I have had this laptop now for several months and can't be happier with it. The style is second to none. It is very similar to the new ultra books, not as thin, close but has everything I wanted and a DVD drive. Plenty of USB drives, has the new 3.0, has an HDMI, I5 and is super fast. The battery is built in and last for hours, I get at least 7.5 hours no problem. Also I really like the fact that this computer does not really get that hot. I have had laptops that just heat up, this one stays cool. The key is one of these new multi-function and works great. The screen looks fantastic as well, put a movie in looks great and the speakers are very good. Overall I am very happy with this computer

This laptop itself is OK. I've had no major problems with the functionality. I do wish it had a different memory setup. It says you can get 6gb of memory in there, but you'd have to find a 6gb chip I think.

The major issue is the trackpad. It is actually so bad that I've wondered if mine is broken or something and might look at returning it. The buttons are integrated into the trackpad... so basically, there aren't any actual buttons. Pretty much the whole trackpad "clicks", and so it determines a right-click, a left-click and a nothing click based on where your fingers are on the pad. But, you often have multiple fingers on the touchpad, so a lot of clicks just don't register because it can't figure out what you're trying to do. Also, the buttons being part of the track pad means that if you don't already have your finger resting on the button area, and you move the cursor to where you want to click, and then try to click the button area, the cursor will often move as it registers you setting your hand on the button area as movement. Sure, it's not much, but it's enough that it will slide the cursor just off of links and stuff very very annoying.

For some other comments... just a few things to note:

The function buttons are reversed meaning the laptop options are there, and you have to hold the function key to make them the actual F1-12 buttons. This is handy as long as you don't use the F keys. I actually do use them sometimes, so I found this kind of annoying. I can't just hit alt-F4 to close windows anymore, for example.

There are no independent "Home" and "End" buttons. Again, you have to hold the function key. I find this annoying, but again, I get that not everybody uses those.

A last small design thing... The wrist-wrest isn't very big. If you're looking for a 14 inch laptop, this isn't really it... this is a 13 inch laptop with a 14 inch screen. Again, that might be what you want. But, know that this has the keyboard, and size of a 13 inch. My hands are bigger, and I find the wrist-wrest and keyboard to both be a little small.

i ordered this but had to return as there was a problem with the BIOS. Amazon allowed me to return it for free and i ordered another.

The new one is working just fine and is amazingly convenient in size and extremely attractive.

Only problem is that the bluetooth doesnt work even though i uninstalled the driver and downloaded and installed it again. Hopefully it'll work sometime.

This laptop doesnt come with an external battery and i think that's a huge factor to consider to those who are wishing to buy it.

I've been a gateway user for 7yrs and i've never been let down.

It's small, attractive and sufficient. i5 processor,4 gb ram and usb3.0 are really good specs imo.

Honest reviews on Gateway ID47H07u 14-Inch Laptop (Silver)

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago for $550 and I can't believe how the price has gone considerably up to $700. Now, this $550 is worth every dime as you get 14" screen in a 13 inch body, widi, usb 3.0, dvd drive and i5! It certainly was the cheapest out there at that time so I just had to grab it. The build quality (except for the keyboard) is really great, brushed aluminum so it's not all cheap plastic. The bottom is plastic but the rest is brushed aluminum, so you can't go wrong with that. Also, battery is SUPER, it can last for 8 hours on a single charge. Oh, and the speaker is dolby... And the height is less than 1 inch and weigh less than 5 lbs!

These features are the ones you can only find in the ultraportable (portege, folio, u400). I also have a Folio 13 btw which is hands on the best ultraportable out there for the price of $850.

As to cons, I noticed flex on the keyboard especially on G and H which essentially tells how great is build quality. Nonetheless, there is no flex on the screen. I say this for those who considers Acer Timelinex that has a LOT of flex. I also would have preferred the tiles to be a different color than aluminum and the layout is not attractive. You have to see it for yourself to know what I am talking about.

Other than that, you can't go wrong with this. It's very fast, quick to boot from hibernate, if ever it goes down again to $550, don't think twice and get it.

I love this laptop!!! I love the sleek look and I'm enjoying how user friendly it is. It was very easy to set up when I got it and have been on it practically every day. I've watched several movies on it already and have been listening to music as well. Sounds and looks great. I will be conducting a business very soon on my laptop and can't wait to get started.

I have been pleased with this laptop. It stays relatively cool when in use and lasts quite a while on the battery supplied (I get about 4+ hours when word processing and browsing the web). I have a slightly different model. I have an E420 1141-A51. This machine is not for gaming. I have had problems with the video card drivers. Games and some video processes have caused the system to freeze or blue screen. After resolving these issues, I steer clear of these kinds of applications.

I bought the Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 to replace my previous laptop, a Sony VAIO VGN-CS110E that simply died on me after only 3 years of use. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Toshiba; it has everything in the latest technology, and is at an unbeatable price ($499.99). The screen is bright and sharp, the operation is fast and smooth, and the machine is quiet (unlike my Sony whose CPU fan makes a loud and unpleasant noise only after 2 years). It is said that Toshiba has the second best reliabiliby in the industry, next to Asus, and my husband has owned a Satellite since 2005 and it's still working well today.

So at $500, I think this Toshiba far exceeds the performance of some higher brand laptop computers. I was most worried about the battery life and while I do not know how long it will last, so far the battery is giving me about 6 hrs on eco setting and trust me, I have 8 Google Chrome tabs open, Outlook, notebook and Word and the computer is still faster than my old Dell Inspiron and my old Toshiba L45. On balanced level, I think I got about 3 hrs out of the laptop. In terms of the performance speed and capability, I am not saying that the performance is gaming level, but I think if this computer is for basic work or school, you will not be disappointed. In regards to shipping, the shipping on the computer was super fast and as advertised, I got it in the time period allotted.

Cons:

** Space bar a little too compact/short

** Speakers are crap

** To much pre-loaded Toshiba junk (easily removable in Control Panel)

UPDATEAugust 28th, 2011

**The Good**

1) Laptop is still exceeding my expectations on performance and speed. I have up to 16 browser tabs open at times in addition to Word and graphic files and the performance is still better than my old Dell Inspiron and Toshiba Satellite combined

**The Bad**

1) So this laptop is so sensitive in that in the middle of typing, it will resize your windows; one of the drawbacks of having a touchpad that is flush with the suface of the laptop. You can however, adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad.

2) My other issue is more with the preloaded Windows 7 than an actual issue with the computer itself. If you do a search on Windows 7 issues, one of the known issues is how Windows 7 and the synaptic device on the computer interacts. Basically, when you type on the keyboard, the information does not show up, rather, new tabs or windows pop open. If you are using a browser window, trying to type info into the address bar will actually open a new window. This has been proving extremely annoying and so far the only way I have found (short of disabling touchpad/mouse)is to ctrl+alt+del and then log out and log back in.

Best Deals for Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)

In my opinion this is the best laptop on the market for the price. I bought this because my previous laptop stopped working after three years of use and after reading the specs on this laptop it caught my attention. I think the best thing about it is that it's VERY fast! And quite honestly I think that is the most important thing to most people, especially me. The hard drive is huge and can hold many many videos and music files. I've never owned a Toshiba but doing research has lead me to the fact that they are ranked as one of the top three manufactures of laptops! In terms of use, it was very easy to set up, the mouse pad is great and feels great, the keyboard is easy to use, and the battery is AMAZING. My previous laptop would only last 2 hours on a full charge, so this is a HUGE improvement. Although I haven't had it very long, I am excited to be using it for the upcoming semester.

Honest reviews on Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)

Included below are parts of my initial review and updates as product, customer service and warranty got worse. MY FINAL REVIEW: Not only is this particular model so poorly made that I probably got 3 months decent use during the 8 months I've owned it and the 2nd one since Amazon replaced the first defective laptop; the rest of the time was spent making phone calls regarding this product. I spent more time, money and mental energy than it's worth to end up owning a lump of computer parts that I can do nothing with. TOSHIBA HAS HORRIBLE POST SALE CUSTOMER SERVICE, case #s disappear and the last straw was a Case Manager telling me: "why did you take the laptop to that dealer, he is not authorized to work on YOUR MODEL LAPTOP take it to civil court that's all I can tell you" ... as if I chose this auth svc dealer myself, or they never knew what model I had after all the "case numbers" and conversations. ALl I have now from this incident is a pile of computer components that I can't even sell or give to anyone. I hope no one purchased one of these because of my initial review. Furthermore, I'll never review a product until I've used it for 6 mos or more I may not even review anything let alone ever purchase a product by TOSHIBA. If Amazon was not presently trying to get Toshiba to do something about the laptop, the authorized svc dealer then I'd never buy another item over $50.00 from Amazon. I'm just thoroughly disgusted and amazed at the business ethics I've encountered due to this laptop and advise everyone to not even think twice about purchasing this. I will contact every Consumer Affairs, BBB and anyone so that no one goes through what I have in the past 8 months. I cannot even express the anger and disappointment I feel strongly enough in this final review.

*************** WORST TRANSACTION IN MY LIFE**************

* this is PART of my first review after one month of use:

"The hard drive died within 2 weeks of purchase. I liked how it performed while it did, so I ordered my current L755-S5271 (Fortunately Amazon [POP] has great warranty service).Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5279 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)I think this is a great laptop for me as an artist..."

****REVISED 12.11.11********** 5 MONTHS LATER, AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH USB PORTS; INTERMITTENT CONNECTIONS. will see if I still think each company has such great warranty/tech service today, already had to exchange initial order due to Hard Drive***********

++++++REVISED REVIEW 02-02-12 DO NOT RISK YOUR FINANCES AND MENTAL HEALTH BUYING THIS LAPTOP!!!

I feel I have to delete all the great things my initial review included about this laptop as they don't matter one bit when the computer they are part of breaks down approx every 35 days. I'll NEVER EVEN CONSIDER A TOSHIBA AGAIN. As of today the laptop has cost close to $1K in parts that were never authorized by me to order. I wont go into what this laptop has cost me in mental stress, anxiety medication and doctor visits. I'll try to be brief as possible; Toshiba has a questionable method for who they allow to be called: Certified authorized toshiba repair tech". Toshiba has no concern for anyone once they've made a purchase. I would not bother writing this if I felt even slightly that the things that happened to this laptop could've been caused by me. I may take this story to a News COnsumer Advocates journalist when I've recovered from this epic error in judgement, purchasing this laptop and wonder if I ever trust another review on a product. THIS COMPUTER IS ONLY 7 MONTHS OLD and the second one I've owned in 8 months. If this alone doesn't convince you to run fast and far from this model or if you really want to know all that's transpired in the past month between me, Toshiba and their authorized agents please feel free to contact me via Amazon. I cannot write this atrocity of a ridiculous tale one more time without being heavily medicated to stop my hands from shaking in anger and frustration. The computer was great when it DID work, but in retrospect I now realize Ie spent more time trying to find out what happened to the computer than I spent actually using it. If anyone would like further detail on what kind of "authorized service techs" Toshiba let's represent them and their post-purchase attitude towards consumers, againfeel free to contact me via Amazon. I have documentation and receipts and every reference number that has to do with the things that have happened during the 8 months of owning a L755-S5271. I'm already living with the guilt that someone may have read my initial review on this product and purchased one. I had no idea things like this could even happen to a computer ..OR THAT A COMPANY CAN TREAT PEOPLE IN THIS MANNER POST SALE. ....... was RETURNED with TOTALLY DEAD BATTERY which "should not be connected to the laptop again" when it had a life of 2-3 hrs PRIOR TO ENTERING THAT SHOP only because i left it attached to laptop which was being diagnosed for 75.00 after a phone call to Toshiba would only answer my question for 38.00 because someone read the wrong customer info and told me my Warranty was no longer valid. ..... If these and the other malfunctions didn't happen to ME I'd never believe this story. I'm just warning anyone considering this laptop ...

I just got this laptop a few weeks ago and I am very impressed with it. It took me the best part of a day to bring it up to speed but after all the updates, getting rid of bloatware, and loading my own programs it is working great and I see no problems with it. True it is not a $2000 laptop but for what I need it for it might as well be. I have a $2000 HP elitebook which my company gave me for work and this Toshiba matches it in speed and that is with the 1st genration I5 processor. I am definitely happy with so far for the price. The free Avast 6.0 is working with it fine and not causing problems. With an addtional hardware proactive firewall I feel pretty safe. I would definitely reccommend this computer to anyone who just wants an everyday computer and wants to get the biggest bang for their buck. This is my first Toshiba. They have a good rep for build quality and failure rates so I am hoping it will last longer than my Dell which was all of three years. I let you know what I feel 6 months from now if this laptop is still up on Amazon.

I love the large screen on this laptop, and the quality of the picture is great. The unit was a little light on Ram with only 6 GB but it does have 4 slots for ram so it is very cost effective to upgrade it to 16 GB by buying two sets of 8 GB (about $55)this was much cheaper then getting 16 GB in two ram chips(about $230). Acer couldn't make it harder to find out what kind of ram the laptop takes (it's 1066 ddr3 204 pin so-dimm by the way). Light machine and fast, great buy for the money! I am using this laptop to record with daw software and have had no troubles.

Have had this laptop for 6 days and have used it each of those 6 days. My experience has been a good one. This is my 1st laptop. I'm not disapointed with this laptop. The price was right at $877 and is still a bargain at the current price of $899. I've been on the internet, scanned pictures, transfered all my music from my desktop to it,removed unwanted packaged software from it like the antivirus programs and downloaded Microsoft Essentials. Up graded drivers for printerscanner, cameras and other devices. Burned the recommeded recovery backups without any trouble. I've watched 2 movies from netflex and been on Skype. So far this laptop has performed very good.

Honest reviews on Acer AS7750G-9411 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)

I bought this as a Christmas gift. It has become the secondary computer in the house that everybody uses. It sees a lot of use. The screen is bright. The mouse pad works great. I have a hard time with the flat keys, but the keyboard is big and laid out well, and the keys feel just fine otherwise. The wireless network connection is great too.

My only complaint has been with the battery that has proved to have a rather short life. The battery used to give me several hours of use. (What ever Acer said it would.) After six month of daily use on and off the charger, the batter is only good for about 90 minutes. I also just this week had to replace the hard drive. I did not send it back to Acer though I assume it is still under warranty. The laptop just stopped working, and I ended up taking it into a repair shop. They determined it was the hard drive. I bought a new one and replaced it my self. It was easier to do than a desk top.

Thank goodness I made restore disks, as prompted by Acer's manual, before the laptop went into use. The restore disks worked flawlessly. I was back up and running in three days.

Everyone in the house enjoys this laptop. From games to school work to Netflix to surfing the Internet to viewing photographs this laptop has proven to be a good choice.

Firstly, I should give credit where credit is due.

This machine is nicely put together, and very solid for a netbook. It's probably the nicest netbook I've used (physically).

Unfortunately it has a very significant problem:

A part of the included HP software causes very high CPU utilisation, and basically the machine runs at 90-100% CPU most of the time. The means that the computer is much slower than it should be to respond, and the battery life is very poor (as another reviewer pointed out). The piece of HP software that causes the issue is the HP Wireless Assistant. When this is disabled, the machine runs well, when it is running the whole machine grinds to a halt. You require this software to turn the machine's WLAN, BT and WWAN radios on or off. If you don't require turning these on/off, you might be able to get away with not running this software (I think). For my job in the field, I'm constantly required to turn the radios on and off. The runaway process is wmiprvse.exe.

There's a number of people experiencing this same problem.

I spent two weeks on the phone to HP trying to fix the issue. When they became convinced that the issue might be hardware, the machine was replaced. The new machine had the same symptoms, and after battling with both machines for almost 2 months I threw in the towel, got a refund, and bought another brand. After 2 months from being made aware of this issue, HP still hasn't done anything to fix it.

Before buying this machine, please ensure that they have rectified this issue... otherwise you'll regret your purchase (as I did).

I bought this netbook with touchscreen option for my medical practice entering electronic health record info.

This was functional but does not allow onscreen digital inking function of tablet pc computers which is important in medical practices to capture patient signatures. The keyboard was comfortable. The screen size was not optimized for my application.

Battery life was not as expected with the 6 cell option. Only lasted about 4 hours.

I will be using this as a backup ocmputer but cannot see this as my primary notebook

I bought this through Amazon, kept it for two weeks, then gave it to my grandson, who was ecstatic to get it. I ordered it for myself as an all purpose laptop. It met most of my needs. All applications ran very fast, and web surfing was a joy. The backlit keyboard is very good, and you can adjust the settings of the track pad to fit your preferences. The ability to change the colors of the lighting on the keyboard and other components is very cool. I liked being able to select which programs used the dedicated graphics processor, and which use the integrated graphics. It is whisper quiet, and runs very cool. Battery life is very good with the proper settings. Screen resolution and clarity is excellent. And the sound it produces is outstanding loud and clear. The rubberized finish feels so luxurious, and the included sleeve is a nice extra.

The only two things I did not like were the screen and the lack of a built in CD/DVD drive. The screen was simply too small for my aging eyes this is not a negative for this laptop, but rather an indication that buyers should try before buying. It was the small screen that made me to decide to give it to my grandson. And while the absence of a CD/DVD drive may help keep weight and power consumption down, the need to hook up an external drive with two USB cables tends to defeat the whole portability concept, especially if you play games that require the CD to be active.

To summarize:

The pros:

1) Very portable and relatively light weight

2) Excellent performance

3) Good battery life

4) Good screen resolution

5) Great sound

The cons:

1) Small screen

2) Lack of integrated CD/DVD

Awesome laptop with amazing performance for it size. It will play the latest games from medium (COD MW2) to high/ultra settings (SC2).

This thing also never overheats. Its pretty big for a netbook but def worth it!

Thanks to nVidia Optimus technology, the battery life on this thing is fantastic (3+ hours playing online,5+ hours regular web surfing, watching videos...). The 8GB of Ram and the option to overclock the processor make this on-the-go gaming laptop a good future proof system.

Overall I'm very pleased with this system.I recommend it to anyone (especially if you can find it for under a grand)looking to do some gaming on the go and want to have the coolest looking laptop around.

Cons: I've heard about some hinges issues but Dell is working on it and will replace them even if the laptop is out of warranty. Make sure you open the lid with both hands to put less strains on the hinges.

Best Deals for Dell Alienware M11X - Core i5 8GB DDR3 5.1 Surround Sound Stealth

I have owned this notebook for about 6 months now and I'm really happy that I bought this machine. I really wasn't in the market for a new computer but when I got a new job that requires me to be away from home about 90% of the time, I had to get a desktop replacement to help keep my sanity (TV is over rated). This little guy is awesome small and easy to carry around. The battery can last me between 3 to 6 hours depending on what I'm doing. I have yet to peg this machine out with 8GB of RAM it is really hard to do and I had some pretty powerful applications loaded (MW3, WoW, FFXI, CoH, SWTOR, SolidWorks, 3DS Max, Blender, Visual Studio 2010, Netbeans 6). I usually have at least 2-3 of these applications running at the same time and I have yet to see a major hit on performance.

A large disadvantage I think is the factory standard option HD is pretty small. Specially since Dell will partition some of the drive off so you can do a system recovery(inevitable on all computers). I need to use a large amount of hard drive space and 300GB seems rather small for me. Specially if you do a lot of 3D modeling and gaming on the same machine.

Another knock on this little guy, which really isn't a knock against the MX11 but the Optimus Chip. The Optimus only kicks in automatically if the application is in the list already or specifically launched with the graphics accelerator. It will not notice an application if it doesn't use Direct X, I hope that changes (You can get an application to load with the Nvidia GPU rather than the integrated Intel with some work).

Overall this laptop is a great machine to replace your desktop computer. I really enjoy this computer and I will most likely purchase another Alienware in the future, when it comes time to replace this one.

Honest reviews on Dell Alienware M11X - Core i5 8GB DDR3 5.1 Surround Sound Stealth

I can play all my games on max settings np, the battery life is amazing, and It's so tiny and cute that when you travel with it..many heads will turn! If you are interested in buying this laptop Please note there is no way to change the color of the Alienware Head on the back of the monitor, it's not a big deal but it caught me by suprise. I brought this at almost all max setting with the core i7. I needed something I can travel with, and still be able to game on and the Alienware M11x delivers. The lack of the CD drive is not a con to me..it's a bit obsolete because everything I install is digitally especially my games! I do think that the LCD screen itself could have been a bit bigger because they used up a lot of it to create a black border, which is minimally needed really. Other than that I have no complaints. My computer is almost a dream come true. here is my Unboxing/mini review video, please copy the link into your browser in order to check it out!!

I was wanting to try out the Mac computers and see what all the hype was about. I thought this would be a good little intro computer and though it works I was disappointed with it on the overall. Web pages are slow, there was no iphoto or imovie, very bare bones. The lack of a card reader and not picking up my iphone were also disappointing.

I haven't given up on apple but really prefer the windows at least in comparison to this computer.

Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This DV6-2190us model is a desktop replacement.

Pros: The i7 processor is very fast, has 8 threads of execution (4 hyper-threaded cores) and the turbo boost kicks in when needed. It boots quickly, and runs applications quickly. I was able to install software and still use the machine without noticing any slowdown. It has a dedicated onboard graphics processor, with 1GB of dedicated graphics memory for gamers, I presume (I do not have any games to test it with).

Cons:

1. The fan runs continuously unless you turn it off in the BIOS. If you turn it off, it cycles, which is even more annoying. It cycles even when the laptop is idling (using very little cpu time). I did not notice the fan noise until I worked with it in my quiet office.

2. The keyboard layout takes learning. The pgup/dn are in the far upper right. The arrow keys and keypad keys are smaller than the QWERTY keys.

3. The power adapter has 120 watts output, and is huge and heavy.

Other:

1. touchpad has a lot of friction, but if you use your fingertips, it glides pretty well.

2. The battery life wasn't too bad, but I wasn't pushing the CPU or graphics.

I exchanged it after a week for the HP DV4-2170us model, which is cheaper and more portable.

I posted a long review of the current crop of DV6-21xx series of notebooks here: HP Pavilion DV6-2170US. The models are mostly the same with different CPUs (one has a discrete graphics chip). All include the newest mobile processors from Intel which eclipse the older Core2 line in terms of performance. Those with integrated graphics include Intel's new HD graphics which are also a big improvement over Intel's old 4500HD graphics (which are still inferior to discrete graphics chips from AMD/ATI and Nvidia when it comes to 3D gaming).

One specific thing I want to highlight about this model is that the CPU is the Intel i7-720QM, one of the top performing notebook CPUs on the market. With four cores running two threads each you computer can (if needed) act like a 8 core processor. When not needed the extra cores shut down and the frequency goes up (part of what Intel calls "Turbo mode". The downside is that the combination of this quad core CPU and the discrete graphics chip from nVidia will drain your battery much faster than a dual core CPU with Intel's integrated graphics (expect the battery to last 1-2 hours during typical use). Unless you are a 3D gamer this is probably not the notebook for you. If you are a 3D gamer the included nVidia 230M graphics chip will make 3D games at lot more playable. For example Fear2 goes from 12FPS on Intel HD to 45FPS on the nVidia 230M at medium settings.

The other thing to note about this model is that it has Gigabit ethernet (10/100/1000) whereas the dual core HPs have standard 10/100 ethernet. Not something that matters to most people but I thought I'd mention it since it's easy to miss when you are comparing models.

If you are really sold on this model but need better battery life you can buy a HP KS526AA 12-Cell Multi Battery for it and get another 1-2 hours of battery life. It adds another $100 to your purchase price. You can order direct from HP with this battery but I'm not sure if that gets you a better price (taxes, shipping, etc...) over Amazon or not. It's worth pricing out.

Have used now for over a month and have found this to be a great little machine. Only problems I've had are related to Win 7 compatability and not the Laptop.

Pros: Great speed

Full keyboard with number pad

Easy volumn adjustment with visible slider

Cons: No separation between touch pad and buttons too easy to get both fingers on touch pad

Honest reviews on HP Pavilion DV6-2190US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

This is a Fast machine!! Internet pages are there instantly the graphics card is excellent and for that matter the specs on this machine are outstanding.

I purchased this to serve mainly: 1) to connect to 50" plasma and stream Internet TV and 2) as an emergency backup to my work laptop.

Initially had issues with network connectivity. After much time, frustration and effort discovered that the HP DV6 would "break" my network each time I tried to access Internet. Turns out the setting in Networking for hardware had IPV6 box checked. What does IPV6 mean? Turns out IPV6 is a new IP address scheme and my network router did not recognize IPV6 and would cause it to crash. Since unchecking the IPV6 box, there have been no further Internet connectivity issues. Whew!!

However, some unresolved issues remain with Mediacenter. Currently I am unable to setup Netflix through mediacenter, well actually Netflix is setup and I see my queue but when I select from my watch instantly list it just shows "loading" and never plays. GRRR. More troubleshooting needed before I criticize. Instead of going through media center for Netflix viewing, I connect to internet, login to Netflix and then am able to play NF movies/progams up to the connected 50" plasma screen. Not ideal, but a work around for now.

Yesterday I connected a HP USB Hybrid Atsc NTSC QAM Fm High Definition TV Tuner KS523AA#ABA KS523AUSB which allows me to receive digital over-air TV channels. The video quality is very good. The HP USB tuner product specs state the TV tuner is compatible with Windows7. Unfortunately, the remote that is included with the USB TV tuner does not function as described in the user guide. Number keys do not change channels and other remote buttons do not work another issue to troubleshoot. UGH!! Perhaps just a newer driver is needed for Windows7 OS?

Some of the other mediacenter features I intend to use but have yet to test include playing dvds, recording TV programs, managing photos and editing video. Although I am no computer wizard, and this could account for many of my set-up woes it seems as if there have been a significant number of problems. Yet, I am confident all will be resolved, with more time, effort and yes, frustration!

This is the 5th HP laptop I've had in the last 3 years. I've only had it for 5 months and it is constantly freezing and the USB and SD-MD ports work only about half of the time. The HP model I had before this (DV$-1433US) also had problems, it wouldn't boot, again after only 6 months of use. I sent it back to HP and they said that I had spilled some sort of liquid on the keyboard, which was not case. I never spilled anything on it. I asked them to prove it and they sad that if I wanted pictures I would have to pay for them to send them to me!! Before that one, I had an earlier model which also had the same problem, it just wouldn't boot. I was a fan of HP of many years but the last 3 models I've bought have been a big headache. I just bought 2 Toshiba Satellites for almost half the price of HP and a very similar configuration. So far no problems. Adios HP!

I like the computer in general. The only thing that I don't like is the hard drive which is 5400 RPM. It should be at least 7200 RPM to match the speed of the processor so that video editors like me don't have problem during rendering of video. The unit is over the need (requirement)for those who are just typing and doing some computer stuff but under rated for those who will use this for video editing and other task involving video rendering. I don't like the windows 8 as well, I cannot install some software that I need. They should adopt what windows7 have and compatible with. I give 4 star only because of the hard drive speed and windows8 compatibility.

This laptop comes with Windows 8, but does not have the touch-display capabilities. I find that the Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but there are pre-loaded videos that do a good job of explaining how to use this OS.

The display and graphics are rather disappointing, despite calibration. I wish I had paid the extra $$ for the Blu-ray player, but all in all, the memory, speed and functionality are decent for the amount I paid for this laptop.

I was very disappointed to find out that the keyboard, which was supposed to be back-lite had no such feature. I believe I paid extra for that and now have to figure out how to either get a reimbursement or just accept a laptop from Amazon without all of the features I ordered. I expected that with Amazon's reputation, this kind of thing would not happened. More needs to be done with the vendors you qualify to fill the orders. Contact me to make this right.

This is our 3rd Toshiba laptop , and have never had a problem with this product (other than replacing batteries) in the years we have owned them .

They are reasonably priced , large enough to use as a desktop , and a big enough screen for those of us with declining vision to enjoy -

As usual, UPS delivered this product well on time (unlike experiences we have had with Fed Ed )

I recently purchased this laptop from an outside source(sorry Amazon)and I LOVE it! The keyboard is easy to type on, the touch screen a cool feature and the size is perfect. This is my first new laptop in years. The Windows 8 takes some time to get used to but once you unpin all the stuff you don't need it's quite easy to figure out.

This computer is fast right out of the box with massive memory. The new windows layout took some getting used to, but there is an option to use the classic view as well! I bought this computer for business use, and so far it has passed all my test's! Great computer!!

I bought this laptop about 5 months ago... one of the worst decisions I've ever made. I have had to get it repaired twice already. The problem was that my touchpad (mouse pad) completely locked up and I could no longer use the mouse at all. I tried restarting it, shutting it down, taking the battery out, everything. So I sent it to Toshiba the first time (which was only 3 weeks after I bought it) had to pay $25 shipping to Toshiba to have them "fix" the problem. Toshiba informed me that they diagnosed it as a corrupt hard drive and said they replaced the hard drive, which later I found out that they did not! The second time was just yesterday for the exact same problem with my touch pad (that Toshiba claimed they "fixed") and I had to purchase Tech support for the laptop's software problem for $170 through TechZilla.com because the 1 year warranty only covered Hardware issues. After talking with the technician at TechZilla, I found out that in the 3 years he worked there this was a very common issue with Toshiba Laptops. So the technician had to spend literally two and half hours fixing via wi-fi connection. He told me he had to re-write the connection codes between the touchpad and computer, Or something of the sort. All in all I would say that the computer memory, ram, etc has been great! However this 5 month old computer with it's constant issues has been nothing but a headache. I wish I never would have bought this cursed machine lol. Lesson learned through this, it's worth it to pay the extra money for a Mac. That is all.

I've been an Acer fan since 1997, had my first major Desktop from them and it ran forever. I use to like Toshibas laptops back in the day, 2004 till about 2009 or so when they really took pride in their machines. Now they are cheap plastic toys, and fall apart like leaves in the fall. First off the lid has horrible wobbling when you open it, the keys smash down into the body of the computer like grapes on pavement. The fan runs either constantly, or it can't decide and kicks on and off, on and off etc. Very loudly i might add. The speakers are horrible, i have headphones that are much louder. And the over all feel of the machine is just bad. It's really a shame when a company like Emachines (now owned by Acer) makes (made) a better quality laptop the Toshiba. I had one back in 2010, and it was built rock solid, tiny speaker sound, and a decent processor, but definitely better than this doorstop. I remember taking this out of the box thinking, are you kidding me?

I have an Acer 17.3 inch laptop that i got in 2010 as well, and it is fantastic, never an overheating issues, burned literally 100's of discs (maybe more), converted movies, great speaker volume, and the body is made very firm, with a good solid feel. I was never an AMD fan either, sure you get 4 cores, and it's more powerful than my laptop, but honestly, who games on them anymore? Hence the cheap price, look on Wal-Mart and the computer is 578$, ask why? Now you know. So good specs, don't mean your getting a good reliable quality machine. I've loved the underdog, (Acer) for years, and it's been great. Even my girlfriends new Gateway is made far superior. I miss the old Toshibas. Even the higher end models suffer from problems, i work on desktops only. But i've heard many people say they get more HP's Dell's and Toshibas coming through with problems, more than any others. So buy at your own risk. They didn't even make this model for 8 months, and now they are gone. Or overstocked at Wal-Mart. Buyer beware.

These are my impressions after using this Dell Inspiron 5720 laptop for a week:

The Intel i7 3rd gen. CPU is very fast and a pleasure to see in action. All of my Windows 7 applications are accomplished in record time. The Intel Graphics 4000 HD can keep up with any game I've loaded with ease. The Intel WiDi system sends HD audio and video to my 42 inch LCD TV via a Netgear PUSH2TV HD PTV2000 1080P Adapter for Wireless Display. Movies played on this laptop through the WiDi system are DVD quality. The Bluetooth on this laptop connects to my wireless stereo headphones with great range throughout an over 1000 sq ft multi-room structure. The Windows Experience Index is as follows: 7.5, 7.8, 6.5, 6.5, and the lowest disk data transfer rate: 5.9. The laptop's display is large and very clear (1600 x 900.) The 4 USB 3.0 ports are incredibly fast compared to USB 2.0. The sound system on this laptop is amazingly high quality for small speakers, including a small sub-woofer! Using an Inspiron 15R N5110 (Core i5 2nd gen.) as a reference, this laptop operates at a much lower temperature (estimate 50% less heat) so using it as a true "laptop" is very comfortable. The Switch lid system makes it very easy to change the cover; only blue, pink, and grey are available from Dell as of this review.

Please note: As with all new computers I own, I backup the original HDD image via Dell's Backup Software to 3 DVDs then reformat the HDD and install my own Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Dell's latest drivers and BIOS update. The above review was completed after I accomplished these actions.

The unit arrived with a defective motherboard and audio issues. Wasted a great deal of time on line with tech rep in India before he concluded the motherboard was defective. In the process he downloaded software which froze-up the computer requiring a restore that wiped out programs and configurations I had spent a great deal of time creating. The local repair service did arrive in 24 hours. However, some type of reconfiguration is needed after the repairs; I have now been advised I will have to waste more of my time with a tech rep because the service tag no longer matches the motherboard. I am having trouble loading many sites. The computer freezes and won't allow scrolling on about one site-in-three. The optical drive supplied with the unit is less than flimsy. I am having issues with the apostrophe key which alternately does not work or types two apostrophes. ''' Poor quality control is evident with this product. Sorry I bought it.

SupplementThe keyboard and motherboard have now failed a few hours after this review. Spent an hour on-line with India again and a repair tech is coming out. Dell should replace this junk

2nd supplement-This 8-day old computer got it's 3rd motherboard and a new keyboard today. The repairs did not fix the scrolling or typing problems. Dell agreed to ship me a new unit. However, this will be the 3rd time I have to configure and network one of these units and download my programs. I will have 25-30 hours of time wasted on the phone, with techs at my house and setting up a unit. Mere replacement fails to properly compensate a customer. Next time I will buy at Walmart where they take defective computer returns no questions asked.

The replacemet arrived yesterday. It has a dead pixel near the center of the screen which is annoying in a "new" unit. Can't tell if this one is new or reconditioned. The condition of the clear plastic keyboard protector hints at the latter. It works better than the old one but still has a scrolling freeze problem on the internet intermittantly. JCW

Honest reviews on Dell Inspiron i17R-2895PNK 17-Inch Laptop (Pink)

I'm not one to take the time to review many of my purchases, this has been such a nightmare that I must warn all other potential buyers. I've had the laptop for about a year now,

within the first month, usb ports did not work, i called dell they wanted me to mail them the laptop back for repair and they would return it within 2 weeks, I'm a wealth manager and use this laptop for work, i spoke with their supervisor and was able to get a tech to come to my office to fix it.

they had to replace the whole motherboard not just usb ports. after repair, within a week, modem and other components did not work. i called them again, they ended up sending me a whole new laptop, i had to spend the time to transfer all my data to the new laptop. The new laptop usb ports also did not work. I called them again and gave up on the repair, i can handle having some faulty usb ports, sometimes it doesn't recognize my dvd/r drive, good thing i don't use it for work.

a couple months ago, i started having some problems with the typing cursor, as I'm typing it jumps around and automatically jumps to a different part of the screen making it difficult to type full sentences.

I bought this thing from Fry's on sale, the salesperson even told me not to buy it, he recommended lenovos or asus laptops instead, i didn't listen thinking he was just incented to sell the products. I used to trust dell because their desktops are reliable, not the case with the laptops. Save yourselves major headaches and go with a different brand.

Got the computer in a timely mannor, thanks Amazon. Got it up and running, I was excited to try Windows 8. I was taking the leap. I like Windows 8 and after 5 minutes of getting used to the new interface it was working fine for me. We did buy this computer for our 14yr son and so it was his turn to have some fun. It worked well, very fast. Then day 2. He was playing his favorite game, and called me over because the computer was frozen. Could not do anything with it. Hard boot. No good. Used the "one key recovery" feature, to roll back to original settings. Came back up for a bit then, would not load Windows any more at all. Talked to the nice lady at Lenovo and she offered to send factory recovery disks at no charge. I will update this when we try to recover. Great computer, no so sure about the software, may need a few updates before Win 8 is perfect.

Update Dec 20th : Lenovo sent recovery disks. Attempted recovery with Lenovo on the phone to guide me. Did not work, the computer is going back to be repaired. Not too happy now, but cannot complain about the service, it was fine. I hope the machine works properly when it gets back, will update.

Update Jan 17th : Still waiting. They are replaceing the motherboard and do not have the correct one in stock at the repair center it is at, so they say, must come from China or something, not a very happy customer at this point.

Update Jan 29th : Lenovo is now not the company I would recomend

Update Feb 16th : Finally have the computer back. It is running well. Lennovo support was terrible giving mis-information and outright lies were told to us. According to the "Lenovo Depot Repair Center Repair Action Report" that came back with the machine, the repair was replace hard drive. The telephone support told us that the motherboard needed to be replaced and it was not available and that is why the repair was taking over 5 weeks. If it was jus t a HDD replacement it should have taken no time at all. There is no problem finding a HDD at a repair depot I would hope. I am a very unhappy customer Lenovo. I hope that some people will think twice about buying any product from you. As a small business owner, if something this bad happened, I would bend over backward to make sure my customer was happy in the end. No such thing with Lenovo. I asked maybe if they could put in an extra 4GB of ram to help make up for my inconvience, no reply. The only thing that really surprised me was that we actually got our computer back. Lenovo you need to seriously look at how you treat your customers.

I bought this laptop for my uncle. It is a good laptop for decent home and office usage. It is not ideal for playing high graphics games. If you need a laptop for home and office usage, this is the one!

Pros:

Screen size

Weight

Keyboard with numpad

Big HDD

Good i5 processor

Cons

Average Graphics Card

Windows 8 (personal opinion I didn't like it that much)

RAM could have been more... although this is not a real problem as such!

On the whole, its a good i5/4GB/750GB combination!

I bought a G580 and it failed right out of the box. Lenovo's customer service is not a service---it is a nightmare. Negotiating their phone menu is like trying to get thru a maze. I returned the computer as directed and heard nothing back. Nobody in their customer service knows what department does what. Constant holds and misconnections to wrong numbers. Then just try calling back. Finally after waiting (they said they would contact me) two weeks I told them to cancel sending me a replacement. DON"T buy Lenovo.

Honest reviews on Lenovo G580 15.6-Inch Laptop (Glossy Brown IMR)

Pros:

1. It seems to be a pretty fast machine for the most part.

2. It has the latest OS, Windows 8, only a disadvantage while getting used to this vastly different experience from any other Windows version.

3. Nothing has gone wrong yet with any of the hardware.

Cons:

1. Keyboard difficulties: (a) The standard key section is too close to the Num key section: this makes it harder to tell where certain keys are when the room isn't well lighted (very annoying!) (b) The CapsLk key looks the same whether caps lock is on or off.

2. The laptop user is led into using LOTS of junk software and software that s/he must eventually either give up or pay for.

3. Attempting to get a little laptop support online from a Lenovo rep was pretty much a waste of time and nevertheless a cost to Lenovo that the users probably pay for in the cost of the laptop.

The design/look is stylish. The color is such a deep brown that it almost appears black (and has faint sparkle specks in the finish similar to a car paint job). It looks really nice. The keyboard is also designed very well. I can type with no issues. The keys feel good and they are sturdy. It doesn't feel cheap. I'm also enjoying the Windows 8 experience. Even though the OS is made especially for touch screens, it still feels fairly natural for the laptop. I enjoy the apps interface of Windows 8. Anyway, I recommend this laptop.
