Slim, sleek, lightweight and fast. Great screen. Keyboard is good, and the overall fit and finish is good silver body better than my dark blue laptop, which is a fingerprint magnet. W7 working well. I actually bought this for my wife she loves it. I may get one for me.

This is the first computer/laptop that was not an H. P. I was out of my comfort zone when I purchased this one. For a short while I had a Samsung Series 3. I like the Acer laptop better than the Samsung laptop. The other thing was the Acers Windows 7 is more user friendly than Samsung Windows 8. This Acer laptop speaker has a really poor sound quality compared to the other computers. This is the only complaint I have. Good Luck.

I've had it for a few weeks and the touchpad is a bit sensitive and I'm just starting to get used to that, but the computer seems pretty fast and nice so far, otherwise. Very thin and lightweight. Happy with my purchase.

this is my second acer laptop and it's doing me well. getting this much RAM for the price made it worth the purchase. the screen is large and overall quite light. and it didn't come with windows 8, so that was a plus

at a first glance this lap top blew my mind with its sleek look, bold colors, smooth operation and break neck speed when running games, but upon further inspection, i realized that (in my opinion) windows 8 wasn't all it cracked up to be, and what was especially a bummer was the fact that it gives you hell to downgrade to a lower more familiar version. But all in all it is a steal of a buy. If i had a chance to buy it again, the only thing i would do differently is get it in windows 7 lol

I've had good experiences with you in the past, but this Acer laptop I bought from your site for $553.20 (order #002-2809933-d1921830) has been nothing but an ordeal!!!! The sound didn't function (I could barely hear it, even though all levels were at maximum)...I paid $80 for a computer tech, who couldn't fix it, so I had to ship it to Acer for repair (box COST ME $10). I probably could have sent it back to you, but sent it to Acer, who said they'd try and fix it. I won't buy another big ticket item from you, I can assure you (if I buy anything at all in the future!)

And I have had four Acers...some bought through Amazon...and have had years of trouble free computing. I have not purchased this particular model, but the last line indicates that the reviewer will never buy another Acer...or purchase a computer from Amazon. The experience of the previous reviewer is unfortunate, but has not been my experience at all.

To you suppose that maybe you just got a bad one? Amazon would have helped you work through this.

Honest reviews on Acer Notebook TM5744-6870;NX.V5MAA.003 15.6-Inch Laptop

Audio is obviously "bad' , both via the built in loudspeakers, and with 3rd party loudspeakers ( external) which work brilliantly on my MacBook. Voice sounds like the person speaking is on helium, and music is just plain pathetic. Customer Support tried to help but were unable to come up with any worthwhile suggestions other than "I would suggest that you to perform a system recovery from the hard drive partition to resolve the issue. If the issue related to software, it will be resolved by performing a recovery.

Please note that all your personal data files and applications will be lost, if you perform a recovery. Be sure that back up all the data before performing a recovery. Sometimes the steps below fail to launch the recovery on the first attempt. It is important to launch the recovery using this method at least twice."

Not the kind of message I expect to get for a brand new computer

Within 3 hours of opening I have rebooted 7 times due to system unresponsiveness. I have not installed any new software, right out of the box. Actually, just to get back to Amazon.com to write this review I had to wait 3 minutes for Internet explorer to open and received "Windows Explorer is not Responding" error twice.

I purchase notebooks for our office all the time... This is the first I have purchased from Amazon and by Acer.... It will be the last from either. Horrible product.

This is an excellent laptop as well as a very good value. I did much research on the web and on foot.

I found nothing else in stores or online that was as much computer with equal price. I would recommend

this laptop to anyone on a tight budget. Service and prompt shipping made the deal even better.

I must beg to differ from the positive reviews given so far. Yes, the screen is bright and 16:9 (HDTV aspect ratio); yes, the computer wakes up and works quickly; but basic flaws in the physical layout of the machine make using it often a huge headache.

The worst element of the design is the trackpad. Large trackpads are nice--but the reason Apple's giant trackpads work well is that they are smart--they know the difference between an intentional finger swipe and the accidental touch of a palm. Even after six weeks of using this laptop, I still find myself accidentally brushing the trackpad with the meaty part of my thumbs while typing--and moving the cursor halfway across the screen. All of a sudden, I find myself typing 30 lines further down my email, or worse, the cursor lands on a navigation button and directs me away from the website I was typing on, resulting in me losing my work. Another major flaw of the trackpad is that rather than give a true left and right click button, HP chose to put one long plastic strip across both buttons, which is supported from underneath in the center. You cannot press the middle, and the further you get from center, the easier it is to click. This means that the natural spot to left-click is nearly four inches away from the natural spot to right-click. This makes all sorts of tasks like cutting and pasting, renaming folders, et cetera, far more awkward than they need be.

The keyboard is also awkward, with a strip of audio control buttons to the left of tab, caps lock and shift. This results in many accidental presses of Caps lock. Also, the speakers are extremely quiet, even at maximum volume. Not great if you want to use it as the multimedia machine it otherwise could be.

Bottom line: if you have $400 to spend on a laptop, you can do a lot better than the HP 620.

Honest reviews on HP 620 WZ294UT 15.6" Notebook (2.3 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core

I bought this laptop for temporary use when my Thinkpad screen broke and I was waiting to get a replacement screen. I must say for its price, this laptop is a steal. It is fast, strong and works well. It's doesn't have a glamorous design, but who cares, as long as it woks well, I'm ok with it. So far, I haven't had any problems. The display is wonderful, much better than my thinkpad. The keyborad design is a little bit flat but its poses no problems once you get used to it. The trackpad is a little bit large and doesn't distinguish between the left and right click buttons but you can solve that problem by the use of a wireless mouse. To summarize: it offers value for money, fast processing, and if you can get beyond the keyboard and trackpad design, it is the best laptop you can get for a $350 to $400 price range.

Although this laptop makes a few sacrifices in quality for the sake of bringing you affordable power, it is really a great little, or should I say BIG, laptop.

First off I want to address the overheating issues that others mentioned. I originally thought that my G72 was overheating too. It would randomly slow down during games sometimes and it didn't seem to me to be linked to how hard it was working. I would usually just restart the laptop and it would be fine. Then I noticed that it seemed to only do it when I played games after waking it up from sleep mode. I stopped using the sleep and haven't had the problem once in literally months. I'm not sure exactly what's causing it but it definitely seems to be linked to the sleep. It is probably a driver problem or something. This laptop in fact has great heat management. I have played Shogun 2 Total War on max tubo gear(the little overclocking program that comes with it) and on max setting(almost) for literaly hours at a time without any overheating problems.

The Pros: This laptop has great power for the money. Even today the GTX 260M GPU is no slouch. You can run games like Oblivion, Medieval 2 Total war, Bioshock, Batman Arkham Asylum and other such games on full setting with no problem at all. The newest game I have played on it is Shogun 2 Total War. I run it with the best settings except for some of the fancier shadow effects, I don't use blur effects and only use 4x anti aliasing. It does very well. The larger battles slow down a bit but over all it's very playable. The laptop is also pretty cool looking with the lights and stuff. It has decent battery life for the type of laptop(about 2hrs). I mean let's face it, for gaming laptops the batery is just to get you from one outlet to the next.

The Cons: This laptop isn't perfect though. I only gave it 5 stars to ballance out the other two reviews that I thought were misunderstanding the heating problem. My biggest complaint with this laptop is the screen. It's not terrible. The refresh rate is good. You don't get streaks and blurs when the action is going. The problem is the colors. I've just seen better color ballancing on other screens. The other problem is it's a little picky about the angle you look at it. The construction of the laptop is also a little on the plasticky side if you know what I mean. I guess you have to skimp somewhere to get the price down.

Over all I was very pleased with this laptop. Had it for almost 2 years now and it's still running great. The screen flickers sometimes but I think that's just due to a dirty connection. When I bought it it was $1000 but even now $670 is a good price for this machine.

I have purchased 2 of these systems and let me tell you it is a stable rig. First off, the 1600 x 900 resolution and the 1GB video card were enough to get some of the best games to run on High. I have moved on but the two friends I gave them to are still using them and they are running smoothly. The CPU is a bit slow for me but a Duo 2.7 GHz is enough to get the job down. I was able to play Diablo 3 and star craft 2 on ultra settings and even arma 2 ran okay. If you are looking for a stable gaming rig that you want on the go and do not feeling spending an arm, leg and 2 children on an alienware, this is your choice. I used this when I was in college when I had long waits between classes and for LAN parties with my friends.

Best Deals for Asus G72GX RBBX05 Notebook PC

I've had this laptop for over a year and it's my favorite thing ever.

This laptop runs almost everything. There is some lagging on say Civilizations V and GTA IV, but you can overclock this easily. On that, definitely get a cooling fan for this laptop, as it really helps to increase the life and play of this laptop. Asus makes very quality products for a relatively low price. A definite must.

I rate this a 5/5, but there is one thing that will have to be attended to either right away or months down the line. Once it happens, it requires hardware work every couple of months. The cord for the laptop (I forget the name of it on the top of my head) was made too short and Asus had it designed to be held with simple hard scotch tape. When it disconnects, all you get is a white screen when the brightness is on max and black when it's not. There is a video to fix it, so it's not a complete loss.

Besides that, a very customizable laptop (two hard drive bays!) and runs so many games smoothly. Of course most likely outdated now (technology moves quick) but it's still good enough to play even new games at the best settings (Ultra settings Skyrim is possible even without overclocking).

Also, rip off the shields on both sides for the USB ports and Headphone/Mic jacks. They're annoying.

Honest reviews on Asus G72GX RBBX05 Notebook PC

This laptop is amazing! It powers through all the games in my Steam Library. The Nvidia GTX 260m is very fast and over clocks nicely providing for excellent frame rates. The 500GB hard drive is very roomy with plenty of space for all my 100GB+ Steam folder. This laptop is a true mobile gaming beast! Buy it now, you won't be disappointed! The battery life is a bit short but that's normal for computer of such processing magnitude.

I bought it year and half ago and it's still running as new. For gaming laptop under 1000$ I consider it very good. Very powerful for that time it could run majority of games on high settings. A little bit heat doesn't bother me if you put it on the table. I also connect it to 24inch monitor if I need a big screen to work. Plenty of memory let me work with internet without any delay.

I originally purchased this computer from my local Best Buy store and have been very impressed with its performance. The screen folds effortlessly 360 degrees into a tablet and the software transitions very smoothly while disabling the keyboard to prevent the keys from being pressed inadvertently. Windows 8 shines with a touchscreen interface and i5 Intel Processor in this computer keeps this machine running FAST. Boots in seconds from a 128gb SSD and is very lightweight to carry. Build quality is solid unlike some of the other touchscreen windows 8 PCs that BB/Amazon offers (I had to return several others before settling on this one). Only recommendation is to purchase a case for it as the exterior paint tends to scratch easily.

Overall this is the best quality touchscreen Win8 notebook on the market for the money.

Buy Razer Blade 17 Inch Gaming Laptop

Razer Blade 17 Inch Gaming Laptop
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars
Buy Now
I had my eye on the Razer Blade Laptop since it was announced two years ago and bought mine in February. After owning the notebook for six months now would like to share my impressions. Having owned a plethora of gaming laptops over the years (DELL XPS 17, ASUS Gamers Republic G73 series, Alienware M15X, M17X, even the huge M18X) I can say without any reservation this is the lightest, sleekest, most portable gaming laptop I've ever owned, and the only one like it on the market as of right now.

Aesthetically, the Razer Blade has all the sleek, unibody looks of the Apple Macbook line, thought it is a matte black aluminum laptop rather than silver. Razer has really designed this unit with gamers in mind. For example, the 17.3" 1080P display is matte with excellent contrast and color reproduction. The keyboard has an anti-ghosting feature (I'm not sure what the other reviewer was complaining about as neither my screen nor keys have ever suffered from ghosting in any scenario). Even the side fans blow hot exhaust back away from the gamer which is a plus. With the aluminum construction the Blade is a solid, well designed piece of hardware.

The most unique feature of the Blade is of course the Switchblade UI, which includes a color video touchpad located to the right of the keyboard, and 10 customizable LED icons. While the location of the trackpad is awkward at first and takes a day or so to become accustomed to, it is a delight to use. Razer regularly updates the Switchblade software, adding new icons and customization features. I, however, have enjoyed more than anything, creating my own icons for apps and games and shortcuts. I press the game icon and my game list profile launches with a list of 20 games, each with their own launch icon. I can slide back and forth on the display using a three finger side scroll, and select Max Payne 3 (yes, the Blade runs it just fine), and then my Max Payne 3 custom profile launches. Bring this thing to a lan party and watch the folks "Ooh and ahh" as you switch back and forth using custom icons. It really does make this laptop one of a kind.

Performance-wise, the Blade is an upper-middle class gaming laptop. This means its somewhat comparable to the Alienware M14X (2011 edition). It features some of the best of last years tech, including a dual core Sandy Bridge i7 CPU, which is quite fast and capable, and runs cooler than the quadcore (also preserving battery life), as well as an NVIDIA 555M GT Graphics Card. With the most current driver, the Blade scores 12530 running 3DMark06. Of course, with the advent of Ivy Bridge and Nvidia's Kepler 6XXX series GPUs, the question is, "Is the Blade still all that powerful?" Well, it was never the most powerful laptop to begin with. My M18X with crossfire outperformed the Blade in every test. Moreover, Ivy Bridge has better performance benchmarks, not to mention better integrated GFX and better battery life. The Geforce 650M has shown itself to be an impressive card as well (Macbook Retina anyone?). These are two upgrades people are hoping for in the next iteration of the Blade (maybe Q4 this year or early next year, no one really knows). As someone who typically keeps their laptop for less than a year, I had mulled selling my Blade a while back but have decided to keep it, at least until I see what Razer's next big offering looks like. Here's my rational for doing so, as well as my advice to those considering pulling the trigger and buying this unique laptop (on sale with 10% off for students right now BTW):

1. This is still a very powerful gaming laptop. Aside from Metro 2033, I have yet to find a game that I can't play on this machine with respectable framerates, high resolution (nearly all my games I play at 1080p, and one or two I drop the resolution down to 1600P or 720p), and high textures. I play Skyrim at 1080P with the high res textures pack, and ultra settings, with only the filter lowered, and average 40+ FPS. Battlefield 3 I lower to 720P but play it maxed out, Dirt 3 maxed out at 1080P, Max Payne 3 at 1080P with low shadows, Spec Ops the Line maxed out, MW3 plays flawlessly maxed out. So all that to say this may have 2011 tech in it, but there aren't any modern PC games that this unit can't play well, leaving me with a satisfied smile.

2. This is still the most portable gaming laptop. The only laptop I would compare this one to as of right now would be the Macbook Pro 17, which was discontinued this year actually. The Blade is thinner than the 17 at less than an inch, is just as light, just as portable. You won't simply won't find another 17" notebook with gaming specs as high as this, that is as portable as the Blade. I would also point out the Blade also comes with a power adapter that is also an inch thick, and weighs about as much as a TV remote. I can actually put the adapter in my pocket and carry the Blade under my arm. Coming from an M18x with a 3lb adapter, its a refreshing thing. I would say if you want a comparable 17" notebook and like OSX, the Macbook Pro 17 2011 is really your only other option. But again, as of right now, you still won't find a 17" laptop with these specs and with this level of portability.

3. This is still the most unique gaming laptop. While you can't change the color of the keyboard (ala Alienware and a few other models), the Razer Blade is still the only notebook on the market that allows you to change your actual keys and touchpad for that matter. You won't find freedom to customize your PC experience anywhere else as of right now. Kudos to Razer for having the chutzpah to bring an innovative product like this to the market before anybody else.

So, is the Razer Blade for you? If you want the most powerful Ivy Bridge, Kepler-infused Gaming Laptop on the market as of right now, then no. Its not the most powerful, not by a long shot. That was never Razer's goal. But if you are in the market for the most portable, most unique, and in my opinion, most attractive 17" gaming laptop currently available, then look no further than the Razer Blade.

I recently purchased this from Tiger Direct for roughly 1499 US dollars, and I have to say, when looking at the specs in contrast to other machines this size, it was a steal that I couldn't pass up. Amazon is now offering this model as well for 1499, and their shipping and return policy is much better than Tiger Direct's, so I'd go with them.

Design: Absolutely beautiful, albeit absolutely inspired by another fruit related company. However, I think that this laptop is even more aesthetically pleasing than Macbook Pro's uni-body design. From the black aluminum exterior, green illuminated keyboard, to the totally cool, albeit slightly gimmicky Switchblade UI trackpad, this thing screams bad ass! It's rigid, and feels perfect for toting around. Other 17" laptops of this class are just monsters, and that makes carrying them around a hassle for sure.

Performance: Okay, this is where I would've been mad if I spent the full MSRP at launch (2899 US Dollars). With a dual core Intel i7, 8gb Ram, 256 Gb SSD, the specs looks pretty damn good, until you get to the GPU, which is a fairly mediocre GT555m. Now i'm not saying this thing can't game, because it can, but you shouldn't go into it wanting top performance out of every game. Yeah, I bought this wanting to game, but I also bought this to write papers on and what not. So in that sense, and for a moderate gaming machine, this is an absolute ideal laptop. As long as you're not expecting the absolute best performance, you'll be super satisfied with the laptop's performance (and if "extreme" performance is your forte', build a desktop.)

Software: Windows PC's are notorious for their hard drive being inundated with crap software, but the Razer Blade completely shunts that ideal and instead has just the bare essentials on it; a clean install of Windows 7, their Synapse 2.0 software for customization and update management, to Windows Live Essentials, this thing has the perfect amount of usable software I've ever seen on a new laptop.

Overall: This has been my absolute favorite laptop I've ever owned. I've owned the prestigious Macbook Pro 15" Retina, all the way to Dell's business Vostro 13" laptop, and this baby beats them all. Windows 7, IMO, is just so much more intuitive than OSX, and the Switchblade UI trackpad is truly cool, and adds such a unique taste to laptops that seem to just rinse and repeat. If you can snag this for the aforementioned price, this is an absolute steal, not only for a general purpose laptop, but for gaming and other heavy media stuff as well. I highly recommend it!

Best Deals for Razer Blade 17 Inch Gaming Laptop

I recently purchased this blade because it Carries portability, large workspace, and power. The blade is portable and powerful, however there are three issues that buyers should know. First, with it's thin design and its long length finding a backpack that it fits comfortably in is difficult, initial startup on the blade 1st gen is glitchy for a couple of hours until the drivers and essentials are updated(battery would not charge for about 5hrs after booting, keyboard and sidescreen freeze up multiple times durring the first day, does still freeze when awaking from hibernate), does not include any for of Microsoft office. Those are the only problems I have ran into with my blade and with the 1080p matte screen and high contrast colors , amusingly slim design, and antimacbook look I would recomend this over an alienware m14x not because of power but because of efficiency, battery life is approx 2hrs gaming and 4hrs normal use. I use my blade for engineering hw, c++ work, recording and editing music, photo editing, and gaming I hope this helped in your desicion, thanks for your time

I did not get this on Amazon, but bought this at a (now) slightly cheaper price elsewhere. Having used this for several months, it's a good machine that has solid construction and is pretty fast. The battery life is decent, and the screen is crisp and clear. We use it for low-end tasks (Skyping) to higher-end stuff like video encoding. It seems to handle everything we throw at it the i3 processor is speedy enough for most things these days even some previously taxing games for my old Core 2 Duo. The scratch-resistant material is pretty nice and keeps the machine looking new.

I purchased my labtop on April 1, 2012. The screen on my laptop began to flicker and I called in on April 31 to speak with a tech. I asked if there was anyway that I could recieve a new labtop and the tech told me even though I had only had the laptop for about a month it would have had to be dead on arrival for them to send me a replacement. So I agreed to go ahead and do a hard reset to see if that would fix the screen. It did not fix the screen for more than a month so I had to send in the Labtop on June 8, 2012 after several hard resets. On October 22, 2012 the screen begain to defect again so I did several more hard resets without any progress and begin calling customer service again on November 1,2012 where I was hung up on several times by employees whom seemed to be fustrated when I asked to recieve a new laptop due to the fact that this $536.54 laptop was once again broken and I have not had it for a year. After being put on hold for about a total of 4hours in a six hour time span I was told that a manager would call me. When the manager did call they only let the phone ring twice and then hung up. When I called back I was put on hold again for an hour and 9 minutes and the supervisor advised me to just send in the defective device so they could repair it again because they did not beleive that management would give me another device. There customer service is horrible to say the least. My labtop model is a X53ERS31 15.6 screen. I would advise anyone to steer away from Asus due to thier Customer Service.

Got this in tightly sealed box. Installed Windows 7 and some Asus apps with no problems.

I am primarily using this laptop for personal web design and development purpose. And the occassional games TorchLight2, League Of Legends, Dota2 (with lots of video settings in low mode). Recently bought a condenser mic to experiment acoustic guitar recording.

So far, I am happy with this i3 laptop for its price range which is almost 24-hours plugged in to the wall socket (I removed the battery for now) and just occassionally hibernate when I need to go out for more than 10 hours.

Had this laptop for 2 days now. It could be really good, but it has several design flaws that are annoying. The front corners are very sharp and hurt my wrist when typing. The touchpad is really bad. Almost unusable. It also attracts fingerprints like crazy. Completely unacceptable for a $3,000 laptop. The backlit keyboard cannot be turned on permanently, but shuts off after 60s. The first two carges, the built in battery lasted 2.20 and 1.55. Soooo far off the advertised 4 hours plus without any hard tasks run.

I've owned this model for 3 years now. I was never very happy with it in the first place. It had only 1 GB of memory when I bought it, which I upgraded to 2 GB so that I would be able to run the suckey Windows Vista OS that it came with. I've suffered through having my roommate give it heat damage & also, while I haven't used the DVD drive a lot, I want it to work when I do use it. Recently it has gone out, which is prompting me to look for a new laptop. This model has more power than a net book, but not hardly enough to be of much use to me. I'm a college student & casual gamer; also, I like to burn DVDs & do photo editing. I've dealt with it, but it's not been an enjoyable fit for me. I ended up having to replace the AC power cord at least twice. Also, for as little power as it actually gives, the battery life is pretty bad... only about 2 1/2 hours... but only if you're not running *anything*. Start running programs & the battery life may decrease down to 1 1/2 hours or even just 1 hour. I would not recommend this model to anyone. For about $300, you can get a much better model than this. For less, you can get a netbook that does about the same as what this is *actually* good for.

I was considering purchasing the Vizio laptop CT15-A5 only as choice #2...the Samsung Series 9, similar to that of the Vizio except for the 8GB RAM memory, was my primary focus. However, taking into consideration Vizio's specifications, its price, and Amazon's association, I decided to proceed with the Vizio acquisition.

The shipping/delivery packaging, both by Amazon and Vizio, was excellent, neat, tidy, safe, and simple. The laptop's stunningly unique appearance, [lightweight, slim] and durability cannot be denied. The manufacturer's future considerations and modifications must continue regarding opening the laptop with one hand, currently it can only be done with practice and patience. But this should not be a dealer breaker.

I cannot say enough about the boot ramp-up time, absolutely phenomenal with a threshold of 3-7 seconds. Additionally, Out of the box you will have approximately 200GB of free space. Let's not forget that Vizio has a MS signature allowing for no bloating software, I applaud this initiative.

Historically, from my own personal research, there has been significant negative reviews pertaining to Vizio's `track pads'. Not so with Vizio Windows 8, all functions are readily available, easily accessible, two finger scroll [up, down], zoom [in, out], double touch throughout, [right, left] click, etc. This is by far one of the best track pads I've ever used.

I compared the screen with the Samsung series 9 which is owned by a friend, the S9 is superior, especially while viewing in daylight. Saying this does not mean the screen is bad, I watched several movies and the screen did not disappoint me at all, it was adequate.

The battery charger's cable houses enough length extending its usage to outlets immediately out of reach. It also provides visual indicators such as `yellow', `green' notification during the charging process. Depending upon usage, battery life is approximately 3 hours on MS Signature Power Plan.

WIFI reception has not been an issue, it has actually been outstanding. Proximity during usage in my home, which is relatively spacious, far surpasses that of the Samsung 9.

I have yet to max-out speaker volume...Vizio has provided more than adequate sound during my recent movie viewing.

Amazingly, Vizio's heat venting and dispersemant system is incredible, I have not experienced any unnecessary grills during operation and the fan's performance is barely audible.

In conclusion, as its name implies, Vizio is visually impressive...it looks cool, feels cool, runs cool, and most importantly my fingers are happy dancing around its keyboard. On that note, Vizio, Visual that is, back-lit keys should have been implemented improving its night usage.

Congrats to VIZIO for getting the the windows 8 ultrabook right. This is the cheapest ultrabook of all core i7 that has a 256GB SSD. Start up is truely instant.. something around 1-2 secs. The design make it so slim that you don't mind carry it everywhere. It beats my old hp. The screen is great to watch movies, do work, read email. I love the multi-touch trackpad, especially with windows 8 gestures.

My only recommendation to Vizio is to offer a upgradable storage option. I would have enjoyed a 500gb one.

UPDATED 11-21

I want to add that if you update the synaptic touchpad driver to the latest (go to Synaptics website), you can enable 3 and 4 finger windows 8 gestures built specifically just for this large touchpad. It is really awesome!

Best Deals for VIZIO CT15-A5 15.6-Inch Thin + Light Ultrabook

I previously owned a 15" Macbook pro i5 (about 2 years old) and moved to this vizio. I've been using the vizio for about a week and can comment on most important aspects of it in comparison to my old mac.

Pros

Designfeels great. Fantastic build qualityeasily on par with my mac. very light too! The chassis feels very solid with very minimal flex. I think I remember reading vizio is using some unibody-type construction like the macbooks do.

ScreenFantastic. I got so sick of the glossy screen on my mac so the matte screen on the vizio is a very welcome change. The resolution is fantastic and viewing angles seen to be better than most laptops.

SpeedI am doing mostly document editing, lots of web browsing and some video watching. Most computers are plenty adequate for this and the vizio is definitely overkill here. The SSD is incredibly fast (both in real world use and benchmarks). One of the best thing about this computer to me though is that it is so fast and does NOT get hot. My macbook would literally burn me if I played a flash video or anything slightly intense. This vizio doesn't have ANY heat problemsI'm really impressed here.

Neither pro nor cons:

Battery lifefor web browsing and document editing you should expect to get about 4.5 hours. This is fine for me but it simply can't compare to the 6.5 hours I got with my mac.

Speakersgood for laptop speakers, but they lack a lot of lows and are definitely inferior to my previous mac's speakers.

Touchpadit is probably the best touchpad you will find on a PC! That being said, it still isn't quite as good as the apple touchpads. What I think I miss the most is how fluid the scrolling was on the macthis vizio can't quite compare although I think it is more a limitation of microsoft windows.

Windows 8Windows 8 is just plain weird. I'm slowly adjusting to it, but this is seriously weird. I've used PCs for all except the last two years (when I got my mac) and have had quite a few confusing moments with it. I think I will get adjusted fine eventually though. The good news is that Windows 8 appears to be very efficient power and speed-wise.

Cons:

Keyboardit kind of sucks. The key travel is very low and there is a small amount of flex. Put these two problems together and it is definitely not the easiest computer to type on. You will end up accidently double-typing a lot of letters. I think this may be something I will adjust to though. It just will require you to adjust the way you are used to pushing on keys though. The keyboard on the macbook is the best there is on any computer and it definitely beats the vizio. Note the samsung 15" ultrabook has similarly low key travel issues too but I found it more comfortable to type on that this computer.

ChargerTwo problems: 1. It is piano gloss blackwhat this means is after 1 day of use you will already have plenty of scratches on it and it is going to look like crap after a couple of weeks. 2. I really wish more comopanies would design their power bricks so they can be directly plugged into the wall like apple does. As someone who always commutes with my laptop it is really annoying to have to pack not only the charging brick but ALSO a huge annoying cord as well.

Overall, I'm very happy with this computer though. I did pay significantly less than retail during a blackfriday sale but you will be very hard pressed to find a 15" ultrabook with specs anywhere near this for the price. Unless you really need the extra space and speed of the CT15-A5 the CT15-A4 may be a much more affordable option and likely has even better battery life.

Honest reviews on VIZIO CT15-A5 15.6-Inch Thin + Light Ultrabook

I finally bit the bullet and bought it from microsoft store for $799.

Mainly because I thought that for 1080p IPS Laptop with Core i7 and 256GB SSD is pretty good deal and I can live with any downsides. And I think I am justified.

The main feature of this laptop is 1080p IPS MATTE SCREEN. Very vibrant and well color balanced. I am absolutely thrilled how good it is. I had a think pad x201 tablet and it was difficult to work with in direct sun but this one is workable even at the half brightness. The brightness is a little bit more than SONY VAIO S series 15" notebooks.

The second most important feature is 256GB SSD. It is not a whole lot of space to store your media. But other than that it is more than adequate. I run two VMs off of it and have documents and other stuff and does the job. Pretty snappy boot time. I had a samsung SSD SATA-II based and it is easily twice as fast as that.

If these two features haven't made you fall in love with this then third one is large trackpad and bloatware/trialware free windows. It looks nice and very sleek and lightweight and has a neat look. Boots in 3 seconds.

Great. Now stop here and go buy the laptop!!!

Okay Great you bought it!!! Honeymoon is over and now work on the compromise and respect each others's feeling. Stop complaining about the keyboard! Yeah I know you don't like it. The old thinkpad had a pretty good keyboard...but live with it. After sometime you will begin to like it.

Yes my only wish was dedicated PgUp and PgDown key and full size arrow keys. The key does misses sometimes. But hey that black spot above your nose doesn't look right either.

Okay I know your next complaint, Windows 8... well it is not too bad. You will get used to it. Learn a few gestures and with good trackpad you will have the honor of educating your friends on how to use windows 8 and start convincing them to drop their iProducts and make a switch (as if they will ever!! after all they earn for apple).

Battery life is what everybody said. And I am comfortable with that. The only complain is that to replace it is a pain when time comes. Good news is that replacing battery yourself will not void the warranty. Does it matter if it wasn't covered? Hell no. Because you will most probably be replacing the battery after warranty expires in one year. If you buy additional warranty, check if they will cover battery replacement or you may end up losing your warranty. You have been warned!!!

On warranty side, A three year warranty on this thing will probably cost you about $200 with ADP. So once you pay $200 and anything happens you get back $799. But that means you effectively netted $599 to get a replacement. So save your money ($200) because after two year you will want to buy a new laptop anyway. Hey Haswell is just around the corner. Isn't it?

For those brave souls who want to install Virtual Machine. The key to get to BIOS is F2. (to save yourself time to search). If you are unable to get to BIOS after repeated shutdown and pressing F2 then you are probably just resuming windows not restarting. Use the restart option of windows 8 and then press F2 and enable Virtualization in BIOS and you will be good to go.

Will update if I notice any problem....

**UPDATE 2/1/2013 **

Spilled some coffee on the laptop. But was quick in drying it out so didn't encounter any issues. The key felt sticky for next two days but became fluid again.

The keyboard feels fine now..that I am getting used to it. So folks .. it takes some time but you will eventually forget about it.

The screen still feels very good... I work with about 30% brightness and still think it is very bright.

I bought this laptop for my wife about a month ago to replace her slower than turtle less than one year old Dell laptop. I took a gamble on buying a laptop from Vizio as they are new to laptop manufacturing but after hours and hours of research I am happy to say if has been a great purchase. I should note that I did not buy it here but from another

online seller for 100 less. After reading reviews here which have been very helpful I went to Vizio's website and updated the touchpad drivers and the wi-fi drivers. Big improvement. I also made some adjustments to the two finger scrolling in the settings and works very much like my Macbook pro now.

My wife was very hesitant about it because of the windows 8 thing but after about 2 days she is really liking it. The keys on the keyboard are fantastic with great feedback and proper spacing. The touchpad is great size and works like a charm once the drivers are updated. I think I totally blew my wife away when I turned it on and it was ready to use in 2 seconds or less for real. It makes my Macbook pro look really slow. I am kind of embarrassed now. I use to brag about how fast my Macbook starts up but Wow I can't even begin to start mine up in 2 seconds or less and that is from either a total shutdown or waking from standby.

I also noticed how much faster this laptop is on the internet than any other computer I have seen. So I guess internet speed is also related to the computers performance after all. I will say that I have been anti Microsoft for many years and still am but my wife loves Microsoft windows so that is why I bought this for her. I also have to admit that this Vizio laptop is really making me rethink Microsoft windows again. It is a combination of the huge screen size, extremely thin size, blazing fast speed, battery life and on that is making me think about buying one for myself and maybe try to install mac OS on it.

Ok now onto the battery life. We have been experiencing about 4.5 hrs continuous use with preset screen brightness which is very bright by the way. Onto the screen now. The screen is very clean, clear, and bright. I am really glad they have chosen the matt finish and not the gloss. Another great thing I have noticed is that the laptop stays very cool even after hours of use for work or play. If you listen really closely in a very quite setting you can faintly here a soft whisper from the fan.

The aluminum chassis is fantastic and built just like an Apple. Very ridged and overall construction quality resembles a Macbook Air. I really hope that it holds up as well too.

If I had to have a gripe then it would be the lack of a SD card slot. Yes you can just use an USB adapter that accepts SD cards so no big deal. All I can say is that after many hours of research I choose this laptop for my wife and she loves me for it. Oh I should also mention that I considered The Acer Ultrabook, the Sony T series, and Samsung but in the end this one was a hands down for me. I would certainly recommend this to anyone serious about a performance Ultrabook.

Pros: Extremely thin and light. Might be the thinest for a 15.6 size screen?

I7 very fast processor that performs very well.

Fantastic feel and responding keyboard and multi touch keypad

long battery life 4.5 plus hrs real life use.

Laptop runs very quite and cool

Laptop startup in 2 seconds or less and ready to use

Very fast internet performance

Exceptional screen clarity and performance

Microsoft Certified with no bloatware software to waste time removing. Finally!

Might be able to turn it into a Macbook with Mac OS??

Cons: Well if I must complain it would be the lack of an SD card slot but this can be overcome with an USB adapter that accepts SD cards.

I was on the market for a very light, thin laptop with a long battery life. I found this on a whim a few days ago, knowing nothing about the hype from CES, etc.

I'd say overall I'm very happy with the computer. Hardware wise, it's basically a Macbook Air but for Windows. That's a good thing, it has a great, big touchpad with excellent multi-touch, and the keyboard is really fantastic. It's a no frills laptop, it's not full of silly media pads and junk like that.

I was a little disappoined with the lack of aluminum, it's sold as an aluminum laptop but the ENTIRE bottom is plastic, the front face around the screen is plastic, and the keyboard area is all plastic. The outside of the lid is all aluminum and most of the top/keyboard area is aluminum, basically where your palms sit is all aluminum. It's not a deal breaker, but still worth mentioning.

There is a refreshing lack of bloatware as well, which was nice. As in, other than Norton, Samsung just has a few very low resource utilities (driver update, function keys) and that's it.

The SSD comes with 69GB free, yes, you read that right! I did find a simple way to get rid of the useless recovery partition (back it up) and recover another 20gb. There are also other obvious ways to increase space, you can purchase 32gb Micro SD cards for a mere $40, so if you want to carry some movies around with you, even just a couple cards would have quite a bit of entertainment. I personally have a 32GB MicroSD card that just stays in the laptop and a small external hard drive that I rarely use, but it's there. Overall the disk space hasn't been an issue.

The laptop is VERY light, you can pick it up with 2 fingers with almost no effort. Perfect!

Speedwise, I first noted how fast the boot was when I rebooted after removing Norton, FAST, I've never seen such a fast boot, a few seconds maybe? Closing the lid puts the computer in a zero-power mode, and when opening the lid it comes right back instantly. It's not clunky, and it works really well, everytime. I do quite a bit of multitasking including Adobe CS5 and this has handled it quite nicely.

The battery lasts a long time, I'm not timing it, but I'll find myself using it for several hours on end without charging and still having plenty of battery. It would surely make it through a trip from Florida to California, nice!

I purchased a small USB powered external DVD burner and a small external USB hard drive just to have the extra abilities when I need them which is rare.

Compared to a Macbook Air, which I also considered (running OSX and Windows) the price is pretty good. Keep in mind that if you add the 2 additional years of warranty on an Air and the extra 2gb of RAM, the Air actually costs more than the Series 9. The Samsung comes standard with 3 years of warranty and 4gb of memory, though I'll upgrade mine to 8gb sooner than later.

Is this laptop expensive? Yes. But it's for people who can afford it. If you are shopping for price/power, then this isn't for you. If you want a super thin and light laptop with adequate performance and long battery life, then it's fantastic.

Overall 5 stars, it's met all my needs with flying colors. It's sturdy, works great, and is just a great small laptop that I use several hours a day with zero stability issues.

-------UPDATE 10/8/2011 ---------

So many positive responses to my review, thanks! It's been 6 or so months since I bought this laptop. The memory I upgraded when I bought it, and I removed the recovery partition to recover 20GB, but other than that, it's just the way it came. I still haven't experienced any WiFi issues like others have reported, I'm not denying there may be issues, but it's working great for me.

I still think this was a fantastic purchase, I use this little guy every day. It's just so fast, so responsive. Everything opens fast, moves fast. I use Photoshop and do some heavy editing often and it's just so fast. The touchpad has never once had an issue. They keyboard and touchpad are easily the best on any laptop I've ever seen. The battery still holds a long charge and made it all the way to Denmark with regular usage on the flight and in the airports. The computer still looks like new too, which means the aluminum (duralumin?) body is durable. Overall the laptop still looks and feels like the day I bought it. It still comes back from sleep when I open the lid, instantly.

It's sad to see so many negative reviews for a product that I have come to appreciate so dearly. This laptop has been one of my best purchases, ever.

-------UPDATE 8/15/2012 ---------

Had an issue with the screen, the LCD pixels started permanently dotting and the screen needed to be replaced. I sent the computer into Samsung and it was fixed within a week. Keep in mind this is 19 months after purchase, still under full factory warranty. Didn't cost me a penny. Very nice!

I bought this laptop on the 30th not from Beach Camera, but from a nearby Micro Center (though I have purchased something from Beach Camera and was pleased with the experience). First time I saw her, I said 'I do' (not to be corny lol).

Let me say this: there's a reason why the Samsung 9 Series was so popular at CES 2011.

I'm going to start with the looks of this laptop (shocking beginning for this brief review, wouldn't you say?). The first thing I said to my self after opening the box was, "WOW! This is truly a work of art." It definitely is a work of art, even the box was stunning. The metal look, the silver trim on the sides, and the thinness creates an absolutely stunning looking laptop. To top it off, I like how the Samsung logo isn't 'in your face.' I feel like so many companies now constantly try to put their logo all over the laptop Samsung has it tucked to the side for pleasant viewing. The ports are also in the 'looks'/hardware category for me. The ports are tucked into secret compartments on both sides of the laptop. For those afraid those may become loose over time, it doesn't seem that way to me they are very sturdy. The duraluminum body is magnificent it is sturdy and will be able to withstand a lot of use. The battery life is also very nice lasts a looong time, especially for this category of laptop.

As for the inside of the laptop, the fantastic look/hardware factors continue. The screen is beautiful, and its matte screen is just what I was looking for. The webcam performs just as you would expect. It's a webcam. The keys seem solid and feel like they will last quite some time. I like how difficult it would be to accidentally remove a key while using it (unlike my previous Dell Inspiron 1525 where I was always weary about that happening). When pushing on the plastic (yes, plastic) between the keys, there seems to be very little movement, demonstrating the strength of the keyboard. As for typing, everything feels great little to no learning curve to type like a pro again!

Now comes the touchpad. First few uses were fantastic. It really feels natural using it. Moving two of your fingers up/down scrolls through a webpage (however, it seems not as smooth as on a Mac, sorry to say), four fingers DOWN minimizes everything ("very nice!", using a Borat voice), and four fingers UP will put you into aero windows' eye-candy for switching between open applications (though I'll just stick with ALT+TAB). Also, the touchpad is large, which is very nice. Imagine a normal touchpad with left and right buttons, but not separated from each other, and made of very good quality = very natural feeling while using it (hope this was clear enough...); left click is bottom left, right click is bottom right, as usual. After the first few uses, I started running into problems, but this problem hasn't occurred for awhile (see my minor gripes at the end of this review).

Overall, though, I was pleasantly surprised with the touchpad's performance.

This baby boots really fast thanks to its SSD. I experience little lag while computing (i.e. browsing, office, and video viewing). Eventually, I'll probably uninstall most of the bloatware Samsung supplied. Also, I'll probably dualboot Linux soon, as I have been using that for a few years and am used to it (I can only imagine the boot speed after installation O.o).

Here are some of my minor gripes (I didn't think the sum of these deserved a negation of a star): touchpad has been unresponsive a few times for like 5 minutes each time (I reinstalled the touchpad driver...hasn't happened since, though I don't know if this was because of the driver I installed may have just needed a little more use to function properly), attracts fingerprints, no media keys (not a big deal), and no light on the outside showing that it is charging (also not a big deal).

Not a very organized review, so I'm sorry lol. But for those looking for something to read about it, I hope I supplied a decent enough review.

Best Deals for Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A-A03US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

Got mine from the Microsoft Store, where they have their "Signature". So this unit comes clean (they remove the bloatware for you).

First impressions:

Quite impressive. It is gorgeous, it is light, it is sturdy.

It's an elegant piece of hardware. It's not "look at me". It just exudes elegance with its lines and color.

The weight is quite amazing. Obviously, not as light as a tablet (I own an ipad), but for a laptop, core i5, it's quite amazing they packed so much power into such a small form factor.

The material they used for this is impressive. I can hold the laptop with one hand on one of the sides, like it was a tablet, and the laptop does not bend at all.

Performance:

I also have an Envy 17 from work, with core i7 (first gen) with 6gb RAM. So far, performance has been quite comparable. The fact that this baby has SSD helps a ton. It "feels" speedier than my Envy. You can check benchmark tests on other blogs/sites, but from a user perspective (I'm s software engineer, so I always have Visual Studio open with multiple other programs), you'll feel almost no difference compared to a machine with higher specs (I haven't tested video encoding, etc, but for most users, I expect that's a minor part of their use).

Because this is a "travel" laptop and it has work related stuff, I've encrypted the system drive with TrueCrypt. Did not notice any performance hit.

Heat:

My envy 17 is HOT. I mean REALLY HOT. The desk it sits atop gets quite warm on the left side where the vent is. But I can place this computer on my lap and it barely feels warm.

Trackpad:

I'm a mouse guy. Even with laptops, I'm always using a mouse. However, given the limited number of usb ports on this machine, I've decided to give the trackpad a try. It's quite comfortable. I still rather use the mouse, but the single panel trackpad (that's clickable) is good enough for me to use full time. Microsoft, with its Signature, removed the multi touch features. I've only realized that after I read reviews here mentioning them, so I went to the control panel and enabled them. They're awesome. Three fingers click makes it much easier (for me) to use this track pad.

Keyboard:

I'm also a natural keyboard guy (the one that has the keys you're supposed to use with your left hand separated from the right). I'm typing this review on the laptop's keyboard. While not as comfortable as my natural keyboard, where I don't have to bend my wrists to type, this keyboard feels quite nice as well. Probably wouldn't use it for long typing tasks, but for the most part, it should work well.

Battery:

Excellent battery life. Professional blogs will give you more detailed battery tests. But as a regular user, I can tell you, you'll get quite a few hours of use. Really, quite impressive. My Envy 17 can barely hold 2 hours of work on a charge. Most of the time, I'm plugging that monster in after an hour. This one, feels almost like my ipad. I can get a full day of work on a single charge.

Unfortunately, I couldn't see an easy way to replace its battery. I'll confess that I haven't read the manual or user guide. Just booted and started using it. But from the looks of it, you'll have to use a screwdriver to replace its battery, if that's even possible.

SSD:

This is my first system with a SSD. Unfortunately, the recovery partition takes some 20Gb, so you're left with 99.9Gb of available space. So you'll need to be careful with what you put in your system.

Overview:

This is an excellent piece of hardware. But, obviously, not a desktop replacement. It's not intended to be one. I leave my Envy 17 at work and bring it home occasionally, but now that I have this laptop, I don't think I'll be bringing that bad boy home anymore.

What I would change: Replace the micro SD with a full SD slot. Most digital cameras (that I'm aware of) still use SD cards.

UPDATE (04/29/2011):

I was able to watch a full NBA Playoff Game on TV and write some code (probably not the best code I've written) on a single charge. I still had plenty of battery life left. The light weight and battery life made this quite comfortable; something I couldn't have done before with my previous computers.

I will install Photoshop Elements and a game (possibly StarCraft 2) this weekend and update this review.

UPDATE (05/09/2011):

Regarding the heat. It will generate more heat if you're doing video intensive tasks. I wasn't able to place the laptop directly on my lap after a while watching several videos.

Regarding backlighting keyboard: Not really an issue with the laptop itself, but if you use Truecrypt to encrypt the whole system drive, the backlighting won't work on the truecrypt password screen. So if you're trying to use your computer in the dark bedroom while your wife is sleeping, you better know where your keys are in the keyboard :)

But after you're past truecrypt and into Windows, you'll be fine.

I have installed Photoshop Elements and Lightroom. No performance issues whatsoever.

Honest reviews on Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A-A03US 13.3-Inch Laptop (Black)

Fist let me tell you what/where I am coming from to discard any bias. I have owned this laptop (Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A-A03US) for 3 days now, coming from a 1 & 1/2 year old Sony Vaio 16.5" laptop. I choose this product because of its compact size (yeah the Vaio's screen was nice and big, but a pain to pack up and use while laying down) and newer components (the SSD is unbelievable).

Upon purchasing this I also purchased a additional 4GB of RAM, which I subsequently installed before I ever turned the machine on. The NP900X3A-A03US comes with two RAM slots, only one of which has pre-installed 4GB module of RAM. It may seem like a daunting task to install additional RAM, given the lack of a typical easy access panel, and I know Samsung's tech support will tell you that it can only be installed via a "professional," however the process is simple enough, and can be done with minimal stress and effort. Just Google for instructions (*hint* there are 10 screws that need to come out of the back, and use something plastic like a ruler or gift card to wedge under back plate to release clips).

The one item issue I do have, and that most other owners of this product have, is the wifi capabilities. I have researched this issue, and will go into some depth here on this issue, in an attempt to fully explain the problem & compile what I have learned from various sources.

So this laptop sitting in the same place as my older Vaio, receives about 20% less signal strength on 2.4GHz band, and does not even pick up my 5GHz band. I am roughly 20 25 ft. from my router, with 2 walls between us. I read about this problem after I had purchased it, but decided to give it a go anyway.

I feel that there are two primary factors that are leading to this issue:

1) The wifi antennas (there are 2) are laid along the sides of the interior of this laptop, stretching to the back. In a typical laptop, the wifi antennas usually go into the screen portion of the device and act more like a typical antenna (pointing up). However, I'm sure that this could not be done, as the Samsung Series 9 screen is paper thin... understandable I guess.

2) The second issue, and far less understandable in my opinion, is the decision by Samsung to use a Broadcom wifi adapter. I would much prefer a Intel wifi adapter, and for good reason... performance, performance, performance. And as of late, it seems Samsung would also prefer a Intel wifi adapter over the Broadcom one. If you happen to look at Samsung's support/download page, you will of course see the driver for the Broadcom adapter, but more recently released, you will also see a driver for a Intel wireless LAN (released Jun 7, 2011). So it appears that newer manufactured devices will be getting a "upgrade" or better performing wifi adapter, in my opinion at least. I thought that I would be getting one of these newer laptops, since I bought mine on 7/14/2011, however, this was not the case. This will lead me into another point below... if this isn't for my particular Series 9 model, which is it for??? Read on.

So, what's the fix for the wifi problem? Well, honestly, you need a better wifi adapter. Good thing they are relatively in-expensive. Search for "Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Network adapter PCI Express Half Mini Card." This is Intel's newest/bestest wifi adapter, and will fit the Samsung Series 9 laptop. Now, before you go off half cocked and order it, some people are saying that it does not support their blue-tooth. I'm not sure, as I have just ordered mine & am waiting on it to get here, but also, I don't really care, as I don't use blue-tooth on my laptop, in-fact I already disabled it. Anyway, another plus of the Intel wifi adapter, is that it supports 3 antennas, as opposed to just 2. So if you are so inclined you can also order another antenna along with the new wifi adapter and increase your signal strength that much more. This particular setup, I will have a professional do; as I want a 3rd antenna, but am unable to find full/clear guidelines on the install process, plus they take care of the drivers and all that other stuff. But as soon as I have it installed, I will report back on any changes in my signal strength. So yes, Samsung dropped the ball on the less than stellar wifi adapter, but they have appeared to at least try and fix the issue from a manufacturing stand point, and it's potentially an easy enough fix (still have to test this theory). But I also agree that if you pay $$$$ for something, you shouldn't have to go scouring the internet for a solution; that's what R&D is for Samsung... such is life I guess.

Another thing I wish I had known before I purchased this laptop, is that there are already upgraded units available to purchase! Yes, you read right, despite the lack of updated models on Samsung's website, there are 2 newer models available:

NP900X3A-B02US: $1,649 MSRP (Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel® Core(tm) i5 Processor 2467M; 4GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD)

NP900X3A-A05US: $2,049 MSRP (Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel® Core(tm) i7 Processor 2617M; 6GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD)

Well this sure would have been nice to know, before I purchased this one... my own fault I guess for not researching enough beforehand. So truthfully, if you looking at spending the $ on this, the NP900X3A-A03US one, I would suggest you just drop another $100 or two and get one of the newer ones.

One other issue I've noticed the past couple of days on this system is the core temps. The core temps for this laptop, sitting on a wooden desk, are running anywhere from 130F 150F when using, and around 120F when idle; even on a Intel i5 low voltage chip. I assume this is another design issue having to do with the minimalization of the system; having small vent holes on the bottom with very little vertical space of the hot air to escape. Makes me wonder how warm the Macbook Air systems run??? I hope to solve this problem at least somewhat, with a cooling fan pad... will have to see how big of a difference it will make though; I happen to think that if you just could get the bottom of the surface a bit more, it would make all the difference in the world (let the hot air escape).

So now that we got the bad out of the way, what do I like about this laptop:

* Ultra light weight & extremely portable

* SSD (Solid State Drive) if you've never experienced this before, you are in for a treat. My Series 9 boots up from a cold start in under 10 sec!

* LED screen & Backlit Keyboard

* Trackpad about 50/50 here, as I don't really use it, but when I do it works very well (*note* there is a driver update available for download for the trackpad may help with those expressing problems with theirs)

* Duralumin Shell it'll make you wonder if you're looking at plastic or metal, but it's damn cool!

* USB 3.0 port at least on one side

All and all I'm happy with my purchase, despite some initial setbacks and parts swapping. I don't mind upgrading parts, I just wish I would have known to look for a newer model that may have some of these issues already fixed. Hope this helps you make up your mind one way or the other. Thanks

**UPDATE**

So I got the Intel centrino ultimate-n 6300 w/ 3rd antenna installed and it works pretty well... well, it works better at least... improves signal quality/strength, but doesn't totally solve the problem. The tech that installed 3rd antenna did say that the "metal" shell didn't seem like that big of a issue, as the signal remained the same with or without the back on/off. I consider it a good upgrade, and unfortunately for Samsung, a necessary one if you get a Gen 1 series 9. Cost me about $40 for adapter + antenna & about $70 for install.

Also, I upgraded the RAM to 8GB of Kingston HyperX DDR-3 1866Mhz (product number KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G). This RAM really SOARS!!! The speed and scores are insane fast!!! No heat issues either. I know this ram is a bit much for this machine (ok, it's overkill, but in a good way), but I wanted to really bring the machine to life, and as this is my primary computer, I wanted the best.

Next up, upgrade to the Intel Core i7 2677M, once it becomes available in Q3 this fall.

This is a beautiful and extremely well designed laptop. If Amazon had separate ratings for different aspects of a product, I probably wouldn't have given it a 1. However, I'm only giving it a 1 in hopes Samsung does something about this flaw. As everyone has been reading about the WIFI problems with this product, I too am having the same issues with the wifi card. The broadcom card included with this laptop is horrible. I tested my new Samsung Series 9 against my old Fujitsu T5010 laptop/tablet, and my T5010 outpeformed it. I did a speed test from the exact same location for both laptops in my home. I have a 50mbps and 20 up with FIOS. I used speakeasy's bandwidth test, and the T5010 clocked in at 20 mbps down and 5 mbps up. The Samsung clocked in at 1.5 mbps down and 1 mbps up. I'm not going to go and tweak my router signals so my samsung can get better speeds, because I have other devices in my home that use vatrious wifi standards. Everything else about this laptop is top notch. Sure, I could have went out and purchased a Intel wireless card to fix this issue, but why should I have to pay for something to make my laptop faster? Everone is paying top notch money for this laptop and it should perform flawlessly. I'm returning this laptop to Costco today. I'm not sure what it takes to get Samsung to fix this problem, as they should have went with a better quality wifi card, it would have saved them lots of money. Maybe it takes a certain percentage of laptops being returned before they do something about it, I dont' know. The other compaint I have with this laptop is that Samsung doesn't offer any type of custom upgrades like increased RAM, larger capacity SSD, etc. Other than that, this is a beautiful laptop. I think I'll wait for Samsung to iron these issues out and also for the price to drop.
