I was in the process of searching for a nice laptop on a budget, going from store to store, website to website, and then I found this deal.

An A10 processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive for $499? All the other laptops I found that had the same specs were $600+

So far, I've had the laptop for a week and I really love it. It is slim, the fan does not make any noise nor does it get hot, it is fast, and so far I haven't experienced any problems.

But if I do find any problems with this laptop in the next few months, I'll update this review...

Hope this helps! :)

hey folks, I consider myself fairly tech savvy (25 years in the IT business). The son's laptop died, so I started the search. This machine was SUCH a better machine then anything else I saw in this price range that I really thought Amazon must have been wrong. No other internet retailer had this laptop with the A10, a better/newer processor. And the machine comes with more RAM, and a larger hard drive that all of the comparable laptops.

Anyway, the laptop arrived, and it is a WONDERFUL machine and everything Amazon stated in their ad.

Yes, it is Windows 8, but get real folks, unless you want old hardware, anything new is going to come with Windows 8. Hopefully when 8.1 is released in October, Microsoft will have resolved some of the more annoying things about 8.

So, today, I ordered a second machine to replace the wife's old Dell.

P.S. Amazon, if you read this, please tell your packers to put some bubble wrap UNDER the laptop box as well as on top. The laptop box was directly against the bottom of the external shipping box. Fortunately, Lenovo's packaging was good enough to keep the machine safe.

Purchased this laptop 2 weeks ago and no issues thus far. Took about 45 minutes to configure (windows updates and whatnot) and get the bloatware off, but everything has went well.

Pros:

AMD's latest Quad Core Richland Mobile APU (A10-5750m with Radeon HD 8650G graphics)

light gaming capability (So far I have only played Tera Rising, I average around 25 FPS on medium)

Nice Cooling

6 GB Ram

Bluetooth

USB 3.0

Low power consumption

1 TB Storage

Barely any Bloatware

PRICE!!

Portable (Light weight and slim)

Cons:

Non really, but I dislike Windows 8. Thinking about downgrading to 7.

Overall, I am happy with this laptop!

Honest reviews on Lenovo G505s 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Honestly the greatest laptop I have owned in the last 7 years since my first laptop. The A10 processor breezes through what I do with ease. The graphics are amazing for the games I play on it (Mass effect 3, LoL, battlefield 4) and it runs most others with relative ease, granted some better than other.

The battery life tends to be a solid 5 hours, give or take usage, screen and sound are great considering the specs and price. Best webcam i've used on a laptop built in. Does get toasty when gaming, but I find taking the battery out while it is plugged in for gaming fixes that.

Windows 8, runs fine, 8.1 ran better. I know people have a hate for windows 8, but i love it.

I have only 2 complaints:

first is the hard drive, slow 5400 rpm, bad. but That is pretty common so its not a huge complaint, just something ill fix with an SSD in the future.

2nd is with microsoft, mostly due to them not really giving a proper tutorial on how to use windows 8. While I love windows 8, they did not make it easier for those not so tech savvy to grasp it quickly and typically will use it for a day, quit, and complain. Though once you get the hang of 8, it runs like a breeze and personally better than 7.

First of all I want to say that is an awesome little machine for the money. Like other people have stated the specs on this thing put it out in front of many of the other laptops on the market in this price range. I looked at a ton of different laptops before settling on this one. I agree with the windows 8 comment. The laptop hardware wise can keep up with it and it runs fine, however Windows 8 itself sucks with anything that doesn't have a touchscreen IMO. The OS is really meant for phones, tablets and laptops with a touchscreen. I still can't figure out what MS was thinking forcing this interface on users who are running desktops and non touchscreen devices. Scrolling sideways with a track pad is not very user friendly. I upgraded to 8.1 preview and although it helps a little it is still not a fun experience. That being said I wiped the laptop clean and installed Windows 7 Ultimate and Kali Linux in a dual boot configuration. If you plan on doing this, you will have to change some bios settings, but other than that it is pretty easy to accomplish. I have done some gaming on it and I was amazed how well everything played. Games like BF3, Crysis 2, Torchlight 2 all ran without a hitch and at good frame rates. The laptop does get a little toasty after long periods of time, mainly when gaming. I would recommend this machine to anyone who is on a budget and wants a fast and capable laptop.

Dell Inspiron M5030 Laptop Computer - Classic Black Review

Pros: Price, enough RAM for day-to-day work, good display with a decent graphics chip for video playback, very little bloatware, good wireless connectivity, runs relatively cool with good battery life, webcam.

Cons: Said graphics chip isn't sufficient for gaming. Likewise, the single-core processor is a tad sluggish for multi-tasking. Not quite as bad as you'd think, but this is obviously not designed as a machine for gaming/zippy multi-media performance.

[ ... ]

[This AMD sits around the middle in performance benchmarks, toward the later half of that range. You can find some laptops in this price range with dual-core processors, albeit some with lower clock speeds combined with a bit less RAM.]

For the money (bought mine on sale at Micro Center for $269), the Inspiron m5030 is a good, sturdy laptop. Download Chrome, AVG and Malwarebytes, and you're good to go. However, keep in mind that this is a budget priced-machine (and I'm rating it as such). You get what you pay for. This Dell will be great for internet surfing with 3 or 4 browser tabs open (one on youtube or Pandora, of course), listening/storing music, watching a movie here and there, word processing and the like. But if you plan on playing graphically-intensive games or video editing while having a bunch of other programs running, look elsewhere. Otherwise, this will easily get you through the day.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron M5030 Laptop Computer - Classic Black

This has been the worst laptop i have ever had! It has been "repaired" three times by dell. All for problems with the laptop not charging or not recognizing the charger. Dells customer service is by far the worst that I have ever dealt with! The laptop is currently sitting under my desk waiting for me to figure out what to do with it since Dell in their infinite wisdom stated that my laptop would not charge due to "damage" that was not covered by my warranty. They said that the mother board needed to be replaced and i guess they did not want to cover their shotty equipment and wanted me to pay a 300 dollar service fee to have it repaired. I would say that is a bit ridiculous since that is almost the price of the laptop when i bought it. I will never buy another dell product due to their horrible customer service and cheaply made products. I expected a lot more from such a big name company. Buy a Sony Vaio if you are looking for a well made product, I had one before the dell and bought another one after the dell stopped working.

We've purchased about a dozen of these for clients so far this year. Very solid pieces of equipment and the i5 vPro CPU leaves nothing to be desired. The CPU is beefy and does consume some power, so you may want to get an optional 9-cell battery if you can't charge it often. For normal everyday use, you can disable one core in the BIOS and reduce the system to a dual-core (well, one core plus hyper-threading). Never disappointed with a T420.

I have used this model laptop at work and home and have never had any problems. It's fast and reliable. The ability to change the DVD writer out for a backup hard drive is great! I am using one at home with a docking station that lets me use it as a desktop when docked but I can just remove it and use it in any room also. (I like to have a larger screen when working on photos). If you put a SSD drive in, wow, boot times around 15 secs.

Apple iBook Laptop 14.1' M9009LL/A

When I was struck with the urge to buy a laptop, I spent a good deal of time reviewing the half dozen models that Apple had to offer. The Powerbooks were all the rage. My local dealer and many reviews pushed me in that direction; and, in truth, Powerbooks seemed to be technological wonders the 17" screen model dazzled, the little 12" one could be had with a DVD-burning super drive, they had the superb G4 processor, etc. But three weeks ago, I took the plunge, and I ignored all that by securing the 14" screen iBook. It may be "slow" and "yesterday's technology," but that's not apparent to me I love this computer!

It has a brilliant, beautiful screen that is a delight to my 60+ eyes. It does everything I need in a flash, including multiple programs, songs, photo management (Adobe Elements 2), and movies with iMovie. The suite of included software, including Apple's digital hub, is fabulous. The machine is gorgeous (though, to be frank, some might say its bright, white finish is akin to a kitchen appliance), extremely sturdy, and it gets warm, but not hot. Best of all, perhaps, is the price: hundreds less than a Powerbook! This is especially true when you factor in the cost of Applecare, the extended warranty program... Applecare provides terrific protection and allows you three years of telephone support from Apple's excellent technical support team.

"What's not to like?" I can only carp about three things. The speakers are pretty lame "lo-fi," to be sure but earphones cure that. Another USB input or two would be welcome, but a hub is the answer there. Finally, there is Apple's decision to eliminate a microphone input, this from a company on the leading edge of multi-media what were they thinking?...

So, for function, for appearance, and particularly for value, I'd urge you to take a long look at the iBook. It's just been bumped to 900MGz, and it has 256RAM standard, so unless you're into CAD/CAM or games with great graphics demands, it'll do the job for you, and you'll have money left over for some other toy(s).

I remember when the 14" iBook first came out, many in the Mac universe spoke poorly of it. Obviously, it cost more, and while the usual core features had more juice (Hard drive, processor, RAM,) the difference was not overwhelming. The main beef, though, was that the resolution on the 14" iBook is the same as the resolution on the 12" iBook (1024 X 768). The only difference is that, on the 12 incher, those dots are really scrunched in. I've used many of the 12" iBookse I work in IT, especially with Macs, so I've seen it all, and so feel qualified to take a side on this one. The verdict:

It's worth it.

I went to apple.com, and and browsed to a 12" iBook with comperable fatures to the one I recently acquired. The price offered was 1350. I got mine for about 1500, which leaves about 150 to account for. Since other factors are basically equal, the difference is the screen. You want that difference. The 14" iBook feels spacious, a real trick for a lap top. The screen's extra size makes the lower half of the laptop bigger as well, so that there really is room for the keyboard, and a large palm rest. The clean lines of the design really bring out the most in the display, which is bright and clear. If you've never used a laptop, the screen feels bigger, simply because you're usually closer to it. Additionally, LCDs have a larger usable area than a CRT of the same size. As I sit here typing this review, I can tell: You feel this screen's size.

Size does matter, especially with something like a laptop. If you get a smaller screen, you'll inevitably want a larger screen, but then you'll be stuck with an expensive purchase. So put in the extra cash now. If you have the means, treat yourself to 14" iBook. You'll be glad you did.

Before I say more let me give a little background, this is my first apple purchase and the first apple computer I have touched since apple II in school many many years ago. I have 5 home desktops each an upgraded pentium beginning with pent II and up to IV. My main desktop is a 1.8 mhz with 100 gig hd, 512ram best video card available and so on. Runs XP. I begin with this as it defines I am not an apple user, or wasn't. I bought this little machine after about 2 months of research, it began as a curiosity and then I have to admit my fustration with windows pushed me to seriously consider it. This is my third laptop. Ok I am VERY happy with this machine, it is the best computer I have had and I have hardly used my big desktop since getting this, it runs circles around my windows system, it is intuitive and everything works the minute you boot up. I have done everything to test this baby out and it will not crash. I love this, and the white finish is really classy. The screen is crisp, clear, it comes loaded with about every program you need. Did I say I love it?? Only one item I wish apple would have done on this model, I love the lit up keyboard in the top of the line power book, come on apple make that standard! Someone complained about the keyboard and I admit it has a different feel but all in all this is a four 1/2 star machine, what would make it five...better speakers, lit up keyboard! BTW I bought the ipod with it and they are the perfect match!

Honest reviews on Apple iBook Laptop 14.1" M9009LL/A (900-MHz PowerPC G3, 256 MB RAM

I have the 800 mhz model, and I have to say it's a great machine. Light in weight (I can hold it in one hand easily), fast, and super sleek. The operating system, OS X, is fantastic: powerful, beautiful, and it doesn't crash! The book comes with quite a bit of software, and despite what someone else wrote here it DOES run RealPlayer just fine, as well as display web pages properly. It comes with AppleWorks which can open and save in the Word format, so that is a non-issue.

It plays DVD's perfectly, and iTunes 4 burns CD's as fast as my external FireWire drive. If the speakers were just a bit better (i.e. as good as the legendary Pismo model), I would give this Mac 5 stars.

BTW, before relying on a Windows user for info about Macs, talk to a knowledgeable dual platform user such as myself. You'd find the stuff you hear (they are slow, over priced, Apple is dying, etc.) is just not true.

Apple is really doing a great job with this iBook line. Sleek, compact and great looking they have a lot of bang for the buck. My Mother, who switched from Macs to PCs years ago, switched back to the mac with this iBook. She loves it. These books come with a buch of software that will set most people up just fine: Quicken, World Book Encyclopedia, Otto Matic (game), FaxSTF, iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes, Preview (for graphics viewing, and others as well as AppleWorks which has Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database and Drawing/Painting. AppleWorks can even open, edit and save Microsoft Word and Excel files from other Macs or PCs talk about compatability! Plus they have lots of computing power don't let the 900Mhz thing fool you. Macs have a very different processor from PCs with Intel chips. This laptop has plenty of punch for the things that most of the world does.

I am surprised at the negative review posted here. I suspect that the reviewer didn't really look at what she had already installed. As for the RealPlayer? I use it all the time on my Mac, and it is the free one.

I would definately buy one of these again (although I do think that the iBook 900 with the 12" screen is a better buy. The specs are similar and it is a little more compact.)

Bought this laptop a couple weeks ago. I love it, was in need of a new computer due to. My other one being so outdated it wouldn't download new software so I couldn't do school work much less anything else. My hubby bought himself one also. I don't know much about computers but this one is great! Fast, durable, small , and has a webcam so I can talk to the fam :) I am completely satisfied!

Got this laptop just over a year ago while visiting my uncle in the States. It was a steal for $350, but laptop prices are always falling. The list price on this page seems whack tho... It's 14" so it's very mobile, battery life is pretty good, and everything else is above what you'd expect for $350. The dual-core processor and 4GB ram make it a snappy little machine.

When I got it first thing I did was format the drive and reinstall windows 7 minus all the pre-installed bloatware that would otherwise slow it down. I've added an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD drive to make it faster and more reliable for DJing and live audio/video performances, working out some kinks with random crashes on the SSD, pretty sure I can solve it.

The display is starting to flicker red when tilted to certain angles, needs a gentle tap or adjustment to go back to normal... so I take that as an example of flimsy build quality combined with my heavy use of it on the road. Take better care of it and be mindful of never covering the fan exhaust vent and it should last you a while. HP has had over heating issues in the past but I think most of those issues have been solved with newer post 2010 models.

Performance wise I'm able to do basic media related tasks like video editing with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, audio editing, and some video compositing with After Effects. With the SSD it handles DJing and VJing apps like Resolume and VirtualDJ like a breeze thanks to the AMD/ATi graphics chip, which is way better than standard "Intel graphics" which often will not let you run any video jockeying software.

Hp was loosing out on quality in the last few years but it seems they come up with some good products to put them right back into the game, exhibit HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b085nr (this laptop).

The laptop has a very sturdy feel to it and makes up for the slower processor with its stylish looks. It lacks a backlit keyboard and a high resolution screen and the lack of a touch screen does make windows 8 somewhat difficult to use. But you get what you pay for and for just over $400, that's somewhat a steal of a deal.

Overall, I'd recommend this product to anyone whose looking for a fast enough processor to get some MS Office work done, surf the internet and multitask a little thanks to the 4GB RAM.

I am a long time Dell customer, who has had just about one of every version of the Dell Latitude in since the C series. Because of pricing differences, I decided to give HP a try with the HP 8560P and am very impressed with it. The design is well thought out, the build quality is first class, and the performance is unbeatable.

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this machine, except for possibly its weight and the fact that HP hasn't refreshed their docking stations to match the performance of the laptop. Even the best docking station they have available for this laptop has no modem pass-through, only 2 digital video ports at a time, and USB 2.0 instead of 3.0.

The keyboard on this laptop has a unique design that works and feels great. Its design prevents spills or dirt from getting into the machine.

The new touch-pad is gigantic and works great. There is an "eraser head" mouse in the center of the keyboard for people who prefer to keep their fingers on the keys. Both can be deactivated in the software if you prefer for them to be off while you use your external mouse.

The screen and audio is wonderful.

The hing is solid and firm. Much better than on the Dell's.

The performance of this machine is incredible. I rendered a video in Premiere, while running a various scan, copying a DVD, and playing HD contact from Netflix all at the same time. Incredible.

For the price, this is the best machine on the market. I highly recommend it, or a custom build version of it direct from HP.

This machine is outstanding! The seller was really helpful. Chatted with me on the phone to make sure it was exactly as listed. Every detail was accurate. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that if a regular consumer bought this like it was coming from Walmart they would be disappointed. The machine came with a base Win7 Pro build. I'm a Software Engineer by trade and spent an afternoon downloading drivers to match this specific hardware.. Needed USB 3.0, Video, Bluetooth, Wifi, and ALL of the matching version/build for the HP Protect Tools. Once I found and installed everything the machine was perfect. This box is a rocket! Comes in at or near the top of every benchmark I've run. If you are comfortable doing download/setup/install I would strongly recommend this machine. The Keyboard has great feel and good key spacing. The touch pad feels like glass (it is). All of my other toys were plug and play. I would recommend this to a friend.

It's cheap, has a camera & mic, DVD/CD recorder, 2 cores, a decent 320 gig hard drive, wireless, 4 gigs of ram, and the newest version of windows. Nuff said. everything works great. The only other person who rated this rated based their review on the seller. I hate when people do that. Even if the battery did fail, the manufacturer warranty guarantees it. Plus I have always big a supporter of Samsung products. Most of my electronics are Samsung.

My first laptop was a Dell. It cost me $1,500, and absolutely died in 2 years. Now all I get are these simple cutting edge entry level laptops, and I highly recommend them. Unless you are a gamer, these do absolutely everything you would ever need. The meat and potatoes of laptops.

I got this laptop as a gift from my Mom. She got it for around the same price you see here on amazon. I'll break this review down into a few sections.

Performance:

This computer was pretty fast when you first get it. After a while, like any other computer, it slows down a bit.

Graphics:

This laptop will definitely run old games such as Star Wars BattleFront II, GTA San Andreas, and a few other not-so-graphic-intensive titles. It was advertised as a "gaming" laptop, but don't let them fool you. It has a poor graphics card that has trouble running a lot of things.

The Outside and Keyboard:

The outside of the computer is pretty cool in my opinion. It has a wavy texture that prevents almost all smudges and all fingerprints. This wavy texture continues around the mouse pad and keyboard. There are 3 USB ports and there is 1 HDMI cable spot. There is also an input for another monitor and of course, an ethernet port. The keyboard is odd to me. The keys are aranged so that there are gaps in between them so that EVERYTHING can get in between. This means you're going to have to pry off the keys a lot to get crap out from under them.

Audio:

This computer came with only 1, off center, mono speaker. The speaker isn't very loud and, as I said, is off center (to the left.) This doesn't bother me too much but it has potential to be annoying. Don't buy this computer if you're planning to blast music. (You can connect speakers and they'll sound fine/loud)

Resolution:

The resolution is my only major complaint about this laptop. It's set up with the dreadful 1366x768 resolution. If you don't know what resolution is: Resolution determines how much you can fit on your screen at a time. If you're a multi-tasker, you want a higher resolution. 1366x768 is just about the lowest resolution it can go and still function. It works, but you may sacrifice some graphics with some games and videos.

Windows Experience Index:

The Windows Experience Index is just a benchmarking system that tells you your computer's overall performance. The scale goes from 1.0 to a 7.9. Here are the results from my (unmodified) laptop:

Processor (what's rated: Calculations per second) 3.9

RAM (what's rated: Memory operations per second) 5.9 (You really don't need much RAM, especially if it's not going to be utilized by the low-end CPU (processor))

Graphics (what's rated: Desktop Performance) 4.5

Gaming Graphics (what's rated: 3D business and gaming graphics performance) 4.5

Primary Hard Disk (what's rated: Disk data transfer rate) 5.8

Summary:

I've had this computer for a year or two now. The "gaming" graphics are pretty horrific, so don't try running anything intense. The Resolution is pretty crappy, but you won't notice it if you're not thinking about it; everything fits on the screen nicely. This is a mid-range, average laptop. This is a good computer for a good price. I'm happy with it.

overall, this laptop runs well. It's fast enough, can handle some fairly intense applications (audio and video) not as quickly as a real workstation, but it does a good job for what it is. Not a gamers box..

Battery life is great, no complaints.

The screen is nice, great pictures/colors/detail.

The volume is WAY TO LOW. I've not looked for hacks to fix this and hope it's not a hardware issue, but I've purchased a couple of these laptops and all suffer from this issue. Yes, volume up in control panel and app, all the way. I've considered installing Linux on it to rule out a hardware issue, but I'm really not thinking it's worth it. I'm just going to leave computer speakers at work and home.

Sound is great and loud with headphones.

The keyboard... perhaps my biggest complaint. there is a numeric pad on the right side but it is not separated from the standard part of the keyboard. Because of this it's a very difficult keyboard to get used to. VERY hard to find "home," cursor control keys way too small and awkwardly placed. The hard to find keys are even harder to find in the dark as they are butted up against the num pad.

Much of this would not be a problem if there was some space in between alphs keyboard & the numeric pad. Also, if the keyboard were lit it would be so much easier to use. IMO ALL laptops should have lit keyboards.

Despite it's nice features, for me, the keyboard is so painful to use I am likely going to turn this one into a media controller or something and get another beater that fits me better.

All that being said, it works well considering the price. Someone who only uses 1 keyboard might find it more intuitive. Kids adapt well to keyboard changes and my kids love to use this laptop..

A great price for a full laptop computer. It does everything I want it to do. Very good display. I am pleased with my purchase.

Honest reviews on Gateway NV51B35u 15.6-Inch Laptop (Satin Black)

Got this laptop for my parents who are 83 and 81 years old. They love it. It was easy to set up and works great with their new wireless setup. I added an external keyboard and mouse for them as the laptop keyboard is a little too small for them to see well, but otherwise, it has been a great computer for them and they really like it.

To start I'll say I've purchased many of the Acer models similar to this. They work great, and are at a very low price point.

Good: As always nice screen... bright. Its inexpensive. Tech support was easy to work with. This processor is a good one. Includes high def graphics. Fine for WOW or some of your other games, nothing too intense. 4 GB of RAM is awesome for the price. Shipping was very fast, as I have prime. Took 1 day instead of 2.

Bad: Keyboard sucks. Absolutely awful, i've had many customers very upset about the keyboard. First one I opened of this was bad out of the box. Wouldn't charge the battery. Tried another battery, and it still didn't charge, tried another cord, still didn't work. Thus the motherboard was bad out of the box. Called Tech support and explained what I did, he simply said okay, lets get it in. Sent me a fedex label which was good. Bad is they said it'll be 7-10 days to get it back.

To note: Overall for the price I'd say its good. Computers are just not made like they used to, but at the same time they used to be 1200 dollars... then 800... 600... and now you can get a halfway decent one for under 400..

My son has Beats head phones and they make everything sound amazing. Bought this laptop thinking the speaker sound would be as amazing since it has Beats in it....read reviews that said they sounded great...not impressed. Speakers are not much different from other lap tops we have.

I hate this laptop. Since day one, I've had nothing but problems. Problems with the keyboard, the mouse, internet access, speed, etc. Customer service is not helpful whatsoever. This is my first Dell and DEFINITELY will be my last. I hate it with pure passion.

Computer gets very warm on the bottom and would not sync up with our wireless router-called Dell SEVERAL times-got cut off (hung up on "accidentally"?) three times and had to start over again. Customer service in India kept passing me off to different people until finally, got hung up on again. As soon as you say you want to send it back to Dell, they don't care about you. At one point I was told that for a fee they could help me connect to the internet! Alas, I am packing it up and sending it back from whence it came! I wish I could write about the features but I only had it for 3 days and couldn't get online so I can't coment. Dell Customer Care leaves much to be desired-NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY DELL!!

I bought this computer a few months back and I have found it to be solid, reliable, and well worth the reasonable price.

Things go wrong with computers all the time. For the other commenters to assert that THIS particular model of Dell is sub-par is just unfair. Its the luck of the draw if you ask me.

Anyways, for me it was well worth the money and a great investment.

Really great machine in all aspects. The processor is fast and I haven't had any major problems since owning it. Also nice is the battery life has remained constant since I've bought it. Would definitely recommend!

I bought this laptop at BestBuy during the Christmas Holidays in 2012 because my old Toshiba puked on me that same week. I bought my old Satellite A105-S4334 while stationed in Iraq in January of 2006 and it was a work horse. In fact the only thing wrong with it is the fan is broke otherwise it would be up and running. This new laptop is the same but much lighter and it runs WIN 8-64. Very fast start-up, lower power usage, and it upgrades by itself and it finds my wireless by itself also. My cost was three-hundred dollars more than the one posted here in Amazon so I think it is a very good price. Oh and one more thing, I have zero issues with running WIN 8 OS with its given RAM of 4gb.

There are many things to love about the Toshiba L675. The screen is fantastic. It's bright and wide and clear and easy to read. I also like the traditional PC numeric keypad to my right. As a former bookkeeper, it makes adding up lots of numbers easy work. The Toshiba L675 has lots of memory, and as an architectural historian and writer, I need that. My last laptop had more than 30,000 high-res photos. This new laptop has plenty of space for ten times that many photos.

However, if I had to buy a $700 laptop again, I think I would spend my hard-earned dollars elsewhere. I've already had a significant problem for which I had to talk to tech support (in the Philippines) and their remedy was not impressive. In short, if this problem (discussed below) is not resolved, I have learned that it will be my personal responsibility to reformat the computer and reload all software and only then will Toshiba pay for return shipping. And then, it's a two-to-four week wait before I have a laptop again.

The problem: The Toshiba laptop gets into some kind of weird loop where it will not allow me to type normally. Keystrokes do not result in letters appearing onscreen. I type at 100 wpm and yet when this problem arises, I have no choice but to type about four words per minute, pressing each keystroke slowly and then waiting for the corresponding letter to appear on screen. It's bizarre and maddening. One day, I was ready to take the laptop outside to the woodshed and "fix" it, once and for all with my 20-pound sledgehammer. I'm a writer and I can not tolerate an ill-behaved, recalcitrant laptop.

In desperation, I called Toshiba and after the obligatory 24-minute hold, I reached "Miguel."

Toshiba's solution is this: About once every 7-10 days (when the problem occurs), I have to turn the computer off, remove the battery, depress the start button for 15 seconds (to completely drain any power) and then restart the computer sans battery. After following this procedure, Lappy returns to normality.

I'm disappointed that this is Toshiba's best solution to this odd problem. I'm disappointed that if I grow weary of this maddening problem, I have to deal with reformatting the computer and fiddling around with it for who knows how long.

However, this purchase represented a tremendous investment. I feel stuck. And so I continue, about once every 7-10 days, turning off the computer, removing the battery, depressing the start button for 15 seconds...

In the meantime, I had the hard drive on my old laptop replaced. When you have a Toshiba, it's good to keep a spare laptop in the house.

This is my third laptop and I think this was an awesome BUY! Great price for the stuff(bought it from Costco $699), very nice bright pleasant screen (I wanted to have a big screen17.3") and graphics are awesome, speed is great too with 4GB RAM. I have plenty of hard drive( 500 GB)to store videos/pictures. I am satisfied with the audio loud clear sound. The only cons I feel so far is WebCam seems to be cheap picture quality not that good. I didn't have web cam in my other laptops, so my expectations were high. Also, I was video calling international contacts... just haven't tried enough yet. But overall I am very happy with this laptop.

I JUST LOVE IT !!!

I have been very happy with this laptop. I purchased it to provide a portable CAD-CAM computer that would function fast enough to use in front of clients. The Intel Core i3 chip, combined with 4 gigabytes of RAM is more than capable of performing this task. I use it with a mouse and like the fact that I can easily switch off the touchpad (recessed switch below the space bar) which frees me to use the keyboard without fear of accidentally triggering a catastrophe as my hand inadvertently brushes the touchpad. I have large hands, and the full-size keyboard, as well as the separate number pad were important to me. Battery life is better than I expected, even when using the external mouse; rendering drawings doesn't seem to have much effect on the battery. There are a few negatives (and I use that term loosely) with this computer. First, the button that opens and closes the carriage on the DVD/CD drive is recessed and usually usually requires several pokes and a peek at the side before I am successful in opening it. Second, be aware that the 17.3 inch screen means that the laptop is wider than most and your selection of laptop briefcases will be limited and more expensive than with smaller units. The only real negative I have found is with the installed RAM. There are two available slots and each slot is populated with 2 GB, meaning that if you wish to increase the memory (as I wanted to do) you will need to discard one or both of the existing memory cards. I like the fact that it came with 4 gigabytes of RAM, but wish that Toshiba had chosen to do so using one single 4 GB card, which would have made it very easy to add another 4 GB to bring it to the maximum possible 8 GB. Still, I would recommend this lap top without hesitation.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L675-S7018 LED TruBrite 17.3-Inch Laptop (Grey)

Like so many others I got a screaming deal on my machine from Costco. I think the screen is great, the hardware for the price is great, the bloatware is tolerable, Toshiba has a good track record, but the keyboard is a pain. Despite the feel (which is a bit awkward, if you do any more than minimal typing you're going to get mad. Keys that are hit once will respond twice, keys hit once or twice may not respond at all. The lady who said to take the battery out, hold down the power switch for 10 seconds, and replace the battery was right on. It DOES fix the problem, temporarily. Thanks to her for the advice.

I used to like Toshiba computers until I upgraded to the Satellite L675. The price seemed good, and the memory and processing speed appeared fantastic. However, shortly after starting to use this computer, I found the keyboard to be terrible. It is slow to respond and will often not respond at all. I was a fast typist before using the L675. It is a terrible machine. It even messes up web addresses, passwords, simple searches. Toshiba has, as far as I can tell, offered NO support to the dozens of people who like me complain on-line. Shame on Toshiba for offering a terrible product, and shame on Toshiba for not offering a means to fix it. If it can't be fixed, Toshiba should replace these computers with ones that work. (I had to correct about 30 typing errors and I rarely make mistakes -here's an example of direct typing on this machine -thi is an exampleof wht it swould look lke if I were o type directly and nt attept to fix any errs due to the inaccurat keyboad response.
