I recently purchased the Toshiba L675D-S7052 laptop for my daughter to use in college. After reading some reviews I was a bit nervous, but went ahead anyway.

I am not disappointed with this purchase. In fact, I'm quite pleased.

I have a lot of confidence in Toshiba Satellite laptops. I started off with a Compaq, years ago. It was nothing but trouble. When I replaced it, I purchased a Toshiba Satellite. I have stuck with Toshiba ever since. I have found that they are a hardly piece of equipment that just keeps going...and going...and going.

One of the things that concerned me, with some reviews, was the claim that this laptop is flimsy, bendable and liable to all sorts of bad things. I have not found that to be the case whatsoever. This laptop is nicely protected and is made out of a decent, sturdy material. It appears it can take a beating bouncing around in someone's car and backpack. I'm both comfortable and confident giving this to a teenager.

I am a fan of AMD processors. In my experience, I have grown to prefer them over Intel processors. This Phenom II Dual core processor appears to have plenty of power and speed. One thing my daughter requested, was that she could play games on it. She made me promise her. Guess what? This little laptop does just fine.

I am not too happy with the fact that this Windows 7 (64bit) version regularly sucks up 1.2 gigs of RAM just to operate. But then again, it comes with 4 gigs of RAM and is upgradable to 8. If I decide to add more RAM, it will take me all of one minute to install it.

One of my main concerns was with the number of USB ports. Many of the new laptop models only have two. That made me nervous for a couple of reasons. One, laptops get hot, so we're going to need to plug in a cooling pad. Two, some external hard drives require two USB slots to power themselves. Three, beside the other two...where is she going to plug in her mouse?

I didn't need to worry. I sat the laptop on the kitchen table all day long as I updated Windows, installed software and tested out the system. After sitting on the table without a cooling pad for 8 hours, i picked up the thing and it was still cool. I mean...really cool. My personal laptop gets so hot you need a cooling pad. After running hard for 8 hours, this little unit felt like it was still sitting at room temperature. This is nice.

It is also my understanding, correct me if I am wrong, but the newer external hard drives are back down to one slot. However, even if I am wrong, we still have three to play with. So, if it takes two to run an external hard drive, we still have another slot for a mouse.

Here is a nice feature: Ever had trouble with a laptop when you are typing and the cursor moves all over the place because of the pressure on the keyboard? I have experience this with IBM, HP, Compaq and Toshiba units in the past. However, on this unit...just below the space bar...there is a tiny button that can disable the built in mouse pad. When you want to use it again, just press the button and it starts working again. Nice!

Only thing I didn't like very much, was that the keys seem to show fingerprints easily. However, they are easily wiped off.

The 17 inch screen is beautiful.

I am very pleased with this purchase.

Awesomeness: Price, screen size, hard drive size, low heat, thin

Whine Factor: No Blu-Ray, no Bluetooth

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7052 17.3-Inch Laptop (Fusion Finish in

After owning several problem-free Compaq and Dell laptops over the past 15 years, I made the mistake of buying my first Toshiba, a Satellite L675D. I admit that I was enthralled by the 17" display. Big mistake. HUGE MISTAKE. Less than four months after purchase, my wife opened the laptop one evening and the screen showed a crack in the upper right corner. I sent the laptop to the Toshiba repair depot and they claim she accidently damaged it and they want $325 to repair it. BTW, the entire system only cost $530 brand new. According to Toshiba Customer Relations (and I quote) the "accident was caused by opening the case too hard". I asked how that was even possible. Seriously, how do you open a laptop too hard? Toshiba said (and I quote), "you could have pulled too hard". If anyone from Toshiba is reading this, refer to T1-1174583 case # 110 331 001 320. I swear these are exact quotes. I currently own several Toshiba products, but after this experience I will never purchase another Toshiba product of any type in my lifetime. And now whenever I see someone even looking at a Toshiba laptop in Best Buy, HHGreg, WalMart, etc, I will warn them not to even consider Toshiba. Stick with manufacturers who stand behind their products. Toshiba is not one of them.

I bought a refurbished version of this specific laptop (2.2.GHz Celeron, 298GB HDD, 4GB RAM, Win7 Home Premium 64 Bit) from Asus at a very reasonable price. It took a little setting up as the documentation was pretty poor, and I had to download a few new drivers to get all the functions working, but overall I am pleased so far with this laptop after 2+ months.

The screen is a decent size and the keyboard has a nice feel. I like the ability to set different display modes, including a "gamma correction" setting. The processor seems adequate and I am able to do some fairly intense image processing using GIMP, generating huge files with no problem.

The only negative in my view is the low number of USB ports. There are only 2 so if you want to use a tablet, mouse and external drives too it becomes a bit of a chore.

Overall though I am very pleased with this laptop and would recommend it for everyday tasks.

I'm a PC, but I'm also a Mac. A Macbook Air (MBA) to be exact. I'm very much into design so it just made sense. I first considered something like the Dell Adamo, Latitude Z or the HP ENVY13, But the Dells were heavily under-powered processor-wise. The HP was crazy powerful, but heftier than I would have liked. The Latitude's Euro design gave the MBA's design a run for it money, but it starts at over two grand and you'll easily knock on $2500 with the bells and whistles, Yikes! The HP ENVY 13 is very powerful and the only ultra-portable with the i7 processor. But for what I'll be using this for, the mobility and price is more important to me. The Adamo seemed to match the price and features of the Macbook Air best, but finding that the design, feature and price pretty much a draw (I personally thought the MBA had a very small edge on Design), I settled on the MBA because of the fact that I can run Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X(which I also use for different purposes)and the better build quality. I have to say, the unibody design really makes the thing feel as if it was carved from one piece of aluminum. There's minimal flex to speak of. Closed, it just feels so nice in your hands.

The 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor is a lot better than the 1.2 and 1.4 that are available in the Dells; more than enough for my usage. This might have been a bit meek had I not already had an Intel Core 2 Quad Desktop computer at home. This also made HP ENVY pointless.

The screen is more than adequate and much better than a netbook. Since it's so light, it really can go anywhere a netbook can. The nice Keyboard and trackpad was also refreshing.

The Solid State Drive is also nice, but after some usage, I really don't find them all that different from a standard HD, perhaps a bit faster, but not that noticeable. It certainly is cooler and less noisy. Some users have complained about it getting a bit warm, but I'm thinking they've got an HD instead of an SSD.

And now for the few CONs:

No optical drive since I won't be needing this too often it's not a big deal. I already have an external Blu-Ray Drive that I used to install everything. Once that was done, I can only image using it for an occasion Blu-Ray/DVD movie, but even this will be rare, unless I'm in a hotel room somewhere and bore out of my mind.

Connectivity:

No Ethernet, big deal! It's all about wireless!

Weird Mini Display port also not a big deal since I don't imaging connecting an external monitor to this much.

Only one USB This one, I admit, is pretty significant. It was a bit of hassle to swap USB devices a bit, but again, I only use multiple devices a handful of times (mainly a USB DJ Console Mixer and an external USB HD containing the music I want to mix). I got a little griffin USB "Splitter" which was nothing more than a very tiny USB Hub, but it did have some trouble getting enough power to the HD from this one USB port, so I did have to add a USB power cable to the mix (the audio was clipping heavily during mixing and transition). So keep that in mind if you're planning to daisy-chain three hard drives, a soda cooler and a reading light to the USB portjust don't. It works fine with the majority of other (low powered) USB devices.

RAM Here's the other big CON! While 2GB of RAM will probably be ok for now, but I would have loved having the option of adding more. I have 8GB on my desktop and I actually use it (photo and video editing, media center functions, terminal services, etc.)! While I'm not doing much of that (maybe a little Photoshoping) on this thing, all it takes is that killer application that requires at least 4GB of RAM that I can't use that will drive me nuts!

I have a first generation Macbook Pro from work and I always loved the design of it. This takes things to the next level. I'm primarily a Windows user, and this seems to work a bit more seamlessly with Windows than the Macbook Pro(although with the latest drivers and software updates for bootcamp from apple, it got better). It's kinda odd that I went with an Mac to run Windows, but it was a calculated choice. Had I been looking for a full-function laptop, it would have likely been an HP or Dell.

the apple air is great, even this older hard drive model (the new ones run flash memory virtual discs, this one has a standard hard disc)...but...it reached me with a bad ding in a corner of the case cover, still works ok, but won't close 100%, and, frankly, it looks like 6/10 more than 9/10...my 2 cts.

The computer came in the shape it was described with a small indentation on the bottom. Not very noticeable. Everything seems in working condition although the battery came in need of replacing but I suppose that's inevitable with an older laptop.

Honest reviews on Apple MacBook Air MC233LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)

I love my MBA. I travel a lot and the weight was my primary concern. This machine is great it does everything I need it to do. Because the computing world is mostly in the cloud these days all you really need is a device to connect wireless or wire up with the included USB LAN adapter. I travel internationally so skype is my primary means of communication. The camera and microphone are great. The MBA is the Ipad with a camera. If you travel and don't want to lug a lot of weight get an MBA

I absolutely love the MacAir it's very light, has many more features than a PC, it's faster, everyday I find new things that I'm impressed with. My only complaint is the brief manual does not make going from a PC to a Mac very easy. I have used computers for many years but I am not a whiz with computers. I have not gone through the tutorials on line which I may have to do. I purchased a book that claimed it explained everything you needed to know about converting from a PC to a Mac very disappointed. I like to "read" from a manual/book how to do something specific. That's the only reason for a 4 Star.

**update 8/21**

this computer screams...no junk..nothing! i took things a step further (i guess i was bored) the other week and completely formatted the laptop with a fresh copy of windows 8 via usb.

this gets really kinda techie so if your not up to the task just skim over this part of the review.

from Microsoft's terms of service. "May I make a backup copy? Yes, you may make a single copy of the software for backup purposes.."

do the following at your own risk.

with some google searching...you will need to download the official .iso format of windows 8 file named: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso and make sure it matches the id sum: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4. (official version)

after thats downloaded then google: Windows7-USB-DVD-tool (don't worry it works with win 8 too)

run the program and select the .iso and make your bootable usb of windows 8. (i used a 4gb sandisk thumb drive)

copy all the files off the same thumb drive and reformat the drive to a fat32. why? samsung boot cant read NTFS format.

then put all the boot files you took off back on the newly formatted thumb drive.

unplug the usb drive.

reboot your pc. repeat pressing f2 during boot to enter bios.

change under advanced tab fast bios mode to disabled.

change usb charge in sleep mode to enabled.

save settings and reboot. put in the win8 usb in the 2.0 usb slot (right side) and boot to bios again by repeatedly pressing f2.

go to boot tab change your boot order to the usb instead of the hard drive to top of list. save and exit.

win 8 install screen will boot. select the install a fresh copy option. delete all partitions. install win8. you will not need a win 8 key. you own win 8 and the key is imbeded in the samsung bios system. there will be no option to put a key in.

when booted in windows 8 and you have a big smile that your computer is completely clean...do a google search and download the sw update software. re download all software/drivers via samsungs software.

everything work like a charm now. fresh and clean windows 8.

i also recommend start 8 software. i prefer a desktop experience and having a start button like win7.

afterwards, go back into bios and reverse your settings to the defaults, what they were before you changed them.

enjoy friends!

**update 6/26**

just a quick heads up!

do not bother updating to the new intel driver released 6/4/13 for wifi.

i tried it for a couple days and the wifi issues came right back again.

just stay on the microsoft wifi driver and you will be fine.

**update 6/19**

after a month this computer is still a beast. after reading the long thread and discussion about putting in a SSD, and it being too difficult i figured i would give a shot at installing one. (remember now i have no tech experience). well let me tell you it was retarded easy...and i did it in 20 minutes. and man this thing screams!!!

so you want to upgrade the ssd? do it. its easy. and don't worry the back comes off super easy and no it wont snap if you pull carefully.

steps you ask? don't mind if i do. :)

(before proceeding with this please order some nitrile latex free gloves and a micro philips screwdriver)

*order the samsung 840 ssd with the data transfer cable kit. (to clone your current hard drive)

*install data migration tool off samsung website and clone hard drive. (it took about 45 min)

*shut down computer, flip over computer, unscrew ALL back screws.

*start at front computer corner (left or right, doesn't matter) with a credit card pop up the edge.

*take that same card and push it down the crack on the whole front side of computer.(it will pop all the clips out, don't worry it wont break)

*do the same on both sides pulling the cover back. only thing now that should be connected is the back corner hinge things.

*push the back plate forward off the hinges and the enire backplate will come off.

*unscrew harddrive mount screws.

*unscrew hard drive holder screws.

*replace hard drive with ssd.

*reverse all your steps and re-boot.

this thing boots in 3 seconds now completely and opens all programs instantly.

ill post a few pics under user pics. enjoy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ive had this laptop for a few days so far so i will update this review as time goes on.

the good:

1920x1080p resolution w/touch on a ultra book style laptop.

dedicated GPU plus integrated.(good for those who play a game now and then)

back-lit keyboard

the touchbad: i love it, works almost as well as a mac...no joke.

amazing speakers...no joke very good for a laptop.

solid built laptop with premium feel.

decently thin with what i think is a perfect size screen/keyboard

aluminum body.

small power brick.

5ghz wireless support.

decent battery life.

2 video outs (hdmi/vga for dual monitor support)

core i7/8gb ram

the bad:

no solid state hard drive (you can notice it slows loading speeds down a tad)

no matte screen :( screen will have smudges especially touching with your finger.

aluminum body does leave smudges, but not that bad.

the plastic in-between the keys on the keyboard is GLOSSY! so dumb. it gets all greasy looking in-between keys. the picture they have showing it on here it looks matte but believe me its not...not a huge deal but whatever.

fn lock key, adjustable everything, u can even turn the fan noise down or completely off.

THE BIGGEST CON?

Intel 6235 wifi driver. If you on wifi it cuts you off randomly sometimes...and its really annoying, It is not the chip its the DRIVER. was almost a deal breaker but heres the fix:

getting rid of the "intel" driver and reverting to Microsoft driver.

1. Uninstall the Intel Proset wireless software/driver from the computer under control panel uninstall program. (not the blue tooth just the wireless)...after thats done..

2. Open device manager/network adapters

3. double click centrino advanced-n 6235

4.click driver tab

5. It should say driver provider Microsoft / 12/5/2011 / 14.8.8.75

6. click events tab to see if driver service added was (NETwNe64)

that will fix the drop problems.

then fine tune your adapter

1. click tab power management / uncheck allow computer to turn device off to save power

2. click tab advanced / make sure transmit power is set to highest

well i love this thing. its awesome. its slick. its powerful and it will make you very happy.

questions? just ask.

buy it

Ok--all the reviews about this laptop are true. It's great for the money.

However, there are some design considerations to keep in mind. 1rst--the battery is buried in the unit. So you won't be able to swap out the battery (or take the battery out). 2nd--unlike some other laptops (ASUS comes to mind)...this Samsung laptop comes out of sleep & hibernation via the power button... hitting any key won't do it; you HAVE to use the power button. 3rd--if you hold down the power button for 5-20 seconds, it doesn't necessarily reboot.

This combination opens the door to a catastrophic failure. If you get stuck in sleep mode...how will you reboot the computer into post? That's what happened to me after the first morning with this laptop. If holding down the power button doesn't work to reboot out of sleep mode, then SOP is to take out the battery--except you can't with this unit. Engineering woopsie. There is a little pin hole in the back that is supposed to disengage the battery but my suspicion is that it doesn't fully do so. Likewise it might be pretty hard to total drain the battery. So your stuck in sleep mode.

After the first day with my new laptop I had what amounted to a brick blinking 'sleep mode'. I called Samsung customer support--the guy was real nice but he couldn't get the laptop out of sleep mode any more than I could.

Thank goodness I bought with Amazon. I was able to return this Samsung unit with no problems and I bought another brand with better engineering.

Pros: Nice design, solid feeling keyboard, touchscreen, good specs

Cons: WiFi Drop-outs, Auto back-lit Keyboard, Heating/Fan Issue (on first laptop), minor smudging, no SSD

May 14th 2013

Received this laptop today and almost immediately noticed it had a fan and heating issue. Alot of heat keeps being produced at minimal cpu usage (only surfing the internet) so the fan, located right underneath the screen by the hinge, keeps kicking into an abnormally high rpm to cool down the system. The system continually becomes very hot and the top of the keyboard, possibly thanks to the fan location, becomes hot to the touch as well. This includes the 3 or 4 top rows of keys, making it extremely uncomfortable to use for even brief typing periods. Also putting the computer into the lower performance mode with the F11 Fn doesnt do much to fix this heating issue.

In short this means it is a very loud and extremely hot system most of the time... which needless to say completely ruins the computer.

I contacted Samsung about the issue and after about a good 45 minutes they suggested i send the laptop in for repair. I am awaiting a replacement laptop from amazon at the moment, will update to see if same issue occurs or if it's just an isolated defect.

During the periods of time when it is not behaving this way however i am pleased with the laptop (although keep in mind ive only had it for a few hours now). The keyboard is surprisingly very comfortable, the touchscreen works well, and the overall mechanical build is of high quality. The screen has almost no wobble but has some reflection to it like any device. The 1080p graphics on it are a surprising huge step up from the 720p of my 4 year old laptop too.

The matte finish of the case unfortunately allows for minor smudging, which might bother some especially if moving from a silver finish like myself, but isnt a major annoyance. The few times i tested the JBL speakers i was impressed. They are certainly nice especially compared to your typical laptop speakers.

Apart from these minor things and the heating issue I had the Ativ book 6 is a first rate computer by my standards.

5/16/13:

Received replacement laptop yesterday and was suffering from same heating/fan issue initially for a bit even after the initialization and all the updates were completed. Today however the fan has been low and heat minimal unlike the initial laptop. Ran the replacement laptop at max cpu usage and experienced the same heat as what the initial laptop experienced at 3% usage, fan wasnt interchanging btwn rpms though which is another good sign for this one. Also confirms something was terribly wrong with the first unit. Additionally putting it into low power mode with F11 puts the fan to a whisper even quieter than the 'low' rpm it has been at today (had no effect one defective unit fyi).

To be more specific than before the defective computer became very hot where the fan blows causing the keyboard keys to become hot and uncomfortable. Fan would not run at a consistent rpm for a long duration but rather interchanged between medium and high, along with a rare low, when simply browsing the internet. Running the photoshop app alongside certainly made it worse. Plugging the battery charger in also causes the fan to increase rpm and vice versa independent of the charge on the battery too on both computers.

5/27/13:

Had this replacement computer for awhile now and was experiencing frequency wifi drop-outs and connectivity issues. After uninstalling the intel driver and reverting to the windows one (as described by dissed in the review below) I have not experienced any issues! Had to change power settings as well so that the computer wouldnt turn off the wifi to save power.

Another issue is that the computer automatically turns on the keyboard back-lighting during low light conditions. The reason this is an issue is that you are unable to turn this off and unable to control the brightness level.

Certainty had alot of headaches with the defect unit and wifi issues, these things aside this laptop runs great!

So in quick summary computer initially has lots of wifi issues/drop-outs and is prone to become a bit hot/noisy under heavy loads. Unable to turn off keyboard back-lighting during the night and smudging is pretty common on the casing (but not too bad). Battery life was about 4.5 hours in my case which is alright considering the i7 and graphics card inside this laptop. Lastly had to make a few setting changes due to alot of automated things that dont make any sense (like putting the computer into sleep mode after 1min idle on battery and disconnecting wifi adapter after 5min). Meaning that someone who isnt great with computers might want to avoid all this hassle.

Honest reviews on Samsung ATIV Book 6 15.6-Inch Full HD Touchscreen Laptop (Mineral

I love everything about this laptop. The display is gorgeous Full HD. The JBL speakers are fantastic. The touchscreen is very responsive as well. I do have a couple issues with this Laptop though. It came with a dead pixel to the left center of the screen, it's only really noticeable when watching darker videos or darker backgrounds. But during those particular times, it can be quite annoying. On top of that, I'm having the same WiFi issues as the other two reviewers are having so far. If I am just sitting in a webpage typing and the laptop isn't attempting to connect it's fine and seems to be working great. But if I go to youtube or another website to watch an HD video, sometimes even just a basic webpage, the WiFi will start doing the same thing as the other reviewers. As expensive as this laptop is, I'd expect the Wifi to work properly.

I love Samsung products, I own a Galaxy Note 2 cell phone, I have a Samsung Google Chromebook, a Samsung HD Television, and now this laptop. I'm hoping I can have it replaced with a model that has a fixed WiFi card and preferably without the dead pixel. I'm going to give it a day or so and see if the WiFi issue gets resolved, but if it doesn't I will most definitely be returning the laptop and hopefully having it replaced with a fully working model.

So I'm giving this Laptop a 2/5 for shipping with a dead Pixel and a pretty terrible WiFi issue. Changing battery settings didn't help my issue at all. But I'll happily give this a 5/5 if I can get the dead pixel and wifi issue resolved.

----------------------------------------------------

UPDATE:

I received my replacement Laptop today and the WiFi was still an issue for me. After reading "Dissed" review (which was added after my original review) I followed his advice and deleted the default Intel WiFi drivers and let them roll back to the basic Microsoft drivers and I've had Zero issues since then. The WiFi is working perfectly and quickly. It's also nice that this unit has no dead pixels. (also, my original model was having Touchpad issues that I didn't notice until after I wrote my original review) this unit has zero issues with that at all. It's an amazing laptop with a top quality screen. Worth every penny. I have now kept my promise and will upgrade this review to a 5/5. Fantastic Purchase so far.

I must say, this laptop was a great purchase and I have zero regrets. Its a touch on the heavy side for a laptop this size, but the trade off is an easy one; its feels incredibly sturdy. There are couple of issues that are definitely not make or break, but are quality of life wishes and things to maybe consider:

Windows 8, while not as awful as it is made out to be, is pretty bad. The curve is somewhat steep moving from Windows 7, but not insurmountable. Red a guide before the purchase and pick one up frequently as you use this machine. It helps.

The WiFi does drop out when you close the lid and open it up. a quick toggle of the airplane switch turns it back on. This can likely be controlled via some of the device/power options, it its so incredibly minor, I haven't even poked around.

The Catalyst control panel is a bit confusing, but once its sorted an properly set up, the switching between graphics cards is seamless and the Radeon sings and the heat output is not that much greater.

The speakers are on the bottom of the laptop. Odd choice, I thought, but I usually (if not always) have headphones on.

The bloatwaree is fairly easy to remove.

The good is great though:

The graphics are stellar and the display when cranked to the max is beautiful. Deep, rich and colorful.

The backlit keyboard is great, it is bright enough to be seen in a well lit room and not so bright that it burns out your retinas in a dark one.

It's a pretty quick little computer; the hard drive is spacey as well.

The laptop itself runs quietly and with very little heat even after an hour or two of run.

The touchscreen is very responsive; much more so than many of the floor models I've seen at certain electronics stores.

I would buy it again and not think twice about it. Dollar for dollar, I have yet to see a better value.Suggestion, however: grab a windows 8 compatible mouseLogitech Zone Touch Mouse T400 for Windows 8 Black (910-003041) for instance.

I've owned several laptops and would be considered an intermediate to advanced computer user. I've built my own desktops, tweaked a few laptops and owned various brands of laptops including HP, Fujitsu, Sony and Dell (Inspiron, Latitude and XPS series).

I purchased this laptop directly from Dell based upon Consumer Report's November 2009 article recommendations where the Dell Inspiron 1545 was rated a 'Best Buy' for every day computing. I purchased it for my husband who will use it primarily for watching an occasional movie from Netflix streaming wirelessly on our home network, emailing to share jokes and videos with his friends, and browsing the Internet.

After setting it up, which other than running into a snag with my home network was a breeze, and playing with it for about an hour, these are my impressions.

The PROS:

+ Comes with Windows 7 no need to upgrade, and the 64-bit combined with the more than adequate memory makes things move nicely. Slightly different than Vista's look, but should be easy to use.

+ Adequate hard drive (mine came with a 320) for storing photos, videos and music.

+ Great 1.3mp webcam which delivers pretty nice snapshots (not too grainy) as well as excellent video (very little drag of movement).

+ Good speakers! Better than those on my Dell XPS, for which I paid 30% more less than a year ago.

+ 3 usb ports

+ Bright 15.6" display; nice size. I sometimes find the 13" on the XPS too small and the Fujitsu had a 17" which is fine for a desktop replacement but really adds weight to the overall unit.

+ Virtually silent running. No fan noise to speak of and yet...

+ Stays cool to the touch! Not worried about overheating on this one.

The CONS:

Keyboard is OK, but not as responsive as some others I've used.

The touchpad seems a tad small and the buttons (left/right click) seem too low by comparison to the keyboard. It could be the size of my hands (small...) but I tend to think it's just the layout.

The high gloss finish inside and the glossy display (versus matte finish) look cool, but do show fingerprints and reflect light to the point of sometimes being a nuisance.

There is no 'media only' button like on the XPS where you don't have to turn on the computer to watch a movie, but this is something that higher end laptops would have and may simply be a perk to paying more.

Heavier than some others, but at under six pounds, it's still not too bad.

Matte finish on the outside shows greasy smudges where you've touched it. I have the same issue with my XPS, but frankly I've never found a finish that doesn't show something.

Not a multi-media or gaming powerhouse. It will play dvd's and games, but if you're buying a laptop and really into those things, spend a bit more and make sure you upgrade your video and audio to support your interests. The 4GB of memory really helps as much as anything and I didn't notice any issues with the media I tested.

SET-UP:

The only issue I had with setting up this laptop was with my home network not being accepted because Windows 7 didn't like the security settings I had in place. I could get the 1545 to recognize my network, but it wouldn't connect until I changed the settings. I had my wireless settings on WEP and Windows 7 wanted WPA. Once I changed the settings, the laptop connected. I then had to go to 8 different devices on my network and make sure they were happy. Only one item: Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor wasn't happy, but eventually accepted the settings with some concentrated tweaking.

BATTERY LIFE:

Battery life seems to be about 3.5 hours. I think the 4+ hour estimate is high, but that undoubtedly is also based upon what things you are doing on the laptop and mobile power settings.

CONCLUSION:

If you purchase this Dell you are getting a solid workhorse for every day computing for a fair price. I think it's quality is certainly higher than an Acer with the same specs, and backed by a 1 year warranty from Dell. (Having had a Dell laptop that needed the keyboard replaced recently, I truly think the warranty service provided by Dell they came to my house the next day is exceptional and worth the small price hike over some other brands.)

The Dell Inspiron 1545 is perfect for a student, a grandma who likes to email or wants to keep up with the grandkids on Skype, or anyone who has no need for the latest and greatest gaming, multi-media computer. For a laptop with a webcam, 4GB memory, and Windows 7 (64-bit) that's ready to fly right out of the box... it's a good choice.

**WIRELESS NOTE: If you are having trouble connecting to a wireless network, be sure you check the included 'set-up guide', page 10, to find the wireless key on your keyboard. You can inadvertently press this key and turn off your wireless capabilities. Handy on airplanes... not so handy at home.

The performance of this laptop is outstanding compared to most laptops in the price range. It's unfortunate that Dell decided to preload Mcafee's security suite on the machine. Uninstalling Mcafee disables your network connection preventing you to get online. Reading up on this machine, it seems many people have this issue with the Mcafee suite. After reinstalling all of the software, this machine is pretty speedy. If you aren't sure how to reinstall Windows and all of the applications, be prepared to pay for subscriptions to Mcafee. You will be permanently offline if you choose to remove it.

The webcam will keep kids entertained for hours with its facial recognition software. You can put goofy hair, hats, and other decorations on your face real-time. Not really a practical feature, but it is pretty cool.

Aside from software bugs on the machine, this is an awesome computer, and it feels quite sturdy. It seems to be a pretty solid machine, and I think I will enjoy having it.

Pros

Windows 7 runs well.

Wonderful widescreen display

Plenty of ram (4gb)

Speedy processor for a laptop

Built in webcam software with facial recognition is awesome!

Battery life is decent for a machine this size.

Machine runs very quiet.

Keyboard is very quiet, and buttons are easy to press.

Very attractive computer.

Cons

Built-in Mcafee software disables your network connection if you uninstall it.

Dell includes reinstallation discs, not recovery discs.

Most of the pre-loaded apps cannot be reinstalled from their DVDs if you choose to reinstall windows.

Glossy finish on the inside of the laptop is prone to fingerprints/smudges.

Lack of dedicated media buttons (shared with F1-F12 keys)

No HDMI

No Bluetooth

No Blu-ray

Only 3 USB ports

Lack of 10 keypad

I bought mine from Dell with a little better price but I buy a lot from Amazon and find the reviews helpful. I have a Dell XPS which is a high end Dell and running my benchmarks it is really preforms quite well considering the cost. Like one lady said the sound is better than the xps, maybe the best I have heard on a laptop. The screen is about a 1/2 inch shorter from top to bottom but about 1/2 inch wider. I thought I would be to skinny like the new 16:9 but its fine. The screen is excellent in sharpness and color very good. The intel graphics card is ample for video and is ok for older games. I am not a gamer high end graphics are not a issue. It does have 32mb of its own ram and the rest is shared. Dell has finally installed a app to back up the system for restore like other oems. The roxio is pretty much worthless and you need something else for the normal burning that windows 7 cant do.Mine came with 15 months of mcafee and I uninstalled it as soon as I got it. It is a resource hog and will slow your computer to a crawl at times. Microsoft finally has a free security essentials app instead of having to pay someone else to protect your computer and I use it as well as Avira anti virus (free)from time to time. I am going on 4 hours battery now and the battery says I have 50 minutes left. It only has 1 led for power and low battery, I dont care for this and prefer a full set of leds to let me know whats going on. Software indicators work but or a cost cutting feature.

My only problem is the space bar feels loose at times and hinges for the monitor are quite stiff and hope they don't break.

I have had my share of problems with Dell and have sent back 2 different computers. To be honest this is the best computer for the money I have had. Only time will tell if it holds up or not but I am quite happy with it. Charging $40.00 for a different color (on there website)lid is a rip off to me, but each to their own. Mine came with 3gb ram and I added a 2gb chip for 4gb I had and it does make a difference. I would keep an eye on the price as they do change. One of the main reasons I bought this is because I despised vista, but I have had no problems with 7. My wifi and networked worked with no problems.

Update: a nice feature that might confuse some people is that the fn key need not be pushed to use the media keys and the sound volume and brightness. There is a bios setting that can change the priority of the fn key to media first or number keys (like f1 f2 f3) first) It is set by default to media first. I have never seen this before but I like this feature.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron 1545 15.6-Inch Jet Black Laptop - Up to 4 Hours 34

We bought the Dell Inspiron 15 (1545) to replace an aging ACER laptop as an "everyday" laptop for my teen son to use for homework and casual gaming. For the price, the performance, features and display have far exceeded our expectations. While not a gaming or graphics power machine, it has more than enough processor speed, memory, and hard drive space for our needs.

This is a very simple laptop to set up and use. The box only contains the PC (with battery already installed), the power supply, and a packet of software CDs (which I did not use) with minimal documentation. The instructions recommended charging the laptop for 12 hours before using the battery, which was fine as I just left it plugged in while configuring the machine. The initial setup took about 20 minutes, and was very straight forward as it found and connected right away to my WEP protected home WiFi network. The Windows 7 configuration was straight forward and no errors were encountered. Dell also recommends updating the BIOS right away and the instructions are included in the documentation. It was a very easy process and only took another 20 minutes or so to complete.

PROS:

+ Windows 7 is preinstalled 64 bit OS, works well

+ Very Nice 15.6" Screen Very clear and bright

+ Good Webcam and Software Provides better than expected image and video quality

+ Fast DVD+RW Drive

+ Large Hard Drive

+ Large Amount of RAM

+ Good Touchpad very responsive and doesn't have the "random jump" issue seen on other laptops

CONS:

Only 3 USB Ports, no HDMI, Firewire, etc

Finish is a Fingerprint Magnet!

Limited Pre-installed Software Comes with MS Works and a MS PowerPoint Reader

Overall this is a good value laptop that will meet most general daily office, homework, and web surfing needs.

I have been using an ancient desktop computer for far too long, and to upgrade it would have been more trouble than it was worth. I had been looking into getting a laptop for quite a while, as I wanted something I could take to my band's rehearsals to record demos and burn copies for my bandmates to work on songs. My father surprised me with the Inspiron 1545 for my birthday a month ago, and so far I have had little to no trouble with it whatsoever.

I have not really used this laptop for gaming much, but everything I have used it for works fast and flawlessly. I do a lot of photo editing, art, and music recording, and even when multitasking everything runs smoothly. I have also never had an error resulting in any loss of data (this should be a given, but coming from the machine I had been using, it is a blessing). I primarily use simple single-track audio recording, but I have also installed and on occasion have used professional multi-track recording software for writing and recording music at home (one track at a time), and it seems to run very well on this system. The built-in speakers aren't the greatest quality, but I haven't found many laptops that do have great speakers. It is also very easy to plug it into my HDTV in order to use an extended desktop, which is very convenient for programs like Photoshop.

This laptop is plenty powerful enough for the average user's needs, and unless you're looking to do a lot of PC gaming I don't think you would need anything much more powerful. I did buy Spore and have played that a bit and it ran fine, but otherwise I cannot speak for its gaming capabilities. It would likely be sub-par for any graphics intensive games.

The only real complaint I have is that the touchpad occasionally seems to not want to respond properly. This is a rare occurrence, and taking my finger off of it for a few seconds usually seems to solve the problem, but it is very frustrating when it happens. Also, double-tapping the touchpad works as if you are holding the left-click (which I believe is standard), but it is far too sensitive and too easy to accidentally activate this feature. These are minor annoyances, but annoyances nonetheless and are primarily why I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5.

I have, fortunately, not had to deal with Dell's customer service (and of course I hope that I will not have to) so I can't speak for that aspect of the company. From what I have read they seem to have a growing reputation for poor customer service, but I will not subtract from my rating based on reputation. I will say that when I went to their site to download drivers I was recommended to try their download manager which did not work. Once you try to use this feature it will not give you the option to simply download the drivers directly until you delete your browser cookies. If they are able to over-complicate something as simple as downloading drivers (the most basic aspect of tech support) I shudder to think what I may have to deal with if real problems arise.

I feel that I should point out that it is difficult to judge any Windows-based PC by reading user reviews. I have read a good many reviews of laptops where the consumer is unhappy with the product due to crashes, slowdowns, slow startups or other problems after a couple weeks to a month or more of use, and more often that not those problems arise due to viruses/driver conflicts/general software problems and not a flaw in the hardware itself. Most people that aren't very tech-savvy that have problems with a PC/laptop in the first couple months will immediately blame the hardware instead of their questionable browsing/downloading habits. Too many people don't realize that having fifteen instant messengers, weatherbug, and other unneeded programs running at startup WILL cause it to take longer to start up. I recommend anyone reading user reviews on these types of things to keep that in mind.

To summarize, this laptop has been great for me thus far, and other than some minor quirks with the touchpad I have really had no problems to speak of. It starts up fast, I never have problems with slowdown even when multitasking with more demanding programs, and though I was hesitant about Windows 7 after the abomination that was Vista, I find myself absolutely loving it.

For the price, I would definitely recommend this laptop.

This is an excelent computer! However you must know that it brings a lot of extra Sony programs (software) that gets your computer VERY SLOW. Uninstall all those programs as soon as you open your computer and that will fix the speed problem.

After about 10 uses and only 6 weeks after purchase, unit went totally dead. Sony "customer service"( a term used loosely) has promised, promised and promised to make it repair and has failed to deliver on every account changing story every time an inquiry is made never actually doing anything promised. Save yourself the headache on this one... I wish I had. This is not a knock on Amazon as purchased elsewhere just trying help everyone else considering this brand.

The first few months i was happy with the product then all of a sudden it decides to start heating up. The sony center says they will replace the sink, fair enough everything cant be perfect. In the meantime i bought then accident warranty which extends the protection for 2 years. Turns out the heat sink was just the beginning, few months later the power source stopped working and they did replace it. then again in a month the mother board crashes, they take a whole month to replace it. Then finally the keyboard stops working. At this point i asked them to either replace my computer or give me my money. They come back with neither even though i paid extra to extend the warranty. From this day on i have decided never to buy another sony product ever again. Sad to see such a company fall to such levels

This SONY PC is nice! Once out of the box I proceeded to connect to the Internet and made the three recovery discs using blank DVD + R discs. This process was simple using the on screen directions.

Other than having to buy software that used to be included in days gone by this computer rocks for the price, technical specifications and quality of being a SONY.

I actually ended up purchasing mine from Best Buy because it was a little cheaper there. You immediately notice the speed of the quad core i5. They only clock this one at 1.8GHz but it performs much faster. To put it into perspective, my previous laptop was an AMD Sempron at 2.2GHz and this machine is much faster. The 6GB of memory really helps. I don't do a lot of gaming, but I do multitask all the time and the memory helps to keep the system from bogging down. The touchscreen is kind of cool although I'm not really sure I need it. A lot of people don't like Windows 8 and I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it or not, but that doesn't change the fact that this is still a very solid laptop for the money you pay. Another thing I noticed about this machine is that they did a good job with ventilation. I have had issues with overheating with past laptops and it seems like they setup their cooling very well here. If you're looking for a solid Ultrabook that won't hurt your wallet too much, I would highly recommend this unit.

I actually bought this computer from Best Buy. When I went in and looked around this one seemed like the best deal. It looks pretty slick and has all the right features.

Cons:

THE MOUSE PAD! Oh man, the mouse pad. Horrible. It doesn't actually have an indentation for the left and right click, it is underneath, so I when I went to click on something the courser would move because it thought my finger was moving.

It is SLOW! when I got it all up and running it was having a hard time loading the programs. It would take a good amount of time to just load Microsoft Word.

I didn't like the fact that I would have to hit the 'function' key and the up and down button for the volume control.

WINDOWS 8 IS HORRIBLE! I could have lived with the mouse pad and gotten more RAM for the computer, but I couldn't live with Windows 8.

Pros:

Touchscreen is a pretty cool feature to have when you want to play games.

The back-light on the keyboard is really helpful.

Sound is good, but ain't no beats by Dre.

Webcam is really clear.

Keys are nice and quiet, but spaced a little apart.

I am having this laptop delivered to me this week. Hopefully it works out better.

This is one of the best laptops I've ever purchased, and I've gone through plenty. The combo of Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel's i3 processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM make for a fast and smooth functioning PC. Battery life is on par with other laptops. The LED display is very nice and for a 15.6" screen, it's lighter than I expected. Looks great, I like the slim form factor makes it similar to a Macbook in that regard! A+ for Dell on this laptop.

Just a caution about purchasing a USED Dell Laptop. Dell has become very demanding about transferring ownership. Probably for several reasons they now require the name, address and purchase order number OF THE ORIGINAL purchaser before they will transfer ownership.

Why should the prospective buyer care? Simply because without transferring ownership, the new owner may not be able to get the computer serviced. Often newer used computers have a warranty remaining. That is a VALUABLE portion of the purchase price.

My suggestion is get a written statement from the person you are buying from that they are the ORIGINAL owner. Ask them to send the service tag number in that e-mail. Ask them to assure you that they will help with the transfer. Ask them to agree to take the computer back for a full refund if Dell refuses to transfer ownership. Then, as soon as the computer arrives, go to the Dell website and attempt to transfer ownership. If Dell will not transfer ownership, you may want to consider returning the item.

If you don't care about being the actual owner of record of the computer, then please ignore the above.

This is not written specifically concerning used laptops listed on Amazon or anywhere else. This is a general statement of caution.

I own one of these, bought it NEW and after 6 months, I had to warranty it out through Dell because the HD crashed on it and had to be replaced. Mind you, I use this for business only, so I never download anything onto it & use it for E-mail, surfing the web for information and FB. Now my keypad types words in that I did not press & it is overheating so it is again going to Dell for another Warranty Repair. I called Dell and purchased another warranty before mine expired because you can not trust this Laptop. One of my acquaintances has the same Laptop and has had the same exact issues and has also had to have them repaired.

The space by where the mouse is, is silver and gets very hot, my fans are not working right & that is causing overheating according to Dell. This is the biggest pile of junk I have ever owned and as soon as my warranty is up again, I am not paying another $110.00 I am buying a Acer or HP. SAVE THE HEADACHE & BUY ANOTHER BRAND!!!!

The optical drive is very useful....For the price you get all you need for an everyday laptop...I used hoyle card and board games as well as some android games and hey all work well.....Just remember you are not buying a top of the line model , dont expect the fastest speed but this unit has all you need.....Search a littler get a lower price.

I'm a student, using this for: Office 2010, Netflix, Hulu streaming and general surfing with IE9, Firefox, Chrome.

Pros:

1.) Not a single dead/stuck pixel! Having even one dead pixel is enough for me to send a product back, but Acer did a nice job. Either that, or I got lucky.

2.) The screen size and portability is perfect for typing prone on the bed, in the car (while parked), and sitting on the can. Yes, I've done all this in just a week.

3.) Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

4.) Very fast after a clean-install of the OS

Cons:

1.) No recovery disc! Though you may download and burn an ISO from Microsoft's download-company, DigitalRiver.

2.) Requires drivers not included in, Windows 7 Pro. I needed to download drivers for: LAN, Wireless, Biometric reader. After installing the drivers to access wireless or LAN, almost everything else can be taken care of through Window's auto-update or Acer's Drivers site.

3.) The Page-Down button is close to the arrow keys, and often pressed by accident for me. But it's only been a week so I'll adjust to it.

This is probably the best laptop I have every purchased. It has been so great that when I decided to look for a Windows 8 Tablet, I went straight to Acer to start the search. The battery life was better than advertised (I have been using the laptop for well over a year and still get 8-hours on a full charge). The durability is remarkable not issues with the screen hinges or keyboard. The ventilation design actually lets you use your "laptop" as a laptop you can set it on your lap and not cause the system to overheat (or burn your legs if you're using a MAC book)

All around...this is a great purchase!

I recently purchased this laptop mainly for college use and some little gaming. This is my third laptop I've owned, and overall I'm very pleased with it (my others being an HP dv6t and Sony VAIO E-series).

Pros:

Very sleek and modern

High quality island-style keyboard (My Sony VAIO felt VERY cheap)

Fast 2nd Gen. Intel Core i5 processor

6GB of RAM (rare for this price point)

Feels very light for a 15.6"

Not a lot of bloatware compared to my previous HP & VAIO laptops

Non-glossy LED screen

Cons:

The back of the screen is actually plastic, not brushed aluminum

Sound is good, but not loud in max volume

No light on the Caps, Number, and Scroll Lock buttons (it actually displays it on the screen)

The zero on the number pad is small (I'm used to using my thumb for hitting zero)

No USB 3.0 ports

Intel HD 3000 graphics (Then again, I'm not a hardcore gamer)

A bit difficult to stick something to a USB port

Overall, for $650, I'm very happy with the purchase I made, and it's a lot better than my previous laptops.

After receiving my laptop in record time..2 days after my order, I was excited to open it up and test it out. After going through the initial setup, and finally on the desktop page, my screen started filling in with a dark gray color from the bottom to the top. Slowly started getting higher and higher... until I could no longer see the lower third of the page. Went right to Samsung tech support, where the techs had me do a basic restore.. which did not fix the problem, then contacted tech support again, where I was told to do a complete restore to fix the problem. I was told this would uninstall and reinstall the video drivers. Still didn't fix it. At this time I started seeing a pink line at the bottom of the screen also, and i'm getting fed up. Third and final chat with tech ended in "you must return the laptop for service under warranty". YEAH RIGHT... it was less than an hour old and you want to service it! NO WAY.... NOT HAPPENING! sooo Amazing Amazon to the rescue. (I should mention here that I absolutely love buying things on Amazon for many reasons, including this) I contacted Amazon who was soo helpful in processing the return of the defective one, and shipping a replacement before the old one was even sent back. Now, I can say that the little amount of time I did "use" the computer, it seemed very nice. Nice crisp clicks on the keys, a very nice large trackpad, lightweight, nice design, very fast, but what good is all that when the darn thing didn't work right. Even so, I decided to give Samsung one more try when the replacement shows up. Maybe I received a lemon, but it's the first Samsung product I have purchased, and I'll try once more before I go back to Toshiba or Dell. Will update this after some time with the new one.

UPDATE***

Received a new laptop which has so far run without a hitch. After deleting all the bloatware, it is lightning fast for my needs. Still like the physical features of this thing, great keys, touchpad, display, lightweight, nice design.

Honest reviews on Samsung Series 3 NP300V5A-A0EUS 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Bought this laptop about 3 months back and have been using it everyday at home. It is a nice laptop and has not given me any issues. Starts and shuts down real fast. Not giving it a 5 star because I think the touchpad could have been more responsive. The earlier Compaq laptop I had had an amazing touchpad and this really pales compared to that. Also the side scrolling on the touchpad is not present. I had to download a third part software to put that feature in this. Was not a big deal for me but someone who is not tech experienced might have difficulty. Rest other things are pretty decent. I bought it from Amazon in the $530 range which is way less than the current ~ $660 range. I did not see any deal breakers in this laptop.

Purchased this item on amazon through J & R Computer World. Wow, the reason that they don't mention the finish is that it is brushed black plastic, and it just screams CHEAP. I returned it to J & R and upgraded to the ultra book which is much better. The NP300v5a looked like a black plastic brick.

This particular machine has no defects that I can tell; it has a chicklet keyboard like the ACER, but the keys are a bit more raised and rounded, and I find I can touch-type on it without too much difficulty (I do not like chicklet keyboards!) One property of this machine that astounded me was the weight...this is no feather-light item--it seems to weigh a ton, figuratively speaking. The screen definition is excellent, but this particular unit can't be set low enough in brightness to make viewing comfortable under all conditions. I recommend it as a compromise between a fixed-location unit and a true portable. One can carry it in an appropriate satchel, but it is not a unit that one would use on the subway or in an airplane...it is too massive.

I have owned many Dells desk tops and have been supplied Dell lap tops by my work, and when my eight year old Dell desk top started slowing down, I decided to order another Dell. This lap top arrived in a sealed factory box and booted up without any issues.

I would have given it five stars, but the keyboard is a bit flimsy. It seems to move downwards when I press the keys. The other issue which others have reported, is that the wifi reports lower signal strength at the same location then what my other Dells do. Other than these two issues, this is a nice machine.

Ordering from Dell was ridiculously complex. Involved returning multiple emails confirming past three living addresses to an incredibly rude customer service rep and having to preemptivley clear charges with financial institution to state purchase was not a fake.

Received product and it flat out stopped working within one week. After 90 minutes with another pissy customer service rep they state it is the operating system that is crap. Too bad they don't provide you the operating system disk with purchase. State they will send me a copy of the disk in the mail. Fail to notify me that I must be present to recieve purchase and they will not even allow you to have the option to pick up from delivery service directly. This is an issue since I work during the day.

Contact company to return piece of garbage and they state it isnt eligible to be returned since they think the product wouldn't be defective if they could just fix it.

Horrible customer service. Avoid at all costs. I should not have purchased a product from a company that clearly has no interest in accountability.

One last note. I purchased the McaFee security package for 3 years. It was not installed. I talked to McaFee customer service and they were able to install right away...but it should have been installed by Dell prior to delivery.

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I attempted to buy this as my new laptop, as I work from home and use them regularly but am pretty experienced with them, having owned quite a few over the last 15 years.

It's less than a week later, and the computer has already required a 2-hour call with tech support to correct the horrible wireless reception (which is mentioned in the review by Lexi above) which ended with little help and them telling me it must work on a "different frequency" then the previous laptop and Apple iPod I own which both connect with no problems to my router. Now, this morning, the hard drive started randomly clicking loudly and the entire thing became almost frozen and unusable. According to Google this is ANOTHER known problem with these laptops.

I can't believe a company would take my money and then send me something so defective in response. I feel embarrassed about having mentioned to people that I'd bought a new laptop and now explain when they ask me that I have to return it, and I feel like the company either took advantage of me or attempted to rip me off by sending me this and hoping I would accept it. Furthermore, they have placed me in an awkward situation of having to get rid of this barely functional piece of garbage while I NEED a functioning computer to do my work.

The rest of my feelings about this "product" and the company which sent it to me are the type I couldn't say without resorting to some vicious and inappropriate language, so I will stop myself here. The laptop is getting returned as soon as possible and I will be getting my money back and doing business with another company. And if Dell gives me a single issue about it, then I will take this MUCH further and see to it that they lose more than one customer.

I purchased this computer to serve as a personal/backup machine to my custom built desktop that is running high end specs that take care of most of my personal computer tasks and gaming.

This is a excellent machine for the price. I choose it because I do like Dell's and the fact that it is becoming harder to come by a Windows 7 laptop, which was another big reason for deciding to go with this machine too. There are some real pleasant surprises in this computer that I found.

Just for the record, I only use this laptop for the essentials, meaning I only use it for internet, email, chat, Netflix/youtube and word processing. Anyone that requires capable gaming or other intensive programs should probably up their price range a bit.

Pros

Great clean looking casing and build. Smooth all around, plastic, but feels pretty robust and durable.

Large and responsive touchpad with multi gestures, this is one of the best touchpads I've used on a windows laptop

Keyboard is nice and sturdy and pretty easy to type on

Speakers are very capable

Overall smooth and responsive once the computer is started up and running

Screen is bright and clear and easy to read

Dell's service tag system makes it very easy to retrieve drivers and support off their website

Cons

It's a bit heavy if you plan to travel with it

Lots of preinstalled bloatware slows the machine down when first starting it up, and must be stripped to reach desired performance

Start up is a bit slow even after stripping bloatware, the 5400RPM drive seems unusually slower then most

The fans kick up a bit at times, I am particularly a little sensitive to noise so this may not bother others much as it does me

As you can see, the pros greatly outweigh the cons, and once I configured and customized the laptop to my liking, its great for basic tasks and looks nice. I mostly use this laptop in my bedroom and a little bit around the house, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily traveler, but as a secondary/backup computer, I couldn't go wrong with this choice.
