HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14" Laptop / 14-b015dx / Intel® 3rd Review
Good overall laptop. Gets the job done. The build of the laptop does feel a bit cheap though. Had it for a couple months, take it around with me all the time. The plastic where i rest my hands when typing is beginning to make a bit of noise. I do use it a lot though.I like the laptop and it is working well. I don't like the Windows 8! Windows 8 seems to want to make my laptop into a tablet but it can't. I need to get work done on the thing and it constantly gets in the way! I would change it to Windows 7 if I could. I might load Linux on it. I know that would be an improvement over anything Microsoft!

Buy HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad Edition (dv7tqe) 17.3" Laptop -3rd
I purchased this HP Laptop to replace one that I'd had for five years, that really couldn't keep up with my growing business and personal demands on it, and it had been a top-of-the-line HP as well! I wanted something that had at least 8GB of RAM, check. It had to be able to expand its memory, yes I'm going to be purchasing two 8GB memory cards in a couple of weeks. It had to be 3rd generation (i7) check. Well, that was pretty much everything on my checklist well, it pretty much had to be an HP I looked around our local stores, and found a couple of non-HP contenders, but they weren't really everything that I felt comfortable about, then I saw this one and bam! it was love at first site I love the almost noiseless keys, which is great for conference calls, because I can type and talk at the same time, or listen and type without having to stick the mute on; I love the fingerprint/biometric logon reader with it, I can store all my passwords as my fingerprint, really safe! It never, ever, gets hot so I could rest it on my bare thighs and it would not burn try that with other laptops! The wi-fi on-off key is no longer at the front, where it can be turned off accidentally, but on the top row of the keyboard, much better. The headphone/microphone jacks, again, no longer at the front which is a pain, but at the side. The 3XUSB 3.0 and 1XUSB 2.0 ports is excellent! It also has this neat little flip-down cover over the LAN port at the side too, again really functional. Overall, it's really, really fast and I haven't even upgraded the RAM yet, it's reliable, (well, it's an HP) and it's long-lasting oh, did I forget to mention that it lasts 8 hours unplugged?
My main gripe with this laptop is the REALLY weird offset touch pad.
Instead of being centered on the spacebar, it's moved to the right about an inch, which puts it under the right palm when you're typing using your home keys. That means when you type, your mouse magically moves all over and places your cursor in random locations unless you turn off the touchpad. This is a REALLY bad design. Basically, you have to have an external mouse and disable the touchpad since touch typing, using the home keys, means your palm is wresting on the touchpad. Luckily HP included a hot zone on the touchpad that allows you to turn it off with a double tap. Let me repeat; you absolutely MUST have an external mouse to type on this computer.
The keyboard itself has been mapped such that the keys are HPs own idea of use. means screen brightness down, NOT rename. You must use "Function" key combo's to access the original meanings of the keys. I am a computing professional, so for me, this is a hassle. Thankfully, still means refresh. If you don't use or know the meanings of the keys, this will not matter to you and is probably a good thing since brightness and volume are immediately accessible. I will likely go download some software to remap the keys back to what they should be.
The arrow keys are non-standard and you have to look every time to get your fingers located correctly.
The keys are flat, which supplies less feedback than I'm use to, but it's more like the mac flat, so if you like cool, then that's great, but this is not something you'd want to type on all day. There is just less keyboard feel than I like. My typing speed and accuracy are dramatically reduced on this keyboard.
HP is known for loading bloat-ware and this machine is no different. I spent the first 3 days of ownership removing all the bloated garbage software they had preinstalled. Once I'd cleaned house I have no complaints with performance. It's a good machine.
That sounds like a list of complaints, and it is, but I can't load up on kuddo's for Windows when I'm reviewing an HP computer. Once you know the hassles, it's just a computer and seems pretty decent. I've had it for several months and am pleased with its performance and response. My gripes are about simple "feel" type things. We'll just have to wait and see how well it ages in a year.
...........
Updated after owning this computer for a couple of months:
I've been using some software similar to AutoCAD, but not nearly as extensive. The graphics are high-end and while rendering them to video, the computer shuts down and the message I receive is something along the lines of "my graphics card has recovered from a serious problem." For now I'm not able to render videos. I do render high-end still pictures of my the projects which works fine, however, the computer runs pretty hot during this process. I prop it up to allow cool air to circulate. This is the only time it runs that hot.
One other issue I'm having is that when I attach my HP Printer (which is only a few months old as well), the system crashes on me again, does a memory save & dump and then restarts. I've reinstalled the drivers and it works for a time but after awhile the same thing happens. My display & printer drivers are up-to-date so this is a mystery to me... especially since these are both HP products.
Other than that, I'm still happy with it. I believe I got what I paid for. This post is for anyone who happens to be buying it for projects such as I've mentioned. It might be worthwhile to upgrade to something a little more upscale.
1. Cool Sense: 5 Stars It's really really cool! I use it all day and sometimes until midnight and the laptop just stays cool. My old HP
CQ120 gets really hot and I clearly feel the difference. Love it!
2. Placement of the Power Supply: 2 Stars I really do not know what made them design it this way but it gets in the way of the mouse
They could have placed it in another location or they could have used a power supply plug that is bent 90
degrees so the power supply cord goes towards the back and does not block the mouse. Bad Design!
3. Metal Finish: 5 Stars It looks and feels elegant. Nice!
4. Chicklet Keys 3 Stars. I don't really like them. They feel and sound annoying! The shaky keys sound like rattlers when you type
fast. The layout of the keys is somewhat different from the layout of my previous HP laptop so with this laptop
I get a lot of typos. Lots of work!
5. Intel i7-3610QM 5 Stars. I am not a gamer so I can't really test the speed. CNET recommended getting only Intel i5 for
students who will not play games but will only do school work and online research but I wanted the i7 so I got it.
It's really of no use me at the moment.
6. Beats Sound 5 Stars. I love the sound of this laptop. Compared to my previous laptops (HP, ASUS, Acer, & Toshiba yes I
have been a laptop user since birth. I have never experienced using a desktop), this is the one that has the best sound.
7. Simple Pass 4 Stars. It is convenient because I don't have to type in my password all the time. However, this feature has
failed several times already.
8. Touch Pad 4 Stars . It is not as simple to use as my previous laptops.
9. Blue Ray Player & Super Multi DVD Burner 5 Stars. Very fast, efficient and flexible.
10. Windows 7 5 Stars for now. I try windows 8 later when I get the time then I will compare. When I got this I really did a lot
research on the 2 but I got discouraged by the reviews on Windows 8. I know I can crack it but I am so busy that
I decided not to spend time on that, but I will soon.
Overall, I love this laptop. It's very functional, very fast and really serves me right. For students, listen to what CNET recommends. You don't really need a very strong processor. An Intel i5 would be just fine for you. You need not spend more than $700 on a laptop just for doing school work. I'd say go for the $450 $650 range. The ones sold at Costco are just fine. Now between Windows 7 and Windows 8? Hmmmm. . . . .if you have a lot of time to spend learning windows 8 then go for it.
it was made out of some plastic material, they probably made it lightweight, and unless your going to join the military it is
a great laptop. Light and useful, just got it for a few days and I can tell this is a great product. Keep up the good work HP!

Trying to stick within a budget, and after much research, I think this computer gave me the most bang for my buck. I chose to stick with Windows 7 after reading the reviews on the bugs in Windows 8, which is fine with me and will serve my purposes. It's a solid unit, nice large screen, and the keyboard touch is excellent. This is an upgrade from my desktop model, which I needed to provide mobility for work. Creating videos is a breeze which is more of a hobby, so all-in-all, I got exactly what I wanted . I was a little nervous purchasing something online I couldn't touch, but the reviews won me over. I was quite pleased to see this computer was everything as advertised and more. I've had it for a week and no complaints............

I got this in January 2013 to replace a dying HP CQ120. I am an MBA student and I originally wanted to get a cheap laptop to use for school just for doing research but the specs of this laptop kinda convinced me so I bought it. Let me review it by providing star rating to the important features:1. Cool Sense: 5 Stars It's really really cool! I use it all day and sometimes until midnight and the laptop just stays cool. Review of Sony VAIO SVE1411BFXW 14.0" Notebook (2.4GHz Intel Core i3-2370M
The Sony VAIO SVE1411BFXW has a very nice look. The laptop , however, is fairly slow with respect to Intel Core i3 4GB. Also, it gets hot very fast and the fan cannot do very much with that. Another minus is NO CD installation for operating system (Win 7 Home Premium) went along with the product.

I like most things about this computer. It's much better than my old PC (a Gateway NV53-something). It handles all of my tasks and games flawlessly (keep in mind I got this machine two days ago). I like the layout of the keyboard and the feel of they keys, but the problem I've really had was with the touchpad. Sometimes when I'm scrolling or dragging the pointer across the screen, it'll randomly select a block of text. This isn't really a huge issue I guess, since I've disabled it while typing, but still one that needs to be addressed. The position of the USB ports on the right side near the front of the computer is also annoying since I use a mouse and am right handed. There is also a port on the left side, but I'd rather make use of the USB 3.0 port (left) for things like data transfer than a mouse.

Buy Dell - Inspiron - 17R-N7110 - Intel Core i5-2430M 2.40GHz - 8GB RAM
Fast and economic laptop, bigger and brilliant screen, overall a good deal. The only drawback I can see is the size if you're a serious traveler.Good for Video Editing, MS Office, and Web Surfing. The only PC game I play is Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 which runs well except for when I use night mode. The battery drains too quickly sometimes. I hate the placement of usb and ethernet ports. Another issue is the size when you want to travel with it. Overall, Decent laptop

The horrified experience I had with Dell Repair Depot has made me to write this review so that some of customers can be saved from fake promises made by Dell.
I had issue with Laptop LCD hinges from day one and I was told by Dell Customer Care that it will be smooth with time but it didn't. Then finally the hinges appeared that It will come out if we press hard to close the LCD. Then we reported the problem to Dell and they created report and sent us Dell Depot Box with shipping label and during the entire they were prompt and quick. The Trouble started when the laptop reached the Repair Depot and I got a call that the hinges were not covered under warranty it has been put on hold. I was asked to pay $179.00 to get it repaired then I denied it as I was never informed earlier that hinges are not covered. I was told that my Laptop will be returned unrepaired on 07/17/2013. I didn't get any information on Laptop being shipped till 7/24/2013 and the repair depot status was showing that the Laptop is being repaired after released from hold. I called customer center and they said that it is not getting repaired and it will be send unrepaired. After so many follow-ups they sent back my Laptop which improperly packed and LCD broken by Dell.
I have written to Dell Director Customer care but till no positive response.
Let me mention here that same Laptop had issue with Motherboard too which was replaced after 2 months of online troubleshooting.
I never expected this unprofessional behavior from Dell that they will break my Laptop when I denied to pay extra being covered in Warranty.
One of the Out Of warranty representative staff mentioned me that they can't return the Laptop in same condition in threatening way that If I do not pay $179 for which they said is not covered by warranty they can't return the Laptop in same condition in which sent.
So now I have a Broken Laptop (Broken by Dell) which was unrepaired and I am not sure whom to contact for my grievances.
At least I would never suggest any one to buy even a small part from Dell.

I got several calls and emails from Dell after I raised complaint with BBB about my Laptop broken by Dell Depot and they told that my Laptop LCD, Heat Sink, Hinges, Bracets are broken which needs replacement and they just need $179.00 as Diagonostic charge and they are not charging any thing for Part. Let me tell you that I have repaired my Laptop myself after going through manuals only thing which needed replacement was Laptop Base costing $16.00 which too was broken was Dell Depot.
So if I would have not have repaired my Laptop myself, I would have ended Paying $179.00 (Instead of $16.00) plus Taxes. Dell stop cheating your Customers please.
The biggest drawback for me is the sound from the speakers. It is pretty bad. There are no settings that make it sound acceptable. It sounds very tinny and thin. Imagine the cheapest speakers you can imagine installed in a tomato soup can. That is what the speakers remind me of. Now, if you plug in a good set of aftermarket speakers or a decent headset, then WOW! The music becomes rich and deep. It is apparent that the music processor and software are more than adequate it is just the speakers or the computer case itself that limits the sound quality so immensely. Trust me, you do not want to start up your favorite playlist without plugging in better speakers or a good set of headphones.
Just a few days ago I streamed a movie through the HDMI port to my Sony television and the music was fantastic. So, it is just the speakers and/or computer case that limit the sound.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this laptop. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a moderately priced machine that can do just about anything well and a few things very well.
One last thing...has anyone replaced the DVD player in this computer with a Blu-ray player or player/burner? I tried to upgrade to a http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AXW2YQ/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_hst_1 but it was a little too thick. I need something thinner.

This is a nice computer. Plenty of memory, it boots up quickly, and has some sweet programs pre-loaded. The display is very good. There are three USB ports, a card reader, and and HDMI port. All pluses in my book. I even like Windows 8. Of course, I added a program that restores the classic Start menu. That probably makes the transition easier. The biggest drawback for me is the sound from the speakers. It is pretty bad. There are no settings that make it sound acceptable. Laptop itself was fine as expected. Documentation included and documentation available on the DELL website was extremely lacking in coverage, details, and user friendliness. For example the specifications for this laptop states it has a "media card reader" built-in. A thorough review of all documentation failed to even mention such a feature. Two phone calls to DELL also failed to provide any information on even where this accessory was supposed to be located. Five hours of Internet research scanning user forums, FAQs, and parts references finally revealed a tiny unmarked slot 3/4 inch wide under the lip on the front of the case which was the opening for the media card reader. The factory installed Windows 8 was configured with dozens of useless apps pinned to the initial screen after login. I doubt most computer users need a pre-configured 1-click access to E-Bay, Facebook and Twitter. DELL has obviously eliminated documentation to increase profit at the demise of the customer's satisfaction.Tuesday, June 10, 2014
Cheap Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15 031946U 15.6 LED Notebook Core i3 i3-380M
I got this laptop from an IT school. Considering it was part of the tuition and it is supposed to be used FREQUENTLY in class especially for VMs (virtual machines) ie, Server 2003 and Server 2008. I am very disappointed with their (the school) choice of laptop. I eventually upgraded the 4 gb of RAM to 8GB max (cost $50). I had also went ahead and upgraded the stock 5400rpm, 320 GB SATA HD with a crucial 512GB SSD (cost $300). I transfered the whole OS/Drive onto the new SSD via a USB/SATA cable, worked like a charm. Now, instead of waiting literally 5 minutes for Windows 7 to load. The OS is up and running in 30 seconds. For me the cost of $350 was ok, even though I had already kinda' paid for it in my tuition. I use it as a 'test' laptop. I will most likely try to find ways to upgrade/change the FAN and CPU (maybe to an i7).
So, I would value this laptop at $400 max. There are others out there that can be upgraded piece by piece and still be under the asking price of $600.
hope this helps.

I am a low end computer geek, meaning that I know my way around basic functional issues. I build medium end desktops for a hobby. I have had this model for a couple months, and out of the 5 others I have, this is my fave, not too big or small, stable and keeps up with any chore. The display is great. I think the real telling factor of any computer is longevity, so we will see about that a few years down the road. I have an early t satellite (7 yrs old) that is running xp flawlessly to this day.
It is a competent computer but it has a few ergonomic issues for me. The keyboard has flat keys with the letters centered in the key, they are not formed like most keyboards keys (shaped for your fingers) and most keyboards have the letters in the upper left corner of the key. The keyboard works fine but I prefer shaped keys. Most of the connections are located at the right front corner right where I use a mouse (I prefer using a mouse). The Numlock key needs to be set every time you power up. When I open the top the bottom comes with it so you need to hold the base down to open the top.
This a secondary computer for my home so I only have a few programs I need to run with it, it is mostly used to access the internet in a another room in my house from my main computer, and it gets taken on some trips; it serves my use very well. It has the same vertical resolution as my old full screen laptop but it is physically shorter. (All laptops have this style wide screen these days). I won't be watching movies with it so I don't really need a wide screen but the width does help when multiple windows are open but it makes forces the use of a mouse further to the side than I would like. I would prefer a taller screen then a wider one bit no one makes that.

After having another Toshiba laptop for about six years that has been running great, it was time for a new one. Although my other Toshiba worked, it just started getting old and decrepit. I had no reasons not to get another Toshiba since it had served me well. As a student I needed something lightweight and portable to carry around for school/class and this fit the bill. Set up was easy, and I was up and running within 30 minutes. I was able to sneak a deal only paying $363 during their back to school sale. After adjusting a few settings (battery, brightness, display, etc..) I tailored it right to my needs and it has worked flawlessly. The Windows 8 took a bit getting used to, but I almost prefer it. I just wish it was easier to get to some things. But then again, it's easier to get to email, photos, and weather than previous windows. The only downfall is the word processing. It is not that great, but I don't want to spend the extra $$ right now for the Office Suite. The WordPad is pretty annoying, but it gets the job done. Other than the word processing, it is a great computer that I am excited to work with for years to come!Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite C55-A5243NR 15.6-Inch Laptop (Satin Black in Trax

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C55-A laptop about a month ago because it was the only one that had Windows 7 installed (I choose to avoid Win8) so I didn't have much of a choice to replace my aging laptop (wanted one with the current wifi spec). It is a good value for the features. It didn't have bloatware and I only needed to remove one program. It is a competent computer but it has a few ergonomic issues for me. You will be VERY unhappy if you buy this machine. I see a few fake paid-for reviews here, but the fact is that the wireless performance is unacceptable. Lenovo tech support told me that the there is an antenna design flaw and there is NO TIME FRAME FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM. On it's website forum, Lenovo lied about fixing the problem on models manufactured after August 2012.

So this computer has all the specs you could need, SSD for Windows to run in, USB 3.0 for fast transfers, super light and thin. Only issue is that the trackpad seems very touchy, I wish there was a way to separate the buttons from the pad but so far I have not figured it out. Otherwise I would recommend this to others.Friday, May 16, 2014
Cheap Gateway NE71B06u 17.3" Fusion Dual-Core E1-1200 1.4GHz 4GB 500GB
This review is primarily about the location of the USB 3.0 Port.
From the manual: "If a port is black, it is USB 2.0 compatible, if
it is blue it is also USB 3.0 compatible". You will probably need this port for a wireless mouse.
After two days of ownership the computer has performed well for a relatively inexpensive laptop.
Windows 8 is not easy to navigate, to me. The 17.3" screen is bright, big, & very viewable.
Battery life is rated at 4.5 hours, which goes by very fast.I love this laptop. I was skeptical because of the price compared to the stores. This purchase is truly a blessing to me. It looks and performs perfectly. It still has the original plastic . Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Best Asus X54C-BBK15 15.6" Laptop - Intel® Pentium® B960 Deals
This is my fourth laptop. I originally used it just as a backup in my office. When my Toshiba died, I began using it regularly. The keyboard feels cheap, the touchpad making a clicking sound as you use it. It seems to have a mind of its own, with the touchpad sensitivity the likely culprit. It changes font size, opens other programs, etc. for no reason. The connection with my router is much weaker at a distance than with my Toshiba. I should note that it first failed when it was two months old. The customer service was surprisingly good and helped me repair the problem in two hours. However, when friends would extoll the virtues of Dell because its customer service was so good, I would note that it is even better when the computer is so well built that you don't need customer service. I would never buy an ASUS again.

Best Dell Latitude D610 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium M Deals
I normally wouldn't try to buy something like this over the internet, but I really needed a computer so I thought I might as well give it a try and for what they were asking for the laptop, I couldn't refuse!
It arrived 7 days early from the ending shipping date given via UPS. It come very neatly packed a VERY well protected with bubble rap up the wa'zoo! But thats not a bad thing cause it had to travel in a UPS truck!
I got the product and plugged it in and was very happy to see my name on the start up screen! Was thrilled to see that and very unexpected as well! The computer runs great, it needed to perform a couple upgrades via Microsoft, but that only took a minuet or two, nothing big. It runs smooth, no viable damage to the casing of the product or to the keyboard. It runs whisper quiet and I am writing this review on it right now! :)
I have no problems with it and plan to upgrade the hard drive and other compositions to match my gaming qualifications.
Good stuff, Thanks!I brought this laptop and immediately it was disappointing with what i received, as soon as i turned the laptop on a blue screen came on saying that there was a problem with the hardware system no matter how much i tried to restart and reboot it sometime it would work and sometimes it wont. I had to take it to a computer repair service here in Maryland to have it fixed i would never ever buy a laptop from these sellers again.

Already had one LENOVA THINK PAD...needed to replace a very old desktop unit so I went to LENOVA againgreat machinehas been very fast and easy to operate. The one I have already had is a tiny bit slower and has never had a blue screen in its life...LOVE IT
I ordered the T530 from Lenovo USA mainly because of the optional HD matte display (1600x900 or full HD). If that is not a must, you would probably find a better deal from brands like ASUS or at least another series by Lenovo.
N.B.For all practical purposes the optional discrete graphics card in T530 is useless.

I'm a tried and true believer in the ThinkPad line of notebooks. This one does not disappoint. The wireless connection was a little flaky, but after a driver update, all was fine. No major failures yet but the shortcomings of this model (T530 2359, Win 7, 320GB 7200rpm) are almost too numerous to list. Based on my 15+ years of PC user experience, I find the laptop somewhat missing both in hardware design and in performance. Lenovo's bloatware and customer service are also far from flawless for instance, important limitations of the model and manufacturer's international warranty do not appear even in "small print" but rather require extensive searching in dedicated forums, etc.I ordered the T530 from Lenovo USA mainly because of the optional HD matte display (1600x900 or full HD).
