other reviews mentioned with the keyboard. In terms of things I like of the computer, mostly how fast it restarts! it is soooo fast! with other computers it takes about a minute or two to turn on, this one is up and running in seconds! the convertible aspect of it is great as well very sleek and elegant. so overall I like the computer, I plan on using it as an auxiliary portable laptop not for my more heavy video editing, watching movies etc. Very basic needs.

I have owned three Toshiba laptops since I was in high school (I am wayyy out of college now) and never had any real problems with any of them that were not my own fault.

This laptop is no different, after my boyfriend bashed on my other Toshiba satellite we decided to buy a new one instead of paying to repair a 3 yr old laptop.

Compared to his MacBook this one looks pretty much the same. Compared to my last Satellite this one has much much better battery life! About 5 hours per full charge. Did not come with any of the extra junk that usually comes preloaded on a computer.

I think people really need to realize that they are getting a whole computer for under $400! I mean COME ON PEOPLE this is not some MacBook Pro or a $2,000 Sony Vaio or something, geez. If you just want to do some light web browsing and some word documents etc. this one should fit the bill. If you are buying a $400 laptop and expect to be playing online games or something maybe you should be using the word document on your Toshiba to type up a resume and find a better job so you can buy yourself a good "gaming laptop". haha.

This seems to be a good computer for the price. It was the cheapest one I could find for what it offered and, since it was a replacement for a 15-year-old who dropped her last one, I wasn't about to put out a lot of money.

The only thing I don't like about it is that there is a glitch involving when the machine powers itself down. It happened the very first time she had it on. The battery wasn't fully charged when she first turned it on and she didn't notice when it got low. It shut itself down and when she plugged it in and turned it back on the speakers didn't work. Headphones would work but no sound would come out of the speakers. I tried everything. Restarting, reinstalling the driver, Windows system restore. Nothing worked.

I did some research and discovered that this is a problem with not only this model but some of the other Toshibas as well. Once I learned what the problem was and followed the directions given by those who had the problem before me it was a super-easy fix. All you do is turn off the computer, unplug it, remove the battery for 10 minutes, put it all back together and turn it on. When it turns back on it will have reset itself and the speakers will work properly.

I don't understand why this happens but now that I know how to fix it (and how to avoid it) I would still recommend this computer. It is a good computer in all other regards.

When I read the other reviews, I was VERY hesitant to buy this computer, but I did anyway, because I wanted the larger screen size. I am VERY HAPPY with this computer, it's looks and it's performance. I have only had it for 3 months so far, but I know I would know by now if there was a problem. I guess it just comes down to "one man's floor, is another man's ceiling".

Loved by toshiba from September up until a couple days ago when it suddenly died. Both the motherboard and hard drive were fried. I have no idea how, as I mainly use my laptop for surfing and streaming shows on hulu. Very annoyed, not under warranty...grrrrr. So upset, now I am out of a laptop. KEEP AWAY!!! Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I am no tecno geek and my needs are relatively simple when it comes to computing so this laptop fits my lifestyle perfectly. I had no problem setting the Envy 6 up to begin using it. It was ready to go in seconds with its built in wifi. I've used the same Dell XPS for about three years, so this laptop is a welcome addition. It's super lightweight and very thin, not bulky or uncomfortable at all. Compared to my other computer, the Envy 6 is super comfortable to use. I think it would be perfect for students and seniors due to the ease of transport, battery life, and ease of operation and because it is so lightweight. I have been using Windows Vista for several years now so using Windows 7 on this notebook is so much nicer, Vista could be a pain, but I've had no problems with the operating system on this notebook and it has a lot of helpful advice to make using it easier and functional. There is no CD option on this version of the Envy Sleekbook, but it hooks up easily to an external CD drive to install programs or watch movies. The resolution and picture on the Envy is wonderful, after looking at this screen and going back to my Dell was suprising to me. The graphics on the Envy are crisp and colorful. The Envy also has bluetooth/wireless so it can be used with other wireless items like printers and phones.

The Envy also has some great features for pictures. It uses Youcam webcam software and it has a lot of fun options for pictures. My kids have been having a lot of fun using it. There are enough fun things on Youcam to keep them amused for long periods of time, even in low light. When I downloaded pictures from my SD card, the computer separated the pictures by date so I could make different albums vs. lumping them altogether and the software also uses face recognition which is a really cool feature.

The Envy surfs the internet with good speed even while playing music and having multiple windows open. The Beats audio is a really nice feature and the sleekbook comes with the standard jack for headphones. Beats audio adds a little extra touch and makes this laptop a little more jazzy and appealing, especially to kids.

My Dell laptop, gets really hot after an half an hour or so of use so I have it on a cooling pad, but it still gets too hot to use after being on it for a while, especially in the heat of the summertime. The Envy stays nice and cool while in use. I've not experienced it getting hot or over heating even after hours of constant use in hot temperatures, it gets a little bit (ever so slightly) warm but doesn't ever feel really hot. The Envy has a nice black finish instead of just aluminum which I really like.

The keyboard is also great. This version doesn't have a backlight for night use, but the keyboard is easy to use with no major clicking noise. It's quiet and comfortable. The trackpad responds great and has a pretty wide pad for navigation, at times it does take more than one click to bring something up, but this is nothing major.

Many of the games on the Envy are linked to an external gaming company, Wild Tangent and they offer free playtime with options to buy the games. The graphics and speed of the games has been really good. I haven't loaded anything like the Sims on this sleekbook as I had trouble with The Sims on my Dell, so I don't know if I will ever do that, but for seek and find games, card games and the like, this works great. I am not sure I would load it up with a lot of high graphic games as it's not really a gaming laptop but a few games would probably work just fine, just not something huge, it would probably work, but slow the unit down.

The Envy also comes with a start up Office version with options to buy the full version. I find that I usually only use Word so this is just fine for me, but for those who rely on Power Point and other programs, an upgrade is easily available, there are also easy options to use to upgrade to any Windows program or add-on you'd like to have. Instant downloads make this super easy, and the computer offers different things to you as you work. The unit is quite intuitive without being annoying.

All in all, I really like this sleekbook laptop. It's been super reliable so far with no issues. It's basic which would make it wonderful for students to do homework and surf the internet as well as for seniors who don't need a lot of bells or whistles and hot graphics on their games. This is a nice basic notebook that is super easy to use with great sound and graphics as long as you don't over load it. It's stylish and is black with a red bottom. The Envy 6 is very thin and super lightweight for easy transport. Even business people should find that this is a great notebook for travel and home use. For a low cost laptop, it's great. I paid quite a bit for my Dell and this hp seems to do everything it did without the issues I've had with it and Windows Vista. For an inexpensive laptop, I would recommend this unit for students, seniors, travellers or people who don't need a ton of extra features. It's simple and works really well without over heating or feeling cumbersome. I've had no problems with it for what I use it for which is pictures, music, e mail, typing documents, playing games and accessing the internet. Norton is included free for one month for virus prevention. For a less expensive unit, it still feels like a quality laptop, it's not made cheaply, the Envy is actually very pretty and isn't thrown together where you feel like if the wind blew something will fall off or break. The 15 inch screen is large enough for a quality picture and the graphics are really good.

Netflix also works very well streaming movies on this notebook. The picture is great and Beats provides exceptional sound-no problems whatsoever.

This is a nice solid notebook that is easy to use and looks great. I am growing fonder by the day. If I run across any problems I will be sure to update, but so far, I am very happy with the overall performance of the Envy 6-1010.

UPDATE: 9/10/12-I've installed Sims 3 using a plug and play DVD/DVD rewritable drive and I am very happy to say that Sims 3 works great on this laptop! I was actually afraid to try it but thought what the heck? I can delete the game. But, to my amazement, Sims 3 with one expansion pack even, works great on this laptop. This is just a great machine!

*****Nine months later, this machine is still working well with no problems. I have had to replace the charging cord twice because the wiring inside shorted out by getting bent or by stepping on the cord and once it fell off the bed onto the side plug, so it's my fault about the cord. They've redesigned these cords to turn to the side now instead of sticking straight out where they had a tendancy to get hit or bent. Machine is still very good and I've never had any problem with it and it's almost been a year of ownership.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program To be able to fairly review the HP ENVY Sleekbook, I first had to stop and ask myself what exactly the Sleekbook is and isn't. Reviewing it for what it isn't wouldn't be fair, and too many people tend to do just that leading to unfairly poor reviews. So what is the Sleekbook exactly? It is a slightly more affordable AMD version of the Ultrabooks, but it can't be called an Ultrabook because Intel owns the rights to that moniker. What you get with the Sleekbook is a non-user upgradable slimmed down laptop (or large netbook) with no built-in optical drive; the battery and hard drive are not user-removable to be swapped for other drives or a spare battery. Once the battery runs down, you are left no choice but to recharge it via the power supply they send with it. This was kind of a let down that the batteries weren't swappable, but given the price and lightweight portability factor the Sleekbook was intended for, it really isn't a fault. Given that the battery life on it is exceptionally good, a spare battery isn't really needed. It's easy to get 6+ hours off a full charge.

The processor is an AMD APU, meaning it handles both processing and graphical duties. It is a dual-core design, and has plenty of power to do most any task anyone would reasonbly ask of a laptop type of computer. Heck, it even runs some games fairly well such as Star Trek Online and World of Warcraft. It has plenty of oomph to process audio and video files for those with a portable studio, and the screen is large enough and has enough resolution for minor photo-editing tasks.

The keyboard is the chicklet style, and it does take some getting used to, as does the touchpad. First thing I had to do was turn down the sensitivity on the touch-tap controls because they really pick up the slightest touch in default configuration. If you plan to use one of these much in poorly lit environments, do yourself a favor and get the next model up with the backlit keyboard. It's very hard to see the keyboard in the dark, and the chicklet keycaps combined with the compact laptop layout isn't very friendly for the touch-typist.

They quality of the built-in speakers is worse than bad, it delves into the realm of abysmal. Even my old laptop circa 2003 had far superior sound quality from the built-in speakers. However, once you plug in a set of quality headphones or IEM's, the Beats Audio sound processing really comes to life and gives everything a rich, full sound that is sure to impress.

The finish? I love the color scheme, the dark brushed metal with deep red bottom really looks great, though as can be expected the brushed metal finish is quite the fingerprint magnet. Keep a micro-fiber cloth nearby to keep those smudges under control and you'll have a really, ahem, SLEEK looking Sleekbook that is sure to turn a few heads.

Performance to cost ratio? For the money, you get a lot of performance, more processing power than most people need for average tasks. I really have to say that the price is excellent for the performance offered. Compared to comparable offerings, you really would be hard pressed to find anything better for the price, and spending a couple hundred more isn't really going to net the average user a meaningful performance increase outside of mostly useless benchmark numbers. Overall the HP ENVY Sleekbook is a no-brainer for someone looking for a budget-friendly go anywhere lightweight/thin notebook computer.

PROS: this laptop looks great, feels great, and at the beginning...worked great. It is very light and sleek, which I loved!

CONS: I made the mistake of not reading all of the reviews before buying this laptop and now I GREATLY REGRET that!!!! So first the shift key became harder to press, then before long it would randomly freeze and there was nothing to do to fix it, then left hinge on the laptop broke so the only thing on that was connecting the left side together was a FEW WIRES!!! Now you couldn't really shut the laptop and the laptop was crooked!!! Also, I thought I should state for the record that I take VERY good care of my things and the reason my laptop was falling apart WASN'T my doing!!! So because it was broken I sent it back and HP said it would take a WHILE before they could fix my laptop so they said I could pick out a new laptop....so after days and days of talking to HP I found one I liked and they said they had in stock....however they just informed me that it is no longer in stock (even though I supposedly ordered it through one of their managers a few days ago!!!!!!). I am so incredibly disappointed with the HP envy laptop and the company HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honest reviews on HP ENVY 6-1010us Sleekbook 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The HP Envy 6 arrived in a slender box, with power cord and easy set up instructions. There was no start up disc included and none was needed. I plugged it in and it started up with basic instructions for personal account information and set up.

This laptop is slim and lightweight. It has no additional number keypad, and there is no backlight on the keys. The mouse touchpad is easy to use once you get the hang of scrolling up and down pages.

Wi-FI was set up in seconds. I was able to connect to the internet with no issues.

It includes anit-virus protection trial for 60 days. Which is a good start.

The laptop was warm, not hot, after using it for a few hours. I use it everyday for internet use, games, shopping and accounts etc., so I do charge it everyday to keep a full charge.

At 15.6, the screen is a nice size and the picture is crisp. The sound is clear with the Beats Audio, my Itunes music sounded great.

I only need a computer for recreational use and school work. This fits all my needs. No complaints at all so far. I love it!

Recieved this laptop for my wife this morning. Ran some preliminary tests to determine if it needed to be returned or if it was running at advertised speeds. Performed very well. I would emphasise that my five star rating is specific to the price point this laptop is in. Clearly this computer cannot compete with a $1000 laptop, however for its price I am having a hard time finding anything comparable.

Runs smoothly, starts up quickly and performed very well when clocking the CPU and data transfer rates.

If you want a great computer for under $600 don't hesitate, this is your laptop.

I like the laptop but Windows 8 takes a lot of getting used to.

I purchased this because I needed the i7 CPU, 8GB RAM & 500GB HD but wanted to be able to use it as a tablet. I use it for work so I use it as a laptop more than anything but it is nice to be able to use it as a tablet or turn the screen around for others to see. So if you need a real laptop but want some versatility this is for you. If you want more of a tablet get one of the other more tablet oriented convertibles.

More features than its comparable models at a low cost. The touch screen feels and works good. looks better than the old thinkpads. The twist feature works great. Applications are compatible to use with the tab.

Gets heated up quickly while using as tablet. Dont expect a battery life of more than 4 hours. Also, feels heavier when compared to other convertible laptops.

Does everything I expected. Boots up very fast. Replaces my desktop and works as a very powerful tablet. I have no complaints. Great value.

I'm a little disapointed because the screen always twist in disorder. The screen lock is useless. I don't know this is common or just for my laptop.
