I am amazed by this computer. Big 17.3" screen, resolution is great. Sound is awesome. It was recommended to me by my computer tech. He said it is an excellent computer, especially the price. He set it all up for me.

There is only one problem with this laptop...Windows 8, it lasted less than 45 minutes before I returned to Windows 7 Ultimate.

Now the computer is a joy to use. I have 29 years as an IT tech and I think Windows 8 won't be ready for prime time for at least another year if at all.

The setup:

I normally use a Toshiba L755, which I love. However, due to circumstances nothing short of disastrous, it required repairs I couldn't manage myself. These took FOREVER. I needed a computer in a hurry, and my only option was to buy a new, inexpensive one. This is the model I chose.

The beginning:

When I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. The computer feels very well made, more so in fact than the Toshiba. First, I upgraded the memory to 8GB, which was easily done. I plugged it in, turned it on, and started the lengthy update process necessary to keep Windows happy. It completed without error. I then set about installing the software I planned to use, and expunging the bloatware, which was less than came with the L755. Heartened that this might mean there would be no teething problems, I then went to work.

The muddle:

Though not as fast, everything appeared well... at first. This did not last long.

I burn a lot of DVDs. Instructional videos, Youtube videos, home movies, work videos, etc. the quality of these is very important to me. Those I created with the G570 were a DISASTER. They locked up. They skipped. They refused to play. I was furious.

I thought Lenovo had been saving money, putting a cheap DVD burner in my machine. I upgraded to a Samsung SE-208BB, which was simple, as Lenovo clearly has thought about ease of service. This improved things a bit. Discs no longer refused to play or locked up. However, they still skipped. Fighting my desire to find a fireaxe, I then turned my attention to Windows.

I burn discs using Windows all the time. It's easy, fast, and the best programmes for burning are FREE. I know my software well, and knew I wasn't at fault. So, I started tweaking.

Nothing helped. Days and DOZENS of ruined discs later, I was far behind, and entertaining dire thoughts about 'bargain' equipment. Then I had an Idea.

The end :

I upgraded the HDD to a 750GB WD Blue. This was easy. then I popped a Ubuntu 12.04 CD in the tray, and booted to CD. I whizzed through the Install/update cycle, added the equivalent programmes, held my breath, and set to work.

POOF! Problems solved! No skippy discs, no popups begging me to 'pleasepleaseplease buy our ', no 'reduced functionality' versions of software. All was right with the world!

Wait... why isn't the BATTERY charging?!

I GIVE UP

More when I figure out what the HELL is wrong this time.

UPDATE 25 Sep, 2012:

There IS a way to keep the battery at full charge in Ubuntu!

BEFORE YOU INSTALL UBUNTU!!!: Charge the battery fully, turn OFF all LENOVO ENERGY MANAGEMENT features, even those under the 'advanced' tab, then restart the computer. Leave the laptop plugged in whilst you install and update Ububntu. Restart the computer. It should now keep the battery topped up. At least, it has for me.

There remains NO WAY to burn an acceptable DVD under Windows7.

I bought this laptop on May 2011. 5 months later the left hinge came apart. It was fixed under warranty. On October 2012 the left hinge came apart again even though this laptop is handled carefully. Local Lenovo lab says they can't do anything but fix it if I pay for it. Google revealed it is a known failure. Lenovo still refuses to fix it again. Cars are fixed under recall years after warranty expires. I expect Lenovo to do the same. Meanwhile, I offer not to buy Lenovo.

Honest reviews on Lenovo G570 4334EAU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

I purchased the Lenovo G570 for my daughter to use in college. After reading several reviews, I thought it would be a great and affordable computer for her. Was I ever wrong! How I overlooked all the bad reviews, I don't know.

Go to the Lenovo forum at: to see for yourself.

Essentially the problem is that repeated opening and closing of the lid causes internal parts to break. Many people have this occur within the first five months of owning the computer. My daughter treats her laptop gently and so it didn't start happening to her laptop until at about seven months.

Most people on the forum have had Lenovo refuse to repair it under warranty. The best solution I've read thus far is to disassemble the computer and then glue the hinges on with epoxy! We're still trying to figure out what to do.

Other than this problem, my daughter loves her laptop. However, if you don't intend to leave your laptop open all the time, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.

Couldn't have been happier with the overall buying and setup experience of this PC. Came from amazon with a very clean operating setup, and lenovo's boot optimizer is an excellent feature.

Would have bought a 14" unit purely out of preference and habit, the offset touchpad and placement of ancilliary keys seems odd compared to every other PC we have.

...but that was all ok.. until the screen hinge levered the case of this PC open at the left rear corner as it sits in your lap. Really? It's called a laptop. People, you know, set them in their laps to type with the screen open. So, that hinge should be,, um, at least vaguely sturdy!! #fail.

This laptop is a good alternative to a netbook, if you were thinking about getting a netbook, get this one instead. It has a big screen to work with, and has a well-sized keyboard. The keyboard buttons are not crammed together since they forego the numeric keypad. I personally don't use Windows, and i took a chance and was able to easily install Debian Squeeze (6.0). The laptop comes with the latest chipset from Realtech (the RT8188) and if you use any type of Linux, you can compile the drivers easily from the source (provided by RealTech). If you use the preinstalled Windows 7, then don't worry about this, it'll work out of the box. The only complaint I have is that the trackpad buttons (left click, right click) have a cheap feel. This isn't a dealbreaker by any means.

Great keyboard, good-sized screen, works great with Windows or Linux.

The battery lasts around i'd say 2.5, maybe up to 3 hours. I think it was advertised as more, but I think manufacturers on the whole tend to exaggerate (perhaps they calculate based around just watching the BIOS config screen till it dies instead of real-world use).

I've been a Toshiba laptop fan for years, but when I went to shop for the latest Toshiba line I was stopped in my tracks by their new keyboard design, which uses a number pad and shifts the entire keyboard and mouse pad to the left so far that it becomes unusable.

I saw the HP Pavilion 2000-219DX and tested the keyboard and immediately fell in love. HP did a great job here. The keyboard and mouse pad are centered and it just feels perfect when typing. I'm a writer so it's very important to have a keyboard that works and this one is one of the best I've used.

The other big benefit of this laptop is that it's extremely quiet. I detect very little, if any fan noise. I don't know what they've done with this one, but the battery life is nothing short of amazing. I unplugged it the other day and worked on battery power all day. Granted I was only doing word processing and some web browsing, but battery life puts this laptop, with its power, 15-inch screen and onboard large 320GB hard drive, on par with netbooks for usability away from a power source. Again well done HP!

The only things I'm not entirely impressed with are the screen, it's average; it's processing speed, when working on big photo or video files it leaves something to be desired. I'm still using the stock 3GB of RAM. It should perform better with a RAM upgrade; also the right side placement of the power cord and two of its three USB slots. When will laptop makers realize that a lot of people use and external mouse and don't want wires coming out of the right side of the machine to interfere with mouse movement? Fortunately there is a USB port on the left side too, so it's not a major issue. One other minor complaint is the onboard mouse pad. Unlike the Toshiba's I've used, it doesn't have a scroll function on the right side of the pad. I miss that.

Those very minor complaints are the only things that keep me from giving this otherwise excellent machine five stars.

Overall though this laptop is an exceptional value, with its top-of-the-line keyboard and battery life. Stick in some additional RAM and you'll be ready to do about anything on this that you could with a desktop.

Highly recommended.

UPDATE:

After buying additional RAM (now 6GB total) and working with this computer for a couple of months, I want to report that it is quite slow when working with large photo files, or any other type of large amounts of data that require a lot of processing speed. After running Windows 7 Performance Tests it turns out the AMD processor in this computer is the weak link. The processor scored only a 3.8 (out of a possible 7.9).

So scratch wheat I said about putting additional RAM to make this computer a fast performer. Processor speed is important. With its slower processor the laptop is limited in terms of doing photo or video editing.

Best Deals for Hp 2000-219dx Laptop, AMD Dual Core E350 Processor 15.6", 3gb

Best laptop keyboard I've ever used. Chiclet keys of the current and 1st-gen MacBooks don't compare. The 13" Macbook Pro with the 320M, similarly arranged in discrete islands of individual soft-lettery, does not promote long-term typing with the unforgiving aluminum surface. This 2000 219dx by HP, at the 15" size-form, delights in its tactile rest.

I've also tried the chiclet-style keyboard of the HP dv7-4273us; comparably, the 2000-219dx keyboard is superior. You may find the "give" that is, the flex in the latter a little disconcerting, but it certainly confers a fast-typist certitude of responsiveness. It takes a single design team at a huge corporation to rail against the chic-boutique and this laptop does it.

Congratulations to the hardware designer(s) at HP who stuck to your guns and manufactured this beauty. I would buy five of these for the rest of my life. One would be sent to the computer museum as a reference model of superior scissor-switching.

I've never used the Thinkpad. But if you are a zealot for mobile keyboards, thinking you'd always have to use an external at home, dimly forlorn at the current, fallow fashion of finger finagling, you'd be hard-pressed not to try this trip fantastic.

Walk in to your local Best Buy and try it.

As for everything else, this laptop has been known to work with Ubuntu, and a previous reviewer said it works with Debian. So I'm pretty good to go with LFS.

Update 10/18/2011: Everything works in Ubuntu 11.10. Proprietary graphics, Skype webcam/mic, suspend/hibernate, wireless. Keyboard continues to amaze.

I was in the process of searching for a nice laptop on a budget, going from store to store, website to website, and then I found this deal.

An A10 processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive for $499? All the other laptops I found that had the same specs were $600+

So far, I've had the laptop for a week and I really love it. It is slim, the fan does not make any noise nor does it get hot, it is fast, and so far I haven't experienced any problems.

But if I do find any problems with this laptop in the next few months, I'll update this review...

Hope this helps! :)

hey folks, I consider myself fairly tech savvy (25 years in the IT business). The son's laptop died, so I started the search. This machine was SUCH a better machine then anything else I saw in this price range that I really thought Amazon must have been wrong. No other internet retailer had this laptop with the A10, a better/newer processor. And the machine comes with more RAM, and a larger hard drive that all of the comparable laptops.

Anyway, the laptop arrived, and it is a WONDERFUL machine and everything Amazon stated in their ad.

Yes, it is Windows 8, but get real folks, unless you want old hardware, anything new is going to come with Windows 8. Hopefully when 8.1 is released in October, Microsoft will have resolved some of the more annoying things about 8.

So, today, I ordered a second machine to replace the wife's old Dell.

P.S. Amazon, if you read this, please tell your packers to put some bubble wrap UNDER the laptop box as well as on top. The laptop box was directly against the bottom of the external shipping box. Fortunately, Lenovo's packaging was good enough to keep the machine safe.

Purchased this laptop 2 weeks ago and no issues thus far. Took about 45 minutes to configure (windows updates and whatnot) and get the bloatware off, but everything has went well.

Pros:

AMD's latest Quad Core Richland Mobile APU (A10-5750m with Radeon HD 8650G graphics)

light gaming capability (So far I have only played Tera Rising, I average around 25 FPS on medium)

Nice Cooling

6 GB Ram

Bluetooth

USB 3.0

Low power consumption

1 TB Storage

Barely any Bloatware

PRICE!!

Portable (Light weight and slim)

Cons:

Non really, but I dislike Windows 8. Thinking about downgrading to 7.

Overall, I am happy with this laptop!

Honest reviews on Lenovo G505s 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Honestly the greatest laptop I have owned in the last 7 years since my first laptop. The A10 processor breezes through what I do with ease. The graphics are amazing for the games I play on it (Mass effect 3, LoL, battlefield 4) and it runs most others with relative ease, granted some better than other.

The battery life tends to be a solid 5 hours, give or take usage, screen and sound are great considering the specs and price. Best webcam i've used on a laptop built in. Does get toasty when gaming, but I find taking the battery out while it is plugged in for gaming fixes that.

Windows 8, runs fine, 8.1 ran better. I know people have a hate for windows 8, but i love it.

I have only 2 complaints:

first is the hard drive, slow 5400 rpm, bad. but That is pretty common so its not a huge complaint, just something ill fix with an SSD in the future.

2nd is with microsoft, mostly due to them not really giving a proper tutorial on how to use windows 8. While I love windows 8, they did not make it easier for those not so tech savvy to grasp it quickly and typically will use it for a day, quit, and complain. Though once you get the hang of 8, it runs like a breeze and personally better than 7.

First of all I want to say that is an awesome little machine for the money. Like other people have stated the specs on this thing put it out in front of many of the other laptops on the market in this price range. I looked at a ton of different laptops before settling on this one. I agree with the windows 8 comment. The laptop hardware wise can keep up with it and it runs fine, however Windows 8 itself sucks with anything that doesn't have a touchscreen IMO. The OS is really meant for phones, tablets and laptops with a touchscreen. I still can't figure out what MS was thinking forcing this interface on users who are running desktops and non touchscreen devices. Scrolling sideways with a track pad is not very user friendly. I upgraded to 8.1 preview and although it helps a little it is still not a fun experience. That being said I wiped the laptop clean and installed Windows 7 Ultimate and Kali Linux in a dual boot configuration. If you plan on doing this, you will have to change some bios settings, but other than that it is pretty easy to accomplish. I have done some gaming on it and I was amazed how well everything played. Games like BF3, Crysis 2, Torchlight 2 all ran without a hitch and at good frame rates. The laptop does get a little toasty after long periods of time, mainly when gaming. I would recommend this machine to anyone who is on a budget and wants a fast and capable laptop.

I don't think you can get this much bang anywhere else for $350. The only downside is both usb ports are on the same side. It can be annoying when you have usb devices with short cords to have to rearrange the work area to accommodate the laptop

Well this is a very cheap laptop ( price related ), ive been faithful to toshiba this is my 3rd laptop, I always sell them and buy new ones... Gotta love the whole keyboard, the design is simple but kind of roughed which is nice( not scratching )... LCD LED is nice widescreen, very fast i already loaded all my files and still running fast, turn on in less than 2 minutes, other pc's take a while to load up all the starters programs... The only thing im not so happy is that it only has 2 usb ports and no HDMI port... before i forget battery life is good, last around 5 hours may be more if you set it up right, it doesnt get hot ( thanks god ) ...

Bottom line if your on a budget toshiba c655 is the way to go, your not going to regret it, if you have a lil more money try the L55 and let me know :) ... toshiba all the way, cant go wrong with them !!!

This is my second Toshiba Satellite laptop. I bought my first in early 2007, have used it for several hours most days, and it is still going strong. I needed a separate laptop for a new job and this is just perfect. Nice keyboard layout, and I like the starter office program that you really do not have to upgrade if you just want to do simple documents. Nice and lightweight around 5 pounds to take places, good screen resolution. So far, so good. Price is right!

HP Envy dv7-7240us 17.3-Inch Laptop
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I replaced my dell inspiron with this laptop, and I was quite impressed when I first layed my hands upon the envy dv7.

EXTERIOR DESIGN:

It has a very solid chrome-like feel. It isn't made of plastic except for the outer edges of the screen (which most laptops these days are trending to have), but the rest is very sturdy. It has an LED-lit HP logo, and also a light if you plug in your computer through the ethernet via the ethernet cable. A small warning would be that the light is particularly bright, but that does not bother me one bit when I go to bed, as it is all personal preference. Another smaller LED light is next to the charger port, but compared to the other lights, this one is barely noticeable.

The Keyboard is very sleek, living up to my expectations. The keys are able to be lit-up with a bright white LED, which can be turned on/off at any time of preference. Overall, the keyboard is nicely done and comfortable to use by HP, as all other Envy models. Same goes for the mousepad.

PERFORMANCE:

I was impressed in that they lived up to their spec's expectations. It boots up very quickly from a hard shutdown to a working desktop in around 20-30 seconds. With 8 gb ram, multitasking is strongly encouraged, with a 2.5 gHz clockspeed processor. However I must note that this is note a gaming laptop. Intel HD graphics 4000 is at the very low end of the graphics card department, but that does not drag down my experience with this laptop. Intel is still known for delivering crisp and simple graphics, though it isn't made for anything too graphic intensive. Another thing to note is that for some odd reason, all of my youtube videos seemed to stream inexplicably slowly. I upgraded to the latest version of adobe flash, but I would have to wait to stream anything that is 360+, forcing me to watch videos at 240p. Despite this huge letdown, overall the general performance was generally good.

The camera was flat-out average, with the mio. Nothing was too impressive here, it was all standard.

The sound was impressively loud. I would always be shocked of the capabilities of noise being produced by the Envy dv7, though I wish the subwoofer can do more of the base work. The sound quality was kind of a let-down. I could feel the base change as I toggle it through the Beats program, however the change is not very noticeable. This is not a problem for me though, because I usually only use my laptops at home, with built-in conveniences such as another external 3-inch creative sub woofer with surrounding speakers.

OVERALL:

Pros:

-Fast in general for basic use

-Great specs for price

-Great sturdy build

-Loud built-in speakers

-Great layout with lit-up keyboard and comfortable mouse pad

-17.3 inches delivers crisp experience

Cons:

-Not made for anything graphic intensive like games

-Youtube streams very slowly (may be just me)

-Camera and mic are average

-Speaker quality didn't live up to the hype it has received

I am not saying anything about windows 8 because I feel like it should not affect a PC/laptop's rating in general. I feel like if you want to review 2 stars on a laptop just because you strongly dislike windows 8, you should review windows 8 directly somewhere else.

OVERALL= 4/5

Added November 28: After working with HP Tech support, which was very polite and useful and agreed I had a hardware problem, I then went to Amazon customer support, which arranged for me to get a new, replacement laptop, and ship the defective one back no cost to me. The new one arrived and--after Thanksgiving holiday--I had time to explore the Envy.

The same delights: speed, graphics, big display, fast boot and shut down, fast change between apps, were all there. The keyboard works well, and I notice, the mouse buttons are easy too. After a day or so of typing, I am as fast as ever I was on my other keyboards. In fact, the keyboard has a nice feel: a gentle travel, responsive, nice space between keys to lessen the dread two letters/one touch problem. The ports are good, the SD up front is good design.

I'm upping from the original three stars to five. It is a handsome, quick, useful, easy to use, much more than adequate to my current needs. I don't regret the earlier review, HP's quality control should have caught that. I'm very glad I bought from Amazon. Their excellent customer service made the small increase ($6)over the lowest online price well worth it.

Best Deals for HP Envy dv7-7240us 17.3-Inch Laptop

I bought this computer to replace my old HP Pavilion dv7, works well, looks great, sound is bomb and it is a whole lot faster than my old computer. Only issue I have is that the LED light on the side that is on when you plug the power in, is waaaay too bright. So if you have this in the same room while you are sleeping plugged in it can be a problem though I just unplug when I sleep.

Honest reviews on HP Envy dv7-7240us 17.3-Inch Laptop

I needed a laptop with a large screen and a solid processor. This seemed to fit the bill. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. It. The screen is crisp and clear and the full size keyboard is quite usable. The sound is also very good. It has held up to well to minor abuse. I am also quite pleased with the battery life.

The only short coming is windows 8. It is extremely infuriating. The "metro/modern" interface (the tiles) may have limited usability on a touchscreen (which this is not) but not in any other significant capacity. Navigating through it was an effort in frustration. Additionally, every time my mouse got to the edge or corner of the screen, some kind of windows related pop up would appear. This slowed me down as I waited for it to recede. Additionally, various build in PDF, picture, and video player/viewers were not at all user friendly. Fortunately, I was able to fix most of these issued. By using Adobe PDF reader and VLC video player as the default, I was able to replace the incredibly frustrating native Windows 8 viewers. I was also able to solve the windows 8 usability issue.

While I was researching laptops, I found references by others to a program called CLASSIC SHELL. I had not used windows 8 previous and within 30 seconds of full boot up that it would be a mandatory installation. It installed quite easily and Windows 8 went from being a (to be polite and thereby less accurate) tremendous headache to being usable. It removed the worthless Metro/modern/tile interface, provided a standard start button, allow for disabling of the edge of screen pop ups, and provided easy access to all of Windows functionality. In other words is basically made it like previous versions of Windows. Without CLASSIC SHELL, I would have been forced to return this computer for one with windows 7.

This computer would have rated 5 stars except for the fact that it came with Windows 8. It would have been rated 2 stars except that the problem that is windows 8 was so easily fixed.

Would I recommend this to others? Yes but only with the above mentioned fixes. Otherwise, no. Windows 8 isn't worth the frustration.

Have had this for a month now, added a lot of apps and configuration for student going to college this fall. At first I wasn't sure how Windows 8 and the touch screen were going to work out, but the more I use it, the more I like it. Touchscreen really is much quicker and easier than the touch-pad and mouse! And the touchscreen OS is very well done, a useful interface for today's way or working.

The USB 3.0 docking station (ASUS USB 3.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station) works perfectly with Dell 24" monitor, keyboard and mouse, extending the screens to the 2nd monitor works very well.

Added Classic Shell Windows 8 Start Menu for desktop view (Windows 8 doesn't have a start menu, sorry, still old school, can't live without the start menu!!!), and this worked fantastically.

Extremely pleased with this laptop and its performance. I really wanted to hate the touchscreen and windows 8, but the more I use it, the more I like it!

Got it on sale, to boot.

This computer brings very good and realiable experience. HAve tested for 3 days and everything works very good, the only thing i would have a negative comments will be the brightness of the screen, but i understand that if it is touchscreen you have to put more thick cover to the screen to support this new functionality.

I've had this laptop for 5 days. It's a decent machine but it seems something is wonky with the wireless connectivity. It's dropped signal twice already, and would not reconnect without restarting. Not good. And it's not the wireless connection itself because 2nd laptop, cell phone, and nook stayed connected to wifi throughout. The keyboard isn't backlit, which I didn't think would be a dealbreaker but is turning out to be way more inconvenient than I anticipated. The keys are spaced farther apart than I'm used to, coming from a Lenovo Thinkpad, but it seems most of the new laptops have this weird spacing. If it continues to drop wifi connection it's definitely going back.

This is a very good computer. I like the touch screen very much, but i think it doesn't respond very well in all situations. I don't know if it is a configuration thing yet. I hope it's that, because i love this computer

I bought my HP pavilion dv4 model 2049 about 2 years ago. If I knew then what I know now about this product, I would have gone with something else. The laptop isn't necessarily awful, it just has a few problems then when you add all together create enough issues to annoy me enough that I am writing this review. I am a student who only uses my computer for basic needs homework, internet, research, etc. I never download anything or go to any shady websites.

First of all, I just purchased a new power cord the other day. It happens to be the 4th power adapter I have had to buy for this laptop. I have tried HP brand and generic replacement adapters, but nevertheless, in a few days there will be a fifth power cord Ive used with this laptop. They always fry up in a few months. I don't leave my computer plugged in more than the average joe, and I plug it into a surge protector.

Another thing Ive noticed over the past--probably 6 months now--is man does this thing overheat! It gets so hot that if you actually put it on your lap it would burn your skin. Sometimes it shuts itself down to avoid overheating. It didn't do it the first year and a half, and I realize that it could probably be fixed by installing some new fans. But really? After only 2 years?

Those are the two major issues I have wit this laptop. There are other little things that I do not like about it though. Like sometimes clicking noises randomly come from the hardware for no reason at all. Sometimes I am not even using it when it makes the noises. That is something its been doing since Ive had it.

Overall, its not terrible. But like I said, I wouldn't buy this laptop again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either.

Would recommend this laptop. However, when I purchased it I did not realize it came with 32bit Home Premium Windows 7 and not 64 bit. So I went and purchased 64 bit and reinstalled the OS. Works even better with 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium. I ran it with 32 bit for a day and for the last few days have had 64 bit windows on it. Screen is great. Can't complain except MSI should clearly state that it comes with 32bit on their packaging. Better yet they should install it with 64bit.

First off this IS IN FACT AN LED SCREEN and...

Not an LCD as this ad and the website of national reailers like Office Depot claim, in Fact if you take a brief trip to the website of MSI they too, confirm this and since buying one last night at my local Office Depot I have confirmed that the info on the MSI website is correct this is once more is an LED display !!!

With that said this unit overall is as good as any laptop I have ever owned, or used from my job. This includes 11 different laptops in the last 14 years from NEC, IBM, HP, Toshiba, Acer and Dell.

The only complaint I could find is that it comes with Windows 7 32 bit instead of 64 bit which is not that much of an issue as most applications do not support 64 bit mode at the moment anyway, however I just don't think it makes much sense to have not used 64 bit.

With all that said a quick review and my first impressions...

1. The screen is excellent, large and beautfiul, great contrast and colors

2. The keyboard is excellent, a little different for someone not used to the chicklet style made popular by Apple, but doe not take long to get used to.

3. The processor is an obvious selling point, it runs cool, consumes less power than any previous high end Intel Processor and Graphics combo !

4. Overall build quality is top notch and for the solid feel it is actually quite light !!!

5. The tochpad is TOP NOTCH and I say that as someone who does not use a mouse, tochpad functionallity is something of a pet peeve for me when buying a laptop, so if you too are someone that finds many of the tochpads out there today not worth a penny..

Rest assured this touchpad works and works well !

Windows Experience Index scoring was as follows

Processor 6.4

Memory 7.2

Graphics 4.6

Gaming Graphics 5.1

Hard Drive 5.3

So as you can see for this is a great laptop with plenty of power to spare !

If you are looking for a 15.6 inch unit that is powerful and more than capable of handling Flash media at 1080P look no further, this will make and excellent unit for developers and would serve well as an all around machine for business oriented users too !

One last thing I forgot is the battery and it out of the box after its first charge I got about 2 1/2 hrs or real time use surfing the web and half the time I was watching an episode of Red Eye on Hulu which is very processor intensive...

So when this company claims 2 1/2 hrs they mean it !

Unlike most companies who will site the number windows show right after unplugging it (HP, DELL, Toshiba) Just to name a few !

If you are wondering that number shown when placing the mouse pointer over the batter icon was showing 4 hrs. 15 min on my unit after first charge !

Hope that helps and I will say agian I could not be happier, you will not regret buying this laptop !

Best Deals for MSI A6200-021US Notebook PC - Intel Core i5-430M 2.26 GHz / 15.6"

I purchased this laptop for a mere $525 from Amazon last week. I'm thrilled with the performance of the i5 and DDR3 combined with Windows 7. My only complaints about this machine are:

1. Lack of bluetooth despite having a bluetooth LED and function key

2. Trackpad has a vertical scroll bar, but it isn't raised or visible so kind of difficult to use at times.

3. USB and power ports are in the back as opposed to the sides of the machine.

4. Power LEDs are very bright blue, almost distracting at night.

This machine has a great keyboard, tons of power, a really great screen, and it isn't too heavy. I love MSI and I'll continue buying from them in the future. I would recommend the A6200 to anyone in the ~$600 price range.

I am so glad my fiancee convinced me to spend the extra $100 dollars on this laptop (the one I wanted) over a similar Acer with a Core i3 processor. This is hands down the best laptop I have ever owned.

The good:

LED display

Solid build

light weight (5.5 lbs)

full keyboard

HDMI port

bluetooth

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE

Great price $599

The bad:

not very much information online

weak speaker set

no firewire port

I will be recommending this notebook to my family, so obviously i would recommend it to you.

I am so happy with this laptop! It is by far better than the $900 Dell I bought 2 years ago. And I only paid $600. This computer really handles what you throw at it. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone.

The problem with the speakers that everyone is complaining about is summed up to the fact that they put them on the front of the computer so when its sitting on your lap it sounds muffled. While its not exceptional, it wouldn't keep me from purchasing this laptop. I'm actually able to play sims 3 on it and even my desktop won't run it well. It plays perfectly! I'm so happy with this!

I bought this laptop to use as my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I wasn't looking to spend too much, but I wanted a minimum spec, which this laptop filled. Most important was a dual core processer. The i5 in this machine is plenty powerful enough for my use. I also wanted a 7200rpm hard drive this one has it. I did upgrade the RAM to the full 16GB (an extra $88 in Crucial memory) the machine comes with 4GB and is upgradable to 16GB. That upgrade took all of 1 minute. All in, I spent under $700 for a laptop that could have easily cost $900 or more.

I love the look of this thing. It's big, with a large screen. Might not be a great traveling laptop, but for my needs it is exactly what I want.

Everything arrived in new condition. Fired it up out of the box and installed the updates. NO bloat ware to deal with at all, really. Just some HP tools that you don't need enable. This laptop is clean and PERFECT for my use. No processing issues when recording music I get about 4 or 5ms latency using ASIO drivers I can get similar latency with the WAVE RT driver as well. The Windows rating on this system is 5.9 out of 7.9 which is pretty respectable.

I'm running Mixcraft Pro Studio 6.0, Superior Drummer 2.0 & Melodyne Editor 2 without any hiccups.

I'm extremely pleased with my decision to go with this laptop. Yes, it comes with the Windows 8 upgrade but I'm not touching it! Windows 7 Pro is very stable and what I'm sticking with in this particular instance.

I would recommend this laptop of you're on a budget and looking for performance without a bunch of frills. There's no office productivity software pre-installed so if you're buying this for business purposes make sure you have all of the software you want to run. I'm sure that's one of the reasons the price is so reasonable.

For the home audio enthusiast, this is a great entry point platform for your audio recording and editing needs.

I like the raised keys on the keyboard. I like how quiet this laptop is. The sound and video are very good. Compared to other laptops I've had it's amazingly quiet.. It's nice and light. My last laptop, an Acer, would get burning hot. Not this one. Thanks to some new technology developed by HP it stays cool, which is a very nice feature. It's fast enough. I tried a Toshiba laptop before I got this one but sent it back because the sound and picture were both terrible, and because I HATED the Windows 8 operating system. I feel very lucky to have found this excellent computer with Windows 7, which I much prefer. I would recommend this laptop.

Alright guys, let me see how precise I can be with this review. I bought this machine for a client of mines and they absolutely love it!

First of with the build quality. Its brushed aluminium with some plastic around so the build quality does feel pretty solid. It's a bit heavier than the equivalent lenovo with the same specs but it's not terrible and of the bat, of the better things about the build quality is that everything sits securely on the machine. The lenovo I bought a while aback had q/c issues with the dvd drive sticking out. But this machine was perfect. Oh the machine is a little wider than you think it is, but its not that big a deal. the black finish at the bottom hides how wide the machine actually is.

Now for what comes in the box. I TOTALLY LOVEEEEEEEEE the fact that it came with BOTH operating system DVD's. HP ... YOU GUYS ROCK FOR THAT! So this laptop came with both installation cd's, either windows 7 pro or windows 8 pro, which ever you choose to upgrade it to. And of course with all HP machines it comes with a tonne of bloatware that would take you at least an hour to get rid off (my only major gripe but I still give it 5 stars). But one you get rid of the HP bloatware it works brilliantly!

Now I did notice an earlier review where someone was complaining about it coming in french which I did think was a bit odd. But for those of you who are reading this rewview pay attention. When the laptop is booting for the FIRST time a screen will come up to select which language you want installed to use your machine. YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AT THIS POINT. Because once you select the wrong language it cannot be undone unless you do a complete reinstall. So I figured either the gentleman or his mom was rushing the setup and didn't realise until it was too late. So ppl, please be careful when running the set up.

And I absolutely HAVE to mention the software update for this machine. Now when I was trying update the lenovo I kept getting a stupid error about the updates failing and had to go through the painstaking task of installing them one by one. Which I thought was a bit odd. And guess what, on the dare HP ... NO SUCH PROBLEMS !!! Clicked download, windows installed, even told me there were some unecessary updates and to date it's purring like a kitten !!!

And one final thing is that FN key was not working on my laptop. I was abit alarmed and concerned at first, but if its one thing, I can't fault HP online customer support, and sure enough there was a nice little file on HP's website which said HP FN driver update/fix .. and with that installed the machine didn't fail to impress me.

All in all I highly recommend this HP laptop, which is strange of me to say because I used to hate HP, but if I had to choose this and the lenovo(which was a fingerprint magnet btw), I DEFINITELY would go with this!

If any of you who are reading this and still have more questions. Feel free to contact me!

Honest reviews on HP ProBook 4540s 15.6" Business Notebook PC - C6Z37UT

It's a computer laptop. It works as expected. I got this one because I didn't want windows 8, but wanted a decent amount of memory. This gave me the option of sticking with 7 and also gave me a disk I could use to upgrade to windows 8 if I ever feel adventuresome. I like the key board. The keys are raised. There are some features I haven't tried yet. It is light weight. That is a plus. Much faster than my other laptops. The CD/DVD slot is not well designed, is flimsy and is hard to open. Update: It has a strange deal with the mouse. There is a small pin light (not a button) in the left portion of the mouse closest to the monitor. If you touch it by accident the light will come on and your mouse will freeze. The only thing that will make the mouse unfreeze is to tap that light several times. Apparently my other HP laptop is like this as well and I never have been unfortunate enough to accidently press it. Other than several hours of panic, it didn't harm anything. But scared me to have my computer essentially frozen and unable to access my documents.

The only complaint I have about this laptop is that it's a little big. But hey, I knew that going into it. I upgraded from a Toshiba 13.3" ultrabook that was very light-weight and compact but lacked a little on the power side. I found myself needing a little more power.

15.6" is a little larger than I am used to, but I can't blame HP for that -I knew what I was getting, and I'll get over it in time. And it's actually a lot lighter weight than other comparably sized laptops.

Beyond that, I have a lot of good things to say about this laptop. First off, it's one of the few laptops remaining on Amazon that comes with Windows 7 at all, much more Windows 7 Professional. That was a serious selling point for me. It's got some nice features like a fingerprint-reader that you can setup to process your Windows login rather than typing in a password, which is fun as well.

It also has an excellent keyboard that feels just right...raised keys that have just enough umphh to feel what you are typing, and a 10-key! (Okay, I'm an accountant, so 10-keys matter to me more than most.)

I am consistently getting about 6 hours of battery life doing light computing (word processing, internet surfing, but no video streaming or playing music.) That's exactly what I was looking for. And after coming from a 2nd generation i3 to this 3rd generation i5, the thing seems blazingly fast.

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks and so far I am loving it. As long as you are okay with a 15.6" computer, I would highly recommend this. And it came with a free Windows 8 disk if you ever feel the desire to upgrade...thus far I do not.

Hi everyone, I have been searching for a good laptop so far. I have also experienced a wide range of laptop brands. But this is the best one I have until now. Thinkpad T series are among the best series of the IBM. The Thinkpad T series in general and T420 in particular has very sleek design. Everything is so comfortable for users. The systems is awesome, it runs incredibly fast and smooth, especially it is the coolest computer compared to other computers I had, even at room temperature with full HD video loading. It is plastic cover but very durable and strong. Battery is incredible long lasting. Highly recommended with display type 1600x900.

I love this computer. It was password protected when I first got it, but I was able to get around it to remove it. This is my first Mac and I just love it. It's easy to learn and follow. This was refurbished, and it fell apart quickly. First of all, they said they would put in a new battery, but they did not use a genuine apple battery. Because of that, this cause a lot of issues with the keyboard, the CPU and the fans. After apple replaced it with an apple battery, replaced the keyboard, it was working better. Seller would not help me with this at all.

After a couple more months the display went, it now is nothing but a good looking paperweight. Cost of fixing it exceeds what I originally paid for it. Again, no help from the seller. Don't bother buying lemons from these people.

Honest reviews on Macbook 13", White, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16 GHZ, 2GB, 200 Gb Hard

I regret buying a used Macbook. After paying $400 for the actual Macbook, plus $100 for a new hard drive (since the one that came with it died after 2 months) and $25 for a new charger (since the one that came with it literally fell apart after 3 months), I would have been better off just waiting and saving up for a new one.

Did I mention that it won't read hard drives internally anymore? Because it doesn't. I have to haul around an external drive every time I move my laptop. Oh, and the battery doesn't charge anymore. So I also get to haul a charger around. It's not exactly the most portable thing now, which makes having a laptop essentially pointless.

I much prefer Mac to PC though, as far as the user-friendliness goes. So if you're thinking of switching, do it. Just don't buy used because every seller on here basically rips you off. You don't know how old and mangled it is when you get it. It could look nice on the outside but have some serious internal problems. :/

OK, it's true, people who are new to computers are what every vendor is only too happy to sell whatever to. You gotta do the homework. But the ones who complain about how a vendor won't take a system back with just a few insignificant chihuahua bites on it are the same ones who complain when they get a system that has been repackaged after being "ripped to shreds by some vicious beast". But back to the Sony. There are fundamentally 4 types of portables these days: desktop replacements (DR), notebooks, tablets and phones. The DRs are 17" machines that are perfect if you need a real computer with you that "only" weighs like 10 lbs. The phones and tablets are pretty self-evident. The Notebook genre are what we're dealing with here. They're streamlined computers with 13-15" screens, no hot hardware graphics support and light weight, around 5 lbs. These days you can get those down to the four hundred dollar range. But things get pretty minimal at that price.

The Sony is IMHO a very reasonable compromise in that it's got some serious chops for a notebook. It's not one of the $2K+ micro-Ferraris, that sport a 14" screen but a uranium case and all the goodies you can imagine. The i5 is an appropriately fast CPU w/ 2 cores (4 threads) running up to 3 Ghz, an appropriate 640 GB drive, 4 USB2 ports, an "8 hour" battery and a CD/DVD burner. The 4GB RAM is of course too little, and they should have used a single 4GB stick to make it cheaper to upgrade to the more appropriate 6-8GB (on a 64 bit OS, especially with shared RAM video). The extras are nice. Decent Camera, HDMI out, SD etc card slots, gigabit ethernet, WiFi. The "goodies" you might miss if you want a serious DR aren't there: Accelerated graphics, USB3, Bluetooth, Blu-Ray, Firewire, expansion card slot. And so? The trade-off is you can carry this with you everywhere, it's thin and light, it's a fast processor, and it runs for many hours on a charge (not 8, come on, unless you're into watching the screen-saver or nodding out and typing with your forehead in Notepad).

I got ours on sale for like five fifty, and added forty bucks in RAM and twenty for a mouse. Would have gotten the white, but it was over a hundred more. It's sort of a Macbook for the rest of us in that it's well-made, not ugly, it has everything we need, not too expensive, and it's very very handy. The keyboard and trackpad are not luxurious, but fine. The fourteen inch 1366x768 screen is nice, the image/color is clean, it plays back 720p HD native, and 1080 just fine. Again, you are not getting accelerated gamer graphics, or a 1080p native screen. You just have to decide if you need a Notebook or a DR. I have an older HP 17" DR that almost killed several stewardesses coming out of the overheads, and I swore the next laptop was not going to be a back-breaker. The one shortcoming on the Sony that's hard to understand is the really low volume on the speakers I haven't found a way yet to boost it, say by tweaking the EQ. That irritating detail and the "toss 2 sticks" RAM upgrade path cost it a star. And don't pay list! Other than that it's a primo little Notebook.

Alright, I bought this Sony Vaio through PCNation for about 690 dollars with factory sealed packaging and warranty. I could of have got a better deal with other sellers for around 650 dollars. I was originally suppose to receive it in 1-3 days but the delivery delayed until the following week. PCNation shipping and handling really sucked. The charge to return the laptop was very pricey for me, about a $110 dollar out-of-pocket expense because I opened the package. Also, about $100 dollar battery adapter replacement because my sister's stupid chihuahua chewed on a little bit of the wire, and they couldn't accept a damaged battery adapter. The adapter works brand new and they couldn't accept it because of that small portion of the wire that was chewed on so I decided just to keep the laptop instead of paying all that money just to return it. I'm a freshman in college and I use this laptop for school. So far, I like almost everything about the laptop; the performance, the 8-hour battery life, the keyboard, and it's weight. So the price of this laptop is probably reasonable because of the specs.

What I really hate about is the small display and the graphics card. The screen is too small, and when I'm using the laptop I would have to scoot up closer to read what's on the screen, and I would have to slouch down in order to see everything on the screen so a 15 inch laptop would've been more suitable for me. The graphics card is an Intel HD 3000 and it's decent but it's not that great when watching 360p+ youtube videos and video editing. Also, 640 GB, I doubt I would need that much, 500 GB would've probably been okay for me and the price could've been lower.

My regret is that I could have got a better deal with an 15 inch ASUS or an HP Laptop for the same specs and for a price around $500 dollars with a 1-year norton anti-virus program and Microsoft Office 2010 amounting about to the same price of how much I purchased this Sony Vaio. This Sony Vaio is my first laptop and prior to purchasing it I wasn't very knowledgeable of laptop values. I went to bestbuy, I checked out numerous sites and reviews on laptops and the bad reviews usually swayed me from not selecting that laptop. I couldn't find any reviews for this Sony Vaio so there were no bad reviews to sway me from not buying it.

For any first time laptop buyer, I recommend buying from a store like best buy and check out the laptop first-hand to see if you really wanted instead of ordering online.

I asked numerous people of advice on buying a laptop. And at least now I have a better understanding of laptops and I will know what laptop I would buy on my own next time without the help of other people.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone getting this laptop, it's too overpriced for it's specs.
